The Modern Mojave
The year is 2285. Following the Third Battle of Hoover Dam and the massacre of Enclave Remnants at the hand of Sentinel Shepard, a short peace settled over the Mojave as peace talks started between the Brotherhood of Steel and the Free Vegas Army. Following the NCR's subsequent expulsion from the Mojave, the two factions formed a tight alliance, and together began working towards rebuilding the Mojave. The Brotherhood established a political headquarters in what used to be the Gomorrah, which was shut down due to a scandal, and established a "New Citadel" at Fortification Hill. Brotherhood forces would create strongholds at Black Mountain, the NCRCF which they renamed "Fort Hardin", and Helios 1, and Hidden Valley, while maintaining friendly influence over settlements such as Novac, Primm, and Goodsprings. The FVA nestled themselves primarily into the New Vegas area, using Camp McCarran as a military command center. The FVA created strongholds in Jacobstown, occupied Nellis Air Force Base, and maintained joint-control of the Hoover Dam with the Brotherhood.
However, the Daybreak Movement did not die with the Enclave Remnants at Hoover Dam. Led by Samuel Hughes, a new political organization rose in New Vegas, and gained massive popularity. The pro-independence Movement rose from nothingness in the two months following the Third Battle of Hoover Dam, and on the 17th of April, Sam Hughes would sign an agreement with FVA General Josh Hanson bringing forth an official government: the Free Republic of the Mojave. The FRoM's claimed influence over the entirety of the Mojave Wasteland, even the areas under Brotherhood occupational jurisdiction, so tensions climbed as they began requesting that the Brotherhood leave the Mojave. Sentinel Shepard ultimately refused to leave the Mojave to an "Enclave-infested" government, but the FRoM insisted, standing by their noble beliefs of independence. Sam Hughes, leader of the Free Republic, tried to compromise and ask that the Brotherhood give the FRoM control of facilities like Helios 1, but still, Shepard refused, and tensions have climbed ever since.
Now, the two major factions are at each other's throats. Following the Brotherhood's mobilization in cottonwood and negotiation disputes over HELIOS One, the threat of major armed conflict between the FVA and BoS is higher than ever. The FRoM has mobilized their forces in preparation, and the Brotherhood has done the same, though both factions still manage to keep joint-control of the Hoover Dam and political relations on the Strip. However, nobody knows how long it will be before the peace is shattered, and blood soaks the Mojave soil once more...
Because War, War Never Changes...
The night was cold in the Mojave, the sound of cicadas and cazadores rung throughout the landscape reminding every man and woman in the Mojave of the threats that loomed in the dark. Yet these nights were more peaceful ones than those of the past. The Legion was fractured, with successor states scrambling to gain as many followers as they can, with Lainus gone the last hope for a unified Legion to conquer the Mojave has seemed to have disappeared. The New California Republic has been humbled, and the people within it demand reforms forcing its leaders to focus their resources to the interior of the republic. In the south lies the Brotherhood of Steel, which controls several strongholds and seeks to destroy the opposition in the region and establish a second contingency of their eastern chapter. The majority of the Mojave is now run by a unified Republic led by elected leaders. After years of war the people of the Mojave have stood together. However, their road to full independence hasn't been completed, the Brotherhood controls several assets vital to the long term survival of it, the NCR holds on to their outpost in the far south, and raiders and legion remnants plague the Southern Mojave.
The Lucky 38,
New Vegas
A suited man stood in the highest floor of the tower and looked out over the lands below. He saw lights, a wall and beyond that the plains and hills that he grew up in. As a child he never imagined he'd be where he was, he raised a glass to his lips and sipped down a cup of fine whiskey. As a child he saw his whole family killed, he became one of the most powerless people in the wasteland, and yet now the times had certainly changed. "President Hughes, I have the town charter, now it's time for you sign and formally accept Goodsprings into the Republic. They've agreed to fully unify." Samuel smiled, still looking out the window and said "Progress is fine, isn't it John?" John Davenport, the Minister of Integration and Diplomat to the Brotherhood of Steel nodded and said "It certainly is... I forgot to mention, I spoke with Mr. Russell about your idea about making speeches to the nation using the national radio, and he said the Radio Commission is in full support of expanding their job. Since they are part of the cabinet and it won't require changing any legislation, the Revolutionary Council wont need to vote on that." Sam replied "Good. Tell me John, what is the situation with the Brotherhood at the moment?" John replied "It's the usual, they insist that they can't relinquish control over the solar plant to us because they lost men during that battle with the NCR." Sam replied "It's ridiculous, they aren't even the same chapter that lost men in that battle, and if they insist on us not demanding reparations for their Mojave Chapter's crimes against the people of the Mojave, then they can't claim that they lost men in that battle. In fact tell them what I told you." John replied "Will do."
