2016 A New World (Reboot|IC)

Postby Terrelis » Sun Jan 31, 2016 9:31 pm

Welcome to A New World!
An Alternate History of the Modern World RP

RULES

• Realism is an integral part of these RPs and it will be maintained throughout, do not create any ridiculous nations like a South American Federation or Korean-controlled China, decisions like that as well as outrageous IC decisions will result in you being kicked, if you don't if something is realistic, or you have doubts, ask me.
• Wars don't happen just because there needs to be events leading to all major conflicts or attacks, that means there should be multiple post before you go attacking another nation, even then all wars must be approved by myself or the Co-OPs.
NO ONE IS TOO BIG TO LOSE! If you think your nation is invisible then you're wrong, don't be a sore loser just accept it and move on, rebuild and try again if you really want to come out victorious.
• This is a modern world RP so tech is the same as it is IRL, I will make accept ions as long as they fit the first rule.
• ...and as you all know no metagaming, godmoding, flaming, listen to OPs, etc...

Important IC Info

• WWI, known IC as The Great War, and the Cold War still happened and they had the same outcome; WWII, however, did not happen and is not cannon.
• The League of Nations succeeded and transformed itself into the modern day UN, which is headquartered in te Palace of Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.
• Israel controls the West Bank and Gaza, and defeated the Palestinian State.

Berlin, Germany
Die Deutsche Föderation (The German Federation)

Alexis Bähr, the current Kaiser of the Federation, or Association, was sitting in the Kaiser's Palace, within Berlin. Bähr had many issues to deal with... the communists were few in number within German borders, these days. And the Untermensch were almost gone- aside from in the cities. The Nazis who advocated for the destruction of the Untermensch in government had to be careful. For, if they allowed the military to begin picking the untermensch off the streets, news would spread fast. Luckily, the government controlled most internet access and such, using it to spread propaganda. But, at the same time, the modern world's internet and such allowed for people to communicate very fast.

Bähr's main issue right now was when there were no more communists, when there were no more untermensch... what was Germany to do? The powerful, industrial Nazi machine needed an enemy within and without to fight; on the outside, they offered assistance to quell and contain communism. On the inside, they still had some communists and untermensch left- albeit, their numbers were now thin. The Final Solution was almost complete. Without something to keep people afraid of something lurking in the shadows, what could the government do to keep their citizens in line or from revolting against the government? Very little.

Bähr needed a new plan. Something that would make the Federation better. Stronger. More capable to spread the Nazi Agenda. With the strong threat of the UN or NATO intervening, however, Bähr saw no feasible way to do this. There needed to be something for the people to want gone. Bähr suddenly had an idea; and a grin spread upon his face. The Kaiser stood immediately, leaving his office. He needed to speak with his advisers, and those within the Bundestag. The Bähr Plan would allow the Nazis to continue keeping their hold over current German borders. As he walked to the Bundestag with some of his advisers, to begin conversing about his new plan, he watched about the city.

Berlin was a working machine. Like clockwork. Very industrial and modern; beautiful views, and hard-working factories near the edges. Berlin itself was almost a fortress of sorts, protected by the Bundes Wache, or Federal Guard. Essentially, the protectors of the Kaiser, Bundestag, and the Admiralitätsgerichte, the Bundes Wache ensured that Berlin was secure and protected. Within Berlin itself, the hustle and bustle mainly consisted of Nazi government workers, and some citizens and such. Most of them were True Aryans - the top of the hierarchy the Bundestag and he had created when "founding" the Federation. True Aryans were the purest Germans, commonly known as just Aryans or Aryan-Germans.

Bähr admired the city. It was the pinnacle of the Federation. The most beautiful place within Germany. Or, at least, that was his opinion. He was sure there were other quite beautiful places in Germany, but none were such as Berlin. Bähr entered the Bundestag building with his advisers. Time to get to work. Hopefully, if all went according to plan, Germany would be a grander power; and the Nazis would spread their influence across the globe. For now, though; it was time to plan. The entire Bundestag was conversing now about the Bähr Plan...

January 1, 2016
Palace of Versailles

King Jacque stood at the window overlooking the suburb of which his palace lay. Versailles looked just as it did nearly a century ago, with the people working hard to maintain its historical value and culture. Although the King admired its history he also wanted it to progress with the times. A clear example of this was the hyperloop system being built, a program he had authorities in 2010 and had begun construction in 2012. There were stations in Lyon and Bordeaux which had been finished in November 2015, and the stations in Versailles and Rennes would be finished in March 2016.

He went back to his desk where various bills were scattered. The most prevalent of the bunch was the Universal Healthcare Act, which wasn't all that universal. The bill mandated the government provide healthcare coverage for all those designated low or middle class, while the upper class still had to pay an annual fee albeit a small fee. Jacque was in support of the bill but many of the commonwealths British citizens had been vocally opposing the bill since its introduction. Upsetting the British could lead to another war something neither his country nor the world needed at the moment.

The world had been in a state of peace, for the most part, since the turn of the century. A major factor was the United Nations strict oversights of belligerent nations like Germany and Australia. Though 2016 seemed to be a year of change, whether it be good or bad the world wouldn't remain the same. For France this meant more technological advancement and spreading its influence beyond the borders of Europe.

Stockholm, Sweden, Nordic Confederation
Presidential Palace
January 1st, 2016
President Ema Solberg lay in her bed. It was early in the morning, and she had a speech to deliver to the people later today. But she was tired, only just recently recovering from pneumonia. Prime Minister Markus Talaka had been acting leader in her absence. A guardsmen came in
"Madame president, the speech for the people is in half an hour."
"Thank you Klaus. I'll be ready."
She quickly set about getting ready and within a short matter of time was ready.

