This rp will focus on an event where multiple nations send religious dignitaries to share knowledge of their faith(s) and demonstrate a significant ceremony in the name of tolerance, which will go horribly awry when a hostile group decides to crash said event to make a name for itself. Xiscapia has volunteered to play both the bad guys and one of the guests, so the rest of us can focus on first showcasing their nation's culture and faith(s) and staying alive (or not). This will start as a cultural event in a neutral sector and probably end in a hostage situation. Each representative will be allowed to bring guardians if they so choose, though since this is meant to be a cultural even you might want to avoid bringing too much firepower unless your dignitaries don't mind looking gauche.

I think the first thing we should figure out is wether the event will be held on a space station or planet, and who hosts the event. I guess it would make sense for me to provide the location as the one who came up with this thread, but I'm not gonna say no if someone else wants to host the event ^^

I would be willing to host. The planets in my nation have a relative amount of autonomy, so there is a lot of cultural difference everywhere. So, it would make sense for us to have a space station where there are people from all over the galaxy, where they can meet, trade and share ideas.

Absolutely, play what you like. And whoever ends up hosting the convention will hopefully provide food and temporary quarters free of charge, as my people don't even use any kind of currency, physical or digital.

Personality: Buoyed by recent victories, Hisae is a bold, confident, and daring vixen. Her extroverted nature would seem to put her at odds with the usual stereotype of brooding Xiscapian psychics and grizzled hunters, but she relies on meeting people to exchange information about various threats and to find targets. Like most such psychics she is willful and has discipline mixed with an undercurrent of strong emotion that makes her naturally proficient in the art of Curse School psionics practiced by some Xiscapians.
Equipment: As her picture indicates Hisae tends to travel lightly, as her own innate abilities provide for virtually all of her own needs. Her main items are half a dozen trophies from targets she has slain, including four acid-coated bone knives made from the ribs of a Clak-Tok Claw Lord, the skull of Inyis the Deepling that grants her resistance to fire, and the skull of the Allevian Rok that provides her with limited levitation.
Faith: Due to the nature of her abilities Hisae is closely connected with the Xiscapian god Bodom, whose servants appears in her dreams with portents and advice. Unlike many of her kind she is not directly associated with the Cult of Bodom, having broken off from the organization several years ago after a dispute with the Mistress of her chapter.
Anything else: While Hisae is capable of sharing knowledge about her connection with her god, the main reason she is in attendance is simply to interact with members of other religious orders in the galaxy so she can learn about what beasts may face them. As she is perpetually on the hunt she is always looking for foes to destroy in order to increase her own power and prestige. This event seems like an ideal place to get that sort of information. She is traveling with the Huerdaen Captain Fen'Sallis aboard his ship, the Swallowtail-class Future Undiscovered.

Appearance: Chiyose has the appearance of a slender and very youthful woman with one green eye and one gold eye, and long red hair with thick black streaks and tips, tied into a thick knotted braid that drapes over one shoulder and ends in a heart-shaped opening. She often wears the robes of her office, being a white kimono with a yellow hakama and golden accents along the trimming, as well as a bright yellow stole draping down either side that has the symbol of her Sect at the ends: a pair of stylized chairs in front of a flame, as if sitting at a fireplace.
Personality: Chiyose has a gentle and warm personality that augments her appearance. She is a soft-spoken, polite, and caring woman who uses honorifics when addressing everyone, including her subordinates and the enemy. She rarely shows any signs of panic or distress, and has a great sense of duty. She is always willing to help out others, and often uses her abilities to heal people. With her grace and kind manners, she lets others know quietly that while she may be soft, she is not to be taken lightly.
Equipment: Chiyose is clad in her traditional robes as a high-ranking member of the Order of the Golden Heart, the Order in Houseidou that is devoted to the Virtue of Compassion. She also possesses a very formal furisode for special occasions, emblazoned with the emblem of the Order of the Golden Heart, as well as yellow roses. She can even wear a more business-proper suit, or a casual dress.
Faith: Chiyose is the head of the Sect of Open Hearths, a specialized group of Houseidan clergy that focus on establishing and maintaining diplomatic relations with other organizations outside of the faith and its adjoining interstellar government. She believes in following the Seven Virtues and Three Principles, and her work in particular focuses on the Virtue of Compassion.
Anything else: Chiyose is a member of the clergy of Houseidou, specifically, one of the Kouaijou (Phoenix Children), human women modified by their goddess to not only possess some telepathic abilities, but also the mysterious ability to heal others and create and manipulate heat and flames. She is also ageless, stuck at a perpetual late-20s (Terran reckoning).

