Do they ring on other occasions?
How do church bells ring?
Are there any laws regarding the ringing of bells?
How common is the ringing of church bells?

Do church bells exist in YN? Yes; every church has at least one bell and most have more than two.

Do they ring the time? A typically medium sized village's church's tenor bell will typically ring the hours throughout the day and night. Some will also chime the half-hour and others every fifteen minutes.
Do they ring on other occasions? Church bells often ring changes at weddings, before church services and special occasions such as the King's Birthday. They usually toll when people die and at funerals.
How do church bells ring? Changes are rung full-circle. Chimes and tolls are sounded usually through hammers connected to ropes or mechanical contraptions.
Are there any laws regarding the ringing of bells? Ecclesiastical law dictates when church bells can be chimed or tolled, and it is a crime to misuse church bells or to not follow the direction of the incumbent-in-charge. There is a legal right of churches to ring bells in the proceed the liturgical rite and custom of the Church of Nortend, such as to call people to church, for weddings or funerals. There is no right to chime the time however or practise change ringing, although it can be argued that practising would be a form of facilitating the customs of the church. Noise laws expressly exclude the sound of church bells.
How common is the ringing of church bells? It is ubiquitous throughout Nortend. Every parish rings a bell at least thrice a week for Sunday services and the Ave Maria, which is recited at 6·00, noon and 18·00.

Do they ring the time? yes
Do they ring on other occasions? at times of emergency, at times of Azen holidays and at times of war, both at the start and end of war
How do church bells ring? They ring seven times often. But if not, they ring only once or ten times. Once means it is a good sign. Ten means something is wrong.
Are there any laws regarding the ringing of bells? No, but Azenyanistan depends on some of the laws of the Union of Autocratic Empires.
How common is the ringing of church bells? Very common. Some say that for as long as bells are rung and heard, the Azens know that life is well, all is well and that everything is fine

Do church bells exist in YN? Yes.

Do they ring the time? Yes, a lot of churches are converted to secular use, but even in that case the bells still tell the people what time it is. The larger churches will chime also the quarters, but most churches only chime the hours and the half-hours.
Do they ring on other occasions? Only in those churches that are still used as such, are the bells rung to call people to prayer. In churches converted to secular use, they are rung to celebrate the victories of the Soviet Army and in remembrance of the fallen on the Commemoration of the Great Patriotic War.
How do church bells ring? It depends on what church we are talking about. Catholic churches mostly use swinging bells, while the Orthodox use fixed bells.
Are there any laws regarding the ringing of bells? The Soviet government has limited the time a church bell may be rung to 5 minutes per day. But the monks and nuns in the monasteries and the priests in the greater churches and cathedrals have been quite inventive; they start with one bell, and when that bell has rung its 5 minutes for that day, they switch to the next bell. So the larger the peal of bells a church has, the longer it can ring bells. The government hasn't responded yet to this rebellious behaviour...
How common is the ringing of church bells? The Catholics ring their bells daily, sometimes even several times a day, and the Orthodox do also ring them quite frequently. But in churches that have been converted to secular use, the bells are only rung twice or thrice a year, on the occasions I outlined above.

Do church bells exist in YN? Not in churches. Usually they are separate towers, and not part of churches. When the British established that we were their colony, they gave us the glory of English-style church bell ringing. Once we became independent, we were like "Fuck it let's keep it this shit is fun"

Do they ring the time? Clock towers do, but there are bell towers purely for English-style church bell ringing.
Do they ring on other occasions? Weddings, funerals, baptisms, leisure.
How do church bells ring? In a tower, with a rope, y'know, like this:
Image
Are there any laws regarding the ringing of bells? Yes, actually. The law states church bell ringing (not quite church bell ringing because most bell towers are just the tower and not the church, but it's called that so we'll call it that) as an official part of Huswyaen culture, and therefore must be preserved and encouraged.
How common is the ringing of church bells? By people? Incredibly common. 70% of the population do it. If you get to ring at St. James' Anglican Cathedral in the district of Haluky in Lacrott City, you must be a talented one because only the best of the best ring there. Also, there are about 700,000 towers in Huswyae for church bell ringing, so basically everywhere is within hearing distance of one.

We are Huswyae. We are an advanced nation and one of the most developed an successful in existence. But don't let this fool you, we are dodgier than we look. Corporations are allowed to veto laws they do not support. Half of our politicians are members of anonymous. Tell us we aren't corrupt!
We are libertarian, right-wing, Fiscally conservative, and capitalist. The current ruling party is Libertarian Capita, therefore Huswyae does represent my political beliefs! Proud Right-Libertarian nation!
It is pronounced Huss-wye.

Do church bells exist in YN? Yes. Every major city has at least one church with a bell, or more properly, carillon. It's rare to have a church with just a single bell (or less than twenty-three in the bell tower). They are more popular among the Frenequestan Catholics' and the Progressive Methodists' churches than other denominations' buildings, however.

Do they ring the time? Yes, many ring the hour, but usually no more.

Do they ring on other occasions? Yes. Carillon concerts are surprisingly popular in Frenequesta, with the church usually hosting one every month. (Some universities also have carillons, and there are some serious rivalries between a church and the university in a given area for the best bells, the best carillonist etc.) Listening is free (it's hard to confine a loud bunch of bells in a room as in a normal concert setting, and they can't force passers-by to pay just because they are in the area), but many charge a small amount for the program. Otherwise, they rarely play for other occasions.

How do church bells ring? As most bells are carillons, the bells are fixed in place and do not swing, relying on internal levels for the clapper to strike the bell. If it's just chiming in the time, the bells ring in a completely mechanical fashion, monitored by a computer system for precision. If there is a concert, a live person plays on a keyboard, unless the music as written makes it a physical impossibility for a person to play it, in which case a specialized robot operates the keys.

