The League of the Six Free Peoples has a very liberal refugee policy, welcoming all with open arms. In theory.

In practice, state institutions dealing with the refugee situation, like other parts of the government, are "guided" (controlled) by "private sector consultants" (actually La Cosa Fedora agents). These "private sector consultants" strictly screen refugees to separate neckbeards, those who are welcome, and those who are not.

Genuine neckbeards (and we can always tell a poser) can become members of La Cosa Fedora.

Those who are welcome are provided with jobs, but care is taken so that refugees of the same nation and religion are not concentrated in the same area to prevent them from becoming a hostile demographic in the future. Mysteriously the refugees always choose to live and work exactly where the fedora-clad consultants wish them to, and we can even present papers signed by the refugees that this decision was purely free choice, no pressure or coercion involved*!

Those who are not welcome will of course not be denied the opportunity to take refuge in our generous nation, as the laws of the League of the Six Free Peoples states that we must take them in. However, depending on the situation, a variety of things could happen:

Those who hold radical views often vanish. Some conspiracy loons sometimes make allegations which are completely baseless* that these individuals are later seen carrying out terror attacks as part of radical groups or as hashashin suicide squads, who they allege are controlled by La Cosa Fedora through the use of brain-washing drugs. No ties between this nation and any such groups has ever been proven*.

Those who are unable to work are put under surveillance, and sometimes we even send some heavily armed private security by to check up on their safety. By some freak coincidence, their relatives who do work are some of the most disciplined, hard-working, uncomplaining, and inexpensive labor ever seen.

Those who fake a condition of being unable to work (or those genuinely unable to work but lacking relatives who are able) often volunteer to participate in dangerous or risky experience or voluntarily exercise their right to euthanasia and donate their body to science. The same thing happens to those who commit crimes once they are here. Once again, we can produce the signed paperwork that these voluntary choices are made out of free will, with no pressure or coercion*.

* Anyone who says otherwise is clearly a lunatic, and is liable to end up getting checked in to a mental health hospital (or just suffering from a mysterious and unfortunate accident that coincidentally prevents them from spreading their dangerous views). Plus our media will always paint them as wacky tin-foil hat wearing losers.

Fadriotho will not give La Cosa Fedora any of its refugees.

Refugees are given citizenship if they can pay whoever caught them 1.150 thousand USD (118714.5 Fadriothoan Wera, FTW) in Fadriothoan currency. Otherwise, they are used as a labour source to pay off their debt of 1.150K and their taxes, which are required to enter Fadriotho as an immigrant. Their wages are rather generous, so as to keep them happy. This wage lowers as the government shoves pro-gov't propaganda and Buddhist teachings up their butt so they won't rebel, and actually rid themselves of all materialistic desires. They are now also free from taxes. The result is a very cheap source of labour that is very easy to handle, and is rapidly growing due to Fadriotho's economic prosperity in contrast to its African neighbours' usual behaviours.

Refugees are generally turned away from the borders of the Holy Roman Empire, due to the economic and ethnic situations of certain realms within the Empire. Nevertheless, if they are in dire need of asylum, local or national Roman officials will decide on an emergency contingency plan.

For example (and for hundreds of years), the Japanese to the West have been waging campaigns against rebelling Indians, Pakistanis, and Bangladeshis in the Indian subcontinent. This has created a large refugee crisis consisting of Muslim and Hindu refugees that mainly flood the Abdulmecid Caliphate's border. Even so, some of these refugees persist Eastward, towards Constantinople, Antioch, Alexandria, and Jerusalem (all Roman controlled territory), where they wait to either be granted asylum, citizenship, or temporary stay.

First if all, when they enter Huswyae they will need to fill in an "Asylum Card" which states the intention of asylum in Huswyae. In the card, your spouse, any children, and any disabled relatives travelling with you MUST be declared. This is so we don't separate your family, as that is something we will not do. Any family already living in Huswyae must also be declared.

Assuming those who live in ally nations won't need to claim asylum (we only ally with nations that are stable), you go to the customs officer (not the eGates) and give the Asylum card to the customs officer. They will call someone to take you to the Refugee Reception Centre at the airport (all international airports have them), where you will be dealt with. You and your family will be allocated a house paid for by the government, often somewhere in a different location from where you landed.

If you have children, their education will be paid for. Refugees are exempt from Clause 12 of the Immigration Act, which means those who are not refugees but are immigrants who earn less than 25,000 Rossoes get deported. This means refugees won't be deported.

Appalachia is landlocked and surrounded by stable nations, so it is unusual for migrants to show up in large groups. Additionally, Appalachia is not a signatory to any international conventions that require us to re-settle refugees.

If an individual or family arrives in our nation seeking political asylum, we will grant them an extended residency visa which will allow them to stay in Appalachia while they undergo the normal citizenship process, which includes extensive background screening. If for any reason they are not accepted through this process (the most typical reason is lack of jobs skills or other method of monetary support), we will offer to re-settle them in a friendly nation rather than deport them to a nation where they will face persecution.

Refugees are considered illegal immigrants and are not permitted entry into Ephyral territory. Those refugees whom attempt to force themselves across the border will be met with lethal force.
Refugees may only be granted refuge within Ephyra if they make a pledge of servitude which will be held to them for life, as well as their descendants.

We rarely accept refugees and illegal immigrants in general. Even then, as two islands in the middle of the ocean, we rarely, if ever, get refugees here. They usually go to a nation on the continental land. All refugees who come in must have all the requirements to enter our nation; non-threatening behavior, no contagious diseases, and mental health that fits the minimum standards. However, if they are desperate, we will allow them to stay here and nurse them back to health. They must later work to pay back (when they're healthy), usually in police, community, or military service. If they have children, they get six months of free education, free english classes, and lunchboxes. Within six months afterwards, the family must pay at least half the fee and tuition for education. After ONE year after that, they must pay full.

In Nusquam Gentium, refugees are allowed to enter as long as they pass certain regulations. These regulations include, but are not limited to, political affiliation, eventually passing a citizenship test, and whether or not they are they from a nation we are currently at war against. While it may seem cruel to turn away these people, these regulations have been set in place to help protect Nusquam Gentium and preserve her glory. Refugees who do not pass these regulations are entered into the "Find a Home" program in which we direct them to nations who are more likely to accept them.

However, Illegal Immigration is strictly looked down upon, and Illegal Immigrates who have not gone through the proper means of citizenship are forced into slavery to repay a debt to society, however great it must be.

Smara is a nation of refugees, letting anything in without pesky laws which inhibit that. However, power-hungry governments and corporations have tried to exploit this policy and conquer Smara. Many nations have a simultaneous claim on the island jewel, but none have destroyed Smara.

We have designated otherwise unused islands to established long or short-term habitation of refugees, and one or more may be used depending on the number of people seeking refuge. The islands individually are large enough to inhabit a great number of people. The island security is tight, with comprehensive naval patrols to ensure that people do not attempt to enter Merriwhether illegally, nor any unauthorized person enter the refugee areas undocumented. Within the refugee areas, however, the people are treated with respect and military security officers are encouraged to associate. Military officers who speak the particular language are prioritized for this role of mingling with the refugees and protecting the peace in refugee habitats. Merriwhether is currently giving home to 11,779 Syrian refugees and 812 Pacific climate refugees.