Appearance: Tall and slim, with curly brown hair, which he keeps in a simple cut, able to be covered by a hat or hood. A well trimmed beard, as well as glasses, give him the appearance of a kindly teacher.
Personality: Good natured and friendly, Abdul is a curious soul at heart. He spends as much time as he can reading, trying to get a better understanding of the world, and teaching others, to try and spread the knowledge he has in an effort to make the universe a better place. Always open for a laugh, he is not above being teased a little, and enjoys when people point out the flaws in anything he believes, so that he can try and learn and understand religion and life better.
Equipment: White and black robes, and a Quaran.
Faith: Abdul is a Sunni Muslim, and believes deeply in the teachings of the Quaran, though he takes great care to try and interpret them for the modern world of spaceflight, and alien contact.
Anything else: His rather liberal attitude towards life and separate belief systems are a source of much controversy, but were ultimately what prompted him to be chosen to attend the Ceremony, as most believed he would be the most personable and accepting of the many different faiths that would be present.

Abdul is also very popular with the UHP government, and people due to his understanding and forward looking beliefs. (he occupy s a similar role that Pope Francis is occupying today) For this reason the UHP feels very protective of him in his outing to the Ceremony.

Name: Alistair McLaughlin

Appearance:

Personality: Quiet and serious, Alistair is no nonsense, though as a whole friendly. He prefers to keep to himself though, and trys to be as professional as he can when he is deployed. Despite his serious exterior, he also an intelligent and philosophical man, who thinks very deeply about life and what it means to him.
Equipment: For his deployment with the Allamah, he is wearing only a simple black suit, and carrying a PM22 semi auto pistol. He has his dog tags, and a small radio earpiece, to communicate with the SS Neil Armstrong.
Faith: Alistair is an Atheist.
Anything else: Alistair's rank is Astronaut Petty Officer First Class, frequently abbreviated to simply APO, or APO First Class, putting him in command of the three other guardians accompanying the Allamah to the Ceremony.

The SS Neil Armstrong is a battleship in the UHP Spacey, and is deployed with the Allamah's ship as a safety net to protect UHP assets, due to the Allamahs value as a cultural, religious, academic and political icon.

Appearance: Short and thin, she is the perfect size for the Spacey. She has sharp features, with high cheekbones and a scar that cuts through her right eyebrow. Her eyes sport deep crows feet, which makes her seem intelligent and experienced. Her hair is brown, though it is kept short, shaved like all soldiers in the UHP military. Even if it was longer, she is also a devout Muslim, and covers he head with a headscarf.
Personality: As an officer, Hamna is serious and strict, though fair. She trys to spend time with the people who she is commanding. She is a soldier through and through, the Spacey being her life, career, and passion all in one.
Equipment: Blue Spacey jumpsuit, grey headscarf, her dog tags, and a key card to the sections of the ship off limits to enlisted soldiers, most notably her personal quarters, and the nuclear torpedo launch button.
Faith: Sunni Muslim. She is practicing, though it is not a major part of her life.
Anything else: Hamnas official rank is Captain Astronaut of the Spacey.

She has little bedside manner, and is a little awkward in social situations. Despite this, she is very capable, and manages to find respect wherever she goes.


So, just for reference, Spacey is what the name of the Space Navy in the UHP. It i just a combination of space and navy. Ive got all kinds of different terms and lore for my nation, so if anyone ever is confused, just feel free to ask me and I can explain.

