Currently it is the year 2016, Two years ago an event happened that shook the long stagnant and dying magical world. Something woke up, and with it magic came back to the world in full force. See, while magic and the races that were made by it and of it, once existed But after humanity came and usurped them throughout a series of bloody wars, Magic and the races that used it all but disappeared. The Last truly powerful magical being was one known in human history as Vlad Tepes Dracula, or Vlad the Impaler. He was actually a vampire, one of the last powerful ones, like any of the magical beings there were still a handful left, though they were weak and secluded. He died in a battle with several Powerful human groups of the time, as he and his castle fell, so did one of the few remaining strongholds of Magical beings.

As the few still existing magical races died out or left the view of the few human groups that tracked them, magic started to as well, and it did so at a more rapid pace than it had been. Humanity gained the power to use magic from the other beings, and through interbreeding with the other races. Eventually instead of being Halfbreeds or hybrids, the humans gained usage of magic, though the magical bloodlines are rare enough especially nowadays. With the event Magic was not the only thing that is back in this world of ours. With magic Far older things than the infant that is humanity have been brought back into this world. Vampires as well as other notable supernatural races have started to appear back into the world more noticeably.

This prompted the creation of a Task force of sorts by the Magical Council, which is made of the influential magical families in the world. The Task was was named the Inquisition, tough it is less ominous than its namesake. They were not the only group that formed, others of more sinister natures awoke. One exception was a building called the Museum, it was an ancient Artefact that was tasked with the purpose of gathering other Artefacts that could pose a threat to the world in human hands or the hands of the other races. As magic had faded, it had grown weaker, until it was forced into a hibernation state where it slept until recently.


Hello and Welcome to Of Artefacts and Antiquities, this is a Urban Fantasy Character rp. Though it is a Character Rp, Factions are present, but they take a lesser role than the characters. This will take place in and around London, England but your characters can be from anywhere in the world. The rp will also move beyond England as the Plot dictates. While this will be a largely serious toned rp, there will also be humorous elements in it.

1. No God modding Metagaming, or anything of the same ilk.
2. OP's word is law, as is the Co-OP's, you will get a max of 3 warnings and upn the third your character will eb killed and you will be booted from the rp.
3. No One liners, at least 3-5 sentences if not more.
4. Keep the OOC out of the IC
5. Dont be a dick, Though your character can act however.
6. Limit of Three Playable Characters, though Co-OP's can have a bit more, any NPCs must be relevant to the story and the plot.
7. No OP characters, If i or the Co-Ops find the character to be OP we will declare a nerf for it.
8. There are exceptions to nearly all rules, so do not quote them as being set in stone if i or a Co-OP get onto you.
These rules are not set in stone and more may be added or the existing ones tweaked.

So there will be a bit of a Hierarchy in the rp. Basically I am at the top, followed by the Co-OP's etc.

Playable Factions


The Magical Council: A council of the most influential and powerful Magical humans, they with the assistance of the Clockwork Council keep magic and the Supernatural from ordinary humans as much as they can. They have mandates and precepts to keep the magical world hidden, but the Task Force of the council is left with a little leeway concerning the rules.

The Clockwork Council: a Council formed by the most powerful supernatural beings, to keep the growing supernatural community in check.

You cant rp as a councilor (some exceptions but can be related by being with the council.)

The Inquisition: a Task Force made of people "loyal" to the Two Councils.

The Museum: a Mysterious entity that is neutral being both evil and good, that takes Dangerous artifacts and occasionally beings and hides them from those that would or could abuse them. All of its employees have one thing in common, they have broken the Councils Mandates either by accident or on purpose, in return for shelter they serve the Museum. Either that or they have been affected in one way or the other and seek to make sure what happened to them never happens to others.
Non Playable

The Abberrant ones: a Group of monstrously powerful and malicious supernatural beings. But their power was their downfall. They required magic more than the other beings and few currently exist, others left this world. But with the return of magic, they have returned as well, and as the Councils fruitlessly pursue peace they grow stronger. (Perhaps eventually caharacters will be allowed to have ties to this faction, though not yet.)

