International Basketball Championships 21 (IC Thread)

Postby The Royal Kingdom of Quebec » Tue Jul 12, 2016 6:29 pm

Welcome to the 21st International Basketball Championships!

Dear 48 nations, hundreds of players, millions of fans and haters. Welcome to the Multiverse's most storied, historic basketball competition here, live in Royal Kingdom of Quebec and Drawkland. The competition brings us forward to two hardcore, passionate nations of sports and ultras, as 48 nations look to prepare themselves ahead of their battle for glory, victory and achievement. Will Saint Kanye, the last year's surprising champion, come back and defend the cup? Or will it be your nation who races against insurmountable odds to clench the trophy before your eyes and nation cheering?

Of course, the best way to increase your team's chances of success is to post a roster and regular roleplays. If you are unsure what these should look like, look at others' in this thread and read the Guide to Sports Roleplaying.

DRAWKLAND

I will be scorinating groups A-D, but IC'ly, Groups E-H will be held in Drawkland.

OVERVIEW
Drawkland is a nation upon the planet of Sonnel, which is mainly notable for its dominance over the planet, economically, militarily, and culturally. It's a nation of several billion people, as it encompasses an entire continent's land area. Its technology is extremely advanced, having avid space travel and holographic projections. Accommodations for all visitors are high-class, as a lot of the nation is centered around tourism. In essence, there's no way you could get bored in Drawkland. There's so much to do! Also, I've run out of buzzword phrases to spit out. Also, we pirated the language software those Cosumarites use, so there's no problem with language barriers either!

CITIES and STADIUMS
For groups E-H, all games will be held in Drawkland in one of these 4 cities, which are all situated in different stadiums. Group E is held in Drawk City, Group F in Metropolon, Group G in Sadeg, and Group H in Corinth City - the first city not in Iarocavet to host a major competition (even though there hasn't been much hosting to date anyway). Each city will feature 2 stadiums, and the 2 legs of the double round robin will be held in the different stadiums (except Metropolon, they're boring). Each different region of the playoff bracket will lead to play in different cities, and venues will change based on which game of the playoff it is. Don't fret though, venues of future games will be posted once the previous games conclude, for your convenience.

Drawk City is the largest city in the nation, sprawling through a massive swath of land in northern Drawkland. It has many millions of citizens living there, and there's so much to do that a writer once said "You could spend a lifetime trawling the streets of Drawk City and still never see all there is to see." The land is relatively flat, eventually sloping to mountains in the north, and being intersected by the massive, churning waters of the Drawkland River. Sentinel Indoor Stadium is like a wide, warped disc - with glass outsides. It glitters in the day and glows in the night, a true spectacle. Inside is one of the highest-tech basketball stadiums in the nation. However, the true honor of best basketball stadium is likely Corps Central Court, the first venue of the famed Drawk Corps (and their University, and other subsidiaries), to be opened on the true international scene. Its proximity to many Corps and non-Corps amenities make it a true hotspot whenever anybody's playing in it.

Metropolon is the second largest city in Drawkland, being only a relative stone's throw away from Drawk City (if, say, the stone was actually a boulder thrown from an aircraft-carrier sized trebuchet). It was a predesigned city for the modern age, and it's a perfectly symmetrical circle shape, with an odd but easy-to-understand circular-nested grid making up its street network. In the epicenter of the city is the massive Pinnapex, a skyscraper that dwarfs any other building on Sonnel. The buildings around it slowly diminish in height in perfect harmony, making the skyline look almost like a parabola or a tight bell curve from afar. A few blocks from the center of the city, the skyscraper line breaks, for a collection of stadiums are placed in a ring around the same loop street. The Ring is the basketball stadium within the inner ring, and it's undoubtedly one of the most futuristic façades and insides in basketball. All the major basketball teams (read: the Metropolon Towers and Metropolon City College) in the city play here, as well as a few minor ones, meaning the stadium is used almost every day of the year for something.

Sadeg is the 9th biggest city in all of Drawkland, being one of the oldest, and the birthplace of Iarocav, Drawkland's current (and only) leader. It's situated in a large valley, and as the city has expanded, it's gradually filled the entire valley and progressed out of the valley "walls" and into the areas surrounding it. The main claim to fame was the "Spartan Academy" housed by the valley, where Drawkland's most elite warriors trained. It's also what many call the "hub," "crux," or "nub" of Drawkian culture: the most stereotypical or cliche you can find Drawkians. The Sadeg Spartans play in Cliffside Court, a stadium near the walls of the valley, where some of the games are played. The other stadium, Spartan Valley Arena, is deeper in the center of the city and used mainly by Sadeg State University, the famous undefeated-until-the-damn-final-against-Cenial team from NSCAA 7. It's on campus and directly adjacent to SSU's gridiron stadium. Both are very nice venues to play in, and are designed to hold and project noise as well as possible, without causing huge damage to the ears.

Corinth City is a hotspot of basketball, indeed, one of the largest in the nation outside of the clutches of the sporty north in Iarocavet. It's much more southern than the other cities, and is thus hotter. Especially considering it goes from hugging the shores of the Mali River to giving way to the massive desert that expands far north (not all the way up to our other host cities though). Corinth is renowned for its massive research and education scene, being home to over 100 universities, colleges, higher learning institutes, and diploma mills. Wait, what? And second in its city profiling is, as we've mentioned, sports, the most hyped of which is basketball. In fact, the Corinth City Burners, who play in the beautiful Bunsen, Inc. Arena uptown, near the desert, are one of the greatest teams in Drawkland, and we all know how well the Chromatik Crushin' Corinth City (University) Chargers did in the NSCAA, assisted by the crowd in their well-built Chargers Coliseum.

TRANSPORTATION
Transportation to and from Drawkland is very easy in itself. There are connections by air and sea, and within the continent, the land connections are also very viable. A sea connection is available (by river, none are coastal cities) for all cities except Sadeg, and train/highway/similar land connections are available to all cities. All 4 cities also have airports in outerlying areas, and other air options for those who want quick long-distance travel. For those not located on Sonnel, there is a massive port city in The Isles of Avon (located in Southwestern Rushmore near Ceni), with portals to link to Drawkland.

WEATHER
3/4 cities are in Iarocavet, the northernmost territory of Drawkland (and the 4th in Malicollet), but more importantly, why do you care about the weather? We're playing professional basketball here. The weather for all 4 cities is expected to be sunny in the mornings and early afternoons, but clouding over slowly in the late afternoons and evenings (which should make for some pretty sunsets). Rain is expected, but not until the wee hours of the mornings when only the late drunkards are still out and about. Overall, not much issue for those going to the games.

LODGING, AMENITIES, FOOD
While there's a range of possible lodgings in all 4 cities, going from the cheapest motels to the fanciest high-rises. Many 3-5 star hotels, especially in Metropolon and Drawk City, are offering special reduced fares to fans to encourage lodging at their establishments. Many lodging establishments feature amenities such as TVs, free wifi, pools, hot tubs, and other such common goodies. Several hotels are offering deals to nations who wish to have many or most of their travelling citizens in one or two hotels close to one another.
The nightlife, especially on the weekends, is especially lively in these cities, even compared to the generally lit nightlife in the country in general. Bars, sports and otherwise, are common on most streets, especially near the stadiums, and the better hotels that most tourists stay at have restaurants within or adjacent to them. There's a wide variety of foods in Drawkland, but what you'd commonly see in a sportsbar or a high-quality restaurant anywhere else in a western setting. Although, it's suggested that visitors try the fried or grilled Drawk. It's legal and delicious!

OOC: If you need more info to go on or have other inquiries about Drawkland or the cities your team will be playing/staying in, feel free to contact me via TG.

