World Cup of Ice Hockey 31 [Rosters/RPs/Results]

Postby Hannasea » Tue Aug 23, 2016 6:30 am

HANNASSEA
World Cup of (Ice) Hockey 31

Welcome to Hannasea for the 31st World Cup of Ice Hockey. Hannasea is a small, unremarkable city-state federation, located in the Rushmori Alps. Ice hockey is not a majority sport but is growing in popularity, and the country's alpine climate is suited to hosting ice hockey even in late summer. Politically, Hannasea's major influences are the Guild Houses. Originating in medieval Hannasea, the first guilds reflected the trades of the time, such as the Guilds of Fletchers, Coopers, and Chandlers, but over time they have modernized: the most recent trades to have had their Guild Houses officially incorporated include the Guild of YouTube Games Reviewers, the Guild of PPI Claims Telemarketers, and the Guild of Celebrity Jazzercise Workout Videos. Nine of the bigger, richer, more prominent Guilds have bid to host groups during the World Cup of Hockey. The Hannasean people are generally friendly though somewhat intolerant of outsiders and deeply distrustful of non-humans, and are enthusiastic if not entirely knowledgeable ice hockey fans.

Group draw

There are 8 groups of 5. Each group was drawn using seeded pots (the numbers represent current WCoH rankings, not overall seedings - Novaya Zemlya is ranked 6th but, because of Ko-oren's absence, seeded 5th, for example) with the unranked nations randomized. Each group then had one nation drawn from each pot, and each group was then further randomized.

Groups will play a single round robin format as follows:

MD1 (27 August): 2v5 3v4 1rest
MD2 (28 August): 5v3 1v2 4rest
MD3 (29 August): 3v1 4v5 2rest
MD4 (30 August): 1v4 2v3 5rest
MD5 (31 August) (1 September): 4v2 5v1 3rest

Guild of Mercers Group
The Guild of Mercers is the predominant political power in Hannasea. Though neither the oldest, largest, nor richest Guild House, the nation's dependence on the merchant trade has ensured its concerns are always paramount within the ministries. The Mercers Group will play their games in an entirely new purpose-built arena in the city of Pintook, with teams being given accommodation in the famous brightly colored chalets that cluster the shoreline of Lake Took.

Nephara (12)
Ilyseum (27)
Gregoryisgodistan (9)
Tumbra (UR)
Beaverriver (UR)

Guild of Mongers Group
The Guild of Mongers is the largest Guild in all Hannasea, though its size sometimes works to its disadvantage. Born of a consolidation between various disparate Guilds - such as the Cheesemongers, Ironmongers, and Fishmongers - it is often riven by internal divisions over different types of "mongering", and as such is relatively politically irrelevant. Its stadium reflects this, conjuring up a unique smell that combines the ambience of a fishmonger's stall with the character of iron foundry, a charming aroma that will also percolate through the accommodation rooms above the arena. It is based in the industrial heartland of New Blopping.

Anglatia (=56)
Islana Lunigo (UR)
Abanhlfleft (10)
Unified Sunrise Islands (24)
Prusy Krolewskie (UR)

Guild of Alchemists Group
The oldest Guild in Hannasea was drifting into irrelevance with the decline of belief in alchemy, but encountered a surge of renewal in the eighteenth century as industrial chemistry took off. While the accoutrements of its Guild House - including the associated lodgings and hockey arena, bedecked with alchemic symbols and with much gold leaf on display - speak to its past, most of its Guild members derive their income from more modern occupations such as agrochemicals. It is one of two major Guilds in the First City of Old Blopping, and is in fact one of the few extant buildings in what used to be the Royal Houses.

Kaboomlandia (15)
Novaya Zemlya (6)
Second Ndakene Federation (UR)
Parah (UR)
Aquitayne (=28)

Guild of Apothecaries Group
Another ancient Guild, the Apothecaries have, much like the Alchemists, substantially modernized their operation, and only narrowly voted down a proposal to rename themselves as the Guild of Impotence Medication Suppliers. Essentially, they're the trade guild of the pharmaceutical industry, and as such very wealthy. Although isolated to the coastal city of Kent, their hotels and arena are modern and sophisticated, with an 18,000 seating capacity, large television replay screens, and a shifty-looking guy who hangs around the changing rooms selling unidentifiable purple pills by the handful.

Royal Kingdom of Quebec (3)
Quaniva (UR)
Narsora (=28)
United States of Devonta (=19)
Letwinist States (UR)

Guilds of Skinners and Tailors Group
The skinners' and tailors' Guilds have been locked in historic battle over seniority for centuries, and when it came to bidding on which Guild would play host to the Hannasean national team, another round of fractious arguing broke out. To settle the dispute, the other Guilds have agreed that the two Guilds will co-host the group, building a new shared arena, one half of which is decorated with luscious furs (and scary skinning knives), the other with fine silks and haberdashery (and slightly less scary...sewing needles?). Teams in this group will be housed in a small B&B determined to be equidistant to the nearest centimetre between the two Guild Houses in the cities of Lampton and Brethwick respectively, meaning it's situated in the middle of nowhere.

Ficiscia (17)
Hannasea (UR)
Nova Anglicana (11)
Sjovenia (UR)
Mercedini (=56)

Guild of Launderers
The richest Guild House in all Hannasea is found in the somewhat inconspicuous town of Market Haverlock, but it has little to do with the humble trade of linen washing. Instead, it has evolved into the trade association for the bankers of Hannasea, a country whose notorious secrecy laws make it something of a tax haven for international depositors wanting to evade too much scrutiny as to the nature of their accounts. The banal exterior of the Guild House hides the lavish interior, and teams in this group - including the world #1 seeds - can expect five star accommodation, while they will play their games in a magnificent, fully underground arena, situated under Lake Carrier.

The Republican of Arkan (=43)
The Serbian Empire (UR)
New Jarwel (UR)
Valanora (1)
Vilita and Turori (21)

Guild of Brewers Group
An old, wealthy and immensely popular Guild House, the Guild of Brewers is based in the First City of Old Blopping. Its operations have continued relatively unperturbed by the march of history, and are mostly an unpolitical house that stays out of meddling with the Ministries, save for the four years of Prohibition in the early 20th century when a hitherto peaceful Guild turned itself into a violent insurrectionary force. To this day, it retains a symbolic private military presence overlooking the Chief Ministry no such foolishness returns. The Guild is under strict orders to limit its complimentary offerings to its Group members, who will be housed in a series of inns around the city and play in an arena built out of old casks (two hours of breathing the air inside will be enough to fail a breathylyzer test).

Esparmuran (4)
Northi Arabia (UR)
Qasden (UR)
Nassau-Hessen (22)
Cheongji (=56)

Guild of Pepperers Group
The remarkably bland natural cuisine of Hannasea has long created a strong demand for the spice trade, and the spicers' Guild is fairly powerful as a result. Located in the port city of Upper Niedewe, on the Incomprehensible Peninsula, the Guild has a role much larger than merely supplying table salt and pepper, also effectively running international trade negotiations and being strongly protective of merchant shipping. The resulting political volatility reflects the spiciness of its wares, but it should be able to offer good accommodation in seafront cottages and an arena built into the Cliffs of Strangeness, giving one team a magnificent ocean vista, and the other team a slightly less magnificent vista of solid rock.

Anthor (37)
Tobiasia (UR)
Elejamie (2)
Cosumar (13)
Greater Vakolicci Haven (UR)

The top two teams in each group will advance to the Round of 16.