Also, the UHP is fairly new to galactic politics, and while they have proven themselves the have a relatively powerful economy and military, there is little contact with alien nations. This is the reason for the attendance of UHP dignitary's at the event, to try and build diplomatic relations.

[Huerdae]

Name: Captain Fen'Sallis, Retired
Age: 61
Species: Cybernetic Human (Huerdaen)
Gender: Male
Occupation: Guard, Associate, and Collector of Rare Antiquities
Appearance: Fen'Sallis is a smart-looking man, who walks with a gait that casually informs others that he is not only comfortable in his own skin, but confident in a position of authority as well. He wears finer clothes with a practiced ease, and is otherwise unremarkable among Huerdaen, with a deep green eye that gives away his family's recent roots on the homeworld, and a nearly-black hair. Like many of his people, his age is difficult to tell, with many augmentations slowing external signs of aging to keep him appearing as a man in his older twenties. He is slightly better fed than most of his people, owing to a time spent away from the Star Empire's rations, but keeps a lean figure regardless. He attends the event wearing the smart-looking black in a collared shirt and straight slacks, but almost no adornment. His appearance is maintained by a finely crafted thigh holster for his pistol, accented in silver and gold against the black that otherwise dominates his clothing. He is slightly taller than most Huerdaen, at 5'5".
Personality: Fen'Sallis is smart, curious, and outgoing. He is quick to try to fit in and smile, and just as quick to brush off an insult, which makes him unlike most Huerdaen known by those beyond the Domain. He has an avid interest in 'abnormalities' such as those that Hisae hunts, other cultures, and objects of religious or cultural significance. He has maintained his own collection of these sorts of artifacts which he keeps in careful pristine order. He is a man of interest, often driven to investigate, and tends to be quick-witted.
Equipment: Modified Phoenix pistol to contain a single-shot Siren barrel, personal shield generator (on belt), and combat knife in boot.
Faith: Like most Huerdaen, Fen'Sallis is avowedly atheist, though he finds cultures and religions fascinating. It is for that reason that he has been traveling some time with Hisae, using her work to explore a different type of world than the one he has known.
Anything else: Fen is associated with Hisae and acting as an associate and guard at this function. Their interactions are not that of employee and employer, however, instead leaning toward that of business partners, where each of them find particular interest in the work they do. Fen also acts as a counter-point to Hisae's approach to 'abnormalities', taking different routes often toward the same goal.

[The Vrree Nations]

Personality: curious, calm, level-headed, polite, very empathetic, an eager learner
Equipment: The aforementioned belt and jewelry, plus herbs and a portable burner for a shamanic ritual should anyone be interested in participating (he's not really expecting anyone to though)
Faith: Animist. This is a very common belief system among the Vrree. Many Vrree believe that all living things, and even groups of living things, have a spirit. Futhermore, there are many non-corperial entities that pervade the fabric of reality. Shamans like Kele are tasked with helping people keep their own spirits in good health, and to deal with supernatural entities if and when this becomes necessary.
Anything else: He is a people person, and has always been fascinated by alien entities, be they flesh or spirit. It was these attributes that put him on the path to becoming a shaman. Later on, he was recruited by the Vrree Diplomatic Corps. When dealing with aliens or exploring the galaxy, having knowledge of how to deal with entities beyond Vrree understanding is a surprisingly useful skill. Kele uses these skills as a first contact specialist for the Corps. When not fulfilling his primary duties, he attends to the spiritual needs of his fellow Corps members. The Vrree religious delegation is largely his brainchild, and the other two members are personal acquaintances of his. He has a keen interest in theology, and he is widely read regarding several Vrree religions.

Personality: extroverted, talkative, outgoing, good-humoured, helpful
Equipment: the aforementioned regalia, plus some ritual astronomical instruments and a datapad that includes (among other things) a star map and an almanac of celestial movements.
Faith: Celestialism. It is a religion centered on a star god and a world goddess. According to this religion, all happenings in the world can be explained by the interaction of these dieties, the dualistic forces that they represent, and the celestial bodies under their respective domains. Celestialism's interest in biology and astronomy helped spur on those sciences during the Vrree Nations' early history.
Anything else: Lunkaia was born the son of a sun priest and an earth priestess. Although he was not obligated to do so, he chose to follow in his father's footsteps to become a sun priest. However, his training unlocked a passionate love of astronomy in him. Wanting to pursue his new passion, Lunkaia joined the Celestial Exploration Society as an astrographer. Even so, he hasn't given up on his original career choice, and he does his best to balance the two.