DRAWKLAND NET CORPS
Basketball is an avid sport in Drawkland, with huge cheering crowds and near-constantly playing pep bands the norm. If you've never been to a basketball game in Drawkland, you may want to bring a pair of earplugs. Or two. You'll need them. We get hyped, maybe too much so.

As you may notice, the Drawkian team is sorta massive, as far as height goes. This is perfectly natural for Drawkians, as the national height average is 7'5" (they're not related to humans evolutionarily besides the shape and proportions and such). They also may seem like they're "middle-aged," but that's wrong. In fact, most professional Drawkian athletes are between the ages of 20 and 50. Again, this is perfectly natural, as the average lifespan is about 150 and the body doesn't "peak" until about 50 or 60.

After a shocking defeat of Valanora last edition that brought the Drawkians to the Round of 16 (to be crushed by no other than this edition's co-hosts and cause a massive riot/brawl), the Net Corps is ready to bring some heavy firepower and get even further this edition.

This time, instead of going the basic "All-Star team" route, the Drawkian International Sporting Council (DISC) hand-picked team members, some high performers from last edition, a couple different all-star club players, and even a few collegiate players who REALLY shined in the NSCAA. This same team will go to the Olympic Games this summer.
The team is Co-Ed, and coaches were selected from the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion team's head coaches from last year's championships. The 3rd coach is the head coach of the current champion collegiate team. Since there was such a small gap between the 2 editions, the exact same squad is returning, but older.

Many thanks to Saint Kanye!

ROYAL KINGDOM OF QUEBEC

Transportation

To arrive in Quebec you'll likely just want to fly in to the city that you will be playing in. The 8 cities going to be hosting the tournament, with all of them possessing a major airport served by most major airlines, including the giant Quebecois duo of Spiritair and Aeroquebec groups. Landing to Quebec, however, is still going to be a huge challenge: International flights are permitted to land and take off, but expect many delays on both departure and arrival due to mother nature behaving madly.

If you insist on arriving via waterways, poor you. Due to the worst winter in 100 year's time this Winter, most ports (obviously not including ports at California City and ones on shores of Terra Henrius) are frozen and won't be used for transportational purposes.

While travelling inside country, there are main methods you can use for this. The railways here isn't as quick as it'd be with other nations (the maximum speed being 225km for the fastest train service), but they are extremely punctual/on-timerelatively punctual compared to other methods (one or two-hour delays are better than what you'd get in other options, with this bad of a weather), popularcramped (best option out of any right now) and frequent (one train per 30 minutes, with more coming due to demand), making it a very cost-effective and attractive option. Even with such situations the services in Quebec National Railways (QNR) are high-quality and well-maintained, so don't worry about your comfort while riding trains.

Quebec does possess a strong auto industry and cars are somewhat prevalent, so you can travel via cars if interested. This, however, is a very risky option for travelers due to icy and snowy road conditions in almost all highways and driving is not recommended. Same thing with buses.

As for aeroplanes, Flying between those cities are not recommended at all, due to weather conditions at all airports but California City and Gotham, making the flights very risky for even the most veteran of pilots.

Lodging

There will be some hotels of high-calibre (at least 4 star ones) available in those cities. However, those 4 cities being medium-sized cities, there will be some issues. The same will not be guaranteed with the visiting fans as there will be mass influx of Quebecois citizens as well, to watch the games. Therefore it is recommended to make reservations 3-4 months ahead of the tournament, in order to guarantee your reservation in the hotels around the city.

If you are still in trouble of finding hotel or motel suites, there will be hotels, motels and other modes of accomodation available at your expense, on towns slightly far away from the venues(50km-100km). For more information please contact Tourism Quebec or for more specific information any tourism agency of the city/cities you'll be off to(OOC: TG The Royal Kingdom of Quebec if you have any questions or so).

Weather

Mainland Royal Kingdom of Quebec is located in Temperate and Polar regions, with the cities located in varying degrees of climate zones so all 4 seasons can be experienced each year, but with different extremes. For those visiting anywhere but Gotham or California City it's very likely that the snowfall will be extremely frequent, as this tournament is ICly held during January. This will not affect the train services, though it'll do more than enough job of freezing people up, as all of the games will be held outdoors.

Also this won't apply to Gotham, which is a temperate location but is located far south of mainland Quebec.

Languages

There are three official languages in this nation: English, French and Korean. All 3 languages are taught in school curriculum and with great depth, causing most of the population to be at least trilingual. Additionally, in this part of the nation there are some other First Nations languages being recognised as regional languages and are used+learned to great depth in schools, so please note this when you're RPing in Quebec. Most Quebecois you'll meet are extremely polyglot and that will show with way they speak.

When it comes to linguistic status on city that you're RPing on/about, you're more than welcome to TG The Royal Kingdom of Quebec about it.

Money

The national currency of Quebec is Quebecois Dollar, which is fairly expensive. The current exchange rate is $3 NS for 1 Quebecois pound. With the nation being rich with huge economy, almost everyone will have at least has a good deal of money here. So please don't feel surprised if the products are much more expensive here than back home, excluding alcohol.

Things you'll need in your stay, prices in NS Dollars (NS$) and Quebecois Pounds (£)

-Hotel: NS$ 35-400, £12-135
-Public transport in the cities: NS$2-$5, £0.7-1.7
-Bus transport to different cities: NS$5-50, £1.7-17
-Train transport to different cities: NS$6-80, £2-28
-Ferry between lakes: NS$5-$12, £1.7-4
-Flights between cities: NS$65-150, £22-50
-Average cost of food: NS$12-45, £4-15
-Sports tickets: NS$60-600, £20-200
-Bottle of water: NS$9, £3 (Sale of bottled water extremely limited, with public fountains providing very low interest for the people)
-Alcohol: NS$3-150, £1-50 per keg
-Public phone: NS$1.5 per call, £0.5 per call

Cuisine

Quebecois cuisine has evolved through centuries of social and political change. Originating from dominant Korean and elegant French cuisine that came with settlers, as well as materials and existing food of the First Nations living in the area, Quebecois cuisine has evolved through a complex interaction of the natural environment and different cultural trends and is the best mix of it all.

Quebecois cuisine is largely based upon rice, other diverse kinds of grains, vegetables, and meats(in this area moose and caribou, and to rare cases bears). The meals are noted for the number of side dishes (banchan) that accompany steam-cooked short-grain rice. It varies on the personal preferences but often in every meal they eat at least some form of maple syrup, Kimchi and/or bread. Commonly used ingredients include sesame oil, doenjang (fermented bean paste), soy sauce, salt, garlic, ginger, pepper flakes and gochujang (fermented red chili paste). In this part of the nation, fish are caught off the rivers and lakes to be eaten in whatever the way one prefers as well.

Ingredients and dishes vary by region to region, with many. Many regional dishes have become national, and dishes that were once regional have proliferated in different variations across the country.
Meals are regulated by cultural etiquette, which are very hard to follow for even the average Quebecois due to all the processes they take.

TG The Royal Kingdom of Quebec for any questions.

Religion

Quebec is a religiously diverse country, though divided when it comes to dominant regions. In the cities where the Baptism of Fire will be hosted, First Nations' religions are widely practiced, with Quebecois Catholic Church and Buddhism right behind. Due to these differences, all three levels of Government keeps some separation from any religions, though they still hold some influences in those levels and receive lots of funding. It is also not recommended to argue about politics or religion in Quebec, as political and religious apathy is not known....for most part.

