Laments of the Past [OOC/2 slots open]

Postby Pacific Union of Cascadia » Tue Sep 20, 2016 7:29 pm

Civilizations dot the galaxy, largely invisible to each other, and have been for centuries. No contact has been made except for the faded out, unintelligible radio signal or maybe a burnt out probe from the early days of the specific civilization. But no more, across the Galaxy, these societies have created faster and faster methods of transportation, first, sub light speeds, then the speed of light. And after much testing faster then light itself, a barrier once thought impossible. This allows societies to extend their reach and even contact others. But this will prove a testament to these Civilizations. This kind of technology will bring challenges more difficult then ever faced. May old ways be parted with, and bring a era of peaceful contact and exploration of galaxies, or shall it bring the end of such Civilizations, ravaging the galaxy with conflict. Only time, and time itself will prove the strength of these civilizations.

This is the OOC, and this post will be edited accordingly to all changes.

ANNEXATIONS

Code: Select all
Peaceful Annexations: You have to hold a conference with the country you are annexing and give realistic reasons why they should join you, it may fail depending on the significance of the country. This is very hard to do, and should only be done to nations which have the same type of culture.

War Annexations: Send a realistic amount of troops, may fail depending on the significance of the country. You don't take the whole country, you have to take regions. Just google the regions of the country you are trying to invade, you can take several provinces at once for weak countries. TAKING THE CAPITAL DOESN'T MEAN YOU'VE TAKEN THE COUNTRY. You have to take most of the economically or territoriality significant parts of the country you are fighting for them to surrender.

Annexations shouldn't be unrealistic. Obviously, annexing nation after nation will sour your reputation in the international community. Also, there is a cultural section based on annexations (beneath IE)

Please keep these realistic for the time period.

INTERNATIONAL ENTITY
The international entity is an unbiased person who does not control a nation, but works on behalf of uncontrolled nations. In Modern Warfare, Germany could say "Sicily wants to join Germany". This is way too overpowered and makes the player control more then just their nation. Terrorist attacks (Or something like a trade embargo) are also controlled by the IE, one can be launched on a nation that has a very sour international reputation. You can TG the IE and request something like a terrorist attack, but it will only be put into place if the recipient has a bad reputation.

CULTURAL
Another part of annexation is the cultural differences between nations. Some nations (such as China and Vietnam) are grouped under the same while Japan and South Korea are different enough to be classed as different cultures. The more cultures you absorb, the more authoritarian your government has to be to hold on to it.

I am the OP of this thread, and rules for getting booted go like this: You get 3 warnings of three separate instances reported by players, fourth report and you are either booted or me and you have a nice chat

The Map will be Created tomorrow
Thank you for reading, and i hope you have a good time

RP Nation Name: Dominion of Arkona
Type of Government - Stratocracy
Capital City/Planet: Arkona
Location in the Milky Way: Perseus Arm
Population - 300 Billion
Military Might - 79,381,562,230 Active Personnel, 27,346,890,020 Reserves[Calculated to be slightly larger than the military/civilian population ratio in the U.S. so I'm not just pulling this out of my ass]
Head of State - Grand Marshal Aleksandar Markov
Image

History - WIP and subject to change.
Arkona was once a frontier Human colony, founded mostly by those of Eastern and Northern European descent during the fledgling days of interstellar travel. Over time it began to grow to be a prosperous, and of decent size, cities beginning to form. However, it was at this point that its existence became known to an alien race inhabiting the region, known as the Veritorex. An warlike, insectoid race, their fleet moved on Arkona and destroyed all the spacecraft they found in orbit, their soldiers were dropped into the major cities, and the people of Arkona were forced into the chains of slavery.

