Saugeais Baseball Tournament Everything Thread

Postby Saugeais » Wed Jan 05, 2011 10:04 pm

Hello, and welcome to the first annual Saugeais Open Baseball Tournament!

-First order of business, place you rosters, uniforms, etc. in your opening post. Feel free to RP in your post too.

-Secondly, I will draw everyone with random lots. Numbered from 1 to 16 based on how you entered, I will have a random number generator decide who will face who in the bracket. I will get the brackets out by tomorrow morning.

-Thirdly, the DH WILL be used in this tournament. So set your rosters accordingly.

-I will designate the previous topic as a general discussion thread. If you have any questions, please ask them there and I will get to them as soon as I can.
General Discussion thread: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=80491

-And finally, I will begin scorination for the tournament on Saturday! I will make a schedule and post it in the next post ASAP.

Without further ado, I designate the Saugeais Baseball Tournament open for business!!

Choose my runscorers: Y, if I haven't already
Choose my lineup: N
Follow my Pitching Rotation: Y
Godmod scoring events: Y / N, any caveats
RP injuries to my players: Y, but I'll decide severity
Godmod injuries to my players: N

Godmod other events: Y, weather is OK (I am RL located in Pennsylvania US), nothing illogical and no deaths please.

The Lycrabon Blue Jays, coming off a disappointing WBC 17, enter the Saugeais Open having watched the exciting seven-game epic between Newmanistan and Tarrentum with envy - the final in their home stadium, Riverside Stadium in St. Catherine (which is where their home games in the group stage will be), with two teams not wearing the sky blue and gray. After the debacle that was the Classic, and the Jays are playing for their jobs; a poor showing here most likely means major turnover for WBC 18. Here's their line-up:

(Pitcher spot or DH)
LF 7 J.C. Tyson (24)
1B 1 Carl Maynard (25)
RF 9 Jonathan Short (30)
SS 4 Frank Thompson (34)
2B 2 Chad Price (25)
C 6 Gene Welch (23)

DH/SS 31 Teddy Downs (29)
C 32 Wally Newton (27)
LF 33 Alonzo Osborn (24)
CF 34 Andrew Garrett (30)
RF 35 Bryce George (28)

PITCHING ROTAtION:
P 18 Tom Benson (22)
P 19 Tyrone Conley (32)
P 20 Zachary Francis (27)

RELIEVERS:
LRP 39 Mitchell Johnston (26)
MRP 42 Leroy Harrison (32)

Carasatoga Sweats as it Awaits its Match vs Western Cuba

The pots have been drawn and Carasatoga's first test in the Saugeais Baseball Tournament will come against a strong Western Cuba side, coming off a U-21 title. This will be Carasatoga's first international match ever, and the team is excited, yet anxious about facing such a solid team in the first round. Pitcher 'Witt' Robinson is leading this Carasatogan squad, and many say he is at his best ever.
"Yes, Witt Robinson is going to be the key in beating Western Cuba. I mean, if you look at what he's throwing right now, I think they're going to have a tough time, no matter how good they are or how new we are."-Coach Washington
Of his significant role in the upcoming game, Robinson said, "I know that everyone is going to be counting on me against Western Cuba, and I understand and appreciate that, but I'm not the only guy on the team. Look at Ben [Banatay] and Drue [Reese] too, they have been batting unbelievably in practice, and I bet you they each get at least a run in the match."
We talked to the two together about how they think the match will go.
Reese: "I mean, we know Western Cuba is tough, but truth be told, we've never played them, or anybody internationally for that matter, so we can still surprise everyone."
Banatay: "We're ready for it, we feel like this can be ours."
Carasatogan fans are waiting in anticipation for the nations international opener and it is sure to be one to remember. This has been TJ Brett, TVC Sports.

The Fiery Jackals are Vulshain's first international baseball team. These players are young and talented, and hope to make their nation proud of them. They have practiced long and hard for this very day.

