2.Hello and Welcome fellow RPers to my new RP 1965:A World Changed! The world is once again dividing itself and the many nations that inhabit this planet are pitting themselves against one another. The spread of Communism seems inevitable; the democracies of the world are watching their liberal wall crumble as their containment plan fails. Multiple proxy wars have occurred, yet an even larger conflict looms. Which side of the Iron Curtain will you be on?

Well now lets set aside the dramatic intro, somewhat dramatic, but lets go over a few pointers and regulations that will make this RP be successful:
1. This is the Cold War, well an alternate version of it, so there must be a West vs. East situation occurring.
2. We are in 1965 guys so not every nation will have access to WMD's. Although a few nations can posses them,and please don't use the "Atoms for Peace" Program as a justification for say Ireland or Sweden having Atomic Weaponry, most can begin research but this will not see quick progress.
3. The Vietnam War is in full swing however there is a twist, the nation in turmoil is the Kingdom of Indo-China which will be a broader conflict as the Republic of IndoChina encompasses Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, . Communist forces, which are largely supported by the Soviet Union are fighting government forces which are lightly backed by Western nations.
4.This isn't really a regulation but more of a pointer you can create any nation you like as long as you justify its existence in your history and remain realistic.
5. The USSR or an equivalent to it must exist.
6. Be realistic, keep in mind that although leeway is given to create any nation realism must play a huge part in your app, a South African Confederacy cannot own all of Africa.
7. The Axis were defeated, however, the Russians were stopped at the Vistula River in Poland thus allowing the Allies total victory in Berlin. The Allies left Germany in 1960 and an interim government was established to help the governing fledgling nation, the Iron Curtain failed to split Germany thus leaving it Unified.
Alright now that we have those things out of the way lets get to some more background details on the world we are going to RP in:
The American Civil War was fought but the result was a ceasefire, which resulted in the creation of the CSA due to intervention by the British. WW1 and WW2 both occurred from the same time period and both the Central Powers and Axis were defeated although the differences are in WW1 the Ottoman Empire was reduced to Turkey,Iraq, and Syria. The results of WW2 were that the Allies assumed total control of Germany as the Wehrmacht managed to hold off the Soviets at the Vistula, allowing the allies complete control of the German nation. A unified Germany exists, although pro-western a movement known as the "Fourth Reich" is beginning to gain traction and threatens the status quo as many fear the spread of Communism. The USSR or anyone who creates a state similar to it tested an Atom Bomb in 1947 thus beginning the Cold War sooner. The Korean war lasted for 5 years ending in 1955 and resulted in a Unified Korea under a Communist Regime as both Chinese and Soviet forces intervened pushing back coalition forces all the way to Pusan and forced a massive evacuation to Japan. A U.N brokered treaty ceased hostilities averting WW3; the Cuban Missile Crisis hasn't begun yet as no Soviet Missiles were sent to Cuba and no American Missiles in Italy and Turkey. The CIA-backed Coup in Persia successfully established a pro-American regime and established missile site there. A North Korea- South Korea situation has occurred in China as Nationalist Forces have assumed Control of all of South China including Taiwan as Mao and his Cronies assumed control of all of Northern China which also includes Mongolia. The USSR still launched the first satellite into space, but the CSA launched the second right after.

