Welcome to the opening of the second World Baseball Classic. We here in Az-cz are proud to be the official hosts of the second cup. We'd first like to thank the nation of Qazox for their great work in arranging the first World Baseball Classic and their support for us in arranging the second. Now I'd like to explain the format of the tournament.

The first round of the tournament will be a home and away round robin group stage consisting of five groups of five teams. The top two teams from each group will advance to the second round. The two best third place teams will also advance. Those teams will be determined first by record, then by run differential. If both teams are still tied at that point the team with the fewest number of runs allowed would be the next tie breaker. If after those three tie breakers are checked if teams are still tied for a spot there will be a one game playoff in Az-cz.

The twelve teams who advance will then be put into seeded groups. The order for determining seeding will be:

1. Win-Loss Record
2. Group Position
3. Pre-tournament rank
4. Runs differential
5. Number of teams advancing from your group
6. Rank of highest ranked team advancing from your group

There will be four groups of three teams. Group A2 will consist of teams ranked 1,8,12. Group B2 will consist of teams 2,7,11. Group C2 will consist of teams 3,6,10. Group D2 will consist of teams 4,5,9. Each group will then play a home and away match with each other team in their group. The winner of each group will then advance to the semifinals.

The semifinals will be seeded based on:

1. Win-Loss Record in second round
2. Rank at the end of 1st round

The semifinals will be a best of three series to be played in Az-cz. The two teams who win will then advance to the finals which will also be a best of five series.

Now I will announce the group draws:

Order w/o DH
1 Kenny Merrick Left- Typical leadoff man. Takes the Wee Willie Keeler approach to hitting "hit it where they ain't"
2 Micheal Flinter Right- Good OBP, not much power.
3 Tal Gool Left- He is the Milchamian Adam Dunn.
4 Barrett Hamilton Right- Another strike out risk but better overall hitter.
5 Marcus Loshe Right- Great all around hitter.
6 Kent Monarch Right- .280 hitter with 20 homer power. Not great at anything but good at everything.
7 Ronny Bjork Right- Sporadic hot streaks with a lot of nothing in between. Capable of both a 57 game hit streak and a 57 game hitless streak.
8 Del Carmic Left- Typical hitting catcher. He sucks.

Neutral Park, no DH used.

You can do anything while RPing, although it would be appreciated if you went in the order of the rotation for the starters, also seniority in the bullpen is top down with Vernon being the closer.

You can do anything you want bar godmodding, should you beat me to the RPing punch.

Kura-Pelland's team is based around solid defence and great speed, and plenty of variation in the pitching staff (Harmison and Murphy have serious power in their pitches, Geagan is immensely unpredictable with a nasty curveball, Rahbari has a great sinker and changeup). Where they are likely to fall down is in their hitting; simply put, not enough of them get bat to ball enough to threaten the elite sides, and many of them lack power too. All told, though, this is a reasonably well-rounded side with no glaring weaknesses, though the team could sure use a reliable contact hitter.

When playing in Kura-Pelland, there is no DH.

Qazox returns to WBC, expects improvement

As the Host of the first World Baseball Classic, Qazox Hosted 16 teams from around the world in a competition to determine the best, and Az-cz won it over West Pasco.

Now 4 years later, with a quarterfinal result at the 1st, and a decent showing at the Olympics, Qazox comes into the the 2nd WBC with a decent chance to do some damage. The young team, most of which were in their late teens/early 20's now are in their mid 20's and look good. Ryan Olds has now a fastball that has hit 101 mph on the gun and wicked 11-5 slider that just freezes right-handed batters. Juan Reed and Gabe Reyes are faster than ever, and have seriously turned into hitting machines. But the team still has some flaws, The relief is decent, and besides Olds, the starters are not very good. And most of the starting line-up strike out too much, But still hope spring eternal. Below is the group Draw and the schedule for the Team, which is now offically named the Qazox Sidewinders.

A tough test to start off as the Sidewinders will take on the Hosts and defending champs, Az-cz. The other teams in the group are making thier first appearance at the WBC, so Qazox has a decent shot to advance to the next round.

When RPing, if you RP first, please follow my rotation. You may choose relief pitchers (sensibly, I don't want my closer coming in in the sixth), and how I score. Ejections are fine (again, sensibly, unless it can make me laugh), and godmodding is frowned upon unless it can make me laugh.

Scotchpinestan's home games will be played at Woodlands Park in downtown Douglas. It is a neutral park. We do not use the designated hitter.

The Reformed Expos were once a power on the international baseball stage, winning the inaugural Summer Olympic Gold Medal, and earning respectable placings in both previous tournaments held in An Archy. Now they make their return to a much changed international field. Herewith, a breakdown of our opponents:

Angry Chimpanzees - Bipedal Apes? No?
New Montreal States (NMS) - Hail to the Paladins, er, Reformed Expos!
Liverpool England (LE) - They're still hanging around?
Iansisle - They're back again? Maybe shit hasn't changed too much since we were last around.
Kampfers - Maybe things have. Nice to meet you gentlemen, we're NMS.