Round of 16 (2 September)
QF (3 September)
SF (4 September)
3PPO (5 September)
Final (6 September)

Rosters and roleplays

If you are new to NS Sports, I would strongly recommend the Guide to Sports Roleplaying.

If possible, post a team roster. There will be a roster bonus, up to one whole day's RP bonus, available for everyone who posts a roster, which will be graded, as with all roleplays, on detail, style, and humor. A personal request would be that if your team is known as by something other than your nation's name, please include this in your roster.

Please make sure to post RP permissions. If you don't post permissions, your opponents may assume default permissiveness. Here's a sample RP permissions sheet, but feel free to customize your own with anything that's important:

Code: Select all
My opponent may:
Choose my scorers? Y/N
Choose my box score stats? Y/N
Give out suspensions? Y/N
Give out ejections? Y/N
RP my players engaging in fights? Y/N
Godmode events? Y/N

There will be a daily RP bonus. Short news snippets will be posted at each daily RP cutoff, which will be posted at 0900 UTC.

At the end of the tournament, the Hannasean Federation will name an unofficial tournament MVP and an unofficial tournament Best-Of team.

OOC questions

If there are OOC questions or complaints, please post them in the WCoH discussion thread so that this thread may be kept clean for IC matters. Please do not post purely OOC posts in this thread.

Matchday 1 will be scorinated 27 August, 0900 UTC.

Greater Anglatian Imperial Hockey Team
The Vikings

Hockey was brought to Anglatia when the Kingdom of Valeria was absorbed into the Empire, and that mysterious island nation has long produced the top hockey players in the nation. Those players are now facing the rest of the world, as part of a team made up of the Imperial Hockey Superleague's best talent. The top hockey clubs currently are Underfell, Calovice, and Rasmyra, while the Irons are going through a resurgence.

Manager: Jesper Bryndottir(37): The former Irons star is now the manager of the national team after leading the Gaels to the IHL title in her first year with them as coach. Her twenty year playing career saw her lead the Irons to their only title, and five straight finals, before leaving and winning six titles with their archrivals, the Ross Lions and two with the Underfell Vikings, near the end of her career. Notably, her twin daughters are both current players on the squad.

Assistant: Sigurd Lewis(45): Lewis also had a playing career that was quite notable, and he's well known for being the fulcrum of the Lions team that won six titles, because he was their first line center for the whole run. The half-Valerian combines the physical style of the main island of Anglatia, and the more flashy style of Valeria, and was one of the most exciting players to watch during his career. When it comes to coaching, he's considered a hands on coach who excels in dealing with personnel.

About Ilyseum

Ilyseum is a nation in the Realm of the Gods, an alternate reality where gods are real, electricity does not exist and magical powers exist. Ilyseum is the name given to the Ilysee Republic, which is centered around the Eternal Capital of Ilysea. Ilysea is a massive city, one of the largest in the Realm of the Gods, built on a dozen hills and home to over a million.

This is the third World Cup of Hockey for the Ilysee team. This time, two years have passed since the last WCoH tournament but Ilysee time is controlled by Destino, the god of time of fate. Destino slowed time in the Realm to a crawl, enabling the Ilysee hockey team to compete in WCoH 30 a mere week after they had been eliminated from WCoH 29. This tournament will be ICly taking place simultaneously with the Olympia Games, so the Ilysee team will be traveling back and forth using portals to compete in their matches at both tournaments.

Ice is an unknown quantity in Ilysee territory, so Ilysee hockey players compete on concrete but otherwise under virtually identical rules to those of ice hockey. The main difference between Ilysee rules and WCoH rules, other than the addition of ice, is the number of fouls, which is much smaller under Ilysee rules and the number of officials, which is just 1 in Ilysee hockey. Otherwise, the sports are virtually identical and Ilysee hockey pucks even behave very similarly to ice hockey pucks. Another thing that is unusual about the Ilysee hockey team is that they compete wearing only loincloths and skates, as is the custom for hockey players in their country.

FICISCIAN WORLD CUP OF HOCKEY XXXI ROSTER

TEAM AND NATION INFORMATION

The team of Ficiscia takes part in its third World Cup of Hockey. Its captain since the first participation back in the 29th edition in The Royal Kingdom of Quebec has been Decimius Vero. Record national players are Lucius Minor, Antonis Larins and Manuel Aleixos with 29 games played each. The team's top scorer is Sergius Marcantor with a total of 18 points (11 goals, 7 assists). Ficiscia's biggest success so far is reaching the Round of 16 twice, once losing it 2-0 against RK Quebec in WCoH 29, once losing 2-1 to Novaya Zemlya a year ago. In junior's hockey, the team took bronze in both its past participations. The team is famous for its fast and technical ice hockey. It is capable of outspeeding most opponents and has strengths in creating chances, but tends to have problems in hard, physical games. They can be compared probably best to RL's Russia national team.

In Ficiscia, ice hockey is the most popular sport during winters while football is more popular overall by attendance and players overall. Nevertheless, important hockey games attract TV crowds similar to football and can cause the nation to stand still. The World Cup usually gets celebrated by large public screens in all major cities, especially along the coastline. Famous and traditional spots for viewing include Central Carinha, where screens are put on the Neptunia River as well as multiple bars in the old town, Friya's Norjastadion, usually the 9'000-seater home stadium of first division club NHK Friya, and Limites and Antiqua where the city's main squares in front of their respective town halls are used. In Limites, crowds of over 10'000 are expected for each Ficiscian game despite the cold temperatures that rarely go over 0°C in winter. Ficiscia is known for its colourful and loud fans that often bring large quantities of flags, scarves, banners and drums into stadiums. Often, choreos involving pyrotechnics are also performed on the way to venues, but the Ficiscian fans usually stay peaceful if not attacked.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Power Play

Ficiscia plays in the Umbrella formation (one defender at the blue line, indicated as BL - two snipers on the sides, indicated as SNP - two forwards in front of the goal, indicated as FOG). It focuses on direct shots from the blue line or the snipers that are to be deflected or used as rebounds by the two FOG attackers. Due to the Ficiscian weakness in front of the goal, most PP goals will likely happen by direct shots from the BL or SNP.

First formation: BL #5 Lucius Minor - SNP #15 Baldur Hejman / #9 Kyrillos Brica - FOG #7 Sergius Marcantor / #24 Alexandros Praesumptus
Second formation: BL #13 Harall Berjaman - SNP #8 Anderr Thorvaldssenn / #14 Manuel Aleixos - FOG #36 Decimius Vero / #21 Marcus Licius

Penalty Killing

The PK formation of choice is usually a fairly defensive, passive box system. However, one of the two attackers does like to try and intercept blue line passes to get a breakaway, due to the high speed and good technical - including breakaway - skills of the Ficiscian forwards. If the puck is conquered, they often try to get a pass in first to get shorthander chances, but if this proves unsuccessful shooting it out is the way to go. Should the opponent play an umbrella PP similar to Ficiscia's, the defense usually switches into a diamond system.

First formation: #88 Iacobus Fulvius - #23 Marius Neri - #9 Kyrillos Brica - #36 Decimius Vero
Second formation: #5 Lucius Minor - #4 Manuel Pecurii - #65 Marcus Vaccarius - #8 Anderr Thorvaldssenn

OOC: I'm sick and stuck in bed again, so I went ahead and started writing this early. If you haven't realized by now, this series will be written halfway in present day and halfway in out of order flashbacks.
Legends/Prices - Part One

“The arena is packed, the northern terrace is rocking, the roof is open on this cool night in Bathgate, and we've got ourselves a treat! On the right side of the ice, you see the Irons warming up. They've been in five straight finals, but with their roster of stars crumbling around them, they'll have to fight to make it to a sixth. Still, their teams have always been built on speed, hustle, and grit, and it's never easy to defeat them at the Steelworks Arena during the playoffs.

