Misspelled word in Issue No. 503

Postby The Empyreus » Tue May 24, 2016 10:01 pm

In option 4 for the issue it states:
"Why not make yourself a little spending money?" suggests wealthy industrialist @@RANDOM NAME@@ as he adjusts his toupee. "You should have a yuuuuuge statue of yourself in front of the door. @@DEMONYM@@ insert @@CURRENCY@@ into the statue, and you can judge their worthiness based on how much they pay their respects."

Edited out the names so i dont want people to get confused.

It's a parody of Trump. It's spelled correctly. For future reference, use this: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=158858 :)

IIRC it parodies the New Yorker accent in general. I do believe Sanders also pronounces it like that.

Wait, how else would someone pronounce "huge"? "H" is pronounced as "Y" in that word (and a number of others, such as "hue", "humid", and "human") in English, that's just how it works. Even in accents that do pronounce "HY" as slightly different from plain "Y", the difference is quite miniscule.

Out here in the Western US, the H is quite pronounced.

As it is in the UK (and AFAIK the rest of the English-speaking world).

Thus, I believe we've made a strong case that huge (and other words with the 'hu' sound)being said as "Yuge" is an East Coast affection ;)