Indochina has been an populated area since ancient times. After multiple nations and kingdoms fought each other in the general area and fought against Chinese influence, the French Empire successfully invaded and occupied Indochina in the late 1880s and early 1890s. The area became a French colonial territory and attempts to create an independent nation were easily crushed.
That was the case, until the successful Republican Revolution in China. From then, many groups gained more traction and many intellectuals began exploring the idea of an independent and united Indochina, under either a Republic or a Kingdom. This was the case with a young Vietnamese man, Ho Chi Minh, who, having studied in France and the Soviet Union advocated for a "Republic of Indochina". His attempts at creating an united front against the French were unsuccessful and most of his comrades were arrested and executed. He, however, continued to fight, and his ideas continued to gain influence in Indochina among the populace; both socialists, republicans and monarchists.
Then, came World War II. France, largely defeated at the hands of Nazi Germany, couldn't protect its colonial possessions. Indochina fell to the imperial hands of Japan. It was site of many battles, and many civilians were arrested, tortured and executed by their new masters. The Empire of Japan was forced to leave Indochina in early 1945 after Nazi Germany was defeated and all of the Allies turned in full against it. It was then, when Ho Chi Minh, alongside socialists, republicans and even some monarchists, succeeded in forming the United Front for the Liberation of Indochina. After skirmishes with French authorities, who had meanwhile returned to Indochina, the Republic of Indochina was proclaimed. However, it wasn't recognized, despite having mass popular support. France, seeing that Indochina was on the verge of independence, decided to compromise with the monarchists.
In 1949, the Kingdom of Indochina was created, with French support. Ho Chi Minh, alongside other popular Republicans and Socialists, remained opposed to the newly established monarchy, and continued attempts to establish a Republic, with help from the increasingly powerful and influential Soviet Union. By 1954, popular unrest was widespread, and the monarchy was losing its grip on the people. It was then, that Ho Chi Minh led an army of peasants and citizens and managed to secure and drive off monarchist forces from North Vietnam and Laos. Major fighting had occurred in South Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia. The People's Republic of Indochina was proclaimed, along Marxist-Leninist lines, with the guidance of Ho Chi Minh, who became the leader of North Indochina, as it became known. Civil war had broken out.
The People's Front for the Liberation of the Fatherland, a coalition of Marxist and Marxist-Leninist parties was established as the guiding political party in the People's Republic in 1955. Thailand was secured by the People's Republic in 1958. Since then, the fighting has continued, with the population, on the most part, supporting the People's Republic. However, the Kingdom has increased its military and other countries have been involved in the war, woth the USSR giving the most aid to the People's Republic. It is not sure what will happen. However one thing is sure.

In threat of Soviet invasion, they increased the defences on their borders. Meanwhile, the West saw a opportunity in getting the SFRB join their cause; The west pampered the Federation with civil & military aid, but the leaders still believed its best to be neutral in the struggle between the East & the West. When Nikita Khrushchev took power after Stalin's death in 1953, Khrushchev took down the sanctions in hopes of restoring relations between the USSR & SFRB. With the USSR warming relations with the Federation, the SFRB they received much more civil & military aid from the Soviet Bloc. Now in 1965 they grow weary of the West and continue cordial relations with the Soviet Bloc.

Having seceded from the United States in 1861 and formed the Confederate States of America, the South set a plan to try and keep the USA fighting long enough that morale would turn enough to force the North into signing an agreement. The South, despite being outnumbered and outgunned, had far superior generals, and inflicted regular defeats on the Union Army. At the Battle of Antietam, Southern forces led by General Lee routed a Union army and turned eastwards to march on Washington. This caused mass panic in the Union capital, and President Lincoln was pressurised into entering into talks with President Davis. A temporary armistice was signed, but Lincoln ordered one final attack to repel Lee back into the South and consolidate security around Washington. McClellan's Army of the Potomac engaged Lee's army of Northern Virginia at Poolesville, but a tactically brilliant Lee fought the numerically superior Union army to a standstill, with over 20,000 Union casualties. Lincoln promptly returned to the table and the Armistice turned into the Treaty of Washington, whereby the CSA was granted independence, including all the land which had seceded, as well as all territories under 36 30, including a precious section of Californian coast.
The CSA was instantaneously recognised by major European powers, including Britain, France and Prussia. Embassies were established and trade agreements began at once. The CSA grew especially close with Britain, with the Southern planter class seeing themselves as the descendants of the Royalists in the English Civil War, whilst the British saw it as a return to the Empire, so welcomed the CSA with open arms. This would prove key to the success of the CSA, as British civil engineers travelled to the CSA in 1881 and encouraged the change in the South from a purely agriculture-based industry to one with significant industrial and manufacturing sectors. Following the end of Jefferson Davis' tenure as President, Robert E Lee ran unopposed, and became President on 16th January 1859, which would become Confederacy Day. Under Lee's guide, the South established itself on the world stage, but was still at odds with the United States of America to the North. Throughout the 1860s and 70s, there were various border skirmishes - the USA even went as far as shelling Richmond in 1873, but Lee's successor, John Henninger Reagan, was not a military man, and knew that this couldn't go on, and sought a more concrete peace agreement. This was achieved at the Treaty of Philadelphia, signed on 19th May 1876, and the ensuing period of peace and subsequent Southern development became known as 'Pax Reagana'.