On the other side of the ice are the Lions. The hated Ross Lions. Led by talismanic center Sigurd Lewis, the Ross Lions finished second to the Irons during their title winning campaign, two seasons back. These upstarts from Anglatia have blended their local style with the flair of Valeria, and the result has been nothing short of amazing. Entering the ice now is a name that the set of fans here will know well, a name that they formerly loved but they now hate with a passion. Jesper. Formerly number nine, she's taken on number zero with her new team, after signing for them in free agency. It's quite fitting, because there's zero love for her here tonight.

As you can hear, the boos are deafening in this arena. Getting on the bad side of the Bathgate fans has never ended well for anyone, let alone a former Irons superstar. Will Jesper be able to play like her old self, during her first playoff game back at the Steelworks? Will the Irons bounce back and win with a team of youngsters? Find out next, in this special edition of the Intercontinental League Semifinals!”

The warmups concluded, and both sets of players skated to the blue lines for the Imperial anthem. Jesper stared straight ahead, looking into the eyes of her former partner on the wing, Darren Marooney. The Irons were his team now, even if he didn't quite realize it. He glared at her until she looked down, and when the anthem concluded and the captains skated to center ice to shake hands, he shook the hand of both alternate captains and then flashed his middle finger at Jesper before rushing back to his own end of the ice. The crowd roared, loving the gesture, and the fans near the ice slapped the boards in excitement.

Everyone lined up for the face off. Darren was lined up in front of Sigurd Lewis, and the two got into position. The referee dropped the puck, and Darren won the face off and slapped the puck backwards towards the Irons defenders. Jesper took off from the left flank and chased the puck behind the goal, before being absolutely crushed by a brutal check from Darren, who leaped off of the ice and used his arm to drive her face into the glass. A scream of pain cut through the air, and she dropped to the ground and spat a mouthful of blood onto the ice. There was no foul, and the Irons took the puck and raced down the ice with it, with Darren passing to their center who took a quick one timer shot that was held by the goalie.

Sigurd skated over to Jesper, offering to help her up. She didn't move, or say anything. She was on the ground in fetal position, with blood dripping from the corner of her mouth. “You okay?” he asked, even though the answer was an obvious no. The Lions captain had been knocked unconscious, possibly by her head hitting her ice after the dirty hit. The rest of the Lions crowded the referee and complained, asking for an ejection, but the ref waved away their concerns, as the medical staff lifted Jesper off the ice and the cleaning crew rushed out to wipe up the blood.

The crowd were satisfied by seeing their former star get taken out of the game, and it seemed that the whole arena waved and sung “goodbye” as she was carried back to the locker room. It was less than a minute into the game, and the tempers of this rivalry had already flared in a big way. Yes, it was going to be one of those games, one of those ones that people would look back on decades later. The only question is, who would they look back on as the hero, and who would they see as the villain?

=====

“No. I haven't apologized for anything. I never will. I don't have any respect for her, and I won't have any until she stops trying to rationalize her actions,” said Bathgate Irons manager Darren Marooney. “You media members don't know the whole story. She told us that she'd retire an Iron. Everyone believed her, and we were building the team around her. And then during free agency, she got tired of losing in finals and broke that promise to form a super team in Ross. That's not what made me lose respect, though. I lost respect for her because even though she left, she could have went to any other team, but she picked our main rival. She brought hope to our city, made us believe that she would be here for her whole career, and then buggered off to Ross and went on to win six rings. Us Bathgaters are completely justified to not respect her.”

“Has this created tension between you and Jesper’s twin daughters, who both play for your club?” asked the journalist, who was looking down towards the ice where the national team was warming up for practice. “And how has that playoff series between the Lions and Irons affected your relationship?”

“To answer your first question, no. Not at all. I've told them to their faces that I think that their mother is a jackass, and they understand why I think that. They aren't at all unsettled at the club. They love the people here and the team that we've put together, and they both want to stay for the foreseeable future,” Darren replied. “About that playoff series… We don't talk about that. It's in the past, and both girls were very young when it happened. We don't focus on the past, even though that's where our greatest success was. Everyone is focused on building something new and unique, something that will win more than one out of five finals.”

“Don't you think that Bathgate fans will disagree with moving away from the style of the speed based teams of the Intercontinental period?”

Darren shook his head exasperatedly. “When did I say we were ditching speed? I never said that! But the teams that I played on were one dimensional. We couldn't out hustle anyone without picking up too many penalties. Everyone wants to fit our style into an archetype, but the truth is, it's something new. This isn't our old strategy, this isn't the Ross strategy, this is something new that's been worked on by the best statisticians in the business.”

“Okay. One last question, what do you think about the rumors that Jesper Bryndottir wants to sign for the Lions as a player again, at age thirty seven?”

“Hey J, if you're listening to this, I've got some solid advice for you. Stay off the ice and stick to management, before someone runs you into the glass again and breaks your sorry ass for good,” Darren said with a hint of annoyance in his voice. “Some players have strong enough bodies to pull off the playing at thirty seven thing. You are not one of them.”

“Thank you for coming onto the show, and giving us your unfiltered opinions. That was Darren Marooney, everyone, and you can see his team take the ice at the start of the season when they play the defending champion Gaels on the road for their opener. The game, of course, will be televised on GASN 4 and on local channels in Upper Valeria and Northeast Anglatia.”

After the interview finished, Darren stood up and pulled on his burgundy and white Irons jacket, and stepped into an elevator to go down to ice level. He was there, along with some other coaches, to scout the national team players, and he would be traveling with the team to provide advice to his Bathgate players and also to look out for good international prospects. When he stepped out of the elevator, he walked close to the bench and took a seat six or seven rows up, where he had a good view of the end of the ice that the practice was mostly taking place in. Even though he was here as an observer, he still couldn't suppress his instincts as a longtime player and coach. “Keep it in, Ash, keep it in! Put your weight forward, don't let yourself drift back!” he shouted to Ashleigh Jesperdottir, who was playing as a winger on the third line. “Great! Now find the open pass! Remember the four second rule!”

Ashleigh took a slap shot, remembering how Darren didn't like his wingers holding the puck at the other team’s end for more than four seconds. She then looked to the stands and made a thumbs up sign as the shot went over the shoulder of Ivar Sitko for a goal. “What are you doing coaching here? You don't work for the national team!” Samir Jankovic shouted towards Darren. It was only fitting that a Gaels player would be the one giving him trouble.

“Pipe down, mate. I'm just helping out my top prospect,” Darren said, putting his hands up innocently. “You're afraid I'm going to help her take your spot, eh?”

“What I said still stands. You aren't a coach here. Don't you have anything to do back in Bathgate?”

“Mate, what do you think I'm here for? I'm traveling with the team to do some scouting for the season, and I wanted to stop by and help my twins out.”

“Your twins?” asked Jesper, standing up from the bench and making air quotes around the word ‘your’. “Gimme a break, Darren. You can hardly call them ‘yours’. They practically saved you and your job, not the other way around.”

“Can you be sure of that? They apparently liked my coaching enough to not run away to Ross when negotiating time rolled around,” Darren stated, his temper rising. Jesper could tell because his thick Bathgate accent was coming out now that he was more emotional.