She walked out to the balcony, overlooking the courtyard where thousands had gathered. This was her New Years tradition, talking to the people. She waited for the people to silence.
"People of Norden, we have made it another glorious year. As we step into this new year of 2016, I have plans to make us more self sufficient, less reliant on fossil fuels that polluting our environment, and to further raise our standards. Already we are a strong nation, but there are some who would love to take that away from us, as well as our oil wealth. This is why the budget for this year will give a slight increase to our armed forces. Thy are the brave men and women who fight for our freedom and will defend our nation in any time of need, so their pay will be increased." She awaited their response. A resounding praise came. This was a casual talk between leader and her people, unlike other world leaders. Some people shouted questions to her, which she gladly responded.
"What about Germans to our south, whom have long been militarized after their loss in the Great War? Should we be worried?"
"No, of course not. If they wanted to invade I'm sure they would have done so along time ago, when we weren't so advanced in technology. We can defend ourselves, and also receive assistance from allies."
The talk went on for hours, until most people had eventually left.
Ema smiled, she was one of the most favored leaders in all of Nordic history, and she felt proud. She went in after waving to the people.

The Better China

3:04 PM, Beijing

President Xi stood in front of the crowd as he shuffled his papers. Hello everyone , today I don't speak to you as a leader, not as a Government official, but as a brother. The threat to the world is ever increasing as China's responsibility to the world skyrockets. We must make friends not enemies, however I see the possibility of the Chinese people being attacked. Therefore , I'm raising the budget of the military. We are also planning to invest in other countries, while raising relations with other countries. As President Xi stepped of the stage, cheering began to erupt in the crowd.

Presidential Palace, Stockholm
President Ema Solberg sat at her desk, pondering whom to seek closer relations with and who to move away from. She looked at a map of the world, and at the stats. Largest GDPs, strongest militaries, industry, manufacturing and the like. The most notable in the past had always been China, with a population of over one billion people, a huge industrial and manufacturing sector, and one of the largest economies.

To: President Xi Jinping, China
Dearest Xi, China and Norden have always been more friendly than most western nations have been with China. But since Norden is a more neutral nation and militarily aligned to no one, we make our own choices. That is why I wish to expand our relations. I ask to make a free trade agreement with China so as to expand our trade and our economies. As well, I ask if we may become a member or at least an observer of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Signed, Ema Solberg, Norden

Next she looked over other great powers in the world. She sent a message to Russia.
To: President Vladimir Putin, Russia
Mister Putin, Russian relations with Norden have always been rather on and off. But I wish to mend our tension and form an alliance with Russia. I propose a free trade agreement and a mutual defense pact for the safety of both our nations and benefit of both our economies.

Signed, Ema Solberg, Norden

Tokyo Imperial Palace
Tokyo, Japan

Dozens of Japanese dignitaries of various stations inclined their heads in respect as the Emperor finished a traditional Shinto ceremony. They knew it would be his last and accorded it the utmost respect as they prepared for the inevitable conclusion. Eyes began to subtly lay upon the upper left section of the attendees, where Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako stood. Finally, the ceremony was completed and the Emperor addressed his subjects with surprising vigor, considering his ailing health.

"As it has been since time immemorable, the proud line of the Emperor of Japan remains unbroken. My eldest son, Naruhito, possesses the blood of Amaterasu, the same as I. While the office of the Emperor demands great strength, it demands even greater wisdom. To guide the spirit of our great nation has been not only my duty as Emperor, but also my greatest pleasure. My failing health no longer allows me to adequately perform the duties of the Emperor. Amaterasu has deemed my duty done and Japan is ready for a new Emperor to bring the divine light of our faith to the world. In accordance with the laws of succession, I formally abdicate the Chrysanthemum Throne. May the next Emperor bring even greater prosperity than I or my predecessors. The Kami will it."

The room remained quiet as the Emperor stepped back and was whisked away by several attendants. When he had departed, Crown Prince Naruhito rose and took the place of his father.

"In accordance with the laws of succession, I lay claim upon the Chrysanthemum Throne as the first son of former Emperor Akihito and descendant of Amaterasu."

At this, Prince Akishino, the second son of the now former Emperor Akihito, dropped to his knees and prostrated himself before his older brother. The rest of the assembled dignitaries quickly followed, including the Prime Minister of Japan. Naruhito looked pleased.

"If none oppose my rightful claim to the Chrysanthemum Throne, then I hereby declare myself Emperor. I demand obedience from my subjects in accordance with our sacred laws. By the will of Amaterasu, I will lead our nation to unrivaled glory. Long has Japan been neglected by a world that has forgotten our power. No longer! Under my leadership, Japan will reclaim its rightful place as the world power it once was and we will emerge stronger than ever. I will call upon all of you to exert your utmost efforts in achieving this goal. Take time to reflect upon these words and prepare for the work that must be done. For the glory of the Empire!"

As one, the dignitaries replied with a resounding "Yes, your highness!" and dozens of attendants moved forward to commence with the ceremonies of succession. The former Emperor Akihito stood outside the room, but he could hear the speech of his son. Under his rule the Empire had lost much of its former glory, but stability and harmony had been achieved. This was not enough for many, including his son. Emperor Naruhito would have popular support from a young, boisterous population. He loved his son dearly, but he was concerned that his policies might bring ruin upon the hard-earned stability of the Empire. Akihito quietly returned to his residence and dismissed his attendants for the rest of the day. He decided to sleep for a spell as he felt the burden of the office of the Emperor lifted from his weary shoulders. It appeared as if that burden had been the only thing keeping him alive. He was discovered the next morning to have passed away in his sleep. Those who attended to him even said that he had a peaceful smile on his face.

