Attackers are holding about 40 hostages in a restaurant in Dhaka right now. It's still unclear which group the attackers affiliate with, but DAESH and al-Qaeda are both potential suspects. The restaurant is supposedly located near some embassies, including the American embassy. The area likely has many foreigners there, and westerners are likely among the hostages.
Bangladesh has been subject to violence lately, as around 40 people have been killed by radical Islamist militants since 2013, with secular bloggers, gay rights advocates, and religious minorities among them.

The crisis is still ongoing and much is still unclear. I offer my most sincere condolences to the families of all who are harmed in this attack and hope that it is resolved soon enough. Please discuss.

Sometimes. Right now we have no understanding of who it is but either way this is bad. Army has put its neighborhoods on lockdown. No one goes in or out and that area is out of bounds.
