Otherkin

Otherkin... Individuals who don't identify as human beings, but as animals, fictional characters, mythological creatures, etc...

Quite frankly, I didn't even realize this was a thing until recently. I can't seem to take the movement seriously, because at the end of the day, everyone is human, but those are just my thoughts.

Any opinions on the subject of Otherkin? Are there any NS'ers out their who identify as something other than human, or have you met an individual like this?

They're not a "movement". They are, at best, an online community.

As for my opinions, there is no evidence that it is possible for them to be something other than human. I don't hold any real hostile feelings towards them, and I oppose harassing them.

This is not a "made up" concern. It's really concerning.

Why is this even a thing? Why is this okay for people to do nowadays? I'm pretty fucking sure that there are medical studies on this thing and all that good stuff, but why is this okay now? Personally, I really do not have problem with it or people acting this way. What I do have a problem with is, is that people trying to tell me what to call them and what "pronouns" to use. If I refer to you as a certain pronoun, don't take it so personally, just calmly and kindly ask me to call you by a certain thing. Emphasis on ask. I may be taken aback, but I will gladly do so, IF you do so in a simple, respectful manner.

Flipping the fuck out about it doesn't solve the issue, it just makes me think of you lesser and less likely to treat you respectfully.

That's because it is. It's a relatively small portion of the internet where people pretend to be something they aren't. Hell, that could describe most of the internet in one capacity or another.

Frankly, I have my doubts that a lot of these people legitimately believe themselves to be animals, and even if they did, that's their personal matter.

Does it make me cringe? Oh, of course. Cringe is the natural response to that.

Even still, though, most of these people do their own thing on their own sites, and nine times out of ten the only reason you'll know they exist is when a prominent e-celeb does a video on the tubes making fun of them.
