So it seems that eleven states are suing the federal government over directives calling for transgender students to be allowed to use the bathroom that matches their identity. Apparently the whole thing is “a massive social experiment” running roughshod over “common-sense policies” (let's ignore the fact that's a pretty big case of appeal to tradition, but yeah).

Personally, I think this is just getting stupid. I mean, why are people seriously this desperate to hold onto the ability to discriminate against others?

Well how else are they meant to get elected? Every day that passes is a day that legal gay marriage didn't cause the sky to fall on the US, so they can't use that any more. Obamacare hasn't turned the US into the USSR. Trump has dibs on immigration fearmongering.

But I guess they can't fight the constitution. Gay rights is a gray area, mostly because the constitution makes no mention of it because anyone not straight was killed like witches back in those days. But the Supreme Court kinda rules in favor of the LGBT community as does the executive branch so there's really not much we can do.

I have no stance on the issue. I came here to learn about the varying perspectives so that I might form one. However, there were none. An argument is required for a counter argument to be presented, and varying ways of saying "lol republicans" or whatnot are not arguments.

I don't think we need to really create a comprehensive policy on bathroom etiquette; however, I also think the federal directive is just as silly. It just seems to be a petty argument over whether bathroom use should be based on biological sex or psychological gender.

Can I point out that this is due to the fact that the policy was forced down by executive fiat and that's why the states are suing?
