Welcome all of you who've ventured forth into this thread of mine!

Cutting right to the chase now; here's our setting.

The year is 1702 in the world of Callindria; budding young nations seeking to expand into massive empires, to conquer all who would stand in their way take to the sea's and the land to widen their domains.

Colonies abound as these nations vye for supremacy against one another; where will your nation be in this time of prosperity, new horizons and ever increasing borders?

Will you ally yourself with another empire to fight off coalition's and hordes of enemies? How will you handle the countless native uprisings on your frontier? Will you allow old grudges to drag you and other nations into your graves or will this be a new start?

Your nations very future, it's entire destiny lies squarely on your ahoulders. Will you be remembered as the one who forged yourself a place in history? Or shall you be trampled by your foes?


Though this nation is relatively young, I am actually a far older nation whom left for good reason. Though, I was eventually drawn back to this dear site. I am a seasoned role player, and I will be laying down the rules in this first post.


Now, time for the rules

THE RULES

1. No foul language/arguing/bickering amongst players. I will expect all players to act the part of national leaders and settle things diplomatically in the OOC if there's a dispute, which I will happily monitor and regulate so long as it stays civil.

2. The tech level will not be bumped or changed until it's actually time to do so; I've tried giving people extra's in the past, but unfortunately everyone always gets far too greedy. I will not stand to be buffeted with 10 messages a day asking for completely absurd advances; we will change technology level as the 170 year timeline progresses, but in a reasonable and mostly historical fashion.

3. Low fantasy is allowed; those who join up needn't be human, so long as there is no magic and the race you choose isn't 100% beyond all human capability. Keep it reasonable and you shall be dealt with fairly.

4. No Meta-gaming/controlling your opponent's. There is a right way to RP and a very wrong way, one that completely ruins it for everyone else; dictating losses and reacting to information you have 0% way of knowing will not at all be tolerated, and is almost a surefire way to be kicked from this RP.

5. Populations/Production/Resources must all be fairly reasonable. Your nation can't have it all; you're certainly allowed specialties, but say, your nation has a massive population. It stands to reason that a large portion of their time would need to go into feeding their people, meaning they'd be less likely to industrialize. Pop cap is set at 20,000,000 people starting out and the army cap is 150,000 in the begging.

6. RP samples MUST be provided by all players interested in joining up...I'm not going to tolerate poor spelling, bad grammar or lack of punctuation. Also, no short posing either; it just ruins the depth of the RP experience for all the others involved. In the event that you are unable to supply an RP sample you will be asked to write a creative 3-paragraph text about your nation to be evaluated later.

7. All nations are welcome so long as they can meet my criteria.

Indeed. The idea is to build on to the RP you're runnings history here, my old friend. Besides; going from the age of line infantry all the way up should be fairly interesting.

Advancing past unreliable flintlock smoothbore, where you're lucky to hit a target at 100 yards, etc.

GOVERNMENT SYSTEM:(details) The Government of Malachkta is organized into 4 primary bodies, and bound to a constitution.

The Constitutional Charter


To ensure the freedom and equality of all men, as lain down in the very fabric of our society, we draft this document. As a pattern for our governmental bodies, and to lay down the very basis of those rights which we seek to guarantee to our future generations.

1. To guarantee the right to free speech, ones freedom to worship any religion they so choose, to protect the freedom of the press and to protect the freedom to non-violent protest in suit of grievances with the government.

2. The right to privacy against government agents and surveillance, fair and speedy trials by a jury of one's peers whom have been judged to be unbiased, the right to pursue happiness and protect ones property/possessions against the government in a court of law.

3. To guarantee that the government will retain the right to taxes only by the people's consent; meaning that though a citizen is required to pay taxes forth to their government they may petition by popular vote to change the taxation rates.

4. That all votes shall count equally, and that voting is a right guaranteed to all citizens regardless of race/gender beyond the age of 16 years; and that any citizen may hold political office beyond the legal voting age, if elected by the people.

