Nerds Rescue The City! (OOC, Always Open!, Sign ups)

Postby Galnius » Sat Nov 21, 2015 9:58 pm

Hiya everyone! It's me, Galnius! Today I present to you a rather odd RP that I hope you all will enjoy. I bring to you Nerds Rescue The City! Now, an overview and beginning story.

http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=362017 IC

In the city of Mandralin, people go about their daily lives as daily folk tend to do. They go to work, gossip, and idolize and demean.

However, something new is occurring. Those once scoffed at, the nerds, geeks, and overall dorky, all seem to be developing a new ability, the ability to enter movies and video games. Whether this is all due to their big brains of braininess, or the fact that the water here glows is up for debate. Nonetheless, for the part few months, it would appear that this is exactly how quite a few of them spend their time.

It is not all fun and games, though. Recently, they all seem to have received a cryptic message from the same voice, whether it comes out of the movie hotter they are trying to court, the odd animal-like companion, or from the chair they were sitting on. The message, is this: "Tumonucack is coming. The glitches are rising. Hurry." They were then all given watches, which will be explained later.

Now, the nerds are faced with a choice. Either continue to goof off, or try and get down and dirty whilst trying to discover what Tumonucack is. Of course, their is a choice, but morris dancing stark naked under a bridge fails to appeal to the general populace.

Important information!

EQUIPMENT
Equipment is very important to the nerds, as you are only as good as you inventory.

Starting Inventory
1. Mysterious watch. This watch tells time, both in the real world and in the games. It also doubles as an alarm, and can send messages and alerts you of missions you can take on. More on missions later. It also holds pauses (for movies) and saves (games).
2.4000 dollars. This translates directly into the currency of the fictional world. You can get more by taking jobs or doing missions.
3. Purse/satchel. A very important item. This holds the rest of your inventory to ungodly amounts, starting with being able to hold 20 items! (Except giant items, which takes up 5 spaces). This can be upgraded.
4.3 movies and 2 games of your choice. These you choose at the application.
5. One, and only one, of these choices.
A. A blank VCR with the writing QUE on it: This item allows you to edit the world of a movie, but only once per person.
B.5 Pokeballs: not only good for pokemon, they can also catch weaker creatures...for a dice roll.
C. Mega Endurance Lifesaver candy (1) Allows you to survive a normally deadly occurrence, which would knock you out of the media.
D. Mommy Romances Special Jerky (large bag): food source and great bargaining chip
E. Logistical Wonder Pen: writing and transforms into a sword when in media.(customizable)

All of the above can be bought...for a large price

Other Equipment! Pretty much anything and everything is useful in some way

MISSIONS AND JOBS

Jobs: Random people throughout the city and media will have low paying jobs for you. Ideas welcome. Just verify it with me first.

Missions: This is what you will get on the watch. The difficulty rating will be between 1 and 6. The higher the number, the bigger the pay!
Examples: A mission ranked 1 for 100 dollars could be something like "get a pokemon from oak". A number 6 mission, which starts at 4000, could be something like "Enter the maze from Maze Runner and clear out theGrievers. They are getting to be a nuisance." All missions further your characters plot in some way.

SAVES AND PAUSES

For each movie or game, each person can only have one save/pause. Furthermore, if there is a save/pause from someone else on the EXACT media source you are using (a dvd or a cartridge or a disc, etc.) Than you will be entering the workday affected by the other people who have made the save or pause. This could mean that you may water a world to get a pokemon from oak, only finding him beating a dragonaire with a stick because he ran out if pokemon and he wants to restocked his collection.

To save/pause, one simply enters the menu from his/her watch. You CAN save over a save. Same with pauses.

You get one freeware or pause at the beginning of the RP to start with. Aka, you can start In the middle of one of your movies or games.
SKILLLLSSSS
The most important aspect, skills. There is six. You can have a total of 10 skill points to any skill. Anything below 5 gives you a negative to rolls requiring the skill, having it above gives you a boost. These skills can be amped with items or by successful training. They can lose points by actions that go against it. You have 30 points to spend on your application.

Skill 1: Fight Sequence! This skill is your basic combat ability.

