Introduction

Image

Tankery, the art of armoured warfare.

Many aces had honed their craft in this prestigious and unusual martial art, and generations of young women had earned their stripes in the field of combat, honed in the spirit of chivalry and duel. But not all see it as mere recreation, not the least in the treaded grounds of Europe. Here, tankery is not a sport. It is war itself.

As the nations that spawned many of tankery's mightiest steel giants, Europe's academies had long pitted their skills in mobile warfare against each other, many of whom pay homage to the old war heroes who had built on their craft. Many a times, bitter rivalries are brought back to the fore between old enemies as the fields become stomping grounds for their nations' old warhorses. But among the great empires of the Second World War, new blood is taking the fore to challenge the old order. One, in the broken remnants of the Soviet Union, rises to face the European powerhouses for the coveted title of Euro-Tankery (European Tankery) Champion.

Too bad you're not in St. Elisabeth.

Welcome to Rauschen, Prussia (real life Svetlogorsk, Russia), population: 71,000. A popular spa town on the Sambian coast since the time of the German emperors, the Prussian economic miracle after the fall of the USSR had seen its revival as a tourist haven. To add, it plays host to the country's newest academy ship, Rauschen Girls High School. Based on a derelict Moscva-class helicopter carrier, the academy doubles as a cruise ship and floating resort, a fitting tourist trap for weary, moderately rich travellers seeking a continental cruise across Europe in style. But some are aiming higher, discontent with the mundane life of studies and cruise. As sensha-do grips the continent, aspiring crews lobby the school for a new tankery club. But can you convince the skeptical adults of your mettle, when up against the best of Europe right in your home ground?

The floor is yours. Panzer Vor!

Rauschen Girls High School - Players' school

Image

Home Port: Rauschen, Rauschensky Raion, Republic of Prussia (real life Svetlogorsk, Svetlogorsky Raion, Russia)
Academy Ship: Moscva-class helicopter carrier
Armoury: Mixed
Specialization: None

Bio:A pretty average school set in the seaside town of Rauschen, Rauschen Girls' High's recently acquired academy ship had been the talk of the town for weeks. Gifted with an old Moscva-class helicopter carrier by a cruise ship magnate, the school, true to its origins, doubles as a floating cruise vessel for weary travellers, plying the ports of Europe's greatest cities all year round. Its students, as part of their internship, serve their future trade in tourism with the hotels, outlets and spas serving on the academy ship, much to their own dismay and to the glee of its eccentric captain. Still, life is not that bad, and while the novelty of living in a tourist trap can wear very quickly, high school life can still offer its own share of joys. All that is missing is a bit of mobile iron. The hard steel kind...

However, asking for a tankery club is easier said than done. With expenses expected to skyrocket to maintain the tanks, the adults seemed adamant not to waste their tax money on your kind. That is where you prove them wrong, and that meant beating Europe's best, starting with the best, right next door...

St. Elisabeth von Thüringen Catholic Girls Academy

Image

Home Port: Kyonigsberg/Königsberg, Capital Area, Republic of Prussia (real life Kaliningrad, Russia)
Academy Ship: Graf Zeppelin aircraft carrier
Armoury: Mostly German, though a number of tanks of non-German origin have turned up as 'captured' vehicles.
Specialization: None

Bio:A Roman Catholic girls' school situated in the heart and capital of Prussia, St. Elisabeth's tankery team exuded much of the lost traditions of the Teutonic Knights and the Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS panzer crews. Openly derided by Eastern European tankery girls as 'knockoff Germans' and 'Osttruppen', their track record, to their shock and dismay, proved unstoppable. Having recently subjecting the girls from Sevastopol's Maxim Gorky Naval Academy to a one-sided annihilation and edged out fellow Prussian school Vernost Stolypinskaya in the semi-finals, St. Elisabeth went on to defeat Aberdeen's El Alamein Girls School to win the European championship. The shock victory, along with the consistent embarrassment of its rival and fromer top team in Pillau, Vernost, puts the rapidly rising 'knights' at the top of European sensha-do. But fighting them would not be easy, not the least with their championship-winning commander at the helm, and an intimidating array of tanks at their disposal.

