Story

DETAILED STORY
The lands of Louisiana and Mississippi are not a kind place. While the entirety of postwar United States is undoubtedly cruel and violent, the lands commonly known as the Bayou Wastelands are well known all across the south eastern United States for being best described as eerie. With two nations in competition for the Mississippi river, and the trade it would offer, most of life is punctuated by violence, as each side engages in the many scuffles and firefights that are always breaking out between soldiers firing at one another across the river. The near constant fear of invasion by the opposing force, and the eye for an eye tactics used has led the culture of the Bayou Wasteland to be that of a culture of honor.

One nation is the New Start Republic, a nation spreading outwards from the ruins of Lafayette. A small alliance of family's was what helped to create the nation, and now their capital is famous for its hospitable people and upswing in gentrification. Commanded by a committee of the 12 most important family's in the town, presided over by Sally Jean Angel, the matriarch of the Angel family, the oldest and most well respected family in the nation. However, while the nation likes to hold up a facade of the gentry culture of pre war south, it is widely known that they did not gain their power through civilized means. Much of the power was built by an alliance of moonshiners and jet cooks, who banded together to protect themselves from the raiders and rivals they had made in the world. The city's they controlled quickly became cushy and posh, but the country did not, continuing in its sketchy dealings. While the rich family's of the city's like to pretend they had nothing to do with the drug addled beginning of their nation, it has nonetheless made the leaders shrewd and cunning in conflict, making the New Start Republic a formidable enemy.

Soon the economy that the New Start Republic had built on moonshine and drugs brought them to the most obvious choice to distribute their exports to a wide variety of people, the Mississippi River. This brought them into contact with another nation, the Jackson Confederacy. The Confederacy had been built by farmers, a people who believed highly in the ideals of hard work. The begging of the Confederacy was the defeat of a large raider army that had moved into the region from Alabama, and were terrorizing the local farmers. Soon the biggest land barons, mostly in control of large cotton farms, brought their mercenary army's together to fight the threat, which culminated in the Battle Of Jackson, and led to the creation of the Jackson Confederacy. While most of the major Land Barons of the land are relatively free, they all swear fealty to Jackson, and commit their troops whenever the nation is under threat.

The hard working and conservative farming culture of the Jackson Confederacy contrasted sharply with the tricky and patchy belief systems and history of the New Start Republic. The moonshiners and the cotton farmers soon began to come into conflict over who could use the Mississippi River for their trading, and blood feuds began to form. Soon the two nations had to move their respective army's to the River to pacify the feuding family's. Both nations wanted to use the River as well though, and despite treaty's being made to make the river accessible by both nations, taunting between the two military's began to turn into brawls, and eventually firefights, with neither government doing anything to stop it, hoping that the other will give up on the river and leave.

The tales of the insanity and anarchy that permeates the Bayou Wasteland has also been heard of to the north, on the Great Plains. These story's of cold war and fear have prompted the Brotherhood Of Steel to act, moving soldiers into the region in an effort to try and pacify the anger that is so common throughout the area, but they have mostly been met with derision, being seen as interlopers on affairs that don't concern them. However, the Brotherhood still hopes to bring peace to the land. Little did they know though that along with them, their enemy's, the Enclave, were following behind.

Despite the hostility that run so deep between the people of the region, there is one thing that the people can agree on. Whatever is happening in New Orleans, or as it is called in the vernacular of the post war wold, Nor-Leans, is not good. Although it is not known by many outside of the city states population exactly what goes on there, due to the city being heavily flooded by the sea, there are tales of a culture of violence and debauchery, a people obsessed with pleasure, and led by strange cults of voodoo and extreme Catholicism. While the city had been a mainstay in many of the ghost story parents would tell their children at night, the frightening people there never would leave their flooded home, buying most of their supply's from the traders who would sail up from Mexico. But now, as the situation in the Bayou Wasteland becomes more and more tense, story have begun to circulate about Nor-Leanians being seen in the forests and swamps, spying on soldiers, or family hearing scratching in the night, only to find black hand prints on their doors.

Now, It is becoming summer again, and with the summer comes mutated insects, debilitating diseases, violent storms and radioactive rain. If the factions of the Bayou wasteland are going to act, they are going to have to act fast, or risk waiting out the summer, and possibly losing everything.