“When you're the one who’s raised them for seventeen years, you can say that they're yours. Now, knock it off. We've got a practice to-”

“No, you bugger off. They don't even look like ya, they've obviously got their father’s genes. And ya don't have the right to claim to be some super parent. If anyone else neglected their kids as much as you did during your playing career, they'd get thrown in jail for it,” Darren snapped, standing up and walking down to the glass. “If I'd raised ‘em, I wouldn't've left them home alone for days on end while ya chased rings in the playoffs with Ross. I wouldn't have ever left ‘em with babysitters while you jetsetted around the country durin’ the season.”

“Darren, this is not the time of the place to-”

“I haven't said anything that isn't true. Nat, isn't that right?”

Natali, who was on the bench and wearing full goalkeeper equipment, quickly covered her face with her mask and avoided answering the question. But when all the eyes were on her, she spoke up reluctantly. “He's right, mother…” she admitted quietly. She hated being put on the spot, but she was willing to speak up to defend her coach.

“If you want to talk about my parenting skills, we can talk later. For now-”

“I get it. Ya want me gone, you don't want me to out coach you at your own practice. Well, I'm out of here. But remember something, Jes. You've played for twenty years, and won nine titles, but you've done it at the cost of selling your soul. Everyone outside of Ross hates you, you've neglected your twins, and every former player knows that you broke the unwritten rule of not running off to your rivals. The father of your girls hated ya so much that he quit the Church and dumped you for a man. How does it feel, Jes?” asked Darren, spreading his arms in an exaggerated questioning gesture.

Jesper kept a calm expression, looking him right in the eye. “I really don't understand the question.”

“How does it feel to know that your nine rings came at the cost of your family, your friends, and everyone respecting you? At what point did you realize that you'd given your whole life to your career, and that you ruined everything else in your life so you could keep playing? How does it fecking feel to know that your daughters tried to run away because of your parenting?”

“This isn't the time to discuss that,” Jesper said calmly, and Darren threw his arms in the air in frustration and turned to walk away.

“I know. I'm just giving you some stuff to think about. And next time I come to give my twins help, don't interrupt. I obviously care about ‘em more than you,” Darren replied, and with that he walked off.

Everyone knew of the legendary rivalry between him and Jesper. Not many thought that it would extend to coaching and be reignited by the national team. But all those years after Darren ran Jesper into the glass, he was back and he had done the same thing to her, only metaphorically instead of literally this time. It was all part of his plan, not just to aid the three Bathgaters who played for the national team, but also to sow dissent and make the players realize the truth about their manager.

Because quite frankly, it was a job that he deserved instead, and he would go to any lengths to take it from his former best friend turned archenemy. Even if those lengths included destroying her life and breaking the image of her that was held by the media. Especially if those lengths involved that.

Go crazy, but don't kill Lord Almighty Gregory. However, expect reciprocation if you injure/kill my players. Also, if you mention my country in an RP but don't call it by its full name (i.e. "Gregoryisgodistan" without any special formatting in the middle) please TG me to give me a heads up.You don't need to wait for permission and I might not even reply. I often search for my country's name so I can respond to RP's more easily, but if you don't mention it by name, that doesn't work. You can also mention it by name in an OOC note somewhere in the RP instead of TG'ing me, since then it will show up in a search. If for whatever IC reason you decide to strike the "isgod" in the name of the nation, as in Gregoryisgodistan, that will not suffice as notification as it will not show up in the search. In that case, TG me or mention my name without the strike either IC-ly or OOC-ly somewhere in your RP. If the formatting effects the whole name (i.e. Gregoryisgodistan, it will still show up in search, so you don't need to do anything else.

Actor 81248D8J is well-known for playing Doybert on the hit TV show "Costa Lunians Say the Darndest Things"..... Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel comes from a long family of Enemy Crusher goaltenders, most of whom have been executed or murdered for crushing.... Enemy Crusher Krushallah Krushdumpy is the fattest enemy crusher at 930 pounds. He was formerly known as Enemy Crusher Krushallah Krushsaintland until he changed his name to reflect Gregoryisgodistan's alliance with West Saintland (which the Gregoryisgodistani government refers to by its official name of Kingdom of Saintland) and the hatred of Dumpy O'Rumpy of the Free Republics.... Enemy Crusher Crushallov St. Lind also changed his name, to Enemy Crusher Crushallov Dafree Republics, to reflect the new political situation.

We will wear dark uniforms for home matches. For away matches, if our opponent wears a dark uniform, we will wear white. If our opponent wears white, we will wear our dark uniform.

What's a Pervert Chaser? Sounds inappropriate.
A pervert chaser is someone whose job it is to chase down those accused of sexually-related crimes, like mooning, nudity, indecent exposure, rape, and molestation, and cut off their private organs, then bring them in for trial, sentencing, and either a fine, slave labor, or execution depending on the offense.

What's a Horse Beater?
One form of entertainment in Gregoryisgodistan is where a Horse Beat beats horses with all sorts of torture devices, like whips, maces, pepper spray, and machetes, until the horse dies a horrible painful death. It is like rodeos, only more gruesome. These horses are randomly caught in the countryside by Horse Snatchers, then sold to Horse Recruiters, who bring them to the Horse Beating Show.

I'm from a country with sapient ponies. Should we be afraid?
Our laws prevent sapient beings from being beaten, but also define sapient beings as humans or intelligent extraterrestrials. So alien ponies need not worry. Earth ponies, on the other hand, could theoretically be caught, but as long as they do not roam the countryside with wild, non-sapient ponies, they should be fine, since horse snatchers typically do not look for horses in hotels or hockey rinks.

What's an Enemy Crusher?
Enemy crushers are very heavy Gregoryisgodistani government agents whose job it is to crush and torture criminals to get them to reveal information. They almost always kill the criminal. Enemy Crushers at the World Bowl and World Cup of Hockey, among other tournaments, crushed to death numerous fans, referees, and opponents. They were then rewarded by the Gregoryisgodistani government.

Should I be afraid?
Just don't anger an Enemy Crusher and you'll be fine.

Which players like to fight?
The pervert chasers, prison guards, and slave beaters are very prone to fights due to their violent professions. Additionally, the Enemy Crushers have been known to crush opposing players, referees, or spectators. This often results in their deaths, much like what happened at the World Bowl. Nobody other than Enemy Crushers are capable of killing anyone, though pervert chasers carry their private-cutting knife with them at all times, and in the event a player, coach, fan, or spectator commits a sexual-related crime during a hockey match in Gregoryisgodistan, they will cut off their privates in the middle of the match. It might even happen in road matches. This will be very painful. So basically, don't indecently expose yourselves and you should be fine.

Willinglsey Arena opened for World Cup of Hockey XXV and was the creation of Lord Almighty Gregory, God of the Multiverse. It seats 9,500, with room for an additional 570 fans of the visiting team to be hung from the rafters. No other visiting fans will be allowed in the arena.

Image

Please refer to players by their full name at all times. For instance, our starting goalkeeper should be Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel and our left wing should be Weatherman 92UDH9111. This follows the typical Gregoryisgodistan naming format, which is title and government ID number, except for government VIPs which are title and name. Use both at all times. Do not just say McFattel or 92UDH9111.

The demonym is Gregoryisgodistani. The ice hockey team is nicknamed the Ice Slaves, and you may use this nickname.