Vernost Stolypinsky Girls High School

Image

Home Port: Pillau, Pillausky Raion, Republic of Prussia (real life Baltiysk, Baltiysky Raion, Russia)
Academy Ship: Kiev-class aircraft carrier
Armoury: Soviet
Specialization: None

Bio:Once a military school run for daughters of Soviet naval personnel at Baltiysk Naval Base, Vernost is, true to its name, rooted in Soviet tankery tradition and engineering. Infamous for its brute force tactics and intense rivalry with the German-themed St. Elisabeth, the former top tankery school in Prussia had had years of experience and history on their backs, dating back to the founding of the West Baltic SSR in 1959 (precursor to modern Prussia). As such, the crushing defeat at the hands of St. Elisabeth in the latter's post-Cold War emergence proved a painful wakeup call, and Vernost had been forced to play catch-up since. They will not make that mistake twice, not the least to another 'separatist' upstart.

Perhaps more bizarre than sensha-do itself, Prussia is, to put in bluntly, an aberration. Created as the military-administered oblast of Kaliningrad, formerly East Prussia, the Soviet Union attempted to create a model city upon the ruins of the old German stronghold. Slavs from the Soviet Union were initially settled in the oblast. But one man's vision, one which encompassed a diverse union of many as opposed to an assimilationist nation-state, transformed the landscape of the oblast to this very day.

Image

Together with the Committee for the Resettlement and Demilitarization of Kaliningrad Oblast, Captain Yevgeny Mikhailovich Stolypin and his fellow cadres tried, not without success, to create the 'international' city, bringing in people from throughout the Eastern Bloc and beyond to prove beyond doubt that racial harmony is not only possible, but needed to pull the steadily decrepit state country away from its Tsarist-style Russification policies. However, performance of the feat proved, as many feared, heavyhanded. To achieve the quotas required to force the Russian population to a more equitable proportion with each year, many actively forged identities as Ukrainian, Poles and other Slavic groups. Warsaw Pact members of the committee, all of whom owe allegiances to notorious, pro-Soviet secret police like the Stasi, took the opportunity to exile thousands of dissidents and attempted defectors from their home countries. For one man, it was a chance at artificial social engineering at a scale unimaginable in the modern world. For others, the resettlement plan was an opportunity to right the wrongs of Stalinist deportations, and even undermine the Soviet Union from within. In the end, his project misused as a massive gulag, laboratory and a resistance stronghold, Yevgeny's project ultimately collapsed under the hapless idealist. Despite winning for the oblast the status of statehood, the internationalization project was swiftly shut down, and the short-lived chairman of the West Baltic SSR was sidelined for a more pliable puppet to Moscow, his legacy marred by controversy over his deviance from official Soviet doctrine.

Image

But the damage, so to speak, had already been done. Amassing populations of disenfranchised minorities from the subject states of the USSR and the Eastern Bloc into a single republic, a wave of anti-Soviet feeling was unleashed in the twilight of Soviet rule. Under perestroika, Prussian intellectual history was once again uncovered and revisited, and interest in reviving the lost kingdom as their own homeland surged. With the advent of the pro-independence New Prussia (Russian: Novaya Prussiya) party under Henrik Abraham Gram, the local Communist party branch was squarely defeated in the first free elections of the West Baltic in 1989. Two years later, during the August Coup, Gram, as head of government, obtained by referendum the mandate to declare independence, becoming the fourth Baltic state to join the ranks of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Since, the unique, multiethnic landscape has remained both a melting point of cultures as well as a flashpoint for civil conflict. The first years of West Baltic-Prussia's independence was rocked by racial and religious violence spurred by the Nagorno-Karabakh War, riots spurred by irredentists supporting Russian, Polish or Lithuanian annexation and tensions with the remaining Soviet garrison in the country. But twenty five years on, Prussia (as its name had changed since 1995) has seen its GDP skyrocketed, lifting thousands out of poverty as the multiethnic fabric of the nation became an integral part of national identity. Corruption, a virulent problem throughout Eastern Europe, had been weeded out by its police, and its firms, many of which are geared towards defence, had taken great strides in the field of technology and industry.

However, the promised freedom that its founding fathers had proclaimed for the people had been weaned off bit by bit in the name of progress and prosperity. Religious and racial hate speech is banned, proselyting is prohibited and its all-powerful military and police forces keep a close eye on seditious content, with pro-Russian irredentism as a prime target. Regardless, Prussia had changed much in the days of the Soviet Union, and its membership to the European Union and North Atlantic Treaty Organization continues to bind it to the principles of free democracy. Whatever the faults, millions still call Prussia home, and many more flood its borders seeking the fabled home promised by Gram and his fellows on that faithful August day. 'A home for everyone', Prussia's doors would remain open for any who believe in it.