5. That the government shall be fairly regulated by 3 government bodies, to be held in standing by the popular vote of the people, outside of the position of the king; at any time a majority of the people may call for an election if they so ordain that the governing bodies are racked with corruption or inadequate in their standing.

Executive Body: Comprised of the Prime Minister and the High King himself, it is the duty of these two to sign into law any bills coming up from the congressional branch, while also maintaining and appointing cabinet members and leaders of the military.

They may levy new taxes in time of war to support the military and it is their duty to recruit/conscript men as needed to ensure that nations safety. It is also their duty to regulate, institute new training methods, and update technology.

Congressional branch: Made up of 2 representatives from each province, the duties of the 26 members of the consortium is to discuss, create, and modify new/old laws. They are also legally allowed to levy new taxes in time of peace, and allot national budgets, though these powers may be countered by the popular vote of the people, or the judiciary system.

The Judiciary System: Made up of six systems of courts, from the Local district level up the Court of the land, these judges are elected by popular vote every two years at the hands of the people. 13 judges reside on the highest level of the system, one to represent each province.

They rule in the legality of laws, interpret law/constitutional meaning, etc.


NATION CAPITOL/MAJOR CITIES: Capitol Maurencia, Junese, Hargoth, Motyia, Hyren, Net'e, Hertfordshire.

HISTORY: Descended from a long forgotten city state, the nation of Malachkta as it is known on the world stage today was fashioned many, many years ago after a long and hideously bloody civil war.

Afterwards, a high King stepped forward alongside a council of men whom established the new government and revived the broken nation, bringing it back to its glory. It is hazy as to exactly when this happened but the general consensus is sometime between 1152-1200 AD.

The nation has experienced abnormal peace in the times since, normally choosing to work things out diplomatically rather than to fight with their neighbours. Then in 1427 AD, nearly 300 years of peace was shattered.

A territory dispute erupted between Malachtka and the nation of Norcourt, leading to a bloody, drawn out ten year war; by the end, both nations had developed a begrudging respect for the others military, Malachtka finally having proven it's strength on the world stage. A treaty was signed between the two nations, guaranteeing peace and opening trade in an even split of the contested territory.

It is rare in its democracy, and widespread freedoms being so open to all comers, and it is notable for fielding some of the most excellently trained soldiers in the field: it's army is smaller, but as one general was quoted "Each man can fight like ten."

Now in 1702 AD, they look toward the horizon...

AVERAGE CITIZEN DESCRIPTION: The average citizen is between 5'6 and 6 feet tall, with darker skin than most areas of the continent contrasted with striking greyish blue eyes. Most are of a slimmer build, though still fairly muscular, but lacking the denser and more compact body types of some areas. The typical hair color is black or dark brown, and they are known for wearing well fitting three piece clothing ensembles with Victorian era dresses for women: though women in the service/other stations in life may wear what they please.

The average man is between 160-180 pounds, with females averaging between 140-160 pounds. Though they are a slimmer people than many on the continent, they make up for it with endurance and speed; both of which come more easily due to their more slender frames.

Typical tactics involve flanking maneuvers with light infantry and dragoons armed with more accurate rifles while the main body of line infantry engages in quick, sharp engagements before fading rapidly into the battlefield, only to surprise and attack the enemy again.

They have also been trained to handle normal combat situation as well, and are noted as some of the most well disciplined soldiers in all the world, conducting almost daily drills/marches to stay in battle ready condition.

The dragoons, though a lighter alternative to most cavalry units, are still trained to bear their steel in a most lethal manner, and all units are equipped with bayonets/sabers of some sort.

Armed with the Maurencia-Pattern Long Musket, of standard length, crafted from oak and iron in the very city it derives its name from. It is acurrate to 100 yards

The line infantry carry seventy musket balls, enough gunpowder for each shot, 3 days of rations, a canteen, a utility knife/hatchet and a tin cooking pot. Also one pup tent. +Bayonet (though that goes without saying)

Carrying the rifle pictured here, a carbine rifle rather than a smoothbore musket, these men also carry a saber; though outside of this their load out is identical to the line infantry.

