All I got out of this resolution is that there is another expansive bureaucracy being created to tackle a problem that really should be handled by each region on their own. It is about as necessary as the 2:00PM meeting to discuss how to send a proper Email, when it could been handled in an Email.

Once again, Deputy Ambassador Graves enters the assembly chamber, patiently observing the debate until a break in the discussion, at which point he steps up and reads a prepared statement.

"As acting delegate of The Versutian Federation, I have cast my vote in favor of the resolution "Pesticide Regulations." I find this resolution unobjectionable and, contrary to what several have said in this chamber, respectful of national sovereignty in handling the potentially negative fallout of the use of these chemicals. After all, if your use of pesticides begins to affect another nation, the aid you give them will help to protect their national interest, and shows respect for their borders. This is a sometimes underrated issue that is finally receiving the attention it should have. On behalf of my region, which has clearly indicated its support for this resolution, I proudly support this resolution. Thank you."

Actually, no. WASP already exists, we're just giving it a couple of extra duties.

Extra edits because I suck at spelling today, it looks like.

Ogenbond raises an eyebrow. "Ambassador, I encourage you to read this part of the transcript."

He takes a sheet of paper from one of his interns, underlines a particular section, and hands it to Bell.

I think you've misunderstood the resolution. It allows you to protect your crops as long as you make sure that you try to prevent the pesticides from polluting places they're not meant for. Surely it's in the interests of your farmers to not waste money on pesticides that do not protect their crops?

Ogenbond laughs hysterically. "Ambassador, please, read this resolution again. The requirements are so trivial and reasonable that any farmer with half a brain and even less of a wallet would be following them already. This resolution protects your crops from contamination while still allowing for the use of pesticides to protect them from harmful organisms."

Ogenbond sighs and shakes his head. "As to us being 'big fatcat corporate countries', Wallenburg has no corporations to speak of, good or bad, and plenty of other member states work off of a mixed economy. Some are even avowedly socialist or communist. Calling us all corporatists is a complete rejection of reality."

My farmers should be able to kill all of the pests and rid themselves of the threat, rather than simply buying themselves more time and wasting money when they must buy more pesticides at the outrageous prices set by the companies.Besides how are my farmers supposed to control where the pesticides flow? They do not control the weather! This is just one more example of governments trying to butt in when they have no business or even idea of what they are doing. They simply wish for more control over the people and less freedom!

Why must they buy pesticides? If you don't want to allow pesticides, you can ban all the active ingredients from being used as pesticides in your nation. Also, if you're already using non-chemical ways of deterring pests, you're perfectly in compliance with the resolution already.

Besides how are my farmers supposed to control where the pesticides flow? They do not control the weather!

Clause 4 outlines a few things they can do, and the World Assembly Science Program will provide them further information for free, once this resolution comes into effect.

So your country is both anti-capitalist and anti-government? Interesting.

Ogenbond gives the ambassador a flat stare. "I think you are missing the point. This is not a discussion on Wallenburg's compliance with World Assembly resolutions."

How can they not use them fully? If they sprayed pesticide just anywhere, they'd be wasting most of it and thus having to "buy more pesticides at the outrageous prices set by the companies". But if you really dislike the WA pushing its nose in your nation's affairs, you can always take the Kennyite approach and use the committee gnomes for target practice, when they come to inspect things. ;)

OOC note: I invited Stariana to come back to reply to my replies to their comments. Thank you, Stariana, for bothering to come back here twice. :)

OOC EDIT: Pesticide Regulations was passed 12,239 votes to 2,169.
