welcomes you to
The stage is black, the crowd silent, nervous energy filling the grounds of the Presidential Palace. The announcer had just asked everyone to be quiet and the crowd, nearly 80,000 strong, had obliged. A video began to play across the screens on the stage, on monitors around the grounds and on the television screens of the world wide over.
.:: Vidi - Sing Together (WorldVision 45 Version) ::.
.:: Language(s): English ::.
To the tune of: Emmelie De Forest - Rainmaker
Vidi entered the stage to a dazzle of light, as the song began to play, lyrics began to show on monitors across the venue, encouraging fans to take the message of the song and 'sing together'. Vidi opened her mouth and began to sing the song she first performed in WorldVision 32.
Way-a way-o way-o way-a
Way-o way-o way-a
Way-o way-o way
Divided, that's how we die out
Division, that's what hates about
United, we sow the seed of love
United, we're stronger, no doubt
As the song progressed, fans - five each from every competing nation began trickling onto the stage, dressed up in their countries national flags. Nothing except the timing had been practised, each fan was instructed to go out, show energy and enjoy themselves. The organising committee had hoped that this edition would be a return to the grassroots, and this was one way in which they hoped to do it.
Beating borders, louder
Crossing oceans, louder
Beating borders, louder
Crossing oceans...
Oh, I sing, I sing for unity
It's in our hands, join the world band
Oh, I sing, I sing my favourite song
United we sing, divided we fall
Let us sing, let us sing together
oho oho
Let us sing, let us sing together
oho oho
As if the steady streak of unprepared fans acting as backup dancers weren't enough, around a hundred balloons, again coloured in national flags, were dropped onto the stage. It might've been chaos, but it was managed chaos and it looked good.
One voice, carried in the wind
One voice, coming from within
Join us, join our melody
I said, join us, sing for eternity
Beating borders, louder
Crossing oceans, louder
Beating borders, louder
Crossing oceans...
Oh, I sing, I sing for unity
It's in our hands, join the world band
I sing, I sing my favourite song
United we sing, divided we fall
Let us sing, let us sing together
oho oho
Let us sing, let us sing together
oho oho
The monitor at the back of the stage began filling with thousands of small images - and the sound - of people singing along, from around the world.
Way-a way-o way-o way-a
Way-o way-o way-a
Way-o way-o way
Way-a way-o way-o way-a
Way-o way-o way-a
Way-o way-o way
Oh, I sing, I sing for unity
It's in our hands, join the world band
I sing, I sing my favourite song
United we sing, divided we fall
The hosts moved to the front of the stage, whilst Vidi quietly moved to the back, directing singing occasionally but generally allowing the song to be taken over by the combined forces of the fans on the stage, the fans in front of the stage and the pre-recorded fans played from the speakers.
Oh, I sing, I sing for unity
It's in our hands, join the world band!
Oh, I sing, I sing my favourite song
United we sing, divided we fall
Let us sing, let us sing together
oho oho
Let us sing, let us sing together
oho oho
Let us sing, let us sing together
oho oho
Let us sing, let us sing together
oho oho
Let us sing, let us sing together
oho oho
Let us sing, let us sing together
oho oho
As the music ended, the crowd on the stage began to quietly disperse. The host, one of the best known media personalities in The Sarian, Wil Cousins stepped forward, "Welcome to the grounds of the historic Presidential Palace here in Lavington! Let the 45th WorldVision Song Contest BEGIN!"
