Taroman Civil War (IC/UOIN ONLY)

Background:
The Armed Republic of Taroma is an authoritarian nation that heavily infringes on the political freedoms of its citizens. Any political ideology outside of the government's own is strictly illegal, and offenders are jailed or even worse.

In the past year the socialist Taroman Liberty Party has illegally gained support on its platforms that fight for civil rights and political freedoms of the individual. The government has tried cracking down on it and suppressing their views, but that only raised their support.

In the past few weeks, protests by the party have been breaking out, most peacefully. However, the latest protest, occurring on November 29, 2016 in the downtown of Arota turned violent as government forces used lethal force to attempt to disperse the protesters. Dozens have died and hundreds have been injured. The occurrence has enraged the country, and support for the party has skyrocketed.

The head of the Liberty Party, George Istrati, gave a brief statement on the happens:

"The government of the Armed Republic of Taroma has partaken in unforgivable crimes against its own citizens throughout its entire history. It's crimes have been highlighted today through the ruthless massacre of its own citizens. Even though I hate to say it, my brothers and sisters, the actions of the government have forced me to. Now is the time for war. The government of Taroma can not be allowed to exist in is current form. We must take back the land and give it to the citizens, make Taroma a land where all can succeed. Stand with me brothers, and we will take back Taroma!"

Since that statement, forces all around the Union are gearing up. The government the has created many weapons to prepare, but troops are defecting by the tens of thousands, taking weapons with them. The rebels have gained some allies for the sake of aid against an oppressive regime, while the government has gotten allies of those who will stop at nothing to prevent communism. The Taroman Civil War will essentially be a proxy war between right nations such as Krinchreich, and left nations such as Matore.

Executive Mansion, Harper SSA. The IFR capitol.

President Harper picks up his phone. "Get me Chief General Darrah."

A man wearing a leather jacket with medals and ribbons plastered all over it walks in, stomps his feet together, and salutes. His uniform doesn't seem to match the President's black suit and blue tie. The jacket doesn't even match its own decorations. But it's the IFR's military standard, and the Chief General, who is in charge of every branch of the military (But still subject to Harper's orders), wears it with pride. Harper salutes the Chief General back, and then takes up his relaxed stance again.

"You wanted to see me, Mr. President?" the man asks. "Yes," Harper replies with a calm tone. "Sit down, Chief General. Could I interest you in a drink? Maybe a cigar?" he asks as he walks over to a liquor cabinet. "No thank you, sir," Darrah answers. "I find alcohol and tobacco to be detrimental to my skills as a leader." "Suit yourself, Chief General," Harper says, opening the glass doors to find a glass of whiskey.

"How much do you know about Taroma, Chief General?" asks Harper, still with a calm tone, pouring whiskey into a glass. "It's a small country in the Caucasus region, Mr. President. Lately there's been a series of socialist protests against the government." Harper puts the bottle back into the cabinet, closes the door, and turns around, sipping the drink.

"So I'm imagining that you think this will be just business as usual, Chief General. March in, win a war, go back home. Another day, another communist rebellion crushed. Right?" Darrah looks around, confused. "Uh, yes, sir?"

Harper sets down his glass on his desk in front of Darrah. "Well, they say shit happens, Chief General. And apparently we went so long with shit not happening than when it does, as it did just minutes ago, the shit doesn't just hit the fan. No, it hits the fan of the jet of the 747 that's fully loaded with orphans, kittens, and nuns. I know I just mixed up two expressions, but bear with me. My point is, Matore has pledged allegiance to these rebels. What should we do, Chief General?"

"We should stand our ground, Mr. President," he says confidently, despite the President's cursing and ranting. "Let Matore know that the IFR won't back down, even in the face of a proxy war." Harper gets a wide grin on his face and leans on his desk, right in front of Darrah. "I'm so glad you share my opinion, Chief General. Set our MILCOM Alert Level to 2. We are going to war. I want the Ground Forces and Air Force landing on beaches in the east, and I want Starmada constantly raining hell down onto its defenses to support the landing. Good luck, Chief General."

