The Eagle's Cup :: VI :: Rosters, RP, Scores

The Eagle's Club is proud to present Eagles Cup VI, a modern era re-incarnation of the historic Eagle's Cup. 16 esteemed nations from throughout the multiverse will compete over 9 Matchdays* to lift the Eagle's Cup and earn their place in the Eagle's Club, securing their place as a competitor and potential host in future Eagle's Cups.

Format :: The 16 nations will be split into 4 groups of 4 teams. In each group, the 4 teams will play each other nation twice, once at a stadium of their choosing and once at a stadium of their opponents choosing. From there, the top 2 nations in the group table will advance to the Quarter Finals which will be held at an official Eagle's Club location. The winners of the Quarter Final matches will receive a special trophy from the Eagle's Club that also grants the nations honorary status with the Eagle's Club for one competition cycle. The final four nations will advance to the Semi-Finals and then those winners to the Championship match, where the winner will be crowned champion and granted entry into the Eagle's Club. A third place playoff will also be contested back at the Eagle's Club.

Eligible Participants :: The bylaws of the Eagle's Club restrict entry into the Eagle's Cup as follows:

Eagle's Club Members - Maximum 12 entrants into the Eagle's Cup
Eagle's Cup Semi-Finalists - Maximum 3 Entrants into the Eagle's Cup
Non-Member Applicants - Minimum 1 Entrant into the Eagle's Cup

Should the Eagle's Club contain fewer than 12 member nations, or should fewer than 12 member nations send a delegation to the Eagle's Cup, the Eagle's Club member's allocation to the Cup shall be reduced accordingly. The Eagle's Club shall fill these slots with Non-Member nations by means of Selection, Invitation or Application as necessary to fill the field.

Should the previous cycles Eagle's Cup semi-finalists include Eagle's Club members, or, should any of the previous cycles Eagle's Cup Semi-Finalists fail to send a delegation to the Eagle's Cup, the Eagle's Club Semi-Finalist's allocation to the Cup shall be reduced accordingly. The Eagle's Club shall fill these slots with Non-Member nations by means of Selection, Invitation or Application as necessary to fill the field.

Eagle's Club :: The eligibility of Eagle's Club members Eauz and Kingsford is not expected to be exercised during Eagle's Cup VI. As the once independent nation of Bedistan is now part of the Unified Capitalizt States, the Eagle's Club membership and reserved place in the Eagle's Cup is extended to the Unified Capitalizt States. Eagle's Club members the Island Emirate of Turori and the Grand Union of Nephara remain active and are expected to participate as competitors and/or hosts.

Eagle's Cup V Semi Finalists :: As an existing member of the Eagle's Club, Turori do not require selection via the Eagle's Cup path. The one-cycle Eagle's Club pass earned by The Calanian Union during Eagle's Cup V is extended to the nations modern incarnation, Mertagne. The Holy Empire also holds temporary Eagle's Club status due to their performance finishing 4th in Eagle's Cup V.

Non-Members :: Per the bylaws, the 3 slots vacated by absent or already qualified delegations, as well as the 8 tournament slots that have gone unreserved due to the small size of the Eagle's Club, a total of 11 slots, shall be decided upon by the Eagle's Club Council, currently represented by the Island Emirate of Turori and the Grand Union of Nephara.

At least 1 Additional slot in the Eagle's Cup is available to a nation selected by the Eagle's Club who has submitted an application to theEagles Club. Additional slots may be made available to non-member applicants if selected delegations are unable to participate.

The Eagle's Club have decided to allocate the 11 vacated competition slots in two groups, the Eagle's Select and the Eagle's Invitation. The Eagle's Select will include prior Eagle's Cup participants recognized for their past contributions to the Eagle's Cup. These nations include Legalese and Vilita, both of whom participated in Eagle's Cup IV and Eagle's Cup V but did not qualify for automatic invitation through Final Four placement. Up to 4 additional nations will be announced as Eagle's Select. The remainder of the vacated slots will be filled by the Eagle's Invitation recipients.

As Invitations are sent out, and delegations formed, all participants will be informed. The draw for groups will take place once 16 Delegations have been identified and the competition will start at the conclusion of the World Cup Final.

San José Guayabal (SJG) National Team

The Guayabalense NT in the last cycle

Those promises about the next cycle just when La Selecta returned to a World Cup after a couple of years after WC 70 weren't wrong, and despite a weak start losing at Estadio Cuscatlán vs Jeruselem on WC 73, La Selecta managed to recover pretty good and won ten games in the qualifiers, including two victories against Gregoryisgodistan, being the most important one that 1-3 away win at Gregoryisgodistani lands. Qualifying as the first place in the group again and with a good position in the group were enough to feed the hopes to qualify to the Round of 16, and those hopes were confirmed after winning the group unbeaten with just one goal against in a group including Polar Islandstates, Farfadillis and Schottia, then the desired door to the Round of 16 was open and Kandorith was the rival, somehow La Selecta won the game and qualified for Quarter-finals and the illusions appeared among the fans, we were in front of the best national team in the history of San José Guayabal, they made more illusions after winning Cosumar with a lone goal and with that qualifying for Semifinals, expectations and illusions were high and people wanted the final but Eura was in front, the Eurans won all their previous games on that cycle with easiness and big amounts of goals on those games. With a smart sense of the game, La Selecta stood against the Eurans and kept them nil-nil in ninety minutes and then going to the penalty kicks after the Eurans tied the game with a late goal, in a mad penalty kick series, the Eurans won the game, 13-12 on penalties but that wasn't bad for the Guayabalense team, they already made history and they achieved more after winning the third place of the World Cup against Vilita with a 4-2 win.

After a CE that put every Guayabalense to dream with an extraordinary participation, reaching the final for the first time ever, with a splendid offense and a extraordinary defense performance, they were ready to face Nephara, but the dream of winning it came to an abrupt dead end, an horrorific 1-5 defeat finished the wonderful run into the tournament, despite that, people is happy by the fact of reaching a CE final for the first time. In WC 74, being hosted back in San José Guayabal, illusion arose at the highest levels, La Selecta didn't disappointed and performed well, beating strong rivals such as Farfadilis, Audioslavia in order to do the dream and achieve the first World Cup Final appearance for La Selecta, a fatidic penalty kick roulette kept the Guayabalenses away from achieving their biggest sporting glory ever. After an intense World Cup, the managers decided to bring for the CE a team fully made from Liga Premier players in order to relax the usual players, except for Leónidas Bregoo and Sebastián Núñez, who will be the experience bulwarks for the new Selecta while a new rising force of players might be the trident who causes danger to the rivals, such as Humberto Santa Cruz, the Liga Premier top scorer, Kevin Santos and Omar El Sayed, it was a great decision that gave La Selecta 28 goals in 6 games but Racao kicked the team out of the CE at the Quarterfinals, despite that, it was a good performance for an alternative national team.

In this World Cup 75, La Selecta had a new challenge, being at their best moment ever, but since the very beginning, the World Cup Group stage semeed to be a catastrophe, since a rather mediocre participation at that competition, with early defeats vs debutants Bonesea and historical Vilita, getting a bit of redemption against Electrum but not being enough to get past the Group Stage, now, coming to the Eagles Cup, La Selecta wants to come back to that level of football that they achieved back on the WC 73 and 74 period that took them to the highest positions that Guayabalense football has ever reached, now getting a win will be key for the team, as they are confident that they can recover the level.

After undesirable results in the World Cup 71 Qualifiers, La Selecta decided to start a reengineering in its game system, after proving that a good defence is not something from other planet, receiving fifteen goals in fourteen matches during the World Cup 71, a new slightly defensive system was established in the team, featuring for the first time a line of four midfielderss, trying to block the highest number of possibilities of the rival team, also including a rookie into the team, Abraham Terrazas is having his first experience as the goalkeeper of the Starting XI, with one midfielder who can have a rol of defence like Núñez, this team is probably a quite defensive version of La Selecta. A key aspect that changes a bit from the other lineups used throughout the history, is the use of two strikers instead, in order to keep the offensive capacity that has characterized the football of the National Team and maybe the bastion of the whole Guayabalense football.

The "home" roster of SJG features the use three defenders with some experience like James Moreira and Meyson Salume, both can act as key players if we talk about the realization of transitions to offensive plays meanwhile Passarelli is the team sweeper and also most experienced of the team in terms of playing in the international scene, specifically in UICA tournaments. In the midfield we can see a rhombus shaped position of four players, being Saucedo and Bregoo a kind of fake forwards due to the changing role of the tactical system that can feature five forwards in case of need and Núñez together with Valencia can be sort of defence in case of need. In resume this strategy helps in defence and attacking because it can turn into a 3-2-5 in attacking moments or a 5-2-3 in defending moments, creating a complete system that can help the team to achieve victory at any cost.

The entire team hunts the ball and, in the ideal case, immediately wins it back from the opponent. The aim is to prevent the opponent’s counterattack and to win the ball. People may call it counterpressing or even "Geggenpressing"but in the end the opponent’s counterattack is pressured and forced to commit mistakes, that's Presión Fulminante.

Game style: The game who SJG does is essentially technical, based on the agility of movement from the players, using their intelligence for the game to find lone spaces and perform single passes that are very accurate and "in depth", they like to accumulate players while attacking or using the surprise factor which is use the speed of the players to perform counter attacks that usually have a good level of effectivity, taking in consideration that this is a team who thinks in score the goals as fast as possible instead of defending (Well known as "The Kill or Die Philosophy." Which is the most used tactic on Guayabalense football throughout his history), something that they do even when they face a football powerhouse or a extremely offensive team, no matter the rival, the objective is score the highest amount of goals and win the three points.

In the defence area, they tend to use physical game style in order to set conditions to the rivals, despite that the defenders are of medium height, they are well known for their skill at aerial game, so it is very difficult to beat them, specially in corners or set pieces, expect always fair play from this team, avoiding to do fouls into the last 25-30 meters of their defence area.

Players normally like to do long-distance shots or seek for chances in aerial game via set pieces or corners, specially with Árbol Saucedo and Mattías Passarelli, who are the tallest players of the entire squad. Still, this team can do some special moves, considering the idea of the team of never give up and trying to be efficient while attacking.

The Managers

Paulo Oliveira 46 Y/O, Nationality: Valladar

Strict, offensive and organized are three words that describes the new manager of San José Guayabal National Team, former player of the one time Globe Cup champions, Marinos Metrópolis (He coached on the final series) and them he served to Marinos and helped them to achieve the best positions on the Valladar Liga-1, going to Champions' League berths or Globe Cup berths, his seasons on charge of Marinos showed always a nice display of game, being direct, offensive and with high pressure to the rival defenders, a manager who tends to be strict but motivating to the players of the National Team, Oliveira is one of those managers with a high devotion to football and his environment, specially the ones like the Guayabalense football atmosphere, with a lot of pressure and expectations from the fans and the Football Federation itself. His arrival to La Selecta has already received good criticism, as being "one of the best decisions that the FGF could have made", considering the zestful and strict character of Oliveira, good results can be expected from a renovated National Team.

Alfredo Herrera 68 Y/O, Nationality: Aquillian (Part of Osarius)

We've all heard the anecdotes about Aquillian's national football team manager Alfredo Herrera, and how he is sometimes "endearingly zany". His open training sessions during some friendlies, or at tournaments like the the Cup of Harmony or WCQ, reveal some -- but not the full extent of his preparations. He stands on the touchline, barking the same orders over and over until they are followed perfectly. "Retreat! Retreat now!" he barks at his wingbacks during one exercise. "You have less than seven seconds to return or they will pierce the gap!" His barking continues. "Release immediately! No hesitation! No delay! Control, release, move! Control, release, move!" His players are practicing to execute his commands with such speed and efficiency, they appear almost instinctive. The level is intense. He shuffles things around. Rotates players. Alters the tempo. Introduces more rules. Removes rules. The withdrawal, surveying and tinkering process repeats itself several times over before he appears satisfied. "Excellent! This is how we go! This is how we win!" He finally bestows some praise upon his players.

Starting XI Bio

Abraham Terrazas 21 Y/O, Goalkeeper of Izotz Zubia (AUD)

Maybe the youngest keeper on the history of the National Team, Terrazas was even more young when he left to the Audioslavian powerhouse Izotz Zubia, though his youngness was a limitant to be on the starting XI, he took advantage of any chance he had to demonstrate his best level of game, through the time, Terrazas has been climbing to the top in his club, after some time. After a disaster caused by Henry Hernández on World Cup 71, Terrazas was chosen by Oliveira and Herrera to be the new GK, his age wan't a reason to intimidate him and the circumstances weren't a factor too, giving important reasons to pick him as the defensive bulwark of the team in key moments, especially in CoH 63 final when he saved a penalty kick to the legendary Vanorian striker Laborious Hawk and giving it the first WCC Sanctioned tournament victory to San José Guayabal, also, his participation in WC 72 and especially WC 73 has been a key to secure excellent performances for La Selecta.

James Moreira 23 Y/O, Left Back of Trothwands Evolution (OSR)

Young but experienced, Moreira is the typical player who can receive love or hate, his special location in the roster mades him a key player in terms related to defending, being the sweeper but also being one of the creators of the game, despite falling in nerves sometimes the youngest of their football dynasty family as the Moreiras are, his good leadership and attitude makes him being an excellent player in the team since early WC 66, as the time passes, Moreira has consolidated himself into one of those players who do above average performances, a passionated player who dedicates and performs always to the 100% is useful. His main characteristics are: phisical and aggressive player, pretty temperamental player, one of the players with whom the opponent must be careful while facing him.

Mattías Passarelli 29 Y/O, Centre Back of Avenida Leal (FFD)

The oldest of the defenders in the Starting XI and also the one with more experience in the team, Mattías played in the NT since they were an almost amateur-ish side, he played in Alianza FC and achieved three titles, enough to do his move to the Yttribian powerhouse of Delare Minon, when he got another three league tournaments including one solid run in the UICA Globe Cup made him a worship idol for the fans of the team. After several political problems in Yttribia and the relegation of Delare Minon, he decided to leave the club and Passarelli wasn't active for almost two and a half years, he just accumulated NT caps during that time but he always was the same defender, an active and agressive centre back, media and fans were pressing to stop calling him to the NT due to his lack of professional activity but an offer from the Farf side of Avenida Leal was enough to make him signing with them and keeping his position on the national team.

Meyson Salume 22 Y/O, Right Back of Revolutionaries (EUR)

The reliable Salume is back, after being injured for some matches, the strongest player of the teams is now in action to keep the order in the defence, his role is defend but he does the task of midfielder quite often, his strong point of being tall makes him an ideal player to keep the National Team without many troubles, but his slow speed can make some trouble over there, and can do more due to his motivaion caused due to his arrival to Polarian lands, where he did a decent performance, consolidating himself into the most reliable player of the defence, but after leaving for some time due to The Big Polarian Freeze, he returned to San José Guayabal and got hired fastly by Atlético Nacional, despite the team did some bad performances in the last years, Salume has prevented that those already bad performances could have turned into a nightmare for the "Nationalist Squad" and then he turned into the captain that they have needed for a long time.