Laws

Culturally and socially, Quebec is in bit of a mix. Another handy chart will be in place to explain some of Quebec's laws in place:

Recreational drugs: Legal, though selling them without licence can lead to up to $10,000 in fines and 5 years in jail.
Hard drugs: Illegal, with punishments up to $50,000 in fines and 15 years in jail for possession and consumption of the drugs
Prostitution: Legal, though people's attitudes about it will be very conservative in this part of the nation
Pornography: Legal, aside from child pornography(applies to any pornographic videos or anything else starring people up to 18 years of age). Possession of child pornography will land you straight in jail for 5 years, while production and distribution of it can lead to potential death sentence. So, don't try it as it's a big no-no.
Legal age for tobacco: Varies (16 in Val d'Or and Rouyn-Noranda, 19 in Churchill and Winnipeg, 18 in rest)
Legal age for alcohol: 16
Maximum BAC to drive: 0.03.
Saying the word 'Coconut': Legal

All the foreign citizens caught under the Federal and/or Provincial law will not be extradited, unless of a special order given by the Emperor, His Imperial Majesty the Jacques IX.

RP Challenge : Ice and Snow

Royal Kingdom of Quebec, as you already know by now, is a nation well known for its diverse geography from temperate to polar regions, as well as its extremely cold weather. This gives people advantage in that there'd be cool summers where they'd be able to actually not have to worry that much about sweltering heat. With that being said, the Quebecois State is going through a particularly tough challenge as they are currently in middle of a worst snowstorm in 100 years. Even with arsenal of snow shovelers and other machineries to deal with winter, as well as the Quebecois people having already used to the environment, this has made their lives much tougher than expected.

At the same time, the Quebecois State is still getting used to their southern penal colony in Terra Henrius. Terra Henrius, where Gotham is located, was first acquired by Quebec after the Syndicatian part of the Mertagne was divided into 2 and sold off to Quebec and Unified Sunrise Islands. Those in Quebec City, who thought that Terra Henrius is a great patch of land on a rapidly desertified region, decided to turn it into a massive penal colony where there'd be minimal authorities and slave labour projects to supposedly reeducate criminals who have committed horrible criminal offence. 8 years after the acquisition, Terra Henrius has turned into what people expected it'd be: well-developed, profitable and with lots of agricultural products to exploit off. At the same time it's been with minimal authorities and turned into North Ruland where homicide rate's very high.

With this in mind, here will be some major delays, incidents and even worse events happening throughout one's stay in Royal Kingdom of Quebec, whether you be in Mainland or Terra Henrius. They'll be posted as mentions right next to your game results, a separate RP posted by myself or a side mention on a results post if it's a thing affecting not just one region but across the nation.

Feel free to telegram me for any additional information about the winter storm and/or Terra Henrius.

California City - The Cannabis Capital of the World

California City is the second-largest host city at only the 895,000 (city) and 1.85 million (metropolitan area, which overlaps that of Southern part of Winnipeg), but it's not without character. Located in the Southwestern corner of Manitoba province, where an hour-long drive from Winnipeg over the mountain range gets you into a very sunny, warm place, it stands as a city and region unique from rest of the country. Blessed by the sun, climate and wonderful soil, California region also stands out as the producer of nation's 45% of marijuana, which should translate to around 13.5% of Multiverse's weed production. Grown in plantations big and small, one can drive through the area and find the plantations anywhere one wishes to find (OOC: Think of cotton plantations in Southern US), showing its grand scale.

When it comes to the city itself, California City is the warmest city in Quebec, with over 35% of the people speaking Spanish or Portuguese as their primary language. The people here, blessed by sun and warmth, play lot more sports involving water and outdoor sports, causing Winnipeg Spartak to be one of the most, if not the most popular team on LigAnaia R49. Even right now the weather is 15-20'C above celsius, causing many vacationers to spend their time in Southwestern corner of Quebec. Make sure to enjoy your stay when you're around, because you'll need to get adjusted to rest of Quebec later!

Sarnia - The Chemoville

Surrounded by two of 5 Great Lakes of Quebec, Sarnia (also known as Quebecois Stoneshore) is the city with its own uniqueness in it. Built on local Aboriginal land in 1850s after a longstanding agreement, it has developed as an important city for Quebecois industries, most notably that of refining, chemical and motor industries. In spite of changes, the city of 510,000 maintains a small-town feel with its ancient architecture, some dating back the Queen Arlene days in late 1800s, while coexisting with factories and high-risers built and occupied by those companies. Like with Trojanajara it is a very dreary and boring place to be at, because of its paltry entertainment options. This, however, causes the Sarnians to devote their hours in their local sports team. Whether it be R49's Chemo-Metallurg, QHL's Spark or QBL's express or even Sarnia Tech Spartans (more or so basketball, but football's sometimes followed) doesn't matter; they will buy into it.

Kingston - The 6IX

At the corner of Carlton and Church Streets stands one of the ancient arenas of Quebecois sports, the Maple Leaf Gardens. For almost 68 years, the Gardens, as it was known, has served as not only the home of the legendary Maple Leafs of QHL, but also the Kingston Raptors of QBL. Over time, it has served as the home of most memorable Quebecois basketball moments, from the Raptors' 4 QBL Championship titles (02,14,16,20) to the OFSAA (tri-provincial competition, of Ontario, Frontenac and Outaouais provinces) high school basketball tournament held here.

Boasting history, heritage and antiquity that are missing in other arenas, Maple Leaf Gardens is a Quebecois paradise for basketball fans. From its famed Gondola (to which broadcasts are still held on QBC and TSN broadcasts) to the Kingston Sports Hall of Fame, it is rich in hockey and history. While the amenities may not be the world-class and state-of-art, it is compensated by the antiquated feelings that reek even in the most recent of seats which date as recently as 1974. Excellent restaurants around the arena and new features added by the renovation are also bonuses as well.
When it comes to the city itself, Kingston is a major city in the Southwestern corner of the nation, with the population of 3.6 million on its metropolitan area. an international centre for business and finance. The city's cosmopolitan and international population reflects its status as one of most important destinations for immigrants to this Oceanian nation. The city itself is a mix of different periods and styles in history, which draws attentions to many visitors and residents most noted for their ethnic and racial diversity. The 6IX, as it's infamously called by anyone nowadays, is also known for weak cultural scenes and support, only but an excellent ground for sports in any level.

Ottawa - Your Ball City

Ottawa is a medium-sized city of 1.85 million based on high-tech instustries and transportation, the latter due to it being the junction of 5 highways, 3 railway lines and 2 rivers. In recent years, the rise in Informational Technology and industries related has made Ottawa one of Quebec's most educated and affluent cities. The city itself hosts 2 well-known universities and headquarters of some of Quebec's rising companies, but other than there aren't much to do there. Because of this, the Ottawans invest a lot into sports. While most sports have substantial fanbase here, Ottawa is known as the true basketball city of this nation, with the famous QBL team Ottawa Skyhawks, two top college programs, extremely competitive high school leagues and of course heavy participation by people. The bringing of this IBC to Ottawa is expected to showcase the city's love for the sport.

Montreal - The Metropolis

While Quebec City may be the most historic, Montreal is the largest and probably the most dynamic city of Quebec. With the population of 12 million in the Greater Montreal Area, the city is the centre of Quebec's economy, culture, commerce, finance, industry, transportation and sports. Drawing international influences and population, the city boasts the likes of world-class medical institutions, business quarters, aeronautics and pharmaceutical industries, and a cluster of additional industries based on intellectual property and creativity, making it the number 1 Quebecois metropolis.

