United States Strategic Command
Raven Rock Mountain Complex

Dear Operator X
With great pleasure, the USSTRATCOM welcomes you in Raven Rock Mountain Complex. We are deeply sorry that his entry has taken place in these circumstances so dramatic. We can understand his state of mind. . Surely you feel anxious, scared, maybe doubtful towards the government and its recent actions.
However, we want you to keep your coolness and remain loyal to your country. At this time, your family, your friends, your acquaintances, are just civilians unrelated to these matters. Your task is to monitor the evolution of the international situation, and be ready for any eventuality.
The Military Staff want to make sure that all the actions that it will undertake will be implemented in the light of careful prior analysis. Any order that will arrive to your position, will have been discussed for a long before being issued. Any order will be right.
We hope that your stay in Raven Rock is to your liking, and we expect your full cooperation.

General J. Paul Kehler

Welcome to Raven Rock Mountain Complex, soldier.
Your task is simple: to press the button that will start the first strike. You are not allowed to have second thoughts. The president has already opened the nuclear football, and if the situation degenerates, he will order the launch of warheads.
In the game you play as the pitching staff of Raven Rock Complex’s war room, a underground complex connected to 20 ballistic silos, equipped with MIRV warheads. There will be different roles, once filled the registrations will close.

ROLES

NORAD Commander
– Commander of the bunker. He receives the launch codes from the President, and after ensuring that they were sent by him, and that his will is exactly that, he proceeds to order the launch warheads on targets included in the codes.
NORAD Vice-commander – Military advisor to the head. He helps in deciphering the codes and make sure of their origin. Moreover, he can question the veracity of the messages. It has no decision-making power but only consultative.
USAF Officer – Commander of US air forces. Handles the bombs and the land-based missiles. He may order the deployment of air superiority fighter and strategic bombers.
USN Officer - Commander of naval forces. Handles the SSBN-based missiles, and bombs also. He can deploy aircraft carriers, cruisers and nuclear submarines.
Comms Operator – He deals with communication between the NORAD, the General Staff and the military ground, naval and air forces
Silos operator #1 – He holds the first launch key. He identifies the targets, enter the coordinates and activate the launch sequence.
Silos operator #2 - He holds the second launch key. He identifies the targets, enter the coordinates and activate the launch sequence.

APP
Code: Select all
Name:
Surname:
Age:
Born in:
Desired role:
Bio:
Attitude to war: (see below)

ATTITUDE TO WAR
What is the attitude to the war? It's the more incisive character trait in the story. It indicates what is your reaction to all the events where you will assist. It 'important to interpret this attitude, because a good interpretation gives fluidity to the game. There are only 4 types of attitudes.
Violent - You will not survive the nuclear conflict by giving candy bars to the enemy.
Indifferent - In the face of horror the best protection may seem to disconnect yourself from the pain, the feelings, even people. To press a launch button is not so different from pulling a trigger.
Fearful - You were lucky so far, but tomorrow? We're talking about a nuclear war, not a water balloon war. What will happen to me, to my family, to the world?
Guilty -There's more than enough reasons to feel guilty in a war.Because you killed somebody, because you survived or just because you were there. But what happens when you can start the extermination of the human race?

RULES
• No godmodding
• No insults
• This game is based more on human relations rathen than actions. The purpose of this game is to explore the psychology of the players: what wouldthey do in case of a nuclear attack?
• Some roles may receive secret messages from the OP. These messages can also be revealed to other players or not. It 's all at the discretion of the player.

This is a roleplay game. Quoting Wiki, an RPG is a game in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. Players take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative, either through literal acting or through a process of structured decision-making or character development. In Defcon players assume the role of those who - at the crucial moment - will start the launch sequence of some nuclear warheads and start World War III.
n practice you players you can talk with you, discuss the choices to make, and simulate the experience of being the perpetrators of a war.
I, as GM, will maintain the narrative flow. Once we will fill all vacant positions, we will start the IC.

Just a suggestion, your character app should be longer and ask details such as character traits, and character backstory,

TAG.

Expect an App soon. As somebody who usually writes pacifist styled characters, writing somebody in control of nukes should be fun.

Hey, do applicants have to be born in the US? They would of course be US citizens though, right?

No, they can born everywhere, but for narrative coherence it's better if the character has born in US or NATO country.

Name: Callum
Surname: Brady
Age: 26
Born in: Massachusetts.
Desired role: Comms Operator.
Bio: Callum was born to two Irish Immigrants; his mother was a lawyer and his father was ex-military. They moved to the states a few years earlier after Callum's mother was offered a partnership with a relative living in Massachusetts. They were reasonably well off and Callum had a good childhood, but when he was 13 his father was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He passed away a few months later, leaving just Callum and his mother. He did well in school, staying away from the typical party scene and preferring more nerdy stuff like video games and debate club. But, he was happy. He graduated with good grades, particularly in English, History and Computer Science. He went on to study English Lit and History in college, and when he graduated, he surprisingly went for a career in the military as a Comms Operator. A few more years, and he was one of the best in the US. The best, he would claim.
Attitude to war: Guilty. He hates violence.

Name: Andrew
Surname: McKinley
Age: 56
Born in: New York City, New York
Desired role: USAF Commander
Bio: Andrew McKinley was born in a given year (depends on what year the RP is set) in New York, the son of two well-off parents. Those parents paved every step of his life’s way, making sure he always had the finances to do as he pleased. He received proper schooling, got great grades along the way, and generally didn’t have to worry about shit. His views shaped accordingly. Living in a big city, he got used to human beings just being bystanders, like animatronic dolls to liven up the city. He also got a good view of America, being raised as a patriotic citizen with proper views of the system. These views eventually led him to apply for the air force, where he was trained as an officer. His questionable look at the life of people made him an excellent tactician and strategist, and he walked up the ranks of bomber command like a leaf in the wind. When he commanded the air forces in a given region, NATO forces had no need of fear. He was given nicknames like ‘Old Bulldozer’, ‘Paver Andrew’ and ‘Umbrella Andy’ for his somewhat unorthodox but highly effective strategy. While he didn’t care much for civilian casualties, he did have a talent for playing the media, so he was never ostracised. Eventually, he was placed as the USAF Commander for his capacities as a strategist and his adoration with both soldiers and the press. Now, he has landed himself in charge of the most destructive weapons on earth. Just another mission.
