Bill Weld: 'Hillary Clinton is the most qualified candidate'

Libertarian vice presidential hopeful Bill Weld said Friday that he's "not sure anybody is more qualified than Hillary Clinton to be president of the United States," the latest misstep in what's been a painful week for the third-party ticket.
Weld's praise of the Democratic presidential nominee was made in an interview with MSNBC's Chuck Todd. He quickly added: "I mean, that's not the end of the inquiry, though. We were two-term governors and I think Gary is very, very solid. At this point, we overlapped as governors and I thought highly of him back when we served together, but having spent the last several months (together), I don't just like the guy, I love the guy. I think he is very solid and deep."

Weld, a former Massachusetts governor, said he thought Republican nominee Donald Trump was "out of control" at Monday's debate, whereas he felt Clinton did "a great job."

Weld also spoke in defense of his running mate, Gary Johnson, after a gaffe earlier this week in which he couldn't come up with the name of any foreign leader during an MSNBC town hall. Weld said Johnson was not good at "pop quiz" moments and went on to say the gaffe didn't disqualify Johnson for the presidency.

I don't know about Hillary Clinton being the most qualified, but she is up there because of her 30+ years within US politics.

It is a fact however, that Donald Trump is the most unqualified candidate to ever run. Not just my opinion but objectively so on whichever metric there is. He is a con artist and a disgrace. Grammatically, the phrase "not sure anybody is more qualified" shouldn't be taken in a literal context, just as you have done. It's a bid of bad wording, especially when out of context can be manipulated in so many different ways as the media has done. But the grammatical construct "not sure" here is used in a way that doesn't necessarily express uncertainty, (I am literally not sure about what it would be called in it's grammatical usage) but merely to insinuate the strength of his argument. If I were to say, as a country bumpkin would, "there ain't nobody stronger than Paul," I am not literally insinuating that there is actually nobody stronger than Paul, just that Paul is very strong.

On the face of it, DT is just as qualified, as he has pretty much done the same thing for his thirty odd year career.

There are three things here that really irk me. HRC or DT for president, and this elitist anti-republican (system, not party) view of who should be allowed in the hallowed halls of power.

The technocrats need to wake up and smell middle America, because half the nation right now believes DC is not representative of them and/or is basically an illegitimate government.

Right or wrong, that simmering sentiment is a powder keg ignored by the inside-the-beltway aristocracy at their own peril.