Rudy Valencia 28 Y/O, Defensive Midfielder (Destroyer) of FC Kolberg (SEM)

Spiel: Just when you thought the Grim Reapers have finally broken through the barriers, they are now going through transition phase of their own. With Frederic Beauchemin, Eugene Cohen and Adrian Middleton retiring into the sunset, that makes some of the most memorable players to ride into the sunset while the other cornerstones- 23-year tenured Zachary Fortin, rock solid Karl Varsteeg, and ever-so-calm Devane Miller - are all soon heading to retirement. With this we see a squad in transition, as few fresh-faced players take in charge forward: most notable of them are Gloire-Honore Mvouba III has been charging the Rene Skae Colonels with spectacular 25-goal campaign as an 19-year old, Arsenal teammates and good buddies Joo Weon Park and Eugene McNair making big-time appearances for the Arsenal, and Henri Kierkegaard delivering as expected in New Gelderland. While it's yet to be seen on whether they will be replacing the void left over, especially on midfields and left backs where depth is there but not at elite level after their respective starters, will remain intriguing to be seen.

Meanwhile, the squad carries the relatively intact lineup, with the swapping of Fortin to bench for the first time in 23 years to accomodate GHM3 being the only major personnel change. The defenders have remained the very same and likewise for midfields. Xavier Hertel, the world-class playboy also known for a) captaining CD FAS and b) dating Princess Anna of Jeruselem, is back and should contribute as. A couple have moved up and swapped positions though: Angelo Gelinas is now the starting striker uno, after getting rewarded for phenomenal campaigns with Avenida Principal the last 2 seasons on what's probably the most impressive of career rejuvenation anybody and their mother have ever seen, while CD FAS superstar Hazel van Robben, the only player right now who also operates a weed brand of her own, is now stationed at striker as opposed to right wing. Whether these changes will prove to be an upgrade we'll have to see on, but they for one should work at least.

While the Grim Reapers may be going through some transitioning struggles, they nonetheless are convinced that they can do well and hope for a better finishing than last time. With The Bubonic Plague cheering for them, can they do it? We'll see.

Like Toraandal, Lardireil is used to getting into the attack, having spent the majority of his career at Hondo with their attacking flavor. However he has the speed of a cheetah and the strength of an elephant, most likely the most versatile of the three defenders that the side uses.

Coming from Mar Sara you would expect Haerear to be more of an attacking option, yet the midfielder is more of a box to box playmaker than the attacking midfielders usually coming from the Flames. Hawk simply strives to be the very best footballer, captain, and teammate that there can be, with the hunger for perfection driving him forth on and off the pitch.

Lithvathar is much like va Drake, a floater who is dynamic in attack but with enough speed and sense of the pitch to make up on any sort of defensive lapse. Yet unlike her flankmate, she is not nearly as skilled, but do not let that fool you, in a moment of magic she can undress an entire backline and set up more prolific scorers with easy chances.

Soldarian continues to live in the shadow of more well known players both on the national team and with his club. When head coach Nycflala Kater took a back seat early in the competition during AOCAF 42, however, Disterfred had his chance to play as Vilita & Turori earned their second consecutive AOCAF title. However, Disterfred's domestic career took a negative turn when Inura Forests were relegated out of the Vilitan League, prompting a cross-country transfer to the Kionao Locals in the Declasse division. Despite the strong leadership of Lita Adjei and good performances in the UICA Competitions, Kionao was unable to get promoted and eventually Disterfred would move to Turoki Isle in order to get a chance to play in the Stellar Division. Having played his whole career in Vilita, Disterfred was eventually convinced to return home to Turori when the chance to play at Cednia Beach AFC was presented, Disterfred being named the replacement for retiring Vilitan netminder Jaqe Planst.

Tuirma will certainly be starting as a substitute during their debut campaign in World Cup 62 but may get the chance to start against weaker opposition. After being brought up through the academy system at Kionao, Tuirma signed a professional contract with Colonial Sile in Vilita for Season 35, winning silverware in the first match, the Tropical Trophy triumph over Strike. Tuirma's stay in Sile didn't last long, however, coaxed back to the luxury of Arcticala Inlet to help in their Champions-Cup qualifying campaign of Season 38. Tuirma returned to Turori during Season 44 as a member of Mliona-Lpaka AFC

"Come in already." muttered the Gardevoir, the Eagles' Cup invite on hands. He had been on a hotel at Kjelstad for the last two weeks, following the Sunrisians as they surprisingly managed to get to the World Cup final. Jean Mulhouse saw this year as the most important one in Sunrisian football history. The league was now to have a grand total of sixty-four teams, a number never before seen, many pondering the justifications of it. Still, some things needed a touch or two, which he was to work on as soon as the World Cup finished, a short period of time before the UICA came knocking in. Surprise from the cyborg as the Pokémon took off the sunglasses he had on his head, raising himself from his bending chair, all with the power of his mind. "I think you do forget that I'm a psychic Pokémon more often than you should, Mr. Hibiki."
The Mr. Hibiki, in fact, was Ryo Hibiki. The Hibiki Zaibatsu had somehow elevated itself to a sort of partner to the Sunrisian football scene. USIFC's lenient stance over many things allowed businesses to fill in the voids and after RyoCo Technologies, the tech branch of the Zaibatsu took interest on helping the national teams, Jean would often find himself relying on Hibiki and his partners. After all, Jean was a pokémon. Incorruptible. And Ryo himself had already noted what were his plans, a raise on cyborg numbers thanks to football.
Jean wasn't all that happy to help per se, even if there wasn't anything shady about this. Their relationship was fair, though Jean knew that as the head of the Football Confederation, he couldn't let things such as a smart talking businessman with robotic implants cloud the wonderful Sunrisian football scene. He had seen what happened on Apox recently, enough of a reason to be even sharper.

"Well, sir." Ryo smiled. "Good to see you're sharp as ever. You look a bit different from last time we met. Is it the Sun?"
"I used a little break." Jean shot back. "It's quite stressful to follow the Sunrisians these days. Though I'm glad we're on the final."
"I noticed." The musclebound Ryo sat to Jean's side, sighing. "It's a shame our agreement didn't come earlier. If this team had cyborgs, we'd be on the top of the cientifical community around the multiverse."
"If I do recall, Mr. Hibiki, technology isn't measured by the amount of people that use your enhancements but rather progress on the many fields of experimentation and development." The Gardevoir put his glasses back on. "I additionally sense you might be slightly unpleased that the numbers haven't rose to the measure you expected."
"Not totally." Ryo replied. "It's a good number of people, just needed to re-work my predictions. Our accountants didn't mind."
"...Fired them?"
"Why would I?" Ryo smiled. "I believe in strength of heritage as much as I believe in strength of pionerism. Besides, why fire others for a prediction I spearheaded?"
The Gardevoir stared at him, not trying to read his mind, but rather trying to understand the man's idea.
"I like to consider myself humble. Plus, it's nice to work at different sections and eventually add a couple of ideas to our national plans."
"You're a mystery sometimes, Mr. Hibiki." Jean sighed, picking up a glass of cold tea with his mind and then taking a sip.

"I came to talk about the rumors of an invite to the Eagle's Cup." Ryo declared, breaking the ten minute silence.
"I read your mind, you seem to have one of those of your ideas in mind, I take." The Gardevoir said, looking at the man. "Then again, for the first time on a while, we get an invite that is useful for status but almost pointless otherwise."
"It does feature some pretty big teams." Ryo noted. "But I assumed this would be too much of a load, so I have an idea that would work for us all. You get to save your main team from injuries on the tournament, I get to display my technology even more and the Nova state gets to show their skills."
"...So you clawed yourself a little something at that area, didn't you?" Jean sighed mentally. "Maybe this is the one moment I was waiting to take you out of the list of partners?"
"Relax, Mulhouse." Ryo sighed. "We've been helping the country with this since the start. Most of their population consists of past and current RyoCo workers and their families, many having worked on the company since our earliest android designs."
"So what you're saying is that colony is full cyborg?"
"Not really." The head of the RyoCo once again tried to smile and get some sympathy from the leader of the USIFC. "Not full, at least. We allowed our workers to pick whether or not they would have our implants. We also have lower prices for our products over there, which means a good chunk of the population decided to go with it. Turns out they're pretty handy for living up in the sky."
"And you're trying to sweeten a deal with me for your pet project?" Jean once again stared at him.
"Well... If it doesn't hurt. It's not like this tournament is on top of your competitive plans, but not accepting an invite would be trully disappointing."
"I don't mind it. Feel free." Jean nodded, laying down on his chair again. "Just remember that if I find out your team did anything to break the rules determined by the Club, your chances of managing the Northern Sunrisians will be very small next Campionato."

"For the record, dear." said Ayumi, her arms crossed as she stared at the team she was meant to coach.
A group of "homegrown kids". Lab Kids if you may. They were raised by the hands of the Zaibatsu much earlier.
"I know you're thinking this is insane." He said, staring at them. "But there's no ill wish from me. This is progress. We might be helping the future right here."
Part of the Neo-Povus plan to populate these new Artificial Areas.
The Sunrisians now wanted to take over the skies, people were needed.
Soon the Floating Artificial Area would be something bigger than just Nova.
And the Zaibatsu knew it.
Hell, they had a good hand over it.
"Please, my love..." asked Ryo. "Think of it like you're doing maternal training."
"...That doesn't make things better in the slightest."
"Well, think about it." Ryo noted, smiling afterwards. "Besides, who knows what their foster parents will do once they arrive here."
"...You mean-"
"Yes, you're doing humanitarian work. They might even have a city for you on the Hope Belt Expansion deal. Ayumi City." He smiled. "Like Byrd. DuBeaux. Matthew. Selyne. Thunchester."
The woman look at them. All teens, seemingly scared.
"Well, at least it's a good person doing this. I'm in."

National Info: The Unified Sunrise Islands are, in fact, the religious union of many countries whose names have Sunrise Islands. According to the Liro d'Arceus, a book where the religion of Arceusism is based after; the Sunrise Islands were formed by Arceus to guarantee peace and order. At one point, however, those rules ended up being forgotten by a good portion of the people, so Arceus sent Pokémon to carry its' word. After a brief while with both creatures coexisting, they all came to a term and the Sunrisians then became the people to carry the word of Arceus and follow its' principles.

At first, there was only one Sunrise Islands, known as the Northern Sunrise Islands. They are the most memorable name among the Sunrise Islands and also the one responsible for most of its' accolades. However, that doesn't exclude the other Sunrise Islands, all generated by other PokéDeities who, bored and inspired by Arceus, decided to take a try and create their own pieces of land on different realms. It wouldn't take long for almost all of the Sunrise Islands to end on a secondary realm, where, after the Kirigiri-no-Mikoto incident, all Sunrise Islands ended up joining the realm of the Northern Sunrise Islands. As a result of how out of hand the situation became, there is at least one Sunrise Island for each direction known to any being, even Up and Down; though reports say that they once considered having an All-Around, but that would sound "like a plan of a Spinda" and the closest to that are the Ferris Wheels still on existence at the Sunrise Islands.

Sunrisians mostly use English as their main language, seeing as most of the countries involved, for some rather helpful coincidence, all speak English with some other language but considering most of the Sunrisians have a thing for foreign culture, it's not rare to see that some weird group of people speak your language, even if it's way hidden and original and full of diacritics. In the end, the Sunrisians are a peaceful bunch, only getting to arms when really needed. They consider Pokémon Battling to be a thing, are starting to get used to cars yet have already developed a cure for a bunch of stuff. That's the Sunrise for you. And that's why most people love it.

One step forwards, two steps backwards for a Llamanean side that horrifically underperformed during the Qualifiers - while Trevor Duncan’s calming influence steadied thing after Vaz’s resignation, a depressing loss to Lons on the final matchday led to the Tigers missing out on the playoff round entirely. At a very important Cup of Harmony, the Tigers managed to do passably under new manager Jurgen Reichart, but were upset by Anglatia in the quarterfinals, leaving many unimpressed. Will their first invitation to the Eagle’s Cup change things?

Lindberg’s athleticism is remarkable, he's high in stamina, and he's already shown a natural gift for positioning - although he can sometimes be a bit mistake heavy. Named the nation's best college player consecutive years.
#20 - L/RB - Kris STRAUSBERG - BSC Vargas (SLL) - 28
Kris Strausberg is a rather...unique player. For one thing, after a horrific bus crash suffered when he was sixteen, he no longer has a left arm. For another thing, he’s exceptionally fast, but tends to leverage this into making bold runs up either flank rather than actually keeping up with the opponent's’ attackers. Still, his strong on-ball play and passable marking make him a valuable asset.
#06 - CB - Kurt REICHART - Francesca Orient (BRE) - 27
A six-three, hard-nosed center back who tends to rack up cards. After earning a reputation as New Llama's defensive anchor with his play and leadership, he made a move abroad to the A-League. Strong aerially, not particularly athletic (but not particularly unathletic, either).

An extremely smart fullback who's dropped back to sweeper in his club career. Exceptional last line of defense and his football savvy coupled with immense speed and agility is huge.

A very quick center-back who's willing to sacrifice her body to stop shots and make tackles. A smart player with strong positioning and a knack for anticipating passes, who’s also usable as a man-marker.
#26 - LC/RCB - Immanuel KANE - Phalanx AF (CEN) - 33
Despite lacking the physical tools of, say, Jorgenson, the half-Eirelian is incredibly underrated, with great intuition and positioning. A solid man-marker who can lead any back line and is exceptionally polished, Kane should be able to find a spot in the defense - a capable left foot helps his case as well. A nightmare qualification campaign where he made heaps of mistakes, though, might find him on the bench for stretches of the CoH.
#02 - L/RB - Michael SORENSON - Eastweald (COS) - 29
Many a player is to said to have “came out of nowhere”, like past NT members Jack Saucedo and Stefan Bogusevic. Sorenson, however, truly came out of nowhere - Brookport Athletic reports that at sixteen, Sorenson went to a tryout, excelled, and signed onto the team without any previous record of experience - in fact, Sorenson wasn’t even Eirelian. Still, he’s a frighteningly good player considering his lack of a background - fast enough to play up the wings, strong enough to play a very good defense, and a mainstay on the back four for years to come.

