It took you a while to realize that you were truly alone in this world.
And when you did, you almost had a nervous breakdown. That morning you had awoken to an empty household, and you stared at the vacant spot on your bed where your significant other should had been with confusion. The radio and television only made your anxiety worse, as you got absolutely no signal from either of the godforsaken machines. The silence that had once peacefully surrounded you now grew overwhelming, and what had seemed like some sort of strange dream morphed quickly into a nightmare.
Panic-stricken, you frantically searched your hometown for hints of human habitation, any signs of life, but your hasty efforts bore no fruit. And as the sun set on that first day, you would soon learn that you were truly, hopelessly alone.
. . . . .
Saint Louis, Missouri
Months have passed now, or at least you figure so. The last time you had checked a calendar it was August 1, 1969. You continue to wander, hither and yon, raiding supermarkets in order to keep starvation at bay. You try to keep your head up, but holding a good spirit becomes harder and harder, as each day that goes by seems more and more like the last, and you begin to wonder if it’s even worth it to push on anymore. But...something seems to move you forward. Perhaps it is a feeble hope that manages to push its way through the crushing doubt, the hope that one day you will find another living person. Whatever it is, you manage to stay alive and keep moving forward.
Your weary feet have brought you to the outskirts of St. Louis, Missouri. The Gateway to the West. A once vibrant city now reduced to an empty, eerie ghost of its former self. As you stare off into the derelict skyline, you realize that you don’t know exactly what you are looking for out here, and the thought of turning back permeates your mind. However one thing is certain as you take a deep breath and put one foot in front of the other:
You are very, very far from home now.
Hello! My name is Ava Ire, and this is Far From Home, a role-play that serves as sort of a tie-in to Too Long Gone, which was created originally by the former nation of Osoechor. This is my very first role-play on NationStates, so I'm pretty excited to share this!
This little RP will be about the last remnants of humanity, the few lone survivors of an unspecified disaster that resulted in the sudden disappearance of 99% of the human race on August 1, 1969, and about how they will interact with each other while trying to survive. The social element will play a big role here. The reason why humanity vanished is unknown. However, the story will focus more on the experiences of the characters, which will be created by you of course.