Timeline
  • 1945 - East Prussia is annexed by the Soviet Union, becoming Kaliningrad Military Oblast
  • 1956 - Internationalization project begins. Under the Committee for the Resettlement and Demilitarization of Kaliningrad Oblast, thousands, including Stalinist-era deportees from Siberia, were resettled in Kaliningrad Miltary Oblast.
  • 1959 - Kaliningrad Military Oblast becomes the West Baltic SSR, with Stolypin as its first Chairman of the Republic.
  • 1963 - Internationalization project is shut down under orders from the Kremlin. Stolypin is arrested on various, circumstantial charges, and sent to Siberia. Valeriy Petrovich Tonchev, a fellow member of the committee of Bulgarian Lipovan descent, becomes the second (and last) chairman of the SSR.
  • 1989
    • The pro-independence Novaya Prussia party wins the West Baltic legislative elections against the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. Henrik Abraham Gram becomes Chairman of the West Baltic Supreme Soviet
    • First racial riots in its history, the Armenian-Azeri riots. Anger over the Sumgait pogroms and the Nagorno-Karabakh War spilled into the West Baltic, prompting riots between Azeri and Armenian populations. Due to the dissolution of ethnic enclaves under 'Internationalization' and the distribution of ethnic groups, many Muslims and Christians of other ethnic groups were caught in the crossfire.
  • 1991
    • Soviet referendum for reformation as the Union of Sovereign Republic faltered in the West Baltic due to calls for a boycott by Gram and New Prussia.
    • The independence referendum, conducted during the August Coup, garnered 98% of the vote in favour (out of 64% of voters who turned up) allowing the West Baltic to secede. Gram becomes the first Prime Minister, and the Supreme Soviet is reformed as the Prussian Seym
  • 1995 - West Baltic-Prussia successfully negotiates with Poland and Lithuania for the use of the name 'Prussia' in all official state-to-state interactions, via the signing of a treaty affirming the renunciation of all claims to Klaipeda and Warmia-Masuria.
  • 1996
    • The opposition Fatherland Front party, a splinter of New Prussia, wins the election, forming the new government under Viktor Valeriyovich Tonchev, son of the last chairman of the SSR, Valeriy Petrovich Tonchev.
    • Last Russian troops operating in Prussia depart. Most have left since 1994 and a skeleton crew operating the Pillau/Baltiysk Naval Base was left behind as a forward refilling station until fully handed over in 1996.
  • 2000 - Prussia experiences exponential GDP growth, forming one quartet of the Baltic Tiger.
  • 2005 - The infamous 'buried robot', the House of Soviets, on the grounds of Königsberg castle is demolished. Plans to restore the castle are underway for a 2016 deadline, in time for the 25th anniversary of independence.
  • 2006 - New Prussia regains the majority in the Sejm in legislative elections.
  • 2008 - Prussia joins the European Union
  • 2009 - Prussia joins the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. Scores of protests break out within Prussia, both in support of and against the accession. Similar protests break out in major cities in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, condemning Prussia for its participation.
  • 2016 - Prussia celebrates 25 years of independence. Current time.

Biography:Orphaned at the age of 6 in a car accident, Nagisa has been living in her aunt who used to be in a Senshado team and that inspired her to join. She moved out of her Aunt's house at the age of 15 and resided in an apartment near Rauschen High school. She joined Senshado as her Aunt used to tell her of how fun the sport is and she wants to see herself. She is not very social and it creeps out most of her class mates as she would just sit still in every class as still as a statue. She also has a love of knives but simply can't cook. She does get good grades as she has unbroken attention. She is of Finnish decent and occasionally speaks in Finnish but has a fluent Japanese as well.

Hi, would it be okay if I used an ARL 44? Checking Wikipedia only a "wooden" prototype was constructed by wars end and the first real prototype was constructed only in March 1946. But I can do without, no problem.

Also, how many tanks are usually in a team? Could I just have one tank and combine it with another player's team?

Three issues:
  • This is not an NS-side RP. Therefore, all nationalities, including teams, must reflect real life. The only exception I will make is for Prussia, which is explained in the introduction. Not a huge issue if you simply swapped their nationalities to Japanese.
  • All player teams belong in Rauschen High School Sensha-do team.
  • One tank per team. If you want another tank, either make another team app or state that it's an alternate vehicle for the tank team.

I'll have to discuss about the ARL 44 more carefully, but most likely, it'll be no.

Also, one tank per team. Basically, each team is a tank crew, so to operate more than one tank in a match, you need more than one team app. I don't recommend it, though, since you'll be controlling a lot of characters. Might be too taxing for you.

I had a 2 year break, just started playing again actually. Now I have some fun tanks I really cbf to grind and just playing for fun (as I should have done).

