I'm going to play devil's advocate and ask a legitimate question; how is this the fault of the tar sands? I could be wrong but I thought the dry regions of Alberta were already prone to wildfire.

Well, bitumen extraction is certainly a contributor to climate change. I'm unsure what you're confused about.