#05 - DM - Ethan CANDELARIO - Goodfeather FC (NPH) - 27
A bruising, physical midfielder with decent but uninspiring passing touch isn’t the sort of player you’d expect to find on the Tigers. But previous editions of the team’s midfield seemed unable to provide anything in terms of defense (the Tigers’ best midfield pairing, Kyle Sturgeon and Jake Wiggins, were both playmakers who played defense sparingly, a model that recent teams have tried to emulate), and somebody like Candelario should be able to hold down the fort. Will be given a shot, especially after a few solid campaigns in the first and second tiers of the Nepharim leagues.
#07 - CM - Stefan RINALDI - Kyrinson (SLL) - 18
A flashy playmaker who turned heads with his strong play at Kyrinson - along with Nepharim striker Jayce Alnwick, the two led Kyrinson to the Globe Cup. Rinaldi is arrogant off the pitch, but on the pitch he is both confident and selfless. Not much of a goalscorer, and at five-eight practically useless in the air, but someone who can clinically taken apart defenses with his creative passing and flashy runs. Somewhat unproven.
#18 - CM/RM - Reid ADRIAN - Cenial United (CEN) - 28
Questionably Llamanean but undoubtedly talented, Adrian decided to join his grandfather’s home country in order to have a shot at the World Cup. Adrian has a very good passing touch and is athletic enough to keep pace with opposing attackers. A right-midfielder by trade, Adrian has adapted to his new position (a move from Oslerholm to Centurion helped as well) and has done a great job at it. Should start somewhere, but he’s still quite shaky on the wings.
#30 - LW - Eva VELASQUEZ - Myana (CMT) - 22
The promising if raw Velasquez is fast and agile. However, while one would expect Velasquez, who trained in AC Bartolome's academy for three years, to adopt a flashier playstyle, she's instead far more direct and focused - although she can use tricks to get out of a pinch, she'll rarely use them if she doesn't have to. Velasquez's shot is somewhat raw, although she is a decent distributor.
#15 - DM/CAM - Harry KARJALAINEN - Carnival Samba (USI) - 22
Karjalainen is quick, relentlessly athletic, and not afraid to get physical, but is very unpolished and tends to rack up cards. Relatively unknown, a strong showing at the Campionato springboarded him into a spot with Carnival Samba and the shortlist.
#09 - CAM/ST - Felix RASMUSSEN - Cenial United (CEN) - 29
Recklessly incisive, Rasmussen is prone to playing out of position. However, he does have the potential to excel in a more free-floating role, as well as the technique and speed to keep up, making him a vital cog to this edition of the Tigers. However, he also possesses a new maturity after spending four years playing abroad in Ceni - while Rasmussen himself still prefers playing everywhere on the pitch, he can confine himself to a more confined position if necessary, and Vaz will appreciate the tactical flexibility Rasmussen brings to the table.
#50 - CAM - James CHEN - Norrion Rovers (EFL) - 30
The previously unheralded James Chen has continued his solid play for Norrion Rovers, flashing signs of potential by coupling devastating playmaking abilities with a very good shot. Still, although he’d like to give 100% every day, growing injury concerns are starting to become a concern, and he’s still inconsistent.
#11 - AM - Miroslav VOROBYOV - FC Samotath (COS) - 28
Born in New Llama City to immigrant parents, Miro Vorobyov moved back to Eyrelia at age nineteen, seeking out his roots while playing for the small club Zazrak Athletic. The skinny, teenager was a revelation for Zazrak, almost single-handedly carrying them to promotion into the Eyrelian Premier League. Despite having to adjust to the extremely physical EyPL in an unfamiliar position (due to the team’s signing of Hakifao star Herlek Jansen), he still performed very well and secured a transfer to defending champions Red Star, where he’s continued to develop into a complete attacking-midfielder. His quick, incisive presence, intelligence with the ball, and ability to break defenses with his runs makes him best on the flanks or as a WC74 Felix Rasmussen-esque free-floating CAM, although he’s still not the strongest player.

The parliamentary republic of Zwangzug, an antisocial social democracy now approaching its tenth birthday (the decimal system is passe) has a long and--dare we say it--checkered history. The original national team competed through World Cup (qualifying campaign)s 33 through 42; a successor team participated in 64 through 69. After a hiatus caused by the country's sudden and devastating retreat into isolationism, a temporary recovery was made, and the national league (the 1./) which had emerged with the second iteration of the NT resumed play. (The only attempt at sending a national team of any kind to anything was a very confused baseball team in a friendly against Stvoto Latoli, though.) Modern bragging rights, such as they are, include Eintracht Trink's victory at the Randoil Diamond Challenge.

Apsar, formerly of Namiri Independent, was the best-available talent willing to sign up on the spur of the moment for what's presumably going to be a one-off. Guttuso and Idoni are probably the best players, and have spent a long time playing together in Bassabook (where they finished second in the somewhat-recent Champions' Cup 64) and earlier. Having the three most attacking-minded players (including the lone striker) all be female is a change from stereotype, although the (1)-4-5-1 midfield X will be very familiar to anyone who watched the team's second iteration. Other ~~narratives~~ storylines to keep an eye on include the secessionist crisis in the rural south which...we're going to say was resolved prior to this but might do flashbacks or something, and also general feelings of political dissent that might or might not be related to replacing one nerdy set of board game allusions with a zillion more. Or we could just ignore that and carry on.

More than you probably wanted to know about Zwangzug can be found in our factbook, unless what you wanted to know was...relevant to modern happenings such as the football team/league, in which case probably you're out of luck until the biographer is motivated to go back to work. You can also godmod events, though I'd appreciate advance warning if you want to take narrative liberties that I couldn't just as easily do to your team (due to being, e.g., an MT, all-human country). Put another way, metaphorical "godmodding" is welcome if clever, but I'd avoid the literal sense.

Eagle's Cup VI

Tumbran National Football Team

The manager is Robin Stoff, 57 - appointed to the job after the sacking of Colin Guthries six matches into the World Cup qualification cycle. He is due to helm the team with a view for the long run. As the final cup of this World Cup cycle, many players will be saying good-bye to the team following this competition, as one last hurrah.

1 Ryan Hughes (28) - GK (Thurmond City)

Goalkeeper Hughes was, is and will be the custodian of the goal for this World Cup. A magnificent ability to stop shots which are often considered unsaveable, Hughes is a threat to look out for. However, he cannot stop set-pieces for toffee, and generally looks to the defenders to help him in this task.

2 Louis Paterson (25) - LB (Chalk Wharf)

Louis Paterson, a mainstay of the Wharf defences, is the most solid defender Tumbra has. He's strong and athletic, and does not mind getting stuck in. While a little slow, his menacing physical stature more than makes up for it.

3 Brandon Brooks (28) - CB (Fayborough United)

Brooks, the captain of Fayborough United, is the linchpin of the Fayborough United defences, much like Louis Paterson. He mostly acts as a limited defender, who sometimes makes runs up the field. However, his vision is not that good.

4 Steve Nelson (26) - CB (Thurmond United)

Nelson is the cover for this team - he scoops up incoming balls and sends them upfield - and does so with frightening accuracy. However, he does tend to get stuck in a bit too often, and if a penalty is given away, it will most likely be Nelson.

5 Edward Williams (29) - RB (Waterford City)

Williams is fast approaching the end of his prime - but is still an excellent footballer, all things considered. His workrate cannot be matched and he almost always chases after every ball, making him a favourite amongst fans but leading him to tire out often.

6 Henry Butler (25) - CDM (Connaught FC)

Henry Butler is Tumbra's premier CDM, and has held this place for the past few years now. A product of the excellent Connaught FC academy, Butler's footballing prowess has proved his critics wrong, who originally panned him for being one-dimensional.

He's an adept tackler and dribbler, but his vision is still a bit lacking.

7 Chris Howard (31) - CDM (Randia Stars)

Chris Howard's position as the defensive pivot in Colin Guthries' system may be under threat from a young twenty year-old in John Rhys-Stevens. The thirty-one year old, however, managed to single-handedly save the Stars from relegation. Having already handed in his notice for the Stars, who knows where he will go next.

Strong as a bull and seemingly able to be on both sides of the pitch at once - Howard's positioning is strong, but his speed is lacking.

8 Patrick Sanders (30) - LM (Thurmond City)

He's short, fast and yet can't jump. Meet Patrick Sanders, vice-captain of Thurmond City. Approaching thirty this year, Sanders is still as fast as he was when he just started in the league; but still can't jump, leading to a lack of aerial skills.

9 Robert Alexander (27) - CAM (Thurmond United)

Alexander is blessed with that gift to make chances and see things others cannot when finding goal-scoring opportunities; he will find the smallest gap in the opponent's defence and work it. He's pushed down too often (especially in the penalty box) which has led to some accusations of diving, but who knows?

10 Albert Foster (25) - RM (Goldlion Arsenal)

The antithesis of Patrick Sanders; he can jump but not run. He's also the tallest player on the team, which contributes to that slowness. If the team is playing counterattack, expect him to play no part in the offense.

11 Henry Pandon (30) - ST (Thurmond City)

Tumbra's greatest striker has, surprisingly, not announced that he is retiring from international football, despite the fact that he has just turned 30. Not that his fans want him to stop, either. He's lost a bit of speed from the years, but is still every bit the mercurial striker he was when he was twenty-seven.

12 Larry Peterson (34) - GK (Sondon AFC)

Peterson has already stated that he is retiring, not just from international, but from football as a whole after this World Cup. A magnificent set-piece stopper, the only thing stopping Peterson from the number 1 jersey is the fact that he can be a bit slow to react to events happening around him. With his age growing, the skills he has lost are not coming back any quicker.

13 Raymond Perry (25) - GK (Goldlion Arsenal)

Perry, the man with cat-like reflexes, finds himself once again in the team. He'll be treating this as possibly an extended vacation, unless something happens to both Hughes and Peterson. He is a middle-of-the-road keeper, and is generally considered to be around decent for a team of Tumbra's standing.

14 Scott Moore (27) - RB (Merton FC)

Moore has been dogged by injury problems this entire season - but is still fit enough to play for the national team. Whether or not he lasts the distance is another matter. Being a shadow of his former self this season, there are doubts on whether he'll be able to last long enough, or whether he'll pull out those flashes of brilliance he had in 2013.

15 Will Collins (29) - CB (Connaught FC)

After an excellent showing in the previous round of the World Cup, Collins is back for another shot of qualifying for the Cup. He has the ability to play in all three defensive positions, but is generally rather slow off the ball. He does make for a menacing physical defender and does not mind getting stuck in.

While his career was nearly ruined in his youth, the tenacious defender certainly has struck back and silenced his critics. However, he has previously mentioned that he will be retiring from international football after this World Cup cycle, regardless of the result.

16 Alex Tucker (25) - LB (Metz FC)

Little Alex Tucker, as they used to call him in the day, has now reached the ripe old age of 25. He's still as speedy as ever, and as dimunitive as ever, but his mental game has grown stronger. His strength could really use a bit of a training, however.

17 Harold Thornton (27) - CM (Rothes Rovers)

18 John Rhys-Stevens (20) - CDM (Merton FC)

Captain of the Young Lions team which finished 3rd at the Di Bradini Cup, Rhys-Stevens has certainly shown his footballing chops and has been promoted to the senior side. Despite being suspended twice for the tournament - once which had him breaking down on the pitch during the semi-final - he has shown that he has fully matured and is ready to take the step up the the next level.

19 George Bryant (29) - LM (Hoxford United)

Simmons is a rare beast - he is strong AND fast at the same time. His penchant for creating chances out of nowhere have led him to become the raumdeuter whenever he's playing.

22 Peter Jones (24) - CF (West Langham)

Peter Jones, the landmark-setter at Tumbra's first Di Bradini Cup competition, when he scored nine in three and was the source of repeated interest from Abanhleftic clubs. That ship has now sailed, however, but even though Peter is at West Langham, he's still scoring goals like nobody's buisness - twenty of the fifty-five that the team scored.

Fantastic at finishing and technical abilities but a bit lacking on his aerial skills, Peter certainly looks to prove himself again here.

23 Steven Miller (30) - ST (Chalk Wharf)

Steven Miller is here to fill up the ranks, really. While most people wanted Di Bradini Cup superstar Oliver Ganson to join the ranks of the real Blue Lions, Guthries announced that it was still too soon for Oliver to be joining the national team.

He's an about average player, of course, but nothing really stands out except his dribbling.

The Fog-Thing of Antiquity

The Fog-Thing of Antiquity is an immortal god-like sentient creature made out of a fog-like substance - and it just happens to have taken the Holy Empire straight to the Cup of Harmony final.

Such is his power that he can divide himself into 11 more solid sub-entities, but these remain connected more or less insubstantially to the central fog mind; they are in essence vaguely humanoid pseudopods that remain part of the fog-thing.

Playing against the fog thing will be a damp and grey experience since his presence will encompass the entire field, even if the 11 sub-entities are the only ones that can control the ball.

The fog-thing is entirely impervious to any known form of harm.

How on earth they're going to coach an immortal god-like fog creature is, however, anyone's guess

Frosty football is attacking football. The Holy Empire always plays a 3-5-2 formation using overlapping wingers that turns into 3-3-4 on the counterattack; the fog thing has taken this much on board.

The team will - somehow - wear famous Imperial Gold and Red, as worn by the Holy Empire since WC1...

It's not, however, clear how a fog-thing wears a kit. Maybe the fog takes on the necessary colours?

Following the resignation of Azarai Robinson, it was unclear whether the OFA would accept the invitation from the Eagle Club to participate in their prestigious tournament. Serenity wasn't willing to let the opportunity pass, however.

"I'll take them." She said, in an OFA meeting, the day after she assumed her new role as Director of Player Development. "While you figure out who you want to manage the national team next, let me take charge so we can compete in the Eagle's Cup."

When met with silence and more than a few raised eyebrows, Serenity did not waver. "Look, this is a good opportunity to re-establish ourselves as a major force in world football. Let me take a squad and show that we are still a formidable side who cannot be taken lightly." She paused for effect. "With the AOCAF coming later this summer, we're in a really good position to remind a few nations we're still big dogs. Then we can go to the AOCAF freshly confident, and get a third back-to-back regional title. How many nations have done that?"

Serenity knew it would be tougher than that. It was always tougher than that. Admittedly, things had changed dramatically over the past few decades, with women assuming several roles of importance within the OFA, but the old attitudes had not faded entirely. There were still those who felt she was fortunate, considering her surname. It was Lord Montblanc -- one of the few people afforded rank by the crown that Serenity felt actually worthy -- who spoke first.

"This is all well and good, but... why you, Serenity?"

It was a fair question. 'Why me? He's right, there are better choices. I don't even really want to manage the national team... do I?' She thought to herself. "I know the team better than most. Maybe better than anyone. I've been part of the setup long enough. I've also played for the country, captained the national team." She replied, confidently. "And I'm a damn good coach." She added, with more than a little ferocity in her tone.