Diyapota, the world's largest trade center
By Simon Wood, Britonish globetrotter, beer enthusiast, and blogger

I've heard countless stories of nonhuman and human conflict, killings, and all sorts of stuff in the country that is today known as the Second Ndakene Federation. Maintaining a benevolent and sensible democracy back in the 2020 era, the Ndakene Federation today, in 2070 A.D., is very different. Back then in the First Ndakene Federation, nonhumans and humans were thought to peacefully coexist. Today, nonhumans don't stand a chance even stepping foot within the country's territories around the world, and reasons for that is because the nonhumans, specifically speaking of the Beastkins, were committing specie genocides; against humans.

Their current leader, Lee Samara, is moderately respected in Britonisea. As we are Britonish, many of us are reasonably passive when it comes to international politics and related stuff. President Lee Samara is sought to be a so-called benevolent dictator to Britonish, as he really doesn't oppress his people. However, those who screw up or show signs of nonhuman solidarity are facing some harsh and bad times. As long as they aren't, the Federation is seemingly as benevolent as it was in the 2020's before the Species Cold War sprung up.

I booked a trip to this mysterious land to see how things were for myself. After all, I've always wanted to visit a place where there were only humans and mixed race people everywhere, practically.

I was to travel to the Eastern Asian province, which is literally in eastern Asia. That's where the capital city was, Diyapota. Known to be the largest drug trading, arms manufacturing, soda producing, agriculture; you name it. Diyapota is a commercial hub for many allied human nations as well as for the Second Ndakene Federation. Drugs were freely produced in the country, thus citizens, as well as tourists, enjoyed the good feeling of getting higher than the tallest Ndakene building in existence.

Diyapota is also a major sports center for the country, where the biggest sports venues are located. Because Diyapota is located in a relatively cool area of the planet, so winter sports were a popular thing in this province as well as the Eurasian province. Winter sports were too introduced in the Brazilian and Congolese provinces, but they're not as prevalent as they are here in the Eastern Asian.

First arriving in the Diyapota International Airport, I noticed almost every sign was translated six times; in Broken Mongolian, French, Bantu, English, Portuguese, and Russian. Holy crap! Growing up here in the Federation would mean you'd have to be at least fluent in all 6 languages, as Ndakenes are. I was amazed, astonished, and simply intrigued.

On my way to my hotel via a neat shuttle, I saw tons of advertisements on the World Cup of Hockey, which I guess is being held in a small, unremarkable city-state federation, located in the Rushmori Alps, named Hannasea. I could see there was a lot of hype for this tournament, but the nation hasn't even begun the qualifying phase.

It also intrigued me how I didn't see any advertisement, billboard, or holographic screen promoting anything relating to domestic politics. There were some news stations, but I assumed those were state run. I could tell, from my experience travelling parts of the world, and simply observing various people on the streets, that Ndakenes were politically apathetic, and all they really cared about were sports, drugs, education, music, sex, and themselves. Ah, humans.

Rather than bore you with yet another brief history about Elejamie in the World Cup of Hockey, I'll instead recap the last installment instead. Much like the 29th World Cup of Hockey, the group stages over in Trondheim, Norrehavn saw the Icy Elephants blow every single opponent out of the water. They kicked off the tournament with a 6-1 thrashing of Ethane, managed three straight shut-outs (5-0 against Kitsunia-Deesse, 3-0 against Semarland and 6-0 against the Land of Dat Boi) before rounding it off with a 4-1 victory over eventual runners-up Ontorisa. They didn't show any signs of slowing down as they swept their series against the hosts, winning the first game 4-2 and the second 4-1. And, although they managed to show some promise in game one against Nordeana, winning 4-1, they showed some signs of slowing down in game two, which only saw them win 2-0. Indeed, it appeared that they were struggling in their series against Kaboomlandia, just managing a 7-6 victory after going into the third period 5-2 down; although the defence showed small signs of improvement, the Icy Elephants could only manage a 6-4 win over the Phoenix. Eventually, they faced Valanora - a team they had previously faced in the semi-finals of the 28th WCoH (with the Calcuttas not only sweeping the series but later winning the tourney on home ice) - and showed some promise in game one, with a 5-4 OT win thanks to the puck just going through the five hole thanks to an Anatoly Kasputin slapshot and Suiadan Lasséseth trying to block the shot a little too late. Unfortunately, a second World Cup victory in a row wasn't to be, as the Icy Elephants went down 6-5 (again in overtime) in game two and, to round things off, a 3-2 regular time win for the Calcuttas saw them get their fifth tournament win.

And now they're back to avenge their loss. With Donald MacLachlan, former General Manager of the Rosetta Royals, now the new GM for the national team (with Daniel Gómez being the new president of the Elejamian Ice Hockey Board, making it the first time since 2005 that the GM and the EIHB president weren't the same person) and a slight modification of their new kit, there's no doubt that everyone's geared up and ready to get out there. However, tragedy struck as Lucas Madgwick fractured his arm in an accident during the off-season; although he will still accompany the team to Hannasea, he won't be on the ice wearing his #9 jersey. Instead, his position as a second-line left-winger will been taken by Stacy Saunders, captain of the Elejamian U-20 team during their fourth-place finish at the 8th World Junior Hockey Championships in Quebec. Saunders, who'll also be replacing Danilo Barajas as an alternate captain, said that, out of respect for the injured Madgwick, he'll take the #29 number instead of his usual #9, which he wears for the Kingston Knights in the QHL and wore during his stint in the Junior team.

Will the Icy Elephants be able to avenge their loss in Norrehavn and take home a second World Cup of Hockey trophy? Or will it end up being another tournament of heartbreak? Only time will tell...

(NB: I'm fully aware I'm not hosting anything. Just think of this as me giving some more info on my national team)

Declan Madgwick Memorial Stadium, Davenport, WYKN
Image

Home to the Davenport Dockers - the most successful team in the ENIHL (Elejamian National Ice Hockey League) - and the national team. Built in 1992 to replace Dockside Stadium, which was eventually demolished in 1995, Davenport Stadium is the largest ice hockey stadium in Elejamie, with a capacity of 18,500. The stadium was originally known as the Davenport Stadium but it also spent a brief spell in the early 2000s as the Rapid Beer Co. Stadium. Eventually, it was renamed the Declan Madgwick Memorial Stadium just in time for the start of the 2015/16 season, in honour of famed politician and diplomat Declan Madgwick (1927-2015).

HomeFiller Arena, Coventry, AVEN
Image

Built in 1989, the HomeFiller Arena is also known as the Coventry Arena, especially in situations where HomeFiller isn't sponsoring the event in question. With a total capacity of 17,000, it is also home to the Coventry Puffins; the backup stadium for the national ice hockey and basketball teams; home to the junior and U-18 ice hockey teams; and home to the Coventry Nets basketball team. It entered a sponsorship deal with furniture store HomeFiller in 2013. The deal is expected to last until 2017.

