The Casa-Nova Hosting Bid for Cup of Harmony XXX
The nations of Casari and Novapsolu hope to welcome you to their respective countries for Cup of Harmony xXx. Held on the Isle of Teslu in Novapsolu and the scenic Highlands of Casari.
Spacious, scenic accommodations are available in both locations as well, giving you a wonderful place to relax after the stress of the World Cup.
But don't just come for the chalets. There's soccer to be played.
Knockout Format
The format of the tournement will feature a single group stage featuring an even number of teams, the ideal number being twenty, but other numbers will be considered based on roleplaying merit.
The group stage will be carried out in the Swiss style, where each team will play for four matchdays. The first opponent for each team will be randomly drawn. At the completion of the first matchday's play, the opponents for the next matchday will be determined by pairing the teams against each other.

Using this table, the next MD's matches would be generated.
First, any teams that are completely tied will be seperated based on the results of a coin flip or random draw for the sake of determining matches. The teams which won the coin flip were designated with asterisks in the table.
There are seven teams with three points- A, C, E, K, G, I, and M. To make an even group, M is dropped from the group of teams being matched. The top six are drawn against each other, 1v6, 2v5, and 3v4, giving the first three matches as:

The remaining 3 point team, M, is drawn with the next highest team, O.

The process continues remaining 1 point teams, of which there are five. Again, the last one is dropped, and the remaining teams power-paired.

The last 1 point team is matched with the top 0 point team.

Lastly, the final group of teams, the ones with 0 points, are power-paired.

If two teams are matched by the default method that have already played before, the matches in that particular pairing group will be adjusted to give each team a unique opponent while affecting the fewest number of matches. For instance, in the previous example-

If teams A and I had previously played, the solution would be to exchange the 6th and 5th placed teams, which are tied, resulting in the matchups being-

Priority for changing matches will be given to the following-
Exchanging places of teams that are tied in the table.
Exchanging places of teams next to one another in the table, within the same pairing group.
Exchanging places of teams close to one another in the table, that are in different pairing groups.
Knockout Format
For the knockout format, the top four teams, along with any other team or teams which are tied for the fourth-place position on points, will earn a place in the knockout round.
The teams will be seeded through the following criteria-
Strength of Schedule, measured as the point total of the team's opponents
Goal Differential
Goals For
Coin Flip/Random Draw
Playoffs will continue in a knockout format, with the winner playing for the incredable Swiss Trophy, to be awarded in lieu of the boring, typical, cup-shaped championship trophy.
The Guts
Scorination will be done each day using NSFS, with matches determined by hand, as that's really the only way.
RP bonus will be greater than the regular WC- this is a competition for Roleplayers- but bonus will not be overwhelming, and you will get no sympathy if you think your roleplaying makes you deserve wins. Sorry, them's the breaks.
All coin flips will be done using a standard United States quarter. The team which is first alphabetically will be assigned heads, with the second assigned tails.
The timeline of the Cup will be a bit compressed, hopefully to fit the cup in the same period as the finals and to get us all out for a worry-free winter holiday season. A final schedule is dependant on the date of the vote.

Dancing is certainly permitted, especially considering the now happy cow due to the questions :)
But to answer the questions and comments: Casari and I (as Legalese) have previously hosted a Swiss-style soccer tournament, so this is relatively old hat for us. Pairings can be done in a matter of minutes, and will be posted with the scores, so that teams will have approx 24 hours to see who their next opponent is.
Additionally, to those who fear the concept: The idea of a Swiss-style tournament allows for a great deal of positives on the fairness level. Teams who perform well will truly earn their points, as they'll face the best teams to gain them, while those who earn nothing will truly deserve their fate, as they will have potentially easier opponents to beat, as their losses mount. Combined with a series of knockout rounds (which will include a semifinal and championship round, though likely at least one round more, as we expect there will be ties for 4th), we can help ensure that the winner of this Cup of Harmony will be a true champion (of the non-qualifiers, at least).
Lastly, we feel this is a great way to spice things up a little for the CoH. While I'd never attempt to change the finals format for the World Cup, the other tournaments are a great time for careful experimentation. The return of the Casa-Nova Swiss-Style format provides for such, adding a new element to RP for the entrants.

6, as repechage matches (i.e. any matches that would whittle the field down to 4 after the group stage) generally don't count towards KPB. As to the number of match days, it may be slightly dependent on the number of teams tied for 4th, though there shouldn't be more than 8, and likely 7 (since the odds of more than 5 teams tied for the final spot are rare).

I don't know. My experience with Swiss tourneys is that you can run them a bunch of ways, but if you start veering off the traditional course, you tend complicate things quite a bit. I mean, the concept is simple enough, but if you're going to have a knock-out, you're going to have to draw the line somewhere. If you're going with a Swiss-tourney, I would strongly suggest against adding the knock-out and making a even "fairer" competition by ensuring everyone gets to play the exact same number of matches and therefore gets the opportunity to win (or lose) as many times as they can. Of course, there's also the complication about one person who will invariably lose all of their matches (someone has to, in a Swiss tourney style).
Personally, though, I'd prefer an elimination style - more suspense, more drama, and even though the CoH is a last chance for RPs, it's going to be Christmas time, and I don't anticipate too many people doing RPs (exact for the hard core veterans); an elimination style will help the hosts out as well as make each match critically important because they have a chance to lose match opportunities (to score KPB if you're strategic; to score goals if you're a fan; to score something if you're crazy).

I think there's another benefit to this style tournement, partilcularly at this point in the year, as we have every intention to (and it's considerably likely that we will) finish before or on 23 December- I'm well
Also, it's not exactly true that someone will have to lose all of their games- it's more than possible that all teams could win or tie one of their matches, as ties are still a possible result in this format.
Either way, we've wanted to try and get this format into a KPB competition for a long time, so it's not going to change. =p