Colors:

Away: Silver and Blue

Home: Black and reddish-orange

THE CONFEDERATE SENTINEL

Vulshain Prepares for First Game: Vs. Civil Citizenry

Vulshain's Fiery Jackals, the nation's first international baseball team is preparing itself to face off against the teams from other nations, teams who are experienced. However, the players on the Fiery Jackals are not only determined, but talented as well. The star of the team is Joasia Canan, a young female Lobo who said that she has been a huge baseball fan since she was six. "We're all nervous, but we are all ready to go. We each have practiced long and hard to get here today. I know my parents and three younger brothers, and everyone else back home is going to be watching me and my teammates. We're going to make them proud of us."

Like Canan, the other players are just as determined. Coach Georg Eduard is sure his team will do their best. "They've all been practicing long and hard. Heck, they've even been practicing in their spare time. That's how determined the Fiery Jackals are."

The Vulshainian Fiery Jackals are scheduled to play against the team from Civil Citizenry.

(((OOC: Lol I forgot a roster... My bad)))
Choose my runscorers: Y
Choose my lineup: N
Follow my Pitching Rotation: Y
Godmod scoring events: N
RP injuries to my players: Y, but telegram me when you do
Godmod injuries to my players: N
Eject my players: Y
Godmod other events: N

Rotation(in order)
#2 Hanzel Don Virk: 32 years old, right hander. Best pitcher on rotation, good fielder for a pitcher as well.
#42 Ryan Johnson, 22 years old. Left Hander. Fastball hits 99 on the gun, has a curve and cutter. Good location, up and rising star
#26 Louis De Graza: 34 year old. Right hander. Knuckleballer. Fastball goes to high 80s, sometimes hits 90 in the first few innings.
#15 Lucas Pidoski: 26 years old. Left hander. Fastball reaches 93 mph, good curveball and cutter as well. Hangs curveball sometimes
#21 Victor Ruiz: 28 years old. Right hander. Fastball hits 93 mph, but cutter hits 91 mph. Slider uppers 80s, but low stamina. Max he can go is 7 innings.

Batter Order: (Have DH at home. All right handers unless LH is put there, which means left handed hitter. S means switch hitter)
1 CF Yamano LaFave. 28 years old. Very fast, likes to steal bases. Not the best fielder, but has a strong arm.
2 2B Connor McMall. 22 years old. Very superb fielder, has little to no power. Hits single, do not see extra base hits from him.
3 DH Todd Jones(LH). 31 years old. Power hitter. Hits for low average, but when he connects, it goes a long way.
4 3B Hank Johnson. 27 years old. Hits for average. Gets lots of extra base hits, but rarely leaves the park.
5 LF Alphonso Ramirez(S). 29 years old. Great fielder, has range and a great arm. Not the best hitter, but has speed on basepath.
6 RF Franklin De Winters. 20 years old. Very young, has lots of speed. Lots of potential, going to be a great player.
7 C Evan Sartorious. 29 years old. Good arm, throws out lots of baserunners. Typical hitting catcher though.
8 SS Hanley Choo. 33 years old. Losing range, and has no power. Gets hits in from time to time.
9 1B Jonah Miller(LH). 34 years old. Great fielder, but terrible hitter. Hits #9 for a reason.
When no DH, Put pitcher at #9 spot, and make Todd Jones(the DH) the 1B.

Bullpen(7 pitchers)
LRP Ryan Brown. 34 years old. Left hander. Former starter, can fill in for starters. Long reliever, did not make rotation.
MRP Travis York. 33 years old. Right hander. Can go 2-3 innings. Fastball hits 96 mph on the gun. Has slider, and tough curve
MRP Shin Mee-Sung. 25 years old. Right hander. Can go 2-3 innings. Fastball reaches 94 mph. Has devasting sinker.
MRP Edward Museveni. 22 year old. Right hander. Can go 1-2 innings. Fastball reaches triple digits. Not much else he has though. Future closer
MRP/SU Grant McLeonard. 24 year old. Left hander. Can go 3-4 innings. Fastball hits 98 mph. Has a slider, best pitcher out of the bullpen, hands down
SU Brian Volquez. 23 year old. Right hander. Can go 1-2 innings max. Fastball hits 97 mph, has slider and sinker. Curve hangs too much
Closer Jonathan Green. 26 year old. Right hander. Can only go 1 inning, two if he does not throw a lot in his first inning. Always pulled after 40 pitches. 99 mph fastball, has a sinker and silder. Curveball hangs a lot, and throws it way too much.