Montblanc smiled. "I can't argue with that." Nobody else raised any objection either. Just like that, Serenity Lewis had become the first woman to be appointed manager of the Osarian national football team.

"...for the time being, yeah. No I can't guarantee you a job after this tournament, you know that. I can't even guarantee my own job." Serenity sighed heavily into the mouthpiece of her phone. "This is about more than just us, Jordy. The next few months are going to be critical for football in this country. You know it, I know it, everybody knows it. We need the best people we can get, and that means us."

"You know... you're not as much like your father as people think." Jordan replied. "I'll be your number two. I know how much those players love you. Because you'll push them over the line."

"No I don't. That was my dad. I just want them to do better."

"No, Serenity... he was great and is easily the best leader we've had in football terms, but your dad never pushed us. He dragged us. Slight difference."

Deciding your squad was never easy, Jermain had told her. Her father would know. He'd picked more squads than she ever had. And he'd picked squads for some of the most expectant fans in the multiverse. At Firewood City, where anything other than a win is unacceptable, her father won the league on his first attempt. He then took the national team to two World Cup finals. Won both of them. When the chance to be number one in the world was on the line, Jermain Lewis had picked a squad and got it right. Now Serenity had to pick a team that would do something even harder, in some ways.

'There should be less pressure for us. We're the underdogs again, aren't we? But I know that if I get this wrong, there might be no coming back.' Serenity told herself. "We have to do well at this tournament. There is no other option." She flung the folder down onto her desk, papers spilling out detailing a variety of statistics for hundreds of players. "So many numbers." She sighed.

"It's not about the numbers, though, is it?"

"No." Came the unexpected reply behind her. "It never has been, Serenity." The voice was familiar, but it couldn't be him. Her father had passed away last month. He couldn't speak to her now. But still she couldn't turn around. 'What if he's there? What do I say to him?' She thought.

She turned around.

"Serenity, you know what you're about to do is a thankless task. But you're doing it anyway. You don't want the plaudits, never have. You never relied on numbers before either. Don't let the job change you." Her father said. At least, it looked like him. Sounded more like someone else, though. They weren't her father's words.

"You're right. They're not my words." Her father laughed. "But I'm not really your father, am I? You know what I am. You know who I am."

"This is all in my head. Of course." Serenity rolled her eyes and sighed again.

"Just because I'm in your head doesn't mean I'm not real, though. You already know the answers to all your questions, you're just not listening to them. Now, if I were really your father, would you listen to me?"

"Heh." She laughed. Without looking at the folder of information from the scouting team and performance analysis department, Serenity scribbled down her list of twenty-three names. She already knew who she wanted in her squad. She'd always known. That's why she put herself forward in the first place, wasn't it?

It had been a solid month since the public execution of Franscesca Cortes. Shortly after, the country had gone under martial law, there were talks about the League Chromatiks being suspended (probably just a rumor, as it has been generating so much money per year), and the Chromatik Football Federation, along with all of its Senior Players, U-21 Players, and U-15 Players - had fled the country in exile with all of their family and friends. After the stay in Cosumar, their relations with the Cosumarites were great, but the CFF had decided that they had bothered them enough, and instead set their sights on Stade Olympique in Montreal, The Royal Kingdom of Quebec. The Quebecois had been very forthcoming and friendly, and allowed them to use the stadium for practice while the federation was away.

The entire federation was still in mourning - Franscesca had not only been the very first Manager in the history of Chromatik Sport, she had also brought together many of the faces that made the core of the team. She was the one that had taken a chance at Kéirâ Andìsorì and helped out with the mass exodus of Chromatik players to overseas. She was definitely the brain behind a lot of stuff that had made Chromatik football the way that it was now.

However, there was no time to dawdle or grieve endlessly. After the best finish in Chromatik football history - the Round of Sixteen - Chromatika had received an invitation to the prestigious Eagle's Cup, as well as declared its intent to enter the next Atlantian Oceania Cup of Association Football in a year. It was the goal of Henri Cho, Chairman of the CFF, and Lisa Amos, the Manager of the team, to keep the team's morale and playing strength at a high while sending all the players on the squad - who had now been exiled indefinitely - to different teams around the world.

That being said, the team playing in the Eagle's Cup will be the same squad that played in the recent world cup, in the form taken after the Qualifying Stage:

At first, Giuseppe Neruike had appreciated Olivia Idoni giving him a suggestion for his next book. He'd developed enough of a rapport with her and some of the other Bassabook players during their undefeated domestic season that he felt like he could trust her lead.

But that was before he found himself standing once again in the Wayr Stadium winds. This time, speaking to a completely unimpressed woman who just nodded along vaguely as he attempted to retrace the steps that had brought them both, brought them all there.

"So there's this tournament," he began, "invitational, kind of closed-off really when you get down to it, mostly just for--"

"Old Boys?" she challenged.

"I wasn't about to put it that way."

"Technically there's a spot open for applicants, there's some--fairness about it--"

"Right, but, you didn't exactly apply, did you, seeing as how..." We didn't exactly have a national team was his unspoken conclusion.

Shrug.

"So these...chaps decide, out of all the--" he's not sure what the best euphemism for Bedistan is these days "associations...out there, they invite Zwangzug."

"Precisely," said Mila Apsar.

"Great. Sure. Totally believable. So, you go ahead and put together this--are we even allowed to call it a national team?"

"I don't see why not?"

"You're not trying to pass it off as 'the 1./ All-Stars' or something, all of whom happen to be citizens of the same country?"

"Seems unwieldy."

"Do you even have the infrastructure to do this? After what the country's been through..."

"I'll admit I signed on under the impression it was all being hosted at a single neutral site, but we only need to host three games, and here's as good a spot as any."

"Great. Er, mind if I try to check out the mood in the clubhouse?"

"Knock yourself out, but practice starts on the top of the hour."

"Right. Thanks!" he added, half-tempted to add a "see you around" and half-convinced that no such thing could really be occurring after all.

"We've played Raynor City, yeah?" Komala was saying. "It can't be much different."

Her "we" was slightly optimistic, as the only other Namiri Independent representative (Turan) seemed to have been dispatched by Apsar, since she was used to ordering him around anyway, to make sure players likely to create tactical blowups weren't kept together. In practice this mostly meant distracting Michelle if she got too close to jawing with one of the goalkeepers (who tended to keep to themselves anyway). Neruike wasn't sure why Eugene, the captain, hadn't taken charge of this, but maybe he was as busy as the rest of them trying to balance taking in all the different personalities.

Still, Komala had a slightly-receptive audience in her midfield partner Caleb, and Hugo Nimbue held course about the travails of his hometown. "In Bassabook you came out of the grey times with nothing worse than a couple funky banana trees to show for it. Up in Cham, we got terrible fires burning things down. We needed the firesticks, you know, to keep them at bay."

"That's not so bad now, is it?" Ezekiel responded cautiously.

"Well, no," Hugo admitted. "Not on its own. But then...there were collectivists."

"Hugo," said Shayna with some disdain (Rovers United were of all cities and none, and it brought out that effect), "this is Zwangzug, there are collectivists everywhere."

"Yeah, but I mean like really--"

"Worse than Guariday?"

"Not like that, more like--the Cyrillic-notators down south. 'Ho ho, comrade, do you know how much resource we got in the common pot? Ho ho, I stoked it all day with my firestick, comrade? Ho ho, better predict right or off to the frigid plains with you!'"

"Tulf District isn't even that cold," said Ezekiel. "Arlington's no better and they don't complain."

"Complain about what?" blinked Mark. Now they'd gone and done it, gotten a keeper to interrupt of his own accord.

"Weather," Shayna said briefly, and Mark just nodded.

But Hugo went on "We should be playing Bonesea there, back in Cham I mean, I'd bet they'd enjoy collectivists-with-firesticks. Even better than dice!"

"How about not," suggested Ezekiel, and that was that.

But after the outfielders' conversation had shifted to whether the competition for "prettiest goal of the last 1./ season" would be Compars versus himself, Ogechi came over and sought out Mark. "Hey," she asked, "you okay?"

Shrug.

"Ready?"

"Mhm."

"Okay. Olivia?"

Olivia walked over to join them, and without raising her voice, Ogechi directed her speech toward her. Again, without displacing Eugene from nominal pep talk duties, even a casual conversation between the league champions was enough to attract the attention of several other players who quietly joined them. Mark, meanwhile, was hanging on every word.

"So there's the group draw. The Holy Empire. Valanora. Bonesea. Are any of these teams going to be easy? No. Would any other group have been easy? Not remotely, it's an invitational--they have us here because they think we're worthy of this tier, eleven versus eleven, being among teams that put forth effort at any level. I won't tell you how to win--that's Apsar's job--but I can review one trap not to fall into, to make sure we don't beat ourselves."

Eugene smiled. Maybe he'd try to get on that, too.

"If you think for a minute that you won't be respected because you can't compete on the same terms as your opponent, you'll be too scared to begin. All you can focus on are the terms you've been practicing for seasons and seasons. Master those, and at least we'll stand a chance."

Dustin looked tense, and while Mark was still listening intently, his gaze seemed to be flickering somewhere far beyond the elevated stadium.

"Now maybe you're wondering, why us? It's easy--because we've already come out of the bleakness, each of your cities endured. I'm not going to--put words in your mouth or jump to conclusions--that'd be dumb, I won't say that's necessarily rock bottom, but you all have something to remember. Be it in Zwangzug or--wherever. After that? What can they do to you?"

Olivia blinked. It was not often that Ogechi alluded to her childhood while in the clubhouse, at least not in Bassabook. With a team of mostly-rivals? Yet somehow there they were, drawn into Group C, and it was her voice that rang out.

Eagle's Cup VI - Preview

THE Blue Lions find themselves in their third and final tournament of the World Cup cycle, with them trying to put the disappointments of their non-qualifier in the World Cup and the group-stage exit of the Cup of Harmony behind them. Now ranked 135th in the world behind Octinstine, the Blue Lions head into this tournament trying to salvage a bit of face, maybe by pulling off a giant-killing win in the group stages.

Not like the task will be easy - Robin Stoff's work has been cut out for him. Having guided the team through one of its toughest times in recent history, the team now enter the sixth edition of the Eagle's Cup in Group A - a group which contains the World Champions, the Unified Sunrise Islands, who sit a pretty hundred and thirty-four rankings above the Blue Lions.

In this group as well are the duo of Vilita and Turori (15th and 36th respectively), who have had very respectable showings this cycle. The Vilitians made it to the World Cup, before finishing third in Group G and being eliminated. That group also saw the rookie nation Bonesea - another competitor in this Cup - finish first with seven points.

Meanwhile, Turori have arguably had the more successful run. At the time of going to print, they are a Finalist in the 67th Cup of Harmony, a tournament which Tumbra left in the Group Stages after a draw with Sameba, and losses to Hasznia and Flardania. Although the odds are stacked against them, a win against The Holy Empire would not be very farfetched - who have sunk to 34th in the world rankings. Should they win, the momentum that would bring into this tournament would undoubtedly be deadly for a team of the Blue Lions' stature - which despite all our attempts to make them appear like one of the best teams in the world, still get dwarfed by an unranked team 2-4. (That team is Darmen, and they are now above us in the rankings, in another kick to the proverbial shin)

This tournament will undoubtedly be the last for the original World Cup squad - be prepared to say goodbye to Chris Howard, Patrick Sanders, Larry Peterson, Scott Moore, Will Collins, Jeremy Turner and Steven Miller by the time the Campionato Esportiva XVII rolls around. They are either retiring from international football, or retiring altogether, or simply do not fit in Robin Stoff's new system. But who will replace them?

The challenge of being a national team manager includes that replacing players deemed to be not very useful to the team - but Robin Stoff has had ten years of experience with him in replacing players that are simply too old for the team. Perhaps the general public should not worry, for the team has a master of tinkering with tactics.

Speaking of Robin Stoff's former team, the post of Under-21 manager has been taken up by the Quebecois Sook Jin Yi, 47 - his appointment is set to bring even faster, even more attacking team to the next edition of the Di Bradini Cup. Seeing how the Under-21s had to fight to the very death to hold the Grim Reapers to a draw last time out, the new manager promises a brand of very exciting football indeed. Will he improve on the team's third-placed finish? Only time will tell.

The main worry for this cup will be getting Henry Pandon through this competition - throughout the qualifying campaign he has looked steadily more and more tired, and despite him being our talismanic striker, is getting no younger and may soon consider quitting the international stage as well. Will he be played by Stoff despite this? It is very unlikely that Stoff does not know about this - he is a manager who likes to attend matches to see potential players for himself - a tactic that managed to net the U-21 team Oliver Ganson, the Northern Wonderkid.

It will be a very interesting cup indeed - the Blue Lions are last in this tournament by a very long margin, and even Stoff has admitted, pre-competition, that "a win against a top side would suffice." TBC Sports definitely agrees with this assessment.

Tumbra: How To Get There

Flights are available from any major Esportivan airport, which means that you may have to transfer flights from another airport. The main airports teams have to be concerned with are the Goldlion City Airport in Goldlion, and the Connaught Will Calvin Airport. Visiting Tumbra is not extremely difficult; visas are freely given and applying takes less than ten minutes to do.

Within Tumbra itself, however, things start to get a little more difficult. The roads are more or less congested even with no speed limit, with the trains recently re-emerging as the most popular mode of transport within the country. Taxis are a little bit on the expensive side within the cities, and the local Metro systems of various cities are fast, clean and efficient.

All Change at the Three Major Parties?

IN a shocking twist, all three major party leaders might be forced out of office by challengers by the end of this parliamentary term - and rumour is that one has already happened.

Current Liberal party leader Jack Carlshaw could be facing a challenge from Karen Fielding, MP for Enfield North as early as this Sunday, and she is expected to win. This comes after the party's relatively stagnant showing in the latest general election.

Meanwhile, current SDP leader David Walker will be challenged by Evan Price, the former First Minister for Sofan. The next few days were a blur as I tried to work out my strategy. I carried the handgun wherever I went, in case I suddenly met him and decided to go hell for leather. I never caught sight of him, constantly checking faces against that one photograph to see whether he was there.

Eventually, my patience snapped and I decided to ask to meet him in the Lobby of Parliament. Suicide, I know, but it was worth it for an independent Sofan. God would have wanted me to do the same.

That day began just like any other morning. I woke up on the dusty sofa (which was now considerably less dusty), retrieved some money from the allowance that the SRA had granted me, and went for breakfast.

My meeting was scheduled for noon, before the second session of Parliament for the day. Evidently nobody knew who I was - I had given a pseunodym for identification because I had no doubt the security forces knew who I was. A Sofanese man with an exact match for a soldier in the SRA? I would have been arrested within seconds.