Darrah stands at attention, salutes, and leaves the room, with the door closing loudly behind him. Harper picks up his whiskey and finishes the rest. "God fuckin' bless the IFR," he toasts.

Libertate, rebel capital on the west coast. A basement of an abandoned government facility. The president of the rebellion, George Istrati, is passed out on a couch after staying up for 4 days straight over war tensions. A servant bursts into the basement, obviously exhasted. He awakes the leader.

"Mr. Istrati, we have urgent news that you need to know immediately."

"Wha-What? The fuck is so urgent that I need to be awakened?"

"Sir, the IFR is moving. Their air force is over the Atlantic as we speak. Matore isn't ready to mobilize yet and we haven't heard anything from Verlannn at all."

Silence.

Silence.

"Where are your parents, boy?"

"My dad is a prisoner in Arota, he was arrested during the protests. My mother was assassinated."

"How old are you?"

"14, sir."

"What do you want in this country, son?"

"I just want to see a nation where people can live their lives and say whatever they want without having to worry about having their lives ruined because of it."

Silence.

"There are people who don't want that son. People say we're the evil ones because we think that everyone should have a chance at life.

Tell my generals it's go-time, boy. Get all the boats ready on the east coast. Start up all the jets. Awaken the people."

The servant runs out of the room. The war is beginning.

"Mr Hernandez, we need to go! IFR is- what are you doing with that spoon and lighter, sir?"

"What? Oh nothing, nothing, nothing at all," the president says, desperately putting things away in a drawer. "What we're you saying, minister?"

"The IFR is mobilizing. They're nearing Europe as we speak. If they get to Taroma first and we're far behind,it'll be dead."

"Well shit. The first major war we're in and it's halfway across the damn world. Alright, we need to go. Get the Tristars and 700s ready. Tell Verlann that if he wants to piggyback off me, that we have to go now."

"Sir, where will we go? Taroma is nearly entirely landlocked by our enemies, and if we jus try to rush in there all-"

"I don't fucking know, just GO GO GO!"

Hernandez pushes the minister out if the office and slams the door behind him. In the background, sounds of Hernandez swearing and struggling with a lighter can be heard.

The president looks up from a stack of paperwork he'd been working on for the past 7 hours.

"The IFR is moving to attack Taroma! They'll decimate it unless Taroma gets help fast."

The president thinks for a moment

"Ready the navy, get the troops on board those transports, and mobilize the V.E.R.. Convene with Matore at the earliest possible opprotunity. Give it your all."

Verann looks back down at the papers.

"Good luck, general."

Emarige, the capital of Inceptia. Premier Henderson is addressing the Inceptian Parliament on the upcoming conflict.

"Friends and fellow members of the National-Socialist Inceptian Party, we are faced with a dire situation. Taroma is facing civil war, and nations from across the world have pledged their allegiance to both sides. Many foreign leaders have asked me what role we shall take in this crisis. Shall we aid the government that has served its peoples for many years or the rebels demanding freedom?"

Henderson leans over the podium and begins smiling.

"We all know the answer to this, of course! Inceptia does not tolerate terrorism of any kind! I have sent a message to the Taroman government informing them of our intention to back the government militarily and economically."

A member of the Inceptian Parliament and known leader of an opposing faction within the party stands up and begins shouting at the former COB agent.

"Why should we support a distant totalitarian regime? It's a waste of Inces and Inceptian lives! We don't give a damn about some civil war on the other side of the planet! Let's instead try to profit off of the war and sell weaponry to both sides."

Certain members of the Inceptian Parliament are foolish enough to nod or murmur phrases of agreement at this. Premier Henderson frowns and writes down the names of these individuals for later use.

"You think that this is a waste? Fool. Despite our standing within the Union of Independent Nations, many fellow states don't give us the respect we rightfully deserve! This isn't about Taroma, it's about showing Inceptia's might in times of conflict. We have never been tested like this before."