Bench(4 players)
C/1B Hank Sanders. 21 years old. Catcher/1B, is a lefty. Lots of potential, on the bench for now though
IF(plays 1B, 2B, 3B, and SS) Matthew Linkle. 33 years old. Lots of range, past his prime
OF(plays LF, RF, and CF) Daisuke Kang. 22 years old. Lots of potential. Strong arm, developing hitter.
Bernie Stafford. 32 years old. Utility man, can play 2B, 3B, SS, CF, LF, and RF. Not the strongest arm, but lots of range. Only foreign born player on roster, moved to Silver Beach when he was 8 years old. Has been a citizen for 9 years.

Manager: Justin Wanshon. 55 years old. Used to manage the Dragons, led them to a surprise playoff birth. Directed team to semifinals birth in WBC 17

Western Cuban Reds U-21 Roster

Pitchers

Fredek Fenyak #18- Fredek's true position in Pitching in High School was a Closer but he is attempting to go as a Starter in the Keisler Cup. His best pitch is a 2 Seam Fastball.

Pavel Svoboda #32- Pavel didn't starting playing Baseball till his Junior Year but already his skills are great, hr has a 11-1 all time record. With a ERA of .81. He is a true gem. His best pitch is a Slider.

Patrik Horáček #99- One of the best Western Cuban Pitchers to play the game in High School. He has great expectations. Has a life time record of 55-1. A ERA of 1.23 his only lose came in the Province Finals during his Freshman Year when he let Four Home Runs off him. However that was just a rookie mistake and he is now the best pitcher in Western Cuba under 21. He throws a great knuckle.

Relievers

Radek Kriz #69- Radek was lucky to be selected on the U-21 National Team, in a haunting event the person selected in him developed a bad case of the Swine Flu and was unable to attend the Keisler Cup. His life record is 8-2. 2.43 ERA. Likes to throw the Curve.

Stepan Nemecek #43- A Religious kid, Stepan plays for the best Catholic School baseball Team in the Country. His lifetime record is 23-4 and he has thrown Two No Hitters one of them being a perfect game. He has a lifetime average of 1.53 ERA and likes to throw the Change Up.

Josef Slavik #54- Never has played baseball in his life, scouts found him on the streets of Vladgrad chucking a ball at 90 mph, things should get interesting when he plays.

Coaches

Ivan Kaspar- Coaches the Vladgrad City Stars, an Expansion Team in the International Baseball League. His decided to coach the U-21 Baseball Team as many of the players go to the IBL

Bruno Broz- Coached the National High School Champions in Western Cuba, joined the U-21 Team as there assistant. Knows a few players on the team like Patrik Horáček.

Infield

C Ziven Balev #1- Voted Best Prospect in the IBl, he looks to have a good future on the Tarrentum Storm, been playing baseball since he was 4.

1B Fred Cech #2- The Teams Power Hitter Fred hit a home run in every single game in his high school career however though he was in the Top Five in the Country for Strikeouts.

2B Erik Bures #3- Probably the Best All Around Player on the Team. He can run, he can slide, he can hit, he can field, however though he can't get out of trouble.

SS Fabi Levanda #4- Known as the Kid he is the youngest player on the U-21 Team being at age 16. However though his skills make up for his age.

3B Arman Pletenetsky #5- Great Prospect, played High School Baseball at Portland High School in Western Cuba, holds the record for most consecutive games with a hit in High School in Western Cuba with 54. Drafted in the IBL by the Plymouth Bears of the IBL.