Light Infantry: Sporting identical uniforms as the line infantry, these men have long rifles rather than muskets, and an identical load out to the line infantry with the exception of a small cleaning kit to keep their rifle barrels from fouling.

Cannons: Cannons, though not heavily employed, are fairly numerous; crafted with brass barrels to fire 12-18 pound shot, the only calibers supported in the military.




SPECIALTY UNITS: (Full unit description/history/specialty)

The Malachktan Guard Infantry: sporting 5,000 soldiers, they are the most well disciplined soldiers in all the kings military, notable for an unbreakable resolve in battle and an exceptionally fast firing rate with muskets.

They are even more disciplined than the other units of the military, and rarely miss a step in pouring lead into their opponents; they are heavily skilled in hand to hand combat as well.

Their uniforms differ in the addition of gold chains on their jackets and a bright white star medal pinned over the heart.

GOVERNMENT SYSTEM:(details) The Elixian State, uses a traditional Norcourtian Governmental system, by having a senate or parliament in a republic, with Imperialistic values.

HISTORY: Before AD: Norcourtian Aclusian Wars: Norcourtian Tribes unite after Aclusian Empire ravages Norcourt. 1 AD - 900 AD: Norcourtian Armies takeover the country of Blackborn, and capture the island of Angelon. 1300 AD: Norcourtian Chancellor signs the "Libertatem Populi" to grant great civil rights for the people. 1334 AD: Marcus De La Jean sparks a failed attempt to create a new nation of Angelon. 1412 AD: Introduction of Firearms to the Norcourtian Army. 1423 AD: Norcourtian Population reaches 30 million. 1465 - 1701 AD: A long reign of peace is acheived. 1702 AD Now...

AVERAGE CITIZEN DESCRIPTION: The average Norcourtian Citizen, is at least 5'7 to 6'2 Feet tall. With the average weight being 180 to 200 Pounds for men, and 170 to 190 for Women. With the men focusing on height and a medium sense of strength, they are completely capable at melee, but at the same time not as tough as some (Ruskies). The woman are usually quite average, with few being left too skinny, and few too big. Normal hair colors seen around, are light brown, dark brown, black, and some even ginger, and the usual eye color is brown, hazel, or gray. Men usually sport tailcoats, and iverness cloaks with tricorns, bicorns, or top hats, while the women with normal dresses, and often strange yet somewhat not-so-outlandish hair styles, or Bonnets, and Boater hats.

They are equipped with several paper cartridges, held within leather pouch, and a socket bayonet. These firelocks are accurate from 75 to 100 Yards. They also carry an Infantry Sabre, if brought to combat with cavalry and officers.

Modeled after the Hungarians with the same name from the early 1500s, these men are considered deadly and very much intimidating in the battlefield. Though considered "not-so-gentleman" like by some, they have been doing some decent service, and have been considered a key force in the battlefield. They are equipped with Flintlock Pistol or Carbine, Model 1682 Sabre, and sometimes Lance.

NATION AGE: 1057 - 1700

GOVERNMENT SYSTEM: Constitutional Monarchy, power is divided to representatives which are either monarchs themselves or elected officials, these people are then placed in a council. Succession system is Tanistry, Agnatic-Cognatic.

NATION CAPITOL/MAJOR CITIES:
R'lyeh = Capital
Guleim = Major Port City
Black Citadel = Heavily fortified city
Nogg = Major agriculture and port city
Castle White = Military base / City

HISTORY: During pre-history, the Rusks migrated from the south into the modern day territories of the NCSU, a few centuries after that, the Preubens arrived, and both cultures began to mingle and mix. This process would take a few more centuries to complete, eventually the Rusks and Preuben cultures fully combined, and the Ruskland-Preuben culture was born. City-states were founded from fur trading posts and eventually these expanded into nation-states. The Fabler-Castells, who were very numerous, managed to inherit a ton of titles due to strategic marriages. After uniting the dynasty, Castellani IV declared himself emperor Castellani I, this event occurred in 1057 AD. All kingdoms and states were assimilated in 1100 AD. Cthulhism was born around 1200 AD, and was completely adopted into the empire in 1251. After that, multiple large revolts occurred due to the many religious minorities in the empire, though these were crushed once and for all in 1328. A period of calm prevailed after that until 1401, when the Azathothean Heresy occurred, and two entire centuries of revolts and warfare was because of this. It was only in 1601 that this movement was crushed in the political stage, but some heretics still remain to this day. Eventually, we arrive at 1700, where the empire is ruled by Ancry Abel 'the Insane'. As insane as he is, he managed to make multiple important reforms to the empire.

