I'm a very picky fanfic reader with veryhighunreasonable standards for quality, so I don't read as much as I could. But goddamn, when you find one of those fics that's a true gem, it is so worth slogging through all the crappy ones to find it. I tend to avoid most shipping fics, mainly because I tend to prefer staying reasonably close to the source material, and a lot of shipping fics are... painfully divergent from canon.

Some are actually a lot of fun to read. I've even read a lot of well done shipping ones.

Oh man, TVTropes fic recommendations can be a serious godsend when I've got a hankering for something to read. I hate having the itch to read something, and having to slog through the FFN or AO3 listings in the hopes of blundering on something decent.
'Course, the sheer volume of badly written fanfiction is precisely why my sister and I run a fanfiction writing workshop at Fanime and some SoCal conventions. Because if you're going to tilt at windmills, you might as well have fun doing it!

I take recommendations almost exclusively from TV Tropes. Hallelujah and thank fucking Christ. The Republic of American Freedom wrote:Luke and Leia. Chewbacca and Leia. Jabba The Hutt and Leia. Darth Vader and Leia. Looking for Star Wars fan fiction is like going to a hive of scum and villainy.
Right. I'll be over there, throwing up everything I've ever eaten.
Honestly, if you're looking for Star Wars fanfic then you're better off just going to the EU. You'll never run out of material, and it's all edited to not be completely terrible.

Got any good LotR fics? I've looked through hundreds of them and they all suck except the ones written about Ainur and the Valar as far as I can tell.

Anyway, yeah, I've written a couple and they were decent, a few for the Elder Scrolls, one for the Walking Dead (specifically the comic/game, not the show), a couple for GTA: San Andreas, and I think I did one for Onimusha. I'm considering doing one for a particular rather obscure anime, Kodomo No Omecha, that's I'm now watching again for the third time in a row. As for reading them, well, you're poll gives good reasons as to why I generally don't trust anything with 'fanfic' attached to it.

Trust me these were the worst pairings in the community I could dig up from what I've read and I myself am pretty depraved. If you know hot to find it good fanfiction is relatively easy to come by. I've watched Kodomo so when you finish your story feel free to post it here.

Wow, legitimately never talked to anyone else who's seen it. Anyway, I haven't even begun, so I wouldn't hold my breath. I might start it soon though if there's actually people out there that know about the show.