"I mentioned that other countries had pledged their support to various side within the rapidly approaching conflict. The IFR, Krinchreich, Holy Shot, and Islacon have all backed the government, while Matore, Veralann, and Inharax have all pledged support for the rebels. If we fail to participate, it will imply that we are one of the other nations quivering in fear at the possibility of engaging in battle with these legendarily strong states. Are we strong, or weak? This war shall test our mettle."

"But I must now go to oversee military and COB operations, as our forces are rapidly approaching through the Indian Ocean. Glory to Inceptia!"

The entire Parliament rises to their feet and shouts "Glory to Inceptia," in response. As he walks away, Henderson chuckles to himself. He didn't even know why he still addressed the idiots. It wasn't as though they had any power in the government.

Arota, capital city of the armed republic. Control tower of Arota's airspace. One of the main controllers notices an unathourized aircraft entering airspace and notifies his superiors. Immediately, two Mig-21s are dispatched from the Arota Air Base to intercept the aircraft. The Mig-21s catch up quickly, noticing that it appears to be an F-16 from their air force. One of the Taroman Mig pilots attempts to establish direct radio contact.

"Unidentified F-16 pilot, you have breached Taroman airspace of which you have no authorization to enter. If you can hear us, climb to flight level 200 and contact the controller on frequency 123.90."

The F-16 makes no attempts to comply, even after 3 repeats of the message. The Mig pilots are discussing shooting the F-16 down, when it suddenly dives and rapidly speeds up. The Mig pilots, caught off guard, attempt to follow, but are far behind it. They attempt to fire at the jet, but they are too far behind to be accurate.

The chase ensues for nearly 10 minutes. The Mig pilots start to catch up, as they realize with dread that the F-16 is headed straight for the capital building. They watch in horror as the F-16 fires two missles directly at the building. At this time they finally strike the target, but it was a horrible mistake. Their cannons destroyed the stabilizers of the F-16. It has lost all control and is headed straight for the building right after the missles.

[CENSORED], a small farming village nearly 200 miles away from Taroma. Petar Suciu, the president of the Armed Republic, is in hiding. There had been over two dozen attempts on his life in the past few days. He needed to run away to survive.

Petru Grigorescu, the top Air Force general, walks into the room with a solemn look on his face.

"What is it, Mr Grigorescu?"

"Sir... I think you should turn think the television on."

One of the servants turns on the television and flips to a government run news channel.

"...Terror in the streets of Arota. Hundreds injured, early reports indicate 107 dead. All because of an attack by the terrorist organization, the "Taroman Liberty Party..."

The president stands up and slams his fist in the desk.
"HOW THE FUCK DID THIS HAPPEN?"

"Rumors are that this attack was one done by a military jet stolen from the Taroman Air force. The jet entered unauthorized air space, and was intercepted by two Taroman Air Force Mig-21 fighters. The Mig-21s permitted the aircraft to stay airborne for nearly half an hour before it flew right into the capital building."

The President walks to the general and strikes him in the head, knocking him straight to the ground. He then repeatedly stomps on the general's chest, all while screaming at him.
"YOUR FUCKING PILOTS DID THIS. THEY LET THIS TERRORIST WIN. THIS IS YOUR DOING!"

After the brutal attack, the general is half-conscious and bleeding heavily.

"Take this terrorist out and shoot him."

Guards drag the general outside, all while screaming for his life. The President sits back down and makes a call to the second in command of the Air Force, Emanuel Codreanu.

"Mr Codreanu, I'd like to congratulate you on your promotion. Your first job? Kill. The. Rebels."

A single gunshot is heard outside. The screaming ends.

"Commander, you need ready your ships immidiately. Taroma is being targeted by the IFR, and other nations as well. Matore is on their way but they're going to need assistance."

Kyle turns and shouts an order to a nearby officer before turning back to the general.

"The ships will be ready by the end of the day. I imagine you've already sent the V.E.R., knowing you."

"Indeed, they're already on their way. Our troops are already on their way here to board the transports. Time to put your navy to the test."

Faras begins to walk away before the Commander clears his throat.

"One more thing... be careful out there, brother."