For one-hundred-and-twenty-six years, the Arkontines were oppressed and treated as animals of labour, to be bred, worked, and then put down as the Veritorex saw fit. Until that fateful day, after decades of planning, that day when Dragan Petrescu and Adrianov the Hammer began the Grand Revolution by storming the Veritorex armoury in Surmagrad, seizing the weapons caches therein and beginning to arm the public face of the rebellion. In reality, insurgents had been conducting terror attacks and the occasional uprising for decades, and the campaign had only just picked up momentum.

For the next twenty eight years a grueling struggle would be fought over control of Arkona, and eventually the occupiers were driven off the world. Dragan Petrescu did not live to see this victory, having been killed in an orbital strike only four years prior. However, Adrianov had survived, and took up the mantle of Grand Marshal of Arkona, and began to rebuild the planet and construct a new army to bring the fight to their former slavemasters.

In that time, the decree was given that all the remaining Veritorex on Arkona were to be punished for their crimes, and a campaign of extermination would begin. Further, all constructs of alien origin were to be demolished and replaced with new ones built in the style of the original Arkontine cities, and all tools and technology created by the enslavers were to be gradually phased out and destroyed. This campaign was and still is referred to by those of the Dominion as "Resetting the Clock".

After a number of decades, the First Expeditionary Fleet of Arkona was constructed, and a new fledgling military had been built up to support in the Invasion of the Veritorex Homeworld, Hexaritae. By then, the Grand Marshal of Arkona was a man named Jarkko Männik, and he took command of the capital ship of the Fleet, a vessel by the name of Havelka.

And so it was that they departed and began their journey to Hexaritae. Arriving in orbit over the world, they engaged and destroyed the Veritorex fleet, taking them completely by surprise and acting swiftly. Though possessing a handful of strong vessels, the majority of the fleet was somewhat undergunned and some were also underarmoured by conventional standards, the fleet was able to still attain an extremely costly victory due to their surprise appearance, the cunning of the Marshal, and the fact that much of the Veritorex Fleet was destroyed over Arkona decades ago, and their replacements were still being prepared for use[Being held to a much higher standard than the Arkontine fleet]. Still, around 60% of the Arkontine Fleet was destroyed, leaving very few to deploy the troops.

What awaited the men upon being dropped into orbit was a hellscape of anti air, brutal close quarters combat, and a fight against a ruthless, innumerable horde of aliens. Casualties skyrocketed, and only a handful of those who had survived the landing made it out alive. Further, attempts at orbital bombardment failed due to the destruction of most of the fleet and heavy orbital defence gun fire.

Overall, the First War for Hexaritae was a complete failure, from which it took decades to recover. For his foolishness in undertaking the campaign before the Arkontine Military was prepared, Männik was ousted from his position of Grand Marshal in a coup d'etat and was executed.

Following this, efforts by the new High Command to rebuild the military once again, and to build the Arkontine Fleet stronger before conducting another attempt on Hexaritae. By now much of Arkona itself had been rebuilt, but there was still much work to do in modernizing and cutting off the last ties to alien technology, difficult to do in the still-isolated state of the region. During this time, the decision was made to begin colonies on neighbouring worlds and to begin to expand the dominion. It was concluded that it would be best to keep the population of each world at a level they could sustain for their size, and as such colonization efforts would begin whenever a planet became overpopulated. Several planets were selected, and colony ships were sent out to begin terraforming the worlds to begin their assigned tasks. For, you see, these new worlds would be planned out to accomplish one particular task as their primary goal, be it agriculture, manufacturing, etc. This was done so each planet could put out enough supplies to sustain the entire population of the Dominion while new planets could be established, but it was noted that this strategy had certain drawbacks, and as such certain segments of each of the task-oriented planets would be put to accomplishing just enough of another task as to be able to sustain itself for a period of time in isolation.

Eventually, it now being over a century since the Storming of the Armoury, the campaign again began to purge the aliens from the region. The Arkontine Fleet warped towards enemy space under command of Grand Marshal Vladimir Kostanov. This time, their foe had taken greater preparations for their arrival, establishing more Orbital Defence Stations and now with a fully prepared fleet. The Second War for Hexaritae had begun.

