True. I get what you mean. It makes sense for us - an island nation - to secure ties with the largest and most powerful Eastern European power in order to cover where we lack the ability to deal with ourselves. The good relations with Russia in WWI was overall good for us, perhaps, but I personally...

In my opinion it would be better if we moved towards reasserting ourselves as a great power, and I personally despise any and all forms of Russian expansion or irredentism so I want us to be re-empowered at Moscow’s expense. Its human rights abuses, interference in European elections and self-centr...

The weaker Russia is the better it is for what I believe to be our national interests. Margaret Thatcher would have disagreed. British and Russian interests stopped colliding after the Brits abandoned the Back of the Beyond and the old empire. The only residual tensions are because of Britain's rol...

The Skyrim settlements were disappointing in general. No less than 4 settlements with the same generic Nordic architecture copy-pasted! At least with Oblivion each settlement was architecturally distinct, while in Morrowind there were several varied architectural styles.

A generic political/historical thread where we could discuss history and politics from different places and times (without having to make a separate thread every time) would be very appreciated. Gee, we could even split it into two, maybe one that focuses on right-wing things, and another on left-wi...

Sure, we repeatedly faced rules breaking from the RWDT to a major extent and the LWDT thread to a lesser extent. When I ruled a post actionable and placed a long ban due to extended history of the poster (Their previous ban was 1 weeks so I moved up the ban length to 2 weeks) we had a series of fla...

Guys, why don’t we chill for a sec. I would just like to get it out there, I support the mods decision to do this. Literally half of the moderation reports come from these 2 threads, because people go on with flaming and baiting in them. Sorry guys, just had to say it. That's utter nonsense. You li...

A lot of our banter was political, historical and cultural in nature. Not exactly appropriate for TET I'd have thought.

With this vague claim of improving discourse, you actually have to demonstrate how normal threads have better discourse than mega threads. I'm sorry, but after five years in NSG I can't discern a noticeably change in decorum between the two. I've already pointed out that many of the other political...

Markarth is alright. My main beef is it's absolutely dreadful colour palette. I wish they could have at least differentiated the buildings and rock more. Riften is much more attractive, whereas Windhelm is much more interesting and makes a competent stab at having differentiated districts (unlike Wi...

I agree that more transparency is needed. This was completely out of the blue, and as Hakons cogently pointed out, incredibly arbitrary.

RWDT and LWDT had the only good discussion on the site, generally avoiding rampant circle-jerk or partisan (and always fucking American) shit-slinging like the other megathreads.

All this tells me is that non-American political discussion isn't welcome.

Sigh . When you glorify someone (as statues almost inherently do), by necessity, you minimize their flaws. If you don’t hide them completely, you diminish their importance. This is an inherent part of…well, art itself. Is that it? And here I thought you were complaining that these statues were mini...

No. They glorify the person . You cannot separate the racism from the person. The excusal of racism and minimizing of slavery is not the intent, but it is there beneath the surface. No there isn't. The statues of Jefferson, Washington, Grant, etc. don't actually glorify racism or slavery. Only dunces (or hooligans) obsessed with race politics think so.
