Welcome to signups for International Baseball Slam X: Tenth Edition. Interest has dwindled recently, so unless there is a reversal in that, this will unfortunately be the last IBS. However, this is your chance to SAVE THIS TOURNAMENT. Sign up, RP actively, and prove this is a tournament worth having. If you do that, we will keep it around.

Host bids are welcome, and this is a good chance for nations to host their first event, though it is not recommended you bid unless you have at least some experience RPing in this subforum. Hosting previous events is by no means a prerequisite, but at least participating and actively RPing so you get a feel for how things work probably is. Your bid won't be rejected as long as it includes all required information, but bids by brand new users are unlikely to win.

To improve RP quality, puppets are FORBIDDEN for this event. There is only one signup permitted per user and this may be enforced through puppet checks requested by myself or the eventual hosts, through GHRs, if necessary, as per the NS Sports Puppet Rules. As an exception, the host(s) may, at their discretion, request numbers puppets after signups have closed in the interest of getting the tournament started quickly. No puppets may sign up until then, even conditionally, or they will be ignored and the additional signups possibly reported as spam. For clarification, a user is permitted to signup a nation other than their main, but is not then permitted to sign up their main nation as well. You get one signup. It doesn't have to be your main, so it can be a puppet in that sense, but you only get one.

The host bid deadline is set for Sunday, October 25, at 8:30 PM Monday, October 26 at 6:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time (UTC-4). I was initially going to give you a week, but now you have most of an extra weekend to put a bid together as well. After that, we will vote on hosts and then the tournament will be turned over to the host(s). Signups will remain open through the end of the host voting, but any nations who sign up after host voting starts are ineligible to vote, as will the bidder(s). (Edit: Deadline extended due to San Llera's late bid to give you time to ask questions.)

Schiltzberg

Baseball has always been the national sport of Schiltzberg, but baseball fans were majorly dependent on foreign leagues to sooth their baseball pleasures for the early decades. Several baseball leagues cropped up in Schiltzberg in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, but none of them survived for very long because they were not able to compete with the much more established leagues in other countries, and the primary reason for that was lack of funding. The most successful of these leagues were the Schiltzberg League (SL), which lasted from 1901 to 1909; the Professonal League of Baseball in Schiltzberg (PLBS), which lasted from 1951 to 1968; and the Schiltzbergian Baseball Association (SBA), which was started in 1969, but folded due to lack of funding in 1997.

Grand Duke Lucas, an avid baseball fan as he was, was intrigued by the collapse of the SBA, and wished to create a new, more dominant league in Schiltzberg to compete with the foreign powers. In 1999 he had stadiums built in nineteen cities throughout Schiltzberg, and he chartered a team to each of the cities, and two to the national capital of New Schiltzbierg, to make up what he called the National Baseball League of Schiltzberg (NBLS). The first game was between the New Schiltzbierg Grand Dukes and the New Schiltzbierg Prime Ministers on March 31, 2000, in Royal Dome, which they shared at that time. Frenline Delpha

Frenline Delpha is a democratic nation that celebrates heavy freedoms and a small wealth gap. The economy of Frenline Delpha is heavily industrialized but incredibly efficient. The tax rate is high, but the cost of living is low. All religions are accepted and you can find at least 20 different religions in whatever city you are in. Many cultures are represented in Frenlinian cuisine. If it exists in the multiverse, you can probably find it here. We plenty of travel options throughout the city, from taxis to travel busses for teams, to busses for tourists. We also have rental cars. Take a stop at one of the several scenic relics from ancient bloodbenders in the capital. There are even decorative fire hydrants, painted by local youth expressive artists. Most of our available hotels are at least 3 stars, and they come quite cheap. Plus, our currency is valued at .62 theories ({) for 1 NSD. If you are low on money, we also have high quality motels that offer free breakfast and wi-fi.


Group Draw

The group draw will use pots to sort the participating nations into the required number of groups. The pots will be sorted by seeding and then alphabetical ordering. The group draw will be announced over a Chatzy, that I will link to later, should this host bid win. Speaking of required numbers:


Format

All games will be held at the respective host nations. There will be a double round robin group play to start the tournament. Then, we will be doing two double elimination, 4-team tournaments, with the winners advancing to a *Saintland-style* best-of-7 championship. The plan allows for any amount of teams, from 16-40 teams. If we get at least 30 sign-ups, there will be a Saintland-style best-of-5 elimination round before the double elimination tournament. One double elimination tournament will be scorinated by Schiltzberg while the other is scorinated by me. There will be two SEPARATE double elimination tournaments. The double elimination format will be as follows (Home team listed second):

*Note*: Saintland-style playoffs are scorinating two games in one day. Basically, the IRL time stays the same, the IC games are the only thing that changes. So, a Saintland-style best-of-7 would have games 1 and 2 the first day, 3 and 4 the second day, 5 and 6 the third day, and 7 the last day. It allows for a longer IC tournament, while maintaining a similar, if not slightly shorter, IRL schedule.

Scorinating Method

We will be using version 0.3.3, using the NSFS formula, unmodified. This does display linescores, but in keeping with NS Sports unwritten rules, the linescore will not have to be followed. As a note, you don't have to follow the linescore if it does something impossible, such as the home team winning a tied ballgame in the 9th by scoring five or more runs in that inning.

There will be a Roster bonus worth 5 points, and all participants have the ability to earn two days worth of RP bonus before the first match-day, including the Roster bonus. The RP grading will be five points, with quality being taking into account well before quantity. RPs will be cumulative, and RP bonus will reset to the beginning rank plus roster bonus after the group stage. If tie-breaker games are needed, the RP bonus for that day will only count for that game. In the case of bye days, the RP will go towards the next played game. If you commit a violation of your opponent's RP, be it contradicting what they say or violating their RP permissions, then you will lose 20 RP points. Your RP bonus + rank can't go below 0. If it does, the bonus will still be set at 0. However, it may take you a few days of RPing to get it back above zero.

Ok. I will be the Schiltzberg Schiltz Burgers again and my trigram will be SCH. I'm pretty sure that the dude that used SCH previously isn't participating, but if he is, I'll go with SZB again. I think that is the one I used last time. IC: If you didn't know, Schiltz Burgers is a food chain in Schiltzberg, and they had to pay heavily to get their name on the national jersey.