Choose my box score stats? Y
Give out suspensions? Y (one per match and the longest they can be out is two games. Same goes with injuries)
Give out ejections? Y (see above)
RP my players engaging in fights? Y (see the "Everything else" tab for a list of players that aren't afraid to drop the gloves, as well as a few that prefer to keep them on)
Godmode events? Y (although it might be a good idea to TG me first to see if I'm OK with it)

  • "Keh-reen Mah-loh-tahn"; "Payl Eh-tah-nahr"; "Ah-lah-YEHM Mahn ees-hoh-kee teem".
  • In the event that any of my players interest you and you want to sign them, please tell me which one you want, which club wants them and all the details.
  • Please get back to me with RP info by 10pm BST. Otherwise, I'll go ahead and put my own stuff in.
  • Francisco Solano is the team's main enforcer. So if my team is up against yours and you want to put in a fight, see if you can fit him in somewhere. If he's unavailable because of a line change or him not playing a match, then Lupe, George Lincoln, Carlos Sierra, Paul Morton, Ethan Swinburne, Pael Atener, Mike Keller and Bill Judge (who was Elejamie's main enforcer during WJHC8) can be used instead. The only players that don't fight are Antonio and Pedro Cervantes, Peter Berg, Cerin Meloten, Anatoly Kasputin and Stacy Saunders; Lucas Madgwick's another player who prefers to keep his gloves on but, again, he's out injured for the tournament.
  • Elejamie will play in their alt kit on MD1 and their Round of 16 game (or first Ro16 game in the event that it becomes a best-of series).
  • There is only one birthday during the tournament; Adam Keane will turn 25 on MD5 (which, fortunately, is Elejamie's bye day).
  • It's "Rubio Orosco". Not just "Rubio" and not just "Orosco". See below for why.
  • Pedro Cervantes is Antonio's nephew. Not his brother or his son. Using the traditional Spanish naming custom (father's surname followed by mother's) it's Antonio Cervantes Nakamura and Pedro Moreno Cervantes.
  • Danilo and Felipe Barajas are twin brothers, with Danilo being the oldest by about five minutes. Peter Berg's younger brother George plays in the junior team; however, the two of them aren't related to assistant coach and ice hockey veteran Ron Berg. And the still-currently-injured second forward line left-winger Lucas Madgwick is the son of head coach and Elejamian hockey legend Michael Madgwick.

Tumbran Hockey Team: World Cup of Hockey 31

This was a surprise. Tumbra have no history whatsoever in hockey, and the team being sent to the competition was only due to a crowdfunding program to send the team to Hannasea. The media have already dubbed the team "The Ice Lions" and while they're not hoping for great things in the competition, there is a traditional Tumbran spirit of support and love for the underdogs, and whatever the result, it will be celebrated.

Coach: Mike Rossiter (47)

Rossiter is the brains behind this entire operation - he was the one that began this entire ice hockey scheme to send a team to the World Cup of Hockey, and he's done it...albeit without any government funding. The team have relied on Kickstarter to crowdfund the team to come here, and aren't expecting much this time out, though Rossiter will ensure the team gives their all.

Freedom from government control ensures that Rossiter can send anyone he wants, though, so that includes females - a shock when the team was revealed just a few days ago.

The team only has Rossiter as coach; he could not afford to hire any other staff for any other positions.

All players are strictly amateur, as there is no established hockey league structure in Tumbra.

After a disappointing forst cycle of international hockey, Mercedini will participate in their second World Cup of Hockey being held in Hannasea looking for their first win in WCoH history. This time, they will be ranked joint 56th in the tournament and wil be joined by two hockey titans in Fiscia and Nova Angelicana, while they will be also joined by newcomers and unranked Sjovenia and the unranked hosts Hannasea. They will play their first game against the hosts, which means they could find their first victory in the WCoH against the hosts in their first game.
There will be plenty of anticipation for Mercedini as they enter their second season as a Hockey playing nation and there is great expectation that they will do better than their last outing, finishing bottom of their group with only a draw against fellow unranked side Bonapartium in their final match.
Mercedini will likely be helped out by foreign nations, with Novaya Zemlya taking a chance on brothers and Mercedini's defensive pairing Peter and Ian Pollock. The Mercedinians helped their team Lokomotiv Nezaemy advance to the playoff round and have gained valuable experience from their move to the hockey-mad nation, will that rub off onto the national team?
Many experts and commentators have said that a third place finish in the group seems to be inevitable for the team, but there is a chance for Mercedini to defy the odds and advance to the knockout round for the first time. Taking points from either Ficiscia or Nova Angelicana must be the priority for Mercedini to advance, but they also have to make sure that they don't drop points to the host Hannasea or Sjovenia, which will be two tough things to juggle. We will give you live coverage of all the Mercedinian hockey matches held in Hannasea. Just head to mercedinisportsdaily.co.md for highlights and commentary of the matches.

Postby Northern Sunrise Islands » Wed Aug 24, 2016 3:27 pm

Things had changed. The hockey team hadn't been up to task for quite a while now. Jean McConnery had given up on the sport after her father passed away. She said she wanted to start a new life. The hockey league struggled to maintain relevance as well, business picking up now that the "magic" NSI.baseball group had managed to spread their influence out to hockey as well.
In fact, last season had been heated, not only because it meant promotion and relegation was now a thing; but because for the first time, the title wasn't decided via playoffs. Classics and Currents had faced each other as the Mignon Beart Charmers, one of the originals of the Northern Sunrisian Hockey League days and the Stilwater Sharks, another team from the good old days had a war of sorts against the current day quality teams such as Nordstrand Vilde and Edenia Blaze, both also colony teams.
Usually, this wouldn't be an issue to the colonial teams but the recent seasons made it clear. The future of Northern Sunrisian Hockey was on the colonies. Few teams kept their original rosters, opting to sell them to other sides of the Sunrise or flat out releasing them so that they'd have the money and the space to pick up players from the colonies, specially Sollupgäng, now home of at least fifty percent of the NSI.HOCKEY 1 team's rosters.
On top of this revolution was a rotund, somewhat old gentleman. None really knew his origins besides of an Eastern Sunrisian passport and aside from that, he didn't talk much about his past. He did talk, though.
Oh, boy, did he.

"I don't trust this Blessed guy." noted Bandi Hegedûs as the players gathered for their first national team encounter.
"You sure that's not just your culture saying not to trust any non-North by Northwestern people?" snickered Létourneau. "Besides, he did have the good notion of calling up the players that beat his team to the top last season."
Hao Lan stared daggers at the girl, before looking back at his hockey stick.
Mortiise, without actually seeing the reaction, decided to hold back the girl's spirits. "We are a single team now. Any stunts and you will be kicked out."
"Sheeesh." Létourneau sighed afterwards. "How old are you again? C'mon, Israphel. Joke's for joke's sake."
The room kept silent as Létourneau waited, her hand hanging.
She sighed once more. "No fun."
"Well, sure his past is a bit... hidden." Suzuka said, smiling. "But he did promise we'd do well this time!"

The door opened, revealing the Sunrisian NT's new coach.
"Hello." said the bearded man. "I'm sorry for my delay, for I had to solve some matters beforehand."
"Hey, boss." said Tyson Sharp, otherwise quiet. His Stilwater Sharks team-mates also chose to greet him with nods and waves.
"...Is that all the greetings I get?" He stared around the room. "I do believe we are all playing for the same country, should we remain quiet?"
"You're rather sketchy, sir." said Hegedûs, looking up to him. "I think we'd rather know where exactly you come from."
"Don't ask!" Tyson yelled, covering his ears as Briain gasped for air.
"Why?" asked Létourneau, being one of the few to keep her ears uncovered.
"WHAT IS A PLACE? NOTHING BUT A PILE OF LAND, WHERE HUMANS LIE AT? A RED BALL OVER A GREEN WALL? A THING WHERE PLANES LAND AT? DONCASTER? IF ALL THESE ANSWERS CAN FIT SUCH A DESCRIPTION, WHY WOULD YOU NEED ME TO EXPLAIN TO ONE SUCH AS YOURSELF WHERE DO I COME FROM?! IS IT PREPONDERANT FOR YOU TO KNOW WHERE THIS MAN CAME FROM SO THAT YOU CAN SLIDE ACROSS A POOL OF FROZEN WATER WHILE TRYING NOT TO GET SMASHED BY SOME MORON FROM A BACKWATERS DICTATORSHIP ACROSS THE SEA? "Sir, I think you got them deaf for an hour." Tyson said, as the ones that took the clue and covered their ears before were now uncovering their own ears.
"...Drats. Do you reckon your cousin still makes those herbs for ear problems?"
"I don't know, but those things were pretty expensive, get a hold of yourself."
"Sorry, Tyler."