The lobby of Parliament was as grand as the pictures had described it. I hated this place. Corrupt, useless, oppressing...

The Four Prime Ministers had statues in the Lobby. Geoffrey Howe, the first Prime Minister, William Willard-Brown, the one who served thrice, John Clarence, who led the country through turmoil; and Michael Collins, who had founded the Senate, in effect, and who sat in it from 1912 till his passing.

All of them had found a way to oppress Sofan or another. Howe had completely ignored Sofan, leaving a completely incompetent Minister in charge, leading to famine when the crop wasn't properly managed; Brown had favoured Humanists and Protestants, giving them rights over the burgeoning population of Catholics; John Clarence had sent thousands of Sofanese to their deaths; and Collins didn't even want to have Sofan represented in the Senate in his first place.

I was lost in my thoughts until the target appeared. He was an aging man who was gentle on his step, while slowly ambling toward me with a smile on his face.

I was about to kill this man.

What goes on in the mind of a killer? Before the trigger is pulled, or the knife is stabbed, there has to be something that goes on. Do their minds go blank, or do they think of something else?

I withdrew my small handgun from my side pocket. He didn't notice.

Of course, we will never know, due to this country's inane policy of putting murderers to the gallows at the first opportunity. We call them inhumane, we call them less than humans, we reduce them to a pile of statistics - but what for?

I pointed it at him. He stopped dead in his tracks.

We cannot allow this to go on. Mr. Speaker, we have to repeal the death penalty.

Two shots rang out. The target's body crumpled to the floor, almost immediately. He would die, of course.

It was the last thing I felt before I was tackled to the ground, the gun skittering away from me while I was handcuffed.

I was a murderer.

Did I feel any different? No.

Osarius Squad for Eagle's Cup VI

The appointment of Serenity Lewis as "interim manager" -- though she prefers the title "head coach", apparently; because "[she's] not here to 'manage' things, just to coach a group of talented players and get some results" -- came as a shock to most, following the (somewhat expected) resignation of Azarai Robinson last year. Hoever, it shouldn't have. The former Osarius and Firewood City captain has been involved with the national team for a long time, and is well aware of what is required to succeed at the international level. After serving under her father, World Cup Hall of Famer Jermain, and his successor, Serenity was appointed the OFA's Director of Player Development just last month. "It is a testament to her excellent work over the years," stated OFA Chairman Lord Alain Montblanc. "Serenity is a superb coach and leader, and has a very clear vision. She's driven in pursuit of realising that vision and the board feels that she best embodies the principles we wish to build our young players' development on." A surprise invite from the Eagle's Club saw Serenity do what she had done all through her playing career, and "step up" as she puts it. "Nobody else was going to, and I didn't want the opportunity, for the country, to pass. So I stepped up."

One of the first things Serenity did upon taking charge of the national team was to call her co-session leader, Jordan Simpson, and offer him the assistant's post. The two had been joint session leaders for the national team for some time, and had worked together previously, building a strong working relationship. An understanding, of sorts, in which Simpson took a backseat and supported the more vocal Serenity. It's a system that works for them, and there is little reason to believe that will change.

The appointment of Daniele Gentile as team captain might be a surprise to some, but the Hastmead Diamante midfielder has proven himself as a highly effective player, acting the role of "midfield general" with a degree of forcefulness that belies his age. "I wouldn't compare him to myself or to my dad, but Daniele has that 'something' that strong leaders have. I can see it in him. He'll do the nation proud." Serenity explains. Her second and third choice captains are players in a similar mould, in some ways. While Constantini doesn't possess Gentile's raw, passionate approach, he does command respect from those around him. He is unflappable under pressure too, having received less than five bookings in his entire senior career to date, despite playing as a centre back. Zapata is perhaps most reminiscent of Lewis herself, in that he is energetic and leads by example more than by words. The Trothwands midfielder's contributions often go unnoticed to the majority, however, and the gaffer has pre-empted any notions of underappreciation by installing him into a leadership position immediately.

Serenity Lewis has maintained the existing national team backroom staff for the most part, supplementing them with a few choices of her own. This approach is logical, given that she has worked with them for years already, and presumably has a strong working relationship with the team. Calling in three members of the squad from during Osarius' double World Champion era is a shrewd move. These players are best positioned to understand the pressures and pass on their experience on how best to handle it.

Notably, Roque Acosta has been credited with having a major impact on the fortunes of Firewood City this past season, and it is believed that his presence is intended to inspire more than anything. The former Osarius captain has been tipped to follow in Jermain Lewis' footsteps and manage the national team some day. But that will not be for some time, surely. Similarly, Toby Drummond's tactical insight is invaluable for Serenity as she seeks to avoid making the same mistakes as her predecessor.

Fletcher's inclusion adds goalkeeping expertise to the already formidable knowledge of Gareth Mason, while also lending an alternate perspective for the female members of the squad. It's worth noting that three of the four goalkeepers named are women. "I've been there, I can relate. No disrespect to Gareth because he's a fine coach, but there are aspects of this that he can't possibly grasp, and I'm here to bridge that gap. That's all." Fletcher revealed.

The other call Lewis made was to bring in the recently retired Angelica Capiello. When asked what swayed her decision to call on the former Osarius playmaker, Serenity laughed. "She's just like Super Ayanna [Barca-Carthy], and I couldn't call Ayanna. Angelica is right up there. Both of them were phenomenal players, and I have similar players in this squad who could benefit from that particular kind of insight. That wasn't my game, and I needed someone to plug that gap in knowledge." Explained the manager.

NOTE: The following stadium should be used for all Osarius home games during the competition.

Home stadium: Mount Crown Stadium, Burningham (cap. 98,000 all seated)
The Firebirds' home stadium is built at the foot of the imposing Mount Crown, on the outskirts of the capital city, Burningham. Fans are known for their extremely vocal support, and the Osarian national stadium has been described as a difficult place to play. The stats support this notion, as Osarius boast a superb record there over the past two decades. The most vociferous home fans are seated in a kop-esque stand built into the mountainside, with the huge, rocky face behind them adding to the intimidation. The pitch itself is usually made shorter, but wider than most, which is likely highly unfamiliar to most visiting teams. This is deliberate, as these odd dimensions cater to the short midfield passing and counter pressing style the Firebirds employ, as well as their frequent use of width. As a result, long-ball teams will likely find it difficult to find space behind the defence, but teams making liberal use of wingers will likely flourish. In a similar vein, a high offside trap (near the half way line, for example) will likely be more difficult to pull off, due to the speed at which a transition can occur -- with forwards still onside in their own half -- and limited space between defence and midfield.

I have a pretty clear tactical philosophy in mind for my team so I recommend at least skim-reading the next section, or the wiki page on the "Osarian 4-3-3", if you intend to RP the match in detail. Long story short, Osarius play in a style that is something like Arsenal's invincibles -- in that it's both possession based AND counter attacking -- while lining up in a Xavi/Messi-era Barcelona type 4-3-3 formation. It is unlikely a nation ranked outside the top 15-20 in the world could outplay them in midfield or win the possession game, but they are far from invulnerable, and have been overcome by teams playing even the simplest of tactical systems at times.

The team will generally attempt to control possession rather than engage in consciously defensive play; and "parking the bus" is a cardinal sin. When out of possession, the team will generally press high up the pitch to compress the available space -- because they are largely comfortable playing the ball under pressure -- and try to win the ball back as quickly as possible, sometimes over-committing, and leaving themselves vulnerable to a swift counterattack. Generally pacy defenders help to alleviate this problem somewhat.

Against stronger opponents, expect to see a more defensive positioning manifest itself, though. Fullbacks will be less likely to bomb forward, and the team tends to be more conservative in possession, often playing backward to draw the opposition in, before launching a devastating counter attack with pace. They will also slow down when ahead later in the game, but only so they don't unnecessarily provide opportunities to lose possession and/or concede. This doesn't mean they wont take the opportunity to score if it presents itself, though...

The front line of three is often very flexible, with all three (usually) capable of playing in any of the front three roles at any given time. Most of the time, the centre forward/striker will remain the focal point of the team's central attacking, though, whether they are receiving passes or moving to make space for the wingers.

The midfield will almost always be lined up in way that the three players form a sideways arrow (minus the shaft). By this, I mean that one will sit deep, one will push forward, and one will be a box-to-box type shuttling between the two. On the occasions no specifically named attacking midfielder ("AM" in the squad list) is used, typically it is an indicator that the manager expects a tighter battle for possession in the midfield zone, and it's likely two midfielders will be box-to-box, while the third midfielder is a more defensively-inclined (possibly even a "DM") option.

If there IS an attacking midfielder on the pitch, they will operate either as a playmaker, and most passages of play will go through them... or they will push forward from midfield a lot, getting onto the end of passes in the final third, and thus scoring a fair few goals. I'll try to highlight which of the two if I feel like it really matters. Typically speaking, if none of the other two midfielders is mentioned as being outright defensive, the attacking midfielder is a "playmaker" type.

Defensively, Osarian centre-backs are typically pacy and expected to have strong aerial ability and good positional awareness. The latter part is less important if a player is particularly quick, though. Almost certainly, one of the centre backs or the goalkeeper will be good at organising the defence. In cases where there is a notable lack of organisational skill -- typically in situations lacking experience -- there is a clear knock-on effect on the rest of the team. With that in mind, don't expect starting centre backs to be among the younger or less experienced members of the team.

The fullbacks typically overlap a lot -- considering how often the wingers change sides and become "inverted" (i.e. cutting inside the defender on their stronger foot, rather than pulling wide) -- and seem to operate almost as advanced as wingbacks (or even midfielders against considerably weaker teams) a lot of the time, making the system a sort of like a 3-4-3 when Osarius attack, due to the deepest central midfielder dropping back to a position right in front of the defence, to counter against a potential playmaker "in the hole" for the opposition. This can be a potential weak point if this player is small in stature, as they will often get drawn into the backline and thus, potentially mismatched against forwards.

Squad Selection Notes:

Lewis' trust in this younger crop is considered a risk by many, but she also has a lot of support among fans and pundits, who believe that Osarius must ensure the "next generation" are ready to truly take over. "[The last wave of youngsters to emerge] perhaps struggled under the pressure when taking over from the likes of Drummond, Grassi and Acosta. Serenity has left those guys out, for the most part. There's no Mancini, no Mitchell, no Alan Drummond. This doesn't mean she doesn't rate them or trust them, I think, but rather that she wants the next group to step up." Explains new assistant coach to the national team, Angelica Capiello. "Serenity knows firsthand what it's like to play with that kind of pressure. She coped, but she knows most would break. She's protecting her players, like she always has. That's why they love her."

Serenity Lewis has named, in total, thirty players she intends to use throughout the course of the Eagle's Cup, clarifying that there was no explicitly stated squad size limit, and she expects this won't be a problem. "For the first stage at least, the groups, I can't see any reason not to use a few more players." She said. It is likely that she will restrict herself to a smaller selection of players should Osarius require to travel to the Eagle's Club for the quarter finals and beyond, given the OFA's travel budget, but she hinted at a desire to fight for a greater allocation in such an event. "I'm not a fan of leaving part of my team behind, so we may have to have a conversation." She revealed. "Not really sure what kind of restrictions will be in place, though, so we'll have to wait and see. Trying not to look too far ahead." One name of particular note among the thirty is Aquillian-born winger Kyron Bartley. The pacy winger lived and trained in Aquillian with Academia Real until being offered his first professional contract at eighteen by FC Barciddia. Since joining the Tubrissian club, he has been tracked closely by the OFA's scouting department, and is among a number of talented young Aquilliano players living and/or training in Osarius. Lewis explains that as soon as she asked, Bartley was enthusiastic to the idea and expressed a "strong willingness" to switch allegiances and play for Osarius. "His birth nationality isn't important. Kyron is Osarian now, end of discussion." The new gaffer stated firmly, when asked. Nobody dared ask if she had been considering offering caps to any other foreign-born players in the country.

An injury to Luther Bailey -- who, despite Greeningham's lacklustre campaign was suspected to have been Lewis' first choice for captain -- sees the surprise inclusion of Ignacio Rocha, while Lewis' intention of moving away from most of the nation's older, established internationals means that Brinemouth's Gianluigi Calabrese and Soldarian's Idoya Casillas are the oldest members of the squad, at a relatively sprightly twenty seven years of age. The latter was said to be surprised by his call-up, despite having a stellar season in the Vanorian league, notching an impressive twenty goals and being nominated for the Player of the Season award. "She mentored him at Firewood for a while, so they're pretty close. It's just unfortunate that he can't make it, due to the timing of the Banguelan season, and you know when you're older, you kind of have to preserve yourself a bit."

TWO THEMES TO WATCH FOR AT THE EAGLE'S CUP

Jurgen Reichart did passably at the Cup of Harmony, scoring resounding victories against Szavoda and Nova Anglicana before collapsing late in the quarterfinals to Anglatia, but this will be a far greater challenge. The Tigers, drawn in a group with heavyweight San José Guayabal, reigning champions Nephara, and familiar foe Cosumar, will be lucky to qualify for the quarterfinals, and it seems very unlikely that we'll find much success here. Still, this Cup can act as a useful litmus test, especially since Jurgen Reichart has chosen a full-strength squad, with only a handful of notable omissions.

1. CAN THE DEFENSE HOLD UP AGAINST WORLD-CLASS ATTACKS?

Rodrigo Vaz managed to gain notoriety amongst Tigers fans for creating defenses that were, if not stellar, at least decent. While players like Sebastian Myers and pre-injury Tristan Karnstedt definitely helped, Vaz surprised many by organizing his talent into a cohesive back four that worked well together. The defense, although aging by the time the Tigers finally qualified, was a huge factor in the national team's qualification in World Cup 74, and even in the meltdown that kicked off WCQ75, the defense was okay.

Jurgen Reichart, though, is not Rodrigo Vaz. An avid proponent of attacking football, Reichart has made a number of switches that would leave Vaz cringing. Adrian Lindberg, a left-back for both club and country, has been shifted to the center. Replacing center-back Emily Ynoa, who impressed during the Cup of Harmony, is Living Documentary Kris Strausberg, who, while very good on the attack (scoring nine goals in twenty-two appearances as a right-back for BSC Vargas before moving to Quebec's London FC), is more than lacking as a defender.

Reichart has shifted the midfield forwards as well. Towards the end of the qualifiers, Trevor Duncan favored a lineup with two holding midfielders (Vesely and Candelario) who were good on both ends of the pitch to compensate for a defense that liked to push forwards and a third midfielder (Felix Rasmussen) who contributes little to defense. Rodrigo Vaz preferred the more attack-minded Reid Adrian, but kept the same blueprint. But, while the talented future captain Candelario remains in the starting lineup, and Rasmussen still plays forwards, Reichart has decided that teenager Stefan Rinaldi, undoubtedly talented but an attacking midfielder by trade, will play at Candelario's side.