Part One - Team Application

Name (Team): The Rat
Armoured Fighting Vehicle: Renault UE2 (with 6 pdr)
Crew Setup:
Erika Kaule (commander)
Jeanne Blindé (gunner)
Mariana von Staufer (driver)
Tank Description (Optional) A cross between a light tank and a tank destroyer, while originally meant as a supply vehicle, it has good mobility at the cost of having virtually no effective armor and an okay 57mm gun. But most interestingly it is absolutely tiny, making it difficult to hit and easy to camouflage (at the cost of crew comfort).

Part One - Team Application

Image

Name: Komodo Team
Armoured Fighting Vehicle: Indonesian Revolutionary Army Type 97 Shinhoto Chi-Ha
Crew Setup:
  • Adelia Nasution (Commander)
  • Hermione Johannes (Loader/Radio Operator)
  • Fatimah Toha (Driver)
  • Odetta Iskandar (Gunner)
Team Description: A team of Indonesia's best students who have lived or transferred to Europe in the name of studies, they met in pairs before arriving at the Prussian school, and have been good friends since day one. They all joined the strategy game club together, but also wanted to join tankery as soon as registrations were open. Despite being first given a rather under-gunned and badly suited vehicle for the European terrain, Komodo team quickly modified the vehicle to their standards, and have developed guerrilla tactics that mix both Indonesian and Yugoslavian traits.

Tank Description: A Shinhoto Chi-Ha that found its way into Indonesian hands, this vehicle fought alongside revolutionists. It has a painted Indonesian flag on the side of its turret and the word 'Merdeka' inscribed on the same side of the hull. Using a 47mm high-velocity gun, it has enough penetration to get to the sides of most vehicles that it faced in the Pacific. But this vehicle isn't exactly like how it originally is, having an engine upgrade of a Mitsubishi Type 100.
RP Sample: Hah, no

Part Two - Character Applications

Name: Adelia Nasution
Image

Age: 17
Role: Commander
Nationality: Indonesian
Ethnicity: Batak
Personality: Hard-yet-cool headed, she's not one to lose her focus once the plan is being unraveled, but capable of changing direction if things seem to be going astray. She shows no pride, and fights honorably until the end.
Biography: An ace at strategic gaming, Adelia was born to an average, but honest family in North Sumatera. After moving to Java, she displayed great interest in the Indonesian Tankery League, and was eventually given a scholarship to the Prussian resort school following excellent grades and a showcase of wit when operating her vehicle, which was at the time an M5A1 Stuart. When out of the tank, she shows great leadership in leading the strategy club through international competitions, eventually leading her to make a book on strategies she’s formed over the years (reference to General Nasution’s book, Fundamentals of Guerrilla Warfare).

Name: Hermione Johannes
Image

Age: 17
Role: Loader/Radio Operator
Nationality: Dutch
Ethnicity: Dutch Indo-European
Personality: Often overthinks a situation that it does her no good. However, when selected as acting commander, she's able to make good decisions under normal circumstances.
Biography: Komodo's genius loader and radio operator, Hermione is an aspiring doctor, and is capable of conducting first aid under the toughest of conditions. Due to her intellect and way with words, she is often chosen as second in command, despite her secondary roles. Born to a rich Dutch-Indo family in the Netherlands, she's a prodigy to Dr. Johannes, who sees her as an excellent vassal to continue the family business. This however means that he doesn't take her being in the tankery club very well, and often asks her if it's going to bother her studies. Thankfully, when In school, she’s a total book worm, and will take serious effort to peel off the pages (unless you offer to play games with her).

Name: Fatimah Toha
Image

Age: 17
Role: Driver
Nationality: Indonesian
Ethnicity: Sundanese
Personality: Reckless in battle, but a total neat freak outside of the combat zone
Biography: Sometimes described as the most 'explosive' member of the Komodo team, Fatimah was born a mechanical engineer. She was the one to install a new Mitsubishi Type 100 engine into the vehicle after finding the original engine busted after discovery. She will often make sure that the Chi-Ha is in perfect order before and after a battle, cleaning every nook and cranny so that it runs smoothly. She is one of the few students to transfer to the Prussian school directly from Indonesia, including her future commander.

Name: Odetta Iskandar
Image

Age: 17
Role: Gunner
Nationality: Indonesian
Ethnicity: Sundanese
Personality: Very good at managing time, she's usually calm, but can be easy to anger if certain things are discussed
Biography: A gunner capable of harnessing the accuracy of the Type 1 very well, Odetta lived half her life in her home country, and the other half in the Netherlands, where she first met Hermione. She's an above average student, and can speak both her mother tongue and Dutch fluently, with an ever growing ability to speak Prussian every week she studies at the school.