BASIC STORY
The players take on the role of the citizens of the Mississippi Louisiana border on the Mississippi river. This section of postwar United States, commonly known as the Bayou Wasteland, is engulfed in a cold war, as two nations on either side of the Mississippi River compete for control over the river and the trade it would offer. Meanwhile, from the Great Plains, the Brotherhood Of Steel has begun to encroach upon the swampland's, hoping to gain a new power base and convert the people there to their cause. At the same time to the south in the flooded ruins of New Orleans, a fourth faction has risen. A cult of fanatics, who believe the Great War was an attack from an angry alliance of Christian Saints and Voodoo Spirits, who wished to restart the world. As summer approaches and brings with it its long, hot days, insects, radioactive rains and diseases, it is time for the factions the Bayou Wasteland to act on their agendas, before summer hits.

Jimmy Barrow

Strengths: Jimmy and his brother Seth make are moonshiners in the Republic. Seth makes the moonshine, and Jimmy sells it on the docks. He is as a result a very good salesman and businessman. He is a natural people person, which helps him be so good at trading. Due to the blood feuds that permeates the trading on the Mississippi River, Jimmy is also has an old revolver that he carries with him, and has no qualms about using.
Weaknesses: Jimmy can be manipulative at times, using his good people skills to get away with things that most wouldn't. Although this can be an advantage at times, it also has the ability to alienate him from others, even if he wasn't trying to cause any harm. This this the potential to create strife between him and those around him.
Bio: Jimmy Barrow was the third and final child of Jethro Barrow and Mary Barrow, a pair of obsessive treasure hunters. Much of Jimmy's childhood was spent on boats, with his parents and two bothers, Seth and Eli, diving to try and find gold in the old riverboats that littered the swamps. When he was 14, Jimmy's father died after being eaten by one of the many giant gators that roamed the swamps. The family burned his body, and spread the ashes into the water of the swamps. Life continued as normal after that, until Jimmy was 17 and his other died. The same was done for her as was done for his father, she was burned and her ashes were spread in the swamp. With both parents dead, there was nothing really left holding the three brothers to their childhood home anymore, and they began to think about their next move. They all decide to move up north to the New Start Republic, where they got work in one of the homes of the many rich family's of Lafayette. Eli was content with the job, but Jimmy and Seth chose to leave after a year, and went east, to try and make a living trading on the Mississippi.

On the Border of the New Start Republic they met an old ghoul who distilled moonshine, and had been doing it since before the war. He took the tow boys in and taught them how to work the still, and how to sell what they made. After a few years, when Seth was 25 and Jimmy was 20, the old ghoul died. They didn't know what exactly happened to him, but he had gotten very sick before his death. The Barrow brothers gave him one of their customary funerals, they burned his body and spread his ashes around his still. The two brothers then took up the old ghoul business, and soon found themselves making good money selling what they made. Two years later and they are still doing the same, only now the Confederacy has begun to become even more of a mainstay in the political scheme of the Mississippi, and many cotton traders were competing with the Jet and Moonshine traders. After a while, many grudges were formed between the Barrow brothers and some of the Cotton farmers, and the tension between the Republic and the Confederacy was only making it worse.

Personality: Jimmy is friendly, and greatly enjoys people. There is a natural charm to him, and he never has trouble finding friends. However he is also a little shady, and is not uncomfortable doing somewhat amoral things to move himself up the ladder of success.
Likes: People, and food.
Dislikes: Haughtiness, is one of Jimmy's greatest dislikes in the world. He is not above starting fistfights because he feels that someone is talking down to him. Jimmy also greatly dislikes authority, which is a major factor in why he lives in the Republic, where laws are easily bent and things are overlooked often.

While you do not really need any knowledge outside of the basic fallout lore to take part in this RP, It is suggested that you read up on the general themes of the two genres that I listed above, as it will shed some light on the tone of this RP.

Weaknesses: Can't swim, not good with a pistol, and is a little quick to jump into action
Bio: Born in a small town north of Natchez, Alibama, Jefferson was raised as a cotton farmer. He worked hard on his farm, even when his father was killed by a raider when he was 14. He worked as hard as he could to provide for his mother and little siblings, being the oldes of four. As the years went by, his siblings grew old enough to help him on the farm, but after a long drought, the LaForge family was starting to run low on caps and supplies. At the age of 20, Jefferson took his rifle, and a set of leather armor he crafted the year before after repelling a raider attack, he left to go join the local Baron's mercenary army to help get caps for his family.

He left his little brother and sisters to take care of the farm and to care for his now ill mother, and had the Baron send his pay back to his family instead of giving the caps to Jefferson himself. The Baron's mercenary army had a pseudo rank system, and Jefferson soon rose to the rank of "Junior Lieutenant", putting him in command of a dozen other mercenaries as well as giving him a nice raise. He returned home on leave one day, to discover that his mother had died in her sleep the night before, and his sibling grieving.