Faith: Trinitarianism. It is a religion that focuses around three dieties: Seixaa, the goddess of birth and creation, Tauwryen, the god of growth and preservation, and Vaorwle, the goddess of death and destruction. Seixaa creates new things, Vaorwle destroys old things, and Tauwryen maintains and improves that which already exists, He also keeps the goddesses, who are also his wives, in check, lest Seixaa overwhelm the universe with endless creation or Vaorwle destroy all that exists.
Anything else: Initially, Maewa wanted to do her part and help defend the Vrree Nations as a warrior in the Vrree Species Defence Alliance. This she did, and she served with distinction. Later on, she answered a request from the priestesshood of Voarwle for new members. Maewa fit the requirements since she was both female and had taken a sentient life. At first it was just another job for her, but she soon came to feel genuine devotion to her order. She enjoys the power and conviction that her faith gives her, as well as the dark mystique that it gives her to strangers. In her capacity as warrior/priestess, she protects her people, and destroys to appease her goddess. She is here to provide insight into the "darker" side of Vrree religion, as well as to provide protection for the delegation.

My nation is very new future tech, so I would say more on the clunk side of the spectrum. But, there is still a certain quality to to it. (Think Halo)

I would say that there should be time for meet-and-greet while everyone is still arriving, and once folks are assembled the rituals can get underway. Give everyone enough time to get to know each other and play their characters a bit before disaster strikes. As for the specific timing of the attack I'll leave that up to the general consensus.

I would agree with this. We should have some time for all of us to settle in with our characters before anything crazy happens.

Appearance: Takao depicts herself as a young woman in her late teens or early 20s in either the standard white Celestial Navy dress uniform with gold and silver trim, or the grey semi-armored leopard suit with gold and red trim that is used as the Navy's work uniform. She has short-cropped black hair with blue streaks tied back into a ponytail that has blue ends, and blue eyes. She loves to dress her android up in frilly dresses and pretty kimonos, which she regularly presents to her fellow crew.
Personality: Takao is a bit narcissistic and overconfident, as well as prone to be a bit overly dramatical. However, she is curious and willing to learn, and will not act out as much when she is engaged in her duties. She is very proud of the ship she is a part of, and is the avatar of, and loves to boast of her vessel's capabilities. She is also protective of her crew, acting like a scolding daughter or little sister to many of them, though she tries to keep her cool around her superiors, and has a crush on her CO. She also thinks her new Celestial Marine compliment is super-cool, and looks up to the older ships of the Celestial Navy (or at least their AI components) and is giddy over seeing the launch of her new "little sister", the SCNS Atago, which is the second Takao-class Heavy Cruiser, shortly before her departure on her current mission to escort Mother Superior Hayashibara.

How will these rituals go? Any conflict between dignitaries before the Xi?

Imperia is the main religion in the Empire. While not a true religion as many would call it, many people follow its teachings that anyone can accomplish something. Its main teachings follow the Emperor and what he says or orders. While definitely not seen as a god, the Emperor is an almost-entity to the followers of Imperia. They don't really worship, but rather study the Imperia book, with the occasional, "So help me the Emperor."

I might be interested in joining, but seeing as how I don't really want to do a religious dignitary, how would a merchant be? I was thinking they could sell "relics" and crap to use in ceremonies or whatever- if you need fancy crystals or the fingerbones of saints or whatever (or someone's fingerbones, anyways), they could be somewhere near this convention selling such things.

Seriously though, it sounds like a fine character concept, so go right ahead. Also, I'll try to have both my character descriptions and the IC thread by sunday.