Are there any laws regarding the ringing of bells? Many state laws prohibit the public use of a specialized robot to play a carillon piece that is "simple" enough for a human (or other organic being, although some courts have ruled that androids are also covered by these laws, e.g. Daughtcombe v. Suter, 55 S.F. 280 (2221)) to play (excluding regular time-keeping), roughly tracking the "physical impossibility" tradition mentioned above. Three states (La Vitabreve, Kittgenstein, and New Herbia) provide extract protection for organic carillon players, requiring persons who pay a person to play a carillon at concerts to provide for at least some "simple" pieces in their concert programs. Both of these laws are being challenged in the courts on free speech grounds, e.g. St. Ulrich's Catholic Church v. Grand, 200 L.V. 452 (2224), cert. granted [2225] 1 F. 1011.

In addition, church bells are subject to noise pollution laws and regulations and nuisance actions like everything else.

How common is the ringing of church bells? Common, with all of the concerts and ringing in the hours.

Do they ring the time? Because time isn't real, they ring all the time. Their ringing is the only warning they give of their arrival.
Do they ring on other occasions? They always ring, their dreadful ring.
How do church bells ring? We cannot fathom their methods, or their intent. All we know is their wake. Such a terrible wake...
Are there any laws regarding the ringing of bells? We cannot stop them, no matter what be do.

Do church bells exist in YN? Yes, ubitquously. Almost every Christian church has one, and many non-Christian churches and temples do as well.

Do they ring the time? No.

Do they ring on other occasions? Church bells ring at funerals, when the Emergency Alert Broadcast is being alerted, at midnight on New Years' Eve, at high noon on Easter, if the militias are ever summoned, and when the police need assistance capturing someone (hue and cry). They also function as air raid sirens. On Sundays, churches ring when their doors open, they ring agian when Sunday School ends (if applicable), they ring right before the morning sermon begins, and then they ring in the evening right before the evening service begins. On Wednesdays, they ring once when Wednesday events begin. Catholic Churches uniquely use the bells for excommunication ("bell, book, and candle") if need be. The bells are rung in different ways depending on their use. The rule of thumb is that the faster the bell rings, the more urgent it is (excluding holidays).

How do church bells ring? Church bells are usually hoisted in the steeples of the church and rung by ropes or chains. Most churches of all denominations have one bell, but the older ones- especially Catholic and Orthodox churches -have multiple bells. However, many smaller churches have bells on a brick or concrete pedestal with a crank that can ring them. Others have hammers to ring them. In certain circumstances, steeple bells will be rung by humans and/or mushrooms with hammers in rapid succession. (This is normally done on for air raid, weather, and Emergency Broadcast purposes.)

Are there any laws regarding the ringing of bells? No. This is considered an absolute right of all organized religions and is exempt from all noise laws without exception.

How common is the ringing of church bells? Every town has multiple bells, and every rural area has at least one. With the exceptions of the remotest parts of the country, it is impossible to not hear a bell in the distance.

Do they ring on other occasions? Yes. Announcing the death of a High King/Queen, announcing the anointment of a High King/Queen, ring after a marriage ceremony is completed, during the funeral of an important individual
How do church bells ring? Older churches use a classic bell ringer who manually rings the bells by pulling on a rope or cable that swings the bell one way and leaves gravity and physics to do the rest. More modern churches use mechanical gears to swing the bell
Are there any laws regarding the ringing of bells? None

Do church bells exist in YN?
Yes, church bells do exist in Afaenvia. They are usually found in monasteries, churches, chapels and cathedrals across the nation.

Do they ring the time?
No, church bells do not ring out the time in Afaenvia. They are only rung in their immediate communities, parishes or dioceses on religious occasions as well as to call their faithful to a funeral or weekly Sunday activities.

Do they ring on other occasions?
They are also used to ring during nationwide emergencies or announcements, natural disasters, epidemics or war.

How do church bells ring?
Church bells found in cathedrals, churches, chapels or monasteries build before the 1960s come in different shapes and sizes and are rung using a manually operated rope-pulling mechanism. The sounds are usually monosyllabic and can be heard up to 3km away. Modern church bells are often battery or switch operated and are fixed to ring at certain times. These semi-automatic bells usually play a short 2 minute recording of the old bells.

Are there any laws regarding the ringing of bells?
The ringing of church bells falls under the Afaenvian PRAYER CALLS ACT, 1951, which states that all religious prayers are subjected to the following guidelines:
[1] All religious calls are only to be made during the specified times required by their religious codes,
[2] Exception being in times of war, national emergencies and announcements, natural disasters, epidemics, or national festivities.
[3] All religious calls are allowed to be broadcasted externally to the surrounding communities up to a distance of 3km, wherein the community is of the faith adhering to the place of worship, ie. Church broadcasting to majority Christian community, Mosque to majority Muslim community etc etc.
[4] All religious calls that do not conform to point 3 are restricted to broadcast within 1km of their immediate vicinity only.
[5] All religious calls should exercise discretion to noise pollution laws, failure of which consequences will be meted by the respective courts of justice.

How common is the ringing of church bells?
Very common.

Do church bells exist in YN? Yes, especially in older churches.

Do they ring the time? Many of them do. One ring for 1 o'clock, two rings for 2 o'clock, 3 rings for 3 o'clock, and so on.
Do they ring on other occasions? Call to prayer
How do church bells ring? They are pulled by a rope and in some rare cases, even struck by a hammer.
Are there any laws regarding the ringing of bells? Misuse can lead to fines, and churches in suburban areas cannot use bells typically.
How common is the ringing of church bells? More common in older churches, especially Catholic churches.