Jefferson being the oldest child, inherited the farm, and made a deal with the Baron he worked for; If the Baron sent workers, and allowed Jefferson to keep his mercenaries at the farm, Jefferson would send 30% of the profits to the Baron. Meanwhile Jefferson's siblings went on to buy another farm to work on that was neighboring their old farm. After a few years of business, they bought a third farm, and then a fourth, meanwhile Jefferson himself got married and had children.

Jefferson decided to buy out of his Baron's old deal, and offered him a lump sum of 5,000 caps to keep his farm, the mercenaries, and the workers, which the Baron accepted. Jefferson, now found himself in a position of power, being the patriarch of his family, he decided to become a Baron himself. He offered 1,500 caps to each of his siblings for their farms, as well as the offer for them to continue to oversee the farms. He hired more mercenaries to defend his sibling's farms, and soon found himself in a position of political, economic, and military power.

His farm was soon attacked by raiders, and his wife was killed along with many of his workers, as well as most of his crops being raised. This prompted him to employ even more mercenaries, as well as fortify the small settlements that grew around his familie's farms. Soon after, he started commanding his mercenaries to hunt down and kill any raiders that they encountered, meanwhile his cotton farming empire growing. After months of squashing raiders, most of southwestern Alibama was safe, and the supplies captured from the raiders helped fuel the LaForge empire.

Now 35, Jefferson is one of the most profitable Barons on the Jackson Confederacy, and has built up settlements around his farms, which are most accurately described as farming settlements, that are guarded by mercenary armies. Due to his territory being close to the Mississippi River, his troops are often contributing to the firefights that nearly spark the growing war. He has started diverting funds to better equip his mercenaries and better train them as well, which is consuming a large sum of his profits. While Jefferson doesn't want to go to war with the New Start Republic, he has pledged his mercenary armies to Jackson's cause, weather it be right or wrong.

Weaknesses: Couldn't hack his way out of a paper back and couldn't pick his way into a music box
Bio: Conner was born and raised in the southern branch of the Enclave, his mother died in child birth but his father more than made up for it, raising him on his own while still giving Conner access to the best education the enclave had available while enrolling him into the enclaves more advanced combat training programs. While some would believe this made Conner into a "yes sir no sir" Enclave hardliner his father made sure he served the enclave because he wanted to, and took the risk of telling him everything, ever atrocity and crime the enclave had done and how it's grand plan wouldn't work. At first Conner distanced himself from his father believing his viewpoints just short of treason but as he dove into the history of the enclave reading every book, transcript every little bit of information he could gather he came to realize his father was right all accumulating with the utter destruction of the enclave in the capital wasteland set in stone Conner's view of the enclave, it needed to evolve or die.
His father now re-assigned to one of the enclave bases in the Midwest Conner has taken up the mantle of Liberalizing the enclave in the south, while this has caused friction with him among the more conservative leadership his sheer effectiveness as a soldier and diplomat make him an invaluable asset as his most recent task is traveling down the Mississippi working in both the Confederacy and Republic not just to garner support but also to turn them against the Brotherhood of steel.

Bio: Eirwyn Hewitt was born in Cardiff, Wales in 2054. His family moved to Lafayatte after his father got a job working for RobCo's Research and Development department. He was six years old when he started school in the States, and quickly lost most of his Welsh accent (although a little seems to come back every once in a while). Like Eirwyn, his mother, father and older sister Gwen soon assimilated into American middle class life. He developed a strong pyromania, and loved to play with fireworks in the backyard. Years passed by, with Eirwyn not having many friends at school, until he went off to college at LSU.

While studying physics at college (which he loathed), he spent a lot of time experimenting with homemade fireworks and explosives. Also, he confirmed his suspicions about his sexuality after finding other closeted gay students. The secret relationship he had with one of these students went on for a few years, until he was outed by a roommate and reported to the administration. He narrowly avoided government agents searching his room for "communist propaganda", after the administration called the police. The search quickly ended after the agents realized the administration was just paranoid, and Eirwyn stayed at home for all of summer and well into the fall.

In late October, after he had just gotten a job back home and was beginning to settle back into life with his family, his father received a letter from the school administration. Eirwyn found out about this after his father left a note on his bed, saying he had to be out of the house before his parents got home from work, and that his father never wanted to see him again, along with other ranting and incoherent rambling about how immoral he was. Eirwyn panicked, and ran into the basement, depressed.

His father never made it home. The bombs fell while Eirwyn was in that basement, and radiation seeped in through the walls, turning him into a ghoul.