As for how these rituals will go, I imagine each nation will be able to reserve a room and time window where they can perform their rites for others, preferably with enough time between the events that visitors won't have tk skip watching one or leave early to see another. A convention like this could very well take a week to give everyone enough time. As for what kind of rituals, that depends on you.

Name: Súre pẹlu aanu (blessed with compassion)
Age: 32
Species: Niuti
Gender: Male
Occupation: religious dignitary
Appearance: Stretching roughly 5'7 from his head to the tip of his snakelike lower body, Súre has smooth asparagus-green skin and large, expressive dark blue eyes. He usually paints his lips the same color as his eyes, and both his head crest (which also shows additional marks in white and black) and ceremonial robe that covers all four of Súre's arms and the symbiotic bodysuit he wears beneath it like most Niuti display circular patterns in the same color.Súre usually leaves the head portion of his symbiosuit open, instead wearing it like an open hood. A round white soulstone inscribed with his name, caste and occupation hangs from Súre neck.
Personality: True to his name, Súre is compassionate, welcoming and kind, and well as patient and knowledgeable. He can be dramatic and intense if the situation calls for it, and is equally comfortable talking and listening to others. While he wishes to see others join the Star Community and embrace their true purpose, he realizes that this convention is perhaps not the best place to attempt to convert people to his religion or to talk them into becoming a citizen of the Star Community, and will only attempt to do so if a person looks clearly lost and in need of aid.
Equipment: A wrist-mounted communicator, a ceremonial censer-staff that can be opened to release lightly frangrant incense, herbs for use in shamanic rituals and a small oval container to carry the soulstones of the faithful.
Faith: Aye pẹlu idi, the most widespread religion in the Star Community (while not the state religion) informs much of the way of life and laws within it and is based on a modified (many Genomitans would say the original) form of the religion of the Niuti from the time before the original Genomitans were forced to abandon their homeworld. It's teachings hold that each person is born for a specific purpose in life and should dedicate themselves to the pursuit of that purpose for the good of both the community and their soul, whichis reflected by the five castes of the Star Community. It's adherents worship a pantheon of gods and goddesses, each with distinct roles, and also includes animistic and shamanistic elements such as the belief that everything has a soul, including certain areas, exceptionally skillfully created objects or artificial organisms.
Anything else: Súre and Tẹ have been friends since they went to school together, and they are quite close to each other. Súre has recently come to realize that he might feel more for Tẹ than friendship, but has yet to broach the subject with her, partially out of fear of making their relationship awkward.

Appearance: Somewhat taller/longer than Súre and with a soldier's build, Te has dark brown skin that turns to almost caramel brown on her back and bright yellow eyes. Her symbiotic uniform has additional armor in vital areas to increase her survivability without impeding mobilty, and includes a vest with numerous pockets. She also wears a soulstone that is set into her armored vest, but can be removed to be worn as a necklace.
Personality: Tẹ lai kikan is focused, cool-headed and attentive as befitting a professional soldier and bodyguard, and usually treats people she doesn't know with a professional attitude that can make her seem cold, untrusting and buttoned-up, though that changes when she knows she can trust someone. She is usually content to let Súre do the talking unless needed, but can be rather commanding and even intimidating if she wants.When not on the job, she enjoys a variety of sports and reading, and has made it a habit to meditate every morning if she has the time. She also has no problem with fighting dirty when it comes to protecting someone important to her, up to and including using the toxin her species can secrete from their skin.
Equipment: An armored symbiosuit with standard protector caste modifications, a wrist-mounted communicator, two semi-organic protector caste pistols with symbiotic magazines (and a number of nutrient bars to keep them fed), plus a segmented battlestaff with retractable thrusting points (think a cross between a three-section staff and an ahlspiess) can also emit a bright light at the touch of a button to stun attackers.
Faith: Used to be agnostic, but has recently converted to Aye pẹlu idi a few years ago.
Anything else: She may harbor feelings for Súre herself, but has yet to admit it to herself or him, partially because she fears it would compromise her ability to protect him (even though the opposite could be true as well) and that doing so would leave them in a vulnerable position.