Skill 2: I'm So Scary! Intimidation skill.

Skill 3: Weeping Openly! This skill is your ability to be pathetic and make people want to help you or leave you alone.

Skill 4: Freaking Badass! This skill deals with awesome, which might make people idolize you.

Skill 5: I'm a shneaky Ninja! Stealing and stealth

Skill 6: Too Sexy For My Shirt: Your Allure.

Each skill can be helpful, and may be needed in certain situations.

Power Limits!

Your ability to enter a movie it a game comes with limits. These are listed here.

1. You are not a main character unless you used an item to make it so.

2. One day limit (24 hours) in each media at a time. That's 4 days IRL.

3. If you die in the media, expect to be violently sent out of the media. You will be unable to enter for 12 game hours (2 days irl).

4. You are bound by human needs like eating and water. If you don't have these for 2 game days, your character will flat out die.

5. You are unable to hack the media. In other words, you are bound by the limitations of all normal characters, only being able to barely outmatch the main characters at full power.

[b]DICE[b] For any action involving the skills, I (or a co-op) will roll a 16 number die. 9 or higher is success.7 or lower is failure.8 is neutral. You get a bonus for your skill if it is above 5, a penalty if it is below 5.

Non-skill actions have no penalties or bonuses, and the difficulty will determine what you need to succeed.

There are many free actions, you only need to have me roll for something difficult or skill related.

YUP! I figured I'd give plenty if money as you can fly through 4000 REAL quick...especially with what things cost in games.

How long should the backstory be? Also, what am I supposed to put in 'free save/pause'? Is it if I want one or the other?

The backstory should be about a paragraph. As for the free save/pause, you pretty much put what you have and where, and the scene around which you stopped at (time wise). For example, Pause, The Scooby Doo Movie, Castle scene. Anything different about the world from you being there (if anything) should also be added.

3. 10

5. 0
6. 10
EQUIPMENT CHOICE: 5 poke balls
BACKSTORY: Since Jade was little, she watched My Little Pony a bit more often than most normal children would. She also played with Barbie dolls with her friends, which was normal at the time. However, when she got older, she was expected to act more mature and ditch all of that, which troubled her. She didn't want to be that girl that still plays with Barbie, but she didn't want to give it all up entirely. While she got rid of the dolls, Jade still played the Barbie and My Little Pony games as a guilty pleasure. Recently, Jade purchased Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 to put on top of her stack of kiddie games to hide the games she actually plays.

When she's not playing video games, Jade watches superhero movies as often as they come out. She likes them because she admires people that stand up for what's right and fighting for justice, while also looking fashionable in their costumes. Superhero films remind her that, despite all the people that would laugh at her lifestyle and disapprove of her being a nerd, there is still good in the world. The movies inspire her to stay in shape and practice karate, hoping that she may one day get the chance to be someone's hero.
CHOICE OF MOVIES/GAMES OWNED:
Games:
My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic
Barbie as the Island Princess
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
Movies
The Man of Steel
The Dark Night Rises
FREE SAVE/PAUSE: The Dark Night Rises, Bane and Batman first fight scene

How powerful of an animal can I get with a pokeball? I was planning on capturing Rainbow Dash from My Little Pony. Would that be fine?

With a pokeball, y6ou would need to roll extremely high in a non-skill roll (ill add those to the OP) to catch something above grunt status. For Rainbow Dash, it would have to be a 13 or higher. 9 or higher would be failure but Rainbow wouldnt be anything more than annoyed. 5 to 8 means she is angry and will likely attack you. 4 or below means she will try to kill you.

What would I need to roll to capture Batman? What about a nameless SWAT officer?

Nameless swat officer is a free action. Batman would be similar to Rainbow Dash.

Would Batman still kill me if I get a low roll? He does have that no-kill policy.

Nah, but he may just beat the crap out of you and throw you in prison :p Which would then mean everytime you went back there he would recognize you as a villain if you saved/p[aused after this occurred....

Hmm, maybe I'll try after Bane beats up Batman. Then he'll be in no condition to fight.

Wait a second, all the prisoners are freed in that movie. So I guess that means I have nothing to fear?
