I mean given the rampant problems with the environment in the region, what is the point of modernization if you end up in a toxic wasteland? I do not see why you want to repeat our mistakes. You could modernize without taking the most destructive routes. Also we should not allow our trade partners ...

I love how all the talk is "THIS IS BAD FOR AMERICA" when in reality it's bad for New Zealand. True, but why did your government sign it? At least we did not. Did the government not care about the notable lack of worker and environmental protections? Did your government really think they ...

Then we can offer some bilateral deals to members of this to give them an alternative option. And our bilateral deals can and should provide worker and environmental protections . Considering we went great lengths exactly to crush that, I don't think it'll be very popular. Especially regarding the ...

The free trade agreement will help China develop mutually beneficial free trade, investment and business deals with other countries. I like this. Yes, and my country will also benefit from it economically. But I'm more concerned about China's influence on smaller states through their economies than...

Unfortunate, especially as it it includes zero environmental or worker protections. In a region with major pollution problems and poor worker rights this will be bad for the workers and the environment, although it really does not change that much. But with Japan wanting to move their manufacturing ...

The US joint the EU would not stop any of those things. It could be a major step in doing so, why are you so cynical? I am just being realistic. The EU does not stop death, famine or war. Death is inevitable anyways. We all die. The EU does not stop famine, and many of its members have been involve...

The Electoral College is not an institution, it's a mechanism. That is, there is no physical entity called the "Electoral College" except every four years for as long as it takes for the electors in each state to vote. And even then, it's not like all the electors go to one place to vote....

Institution, mechanism or Rube Goldberg contraption, a nation in which a candidate who gets fewer votes can be installed in office can hardly be said to be dedicated to democratic values, norms or principles. Don't you have to demonstrate a dedication to democractic values and norms before the EU will let you in? A US application to join the EU might be, well, iffy. Because the Electoral College among other things. The president of Germany is elected by a similar system to the US, PMs are indirectly ele...

Jobbik is not Fidesz. Jobbik is and Fidesz do not get along. No tax for those with children is a great idea, not a bad one. All western countries should do that. I think a reasonable goal for nuclear power might be the following: 1) Replace all of our coal. That would more than halve the electricity generation sector's carbon emissions. 2) Keep up with nuclear plant retirements. Those are going to happen as our existing fleet ages; they should be replaced w...

Costs: $7 billion is doable, in government money. If private enterprise doesn't like it, they can compete. Risks: Nuclear fission is very safe, averaged over plants and years of operation ... even including Chernobyl and Fukushima. Fission power is a victim of its own success: nobody pays attention...

Armenia failed to secure Artsakh anyways. Because simply taking more land did not overcome its other failures. They secured it for a couple decades and won every conflict up to this point. I wouldn’t call it a total failure. Perhaps not a total failure short term, but certainly a failure long term....

I did get to the substance of it. By the way anecdotes are not substance. The point is you said nuclear is bad because it cannot be made perfectly free from human error. But given hydroelectric dams are on average, world wide, less reliable and more dangerous https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.fool.c...

Cool. I don't see how needing to defend territory that isn't legally yours gives you any legal right to occupy land that isn't yours and expel its residents. The issue is obviously you can see how that argument can be pushed too far. The PRC will argue Taiwan is a necessity for its defense, and so on. A lot of places could use that to grab a lot of land. But I do agree Azerbaijan by attempting to dissolve Nagorno Karabakh did start the fight, and should...