Will an AMX 50 be available, or an IS-3 ?
How to be legitimately recognised in NS? Be a proper Roleplayer.
In a community where knowledge should be used to uplift the teachable and be used as an interest instead of a necessity, the arrogant abuse of knowledge is interesting to watch.

IS-3 is a go. AMX 50, ehm... don't think so. I'm not sure of the specific criteria myself, but generally, it's just any vehicle that shows up as a prototype or as a design before the end of the war. Soni, what'd you think?

Part One - Team Application

Name (Team): Schrodinger's Cat
Armoured Fighting Vehicle: L3/33
Crew Setup:
Commander/Gunner: "Schrodinger"
Driver: Ayako

Part Two - Character Applications

Name: Frederica "Schrodinger" Hegel
Age (16-20): 17
Role (Delete where appropriate): Commander, Gunner
Appearance/Pic:
Image

Nationality: Prussian
Ethnicity: German
Personality: outside the tankery field, Frederica is normally lethargic and unmotivated, relying on her best friend Ayako to wake her up in the morning. When she's around tanks however, her disposition changes. She becomes energetic, heavily excitable, and prone to outbursts. In either state, she can become extraordinarily violent if referred to by her nickname.
Biography: born in Prussia, Frederica's nickname stems from an early childhood experience where she reputedly tried to do the "Schrodinger's cat" experiment. Needless to say, the cat didn't exactly take to the idea of being crammed in a box, and all Frederica had to show for her experiment was a fresh scar on her face. She was a young math prodigy, excelling at the subject, but lacking the motivation to put it to use for anything other than tanks. Frederica was obsessed with tanks after seeing one when she was nine, and prided herself on being able to memorize the specifics of the vehicle. Her room became adorned with plastic tank figures, and it was the first time that her parents ever saw her excited about a subject. When she entered high school, and the tankery club became available to her, she immediately leapt to accept it, dragging her long time suffering friend Ayako Shimada.

Name: Ayako Shimada
Age (16-20): 17
Role (Delete where appropriate): Driver
Appearance/Pic:
Image

Nationality: Prussian
Ethnicity: Half-Japanese, Half-German
Personality: while not blindly loyal, Ayako is deeply devoted to her friend Frederica, having been best friends since childhood. This causes her to do things she normally won't do (join a tankery club at her friend's urging) if it means being able to be around her solitary friend. She is normally the more active one of the two, constantly getting Frederica up in the morning and making sure she brushes her teeth at night. But in tankery, the roles are reversed. Frederica becomes active and cheerful, while Ayako becomes lethargic and disinterested.
Biography: for most of her life, Ayako has been annoyed with being mistaken for a member of the famous Shimada tankery clan, fervently insisting that there is no relation. She has always wanted to thrive on her own merit, and became irritated with how people idolized her until she corrected the misconception. This instilled in Ayako a dislike for tankery and decision not to participate in it to avoid further misconception.

Her only real friend was always Frederica, the math prodigy from her class, who she idolized, believing that her friend would one day become someone great if given enough prodding. The next few years of their childhood was her waking Frederica up, making sure she got to school, and then making sure she got home and brushed her teeth before bed. She ignored her friend's fascination for tankery and tried her best to avoid getting involved. For the most part, she managed, finding a convenient excuse every time Frederica tried to get her to go with her to a tankery match. But when her friend begged her to join the tankery club, Ayako realized she had no choice. It was either that or break her friend's heart, the latter the last thing she wanted to do. Ayako begrudgingly agreed.

Thought about going with the Carden Lloyd, but remembered I know a lot more about it's successive design (the L3) than it, so might as well go with what I know. Plus there are some interesting gun choices.

How about a Vickers A1E1 Independent? Multi-turreted tanks are best tanks.

on a more serious note, what sort of a battle would we be doing? would it be like what was seen in the movie or in the anime? because if it's like the movie, then I'm probably going to go for an artillery piece of some sort, maybe a T93 Gun Motor Carriage (mounting an 8-inch gun M1).

The Vickers A1E1 is definitely allowed, but even more likely to be roasted by later models. :V

Also, I'm going for the kind seen in the show and movie, yeah.

Erm, just saying, the movie was slightly different in terms of battle structure. Firstly, the movie battle had artillery allowed, larger teams of 30 on each side, and it was an elimination match, while the show had 20 tanks maximum, no artillery and a flag tank to destroy.

Also, A1E1 was meant as a joke, I love the idea of multi-turreted tanks, but recognize that they are impractical as all hell.