Magic is a miraculous thing to say the least, but it is not without cost. Even for the Supernatural magical beings magic will take its toll, the more a being uses magic the more it will physically and mentally effect them. The effects can be recovered from over time, but should someone overdraft their amgic, trying to preform a feat beyond them, their magic may be permanently effected or even lose the ability to use magic all together.

Humans being what they are, can only use magic if they Possess a Bloodline, there are exceptions though. Humans can use magic through Artifacts or they can gain magic through a Pact with a powerful beings. Pacts usually don't end up well for the human side of the bargain. Regardless, non bloodline magic is costly for those who use it. The younger a human is when their magic awakes the more powerful their magic is, but their magic will also be much harder to control. All human Mages have magical shields that can protect them.

They are unique to every human mage, and are powered by the Magical power of the Mage. There are two types of shields one is physical, allowing one to block solid objects such as bullets or the like, the other is elemental, that can block elemental attacks. These shields though useful are not all powerful, just as the more a mage uses magic it tires them the more damage their shield takes the faster they become fatigued. Should the shield be destroyed the mage may fall unconscious or into a coma unless experienced or powerful enough. The Bloodline of a mage will also affect their shield, for example a fire Mage's shield could absorb natural and possibly magical fire and flames.

As was detailed loosely before, making a Pact or a Contract with a powerful being can allow a human to gain magical power. The human can either be granted pure magical power, as in a form of elemental manipulation and the like or the human can gain some characteristics of the being they formed a Pact or a Contract with. Pacts and Contracts are considered taboo because most bagains do not end well for the human part of the contract nor for humanity in general. This is not always the case however, sometimes the being contracted could be benovelent. That however sadly enough is rather rare, as most humans desperate enough to perform the required ritual draw rather unsavory and malevolent beings to them.

The term Supernatural, is used in place of monster or creature when referring to beings of Magical or supernatural origins. Once nearly every imaginable monster written or talked about existed, there was a time when Dragons ruled the skies and Elves and Orcs, and other such beings ruled the earth, when humans cropped up things changed. Very few of the Older Supernaturals still exist, many either left this realm or entered a hibernation state to attempt to survive. See while many have barely been able to live to see magic being reborn, others weren't afforded that chance. many of the Supernatural races were so dependent on magic or that it was so a part of them that when it disappeared they started dying or panicking in droves.

There exist two types of beings that are unique in that the Fall of Magic affected their power little, but they still changed none the less. They are Called Aspects and Concepts, and were once thought to be gods, but are actually the embodiemnts of things such as War, Treachery, business or Love, among other things. They are powerful beings usually of ancient origin, they represent a concept or an aspect. Examples of a Concept would be Business or War, though Aspects and concepts are similar, Aspects can pass on their mantle, Concepts cannot, they are eternal, as long as what they represent exists. The 7 sins and the 7 virtues would be Aspects, though there are other examples those are the most notable, Aspects are based off man made concepts usually. Aspects and Concepts can be created for NPC purposes but are just that Non Playable.

Bloodlines are what determines what magic a human can use, it directly relates to any supernatural blood in their veins. When supernatural beings mate with humans there are three possible results, a Pure supernatural being born, a human-Supernatural hybrid, or a Human with powerful magical abilities related to the Supernatural. It is only from the second or third results that a Human magical Bloodline is established. The powers of the Bloodline are relatively set in stone, so to speak, a Descendant of a Phoenix, for example will have strong general fire, or flight related abilities, but that can change. If someone with the Bloodline of a Fire elemental or Dragon would marry into the family that Possessed the Phoenix bloodline, the children of the union, and their descendants, the Fire abilities would be strengthened, and new abilities would perhaps develop.

This discovery has, in the past, led to arranged marriages to strengthen a Bloodline or develop new ones, though it died down, with the Rebirth of Magic, the practice has started to pick up again. Due to the Stagnation of magic, the abilities of many of the magical families had diminished greatly. As a result the Families had gotten smaller, now however things have changed. Since the Rebirth, and the strengthening and surfacing of Bloodlines with it unions have been made between families to strengthen their future generations. This in turn has led to a peace of sorts between all the Families, for now atleast, there is a still a rivalry though. the Families are divided in the same way the Bloodlines are. Elemental, Legacy, Seasonal/Conceptual, and Divine. Though mostly the first two as few Families solely of the last two Bloodlines exist anymore. The Bloodlines are as detailed below:

Elemental Bloodline: Elemental Bloodlines usually have the blood of powerful elemental beings contained in it. Examples would be Elementals of all types or Supernatural Beings with an Elemental nature, (though they may not be an elemental or have only power related to their element), examples of the latter would be Fire Dragons, Phoenixes, or similar beings. Although rare an inheritor of an Elemental Bloodline may contain some Legacy Bloodline characteristics.