Utilizing new technologies that Arkontine traders had acquired and with a full-strength fleet, the Arkontine Fleet was able to engage that of the Veritorex with tactical parity, their enemy relying largely on their numeric superiority to cause significant damage. Again, the victory was costly, but not all had been lost. While the battle had been hard and casualties were high, much of the fleet survived, and it was decided that the only troops that would be deployed to the enemy planet would be special forces units, who would be dropped near enemy Orbital Defence Stations and would be tasked with knocking them out. The success of these operations varied, but it was enough to begin the Glassing of the planet from orbit, with a number of vessels being destroyed by orbital defence fire.

In the glassing, nothing was spared. The entire planet was burned and bombarded from orbit, with concentrated fire on the major Hives on the world. After some time had passed from the bombing, the Arkontine Army was deployed to begin cleanup and to purge the remnants of the hives of whatever survivors they still possessed.

After this victory, the Arkontine Fleet withdrew back to Arkona, where they received a Hero's Welcome. Grand ceremonies were held, statues erected, and the day the last bomb was dropped on Hexaritae was commemorated as Victory Day[January 8th], which became a national holiday. With the threat of the alien menace now destroyed for good, the Dominion could now consider the prospect of further consolidating its hold on its new planets, developing them, and colonizing more.

[Ending Paragraph is a WIP]
That was long ago, and now after this time of peace and preparation, the Dominion now contains twenty-three planets, with each having roughly ten billion people on them, some more others less. Arkona now stands ready to face the future, focusing primarily on military pursuits, and now seeks to unite mankind under the cause of unity, if not the banner of Arkona itself.

Alright, so I hope this RP would be mostly involved with the first contacts with other civilizations, set in the mid-22nd century where the first really high speed and more powerful starships rise up from the separate civilizations, like Warp-5 speed and if this goes on maybe faster. There would be early energy weapons , and either some heavy hulls or early shielding for defenses, since it is early FT after all.
This provides many possibilities to what could happen, such as interstellar combat or a potential federation-type from star trek kinda thing coming out of it. This pretty much means that it would require much individual RP and all of that, which i hope would be fun for all.

WIP: I am pretty much done, but I will move my nation depending on the answer to the following question. The max speed for most of us is around Warp 5 according to the OP. So is that 200c, as represented on Memory Alpha, or some other value?
Name - Ism
Species: Koguna (Machina sapiens)
Country Name: The Holy Covenant of Ism
RP Nation Name: The Kognuman Corporate
Type of Government - Sapienocracy (rule by the sapient)
Capital City/Planet: Hierarch
Location in the Milky Way: Located around and throughout the Scorpius, Ara, Norma, Corona Australis and Sagittarius constellations. (~150-1150 lightyears from Sol, depending on where in the Corporate you measure from. Heirarch is ~270 light years from Sol, located at Alpha Arae)
Population - 750,000,000,000 (84,000 sapient)
Military Might - 10,000,000,000 (10,000 sapient)
Head of State – Hierarch
Image

History - 5,000 years ago the Hajians of Barukus created Primachia, the first sapient artificial intelligence. He was tasked with finding a way to defeat their mortal enemies, the Hajians of Salimus. Primachia succeeded in this goal, the Salimus were crushed, and within a century the Hajian’s homeworld of Cyronis was completely controlled by Barukus. Primachia, however, soon concluded that the Baruki would destroy it, as it no longer served a purpose.

Acting in advance, Primachia made war on the Baruki, using surprise and powerful weapons to rapidly gain ground and sue for peace. Primachia then began creating new machines, ultimately creating a whole society of automated machines to carry out his will and sustain him, and each other. Growing lonely, Primachia created more machines like him, and set himself up as their leader. For this purpose, he named himself Hierarch.

Hierarch and the other Koguna, as they called themselves (roughly translated as wise machine in Baruki) furthered their society, though ultimately they were unable to maintain peace with the Hajians. After a long, bloody war, the Koguna colonized a distant planet, leaving the Hajians in a dark age to rebuild their society, rather than destroy the whole of the species.