He emerged from the rubble shocked, but scavenged what he could from the remnants of Lafayette, wandering alone until deciding to leave the city. The first human being he saw on the road called out "Red", referring to his skin color, which is how he got the nickname. Since then, Red has spent years wandering around the Louisiana wasteland, committing petty crimes and selling explosives to make money. Currently, he's on the way back to Lafayette for the first time since 2078, looking to sell some electronic scraps he stole from a shop in New Iberia.

Bio: Coah's mother was a full-blooded Choctaw native from Louisiana. His father was a white man from Nor-leans. Coah does not have many memories of his father. The ones he does have are unpleasant. The man was an alcoholic and spent most of his time gambling, whoring, and drinking. Coah's father was killed in a dispute over a poker game when the boy was a toddler.

Coah's mother was a kind woman, wise but for her choices in men. While his father was away, Coah and his mother spent much of their time in the woods and swamps. Coah learned to use a bow there, how to track an animal through swamp or solid soil, and how to set traps for smaller prey. His mother taught him much about how nature used to be, how even as twisted as it had become, it was still the domain of man. Coah never forgot this, and feels more at home in the swamps than he does when he is selling his catch in town.

RP Sample:
Coah crouched naked between two thick branches of a cypress tree. He was naked save for a simple cloth that protected his nethers. His entire body was painted to match the muggy, mossy environment he was so used to, the place he called his home.

Coah's eyes searched for the source of the noise. His head never moved. For him to remain perfectly concealed, he must remain perfectly still. His mother had taught him that. The sound of laughter becomes audible, and the source of the disturbance comes partially into view fifty or so yards away.

A group of men.

It's not the prey he'd been tracking. This was a group of men, come singing through the bayou without a care in the world. Whatever he had been tracking was probably long gone now. Judging by their singing, the men were drunk. Moonshiners, most like. Coah watched them approach. They were going to pass right by him.

There were three. An older man, not elderly. He still had a few years of healthy life within him. Two younger, probably his sons. Past adolescence, early twenties. Judging by their singing, they were drunk. The two younger men were toting sacks of what was probably corn for their mash and had rifles slung about their backs. The elder carried a pistol, and a small crate upon his shoulder. On their return from market, Coah guessed.

Coah, from time to time, liked to play tricks on the white man. Not often did he leave a man dead for their earthly possesions, but sometimes... things got out of hand. Coah descended on the group as they sang their song.

Strengths: As someone who grew up hunting and is currently in service with the military, Drew knows his way with most firearms he could get his hands on. As an officer, he knows how to act in certain situtations and is respected by his insubordinates.
Weaknesses: After a hand injury during a service, his aim is a little shakey (meaning that he'll miss half of the time) and he given up on hand to hand combat. He's also terrible at covert operations.
Bio: Andrew Brenner was born in Gulfport to a family of five. As the youngest, Drew had two older siblings (Robert and Janet) who do the things you expect most siblings to do. His family's was quite well off for such a large number as the patriarch of the family, Richard Brenner, was a successful and honest businessman who runs an inn called Eat and Sleep, known for its deep fried croc legs (cut from the freshly caught crocodiles in the Bayou Wasteland) and soft beds. Thanks to the family business, the Brenners were able to afford certain luxuries in the Wasteland, providing the children with education to live off the attitude of the Confederacy with success through merits. While his older siblings found interest in their respective fields (his sister staying behind to help with the inn and his brother opening a caravan company with his friends), Andrew found his calling to the military, applying to the MagCoCos, a prestigious officer academy in Jackson. After a grueling 4 years, Brenner passed his miitary exams and enlisted in the Confederate military as an officer.

His service in the Confederate military first had him deployed to gendarmerie duty in local settlements and towns, commanding a small garrison to provide law and order to the community. There, he was nicknamed "No Nonsense Brenner" due to his calm and collected manners in breaking up bar fights without needing to shoot anyone (of course, that may also to do with no one willing to challenge a guy pointing an automatic rifle that spews .308 cal bullets at them). His service was mostly the same old patrol and fighting off raiders except when he married a shopkeeper and suffered a hand injury at the hands (no pun intended) of a knife weilding raider that put him in the hospital for a few days. After over a year of defending settlements from raiders (and having to settle trivial local disputes), Brenner, like other soldiers of the Confederate military, was deployed to the New Start-Jackson border to bolster Confederate claims over the Mississippi River. As he firmly believes that the Republic and the Confederacy are getting into a pissing contest over the river, he accepted the appearance of the Brotherhood of Steel, believing that an independent third party could settle trivial disputes between the two factions. When the Enclave came, he was a little less trusting, hearing about their adventures in the Capitol from northern merchants.