And the lineup. The DH, #43 Jean-Claude Poussin (switchhitter), will bat 5th and push everyone down one spot. The DH is not used above high-school level in NMS.

CF (Throws R/Bats L) #9 Louis Bierdrot

Gnomes back to defend their title

While it took a while for fans to come around to the World Baseball Classic the first time around the second time they're very very excited. With Az-cz stepping up to the plate and organizing the tournament as well as hosting the later rounds they have a much more involved posititon this time around. As per the Az-cz tradition of making random predictions, let's take a look at the group. Unlike the world cup with a long history most of these teams are playing in their first tournament so it's hard to gauge their strength.

Group A1

This is our group and we didn't do ourselves any favors. Joining us our Qazox, Calizorinstan, Demot and Quakmybush. Qazox is an incredibly dedicated baseball nation as can be seen in organizing the first tournament and doing a lot of leg work in helping us run the second. So they're going to be incredibly tough. The Thunders from Calizorinstan are unknowns but seem feisty and we all know about the athletes from Demot and Quakmybush, so it will be tough. But considering the way we rolled through last tournament I think we'll advance with Qazox coming through as well.

Group B1

Assegai Developments, ESF, Lovisa, Yafor 2, Nitrodymium are the five teams who make up this group. The Elves ought to run away with the group, and also earn the highest finish of any team and I'll go out on a limb and guess the team from Nitrodymium will take second.

Group C1

C1 is an interesting group. The Milchamans, who gave us a heck of a time in the semis lead the group and the very dangerous Zwangzug team is the two seed. Ambrose-Douglas, Scotchpinestan, and Vephrall are all in their first cups but could be quite dangerous sides. Still the top two ought to be easily clear of the rest.

Group D1

I think this group is a lock to send one of the extra teams. Kiryu-shi leads the way with St. Samuel and Cookesland close behind. Kura-Pelland and Central Prestonia are both also showing plenty of signs of life. Some of those teams will rise up and those that do will advance. I'll go with Kiryu-shi and Cookesland and Central Prestonia taking a third place qualification spot.

Group E1

The weakest group on the top with Kampfers the weakest top seed and Iansisle the weakest second seed could lead to a suprise from the back. Indeed I think New Montreal States will top the group with Kampfers in suprise. But don't forget about Angry Chimpanzees or Liverpool England both of whom could be possible spoilers.

I think the twelfth spot will come from our group with the Thunders being a big suprise and taking the twelfth spot. Here are my guesses at the rankings after one round:

1. ESF
2. Az-cz
3. Milchama
4. Zwangzug
5. Kiryu-shi
6. Qazox
7. New Montreal States
8. Cookesland
9. Kampfers
10. Nitrodymium
11. Central Prestonia
12. Calizorinstan

Thus setting up these four second round groups:

A2: ESF, Cookesland, Calizorinstan
B2: Az-cz, New Montreal States, Central Prestonia
C2: Milchama, Qazox, Nitrodymium
D2: Zwangzug, Kiryu-shi, Kampfers

The Elves should continue to roll and advance to Az-cz as the top overall seed and we'll be close behind as the two seed. I think Qazox will knock off Milchama and take the third spot and Zwangzug will win a tough struggle to take the fourth spot.

That leaves these semifinal matchups:

ESF v Zwangzug
Az-cz v Qazox

The Elves run of good luck will come to an end against Zwangzug and despite having home field advantage Qazox will get revenge against us.

In the finals I think Qazox will vault to the top and trump Zwangzug making a nice reversal. We win when they organize and they win when we do. Still let's hope for a second title for the Gnomes.

OOC: Any suggestions on easy ways to do formatting?

(OOC: Only put spaces between every three innings, if at all?
Also, the group draw said that home teams were on the left. Is they're a reason they're on top in the line scores?)

"#s!"

"This is basbal, we get a lot of them."

"!"

The sportswriter sighed. With his boss gone, it was theoretically a time for him to be in charge, not this up-and-coming...up-and-comer. "U get the boxscore riten up. I'l rit a pom."

"Y^"

"Bcuz u sem 2 no boxscores."

"Y r u guna rit a pom^"

"Bcuz basbal is poetic."

"Ok."

With his responsibility sufficiently occupied, the Scoresheet writer got to work. The nuances of Descriptive were a guilty pleasure of his.

An early spark leads to a surge of runs
In the first inning for the Zebras. Then
Vephrall quietly puts a row of ones
Upon the scoreboard. In inning six, when

Runnon departed and Meyers came in,
A three-run rally started. Ellis, though
Maintained the Zebras' lead, and then their win
By tripling to score Eastman. Even so,

Cooper needed to come and close it out.
While Vephrall tried to tie it, Grush assured
That the outcome would never be in doubt.
A strike-out, throw from home to first, secured

The win. His grand slam was a thrilling play
But in the end, his defense saved the day.