Zealots are the elite forces of the empire. Created in 1261, a mere decade after the full adoption of Cthulhism, these men can either rip enemies in half or kill them at long range. Either way, they are still a force to be reckoned with even with the adoption of muskets.

NATION NAME: The Democratic States of Bevilla

LEADER: President Scott Vichash

DEMONYM: Bevillian

NATION AGE: 212 Years.

GOVERNMENT SYSTEM: Bevilla is split into 3 sections, everyone in those sections gets to vote for the politicians that work the government. The government takes the majority votes from those 3 sections and whoever wins 2 of the 3 sections wins the elections. Those who work in the GH (Government House) decide on what bills they think would be fit for the country. Those bills are passed to the people and if they agree and vote for it the president signs it and it becomes a brand new law. All government officials remain in power for 5 years before a re-election is called for. The government officials currently in office cannot run for those positions again for another 2 years.

NATION CAPITOL/MAJOR CITIES: The capital of Bevilla is Vixtra. Cilana and Bevaya are the only other major cities in the country. The GH is in Cilana.

HISTORY: Around 400 years ago a small city state rose. This city state was a fast growing technological powerhouse. This was due to it sitting directly over massive pockets of oil, gold, and coal. about 150 years after its founding the people found themselves without anymore resources. They were all gone, all depleted. They entered a depression, and with that depression came a want for reform. The people of the city state no longer liked their government, calling them greedy, resource-hogging, monsters. They went into total anarchy for about 50 years before the people completely destroyed their home. A small group of about 100 people formed a new country, one run by democracy, they called it Bevilla.

AVERAGE CITIZEN DESCRIPTION: Most males are 5'5 while females are 5'3. Blonde and red hair are completely non-existent, and instead dark-brown and black hair are common. Most citizens have white skin, with some having a small tan color. Dresses aren't manufactured in Bevilla and are too expensive to import. Instand, women typically wear large shirts. Men usually where dark clothing with breeches.

CULTURE: Most people in Bevilla are either Catholic or Protestant. There aren't any special holidays in Bevilla besides Easter and Christmas. Most people are friendly and will usually greet total strangers, they do not however, like foreigners from countries that their government doesn't trust.

SOCIETAL ROLES: Women are expected to do the same work as Men, and children are to be raised to take care of themselves by a young age.

PRIMARY PRODUCTIONS: Beef, Wood, Dye

GOVERNMENT SYSTEM: The Kingdom is ruled by an Absolute Monarch with an iron fist. He holds all power over every issue which may crop up, as will as control over the army, treasury, and nearly everything else except the Church- which does hold a considerable sway over the government due to the large religious population and the monetary power of the Church.

NATION CAPITOL/MAJOR CITIES: Brühenburg is the capital. Other major cities include Kronlein(a port city), Altewitz, and Cuxförde

HISTORY: The Kingdom of Brühenburg was formed in the year 1226, when a number of small, Germanic feudal states in the region were united by conquest. This was known as the Unification War, fought between Duchy of Brühenburg and various smaller states(namely the Counties of Altewitz and Cuxförde and the Barony of Kronlein). The Brühenburgers were assured victory by their confident and able leader, Duke Friedrich I. After defeating the smaller armies of all of the other states in the region Friedrich crowned himself king of the new Kingdom of Brühenburg. Thus a budding power was born, with access to the central sea and a large population. Over the next few centuries various, forgettable kings made small additions to the Kingdom, as well as building a reputation of military prowess among the local states. In particular the Kingdom took advantage of the innovation of gunpowder, being among the first to use entire units armed with primitive firearms. As the Kingdom enters the 18th century it falls under an ambitious ruler, who happens to have inherited a large and efficient army...