Legacy Bloodline: Legacy Bloodlines are usually more physical or cerebral in nature than the other Bloodlines. They would have enhanced strength, or flight, or even eb able to take on their Ancestors form or a facsimile at least. Some may have an elemental or Divine Bloodline Characteristic present in their ability. Examples would be descendants of normal Dragons or Minotaurs, perhaps even sirens or other similar beings.

Seasonal/Conceptual Bloodline: Extremely rare to find pure Bloodlines for, but Seasonal/Conceptual Bloodlines deals with beings whose bloodline granted humans control over things that arent mere elements or the like. They have control over much broader things like Heat or Cold, Winter or Summer, Death or perhaps even Time. They are extremely, extremely powerful, though the abilities are taxing. Most Elemental Bloodlines have a Trace of these in them, as long ago, the Elemental Families sought unions with those whose Bloodlines would strengthen their own, as a result these bloodlines are now nearly extinct if not totally so.

Divine/Sacred Bloodline: Like the Seasonal/Conceptual Bloodlines these are rare, but for a different reason. They are more like a mutation of sorts that appears rather than a seperate Bloodline now. They possessed a powerful variant of one of the other Bloodlines, that were similar yet different. Usually they were inherited from beings thought to be Holy or revered as deities. most holders of this Bloodline Perished with Dracula so long ago.

Wild Bloodline: More info to be added, for now you just have to know, these Bloodlines and those who inherit them are considered evil. The beings that fathered these Bloodlines were called Demons or Deva, or other similar things.

Locations of Note

More locations will be added as they are visited Ic, but below are the few starting locations i am giving. More will be added of course.

Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe: An innocuous enough looking shop, that actually holds one of the few surface entrances to the Museum. It is located in PEckham, which is an area in south east London, while it is considered by many to be a good place to live, it also has large crime issues. The Shoppe is located in an obscure alleyway of sorts, thus limiting the mundane visitors they get.

Council Chambers: The chambers of both the magical council and the Clockwork Council are located underneath the Palace of Westminster, which contains the Houses of Parliament. It is located in Central London along the Northern bank of the Thames river.

Magic Tools: Magical items of weaker power, usually based off an Artefact or Antiquity. They are often mass produced, and very rarely are there powerful ones. They can be used by non magical humans, but there is a cost, that some may consider too great. They can become Artefacts through a complicated and costly ritual that involves absorbing magical items and things related to the Tool.

Artefacts: Items of a magical origin, made for a specific purpose most are notable items of myth and legend. Excalibur, Caliburn, Clarent, The Gae Bolg, other similar items, most are weapons or other items of war.

Antiquities: Items that were once normal, but their owners had magic and the items were unknowingly imbued, and they have awoken since magic has came back in the world. For example Charles Dickens tobacco pipe, see Charles Dickens wasn't entirely human, and he could see and hear spirits and the dead. His pipe got imbued with that power, but it can cause those not attuned to death to go insane, and those attuned to it can perhaps influence or control the spirits that the Pipe draws to it.

Limiting Cuffs: a Set of metal handcuffs created to nullify the ability for the being wearing them to use magic. However they are only as strong as the magic that activated them. Meaning if the being is so much stronger magically than the person who activated the Tool, them they are useless. They were originally created for an English lord to ‘play’ with one of his consorts without her magic killing him. They can also Prevent the Change of Werewolves and other similar beings.

Shock Stick: A simple metal rod that has much the same effect as a Taser, but the voltage can be increased with the more magic that is poured into them. There are two types one type depends on the wielders magic and shocks non magical beings that try to use it, the other has a set amount of magic within and can shoot blasts of electricity at the cost of the energy contained in it. The later while less taxing can only be refilled by a special apparatus or those with the right bloodline.