Sept-Iles

Sept-Iles is the largest and capital city of Nord-Est province, with the population of 325,000. It is nestled at the south side of Quebec's largest plain (The Great Northern Plains) and The Taebaek Mountains, which stretch along the southern edge of Northeastern Quebec that encompasses Nord-Est and Labrador provinces. Geologically isolated from most parts of the country, Sept-Iles was able to preserve its own distinct culture and to date it has a tendency of being politically and culturally more conservative.

Its pockets of attractiveness lie towards the sea, particularly near Gyeongpo Bay, while its cultural hotspots – well-preserved traditional, old-era buildings and the 400-year-old shamanist Dano Festival - are well supported by the modern attractions promoting the unique region of Nord-Est. When it comes to sports, Sept-Iles is another college market that is valued heavily by the grassroots fan. Due to the same reason as Rouyn-Noranda, adding to even more isolated location this northeastern city has, Sept-Iles roots heavily on its college teams. The locals will celebrate or cry depending on how their games went, and fights, bets and other activities are very common on game days. Expect this to translate into the games, with all age groups in attendance: the elderly coming with their friends and locals hosting tailgates everywhere with their stock of fish and squid.

St. John's - Maritime Hibernia

Located on the easternmost and largest island of Quebec, this Newfoundland city of 2.15 million people is one of the largest in the country and largest in Atlantic Quebec by far. A city of Eireanners, it's a city that's been on hard times for large part of late 1900s, but has on a strong rebound session for most of 2000s due to offshore oil development. Nowadays the demographics are lot more diverse than it once was 30 years ago, and you'll be able to mix in with any groups of Gaelic descent you prefer to be around with. The corporate aspect is starting to be stronger in some places, but for most part the locals are still very welcoming, vibrant and gentle folks.

Unlike its status as a major Quebecois city, downtown St.John's is relatively low-rise, with the heritage laws placed to restrict destruction of heritage buildings in what's the oldest settlement on the Northeastern part of the country. With this, on top of hilly terrain and steep maze of residential streets, downtown St. John's is considered to be highly beautiful, with the houses painted in bright, vibrant colours.

Gotham - Heaven and Hell on Earth

If Montreal is the city of dreams, and Quebec City the city of history, then Gotham (formerly known as Magnaeus) is the City of Nightmares. Ever since the fall of the Inevitable-part of Mertagne and the Quebecois colonisation, its history is a long and bloody tale of crime, debauchery (also called as Jeruselemism) and anarchism. So it is of no surprise to anyone here that it has the highest homicide rate of any city in Atlantian Oceania- barring Ruland because Ruland is just another level of things. It has suffered disasters of all kinds and is currently home to heroes, civilian polices, villains and of course corrupted people. For those here to attend the Baptism of Fire must remember that they need to stay in groups and of course only their stadium, restaurant or hotel 'cause their safety cannot be guaranteed in case they move out of time.

LOUDER AND BIGGER Roster for the 21st International Basketball Classic

LOUDER AND BIGGER, as most could probably guess from the name, values two qualities above all: height and vocal projection. Their players have been selected based on the first factor, and the head coach on the second. Basketball skill was barely considered, except for Point Guard Josip Yzva, who was included only after an intense debate between the LABBA and the Temple of Size and Volume. Ultimately, the High Priest ruled that “Loudest” was an abstract term which could apply to actions, and allowed Yzva to play.

Coaches:
Head Coach: Elessar Tiev, Loudest in the Land
Asst. Head Coach: Henrik Roderick, He Whose Thoughts are Biggest

Starters:
PG: Josip Yzva, He Whose Actions Speak Loudest; 6’ 0”
SG: Vistak Adrov, Fourth Biggest in the Land; 6’ 11”
SF: Falgar Wivsik, Third Biggest in the Land; 7’ 0”
PF: Erik Velsard, Second Biggest in the Land; 7’ 0”
C: Dudley Lawson, Biggest in the Land; 7’ 1”

Bench Unit:
PG: Adriel Harrick, Ninth Biggest in the Land, 6’ 10”
SG: Sever Redstone, Eighth Biggest in the Land; 6’ 10”
SF: Naven Andels, Seventh Biggest in the Land; 6’ 10”
PF: Kaleb Illys, Sixth Biggest in the Land; 6’ 10”
C: Owen Theris, Fifth Biggest in the Land; 6’ 11”
C: Victor Jakob, Tenth Biggest in the Land 6’ 10”

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my Scorers: Yes
Choose Scoring Events: Yes
Godmod Scoring Events: Yes
RP Injuries to my Players: Yes
Godmod Injuries to my Players: Yes (Don’t kill anyone)
Godmod Other Events: Yes

Style Modifier: +3
Owing to the team’s emphasis on height and lack of substantial basketball ability, their strategy is mainly predicated on forcing the ball inside and trying to find a mismatch on height for an easy shot.

San Llera National Team Roster

Name: San Llera National Basketball Team
Head Coach: Brad Eiffel
Assistant Coaches: Dionis Quoe, Tomas Perrino
Ranking: 17th
Appearances: 4
Best Finish: Round of 16
Style Modifier: 0
More Info: Here

ImageImage

Coaches
Brad Eiffel - A very young, up-and-coming coach. Led San Llera to two impressive tournaments, but then 0 points in his third. Luckily, the next performance was better and his job is no longer in danger.
Dionis Quoe - A coaching veteran, who helps counterbalance the inexperience of Eiffel.
Tomas Perrino - Something of a mad scientist. Knows an incredible amount about the sport but can't communicate it very well.

Starting 5
Position First Name Last Name - Height, Weight - Age - Team

PG Antoni Ferra - 6'4", 210 lbs - 32 years old - Marano Flood - Ferra is a defensive nightmare for opposing point guards with his size and length. However, he is incapable of making shots outside of 15 feet from the basket when on offense. Average passer for his position, can rebound very well compared to other point guards. Eiffel rotates his point guards a lot so while Ferra may start, he won't necessarily play starter minutes.

G Roderic Mieras - 6'1", 190 lbs - 27 years old - Cthulhu United - Mieras is no longer the youngest player on San Llera's roster, and he has now matured into the player most hoped he would be. He still is a little bit small, preferring to play shooting guard at just 6'1", and not incredibly large at 190 pounds. Mieras sometimes has trouble guarding larger shooting guards, but he is quick and has good hands for swiping at opposing players. On offense, however, is where he makes his salary. Mieras is an excellent passer and already the best driver on the team. He will torture any defenders who aren't as quick as him, and he shoots well enough to keep them honest.

SF Atualo Vela - 6'8", 230 lbs - 29 years old - Patria Poble Pupusas - The breakout star of the first IBC whilst Ganchana struggled, Vela was, before that tournament, regarded as somebody who was freakishly athletic but not talented enough to keep up. However, he proved his doubters wrong, as he showed an excellent shooting touch and great court vision. Vela is by far the fastest player on the team, and the most athletic, with a 36-inch standing vertical leap. He has also developed shooting and passing skills in the last four years, and will be San Llera's star in this incoming IBC.

PF Carlos Tell - 6'9", 360 lbs - 34 years old - Cthulhu United - Some years ago, Brad Eiffel speculated that Carlos Tell could become San Llera's best player if he lost some weight. Instead of following this advice, Tell did the opposite, gaining fifteen pounds since then. Remarkably, at 365 pounds, Tell is still a national team starter. He has excellent post moves and shockingly good shooting ability and speed for his size. With his power, Tell can be a monster on the glass despite his inability to jump more than a few inches. Unfortunately, he still is an awful defender with little mobility.