AVERAGE CITIZEN DESCRIPTION: The average Brühenburger- especially in the metropolitan areas like Brühenburg or Altewitz- is pompous, entitled, and somewhat foppish. The upper classes have reams and reams of etiquette and unspoken rules, and care in particular for their appearances. Outside these major cities men are more hardy, being farmers and expected to bring in a large enough crop to maintain the status quo. These men make up the core of the army.

CULTURE: The society is very Germanic in appearance, enjoying beer, wurst, and heavy meals as much as anyone else of the race. Holidays include Founding Day(the day when King Friedrich was crowned) and a monthlong celebration of Oktoberfest.

SOCIETAL ROLES: Women are regulated to household duties, expected to bear children for their husbands. Females who have a very high social status are permitted more rights than commoners of the same gender, though they are still not the equals of men. Men are expected to be, well, manly. To plow the fields or fight in the wars, whatever is applicable, and to bring their family names glory and honor.

PRIMARY PRODUCTIONS: The Kingdom's primary resources include, timber, secured from vast neighboring forests, and rich ores, mined from the steep mountains to the North.

INDUSTRIALIZED: Yes.

IMPORTS: As the population swells the demand for food increases, and the Kingdom is beginning to rely more and more on foreign imports of foodstuffs. Another import is gunpowder, which is direly needed to fuel the army but not produced in great quantity locally.

POPULATION: 20,000,000

GEOGRAPHY: A large central plain dominates the center of the country, and is home to the capital and Kronlein. The North is home to vast pine forests, while in the North-West lies a huge mountain range.BTW, I'm planning on having control of the land labeled as Turmany(?) It's north of the central sea, labeled as Sea of Catora(?)

MILITARY STATISTICS: The Royal Army of Brühenburg is renowned through the Continent as one of the most potent fighting forces to exist, combining modern innovations with an ancient history of military prowess. While many Brühenburger officers are of noble heritage this is not a qualification necessary to attain such a post. Generals are selected purely because of their military skill and personal achievements, and not because of their wealth or power. Brühenburg's ground troops are also regarded with respect and fear. Particularly the elite units, such as the Grenadiers and Hussars, are feared because of their suicidally brave tendencies, tremendous strength and height, and their personal courage and valor on the battlefield. In addition, a national fleet was created in the late 1600s, to protect Brühenburger trade and policy their waters, although it is underfunded and consists only of a few outdated sloops.
The army consists of 300,000 soldiers- with a total of a million more listed as "reserves". Of these 270,000 are infantrymen and the remainder are cavalrymen. The vast majority of infantry wield muskets, although a few formations of pikes still exist to combat cavalry. In contrast most of the cavalry are armed with sabers, or in the case of the hussars, lances. Only a few "experimental" cavalry regiments are outfitted with firearms. In addition the King commands many powerful batteries of artillery. Brühenburger smithies are known as the pioneers of the cannon, having sought to create bigger and heavier guns since the invention was brought to the Kingdom several centuries back. Now massive, nearly immobile artillery pieces lay at the King's fingertips- though they are expensive to maintain, difficult to fire, and as mentioned earlier, almost impossible to relocate. The Brühenburger Navy is almost completely ignored, consisting of a few dozen lightly armed brigs, galleys and sloops, and laughable by any power with even a sixth-rate.

SPECIALTY UNITS: A few special units exist, all with long histories, some dating back to the Unification War and beyond. Chief among them are the Grenadiers, a handful of brigades consisting only of the tallest, burliest, manliest men in the army, and intended to cow any enemy. Their name is confusing, as they rarely use their titular weapon. Instead Grenadiers are used primarily as shock troops, committed during the climax of the battle to turn the tide. The Grenadiers can trace their origin to the very inception of Brühenburg itself, when they served as the personal guard of the Dukes of that city.