Honolulu, O'ahu, Kingdom of Hawai'i:

Honolulu, Hawai'i. A quiet, peaceful town, bustling with workers and politicians, the ever familiar sounds of a capital city. People from all walks of life and all ethnicities, including Koreans, Chinese, Japanese, Filipinos, Native Hawaiians, Anglos, and even some Hispanics walked around in what was refered to as the most diverse city in Hawai'i, and perhaps the Pacific. Today, a rather interesting issue had arisen in Hawai'i. Since the end of the Pacific War, Hawai'i had been in control of the Mariana Islands, except for Guam, which remained under American control. Hawai'i had greatly expanded the population of the islands, although more so in the Southern Isles of Saipan and Rota, where the population had risen to 100,000. The islands were a major trade center for Hawai'i and Saipan hosted a Naval Base for the Hawaiian Navy, with 1 Destroyer and 2 Missile Cruisers stationed there. It also hosted a small air base, with 15 Fighter Jets and several recon planes. In short, the islands where valuable to Hawai'i. But Japan, with its new Emperor, was almost certain to attempt to reclaim them. A debate was raging in the Hawaiian Parliament over what should be done with the islands, while the King passively watched on. His eldest son was with him, part of his lessons for the day he would inherit the throne of Hawai'i. Parliament Members flung insults and ideas back and forth, Hawaii's four major political parties all fighting with each other as usual. The Conservatives shouted at the Liberals, the Liberals cursed at the Royalists, and the Royalists yelled at the Socialists. The King sighed, as this went on just about daily. He understood why the Parliament needed to exist, but he didn't understand why they argued so much. His son, however, stood up, with an look on his face that suggested he had an idea. The King, deciding to give him a chance at politics, shouted "ENOUGH! Stop your bickering, and listen to what my son has to say. The boy may be young, but I will give him a chance at the world of politics." The Members of Parliament shifted uncomfortably before shutting up and paying attention to the Crown Prince. He shifted from foot to foot, before the King nudge him. His head shot up, and he said "Perhaps we should work out a deal with Japan. Our most valuable islands in the Mariana Island Chain are Saipan and Rota. So we tell the Japanese, we will give you all of the Mariana islands north of Saipan. The Mariana islands of Saipan and all those south of it remain in the hands of the Kingdom of Hawai'i. In exchange, they would agree to sign a non-aggression pact with Hawai'i and possibly a trade agreement, which would seem only fair after we give up some of our land." The King smiled, and the Parliament Members were shocked into silence. The Prince looked around nervously, assuming he had done something wrong, before a Conservative Delegate from Lanai finally got around to speaking and said "That's the best damn idea I've heard since we started this arguement! My King, your son is a natural diplomat, and a genius!" The other Parliament members, soon agreeing, made the Prince smile with pride, and the King slapped him on the back. "Great job, my son! You will make a fine Kinh if you keep this up. What you have suggested will be done, so declares I, King of the Kingdom of Hawai'i!"

Stockholm, Sweden, Nordic Confederation
President Solberg got ready. She had made plans for a meeting with Baltic diplomats. The Baltic states had long been allies of Norden and sought close relations with them. As Russia has recently grown more and more volatile, the Baltics have come to seek protection by other powers. Norden was one such power.

Stockholm airport
Ema boarded the private jet, destined for Helsinski where the meeting would take place. Her guardsmen and a couple other people boarded. The flight took roughly an hour.

Royal Finnic Palace, Helsinski, Finland, Nordic Confederation
Ema was driven in her Chrysler limo and arrived at the palace. She was escorted in and awaited, for the other diplomats to arrive. When the three Baltic diplomats arrived, they greeted and shook hands and such. Estonian ambassador Merle Pajula, Latvian ambassador Maija Manika and Lithuanian ambassador Eitvydas Parajunas were in attendance with Ema.
Merle: "The Estonian government has grown weary of the unrest in Ukraine caused by Russia, and their illegal occupation of Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk. We fear Russia may attempt to possibly invade the Baltics starting with Estonia due to our border. So I have been sent here today to negotiate a mutual defense pact." He looked at the other two Baltic diplomats "I'm sure it's why all three of us are here." The two nodded.
Ema: "Relations with Russia have always been a struggle to fix due to their resentment of Norden over past wars and such. We too are worried the Russians might try something, I'm sure we are all interested in the safety and protection of our nations."
Eitvydas: "Yet we find it increasingly worrying as the Russians step up their game in dangerous displays of power, flying very near or sometimes over our airspace. As well we notice a build up in kalingrad oblast."
Merle: "In short, the Baltics are in danger no very worried about a possible Russian invasion."
Maija spoke up: "Though Latvia has had less problems with Russian jets than Estonia, their still have been times we were worried we might have to scramble jets. A few times we escorted them out of our airspace."
Merle: "And it seems to be happening more and more each year. This sudden show of power puts many of our citizens on edge, worrying about a repeat of the soviet occupation."
The talking on dangers continued for a while, until they got to the subject of military.
Eitvydas: "So our armed forces are equipped with robust American and European equipment, but still not large enough to fend for long against any Russian invasion. So we ask you, Norden, to help us in the case that Russia oversteps its boundaries and does make a move on the Baltics."
Ema pondered this for a while, consulting her advisors there in Swedish.
"I can agree that the Baltics are in danger by what my main worry is how the Russians would react. They might take it as an act of aggression."
Merle:'"In which case we could see an immediate war. One we could easily be overrun in."
Maija: "I suggest we three strengthen our armed forces by slightly increasing our military budgets. A Baltic Task Force, a military unit consisting of Latvian, Estonian, Lithuanian, and Norden soldiers could do us good. If we better patrol the Baltic Sea and monitor Russian activity, we could maybe assure the Russians would back off if not completely then at least in some sense."
Ema: "This task force is a good idea, but who would be in command? Or would it be a joint thing as the name suggests?"
Maija: "Joint, of course."
The talk continued for a short while longer until the four had come to a unanimous decision. The Baltic ambassadors called their respective leaders to confirm what they agreed upon and got permission. A treaty forming the Baltic Defense Pact and formation of the Baltic Task Force were signed. Norden would come to the Baltics defense if any nation invaded them. As well the other two Baltics would help the other in such a case. The Baltic Task Force would be highly trained unit for special operations and such.

La Asamblea Republicana del Gran Perú, Executive Action Speech to The Assembly

El Presidente René Juan Alejandro Soto walked up to the podium, shaking hands and waving "hola" all along the way. He had gathered The Assembly to meet, as the Constitution required when he was issuing an executive action. Nobody, except El Presidente's immediate Cabinet, knew what his plan was or what it pertained to. Yet they would soon find out.

“Good morning distinguished guests, members of La Asamblea Republicana, and all of my Gran Peruano brethren.

Last month I welcomed some of our friends from the United States and China to Lima, and it made me realize something. Our country, despite its wondrous people and willpower, is lacking. We lack what the world powers have. We lack the universal literacy. We lack the technology to feed every single citizen what he deserves on his dinner table. A quarter of our people work in agriculture, yet almost half of our population may find it difficult to feed their families. It is sad, it truly is. We are the greatest nation in Latin America, yet we lack these seemingly basic things.