C Ganchana - 7'0", 240 lbs - 36 years old - Llerana Cthulhu - The best player on the team for a long team, age has had it's toll on Ganchana, and now his position as this team's star is in question. At 36, his athleticism, which was never his strongest trait, has started to dwindle a little bit. However, his defensive prowess, shooting ability, passing ability, and post ability still remain. When posting up, Ganchana is a nightmare for defenders, with his mixture of power and finesse. On defense, he is also very good, but can't rebound as well as he used to, especially considering that he is constantly nursing a torn ligament. This ligament and his increasing age limit his jumping ability, and he now has to rely on his height to gain an advantage. With more and more 7-footers popping up, this might be a difficult tournament for him.

Bench
G Marco Fuie - 5'9", 180 lbs - 32 years old - Pantans Revolutionaries - Talented, but too short to crack the starting five
G Sirhan Molama - 6'2", 190 lbs - 23 years old - Dindledon Colonials - A talented young point guard, excellent passer and driver.
G Marco Vas - 6'1", 195 lbs - 22 years old - Patria Poble Pupusas - Not very large or athletic but still one of the best prospects San Llera has to offer with his shooting, ball handling, and smarts
F Dextrino - 6'9", 225 lbs - 23 years old - Cthulhu Education and Preparedness College - Earned a call-up after his terrific NSCAA play, long, athletic, and a terrific defender
F Lluc Bosch - 6'6", 220 lbs - 33 years old - Llerana Swamp Dragons - Very small for his position, makes up for it with an aggressive, sometimes dirty style of play
F Felip Capella - 6'10", 240 lbs - 24 years old - CdB Llerana - Bullied opposing defenders at the college level, waiting on whether he can translate to national team play
C Marti Prior - 6'11", 260 lbs - 33 years old - Pioneras d'Frontera - Excellent all-around offensive player, but is backing up Ganchana

IBC21 Report- Roster and Preview

For years, the spirit of basketball had been encased in solid onyx, waiting for the perfect moment to break free. With the IBC starting to rise, the relic's guard began to crack. Now, the spirit flows through the hearts of every single being in Qasden and the multiverse. With Quebec and Drawkland opening the doors for millions of basketball fans, it's time for the multiverse to know Qasden's true potential. Unranked, the Vans have easily become the underdogs of this competition. However, we are almost positive that Qasden will still perform well in group A, one way or another.

For their international debut, here is the official roster of the Qad delegation in the 21st International Basketball Championship in RK Quebec and Drawkland—

Nickname- The Vans (Turkish Vans)

And now....... THE PREVIEW!!!!!!!!!

The Vans were drawn into Group A from the 5th pot, pitting them against West Phonecia, Nueva Andalusia, Electrum, Levivania and the Royal Kingdom of Quebec. Being 1 of 3 groups to contain 2 unranked nations instead of 3, the Group is basically a bear trap waiting to snap the legs off Qasden. Let's start by looking at our first match, shall we?

MD1 • Royal Kingdom of Quebec v Qasden

It's a clash of the AO's Q nations. Quebec, who's not only co-hosting the event, but also ranked 2nd in the multiverse, is highly favored in this match, while Qasden, an unranked nation founded just a month ago into the NS multiverse, will probably be owned by the reapers. Our prediction? Quebec will crush Qasden, but won't crush Qad spirits yet.

MD2 • Qasden v Levivania

The Vans 2nd match sees them taking on the Levivanians, who are currently ranked 63rd in the multiverse. Though not as experienced, Qasden's fingers are crossed and we're looking for an upset. Hopefully, luck will be on our side all the way through.

MD3 • West Phoencia v Qasden

After facing two powerful opponents, the Vans will take on fellow unranked nation, West Phonecia. Though they are technically evenly matched, We would definitely like to see a potential victory for Qasden. Rest assured, this game is much more important than it seems.

MD4 • Qasden v Nueva Andalusia

At 24th in the m-verse, NA could be seen as one of Qasden's more difficult adversaries. Being the first clash between these two countries in any sport, it's safe to say the NA might take this game over the Vans. But hey, ya never know.

MD5 • Electrum v Qasden

Finally, Qasden's last group stage opponent(s) are the Electrumites, a strong nation in the basketball world, standing at the ninth place position in the m-versal rankings. While this is the first clash between their basketball teams, Qasden and Electrum have faced before in the ES3, where Electrumites defeated more Qasdonians than vice versa. With the rankings and all of that, we predict a loss to Electrum, but we hope to make it at the very least a close game.

And there you have it. A 2-3 record for the first half of the group stage, which seems like a pretty ok start for the Vans' international basketball status. As for the second half, that we'll be released when the time comes. Before we leave, we nearly forgot the RP permissions for our opponents—

Godmod Scoring Events: Yes

Godmod Injuries to my Players: No
Godmod Other Events: Nothin' too crazy

There you have it. When we return, we'll check out the QUE v QAD match, before and after. Until then, this is QADAN, making sure you get all that good sporty sturf 8)

CENIAN NATIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM - IBC 21
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CENTER - BENJAMIN ESPINOZA - 20 years old - Huracán Norteño
Part of the University of Ceni-Santiago team that did exceedingly well in the NSCAA, Espinoza was one of the best Cenian centers and one of the better ones at all Cenian schools overall. He has an excellent three-point shot and rebound, and his height allows him to be a strong and competent defender as well; this duality has led the University to an excellent position in the NSCAA.

POWER FORWARD - JAVIER AIZA - 18 years old - Huracán Norteño
Aiza takes quite a lot of initiative on the court and has a good passing and rebounding game. He often serves as a link between the offense and the defense on his team but says he has a better defensive game, working well to harry the opposition team and getting them to make mistakes. Aiza is in the mid-height wing for a basketball player, only around six foot four, but still manages to get into his rebounding role with quite a bit of creativity to make up for his lack of height. He was the guiding force for both his CeniHoops team, Huracán Norteño, and for the University of Ceni-Santiago, which was the surprise fourth seed in the entire NSCAA.

SMALL FORWARD - WES JARIK - 26 years old - New Oxford Mercury
Wes Jarik is a very accurate foul-shooter and three-point shooter that tries to get fouls called on him pretty easily; he is one of the smaller players in the game, and is versatile on the defense, using that small height to his advantage to guard players of different heights and abilities. He serves as a pivot between a lot of the different parts of the Cenian basketball game; passing, shooting, rebounding, and blocking are all part of his responsibilities for the team. He played extremely well for the New Oxford Mercury, a team which achieved second place, in the new CeniHoops basketball league.

SHOOTING GUARD - ACE STARGAZER - 25 years old - Whitehaven Storm
Ace Stargazer is a bit of an unusual name for an unusual man. He's one of the tallest players on the Cenian team, and can play with the best of the best in the defense and the offense. He is a good ball handler and passes well; additionally, he has a good guarding motion due to his height. He also switches with Wes Jarik as small forward and is instrumental in creating lots of plays with his passing ability. Most importantly, Stargazer is responsible for scoring, and that he does with a vengeance, with an extremely accurate jump shot and dunk, both due to his height.

POINT GUARD - NEIL HALCYON - 23 years old - Cenial Phoenix
Neil Halcyon is perhaps the savior of the Cenian team in this tournament. He is a good all-around player, but as the point guard, he specializes in creating plays and assists for his teammates. Known as a leader on the court, Halcyon is an excellent reader of other players and has a strategy and sticks to it. However, with this in mind, he has the capacity to surprise a defense by either driving in for a basket or hitting a three-pointer; he is extremely versatile in this regard, but mostly known for hitting great three pointers at a high accuracy rate. He led Cenial Phoenix to the title in the new CeniHoops league, showing off his calm demeanor and his basketball skills.