In the West, San Diego became an important trading port with the Far East and USA cities further north. The heartland of the Confederacy was still largely put over to cotton, still worked on by slaves, but with improvements provided by the British. As a result, the need for slaves became less, and they were either sold on, liberated under the pretence that they would enter work and accommodation immediately, sent back to Africa, or in some unfortunate cases, killed in large numbers. Slavery was still legalised, but it was reduced to the habit of the large farm owners and the ultra-wealthy urban industrialists. Slavery would eventually be ended by President Lyndon Etheridge in 1919.

The government made no attempt to hide this - it openly and regularly encouraged black migration elsewhere, but appreciated it could not force them out. By 1920, the black population of the CSA lay at around 1.5 million. By 1939 it had dropped to just over 600,000. The Second World War saw slightly more CSA involvement - CSA naval vessels fought with Japanese forces in the Pacific and had a limited role in land engagements in Europe. CSA Air Corps units ran bombing runs from air bases in Britain, whilst the 4th Alabama Battalion was famed for its 76-hour hold-out against two panzer divisions in the Ardennes.
The 2nd World War showed many in the South that they could not remain uninvolved in global politics, and for the first time in the CSA's history, a candidate from a party other than the Democrats won the Presidency - President Jonathan Oakes for the Southern Progress Party. He increased relations with the AU and New England, as well as the European powers. He made the first sole-Confederate declaration of war in 1956 when Cuban forces sunk a CSA Cruiser in Havana harbour, and the Cubans were dispatched reasonably quickly, but the island was never occupied. Some saw this as a mistake, as anti-CSA sentiment quickly grew on the island again, supported by shady communist agents. A bomb in Richmond which killed a number of civilians and a Congressman in 1960 was blamed on Cuban revolutionaries (or Northern-supported black insurrectionists), and increased desire to see Cuba invaded and captured, but the Democrats held onto power until 1964, when eventually the tide shifted and President Edwards was elected, on a ticket of Cuban intervention and liberation.

The government made no attempt to hide this - it openly and regularly encouraged black migration elsewhere, but appreciated it could not force them out. By 1920, the black population of the CSA lay at around 1.5 million. By 1939 it had dropped to just over 600,000. The Second World War saw slightly more CSA involvement - CSA naval vessels fought with Japanese forces in the Pacific and had a limited role in land engagements in Europe. CSA Air Corps units ran bombing runs from air bases in Britain, whilst the 4th Alabama Battalion was famed for its 76-hour hold-out against two panzer divisions in the Ardennes.
The 2nd World War showed many in the South that they could not remain uninvolved in global politics, and for the first time in the CSA's history, a candidate from a party other than the Democrats won the Presidency - President Jonathan Oakes for the Southern Progress Party. He increased relations with the AU and New England, as well as the European powers. He made the first sole-Confederate declaration of war in 1956 when Cuban forces sunk a CSA Cruiser in Havana harbour, and the Cubans were dispatched reasonably quickly, but the island was never occupied. Some saw this as a mistake, as anti-CSA sentiment quickly grew on the island again, supported by shady communist agents. A bomb in Richmond which killed a number of civilians and a Congressman in 1960 was blamed on Cuban revolutionaries (or Northern-supported black insurrectionists), and increased desire to see Cuba invaded and captured, but the Democrats held onto power until 1964, when eventually the tide shifted and President Edwards was elected, on a ticket of Cuban intervention and liberation.