Elemental Cudgels: Affectionately called Beatsticks by those that first used them. They were created after the Shock Stick, but hold much the same purpose. They act in a similar manner to staffs of most fantasy worlds slightly enhance the users elemental magic, and if the person is powerful enough they can change the shape and appearance of the Cudgel to whatever they prefer. While mass produced the high quality ones are rare to see.

Shifting Brooch: It is a pin or charm like item, rather small but varied in appearance, they allow someone to change their appearance. There are limitations however The new appearance will still have similarities to the original. Additionally the scent and magical signature of the person remain largely the same. There are very few true shape shifters in the world, thus the magic behind the item is flawed. Some versions can allow Non-Humans to change their features only slightly.

Philosophers Stone: Once this was commonly made and used during the Height of Magic, but now days they are extremely rare. They can extend ones life forcibly, but at a cost, to both the stone adn the user. They can also turn base metals into gold or Silver, and other similar metals. They are a costly thing to make, but the process was long ago lost. Recently imperfect ones have been seen occasionally.

Nazar: Of Turkish origin they protect the wearer from minor curses, though can be more powerful if certain conditions are met. Many of these are actually fake, but can be easily found in the home region. Rarely real ones can be found in the Middle East and parts of Europe.

Omamori:Provides luck and possible protection of sorts, they were originally created by Shinto priests and Buddhists. Recently they have been seen in many places around the world, but they have started to regain their original power and use.

Mandates


1. No magic in public unless as a last resort, or if it can be passed off as an illusion or sleight of hand.
2. If your true form is not closely human, you must never reveal your true form in public, some exceptions are allowed though the context is determined by the Council.
3. You may only tell one Human what you are, with conditions:
3.a if and only if the human you told already knew about the Secret.
3.b Or if you are mated to a human and the told is a relative of your mate.
3.c if the human reveals the Secret, You the human and any Told, will be executed.

Cackle/Jordslag- helped me flesh out how magic will work as well as some for the history of the World. Also helped come up with the names for the Clockwork Council, and the Abberant Ones.

New Grestin- Helped with the Banner as well as contributed to the Lore a bit.

Aghrabia- contributed the most by far in the way of possible Plot ideas, Artifacts and Magic Tools.

Age: 48
Appearance: Image
Personality: Very closed off and buissnesslike to strangers, Halfdan is very friendly to those he considers friends and often times will help those who ask. He is biased to non magics helping in magical affairs, due to house Dawnbringer's long hatred to non magics. He is also very through in ensuring his victories, making sure that there is no room for recovery before he lays the final blow.
Affiliation: The Magical Council
Bloodline: Diluted Divine, bordering on elemental. He is of Dawnbringer, descended from Freyja,
Abilities: Divine Light: Halfdan is the only current Dawnbringer to wield the Divine Light for which his family is renowned. He can use this for various purposes, most often shooting beams into his enemies, or healing people.
Frost Immunity: Due to his time searching for Gram within the Dawnbringer crypts, Halfdans innert magical abilities have built up his own immunity to the cold.
Weaknesses: His beams can be countered by any other type of magic, IE: harry potter duel, and his healing cannot reattach anything, nor is it very effective on internal injuries. His cold immunity only goes so far as well.
Skills: Fighting Skills: Halfdan is well versed in both magic and sword combat, along with hand to hand, should need come to it.
Mastery of hunting: as a favored pasttime, Halfdan is very good at hunting, almost to a magical sense. Not quite though.
Equipment: A Shifting Brooch and an Omamori

Personality: Lucian means well, although he often comes off as shady and intimidating. To the mortal world, he's just your average Romanian man who lives in a centuries old castle. He can't really help that if he draws his lineage from a bunch of pale, blood-sucking supernaturals that thrive in the night. Some may consider him a gentleman, like his father, although he is a bit arrogant and pretentious. Despite his arrogance, he keeps the full extent of his abilities hidden from others, and all of them to the mortal world, and there are some that he wasn't even uncovered yet.
Affiliation: He and the rest of his family try to come to good terms with the Magical Council, due to the Council's lack of trust in the Noaptes due to their supposed lineage.
Bloodline: Divine, claiming descent from Dracula.
Abilities:

Enhances Strength, Agility, Stamina, and Resilience.