Hockey is the national sport of Novaya Zemlya and the only sport that is played professionally in the country. This tournament will be Novaya Zemlya's seventh WCoH. The team's most notable achievement was in WCoH 27 when they made it to the semifinals - a feat they never have been able to repeat since. After two straight QF exits in WCoH 29 and 30, Novozemlyan hockey fans are getting tired of excuses and demand medals. Is this the year?

Unfortunately, some of the Novozemlyan core players are getting up there in age. Long-time captain and offensive leader Krasimir Yerokhin is coming off a poor season in the NZEL and is undoubtedly showing signs of age. Winger Mikhail Spiridonov, defensive stud Enver Anoshkin and goaltending legend Iosif Bezukladnikov are other players who are perhaps past their prime.
On the other hand, NZEL Rookie of the Year Valeri Kalagin is on the roster and many hope that he can become the new Yerokhin. Foma Khabalov and Zak Myshkin are other young players who will need to take another step if the Novozemlyans are to go anywhere.

Formerly known as a defensive minded coach, it is expected that Bogdan Bobr will try to play a more offensive, skill-based brand of hockey these days. The Novozemlyans generally play a clean game. Fighting is not really a part of Novozemlyan hockey culture. (The occasional spearing, two-handed slash or sucker punch however, are - but Bobr generally keeps his team on a short leash.)

Gregoryisgodistan Out For Revenge at WCoH 31

After their worst finish in history at World Cup of Hockey 30 in Norrehavn, the beloved Ice Slaves of Gregoryisgodistan are out for revenge at World Cup of Hockey 31, looking to hoist the trophy for the third time in their history but the first time since World Cup of Hockey 27, which our Most Glorious and Holy Nation co-hosted with Ko-oren. We hoisted the trophy on home ice, and while we can't do the same here, the Ice Slaves are looking to win anyway.

All the Enemy Crushers have gained weight to better crush, the Pervert Chasers have sharpened their knives, and the Ice Slaves are ready to win for the first time in what seems like forever.

In a bizarre twist, the hosts Hannasea have elected to name the groups with weird names rather than give them letters or numbers. Gregoryisgodistan will be in the Guild of Mercers group, along with Nephara, Ilyseum, Tumbra, and Beaverriver. The squad will open with Tumbra, followed by Beaverriver, Nephara, Ilyseum, and then the dreaded last matchday bye. In another shocking twist, the knockout stage will be single elimination. This means that every game in that round will be do or die for the Ice Slaves and could lead to shocking results. Earlier, our reporter spoke with starting goaltender and Enemy Crusher-in Chief Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel. Here's what was said.

Reporter: So, Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel, it's only three days until your team takes on Tumbra to open the World Cup of Hockey. Do you think you can win it this time?

Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel: Of course we can, and of course we will. We have Lord Almighty Gregory on our side, we have a ton of brave, noble Enemy Crushers, myself included, and we will crush our opponents, literally and figuratively. By the way, did you ever notice that if you literally have a ton of Enemy Crushers, then you really only have two or three Enemy Crushers? But we figuratively have a ton of Enemy Crushers, and literally have a lot more than that. But I digress. We will crush the Tumblers of Tumbra, perhaps literally but certainly figuratively. We will skin the hides of the Beaverriver Beavers, crush them, and throw them in the river. We will crush the Nephromancers of Nephara and the Ilyseum fools who claim to be from the Realm of the Gods but are really from the Realm of the False Gods since only Lord Almighty Gregory is God and he does not live there. But again, I digress. The bottom line is that we will win.

R: And just how many enemies will you crush?

EC: Maybe tens, maybe hundreds, maybe thousands. You'll see. And we have some other surprises in store as well for when we win. And we will win. Oh yes we will.

R: Several of your family members were killed playing hockey for Gregoryisgodistan while they were crushing enemies. Are you looking to avenge their deaths?

EC: Of course. Revenge is always on our mind, and every crush I make is dedicated to my family who died serving our Most Glorious and Holy Nation, and of course to Lord Almighty Gregory as well.

R: Speaking of revenge, how much does that shocking early exit in Norrehavn still sting?

EC: You know it hurts a lot, and we will be out to get our sweet revenge this time. We are going 8-0 and we are winning the championship, bringing back the trophy where it belongs once and for all. And it will stay here forever because from now on, we are winning every future World Cup of Hockey tournament we compete in.

R: Word on the street is you have a special announcement about Nephara. Would you like to make it?

EC: Certainly. I have great news from Lord Almighty Gregory, and he has given me the honor of reading it to you. Effective immediately, Nephara has been added to our Enemy List because we don't like them. We never liked them, but we never got a chance to add them to our Enemy List. But now we are adding them to our Enemy List because we can. The Nephromancers are horrible people who fail to accept Lord Almighty Gregory as their Lord and Master. They have allowed other Esportivan nations to terrorize us for who we are and claims to represent all of Esportiva at the World Assembly. But most of Esportiva wants us dead, because they feel threatened by the One True Lord, so by extension the Nephromancers must be evil. Also, they eat their own babies, they sacrifice goats to false Gods then drink the blood, they burn poop in the street, they fart 583 times a day on average, they drive like maniacs at an average speed of 631 mph, they stab ferrets, they shoot llamas, they shriek at all hours of the night and day, they rape dead bodies, they burn women alive for singing about potatoes, they pillage the citizens, they dance with llamas, they call people sheeple, and they show an unhealthy distaste for prune juice and gruel. All of this is true and is most certainly not government propaganda. And that is most certainly not a suspiciously specific denial. Nor is that. Or that. Or that. Or that. Or that. [Editor's note: Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel went on saying "or that" for three hours, but we have space limitations so we won't include all of that.]

R: Ok, sir, please don't crush me for interrupting, but we get it. The government would never lie to the people. We're not Nephara's government, after all.

EC: How dare you interrupt me, a Brave Noble Enemy Crusher? Prepare to be crushed!

[Editor's Note: Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel then crushed the reporter to death, so he was unable to complete the interview or write the remainder of the article.]

Esparmuran is a medium sized, sparsely-populated freezing wasteland. Snow and ice cover the country 24/7, so one of the only outdoor recreational activities one can do in such almost-inhospitable weather is ice-hockey.

The Espar National Ice Hockey Team will participate in it's eight World Cup of Hockey. In the historic WCoH 30, Esparmuran, despite losing their captain Orrell Beake, won all of their games in the group stage for the second time in a row, before being defeated by the comeback kids of Kaboomlandia in the quarterfinals. Here in the 31st, the team has gone through very little change, but head coach Jimi Stack doesn't believe change is necessary with the team he has now. Will Esparmuran make it through the quarterfinals for once? Could they actually go on to win gold? Only time will tell.

Esparmuran has no nickname for it's team. They're boring like that.
Also, because of Esparmuran's tiny population, expect only 10 or so Espar fans in the stands. That said, don't kill any of them (you know who you are).