So I am taking action.

When our heroes in uniform came back from fighting over a century ago, we mourned those we lost, and got to work. We built our country from ashes. We, in nineteen eighteen, were still a poor third world country due to the way that the Spanish enslaved their colonial subjects. We were feeling their wrath almost a century after independence. And even today, in twenty sixteen, this modern era, after we built our country into a great one, are affected by the way our forefathers were treated. Our Quechua and Aymara people, those whose lands the Spaniards took through force and treachery, suffer still. They suffer disproportionately. Compared to the rest of the population nearly ten times as many Quechua and Aymara people are farmers unable to move to the cities and seek a better job. Nearly twenty times more are impoverished. They have access to health care and social security only a tenth as often as the rest of us. Yet they are our brothers and sisters. They are Gran Peruano, there is no excuse.

I will be issuing an executive reform to help relieve those afflicted by poverty in our country. Farmers in the Andes and on the coasts will use the techniques used by the Inca people so long ago. The Inca turned the dry and infertile highlands into breadbaskets able to feed tens of millions, yet after the Spaniards came their terrace farms and aqueducts fell to ruin. The most experienced agricultural scientists of this generation, our smartest farmers, effectively, believe that hunger in Gran Perú could be almost eradicated if we began to use these techniques again. And so we will. What’s more we will begin to renovate our educational system. Only a fifth of our adults go to college, while our neighbor, Brasil, has nearly double that percentage. Therefore I will order the construction of new university campuses, heavily subsidized, and highly affordable. They will be in the cities, to reach as many students as possible. But, I will not ignore the rural folk. There will be a system of college-level educational courses available in new, smaller, schools dotted around the country. This is only the beginning. The details have yet to be completely hammered out, yet I believe that this will only begin the tradition of higher education in our great nation. When people are educated, they are able to do more things, better things, live better lives, contribute to their country in more effective ways.

Now, I will be open to questions.”
yee haw it's time for mass line

Harare, the Federal Republic of Southern Africa/Le République Fédérale du L'Afrique Australe

Harare twinkled like an oil lamp under the coal-black sky - economic growth had been phenomenal for the past 30 years or so; since they'd overthrown the White regime in the early eighties. Vast hordes of tower blocks divided the skyline into squares; like a victorious state dividing a conquered foe after a war - still, there was much work to be done. While it was indeed true that the Southern African state was one of the strongest in Africa in terms of economic and military power - that wasn't good enough; in the eyes of the Soviets, Americans, Germans and Gran Peruanos, Africa was a backwater and claiming to be strong here would be met with howls of shrill laughter from all the mentioned states. However, in contrast to other African states, it did have a few things going for it - it wasn't racked by civil war like in Somalia and it had excellent literacy among the populace and compared to the rest of Southern Africa, AIDS cases were at an all time low - with effective treatments and the like reducing the number of people with AIDS to 5% of the population.* Better still, these were able to work and blend into society normally - as the drugs allowed them to remain in an excellent state of health.

The state would need allies... maybe.

(OOC: Yes, AIDS can't be cured, however, I'm referring to mother to child transmissions etc)

The Better China

3:09 PM, Chinese Emergency Meeting

President Xi sat at a table as his Generals and Advisors took their seats. Xi began speaking. As you all know, recently the U.S has been wanting to flex their muscles, therefore in order I would like ideas on how to counter this. The men sat in silence. A young general broke the silence. Why don't we make an alliance with several nations that ensures sovereignty of other nations while insuring Chinese peace? President Xi was shocked that the young male spoke out. Great idea!
the President shouted.

Official Mail from the Chinese Government

To; Gran Peru, USSR, Indonesia, Japan, Hawaii

Greetings! As you all know the threat in the world against peace is ever rising. Therefore I propose the creation of an alliance between Gran Peru, USSR, Indonesia, Japan, and Hawaii. This alliance would be economic as well as militaristic. If one of us is attacked all of us are attacked, etc,.

Official Mail from the Chinese Government

To; USSR

Greetings! As you may know, the U.S is trying to curb the USSR and China. Therefore, I propose a joint space mission. If you are interested in a possible discussion, please send some form of communication back.

Official Mail from the Chinese Government

To; Norden

Greetings! In regards to the trade agreement, we'd be interested. We can arrange a meeting in the near future. This would cover SCO membership, trade agreements, and possible Chinese investment in your nation.

January 1st, 2016

It was the first day of the new year, and a well-rested President Micheal Bartlet left his car accompanied by senior cabinet members, his main staff and security. Many reporters were gathered around the entrance to the Senate, but Bartlet waved them away when his staff made clear that questions could be asked after the yearly opening of the senate. The senate hall itself was jam-packed, pictures being taken everywhere and most senators not at their seats. When the President himself entered however, the lines straightened and the room became quiet, only to be followed by an applause. The president assumed his place in front of the speaker of the Senate, and started his yearly inaugural address.

"Mr. Speaker. The Honourable senators. My fellow Canadians. This is my 7th speech of this sort, but I hope you'll bear with me despite that." He paused for some strained laughter "When I held this speech 7 years ago, our economy was in a falling phase, completely destroyed. We had to go through hard cuts in welfare and defense to put our economy back to the levels and growth of 2007, and I can stand here today and say that our nation is back on track. Canada is booming. Unemployment has decreased by 1.3% on average during every year in my presidency, our economy is incredibly competetive and we are investing in our own people - not some wars in foreign countries with little purpose or goals. I am truly proud over what the people of this country has accomplished, and how we saved ourselves from the crisis dragging us down. That is why I'm announcing a program to invest in the Future. A Green Canada. Together with leading companies the goal will be to lower CO2 emissions significantly before 2025, with the program to launch and receive direct goals before the end of the year." The speech went on with other facts, announcements and rhetorical proposals. The president left the Senate in applause.