Outfield

LF Brody Ukhtomskii #6- The Only Colored Player on the U-21 Team, he has African and Russian Heritage, is a great fielder, however though he is widely mistreated as of his skin color, and if the Home Crowd makes fun of him with racist jokes he will struggle.

CF Yuri Kalandarishvili #7- Like one of there relievers Yuri has never played a game of baseball in his life, however though his arm is amazing and he can easily throw a ball from the Warning Track to Home Plate, his debut should be interesting to.

RF Vladmiri Poderni #8- Making his Debut as a Right Fielder, Vladmiri used to play 2B but since the position was already taken he has been transfered to right field things should get interesting

OOC: I decided to post a first response also.

U-21 Western Cuban National Team will be Tested

In a little while the U-21 Western Cuban National Team will take it's first test against the outside world. Against Carasatoga. A nation just entering the NS Sports world, and looking for a win against the strong U-21 Western Cuban team who is replacing the Red's regular national team who came off a solid quarterfinal berth in the WBC. Which is now ranked 6th in the world.

However though statistics still show favor for the Under 21's in this tournament. As the U-21 team is the best Under 21 team in the world it will be tough to play against them. Sport Expects have even ranked the Under 21 team as being capable of being a solid national team by it's self. Also one of the star players of the Red's National Team has also announced to join in for the fun at the last minute. Star Western Cuban player Philip Castro has announced that he will mentor the young players and will be joining the roster. As a player and a batting coach. In which Castro hopes to increase morale for the teams first game.

However though the U-21 team will be facing a worthy opponent. Carasatoga is taking place in it's first ever game on NS sports and is hungry for a victory. Though pitcher Patrik Horáček had different ideas. He plays to outshine his opponent Witt Robinson in the next game. Patrik had this to comment to the media a few days before the game.

" I have expectations for a great game against my opponent Witt Robinson. It's my first match on the international stage, and his first match to. Possibly this will develop into a rivalry or we will become friends. Who knows. However though I plan to play my best and come out at the top. Which comes a lot for me. "

Patrik pitched an undefeated record during the Keisler Cup, and wishes to continue his streak onto the stage for this game.

OOC: Just to let you know the new WBC rankings have came out. They are on the discussion thread. By the way is this going to be a series or first one to win advances?

National Journal
It's our time!

Starting tomorrow, the great nation of Saugeais will host their first ever sports tournament! After coming off of an incredible quarterfinal run at the 17th World Baseball Classic, the Department of National Athletics has announced that it will use it's current funds to host the first Saugeais Open Baseball Tournament. With Saugeais and 15 of the finest teams from around the world, this is shaping up to be a strong tournament. "Well, it was an "open" invitation, first come first served," said Jim Bedouin, head of the DNA. "And we just so happened across 15 fine teams to grace the baseball diamonds. From the world familiars such as Western Cuba and Lycrabon to the newcomers such Carasatoga and Emilio Aguinaldo, we hope to put forth a great spectacle and wish all the athletes the best of luck.

Stadia

When asked about the current conditions of the nation's baseball stadiums, Bedouin said, "While their were a couple that needed to be either built or remodeled, the rest of the stadiums are in tip-top shape due to just finishing up the season for the Saugeais Baseball Federation. 9 out of the 12 stadiums around the nation will be used for their comfortable seating, awesome services, top notch food, and of course, great sightlines for the game. Montbenoit will hold the third place and finals matches at Stade de Saugeais and the Montbenoit Dome, with either stadium positioned on opposite ends of town. The opening round matches will be at Crater Inc. Stadium in Longview, Pirie Place Stadium in Arçon, Pierre L'Enfant Memorial Stadium in Les Alliés, and Metalton Stadium in Metalton. The second round matches will be in Stade Liket Mans at Ville-DuPont and the Gilley Dome in Gilley, and the semifinal will take place at Jeston Park in Bugny.