Not only is this setup defensively suicidal, but it also forces Candelario to drop back defend most of the time, rather than use his strong technique to push forwards. While the defense is likely to bleed goals like Brigantii at the Cup of Harmony, it's still worth watching to see if Reichart is more defensively astute than he appears. Indeed, the author can easily imagine Rinaldi maintaining order, Lindberg working well at center-back, and Strausberg occasionally crossing back onto the Tigers' side of the pitch - in which case the sheer amount of talent the Tigers have might be enough to stop even the best of attacks.

2. ARE OUR DOMESTIC STARS GOOD ENOUGH?

Stefan Rinaldi of Kyrinson. Kris Strausburg of BSC Vargas. Francis Mandelbrot of New Llama Stars. All three are expected to start, and all three spent last season in the SuperLleague. For a bit of perspective, the last regular starter for the National Team that played domestically was Alex Mills, a center-midfielder who retired from the national team sixteen years ago.

But the SuperLleague, which was a wild success in its first season, is in these days, and Jurgen Reichart tapped three of its best players to start for the national team. Domestic players have long been looked at as inferior to those who ply their trade abroad, and it's worth watching all three players to see how they perform at such a high level.

It's already been noted that all three players are considerably more energetic than the team is as a whole. Rinaldi is known for flashy, high-risk passes that somehow work out in the end - but he differs from a typical Llamanean deep-lying midfield maestro (such as Jake Raburn or Kyle Sturgeon) in that he spends most of his time with the ball pushing forwards and most of his time off the ball pressuring the opponents. Kris Strausberg, who is, while unconfirmed, almost definitely one of the first one-armed players in the Eagle's Cup, is a high-flying wing-back who could probably be switched to right-wing without anyone really noticing. And Francis Mandelbrot differs from the lithe, athletic wings (think Lily Stanton) favored by Vaz - the Benoitan, while five-eleven, is strongest in the air and is better known for his devastating off-the-ball runs than what he can do with the ball at his feet and thirty yards of sideline in front of him.

But are they good enough? Against such high-quality teams, we'll be sure to find out.

RUBY FALLS PROTESTS MAY BE SIGN OF GREATER TREND

For most people, the Eagle's Cup was just another tournament. It was high in prestige, but, although they'd sent a first-choice squad, nobody expected to get out of a group with Nephara, San Jose Guayabal, and Cosumar, let alone win. It was a chance to try out a few small changes - most notably Bernholm taking over the starting goalkeeper position over James Costa and Stefan Rinaldi superseding Vesely by Ethan Candelario's side - but it wasn't anything that important.

However, western Super-Llamaland thinks differently. This morning, small protests erupted throughout the city of Ruby Falls, especially in front of local team AFC Ruby's football stadium, after their bid to host an Eagle's Cup match was rejected by the New Llama City-based LFA.

"We've had enough of New Llama imposing their will on us!" shouted one protester, who declined to give a name. "Every time Ruby bids to host a match, we're rejected! It's as if only Easterners can build stadia worthy of the national team!"

These protests, minor as they may be, are only part of a worrying trend. Western Super-Llamaland, a region that's mostly plains, is being left behind by the relentless pace of modernization to their East in big cities such as New Llama and Vargas. And, while before they were content to continue building up factories for corporations based in such cities, their patience seems to be coming to an end as the historically center-left Llamanean National Congress continues to prioritize the urban poor over the rural anything.

It's all part of what has contributed to the recent success of the Llamanean Populists (LPP), a far-right party based in isolated Wheathampton who has won over a number of votes in the admittedly seats-light Western regions. In contrast with many other right-wing populist movements popping up across the world, this one seems relatively benign. Still, when compared to the mostly center-left collection of parties Super-Llamaland has, such a movement could spell disaster for the dozens of burgeoning new social programs created under President Lindberg's term. There's no doubt that, while the rural right need more representation, the political establishment needs to be the group that gives this to them before it's too late.

An Excursion?

Anyone who thought that the Marauders were going to merely going into the Eagles Cup as something of a friendly competition and stroll to a bit of success have had that idea shattered following the draw of the groups. Joining the Marauders in Group C will be rivals The Holy Empire, old rivals Zwangzug, and the up and coming Bonesea who splashed into the World Cup scene with a bit of a bang, qualifying in their first attempt. The quality of the opposition in this group is quite high, as The Holy Empire is among the best in World Cup history, having multiple titles to their name and always being a difficult match when they have come up against the Marauders. If there is a "bogey" team for the Marauders, it has to be the Empire, though thankfully the matches shall not be taking place in the Dreamed Realm, though dealing with their magical entities(or is it just one?) has always been a bit of a bother.

Zwangzug may not be as good as they once were but Vanorians still take note of the nation, being the team that the Marauders defeated in their second World Cup victory during World Cup 42. They are something of an enigma, as they should be better than they are now merely based on the experience of the footballing program and yet they are not. Perhaps that is the ebb and flow of the game though, what was once was great is not and what was not currently is, especially true given how we have now have back to back champions from the region of Esportiva. Zwangzug may be in the former but I suspect that they shall return to greatness and contention rather soon, though the Marauders will be hoping that it at least waits until the next World Cup qualifiers to come to fruition.

Then there is Bonesea, who is so new to the international footballing scene that there would normally be very little to discuss about them and their potential for success in the tournament. However, this World Cup cycle that they entered was almost as much about them as it was any other nation, even beyond the story of the eventual Champions in the Unified Sunrise Islands. Coming in third in your qualifying group is normally quite an accomplishment in of itself for a debut nation but when they were granted a spot in the playoff as The Sword Bloke's government fell and were unable to produce a squad to contend, it became something intriguing. They took the opportunity before they and qualified out of the playoff and then did exceptionally well in the Finals themselves before being eliminated. This is squad that is as unique as it is talented and full of promise that will no doubt be getting the eyes of the world upon it for some time if they keep up this pace, though like the other three nations in this group, they have to feel as if their chances to advance are slim.

Finally there is the Marauders, who struggled and fought both themselves and the opposition through this entire World Cup cycle, a task that made securing any sort of victory far harder than it should have been. Eventually that exhaustion in fighting both themselves and the opponents caught up to them as they were edged out in the Round of Sixteen by a Valladares squad they really ought to have defeated. That defeat has made the managerial position quite unstable for the Marauders and this draw does nothing to make that seat less warm. With the VSC demanding the squad to make it out of the group and into the Final, the Marauders will have their work cut out for them and then some. Even a victory in this competition may not be enough to save the manager's job. All that can be asked for though is that the squad go out there and give their best, the rest will fall where it wills, such is the hand of fate.

Historical Context - Snapshot: Cosumar made its international debut in World Cup 51. In World Cup 73, new manager Gethin Ramsey built on the momentum from winning the previous Cup of Harmony to qualify Cosumar to the World Cup Finals for the first time since World Cup 62 - ending a miserable 20-year drought. Then, the Dragons advanced all the way to the quarterfinals before finally falling to eventual medalist San Jose Guayabal. With the program now rejuvenated and getting to the knockout rounds again in World Cups 74/75, expectations are higher than they have been in a long time.

Expanded History: Cosumar qualified for six consecutive World Cups (54-59) in its "golden age" of football, going out twice in the group stage and then four times in the Round of 16. After World Cup 59, Cosumar reached its peak ranking of #7 in the world. The National Team began a gradual decline in World Cups 60 and 61, in which they were eliminated in the qualification playoffs despite strong campaigns. They would qualify once again for World Cup 62 in Astograth, but the downward trajectory had already set in. World Cups 64-66 were particularly bleak and saw our once-elite ranking dip as low as the 80s. Many demanded that Farris Crowley, manager since WC54, be sacked... the glory days of his tenure a distant memory. But the Fiefdom Soccer Federation (FSF) stuck with him, and Cosumar began re-emerging as a force to be reckoned with around World Cup 68. A marvelous crop of young talent (including the likes of Francois Renault, Giovanni Aldinne and Alexander Pearce), now lovingly referred to as the "Renaissance Generation", started to restore the former sense of honor to Cosumarite soccer. They led the Dragons on several increasingly competitive Qualifying and Cup of Harmony campaigns...though they never did manage to return to the biggest stage. They came oh-so-close every time, but the Football Gods were never on their side. Their biggest achievement and swansong ended up being a 3rd place medal at Cup of Harmony 62. But then, the next cycle, World Cup 72, was a colossal disaster. The worst since our WC51 debut. Eight draws against lower-ranked sides. Farris Crowley was finally sacked after 40 years. Replacement Gethin Ramsey (of Nephara fame) salvaged Cosumar's ranking by winning the subsequent Cup of Harmony. Ramsey continued to work wonders afterwards, leading the Dragons to three consecutive World Cup Finals, including their best-ever finish (Quarterfinals) two times. With Cosumar now ranked in the world's top 10 and a deeper pool of talent at his disposal than any in Cosumarite history, sights will be set on the semifinals for the next cycle.

Cosumar 3-3 (3-3 AET, 2-4 PKs) Kagdazka & Pazhujebu - World Cup 59 Round of 16 - This is THE match that haunts the dreams of every Cosumarite to this day. We had rolled through our Qualification and World Cup groups in dominant fashion - completely undefeated. It was the greatest Cosumarite team ever assembled, seeming destined for new heights. In the Ro16, the Dragons led the Urchins 3-0 late and celebrations had already begun. But Chalia Sajid scored a flurry of goals for an unlikely hat trick in final 15 minutes to force extra time. In the eventual shootout, we would completely choke, badly missing the target twice. Complete and utter shock. Many wandered if Cosumar would EVER be able to advance to the quarterfinals and exorcise these demons. It took nearly 30 years.
Cosumar 0-0 (0-2 AET) Unified Sunrise Islands - World Cup 75 Quarterfinals - On the brink of our first ever semifinals appearance, we are sunk by a Kevin Stabb brace in extra time to lose our chance to play for a WC medal. This "cinematic" USI team, which came out of nowhere, would go on to win the whole thing, leaving Cosumarites wondering what could've been.

Eagle's Cup VI: _____???

Team: The roster consists of 24 players, 21 of which are standard human. The remaining three players (midfielder Vareza Na'Noni, defender Bacary Na'Kale and winger Frazan Va'Goshal) are of the Vloo people (species homo cosumarensis), a humanoid race native to Cosumar. Vloo are, on average, two inches taller than humans (which admittedly can come in handy on set pieces), and they must use different footwear due to their foot structure. Vloo have pale blue skin, two small black horns and thick black hair. And tails. They are distinguished by their surnames, with typically begin with prefixes such as Na' or Va'. There has always been at least one Vloo player in the squad, but never more than four. As per the Gethin Ramsey trademark, this squad features an emphasis on pressing high and forcing opposing midfields to make mistakes, then punishing with up-tempo precise passing. Cosumar features players in some of the top leagues around the world such as the Nepharim Premiership and LigAnaia.

Formation: 4-4-2
A basic flat 4-4-2. This formation takes advantage of one of the biggest strengths of the Cosumarite player pool: our great wide midfielders. This could leave us exploitable in center of the pitch, but it is thought that the box-to-box work rate and defensive prowess of Vareza Na'Noni will cover us there and allow the more creative Aziz Senturk to get forward. The strike partnership will change for the first time in years - with Belarmin Worsaw stepping in as the more prototypical center forward alongside Engstrom, the smaller, quicker and more creative second striker. The 4-4-2 can easily morph into a 4-1-4-1 or 4-4-1-1 to suit specific situations.

Cosumar's kits were prepared for the team by Meski Soccer & Sports Store of Red Blackiland specially for World Cup 75, our 25th anniversary in the competition. The design has been applauded by for improving upon the already-brilliant kits that served us from WC 71-74, while still staying true to the spirit of the beloved WC 54-69 classic kits. The home and away kits make heavy use of the national colours (blue, white, silver) and the majestic Cosumarite Azure Dragon that these lands are famous for. The goalkeeper kit features hints of the royal family's colors: Gold and Green.

Goalkeeper - Jakk Winterfyll - 30 -

Kingsgrove

Winterfyll is a rock-solid keeper, probably the most talented Cosumar has ever produced. He already has five World Cups under his belt and has started every match for Cosumar since World Cup 71. He dominated in the Harlighet Ligan with Crawford City FC early in his career, setting a record for clean sheets in a season. He then became a mainstay in Apox with Exton FC, blossoming into one of the world's elite goalkeepers. When the ANL collapsed, he took his talents to the A-League and won New Player of the Year in his debut season in Brenecia. He is known for his almost psychic anticipation and springy reflexes. Off the pitch, Winterfyll plays several Cosumarite folk instruments like the vevlira and the flojagu and is a regular contributor to the annual "Sounds of Ancient Cosumar" compilation CD. Full bio.

Left Back - Bacary Na'Kale - 21 -

Mâ Âlâmëómë

Just two years ago, Na'Kale was a very highly-rated Cassandra City academy product. Everyone heard the rumblings coming out of Cassandra about how great Na'Kale was, but he was shrouded in mystery. No one really knew much about him or had seen him play aside from a few appearances in the Di Bradini Cup. He had no first team club experience because of Cassandra's backlog of left backs. Oh, how that has changed. After finally making a few Harlighet Ligan appearances and doing *everything* right, outshining more established players at his position as a teenager, Cassandra City could not hold off the sudden rainfall of foreign bids. Mâ Âlâmëómë won Na'Kale's services and the Vloo won their starting job almost immediately. At 19 and 20, Na'Kale played the full season both years for the world-class Farf club and helped them to resurgent 3rd and 2nd-place finishes. Last year, he similarly held down the fort on the left for Cosumar's entire WC75 run to the Quarters. He has aced every test thrown at him with flying colors. There's no longer any mystery - Na'Kale has the makings of a world-class left back if he's not one already. His pace is his most noticeable attribute, but it is his intrinsic understanding of the position that makes him so special. His dribbling and cross are decent, but those are the main areas he can still improve.

Center Back - Alexander Soarhaven - 31 -

Violence Chariots

FC Jansberg have become the powerhouse of LigAnaia Nord, and Cosumarites will tell you that it is all because they regularly started three Cosumarite defenders. Soarhaven, Svensson and Jorgensen. Soarhaven often plays left black for club, but is a center back by trade and is comfortable switching between the two. Violence Chariots purchased Soarhaven from Jansberg a couple years ago, but he and Svensson should still have great chemistry as a central defense tandem from their time at Jansberg. Soarhaven, though much older, is newer to the National Team than Svensson. His wild success with Jansberg represented a late-career breakthrough and he earned his first caps in WC 74. His rise was made all the more impressive by the fact that he was coming off a long-term injury that sidelined him for an entire season. Soarhaven played for Stoneshore United in Cosumar before moving to Semarland and now Nephara. His most obvious attribute is his strong stocky build, but he's also deceptively quick and is quite good in the air (he can really soar).