He wanted to start the year's foreign policy soon, not only turning to Canada's southern ally.
Hello, it's Zap! If you read this it's most likely on a P2TM roleplay thread. I'm not a native English speaker (or writer for that matter), so if you notice mistakes I am happy to receive feedback. I know I'm prone to dangling modifiers, capitalization mistakes, use of commas, and other errors. If I were to use a semicolon, there's a 97% chance I just put it there because they look fancy; I have no idea how they work. If it's spelling it just means Grammarly wasn't cooperating. Thanks.

Brunei, a small but rich nation with a beautiful landscape, although there was one problem with this nation, Sharia Law. As China sought to flex it muscles and show the world that China would pursue peace and stability, Operation Integration began.

What is Operation Integration?

This plan would effectively have China buy out Brunei in a way. The first target was the national communication provider of Brunei, Telekom Brunei Berhad. This company is the sole provider of phone and internet service in Brunei, and if the Chinese are to buy out Brunei with a virtual monopoly, the first step was this company.

7 Days Later, Shenzen, Alibaba Press Conference

Jonathan Zhaoxi Lu stepped on stage as the crowd cheered. This wasn't his first Press Conference, but he was still very nervous. Alibaba Corp Ltd had from the beginning held relations with the government, but now the company had to serve the government. Jonathan Zhaoxi Lu began speaking.

Greetings everyone, before I begin I would like to thank the former CEO, Jack Ma, on leading me in this exciting experience. The crowd erupted in cheering. He then cleared his throat and spoke again.

Alibaba began in 1999 as an idea, but has transformed to a majorly successful company. That is why today, I'm proud to announce that after several days of hassling, Alibaba Corp LTD now holds the single communication provider in Brunei, Telkom Brunei Berhad.

The crowd erupted into cheering as Jonathan stepped off the stage.

Duce Ignazio Cipriani stood, onlooking the Italian people, as they gathered to hear him speak. Although not as skilled an orator as the original Il Duce, Mussolini, Cipriani was a celebrated leader, and his followers hung on his every word. If he was your sole provider of news (which, considering the effectiveness of the Ministry of Press and Propaganda, was true for a majority of Italians), you would believe that Italy was the most powerful, prosperous, and perfect nation on this very Earth. Unfortunately for the Italian people, not everyone saw it this way. With the growing unrest in Libia Italiana (not from the citizens themselves, but from those who came from the surrounding area to disrupt the peace), and the increasing revulsion to Italy by the international community, which was only topped by their revulsion towards the German Federation (misery loves company!), Italy wasn't exactly the best place to be. Still, the popularity of Italian racing (the Italian Grand Prix, Roman Grand Prix, and the Tripoli Grand Prix, just to name a few) meant that tourism was one of the largest industries in Italy, especially given the romanticization of Roman history. In fact, it was only topped by the manufacturing industry, which was an economic powerhouse in the Italian commercial sphere. Cipriani had barely made it back to Rome in time for his speech, as he had taken his wife to Venice just the day before. There was just nothing more romantic than a gondola ride through the canals.

Roughly translated to English, Cipriani gave this impassioned speech: "Brothers! Sisters! Children of Rome! Yet another year has passed where our great nation has prospered! Look amongst yourselves, and tell me what you see. You see the greatest, most powerful people on the face of this planet! The global community is so afraid of us, so afraid of our military, our economy, our people, that they refuse to even look at us! They claim to despise us, and our way of life, but do they impose sanctions? No! Do they close off their borders? No! They try to threaten us with their words, but their actions betray them. They try to seem strong, and yet even a blind man can see that they are cowards! They think that they can shun us, that they can ignore us, but a man can not ignore the very sun! A man standing on the road can not ignore a bus! A man on the tracks can not ignore a speeding train! What happens to men who ignore these things? They are CRUSHED by the might of what they cannot understand, what they cannot recognize, what they cannot even see! Sisters and daughters of Rome, you must have children! Why would you deny greatness to your very own flesh and blood? Bring them into this world, so they can fight to make a better Italy, a more dominant Italy, a stronger Italy! Brothers and sons of Rome, enlist in our military! Or build for the glorious Italian military! Italy, she does not care what race you are! She does not care what you look like, what sex you are, what you are attracted to, or where you come from! She only cares that you fight, for a better Italy! Only through strength can this world have peace! Tell me, why did Ancient Greece fall? Why did Ancient Egypt fall? Why did the very monarchy of this great nation fall?!? They were WEAK! Italy is strong, and prosperous! We are not weak, and we will never, ever fall!"

Currently, Cipriani was trying to promote rebuilding the Italian military. Largely, this was working. Hundreds of new military vehicles were pouring out of the manufacturing hubs of Italy, mainly being built with reclaimed scrap metal from older, more damaged military vehicles. Of these, there were plenty. Some, that were not being scrapped, were sent to museums all over Italy. Others were simply being retired from military use, and given to the Carabinieri, the Fascist military police. Surprisingly, they did not have as much work as one would think. Italian citizens actually had it pretty good under the Fascist government, even in places outside of the Italian mainland. Most insurgents were either from other countries, or were being funded by enemies of Italy. Still, suppressing the ones that did exist was no picnic. Luckily, they were very resourceful, and most of the military reserve currently served in the Carabinieri, which was useful, as it allowed them to gain useful combat experience, without having to go to war. In addition, it was a good replacement for military boot camps, of which Italy had none. Those wanting to join the military first served in the Carabinieri for two years, after which they were normally ready for regular service. This was going to be a good year for Italy.

Berlin, Germany
Die Deutsche Föderation (The German Federation)

Alexis Bähr had finally gotten out of the Bundestag. They had approved the Bähr Plan. This would be good. This would make Germany and the Aryan People the most glorious people on Earth. Bähr knew that there was only one ally that Germany could rely on, but this was only because the world despised both nations; Italy, and Germany. However, the Bähr Plan involved the Italians. Alexis was sure they would be interested. The Kaiser entered the Ministerium für Auswärtige Angelegenheiten (Ministry of Foreign Affairs). Bähr needed to contact Italy; he was glad that Berlin had been built the way it was, with all essential government agencies and such in the very heart of the fortified capital.