CENTER - ORION DARKSTAR - 20 years old - DNS United
Playing for Southpoint Technical College in the NSCAA, Orion Darkstar, and his school, were left out of most pundits' early predictions, but the school surprised all the commentators, with Darkstar at the heart of the team's effort, with an overall excellent point differential, indicating Darkstar's ability not only to shoot well, but also to defend well.

POWER FORWARD - ASHUR EL-AMIN - 18 years old - New Oxford Mercury
Ashur El-Amin may be one of the most prolific scorers for his team but also led the University of New Oxford (and, now, the New Oxford Mercury) in the defense as well, the very model of an all-around player who excels on both ends of the court. He is of somewhat average height, like many Cenians, but makes up for that with an with an excellent lay-up and three-point shot; his rebound is actually his best basketball move. He has worked well with his team both in the NSCAA and in the CeniHoops, and might be getting reliable playing time, especially considering how well his team has done both in CeniHoops and the NSCAA.

SMALL FORWARD - PHILLIP LOMAX - 22 years old - Cenial Phoenix
Although the University of Ceni underperformed in their conference, getting only 4th in the regular season, they won their conference championship to get into the Ultra 64. Lomax was one of the better players in his school and one of the better small forwards throughout the Cenian schools in NSCAA. As a small forward, he leads the team on offense and dunks while working in the man-to-man defense to deny the opposition shots. As a player, he works well with coaches who have a fast style of play, as he likes to be aggressive and shoot the ball a lot.

SHOOTING GUARD - OBRAN CAMASAU - 22 years old - DNS United
Camasau, of Romanian heritage, also featured on the Southpoint Technical College roster that went to third place on the NSCAA selection committee's tabulation. Versatile as always, Camasau is more of a flexible shooting guard, not only excellent at the shooting, with good dunks and layups, but also on blocking, stealing, and layups, contributing greatly to his school's success in the NSCAA.

POINT GUARD - KIANA KE'SAHNDRHAN - 22 years old - Whitehaven Storm
The only woman on this team, Ke'Sahndrhan has the misfortune of being a point guard with the eminent Cenian Neil Halcyon occupying the starting spot on the national team. Playing for Whitehaven Naval Academy in the NSCAA, she outshone some of the more touted pre-season players as her team won their conference and did fairly well in the NSCAA Ultra 64 tournament. The navy believed in teamwork and Ke'Sahndrhan was no exception; as the point guard for her team, she is responsible for much of the passing going on with her team and excels in that regard, and as the point guard for her team, she's an excellent leader on the pitch.

COACHES

Image

HEAD COACH Paulie Brewster
51yo

Coach Brewster is usually calm, but when he sees the referees make bad calls, or sees his team behind, he gets fired up and starts to yell. He seems to favor his players, whether they're right or wrong. He gives everyone a chance to play, so expect all players to have stats. He also favors offense slightly.

Image

ASSISTANT COACH Bernard Foley
34yo

Assistant Coach Foley led South Central University to an undefeated season and its first back-to-back title in 46 years. He provides a defensive mindset to the team to complement Coach Brewster's preference for offense.

POINT GUARDS

Image

6 Cedric Philips (starter)
6 ft 3 in (1.90 m) / 187 lb (85 kg) / 28yo

AKA "Chill Phil". Skinny, but very fast, with high stamina and injury resistance. Great in both stealing and passing, not so in rebounding, blocking and strength. Average shooter.

Image

17 Darrell Gatson
6 ft 3 in (1.90 m) / 209 lb (95 kg) / 28yo

More of a scoring PG, better shooter than Philips, and stronger, but slower. Prone to injuries, but great at avoiding them.

Image

34 Bryan Warner
6 ft 4 in (1.93 m) / 198 lb (90 kg) / 27yo

The "middle ground" between Philips and Gatson in speed, strength and scoring. Corner specialist.

SHOOTING GUARDS

Image

40 James Blackwell (starter, co-captain)
6 ft 5 in (1.96 m) / 224 lb (102 kg) / 30yo

AKA "Jimmy B". Left-handed 3-point specialist, also decent mid-range, but below-average close range. Good defender and stealer. Fan favorite because of his game-winning shots and good looks.

Image

13 Mikael Larsson
6 ft 6 in (1.98 m) / 228 lb (103 kg) / 26yo

A player you'll love to hate. Hot hand and hot head, shoots well and reacts a lot to referee's calls. Known for taunting opponents and picking up fouls from them.

SMALL FORWARDS

Image

30 Frederic Trichet (starter)
6 ft 8 in (2.03 m) / 222 lb (101 kg) / 26yo

AKA "Trick Shot" Trichet. Name a shot, any shot, and he'll make it for you. 4-point play from past the 3-point line, 360 degree dunk, left-handed hook shot, you name it. Not the sharpest knife in the defense drawer, though.

Image

1 Marc Stevens
6 ft 7 in (2.00 m) / 231 lb (105 kg) / 27yo

6th man and likes it that way. Above average (but not excellent) in offense and defense who performs better when under pressure. Known for 4th quarter comebacks.

POWER FORWARDS

Image

22 Darren Overton (starter, co-captain)
6 ft 9 in (2.06 m) / 260 lb (118 kg) / 28yo

A smart player, good at finding holes in opponents' defense and anticipating plays. Despite his size, lay-ups more than he dunks. Also very calm and has not missed a free throw since middle school.

Image

23 Adrian Page
6 ft 10 in (2.08 m) / 290 lb (132 kg) / 25yo

A player who went pro straight from high school. Very athletic, will dunk, block and rebound, but is a bit selfish. He sometimes takes shots he's confident of making, even if it goes against coach's orders.

CENTERS

Image

24 Billy Forrest (starter)
6 ft 11 in (2.11 m) / 266 lb (121 kg) / 26yo

Former college standout, known for his spectacular dunks (but also a threat from mid-range), but a very physical and foul-prone defender.

Image

50 Lester Smith
6 ft 10 in (2.08 m) / 257 lb (117 kg) / 27yo

The rare center with a 3-point shot, used whenever Forrest fouls out, but also when they need a quick score. Decent defense, swats shots like the opponent killed his mother.

Image

8 Jason Morrigan
7 ft 3 in (2.21 m) / 305 lb (138 kg) / 32yo

The team's "secret weapon", a monster on both offense and defense, incredibly fast for his size, but tires easily.

The main change for this edition of the IBC was the swap of Mike Marks for long time international veteran Myke Fulborg. On camera, the coach stated the main reason for the swap was to bring in a more aggressive offense. Fulborg was known for getting his layups. Marks is known for his quick first step. He can do many things and is a better creator than Fulborg. For example, he might step and then pull back for a shot or drive to his left or right.

Ironwrought, Battle and Overson are coming back for their second season. The news is even greater for Sarah Overson, with the pilot project of tossing a woman onto the men's roster seemimg to work out. She was a bit tall for a point guard, had a solid handle and was known for flashy, efficient passing.

Vangaziland is expected to bring a fast tempo to the season, looking to run and gun, while running their playbook. The facilitators will look to move the ball into the hands of the aggressive big men. Shooting guards will cross the court or move off screens to find space. The Vangazi will look to show their fundamental skills and run clean games.

National Basketball Team of Electrum
National Team for International Basketball Championships 21

Management Team
Warren Jefferson - Head Coach

Background
Last edition marked the last edition wherein an Electrum 'vintage' player, ie. a player that has played from the beginning of Electrum's spectacular debut in the basketball to scene where they were the runners up was still on the team. That was captain Jane Greiner. Now, the captaincy has been passed on to Wendy Bishop, marking the first time that the captaincy has transitioned from woman to woman. Also, the new starting line-up also sees the first time that the Electrumite national team is majority women compared to men.

