The Taliban's Strong in Afghanistan Again

Postby Utilitarian Garibaldi » Mon Apr 25, 2016 7:19 pm

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/12/world/asia/afghanistan-taliban-united-nations.html?_r=0
KABUL, Afghanistan — The Taliban insurgency has spread through more of Afghanistan than at any point since 2001, according to data compiled by the United Nations as well as interviews with numerous local officials in areas under threat.

In addition, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan over the past two weeks has evacuated four of its 13 provincial offices around the country — the most it has ever done for security reasons — according to local officials in the affected areas.

The data, compiled in early September — even before the latest surge in violence in northern Afghanistan — showed that United Nations security officials had already rated the threat level in about half of the country’s administrative districts as either “high” or “extreme,” more than at any time since the American invasion ousted the Taliban in 2001.

Thoughts?

The only person who can fix this mess is Bernie Sanders. Unlike all his opponents Bernie has had experience overseas working on a kibbutz (a form of zionist collective farm). And the outstanding foreign policy credential of not voting for invading Iraq. I only trust Bernie to bring the magical disengagement dust to Afghanistan

Thanks Obama. No literally thanks Obama.

In the case of pulling out, once again the Democrats wanted to leave long before the job was finished. It should be no wonder that this turned into a Vietnam.
If you start a war, you stay in until the dust settles and then you stay a bit longer till you're sure the enemy is dead. Pulling out long before you finish is no good for anyone.

I thought a neoconservative would support intervention, not oppose it. Guess I was wrong. How the fuck can Afghanistan's government be so divided? I know there's corruption but really these fucks need to get more active.

Honestly, we should have just employed a violent secular dictator from one of the smaller ethnic groups and armed him with the best weapons he could afford. It worked in Iraq, till we got tired of that guy.

Honestly, the only reason Afghanistan hasn't fallen is because the US made it. If the US doesn't kill of the Taliban for good, Afghanistan will fall.

Another reason why American imperialism has failed.
"A reigning party never censures itself, and the people have been tutored to vote under two senseless standards, gaudily painted over with the two words 'Federalist and Republican,' repeated, and repeated, without having any meaning, or conveying any information." - John Taylor

"What an impudent farce it is for the arrogant leader of a party to prate about equality, to call himself a democrat, the friend of that liberty which will never fall till ambitious men like himself make themselves, by arts always stale, yet always formidable, stronger than the laws." - Fisher Ames

War On Terror

Postby Poscait » Mon Apr 25, 2016 7:35 pm

Pulling out was stupid. None of it would have happened had terrorists not bombed 3 buildings. We had a lot of things going for us. Better guns, tanks, and tactics.

Obama said he would pull out in '11, but it never took place until '12. In my opinion, Obama is a terrorist himself. He wastes taxpayer dollars so that he can go watch a baseball game in Cuba. It's insane.

The military should get planes to bomb them, then have the Army follow up and kill any surviving terrorists. Extreme Islam is the new Nazism. History repeats itself. Stop them, the we're all done for.

Sincerely,
Poscait

I guess it only works if your enemy is a clear target and organized enough.

The interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan were trying to eliminate a disorganized group of people, and while it did work, it's like chopping heads off a Hydra. The more damage caused in the name of eliminating terror causes even more desperation and anguish, which appears to be a gateway to the fanaticism of the Taliban.

That's the thing though, the West is very much incapable of handling what is required to solve a disorganized, decentralized group of radicals. Namely harsh punishment for collaborators and enablers; which is why propping up dictators becomes necessary. We in the West have a distaste for hurting innocents; but to fight a group that hides among them, it becomes necessary.

I mean if it works, but there should be a different, slightly better way of solving the issue. Dictatorships are finicky as the head honcho in power may have their own agendas against whomever propped them up when demands aren't met.

It's still an imperfect system, and while it works, it certainly does not last for long nor does it end well in certain scenarios.

All that work for nothing because we pulled out too soon.

One of the few reasons there are to dislike Obama is his shitty foreign policy, and this would be Exhibit B. Exhibit A would be pulling out of Iraq too early.

Obama's foreign policy has been wholly awful. Exhibit C is him making fun of Mitt Romney about talking about containing Russian resurgence literally a year before Russia declared a part of Ukraine it's own.

All things are impermanent, and this secular dictator is no exception. I don't really care if they killed thousands, let's say they are competent in what they do. Now they're dead, assuming that they were president for life, the next person in line or propped up may be less competent and even more likely to cause errors and fuck up.

Stability under a dictatorship, westernized or not, is only guaranteed once in most cases. It's only prolonging the inevitable, I'd say.