"Achtung!*", Bähr shouted. Immediately, some of the guards in the room saluted him as the Kaiser, as well as the civilian workers. He nodded in dismissal, as they went back to work; two guards began to escort him to the Ministerium's Communications Center, where he could have a message sent to Italy. Bähr walked slowly through the building, as the guards escorted him. As he arrived into the room, everyone saluted him. He simply saluted back, before waving his hand down to make them at ease. Bähr looked over at one of them.

"Ich möchte eine Nachricht an die Italienische Regierung zu senden.*", Bähr ordered. They all nodded in understanding, getting back to work while he had one of the workers send a message. After ordering the message sent, Bähr ordered that they call him when the Italians responded. Bähr headed back towards the palace, having two guards beside him at all times. Bähr had to ensure they had Italian support in this, otherwise they wouldn't be able to carry out the Bähr Plan as easily as he wished it would be.

We would like to strengthen our ties, and our Kaiser has a new proposition that would immeasurably benefit both of our two nations. If this is inconvenient at the moment, we request to know when such a time that is more convenient would be available. We look forward to your response.

Harare, The Federal Republic of Southern Africa/Le République Fédérale du L'Afrique Australe

Francois Nkomo was bored. In fact, suggesting otherwise would be criminal if he had his way; no interesting information had come out from the other states of the world - an intelligence officer of the IRIG had reported on a speech made in Rome by the Duce of Italy, Ignazio Cipriani. A translated copy was sitting on Francois' desk at this very moment - unread and likely not to be; fascists gave big speeches all the time, this one was likely to be a rant towards the international community at large or something to that. It went into a wastebin like that too, Nkomo not having bothered to read the speech or learn about the potential implications of an Italian military build up. Still, the officer who sent that speech - a White Zimbabwean named Pierre was probably sunning himself in Naples or skiing in Piedmont by now - his tasks(whatever they were) complete. It was only when Nkomo stretched out and remembered that there was something interesting going on later today.

The announcement of the "Anti-Facist" trading law - primarily curtailing Italian and German access to Zimbabwe's markets and large restrictions on German companies operating in Southern Africa. Italian companies were exempted as there were no reports of genocide exploding onto news stations across the world yet. It was the fear of genocide which made Southern Africa apply the laws to Italy too - believing that like other facist groups; they'd turn to genocide eventually. However, when it came to The German Federation - which did have a history of genocide(having quietened completely since the 1990s, or so it seemed.) they would find that their companies were no longer able to trade in the state and that Southern African companies would no longer be able to trade in The Federation. In addition, an extra 125% tariff on all German goods would come into effective from midnight tonight. Italy on the other hand would face a comparatively minor extra 45% tariff on its goods. Their companies were free to trade within the state if they pleased however. Given how all non-Southern African goods had tariffs of 30% it wasn't the worst thing that could happen.

Still, after half an hour, Nkomo headed to a larger office to broadcast on radio and television, his own speech - to explain the measures.

With a clearing of the lungs, his speech began.

"Citizens of Southern Africa, today, following discussions throughout 2015, the government has used its executive powers to bypass the constitution and implement a new law. From midnight tonight, all German and Italian goods will see increased tariffs and difficulties in breaking into our markets. Furthermore, German companies will be completely forbidden from selling within the state - and will find their premises auctioned off to a company not of German origin. Lastly, our companies will no longer be able to trade within Italy or Germany, as we don't wish to fund genocide. These laws stem from our fear of a potential genocide occuring within these states against races and groups which they deem 'undesirable.' In the past, The German Federation has actually committed genocide against those who it views as 'subhuman,' while we believe Italy will do in the future. Let me point out, that we, Africans are regarded as lower than dogs within German society and if we were to have crimes committed against us; the police would assist the perpetrators in their endeavours.

Naturally, this must end."

It was a good speech, as citizenry who gathered in the bars and pubs would state later; as they gathered around their radios and televisions - listening in.

Monaco

President Louis Geordi

Louis Geordi sat in his office in the capital building of Monaco, looking over the various papers sprawled over his desk, bills ranging from military funding to universal healthcare scattered about. The House of Commons decided to bombard him with a salvo of bills all at once for some reason, instead of passing them on to him when they were originally passed through the House, which would make things infinitely easier. He pulled out two stamps from his desk drawer, an Approved stamp with green ink, and a Veto stamp with red ink. He looked over all of the bills, and organized them. Most of the bills were unneeded, and unnecessary, so they received a Veto, but a few were approved, such as the bill to give the commercial ports an overhaul, and to repair some of the older roads in the state.

After he did some rough math in his head, Geordi concluded that there would be a slight excess of cash that could be placed into the Federal Reserve in case the government had, well, for lack of better words, a 'rainy day'. He handed off the stack of bills to his secretary who would inform the house of the results. Only one bill remained on his desk, the Universal Healthcare Act. He was hesitant to settle on a decision for it, because many of his political supporters voiced their opposition of it, and passing it could cost him the next election. Although, many of the people supported the idea, which could as well win him the election. He declined to make a decision today on the bill, and chose to instead, wait the thirty maximum days before he would have to turn over the bill to the High Court for them to make the decision.

He placed the bill in his filing cabinet and continued with his other presidential duties.

Colonel Earl Johnson

Colonel Earl Johnson, or simply Colonel, held the most senior rank in the Army, being the First Battalion Commander. There was a short 'extended weekend' coming up, where instead of having the reserve forces for the standard two day weekend, would have his battalion sized force for five days due to a string of national holidays such as their Independence Day, and Labor Day being connviently lined up. Him and his counterpart Colonel Fredrick Rennolds of the Second Battalion had planned a war game to help train the reserves and give them experience. Of course they had a bet going on under the table, and which battalion won the war game, the commander would get an old French-Indian War era bottle of French Wine, making both commanders determined to win. The exercise would start on officially start Thursday and end Tuesday, being one of the few extended reserves exercises of the year, he planned to train the reserves the most he could as fast as he could.

Cipriani Villa, Rome, Italy
January 1st, 2016

"Il Duce, c'è un messaggio per voi." (Il Duce, there is a message for you.)