National Team

We caught up with the head of the baseball team, Greg Hanson, who was finishing up team preparations for the opening match against Cotdelapoms. "well, we just need to keep focused and build off of the run we had at the Classic. Since we are playing at home, with the crowd behind us all the way, I feel that this team can and will make the finals. It remains to be seen what kind of performance will be had." Claude Gagné will be the opening day starter. He had an OK outing at WBC 17; in three games he went 2-1 with 14 strikeouts and a 3.86 ERA.

Be sure to catch all the games on the SNN Sports Network or online at national-journal.com!

The batters swing,
the cheerleaders cheer
and the spitfyred1 fyreballz are of to the races

Led by a group of aging veterans, the team view this tournament as a last hurrah, and hope to do well and inspire little spitfyred1'ers to take up the sport.
It wont be an easy feat, the men are aching with weary feet and weary arms, but they have lots of smarts.
Mr Wladimir Guerro, is a feared hitter known for being able too hit anything, he should be a key offensive contributer.
And Mr Je'red Weave, although youngest on the team, is the best pitcher, and throw strikeouts all day.

Saugeais Baseball Open to Begin Tonight;
Base Mouflons Debut on International Scene

The Civil Citizenry Base Mouflons will play its first international tournament at the Saugeais Open Baseball Tournament in the large nation of Saugeais. The tournament will be played in a single-elimination format, with sixteen teams participating. Civil Citizenry drew Vulshain in the first round; the two teams will face off in a best-of-three series, to be played at Crater Inc. Stadium in Longview, Saugeais. The stadium seats just 26,000, but local reporters predict the arena will be packed for the series, as the nation spills over with excitement over the tourney. The winner of this series will await either Stuffed Taxidermists or Meguroko - both of whom are in Civil Citizenry's group at the ongoing World Lacrosse Championships X, where CVC is dominating the world. After tonight's game, the Base Mouflons and the Fiery Jackals will play again on Monday, followed by a potential tiebreaker on Wednesday if the teams split games.

Due to a transmission error from Saugeais to Civil Citizenry, the Base Mouflons' roster will be released tomorrow instead of today (the original plan). CVC Sports Report apologizes for any inconvience, but make sure to stay tuned with us as we follow the Base Mouflons' progress in Saugeais!

Vulshain Has First Match Against Civil Citizenry

The Fiery Jackals lost by one point against Civil Citizenry Base Mouflons in the first Saugeais Baseball Tournament. Coach Georg Eduard told us, "Well, it was a good game, but the Base Mouflons were more experienced I'm afraid." The Fiery Jackals are determined to make up for their defeat.

Western Cuba U-21 can't Handle Carasatoga National Team as they Win 4-3

In the first match of a best-of-three series, the Carasatoga G-Hawks win in an upset over the Western Cuba U-21 team in the Saugeais Baseball Tournament, 4-3. It's the nation's first ever international baseball win in its first ever match. There was a scare in the 2nd inning as Western Cuban pitcher Horacek went out with an injury and it is still unknown if he will return, but fans all over Carasatoga cheered as the G-Hawks were tied with Western Cuba 3-3 in the bottom of the 9th, when fan-favorite Ben Banatay smashed in a home run to win 4-3. Banatay would finish with 3 RBI, as Drue Reese got the other RBI.
We talked to Banatay amid an array of cheers after his sensational match, "Wow, I mean... that was the best I have played ever. I just... am so proud and honored to have accomplished this feat for my country," he began to tear up and then screamed, "Go Carasatoga!" and the hall erupted in cheers.
Coach Bill Washington was just as emotional about the achievement, "This was an historic match for us, and we came through with shining colors. Tomorrow's match... Western Cuba had better watch out."
Witt Robinson pitched a monster game, he says one of his best, "Horacek challenged me, and I brought it. I mean, my pitches we on fire. He was incredible tonight too, I can't believe he got injured though, and before you ask, no, I don't believe that is why we won. Hey, I also said that Ben and Drue would each get at least a run... well what do you know."
Tomorrow, the national team will play their second match against Western Cuba, who is now down their star pitcher, and the G-Hawks need a win if they want to be guaranteed a spot in the quarterfinals. Baseball is Carasatoga's national pastime... and the fans here are proving that for our team. For TVC Sports, this has been TJ Brett.

