It's 500 BC. Europe is a very different place. Rome has failed to rise, and the Celts and Greeks are cementing their power across Europe, North Africa and Asia Minor. There is no dominant culture, there is no dominant states, there is just war. Swords clash daily across the continent, and peace looks like it will never come. As larger states begin to rise, land is contested more than ever, in a continent embroiled and stuck in a conflict that will define the era. Will one Empire come out on top? Or will they all perish like many others in history have?

Meeting hall, Kalos Azra’s palace, Chersonesus

Kalos Azra took a sip of the delicious red wine from his bronze cup as he looked at all the men sitting around the furnished, long, oval table. It was the monthly meeting of the Salnian League, where each city state sends its ruler or a representative to Chersonesus to discuss and report events that took place from within the city state. It was an effective way to keep in touch with all the members of the League, and with external, and internal, tensions rising up, it would be incredibly important in keeping peace. Azra studied the group of men with a sharp eye. Aesop Damarion was sat quietly on the other side of the table. The ruler of Tiras and Pitius were not present. Saris Leotychidas was not present either. The latter was not surprising to Azra, nor was it to anyone else in the league. Saris disliked the idea of the regular meetings, mainly because he thought it was a big waste of time. Azra shoved the thought aside, and cleared his throat. The table became silent.

“Gentlemen, we have been here for nearly two days, so let’s wrap it up shall we?” He said in a calm, clear voice. Raxad, the ruler of Tanais, rose up slowly.

“Tanais was attacked 6 days ago by a large army of Scythians. They attacked in the night and caused chaos across the region. The small towns just outside our influence was destroyed, razed to the ground. They stood no chance. We managed to regain control overnight and fight off the raiders, but the damage had been done.We require military assistance to protect Tanais from future attacks while we sort out and repair the city.” Raxad said. His tone was stern and monotone, but Azra could hear the sense of despair in his voice. It was now Azra’s turn to stand up.

“Very well, who would like to take on the task of defending Tanais from the Scythians while they rebuild?” Azra said. After a quick hushed discussion among the men, three men stood up.

“Decision has been made. The city states of Gorgippia, Hermonassa and Theodosia will send men and supplies to Tanais. All in favour?” Azra said. All hands in the room raised. Azra remained stood up.

“Hiaklon, any word from the Asia minor or Bulgarian colonies? I wish to know where their allegiance lies; To their metropolis, or to us.” Azra asked. Hiaklon, Nikonion’s naval commander, quickly got on his feet. Nikonion had the strongest navy in the League, containing atleast 4 dozen state-of-the-art triremes. Many other city states had Biremes, which were not nearly as strong, or only had up to a dozen triremes. Therefore, Nikonion had the special task of protecting the League’s waters from foreign navies, with ships from other cities occasionally helping to reinforce authority in the seas. Only Fanagoria’s influence over other cities’ fleets and Dacia’s status as an emerging power rivalled and matched Nikonion’s dominance over the Black Sea.

“The colonies in Bulgaria and Romania have not responded to our messengers, so we can take it that they are hostile towards us. However, Athenai,Sinope and Heraklia in Asia Minor are heavily considering joining the League, but no further word has been given. The rest have either made it clear that they are loyal to their metropolis.” Hiaklon said. Azra nodded, and sat back down.

“This meeting is now over, may the gods be with you all.”