Cipriani had been sitting at home, following the speech he had given to his people. He was eating linguini, with tomato sauce and Parmesan cheese. There had been a knock at his office door, and so he had gotten up from the table to answer it. His luxurious villa was just outside of the city, and overlooked the beautiful Italian countryside. Best of all, Cipriani still had twenty years left as Duce. His communications officer had come up from downstairs, after receiving an encrypted telegram. The fact that telegrams were still used puzzled Cipriani. I mean, it's 2016, and we still haven't come up with a better way to send encrypted transmissions to one another than one that was devised nearly two hundred years ago? he thought. "Chi è il messaggio da?" (Who is the message from?) he asked.

"E 'direttamente da Berlino." (It is directly from Berlin.) the communications officer answered, and he then promptly handed Cipriani the message.

The message troubled Cipriani, because previous requests like this had resulted in Germany attempting to promote their supremacist ideals in Italy. Still, as a show of good faith, and because he could be wrong about this, he decided that he would indeed heed to their request. Germany was their one ally and so the absolute last thing Cipriani wanted to do was alienate them. Besides, strengthening ties with another strong military power could only benefit the Italians. "Dite loro che siamo d'accordo a queste condizioni." (Tell them that we agree with these conditions) he finally said.

Kaiser Bähr was in the palace at this point. As he entered his palace and headed into his personal office, the phone rang. The Kaiser answered, and as expected, the Italians responded. Not only that, but they seemed a bit enthusiastic. This was good. The Bähr Plan may yet come to fruition. Alexis began to get to work, making some calls to the Ministerium, as well as the Bundestag. Alexis would have one of his trusted Rätin put into the meeting. The Rätin, or Councillors, were of the Bundestag; they belonged to the Kaiser's Council, and advised him of current goings-on in the Bundestag, as well as dealing with many official affairs.

This would allow Bähr to have someone who would help convince the Italians of the Bähr Plan. Of course, there would have to be translators; he'd have to ask the Italians if they wouldn't mind sending their own. There was much work to be done, and he didn't have the time to search for a translator on top of all this. Bähr could already see his vision, his Plan being put to work. He could see Germany standing proud atop of the world, where it should be. But for now, he must be patient and collected. The Bähr Plan would succeed, as long as he was careful.

Dearest Friends,

We are thankful that you are willing to send a diplomatic party to a meeting in Berlin. The Kaiser insists that Germany take care of everything, although some of our translators are busy at the moment; so you may need to bring one of yours. However, in terms of the flight, and hotel set up for the meeting, it will be Germany's pleasure to pay for you. We would like to conduct this meeting as soon as possible.

The Kaiser has ordered a private jet from Air Berlin to be sent to your nation later this evening to pick up the delegation. They would arrive by late at night, and the meeting would be tomorrow over dinner. This is to allow your diplomatic team some rest, and perhaps even to learn of some of Berlin's more famous landmarks. Kaiser Bähr thanks you for this opportunity, and assures you that neither of our nations will regret this meeting.

Benito Mussolini-Fiumicino International Airport, Rome, Italy
January 1st, 2016

Sure enough, late during the first night of the new year, a private plane from Germany did arrive, at the Benito Mussolini-Fiumicino International Airport. Several good translators, a few from Milan, the rest from the mountainous northeastern Italy, were waiting just beside the landing strip, along with a delegation of five, including the provincial governor of Rome, Claudio di Ravello, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francesco Antonino. Although Cipriani himself was not there to oversee the delivery of the delegation, one of his top aides was. There was a general mood of wariness and uncertainty hanging over the diplomats as they boarded the plane. The delegates just hoped that this ended well, and not like several meetings in the past. Di Ravello was a middle-aged man, hailing from Rome itself, unsurprisingly, who was there to make sure that whatever diplomatic agreement was made benefited the Italian people, on a more personal level. Antonino was younger, and had just the previous year replaced his predecessor, who had been disappeared by the Carabinieri, following a public call for the government to abandon their fascist ways, and to become a more democratic nation. One other man was there, Piero Ferrari, son of Enzo Ferrari. Cipriani requested that he come to make sure that the agreement, the subject of which he did not know, would not harm Italian business and industry

Back at the Villa, word at just reached Cipriani that a nation in southern Africa, aptly named "The Federal Republic of Southern Africa" had placed an extra 45% tariff on Italian goods, believing that Italy would commit genocide. Infuriated, the Duce threw the report down on the floor and stomped on it several times. He was simply outraged, for while he did not care what some country that represented only a small fraction of Italian profits thought, what the act symbolized was ridiculous. They erroneously assumed that, simply because Italy and Germany both had effectively similar government types, they must both be genocidal. Cipriani later gave a speech on national television, word of which likely spread across the global community. He decried the tariff, and said that (translated to English) "Believing that Italy stands for racial supremacy just because they have the same kind of government as Germany is like believing that, because water and mercury are both liquids, drinking water will kill you, simply because mercury does. It's absurd, and the global community should not stand for it. I can assure you, that the Italian people have no intention of committing mass murder, at any time in the foreseeable future."

Berlin, Germany
Die Deutsche Föderation (The German Federation)

As the plane landed in Berlin's International Airport, Berlin came into view. Berlin was a very realistic representation of industrialism and urbanization. There were many large skyscrapers and factories throughout the edges and inner areas of the city. The factories tended to be massive. There were visible Nazi German flags up and down the streets hanging from the buildings, and obvious patrols of soldiers walking through the city and patrolling the outer edges of it. The city gained the name "Fortress City" within good reason, based on what was visible. At the center of this city, however, there was a border-like wall that had all of the governmental buildings within it. The Bundestag was visible, as were the Kaiser's Palace and the Ministeriums. They all flew proud Nazi flags as well.

When the plane landed, and the delegation were to exit, they were met with by a group of about ten soldiers; the Kaiserliche Garde, or the Imperial Guard. The Kaiser's Guard. They were elite soldiers, and appeared heavily armored as well as armed. They appeared to be facing away from the delegation, to block them from the crowd. After a moment, a man in an officer's uniform came walking down the center of the group, and stood before the Italian delegation. The man looked like he was perhaps a General or Admiral of some kind.