The Electrumite team used to be very feared and have an impressive reputation: winning back-to-back medals in the Men's Basketball at the Olympics (gold and silver respectively), and winning the gold medal in the Women's Basketball (the team that Greiner captained) in the last Olympics. Additionally, the Electrumites have always made the Round of 16 (bar two times) since their debut, and have second-place runs in IBC 14 and 17, a third place in IBC 16 for a total of three medals, but the elephant of the room has always been the IBC title proper, as they have narrowly missed out against traditional powerhouses Saintland and Ko-oren.

There is a lot of expectation. Last time, the newly 'rebuilt' team made from former college students performed exceptionally poorly against expectations, crashing out in the group stage and leading to the direct sacking of the former coach, Paula Hobson. Now, Warren Jefferson, that legendary coach who through his skills guided Electrum to being runners-up in their debut IBC has come out of retirement to take the helm. He has a lot of work to do, if he wants the team to be up to scratch with new and upcoming teams such as Vangaziland, Saint Kanye, etc. Let's see if his new crack at the IBC is enough to see the Electrumites make a very deep run into the final. Only time will tell.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
NATIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM

This will be Abanhfleft's seventh time participating in the International Basketball Championships. Abanhfleft went undefeated until losing two straight games in the quarterfinals against Saint Kanye, which by a staggering coincidence was also the same time that Leo Baxter was sidelined by a knee injury which he got back in the group stage against Drawkland. Fleftic fans are now angry at Saint Kanye for knocking them out, and Kanyean fans are also mad at the Fleftics for disrespecting them. Everyone wants a civil affair, but there are always a few hotheads out there, and who know what they could do this year....

Roster

Starting Lineup

F - #35 Georgius Dexius - 6 feet, 7 inches
C - #10 Stephanus Axius - 6 feet, 11 inches
C - #05 Davidus Sornatius - 7 feet

Notes

After an absence of one edition, Saintland returned at IBC 20, but they returned without Prince Ioannes and the Delluius brothers. Stephanus Axius is a good center, except for his poor shooting on foul shots, but he's no Prince Ioannes. Likewise, Abraham Talmudius and Matthaeus Acilius are not as skilled at three point shots as the Delluius brothers were. However, Lucius Cornificius has come into his own lately in Saintland's domestic league where he won the MVP this past season and the extremely talented three point shooter Lucia Cornelius has become the first female player for the Sanctii National Basketball Team, thanks to Feministvs Sanctvsterra's ongoing push for gender integration in sports. Basically, the Saintland National Basketball Team plays 1960s style basketball, with the center as the main scorer, but the other players will get shots throughout the course of a game. The arena's capacity is nearly the entire population of St. Petrus and the total population of Saintland is around 600 thousand. A Sanctii team advanced to the Quarterfinals of IBC 12, where they were eliminated by the apple-tossers from Cassadaigua and finished 4th in IBC 13. In IBC 14, they went undefeated until the Semi-Finals, defeated Cassadaigua 2 out of 3 times in the Semis and were taken the full 5 games in the finals by a surprising Electrum team before they finally won their first IBC. While they struggled in IBC 15 and, at times, looked bored, they nonetheless managed to become the first repeat IBC champion since Sarzonia and finally secure that elusive #1 ranking. IBC 16 was more of the same, as the Sanctii became the first team to three-peat as IBC champions, in the process tying Sarzonia for the most IBC titles. However, they finally faltered against Electrum in the semi-finals of IBC 17, despite home court advantage and would have to settle for a third place finish. They lost to Cosumar in the semis of IBC 18 and would finish third again. After missing IBC 19, they returned in IBC 20 and, without Prince Ioannes, exited in the Quarterfinals. Now, Prince Ioannes, once widely regarded as the best basketball in the multiverse, will be returning from injury, hoping to return to his old form and lead the Sanctii to glory once again, even as war rages on in Saintland.

The SJW National Basketball Team reminds you to check your privilege before reviewing our roster!

Offensive Style: Princeton Offense
Defensive Style: Zone
Coaches/Captains: None because hierarchy is oppressive, but where we have to have positions of authority, we delegate them to our least privileged players because progressive stack. So, patriarch suckz is the de-facto team captain.
Colors: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Black and Brown
Demonym: SJW
Formal Nation Name: The Community of Social Justice Islands
Shortened Nation Name: Social Justice Islands

Roster

Note: We don't have starters, backups or assigned positions because those are oppressive and unfair. Why can't somebody who is 3 foot 3 play center or somebody who is 7 foot play point guard? Players will be listed by uniform number, height, name and identity.

#00 - John Nelson (6-foot-9 pale-skinned cishet male)
#01 - Teodros Welde (7-foot-2 dark-skinned cis gay male)
#02 - Mumadi Sultygov (5-foot-7 brown-skinned trans-male)
#03 - Sophie Hurst (5-foot-1 pale-skinned cishet womyn)
#04 - Eden Welde (6-foot-4 dark-skinned cishet womyn)
#10 - Lisa Greene (6-foot-2 pale-skinned trans-womyn)
#11 - patriarch suckz (4-foot-3 pale-skinned intersex)
#12 - Chas Top (5-foot-1 pale-skinned cisbi womyn)

Notes

The first ever Social Justice Islands National Team consists of 8 players from diverse backgrounds, all of whom share a common commitment to social justice. The Social Justice Islands is the most tolerant nation in the multiverse, where anything is tolerated except intolerance, which is broadly defined and meets with severe punishment in the form of both social and legal consequences. The SJW team's style of play is extremely chaotic, with players seemingly changing positions every other play and focuses on slowing the pace of the game to a crawl in order to reduce the number of possessions in the game and thus increase the chance that the objectively terrible SJW team will pull out a fluke victory.

Nueva Andalusia Horneros National Basketball Team

Offensive Style: Horns (double high post)
Defensive Style: Man-to-man, occasional 2-3 zone
Style Modifier (if applicable): +3
Captain: Javier Medina
Colors: Red and White Home, Blue and White Away
Arena: Arena Nacional
Arena Location: Córdoba
Arena Capacity: 17,500
Head Coach: Emilio Rossi
Assistant Coaches: Antonio Castro, Gregorio Silva

Roster

Starters

G #1 Javier Medina, 5'11, 27
G #5 Francisco Aguirre, 6'2, 24
G #6 Federico Rojas, 6'4, 32
F #28 Marco Peirera, 6'9, 28
C #50 Marcelino Navarro, 6'10, 26

Reserves
G #15 David Benitez, 6'3, 33
G #9 Álvaro Quiroga, 6'2, 32
G #10 Martín Herrera, 6'1, 26
F #22 Claudio Pérez, 6'5, 30
F #47 Paolo Fernández, 6'9, 25
F #33 Cipriano Rivas, 6'8, 35

Playing Style

The Horneros play a fast-paced and aggressive style, seeking to push the tempo whenever possible. They're the kind of team that almost snatches the ball out of the basket, inbounds it, and is off to the races while the defense is trotting back. They do have a half-court offense, though. The "Horns" or double high post offense they employ revolves around the pick-and-roll. On defense, they usually apply three-quarter court press and stick to their men like glue on defense. This can lead to them getting beaten on the dribble drive, though.

The center, Marcelino Navarro, has risen from rural beginnings to become a force on both offense and defense for capital city club Córdoba C.B. Marco Pereira is a unstoppable force on offense, averaging over 20 points per game in the domestic league, and his defense has gradually become league-average. Javier Medina has emerged as the best point guard in the league, and his smooth handles and passes make this team go. Francisco Aguirre narrowly lost the MVP vote to Navarro last year and is averaging an even 22 points to match his age. Federico Rojas, even though he's a little small for the 3 position, fills his role well as a 3-and-D guy and will be tasked with facing the opponent's best wing player. The subs are mostly veterans on the smaller side, though Paolo Fernández has height and potential in abundance, and the lightning-quick Martin Herrera will be a key player as Medina's backup.