INJURED:
#45 Haven Clausen, #24 Paul Lauritsen, #13 Lennox School, #48 Ole Henriksen
Erik Morris has returned from the WCoH 27 roster.

Head Coach Jimi Stack will return for the sixth time.
Esparmuran will play a fast-paced, high-scoring game. The team trainers have given instructions for always putting offence first. Because of this, expect all five players on the ice to contribute offensively and shoot from every angle, filling up the SOG. Orrell Beake, Bailey Royston and Blaine Blackwood are the main players on the team to look out for. Orrell Beake is getting old, but he's still is one of the best players in the WCoH, with 116 points (78G) in 54 WCoH games. Bailey Royston is a great playmaker and will be able to fight off opponents with his world-class puck-handling. Blackwood is an agile and quick player who will be able to contribute both offensively and defensively.

The Letwinist States' Union Hockey Team
“Fliederbären”

A population spending most of its time in sub-zero temperatures, ice hockey is a popular sport in the northern states of the Union. Here, it is common for even very little children to slide onto a frozen lake and play what can easily be described as the most popular sport of the north, with millions viewers following not only the national but also select regional championships all over the Obli peninsula.
Named after the national animal of the council republic, the team is meant to embody the aspects of the sport mirrored in the “feather-bellied polar bear”: precision, team action and aggressive contact as a tactic.

Manager: Feliksas Pakulnis

Coach: Petteri Korpela

Captain: Eric Tactenav

Alternate Captains: Marton Juglivi, Titas Bays

1st Defence Line:
#12 Kim Imintsket
#21Thore Halfilei

2nd Defence Line:
#23 Mikko Jaakola
#32 Eric Ijnansängen

3rd Defence Line:
#34 Vilhi Nikkilä
#43 Domniktas Timinar

1st Attack Line
#2 Eric Tactenav
#16 Fredrijk Haamenoop
#24 Alf Emmersi

2nd Attack Line:
#3 Marton Juglivi
#11 Tollmi Zjinkdi
#39 Tem Gihertsi

3rd Attack Line:
#4 Titas Banys
#19 Benediktas Hemilav
#41 Sammi Simonen

Goalkeepers:
#1 Jakip Halivlei
#10 Hannes Matura

Playstyle:
There will be a solid defence, possibly slowing the game a little. An attack only ever comes in formation and not one single player dashing forward to score. This would mean that the entire formation moves down the length of the stadium, the defence often the mid's helpers while forward players spend a lot of time blocking off opponents.

A Glimpse at the ULS

Interviewer: “...and on the occasion of the release of the official cadre going to Hannasea for the 31st World Cup of Hockey, we have here with us comrade Petteri Korpela, our team's coach. Welcome.”
Korpela: “Thank you for having me, it is a pleasure.”
- “All right. We are here in the pre-cup training camp in Tankelim, as you are getting ready to leave. Are you well prepared?”
- “I would certainly say so. Our team bus is already on its way and will be ready to pick us up at the airport, meanwhile, our boys are as fit as they ever were. We have been polishing our game for the last weeks here and I am very confident that we will come home with grand achievements.”
- “Neither are you the only one. News magazines have already documented the team's potential and everyone is eagerly awaiting the championships, the first we ever participated in. This must be a lot of pressure, how do you and the players cope?”
- “I like to think of it more as anticipation than actual pressure. Everyone knows that we have absolutely no experience what tournaments of such size and prestige are concerned and I believe that all we need to do is do our best. That, at least, I can 100 percent promise we will do however. We are incredibly proud to be a part of this and we cannot thank the organisers and of course our hosts enough. This is a chance we intend to make the best of.”
- “Well, we will be urging you on in Hannasea and at home. We know that there will be large viewing areas all over the country, which is completely new and has not been seen before. What do you think is sparking this enthusiasm?”
- “That is easy. For the first time since the birth of the Union, we are actually participating in something this big and amazing. This is a grand opportunity and everyone wants to be part of that. I even see it with the team. The guys have greatly improved their team dynamics and are a lot closer, knowing that they are given this chance to represent our nation on an international stage. Nobody would want to miss that.”
- “Quite the large international stage indeed; millions upon millions will be watching, not just from the ULS. What sort of a feeling is that, knowing that the world is looking at you?”
- “Are we nervous? Yes. Nonetheless, we will make the best of it and I am positive that, although people may have to check where we are from a few times, we will be remembered by the viewers in the end.”
- “Always positive, that is the spirit of the Union these days too. But tell me, what if you are caught saying or doing something you would rather not have the world know?”
- “In our smaller leagues, we do not have the problem in the dimensions of the WCoH but here we will be followed by cameras day and night. There will be no private time until locked into our hotel rooms. It will be weird at first but we need to simply realise that, at least for the time being, we are subjects of public interest and need to be weary of our actions. We do not want the wrong light shining on the Union because something is let slip or one is not prepared for the camera.”
- “Sounds very exciting. Thank your so much for your time, it has been very informative, we will be switching to comrade Helen Erasmusev, who is currently with our team's captain, Eric Tactenav.”

Interviewer 2: “Yes, thank you. Eric, thank you for taking the time to be here and to talk about the championships you must be so eager to attend.”
Tactenav: “As always, I am delighted to be here. The last days have been very tiring, as we have been busy with some last minute training but I absolutely cannot wait to have the cup start.”
- “What would this training consist of?”
- “We have been pushing ourselves to the limit practically every day. We have been focusing especially on agility and cooperation. The lines need to be perfectly in shape and their players used to playing with each other. An important aspect is trust here and our training does come with an additional psychological unit as well.”
- “Very interesting, but do you think it will be enough to go up against the best of the best when the cup starts?”
- “That we will know only when it is too late.”
- “True...”
- “Seriously though, I believe in our potential and with a bit of luck, I think we can leave a memorable impression and show off some of our Obli techniques, maybe even grab a place on the leaderboards once we are at it.”
- “There is and will be even more media attention, I am aware that this is something the team wants to take advantage of...”
- “That is correct. We will be promoting the campaign of the Letwinist States Hockey Association for fairness and inclusion in hockey but also sports in general. We want to stand tall against racism and also homophobia.”
- “Which must be an important topic for you, an openly homosexual guy.”
- “It is. Although the problem is barely existent in the Union, where I would say we struggle more with racism than anything else, I feel it is necessary to carry the campaign out into the greater world. We can help people around the globe lead a more enjoyable life so we ought to go for it.”
- “And how will you be promoting this campaign?”
- “As a part of our gear, we will be wearing banners calling for respect, inclusion, integration. I will also be taking my husband to show that it is possible to lead a normal and happy life as a gay man.”
- “Even play hockey.”
- “Even play hockey or wrestle or really do what you dream about doing, really.”
- “That is a very commendable cause, one the Obli Broadcasting Service is also engaged in and will be actively promoting. Back to the game itself however. Do you have a general tactic?”
- “A general tactic? That would have to be to score goals in order to win. No, we do not. We took a look at some recordings of teams we will be facing playing and hope to have a rather passable tactic tailored for their weaknesses. If all else fails, we have few standard Obli tricks up our sleeves nonetheless, do not worry about that.”
- “Sounds really great. We will be following the developments with interest. Have a relaxing flight and good luck in Hannasea!”
- “Thank you very much.”
- “Now off we go to comrade Degan Himalhäs, who will be analysing our cadre for the World Cup of Hockey and take a look at the group we will be facing off against. Over to you.”