"Sieg Heil!", the officer said audibly. He was at attention, performing the traditional Nazi salute. After a moment, he lowered his arm to his side. The man waved at one of the guards, who was looking at him; the guard saluted, and nodded, before running off. The officer then turned his attention fully to the delegation once more, walking closer as he offered a bright, friendly smile; his blonde hair combed back, his blue eyes glistening with some unknown purpose. The officer began to speak, introducing himself.

"Hallo, ich bin Anton. Ich bin ein Kommandant der kaiserlichen Garde. Meine Befehle sind Sie sicheres Geleit zu Ihrem Hotel zu gewährleisten. Ich habe einen meiner Männer die Koffer zu holen. Bitte folgen Sie mir.", Anton said. Anton turned about face, making sure the delegation was following him. They were taken to a limousine which waited for them outside, their bags being put into the trunk of a large truck that was behind it. Anton went to open the limousine door for the delegation, offering his friendly smile as they got into the limousine.

Anton closed the door, and was seen headed to another large truck infront of the limousine, getting into it. The apparent, small convoy began to move as the delegation was to be taken to their hotel, which was near the Palace itself, just outside its walls. As the limousine drove, the delegation's windows were tinted so they could not be seen; but they could see the environment around them. Blonde haired, blue eyed Germans were surrounding the city; walking their way to work, to home. They walked with family, all looking happily. There was a lot of Nazi imagery throughout the city, mostly flags. However, there was some propaganda to be seen. One poster showed a picture of a communist symbol.

Der Kommunismus wird uns vernichten. Bleiben Sie bewusst., the poster said. The limousine finally arrived at the hotel with the trucks, their bags being brought in for them. Anton stepped out and went to the limousine, opening the door for the delegation. He continued to have that oddly friendly smile. The officer seemed like he was being genuine, but it was hard to tell. Anton spoke to them one final time.

"Gute Nacht. Willkommen in Berlin!", he shouted with a salute as they were brought to their rooms in the hotel, and checked in. It appeared there were Kaiser's Guard outside of their doors, perhaps for extra security. Nonetheless, Anton closed the limousine door after waving them a polite goodbye, and began to go and get things prepared elsewhere.

((OOC: Translations: "Hello, I am Anton. I am a Commander of the Imperial Guard. My orders are to ensure you have safe escort to your hotel. I sent one of my men to retrieve your bags. Please, follow me."
"Communism will destroy us all. Stay aware."
"Good night. Welcome to Berlin!"))

Berlin, Germany
January 1st, 2016

It was apparent to the delegation that, for better or worse (mostly worse), Germany had not changed. The city itself evoked imagery of a well-oiled machine, although it seemed to many of the diplomats that the city ran too smoothly. Rather than a colorful, bustling metropolis, like Rome, Berlin was cold, unnatural, and frankly, unnerving to much of the delegation. This grey dystopia was a stark comparison to the beautiful Italian locales that the diplomats had grown fond of, and yet, if you were looking at the citizens faces, you would think that this was heaven on Earth. One might think that the smiles of the populace were worn as a mask, covering up the deadness within them. These were all thoughts that had been running through the head of Minister of Foreign Affairs Francesco Antonino, the leader of the delegation. Admittedly, he thought, he may have been putting a bit of a slant on this whole thing, as he wasn't exactly an impartial judge, and had come into this with a very clear bias. Still, this place, it was just creepy. One trip to this city alone would be enough to scare straight anyone who thought that Italy was a horrible, fascist nightmare.

The flight was probably the best part of the trip, as, while most of them were sleeping, the others had been offered familiar Italian delicacies, and some new German cuisine. Francesco himself had eaten some schnitzel, which he particularly enjoyed, and some sauerkraut, which he found horrible and disgusting. Vegetables were never meant to be sour, and the texture was just all wrong. It didn't help that the meal itself looked like a collection of dead larvae. Still, the flight was luxurious, and enough to excuse that travesty of a meal, and he washed it down with some famous German beer. Not enough to get drunk, obviously, but not exactly a modest amount either. He would have to fly private more often, he had decided, every time he had flown on a commercial airliner, he had been placed near a baby. He was grateful that it was illegal to bring babies inside of restaurants back home, because, if not for his self-control, he was liable to get up and kick a baby across the room like a football (soccer ball). This was beginning to sound like a bad Yelp review, however, so Francesco digressed from this train of thought.

The officers seemed more formal than those in Italy, and their mannerisms seemed somewhat Prussian. He was grateful to the translators, as he himself did not know a lick of German. The city was plastered with patriotic messages, and other forms of propaganda. In fact, Francesco chuckled, if they had spent as much as they did on propaganda on actually improving the lives of their citizens, Berlin would be a fantastic place to live. Throughout their entire time after touching down, they had been around heightened security, he had realized around the time he had gotten into the limousine. The limousine had passed a couple of beer halls, perhaps one of the only remnants of pre-20th century German culture. Probably not, but it certainly seemed that way, at least in Berlin. The delegates were sickened, almost hypocritically so, by almost everything they saw that day. It seemed that no one had told the people of Germany that their Kaiser hadn't put a ban on color. Everything in the entire city that wasn't a Nazi flag was either grey, or black, even the sky. It wasn't helped by the fact that it was currently winter.

Finally, however, they had reached the hotel. They were rid of that creepy, insincerely happy officer. Still, even though the beds were extremely comfortable, it was a sleepless night for most of the delegates, Francesco in particular. The sounds of a city at work, while normally comforting to him, took a dark turn that night, as he twisted and turned in his bed, his mind dwelling on what the meeting that would occur on the next day was about. He was like a small child, every shadow, every noise, and every feeling taking on a dreadfully sinister turn. He could only imagine how bad it was for the rest of the delegation, and although it was absurd, everything about Germany made it seem like a group of armed men was about to burst through the door, and send you off to some vile place, while your family desperately misses you, and while the government desperately tries to cover up your appearance. Just because Germany was a depressing place didn't mean that it had to look, sound, and feel that way too. At least Italy tries to keep up appearances, thought Francesco. Somehow, he managed to fall asleep, and awoke to a knock at his door the following morning.