Center Back - Peter Svensson - 25 -

FC Jansberg

Standout product of the Na'Malsille Mariners youth system. After shining in the Di Bradini Cup, he moved to FC Jansberg at age 19 when they were still in the Semarluundik Premarligaen. He immediately impressed, earning a starting job and helping Jansberg win the championship in his first season. He retained the job as the team moved up to LigAnaia, being arguably one of the best defenders in the league the last four years. Svensson has impressive bodily might, aerial ability on set-pieces, and sends a great pass forward. Physically, he's the complete center back. Earned his first cap towards the end of WC72 Qualifying and played sporadically in WC73. Svensson had a rocky time in AOCAF 49 in his first tournament as a full-fledged starter, making mental mistakes, but Ramsey didn't give up on him and he has since rebounded to become the heart of the Cosumarite defense. Is being tipped as future Cosumarite captain. He is the nephew of Herrgly Svensson, a famous Cosumarite daredevil known for skydiving out of a space station, and little brother of Erak Svensson, a Congressman.

Right Back - Sheldon Serra - 29 - Zenit Attawapiskat

Though small in stature, Serra is a dynamic wingback with real technical class. The undisputed first-choice right back since World Cup 73, he has ridded his game of the inconsistencies that bugged him early in his career. Serra was born and lived the first eight years of his life on a space station of neutral nationality, so his international eligibility was somewhat muddled once he returned to Earth and discovered his talent for football. Serra eventually attended university in Cosumar and fell in love with the country, becoming a citizen at age 20. He was named Best Defensive Player of Cosumar's collegiate league at age 21, and subsequently ventured overseas to Zenit Attawapiskat, where he has been ever since. He loves it in Quebec and has done well there for the last nine years, becoming a club legend as it escalated in status. With Zenit, he has played in the old Quebecois league, Repechage 49 (where they won the title) and now LigAnaia Nord. He has captained the team for the last five seasons and hopes to spend the rest of his career there. He has only just recently recovered from being shot at a Quebec night club, which caused him to miss the second half of Attawapiskat's last season.

Left Midfielder - Mauricio Sigler - 27 -

Holdenberg

Sigler has lived up to the hype since being labeled teen prodigy, crossing the line from "exciting young talent with potential" to true stardom when he won the Golden Ball (tournament MVP) at Cup of Harmony 64. His technical wizardry is superb and his pace is off the charts. He plays with a certain showmanship (swagger in every movement) that makes him incredibly entertaining to watch. In the Harlighet Ligan, he single-handedly propelled the newly-promoted Zakhoro Aces all the way to the top half in 1001 before being purchased by a club ranked in the UICA top ten. Taeshani titans Real Atlantea. After four seasons and four Champions Cup appearances there as one of their best players, Sigler was purchased by Holdenburg - becoming the first Cosumarite to play in the renowned Euran league. He was a finalist for Newcomer of the Year in Eura. He famously scored the game-winning penalty against Valanora in the World Cup 73 knockout stage, cementing his status as a Cosumarite legend forevermore.

Center Midfielder - Tiffany Elam - 24 -

Ibini FC

The only female on the roster for awhile, but not anymore! (de Marisco, McNessa and Heher). Elam just enjoyed a great sophomore season in the Vanorian top-flight and, in her first season as the starter, helped them claim 2nd place. Now, she will likewise get her first chance as the starter for Cosumar in a major tournament and Ramsey begins to test his options for life post-Vareza Na'Noni. At age 18, Elam turned down the #1 medical school in Cosumar to pursue her soccer career, moving to Kernansquillec to join Project X. She was one of the program's first standouts, immediately being offered a contract upon graduation to join Guingamp, one of Kernansquillec's biggest clubs. In three seasons there, she became one of their best players before moving on to Ibini. Elam was the captain of Cosumar's U21 side in two successful DBCs and transitioned seamlessly to the senior squad afterwards. A handful of appearances over the last three World Cup cycles. Elam's best attributes are her pace and incredible work rate. She is a true workhorse in midfield, covering more ground box-to-box than anyone else in every match. She's a good passer who can venture forward, but she really relishes breaking up play the most and goes about it with real steel.

Center Midfielder - Aziz Senturk - 29 -

Maximum Rovers

Senturk's evolution as a player has been exhilarating to watch. Early in his career he was incredibly frustrating to watch - one of those guys who would show flashes of brilliance every now and then but could never find it within himself consistently. But since taking a risky move to Nephara, Senturk has figured things out. It took a tough learning experience at South Laithland to get there, but he seems to now be at the right spot at Maximum Rovers and has established himself as a top player for the club. He has always had all the right ingredients to be a dominant force...pace, technical prowess, creativity, shooting. The difference is that now they come together on a weekly basis. Ramsey rewarded his success at Maximum Rovers with a starting role throughout World Cup 74, 75 and again here. Senturk is a sly, crafty figure in midfield. Never afraid to take on anyone, try out an unorthodox bit of skill or launch a long rage shot - his specialty. First choice to take long-range free kicks.

Right Midfielder - Ole Öhman - 32 -

Sabrefell Athletic

One of the most respected Cosumarite players around the world thanks to his sustained success with Sabrefell Athletic for several years. He has helped the Nepharim side win their league, the Globe Cup, and the Esportivan championship. A skilled attacking maestro, Ole can do it all - score, turn a fullback inside-out, square that perfect ball back to the middle or loft a pinpoint cross. And he is ambidextrous - equally good with both feet. That last part is huge as it allows Ramsey to employ him on the left or right or center. Made his debut as a promising teenage reserve in World Cup 69, but fell out of Farris Crowley's plans after accepting a lucrative contract to play his club ball in Florgania (a vastly inferior league). Returned to the fold in World Cup 71 after resurfacing in a big way as Debutant Of The Year in the Nepharim Premiership. He has reached his peak there and has stated his desire to stay at Sabrefell for the rest of his career. Had a great World Cup 75, notching 7 goals and 8 assists in the cycle. His main weakness is that he doesn't have the pace required of a truly world-class wide player. He's more of a floating playmaker on the right than a true winger at this point. He'll never get by a defender purely with his legs, especially not now at 32 having lost a bit of pace in the last year or so. First choice to take corners.

Striker - Anders Engström - 32 - CAPTAIN -

Crisisbless

The Cosumarite superstar of the current era. Engström (AKA Captain Andy) played the first part of his career at domestic club Mallox FC before finally being lured away by Crisisbless. With Cosumar, he occupies the "free-roaming second striker" role of the 4-4-2 slightly behind Worsaw, being the nimbler and more creative but smaller player of the two. Engström's technical skill is world-class - he can do amazing things with those small feet of his. His ability and killer instinct will be vital in setting up goal-scoring chances for others when he's not clinically burying shots himself. Though small in stature (5"8), his acceleration is of the rarest variety. With Mallox, Engström was voted Harlighet Ligan MVP multiple times and won three Golden Boots with four consecutive 20+ goal seasons. Pundits once criticized him for being unwilling to challenge himself in a foreign league, but he silenced them by becoming one of the best players in the world's best league. In Nephara, he regularly scores big goals (including the winner in the Cygnus Cup Final) and is a key playmaking force in a usually-fantastic Crisisbless team. Though 32, he has not slowed down yet at all. World Cup 75 was the most prolific cycle of his career, leading the team with 14 goals. Engström has been named one of the Top 20 players in the world by various foreign media outlets. First choice to take penalties and short-range free kicks.

Striker - Belarmin Worsaw - 28 - Tir Snake Strike

Worsaw is big and strong, but don't be fooled into thinking he's merely a target forward - he has great skill with the ball as well. He's a well-rounded striker with a natural nose for goal. The ex-Borderlandian was prolific in Cosumar for years. After arriving on the streets of Zakhoro as a young orphaned refugee, he was discovered by local club Zakhoro Aces and ended up scoring 16 goals in the Harlighet Ligan at age 18. After the Aces were relegated, he had a 30-goal season in the Sekundar Ligan at age 20. Back in the Harlighet Ligan again, he and fellow young star Mauricio Sigler guided Aces to a record 9th-place finish. He then left for bigger-fish Eastweald, and won two consecutive Golden Boots there (48 goals in 68 matches). Yet another upward move was due. To Wrexton FC, where he scored 14 goals in his debut season in Apox. But just when he had announced himself to the ANL, the league collapsed and he had to scramble to find a new club. Not everyone was sure about his decision to join Tir Snake Strike, but he forced himself into Ramsey's starting lineup (finally!) by ripping apart Cenileague with 29 goals in 30 matches while incumbent striker Ace Newman sat out due to the strike in San Jose Guayabal. He became eligible for Cosumar after the Western Borderlands government collapsed prior to WC 73. Now here we are, with the former Western Borderlands World Cup player suiting up for a different (and quite superior) nation this time.

The Rest of the Squad

GK - Esteban Hernandez - 27 -

Eastweald

The most extraordinary talent ever produced by the legendary Morponte Fief youth academy. This dude's frame is massive: 6"7, broad shoulders, long arms, enormous hands. Most people that size don't have the coordination to walk and chew gum at the same time, let alone take on Audioslavian strikers. But Hernandez is one of those rare freakish exceptions. If only Jakk Winterfyll wasn't so darn consistent ahead of him. But Hernandez's time will come, it's just a matter of when. After winning U21 Player of the Year in the Harlighet Ligan in 1001, and nearly taking MVP too, he secured a move to Mierton Manatees, one of the better teams from the Taeshani Premier League. After five seasons there, he returned to Cosumar last year and lead Eastweald to the brink of their first Harlighet Ligan championship. Fun tidbit: he nearly gave up on his professional soccer career at age 18 to go to culinary school instead.

LB - Jukka Lindroos - 31 -

Turoki United

Lindroos has been one of the best defenders in the V-League (Vilita) for years, starting with second-division Marine Coast United then gradually moving up: to Longgeylin Coast and now Turoki United. His hard work and consistency in one of the region's most historically storied leagues has been rewarded by Ramsey with a return to the national team. He was Cosumar's most reliable defender in World Cups 69-72 despite being the youngest, but fell off due to the emergence of Maynard Gorham. But now Lindroos is back for the first time since AOCAF 48. He dominated here in Cosumar early in his career, carrying the Centus Serpents to a promotion on a defense that allowed only 7 goals all season - a staggering record that still stands. His boyish face and long golden locks have charmed the media, but do not be fooled - he is ruthless on the pitch. He has irreproachable technique and discipline, and can make world-class stops in the back against the best of opponents. Doesn't have great pace or athleticism, but makes up for it with his relentless energy. Like a jolt of lightning every time he steps on the pitch. Plays a beautiful cross, though he is careful in picking his spots to go forward. He will get a look here in hopes of earning his regular spot back going into AOCAF 51.

CB - Deirdre McNessa - 26 -

Starling

McNessa came out of nowhere to make the WC 75 squad after Starling came out of nowhere to win the Nepharim Premiership. She actually had a promising early career in Cosumar, representing with our U21 and U23 sides while playing club ball for Pardock Island at their peak. But a slew of injuries sidetracked her development and Pardock Island ended up cutting their losses and letting her go when she couldn't stay healthy. At a crossroads, she signed for a newly-promoted team in Nephara, hoping to catch on there. Best decision of her life. Nepharim trainers worked wonders and she hasn't been hurt since. Four years later, she started every game en route to two Nepharim championships and Champions' Cup. In WC 75, she became the first female defender to earn a Cosumarite cap. Marvelous story. She is tall, slender, a good passer out of the back and fearless in the air despite her previous injuries.

CB - Torbjörn Jorgensen - 21 -

FC Jansberg

The last (and newest) of FC Jansberg's Cosumarite defensive trio, Jorgensen is a beast of a young defender. He wears his heart on his sleeve in every match, defending the goal from every cross, every dribble, every shot like it's his only reason to live. He was developed by the Real Azuris academy and broke into their regular starting line-up at age 18, shoring up their defense and kickstarting a title campaign. He was subsequently named Young Player of the Year and to the Harlighet Ligan's Best XI. At 18. His newfound stardom didn't go unnoticed and FC Jansberg subsequently added him to their collection of Cosumarite defenders. Alongside countrymen Soarhaven and Svensson, Jorgensen had a good debut season in LigAnaia and played a role in helping Jansberg to a 70-point season. When he still played in Cosumar, fans of rival teams cruelly called him "pizza-face" because of his bad acne, which he still bears.

RB - Tomasso Tenebrosa - 28 - Beckwith City

Tomasso is one of the most affable people you will ever meet, never losing his cool and constantly encouraging his teammates with smiles. He is a dynamic wingback who loves to press forward with pace, but Ramsey will need to teach him how to pick his spots because he has gotten burned in the back in the past as a result. Has some good skill with the ball and plays a nice cross, so he could play as a RM if needed. Came up through the FC Kaldukosic youth system and was a regular for Cosumar U18 and U21. Completed a big-money move to Ramusok United at 22 and helped the Blues win their second title in his first season. Was later sold to Beckwith, where he went on a nice Globe Cup run last season. Tenebrosa did well as the first-choice RB in the Cup of Harmony that Cosumar won, but has been gradually relegated back to more of a reserve role since the arrival of Gethin Ramsey, who favors Sheldon Serra.

DM - Olaf Womack - 30 - Twentytwo Cacti

Bulldog of a defensive midfielder who has played for clubs such as Versiaville SC (Cosumar), Rannin FC (Estenia) and now Twentytwo Cacti in 95X. Relentless pest of a player. Probably the strongest muscles on the team. And ugliest (#punchablefaces). Looks like 95% of his body weight is in his absolutely ripped torso. Not very skilled, but deceptively smart. Gets away with a lot and really grates on opponents' nerves, often coaxing them into yellow or red cards. Probably won't see much action unless Ramsey feels the need for his very specific attributes. But a worthy inclusion because there's not another player quite like him in our talent pool, so he lends some versatility and flexibility in the midfield depth.

LM - Lucius Kaspian - 29 -

Starling

The ten-year Klyde FC man will finally get his shot in the Dragonshirt after making an ambitious move to Nepharim defending champions Starling, holding his own there, and playing regularly en route to a successful title defense campaign. Long in the national team discussion but never capped, Kaspian will take great delight in finally ending the debate and proving to everybody that he belongs. He's very one-footed, but by god his left foot is amazing. It weighs the perfect pass every time - and can hurt you with a shot too with enough time and space. Lucius is also a bit of sex symbol in Cosumar, and now Nephara, often seen shirtless on billboard ads with his long hair flowing in the wind.