Western Cuban U-21 Can't Handle Carasatoga

Yesterday was a game that the U-21 team should of proven itself in but didn't. The U-21 team lost 4-3. Partly because of Patrik Horáček's injury during the 2nd inning when he tore his shoulder muscle. He's return to the tournament is doubtful at best. Many people only except for him to come back if the Reds reach the tournament. Currently he is in Arçon City hospital in normal care.

The man who has been assigned to replace him is Tom Novak. A member of the Western Cuban National Team. However before it can be confirmed this must be approved by Saugeais. The head of the tournament. As it is not known if someone can be added to the roster in case of an injury.

Meanwhile the star for the Western Cuban side was Philip Castro. Belting two home runs during the game. One of them which was out of the park and the other a home run just grazing the left field fence. He also knocked in an RBI and went 3-4 throughout the whole game. With the only pitch being unable to get a hit being a ground out to First.

Because of this there are many rumors throughout the Western Cuba Media that it was unwise to give the U-21 the chance to play instead of the national team. However though Team Manager Ivan Kasper has not speak about the situation. However though Jose Peterson Team Manager of the Western Cuban National Team has.

" In my opinion I think Ivan Kasper is doing a solid job in keeping the U-21 team up with international opponents. However though I think it is unwise by our leader Makarov the second putting the U-21 in the tournament. Instead of the National team. As it limits our chances of winning. "

However though many are surprised on what Peterson has said. As in the rules of the government. Peterson has in a way spoken against Makarov. As Freedom of Speech is outlawed in Western Cuba and basically Peterson said Makarov was stupid. Something really not that bad, however against the rules in Western Cuba. We will bring you latest updates if Peterson is fired from his job. Or possibly someone else?

OOC: How did, like, two great RPers get paired up in the first round? That sucks.

A disappointing loss by the fyreballz in their opening game of the Saugeais Baseball Tournament Puts them on the hot seat.
Despite extensive training and the hopes of their countrymen weighing on them, The Fyreballz lost. Despite being productive on offense, the defensive aspect of Spitfyred was surely lacking.
A weakly pitched game by Trewor Kahill allowed numerous hits into the outfield, where the trio of Crawdad, Hamlinton, and Zusuki couldn't catch for their lives. In addition shortstop and captain Derrik Jetter was unable to convert any double plays. Outmatched the Fyreballz train for the next game.
Jetter - We have been working on catching and chemistry a lot more than before last game and we expect to lower the amount of blown plays. In addition with Neftali Feliz we hope to be more competitive.
Feliz - I hope to be dominant againt EA, by mixing my pitches up and bring some heat.
DH Wladimir Guerro was named team MVP for the first game after hitting 2 homeruns.
Guerro - Kids, there is nothing to it, really, just keep your eye on the ball, and swing hard.

A terrific outing by Neftali Feliz of the Fyreballz limited Emilio Aguinaldo to 2 runs, and Spitfyred1 is going to a decisive game 3

Feliz - "I went out there to win and I did. By mixing up the heat with the spin I was able to help us survive a piss-poor offensive attack. And WOW mvp of the game. I'm the best pitcher in the tournament, and playing as such, No-one can stop me! Feliz out!"

Captain Derrik Jetter - "Well, I wouldn't go that far, but yes Nefy pitched a wonderful game, as such he will be making a future roster, while Kahill will not. Our entire defense worked well, so we picked up the win. I must say, our offense was lacking majorly."

Catcher Moe Mower - "I would like to take some credit for Nefy's great output, after all I call the pitches... but yeah I gotta work on offense and preping the next pitcher, Clivv"

Clivv Leed (next games pitcher) - "Well, nothing beats playing nationally, I hope to tire out EA and have a shutout, I also hope to inspire some good offense.
1, 2, 3, GO FYREBALLZ"