Nova Anglicana Lions National Basketball Team

Offensive Style: 4 Out, 1 In
Defensive Style: Aggressive
Style Modifier (if applicable): +2
Captain: Caleb Burns
Colors: Red and White Home, Blue and White Away
Arena: National Arena (doubles as hockey stadium)
Arena Location: Londinium
Arena Capacity: 14,000
Head Coach: Raymon Guidry
Assistant Coaches: Elmo Cardwell, Nick Goodman

Roster

Starters

G #3 Caleb Burns, 5'10, 34 - decent jumper but real game is driving and dropping dimes, will provide strong veteran leadership
G #8 Omar Martin, 6'4, 25 - combo guard with good handles and a sweet stroke
F #22 Cameron Fischer, 6'8, 26 - Fischer is one of the new breed of forwards, sweet jumper and decent handles, needs to work on back to the basket game
F #41 Kelvin Braxton, 6'9, 30 - Braxton is a tremendous leaper, has the handles to play 3 or 4-spot, added bulk gets him the starting spot
C #44 Ibrahim Mbaraza, 7'2, 35 - Sudanese refugee is a defensive force, offense will never be truly elite, but adequate, will be tested in new starting role

Reserves
G #14 Rey Benavides, 6'4, 35 - Benavides does two things well: defend, and rebound, offensive game is weak
G #12 Lee Morrison, 6'5, 24 - Morrison is a rangy guy, deadly jump shooter with an unflappable demeanor, no D
G #17 Ben Ryan, 6'1, 22 - Ryan is the heir apparent to Burns at the PG spot, already experienced after jumping early from college
G #10 Danny Flowers, 6'3, 36 - improved defender, he can really pop the 3-ball, don't leave him open
F #35 Jean Peltier, 6'10, 25 - Peltier is a traditional back-to-basket big man, great rebounder on offensive and defensive end
F #25 Cody Lewis, 6'6, 34 - fiery competitor, temper gets him in trouble, great outside shooter and defender, will see a lot of time
C #48 David Wolfe, 6'10, 27 - Wolfe earned his way onto the national team by scoring 23 points per game last year, not much in the way of defense

Playing Style

The Lions are playing a midsized and athletic lineup this time around, with one guard at 6'4, two forwards at 6'8 and 6'9, and the center Mbaraza at 7'2. Their main defenses are man-to-man and a 2-3 matchup zone, but have been known to play a trapping 1-3-1, 3-2, or a box-and-one, with Martin as the guy chasing the opposing team all over the court. With Mbaraza now the starting center, they'll probably rely more on that 2-3 matchup zone, as he is notoriously slow of foot. They also employ a 1-3-1 full-court press, with Mbaraza to play goalkeeper in the back. Their game relies on creating turnovers and turning them into points, so they run fairly often. When forced into a half-court situation, they used to dump the ball down to former captain Gary Hale and let him work, or try to draw their defenders out of the lane so that somebody can drive. With the retirement of Hale from international play and his replacement by Mbaraza, the low post game is going to be somewhat less emphasized. Look for them to try to get Mbaraza involved on alley-oops and other plays where he's less than five feet from the basket. Otherwise, the guards are going to have to pick up much of the scoring slack. Omar Martin should help with that, and Fischer+Braxton at the 3 and 4 spots provide some serious athleticism.

METROPOLON - In last season's International Basketball Championships, the St. Kanye Surge national basketball team went undefeated in the group stages and hurdled all kinds of opponents (and even a riot) to make it to the best-of-five title series against world #1 Ko-oren. The boys in purple and lime easily dismantled the Ko-orenites in the first game, 86-58, before dropping the next two by relatively small margins, 69-72 and 73-81. In danger of losing in their first-ever IBC finals appearance, the Surge fought hard in Game 4, winning 77-72 and forcing the series to go the whole distance. Joint team captains James Blackwell and Darren Overton's heroics enabled the Yeezies to claw back from a 35-53 halftime deficit in Game 5 to force overtime, and capture the IBC 20 gold medal by a score of 95 to 83. A jubilant Kanyean crowd poured out of Ceni's Cenial Pavilion, where the final was held; the same scene unfolded in the streets of Kardashia, Jalton, Claxton and other major cities.

Surge head coach Paulie Brewster loved it as much as the fans did, and vowed to take the IBC 21 title to the Glorious Free Republic beside the one from IBC 20. We caught up with him during the team's practice at The Ring arena in Metropolon, Drawkland. St. Kanye, now the world's third-ranked basketball nation, is placed in Group F, which plays its matches here. The Royal Kingdom of Quebec, who rose to world #2 despite a semifinals exit at the hands of the Surge, co-host this season's IBC with Drawkland, with the former taking care of Groups A to D and the latter providing venues for Groups E to H.

"We absolutely gained the attention of the international basketball community after becoming the defending champs. That makes us feared, hated, loved. We're a little bit more confident and a little bit more wary. All these emotions, but we should never let those control us, instead we must control them, keep our composure, and win. One game at a time", said the 51-year-old Brewster, who then added the three words that helped his boys to not take any team, minnow or powerhouse, lightly last season: "Anything can happen". The short motto has proved so popular that it has been a staple in everyday Kanyean conversation, in addition to being used by an insurance giant (endorsed by no other than the Coach himself), printed on purple-and-lime Surge fan shirts and trending online.

The Surge's strategy of playing around with different offense and defense formation during the Ko-oren series will still be in full effect in IBC 21, as they are expected to play opponents of varying size and skill set. Groupmates include Vettrera, Jarwel and Amouraland, three of the twenty-one first-time IBC competitors; #36 Banija, known more for gridiron than basketball; and what maybe the toughest test for the Kanyean squad, #10 Banguela, IBC 20 fourth placers.

TEAM SPOTLIGHT: #2 ROYAL KINGDOM OF QUEBEC

The IBC 21 co-hosts, placed in Group A, are poised to take over the top hoops ranking from Ko-oren if they play with the same intensity as they did in the IBC 20 group stages, and beyond. Playing in front of an intense home crowd, and backed by the violent "Bubonic Plague" support group, will be a huge motivating factor for the team that calls itself the "Grim Reapers".

TEAM SPOTLIGHT: #7 ABANHFLEFT

The Rebolusyonaryos, of Group B, called former national team players Hayden Dorola and Allan Salcedo out of retirement to rejoin the squad and help the team break the trend of falling short in the playoff stages. It will be interesting to see how the two, now 38 and 37 respectively, will do against younger stars from other national teams. The relatively short Fleftic side also add 7'5" giant Jazz Higgs to the mix for some much-needed size. Jazz's mother Kristen Higgs (nee Schimp) is actually Kanyean, moving with her family from Jalton City to Riuwiee when she was six.

TEAM SPOTLIGHT: #8 SAINTLAND

The Sanctii figured that the reason for them being booted out of the IBC 20 quarters by Banguela is the absence of center Prince Ioannes, and so the fan favorite was reintroduced to the former three-peat (IBC 14, 15, 16) squad. The old-style ball movement also returns, and the Sanctii hopes that their old-style intensity does, as well. Saintland will play in Group G, what we'll call the "Group of Death", together with the #4 Vangaziland Royals (back with a Vangazi vengeance after that shock Round of 16 exit at the hands of the Frenline Delpha Anacondas) and the #23 Abaja Lions (who had a solid group stage, and would surely have gone further if not for close R16 losses to the Ceni Snakes).