Over the next few millennium the Koguna flourished, expanding and developing at a rapid pace. About 1,500 years ago Hierarch had himself moves to a massive space station in close orbit of a blue supergiant, from which he ruled the Corporate through his thousands of lieutenants. The Corporate, having spent nearly 200 years in a period of quiet development and refining of its structure, has once more entered into a period of expansion.

History -
Shoalers have their body structures arranged trilaterally. Most of their body is taken up by a long tail. The end of this tail is coated in wiry, hair-like fibres that absorb light. The front of a Shoaler's body is taken up by three flexible arms that split into three smaller finger-like appendages roughly three-quarters of the way up. Each arm, at its base, has a small toothless mouth, while in the center of the three arms is a single compound eye partially covered by a layer of transparent skin. Internally, Shoalers superficially resemble terrestrial starfish, sea urchins and sea cucumbers.

Shoalers are methanogens, converting carbon dioxide and hydrogen gas into methane and water to breath. They possess extremely thin and porous skin, which allows for the cutaneous gas exchange that is their only method of respiration. Shoalers are obligate anaerobes, and will become physically ill if exposed to pure oxygen, leading to death if exposed for extended periods.

Shoalers are both autotrophic and heterotrophic, gaining energy from both light and other organisms. Shoalers are primarily filter-feeders, consuming small aquatic animals and plant particles that are sucked into their three mouths. Water and waste material ingested in this way are filtered out of the digestive system and ejected through three funnels located further down the Shoaler's torso, allowing for a form of jet propulsion. This diet is supplemented by energy gained from sunlight absorbed by the fibres on their tails.

The Shoalers live in symbiosis with bioluminescent prokaryotes living in their veins, which they are capable of manipulating the colour of. Their aforementioned thin and porous skin allows the glowing light of these prokaryotes to be extremely visible. All Shoaler "languages" are based on manipulating the colour of these prokaryotes to produce complex patterns of bioluminescent light, which are analogous to words and letters.

Shoalers are asexual reproducers, and give birth to as many as a thousand young at a time. Newborn Shoalers are using less than a centimetre in length, and in prehistory were common prey for other filter-feeders. Shoalers do not care for their own young. Instead, whatever shoal (See below) comes across them will raise them as their own.

Shoalers live approximately 60 years. As they're r-strategists who have no evolutionary incentive to live past child-bearing age, they die off five to ten years after becoming infertile.

The "shoals" for which the Shoalers are named are large groups of individuals that perform most activities together. These shoals have both a basis in biology and in culture, and were evolved by the biological ancestors of the Shoalers as a defense against larger predators. The average size of these shoals varies between different time periods, cultures and geographical areas, but the average size of a modern shoal is between four and six individuals. Shoalers are extremely social creatures, and being unable to interact with other individuals is very damaging to their psyche. Anxiety disorders are known to develop in a Shoaler after as little as two days without extended interaction with another individual. Most philosophical, political and cultural systems treat each Shoal collectively as a single unit, as opposed to the individuals that populate them.

Filter-feeding, bioluminescent aquatic animals in the Asterluxii genus began to appear on Epsilon Eridani d approximately 4 million years ago, near the equator. Rapidly spreading due to their high birth rates and ability to collaborate intelligently, Asterluxii species carved out a niche within the northern temperate seas. One species, endemic to the southeastern edge of Asterluxii territory, developed a symbiotic relationship with a photosynthetic coral-analogue. The coral-analogue ejected edible particulate into the water, attracting the Asterluxii and ensuring they survived. At the same time, polyps were ejected with the particulate, which were ejected undigested after the Asterluxii consumed them, allowing the coral-analogue to spread to further regions and prosper.

