(DW) Troops loyal to President Bashar al-Assad are about to score one of their biggest victories in the country's war. Western leaders called for an "immediate" ceasefire as rebels fled from their last stronghold in Aleppo.
Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said that the opposition groups have lost control of over 80 percent of their enclave in eastern Aleppo. The result, the watchdog said, was that rebels were being forced to fight "a war of attrition," swearing to never surrender as victory became less and less likely.
Later on Wednesday, SOHR announced that government forces had indeed retaken all of the Old City, but the news has not yet been confirmed by military sources.
(RT) A Tuesday report from the Russian Center for Reconciliation, which said that Syrian forces have reclaimed five more districts in the eastern part of Aleppo. Some reports suggest that up to 85 percent of the area has been liberated. The Syrian Army now controls 65 percent of the overall city of Aleppo, according to the military.
Aleppo has been split between the Syrian government, and rebels and militant factions since the start of Syria’s civil war in 2011, which has killed hundreds of thousands of people and displaced millions.
What do you all think of this great news? Syria and Russia are close to liberating the city of Aleppo, long controlled by the zionist, west-backed terrorists, the "Free" Syrian Army. President Bashar al-Assad will soon confirm that peace has been brought to Syria, and now with President Trump pledging to end support to the terrorist rebels, they will surrender in fear. How long do you all think it will be until the Syrian Civil War is officially over? Allah Souria Bashar w Bas!