The young general flashes a sly smile and walks away, leaving Kyle to his planning.

The sound of a song like "Woolly Bully" by Sam the Sham & The Pharaohs combined with the sizzle of a thin cut of mediocre quality beef on a heavily used barbecue was a recognizable sound in any small MCP outpost nowadays. After the humiliating defeat in Al-Jarraidah, MILCOM decided to reduce the soldiers' discipline so they would be more willing to fight.

A staff sergeant, who took it upon himself to be one of the chefs of the camp, with his leather jacket tied around his waist (But still wearing his helmet and aviators) turns around to a corporal with a friendly smile. "They told us this part of the world was gonna be really different from the IFR. 'Cept for all the beer and beef, they couldn't 'a been more fuckin' right! Haha!" He takes a swig of beer out of a can, then flips one piece of meat with his spatula. "And let's not forget, we didn't pay a cent for this vacation. Hell, it's us that's gettin' paid," the corporal replies.

"So," the staff sergeant asks, taking another sip of beer. "You ready to ship out tomorrow?" "Hell, I don't know. What's combat like?" the corporal asks. "Well, I don't have a buddy who's a Blackbird pilot. Right?" the sergeant tests. "Huh? Oh, right, right," replies the private, understanding the staff sergeant. "Which means I don't know what the beach looks like. I also don't know that there will be machine guns and mortars. Keeping that in mind, I can't immediately suggest to you to find a crater and dig into it for cover," the sergeant tells the corporal. "Thanks, sergeant," the corporal says.

The sergeant turns around, serving some slices of meat on a paper plate to the corporal. "Hey man, the government may say my name is staff sergeant, but it's actually Jimmy. Jimmy Barnes. Yours?" The corporal takes the plate. "Daniel Hawkins. Nice to meet you, sergeant." Hawkins shakes Barnes's hand. Barnes turns back to the barbecue. "HEY!" he yells across the camp. "Who wanted a cheeseburger, again?!"

The populous city of Karachi, in the IFR-controlled Pakistan.

An enormous fleet has arrived from Inceptia, with hundreds of ships unloading men and military equipment.

The designated leader of the mission to protect Taroma from foreign-supported terrorism in "Operation Crossroads," General Jackson, has been informed that Premier Henderson is waiting to speak with him.

"Yes, Premier?"

"Ah, General Jackson. I hear that you have just landed in the IFR's territory."

"That is correct. We are nearly finished unloading our equipment and should be advancing towards the Caspian Sea within hours. The navy's aircraft will be accompanying us and providing aerial support while we cross IFR territory. I do have one question, if I may speak honestly."

"Spit it out, General."

"Where the hell is the damn aerospace force? You told me that we'd have thousands of fighters in the sky above, yet the sky is looking pretty fucking clear today."

The line is silent for a moment.

"General, the aerospace force has suffered some.... delays. However, our analysts expect they shall reach you about the time that you arrive at the Caspian Sea. And General Jackson?"

"Yes, sir?"

"Be careful with what you say, in the future, you wouldn't want to end up like your predecessor."

With that, the line goes dead. Jackson curses in anger and looks out at the enormous military operation beginning around him. He couldn't help but feel sorry for the bastards that were going to have all hell break lose on their soil.

"It is come to my attention that a neighboring state has lost its sovereignty; lost to a new evil and corrupt government, one that destroys the rights of citizens, and hurts international stability. That country is our northern brethren, Taroma. Taroma has a new threatening evil. As a global power, it is our duty to protect the stability of the world.

Since our crisis in the zombie apocalypse two months ago, we have drastically increased our military spending, as we were unprepared in that situation. Now, the time has come to utilize what we have built. Our military has increased thrice-fold, and we are now ready to face this new threat.

I ask for parliament to declare, that since we have a new neighboring threat, that war is now existent between The United Federal State of Krinchreich, and the Taroman Rebels."

Applause; Thatcheur stands down.

The parliament begins voting.

One hour later.

All votes are counted - the Parliament has decided for war. 182 to 18.