Another ancient unit are the Hussars, cavalryman feared across the continent for their ferocity. While in a heated melee the Hussars may falter, they are best used to smash into the exposed flank or rear of any enemy with their razor-sharp lances and bring about a mass route or slaughter. The renowned skirmishers originated as the light troops of the Barony of Kronlein, and actually fought against the Brühenburgers. Now they are an integral part of the Kingdom's army.

SOCIAL UNREST: The feuds experienced immediately after the Unification War died away long ago, leading to a unified Brühenburg which is held by a single, universally German people.

NATION AGE: 756 years

GOVERNMENT SYSTEM: So, yeah. Here it is. There are many smaller states inside Rannoria, which basically govern themselves. In this universe, Rannoria is an elective monarchy. Once a previous grand dies, another one takes it's place. This one is one of the maestosos from a smaller state. When they are elected, they rule the nation until their time comes. Then another one comes. Inside each state, it's just a regular old monarchy. There are also republic states, but they are deemed ineligible to send a maestoso to become the new grand. Though most states do their own thing, major laws and war along with other events usually involves the entire nation or has the final say from the grand.

In Rannoria, there is also the religious aspect. In this Rannoria, religion rules alongside with the grand. The Strum (basically the pope for my religion, Sitarism) despite being cultural and traditional above everything, is still well-respected and so is Sitarism. Sitarism is strong in Rannoria, and it has been strong for many years running now. So, despite the strum having no say in anything, Sitarism comes into affect when laws are passed.

NATION CAPITOL/MAJOR CITIES: Capital - Rannkradle, Important Cities - Heden, Rannzen, Manchetrostad

HISTORY: In 946 AD, Rannoria was founded. Rannoria was forged from the crucible of war. After a scarring 12 year war against their former rulers, Rannoria broke free from Resolia. Rannoria held the south, Resolia held the north. For a while, all was at peace. Kings went by and nothing really changed, until in 1001 AD, Resolia attacked. Claiming reconquest as their Casus Belli, Rannoria fought against them. Rannoria was pushed back. The old capital, Hoeij, has fallen to Resolia, and the only last two strong Rannorian bastions stood. The cities of Heden and Manchetrostad. Resolia attacked with all their forces, unleashing wrath. Their military campaign was a disaster. Heden was a military fort, and thus was strong on it's own. Manchetrostad was Rannoria's industrial heart, and thus weapons were manufactured left and right. Troops managed to cut the Resolians off from their homeland, and the attacking forces were cut down. Rannoria retook their lands, and walked into Resolia. The only Resolian city that welcomed them was Cradle. Soon to be known as Rannkradle.

After the Resolian Civil War, the Rannorian's lived in peace. But of course, there was still conflict. Such as the crusades in 1298 AD against the heretics in other provinces, or the great conquests of Balthazar Eden II in 1376 AD, whose death only lead to the fall of Rannoria's great empire, and into the age of the republic. Governments were turned over. Monarchies, theocracies, republics, everything. At one point, Rannoria entered anarchy, but the Rannorian spirit lived on, and yet again they survived another day. But now, in 1702 AD, Rannoria's power and luck is waning. Traditions are falling, industrialization is rising. The only thing keeping Rannoria from strength is the government itself.

It's the twilight of the nation.

AVERAGE CITIZEN DESCRIPTION: Not really a big question. The denizens of Rannoria are diverse, and there is no "average citizen." Though the Rannorian populace is predominantly white, and are a bit short.

CULTURE: Predominantly Sitarist, Dutch-Germanic culture, etc.

SOCIETAL ROLES: Men and women live in equality, and there is not much discrimination. Most people don't really mind who is what, and so this question never really comes across.

PRIMARY PRODUCTIONS: Metals, stone

INDUSTRIALIZED: Partially. Tradition is highly valued in Rannoria, and thus the majority of the maestosos vote that the nation doesn't enter a full industrial revolution.

IMPORTS: Herbs, cotton

POPULATION: 17,500,000

GEOGRAPHY: Mostly, the nation is filled with mountains and plains. That is all to be said.

Nova Capile, I'm gonna need you to seriously bring down the military numbers; I'm setting a cap at 300,000 for the time being, and you're about double that :/ You also violated the starting population limit of 20 million.