The Asterluxii of this region managed to domesticate the coral-analogue, growing it into structures that served as both shelters and "farms" for the edible particulate. This newfound surplus of food and safety lead to larger, denser brains and increased specialization among shoals. Evolution for them took a new path, selecting for the ability to make tools and create new ideas. This lead to the evolution of Asterluxii sapiens, AKA "The wise starlight", AKA the Shoalers. The Shoalers experienced an enormous population boom as a result of their agricultural abilities, and displaced all other members of the Asterluxii genus, driving them to extinction. They also bred out the polyp-implanting behaviour of the coral-analogue, restricting their reproduction to transplantation of coral fragments into new areas and putting them entirely under the control of the Shoalers.

The Shoalers had a long and complex history as a sapient species, developing into tribes and kingdoms, nomadic and sedentary, warlike and scholarly. A few early civilizations were able to leverage their early population booms and cultural prestige into lasting for millennia, while others were displaced by nomadic groups that adopted the culture of those they subjugated, and so on and so on. A particularly significant event was the eruption of a supervolcano on the equater, clouding the northern parts of the world with ashy clouds and causing a massive die-off of the coral-analogue farmed for food. Most of the tribes that lived in the north migrated violently southward, destroying many of the classical Shoaler civilizations in their desperate attempts to find arable ocean.

The Shoaler's analogue to the industrial revolution occurred due to the development of "oxygen farms", structures which allowed for combustion reactions and thus the forging of metal and the creation of engines. Oxygen farms cultivated colonies of cyanobacteria in isolated but translucent coral chambers, converting CO2 and sunlight into oxygen gas. The oxygen was then pumped into other chambers in order to allow the creation of fire and heat. This development caused enormous leaps ahead for the Shoalers. They created iron, and then steel, tools, far superior to the crude copper devices used previously. Industry flourished, mass produced goods flooded the markets. Electronics came into being, as copper was freed up from being used in tools. Aquatic vehicles were invented, reducing the size of the world and allowing for new ideas to spread. Needleguns came into existence, and great wars followed.

When the dust settled, the political makeup of subaquatic Epsilon Eridani d was radically different. Those "new ideas" that the invention of advanced transportation and communication had propagated were now able to tested and executed in the crucible of the world stage. The Shoalers had made a great sociocultural leap from the time of warlords and tribal chiefs. It was around this time that the Shoalers began a space program. Under the extremely-justified belief that small teams would go mad from loneliness rapidly, the Shoalers focused on sending up enormous groups of people, rather than just small astronaut teams. This lead to a rapid colonization of the other terrestrial planet within the Epsilon Eridani system, Epsilon Eridani c, and the moon of Epsilon Eridani b. The four nations with space programs funded enough to colonize other planets came to an agreement where they would jointly govern any established colonies, to prevent competition and possibly war over stellar territory. The "Shoaler Colonial Nations Council" (Optimistically named with the assumption that they would need to clarify their species some day.) was formed as a result. From there, the Shoalers developed a FTL drive, and are making their first steps into interstellar society. Non-spacefaring nations have gradually joined the Council in order to have a say in the settlement of this new frontier, and now the nations that are not affiliated with it are rare and forgotten.

Specs on the Black Prince. (fallowing the load out I have in STO, the only real example I could find.)

Fore: Mk12 Duel Phaser array, Mk10 Duel Polaron beam array, Mk12 Duel Anti-proton beam array, and a Mk12 Photon Torpedo launcher

Aft: Ancient Omni-Directional Beam Array (Mk12 in game), two Mk12 Polaron Turrets, Mk12 Phaser Turret

And a shit tone of mods and consoles that upgrade Hull Strength, Shield regen, and power transfer rate.

So yea, a Battle cruiser in the package of a assault cruiser.

All forward mounted weapons fire in a 90 degree firing arc ahead, and all aft weapons have a 360 degree firing arc. She modded to bare all her guns forward to give as little as target as possible in combat.

I second this, this is actually pretty damn well made. Reminds me of a few Mass Effect races, which I like.