Darkness manipulation:
-Can extend and shorten shadows
-Can decrease the amount of light in a small area/room.
-Can "melt" into shadows or dark areas, and can travel through them.

Weather Manipulation:
-Can summon and manipulate mist an fog
-Can slightly control the wind

Shapeshifting:
-Can transform into a bat

Weaknesses: His powers are greatly weakened during the day, his shapeshifting and enhanced strength, agility, stamina, and resilience vanishing completely.
Skills: Besides being a powerful mage, Lucian is also an expert swordsman, and an excellent tailor.
Equipment: A rapier which we can summon at will, and a Nazar

Name: Theodore "Theo" Carver
Race: unknown though he was bit by a vampire before he became whatever he is.
Age: 22
Appearance: TBD
Personality: Mostly kind, and is a bit shy, he does however have an anger problem on occasion and vastly changes. Is mostly quiet.
Affiliation: The Museum
Backstory: When growing up he was absolutely normal, he had no knowledge of magic or monsters, it was peaceful. He was orphaned shortly after birth, but was taken in by a kind couple who lived in the outskirts of Chicago, Mary and James Carver. They had been married for many years but Mary had been found barren after several miscarriages. Mary had worked in the Maternity ward at a Chicago hospital and took him in. As he grew up he was revealed to be non exceptional in nearly every way except for his build. As he grew up he was a lanky child but his build showed promised that should he fill out he would be an amazingly built individual.

He was average in nearly every way as he grew up aside from his build. Though average he was able to get into a decent college when he was 17 and things were starting to improve for him. Unfortunately Fate is a fickle mistress and had different plans for him, His magic had started to awaken though he didnt know that yet. He started dating a girl near the end of his senior year, she had started there recently. It was on their third date when it happened, she bit him and as she drained him he fell unconscious. When he woke he was somewhere in England, what woke him was the sounds of fighting. A squad from the Council had been tracking the vampire for a while. After they killed her the squad searched the place and found him and several others, apparently the Vampire was trying to start a coven or nest as groups of vampires were called in the various lores.

The other captives were let go as most had been unconscious since they had been taken, he was the only one she had bitten. One of the members a male pointed a gun at him and said " Sorry kid you just were unlucky." as the gun fired and the bullet hit him he blacked out. When he awoke he was in an unknown alleyway and was covered in blood. He does not know what happened but since that night even until now whenever he is in any Council controlled areas they come after him. HE has mostly been staying in the White chapel district of London, Although it has changed greatly since the times of Jack the Ripper it is still a rarely traveled area. Recently he received a mysterious invite and decided to accept it in the hopes it would be better for him.
Abilities: Enhanced strength, speed, senses, Cold Manipulation/Empowerment, lunar empowerment, Night Manipulation/Empowerment. There are others, the limits and the like will be displayed in the IC.
Weaknesses: Silver,as with many supernatural, he is slightly weaker in sunlight but it doesnt hurt him. He has little control over the magical aspect of his abilities. His presence is very easily detected by trained people or by most monsters, it just stands out.
Skills: Good fighter, he is very intuitive and has good instincts.
Equipment: None, though he does carry a Snowflake pendant eclipsed by a crescent moon, it was from his birth mother.

About that, would the Messer family be evil by default due to their demonic bloodline, or regular humans with a slight tendency to be evil, or simply just regular guys and gals?

Also, will you list/link to the accepted artefacts, or will they be revealed in the IC?

They will be linked as revealed in the IC, family Held Artefacts are different.

As for the Messer family, that would be up to you, what do you want the person to be with?

Seeing as how the bloodline is fresh so to speak there would be demonic tendencies perhaps.

I think a combo between alternative two and three. Regular humans, but with a demonic nature. Though not always outright evil, more that they are more inclined to behaviour that while also very human isn't seen as virtues, such as greed, selfishness, anger, lust, etc. The seven deadly sins would basically be a family sport, but they would of course also be just as capable to do good deeds and act out of genuine kindness. Likeable jerkbags basically.

I imagine that since they're a young family they're not yet part of either the Councils or the Museum yet. In the outskirts of them maybe. I suppose some of the older bloodlines would look at them with a similar disdain to how old rich families view new rich families.