CM/DM - Vareza Na'Noni - 34 -

Avenida Principal

One of three Vloo players at the Eagles' Cup, Na'Noni is still world-class at age 34. In his prime, he could play almost any position due to his understanding of the game, calmness with the ball and lethal combination of size, strength and pace. Most of those things are still there, but his legs have slowed down a little. After success at FC Samotath in Cosumar, Na'Noni announced himself to the world with a brilliant World Cup 69. His breakout performances caught the eye of Red Star Severny of Polar Islandstates, making him the first Cosumarite to play in a league ranked #1 in the world. Four years in the Polarian league facilitated even more improvement for the talented Vloo and he has been a constant fixture for the National Team ever since. Mostly as a box-to-box midfielder, but also as a #6 and fullback. He has spent the last several years in Farfadillis playing for Avenida Principal since he couldn't any longer take the frigid weather in Severny. He has become a bona-fide club icon for Avenida Principal, helping them win the title and scoring the winning goal of the Globe Cup Final. Na'Noni is known for his eye-popping tattoos, including detailed patterns of constellations across his arms, a roaring dragon on his neck, and an elaborate sunset on his forehead. CM - Jo de Marisco - 29 -

Eastweald

With one cap for Apox, the Barbury native became a dual-national by obtaining Cosumarite citizenship after living and playing here for the last five years at Eastweald. And just before WC 75, with Apox on hiatus from the WCC, de Marisco switched colors to represent Cosumar for the first time. She has been one of the best creative forces in the Harlighet Ligan over the last several years (including an MVP award this season) and should have good chemistry with Belarmin Worsaw up top. She assisted him for goals dozens of times when he was at Eastweald. De Marisco might just have the best footwork in the Harlighet Ligan, frequently showing off backheels and other flourishes during games - to devastating effect. Short but pacy. Also a great set-piece and penalty taker. Her and Senturk are very even, so she may see some starts.

RM - Frazan Va'Goshal - 30 -

Galatica

The third Vloo member of the team, Va'Goshal is a productive and above-average international winger. He can get the job done against any level of competition, though he has never quite been as outstanding for country as for club. Established himself as a young star at FC Kaldukosic then cashed-in in the Pasargan SuperLiga. He has been solid all eight years at Galatica, but has really stepped up as one of their best players in the latter half of his tenure, cracking SuperLiga Best XI lists. This has helped him finally win over Gethin Ramsey and cement himself as a regular in the squad recently. Va'Goshal is here for his impact as a late sub, blazing down the right flank with pace. He is not a great shot-taker, but he excels at creating angles and windows of space with the ball. He is a true playmaker in this respect, clinical in his manipulation of defenses. He has pledged to donate any earnings from the Eagle's Cup to Operation Goodness, a secular charity based in Kaldukosic.

AM - Alora Heher - 22 -

Alnio

Heher (pronounced: hay-er) has burst onto the scene in a big way over the last two years. Last year, she took home MVP honors of the Cosumarite collegiate league after an eye-opening season for Ramusok Capital University in her senior year - her first as starter. This year, she escalated her rapid development even further, becoming one of the best players in Chromatika in just one season at Alnio, scoring 17 goals. Though collegiate football has been diminished by the growth of Harlighet Ligan club academies and Chromatika is still a young league, her accomplishments in each did not go unnoticed by Gethin Ramsey. This will be an opportunity for her to impress and earn a first cap. Heher is extremely fast and energetic, wearing out defenders over the course of the game. Most impressive though is her killer instinct in the final third. Excels threading that perfect ball through the defense. Needs to improve her first touch in tight quarters.

ST - Tevin Lilley - 28 - Rozelle

Lilley was Cosumar's top striker at the U23 and U21 levels, and is now in the groove of his prime as a striker for both club and country. He has embraced his role as a super-sub for Cosumar and has been "first striker off the bench" for the last few tournaments, including WC 75. But after scoring 76 goals for A-League stalwarts Rozelle in the last four seasons, including three Golden Boots, many are calling to see him in a more prominent role. With Captain Andy getting older, they might just get their wish soon. Lilley has always been distinguished by his physical gifts and fiery competitiveness, but along the way of going from Cassandra City to Taeshan to Brenecia he has polished his technique and movement tremendously.

ST - Ace Newman - 31 -

CD FAS

Ace Newman terrorized domestic defenses for Cassandra City in his early 20s, winning the club its first Harlighet Ligan championship before moving on to terrorize ANL defenses with Urbanista (double-digit goals four years in a row). He has been an explosive presence leading the line for Cosumar since WC 70, in which he could've been a candidate for Best Young Player of the tournament. Newman had a monstrous 17-goal World Cup 73 cycle, which was the most goals any Cosumarite not named Sur Arora has ever scored in one cycle. Best on the team at scoring with his head thanks to his insane leaping ability and height, but his best attribute is his strength. He frequently will fire off powerful shots despite defenders draped all over him. He just shrugs them off. His job is to leverage these things to put the ball in the back of the net, and he is laser-focused on that task when he's on the pitch. He lost his starting job to Belarim Worsaw last year as a result of not playing club football when his new club CD FAS went on strike with the rest of the Guayabalense league. Nevertheless, he was still a key part of the WC 75 run as a frequent and trusted sub, scoring four goals off the bench. He is perhaps Cosumar's most "clutch" player - he knows how to come up with big goals in big moments.

As RPed here, Farris Crowley was removed from his post as head coach of Cosumar after 38 years. The man who has replaced him is none other than...Gethin Ramsey. The Nepharim icon is probably one of the very few men who could immediately step into Crowley's shoes and own the position. The 73-year-old is exceedingly accomplished on both the international and domestic stages. He led Nephara to their first World Cup Finals (67) and successfully qualified with The Licentian Isles every year there. You can now add a Cup of Harmony triumph in his Cosumar debut to the list, as well as trips to the Quarterfinals and Round of 16. In the Nepharim Premiership, he made his name as a club legend at Chenoworth Rovers and eventually coached powerhouse AFC Treason to the title. Oft considered the best manager Nephara has ever produced, Ramsey's hire was a universally applauded and he has since become beloved by Cosumarite fans, players and media alike. The gaffer is best known for his ability to motivate players. He knows how to speak to them, how to identify with them - and they feed off his unwavering confidence. His harsh disciplinary style and frequent hairdryer treatments is a contrast to the patient, old-sage-mentor approach of Farris "Master Miyagi" Crowley. Ramsey brings with him his trusty tactical expert, Marlena Scamander, from AFC Treason.

Assistant Manager: Kennedy Kopenhaver

World Cup 75 was Kopenhaver's sixth as Assistant Manager since the sacking of Truda Jotunnoj after World Cup 69 (someone had to be the scapegoat for the team's failures and it wasn't going to be Crowley...yet). Kopenhaver, 58, was once a terrific center back in World Cups 55-57, back when Crowley was establishing his legacy. He was infamous in Cosumar for being one of the most intense players ever to step on a pitch. He would stop at nothing to win, even if it meant angrily telling his teammates what's what or getting himself a card to send a message. After retiring, Kopenhaver attempted a broadcasting career but was not happy. It was too far removed from the action! He then took to coaching, and spent six years as an assistant to Alvin Burnsides at Mallox FC. After being skipped over for the managerial vacancy at Miners 47 in Apox, he jumped on the chance to work for Crowley, his former mentor, with the National Team. Kopenhaver should bring a lot of passion and energy to the team that Crowley and Jotunnoj hadn't been able to provide. He is a rare man - physically imposing yet keenly intelligent. Deceptively clever and excels at game strategy. Really knows how to motivate players.

Childrenville. Have you ever been to a towning whose only populace are a bunch of kids and some adults on creepy lab suits?

Well, that's my hometown. Or rather, our. I know it because I'm one of the oldest kids on the place. Then again, codename PROTOTYPE-1 should tell it straight away.
I'm the first kid that was made at the Floating Artificial Area of Nova. Well, not made as in love-mating made, scientifically made.
My name on the Sunrisian database is Leo Currien, the first of the ten Currien kids. I know you must be wondering how one gets so many kids, but it's kinda simple.
Currien is actually a doctor from the RyoCo, the guys that engineered us. When no couple on the Floating Area wants to adopt you, they have you become the kid of a worker from these parts.
Thing is, Dr. Ray Currien as so good at this whole thing, they decided to let him adopt the first two kids that came out of it alive. Funny how he didn't fail on both first tries.
Guess that's how they made sure he wouldn't screw up until others figured out how to repeat the process.
Still, I'm proud to say that I'm the first prototype of the whole lot. Means that either I was the one they screwed up the most or the one that became the mold for the rest. Dunno.
And the Prototype-2? That'd be my sister Leona Currien.
Don't know really why we're so different, though. I mean, besides the obvious.

"Anything bothers you, brother?" Asked Leona Currien, a girl with red hair and pale skin, her eyes with a fiery tone of orange.

It's crazy to think for a good while, we were the only two kids at Childrenville for the first three years.
And even then, she was such a brat! If I dared to toy with any of the other kids, she'd be on my back in a minute later, telling me how wrong it was for me to steal candy from them or hide their dolls.
To top it all off, when the guys at the company said they'd send a football team to an invitational tournament, I thought this would be the one moment I'd be able to leave her sight.
But nope!

"I'd suggest you to spend hours thinking at your own leisure instead of stopping us from getting to the bus." She said, walking around him and entering the RyoCo bus that prepared to leave the Childrenville settlement. Other players passed by afterwards.

Still, I know this is the gateway to a new life.
You know, live in a big city, leave Childrenville behind.
It could even be Saintsville, for all I care.

Visiting San José Guayabal is not a complicated process if we take in consideration the restrictions to visit other neighboring countries, as the provisions of international travel are applied for each foreign visitor and there’s enough facilities to host fans during their visit, while the transport is efficient and fast. International flights usually land at five airports, one for each region of the country, being the El Roblar International Airport designated to the west, Luis Barbosa Airport in Vladivostok for the central region and San Salvador International Airport to the east, the latter being the most important because of its location in the capital and then the other two airports are Lulai International Airport which is designed for the Overseas Colony of Paymina while Rossana is served by the Spesdorf International Airport. From this five airports you can basically connect all the other main cities all over San José Guayabal, since provincial flights are usual, at least two flights per day to any provincial airport (there are two provincial airports in each province, one in the capital and other in a strategically placed city of the province).

San José Guayabal is a well-connected country, from east to west and all over the colonies, the 2,7 million square kilometers of land of this nation are reachable in different ways, depend on what kind of tourist you are or your economical possibilities, there’s basically no way to stay quiet in this country. Let’s start with the methods of payment: transportation in SJG is paid in two ways, physical currency or token system, tokens are basically cards that are rechargeable and allows you to get into trains, local and interprovincial busses and ferries, depending your need both are accepted and the costs are not high, a ride in a local bus may cost from C$0.20 to C$1.30 (NS$0.4 – NS$2.60) the busses usually connects all the places from the city and are fast. Football in San José Guayabal is the sport that moves the masses, on any day and at any time of day is normal to see children playing football in the streets of residential areas or football academies, the youth guys in the communities playing football in tournaments, or at academies of professional or semiprofessional teams, adults meet after the workday with peers and then perform matches, as a distraction from work stress and also the elderly and women, who do not hesitate to leave their detention work in order to enjoy the football. Through this we can deduce that as people get involved in football in an active way, so is his passion.

Vilitan Venues for Eagle's Cup VI

Matchday 1 v. Tumbra:: Lirai Asku Castle, Yeaddin, Vilita (62,000)

This historical aged castle was converted into a sporting arena by the Yeaddin Owls who promised to pay for maintenance on the Castle Exterior while building their stadium against the vacant inner walls of the structure. Despite its relatively low capacity compared with other stadiums in the Tropics of Vilita, the atmosphere provided by the Lirai Asku Castle both inside and out makes it a popular choice to host international matches in World Cup, Cup of Harmony, Baptism of Fire and AOCAF competition.

While much of the stadium and its surroundings are considered historical, there are modern amenities available as well as required to support major international sport including public transportation, vending and temperature control on an as-required basis. Media boxes, team bench areas and locker rooms are already in the process of being updated in support of a return to the Stellar Division.

The Lirai Asku Castle is also in shared proximity to the Owl's Castle Academy, a top class youth development facility home to Vilita's leading youth program who have, in recent seasons, outshown the performances of their storied parent affiliation club the Yeaddin Owls.

Matchday 3 v. Unified Sunrise Islands:: Tivali Ring Stadium, Alikki-Corra (87,000 Seated)

The Football Association of Vilita is based at the Tivali-Ring Stadium in the capital city of Alikki-Corra, Vilita and many National Team training sessions take place on the grounds of the Tivali Ring. The Football Association regularly schedule matches at arenas throughout Vilita, especially bigger matches as many of the stadiums that host Stellar Division and UICA competition matches have expanded far beyond the capacity of the National Stadium at Tivali Ring, which is used only for the National Team, and, for the Vilitan Cup Final and Tropical Trophy matchup. In addition to its World Cup matches, 'The Ring' hosted the 40th UICA Series 'B' Champions Cup Final. The stadium was constructed as part of the Vilitan bid to host the World Cup 14 Cup of Harmony as a replacement to the former National Stadium in Lopinka that was destroyed during a regional conflict. The Venue was also home to the 55th UICA Champions Cup Final.

Matchday 5 v. Turori:: Lonngeylin Coliseum, Lonngeylin, Vilita (115,500 Seated; 141,000 Standing Room)

Home of the Vilitan Stellar Division champions, Jungle Strike FC, Lonngeylin Coliseum is the biggest sporting arena in the Vilitan Cove and was chosen exactly for this purpose. Not so much 'butts in seats' - because almost one-third of the estimated attendees would be standing on the Vilitan hillside, but the capacity to hold large volumes was just one of the perks to holding the match in Lonngeylin.

One of the oldest yet most expansive stadiums in Vilita, the stadium has undergone several renovations, name changes and expansions in its long history, which included being a knockout venue for the World Cup 17 and 31 finals. Most notably, the seated sections of the Coliseum went through a complete overhaul between League Seasons 25-35 where sections were closed incrementally for upgrades. The Coliseum is known for its unique hillside accommodation which enhances one of the most impressive match atmospheres in the region.

Most famously, however, the Lonngeylin Coliseum was the venue for the World Cup 59 final that pitted The Babbage Islands against Aguazul. It was an epic championship final with the two sides fighting to a goalless draw after extra time before Aguazul triumphed in the shootout for their historic third consecutive World Cup title. The facilities at the Lonngeylin Coliseum had been upgraded over the year to handle the over-capacity crowd and extended match timeline. The venue was also selected for the Vilitan half of the "Battle of the Cove" - when Vilita & Turori were drawn against each other during World Cup 64 Qualifying and will once again host a great clash between the two colonial rivals during the Eagles Cup VI.
