Ladies and gentlemen, sign-ups for the FIRST World Baseball Classic (WBC) are now CLOSED. Thanks to all who expressed interest—I promise, this is going to be a fun little tournament. We now have our sixteen participating nations. They are:

Braveria (Replacing American Fist)
Zwangzug
Kiryu-shi
St Samuel
West Pasco
Political Cartoons
Cookesland
Assegai Developments
Lovisa
Okielahoma
Qazox
Milchama
Az-cz
Kampfers
Iansisle
Elves Security Forces

Tonight I will be making a roster/scores/roleplay thread introducing the WBC and explaining some basic rules, mainly what was discussed here. Afterwards, you may all post your respective rosters. Thanks again for your interest and time!

not interested.

Also, find a scorinator, or make one. People who suggest just making up scores are ignored, and unsually have their chocolate chip cookies taken away from them.

I'd like to take part.

Instead of a 162-game season, I'd think we should either follow the example of the 2006 WBC (pool play, then brackets) or play series of games in brackets (like the MLB playoff system).

I also suggest leaving the statistics to the individual players to decide.

But don't give up on the Cubs yet. :)

Hm, that's strange. I don't remember suggesting that.

Well, what i'm trying to carry across is that you need a scorinator.

Well, I know we'd definitely have to go with an abbreviated season. I just didn't know how extreme to make it. I'll mosey on over to the MLB site, check to see how many games were played in the WBC. The rosters will probably be a bit smaller too. And the Cubs are beyond hope compadre.

And what I'm trying to tell you is that I never said anything about making up scores. I said in my original post I'd have no problem simulating the results, implying that either I have a scorinator or one is in the works. Thanks for your concern, though.

It'd be fun to play, and depending on how many nations are interested, I would suggest going with the format from the real WBC, with group play and then single elimnation. I would also suggest going with a style similar to the World Cup, where the host uses a scorinator to post the scores, and teams can determine what happened in each game by rp. But yeah, if it happens, I want to play.

And the Cubs are beyond hope compadre.
Blatantly false. There is always hope, and the Cubs exemplify that.

Hey man, I'm just messing with ya. I'm about as big a Cubs fan out there. Just look in my closet...rows of Prior jersies I can't wear anymore (lol).

I checked out the WBC wiki, and they played it round robin, elimination style like previously suggested. I'd be willing to do it that style, but it all depends on whether I get enough interest or not. 16 teams participated in the WBC. I could probably get away with 12, but anything lower than that is kinda pathetic :/.

Oh, and apparently there were 30 man rosters in the WBC. A little excessive...I might cut it down. Thoughts?

Im definatley up for it. St Samuel would like to take part and maybe a couple of my puppet nations if you want to make some numbers up.

Ok, sorry for misinterpretation. :)

I think 16 or 12 would be reasonable numbers for teams: wait a day or two to gauge interest. 30 does seem high for a roster.

I think it was 30 because there was a pitch limit, so teams had to have a lot of pitchers. Presuming that we won't have a pitch limit, rosters can be smaller. I'd suggest 20-25, considering mlb teams have 25 players.

I'm interested.

BTW Cubbies Suck Brewers Rule!

Alright, here's the deal. I'm at the workplace right now and I'm kind of scatter-brained, so you're definitely going to see a more organized effort from me when I get home. That said, we're going to go ahead with a 20 man roster...you gotta figure, 8 position players, five back-ups, and seven pitchers oughta be enough. I'll post the scores (after using my handy-dandy scorinator), you guys can roleplay the results. There will probably be an rp bonus.

For now, I'm just looking for interest. Once I've got 12-16 teams, I'm going to make a megathread that will be for scores, rosters, and roleplays. Hopefully this thing will grow. Rest assured I'll be dedicated...it's just a matter of finding the players.

For the duration of the Classic, I'll be using a puppet of mine, Braveria, so don't be surprised if you see that name floating around.

Finally, a couple of issues. DH or no DH? A DH would probably be a wise choice. And should all the games be hosted in one nation, or should games alternate between nation ballparks?

I'm interested.

And, the Yankees will win it all again, finally.

I hate the DH, and I would rather not use it. I'm not sure about where the games are, but if it's in various nations, we could make it so that the home team decides DH or no DH, maybe.

And the Yankees are NOT going to win it all.

And RP bonus=good, especially at the begining with no team ranks.

RP-bonus good, DH bad. :p

Cookesland signs up (it's our national sport)

Assegai Developments is interested.

We're prepared to send the Assegai Developments National Baseball Team, also known as the Dodgers.
