A new idea for public transit

Postby The Derpy Democratic Republic Of Herp » Thu Sep 29, 2016 8:04 am

Ok, I thought of a new way of public transit thats
    1.Free to ride
    2.Is impervious to terrorist attacks
    3.Green
    4.Awesome
5.Is safer then driving a car

I did this in my NS nation and most people thought it was a good idea.

The idea is:

Big air powered cannons that will blast you from place to place via cannons and safety nets. Safety nets get replaced daily.

What do you guys think about this actually being a real world?

A good way to smash into the ground, be minced into a fine paste, and die.

It could be used as a terrorist weapon, rather than being the target of it.

no offense.

Ah the circus mode of transport. A classic idea.

Better hope the person aiming the cannon gets the angle right or you will be such a surprised amount of strawberry jam on the pavement.

You should really quit listening to LG.

Seriously: do you have any idea of the acceleration needed to reach a muzzle speed enough for the mishap to travel a significant distance?

And how many safety nets are we talking about replacing daily? The labor and new net cost would be ridiculous.

Your sort of asssuming that every human is a identical projectile to every other human and that it would be completely safe from all outside influences, like, well, the wind for one.

Unless the cannons where fixed to only fire to one safety net only and you can't move the cannon.

But safety nets and cars kill a lot.

Great Nepal wrote:...what happens when one person lands and another person lands on top of them...

Can't happen, sensors detect when one person is in a safety net and won't let the cannon fire again until that person is gone.

To costly as well, and couldn't be operated in big cities. Also, the nets would need to be massive if you don't want the wind to affect your flight, so occupies to much space.

No two cannons, both fire simultaneously - one with wind direction towards net land first then second person who's already in air lands on top.

Calibration for a person's weight could easily be implemented.

Think of the tourist dollars! People would come into a country just for this and stay for the food and shoping!

No, one cannon would be permanently aimed at one net.

Saw this in Seiken Densetsu 3, except it used gunpowder, and it worked out just fine. I don't see how something that worked in a thirty-year-old video game would fail in real life.

A zipline transport systems seems much safer than this. You know, NS and the real world are different. In NS, your citizens can apparently survive just about anything, while in therp real world, you will die.

To travel from non central London to central London, you'd need 100 nets around central London...
