Would you rather live in Soviet Russia under Stalin or Nazi Germany under Hitler?

Personally, I would live in Nazi Germany rather than the USSR, just because the soviets killed more, and I am personally a part of groups the Soviets targeted, but not the Nazis.

Well, Nazi Germany. As bad as they were, from what I understand they weren't that bad to their people (except for, you know. Persecuting anyone who they didn't like.) And the fact that i'm close enough to the Aryan ideal, I think it wouldn't be too bad. Better than being cannon fodder for the Soviets, i'm sure.

...Nazi Germany. If only because odds are that I'll have a better education than the average Soviet citizen of the time period and can probably still bail the fuck out to America or Canada or perhaps even just Switzerland before war breaks out.

If the assumption goes that we must stay in the chosen country until the war's done and over with, however, I'd have to pick the Soviet Union provided I get to be in Vladivostok.

Given the disastrous outcome of Operation Barbarossa, I'm not sure if cannon fodder for the Nazis is a better choice.

That has a great deal to do with my racial background as I'd at least make first degree citizenship if not full blown Aryian and the fact that Germany was more modernized in general, whereas perpetual misery would be ensured regardless of class in Stalin's USSR.

Personally, I don't fit in to one of the many reasons which the Nazis would kill me for. The Soviets on the other hand, I'm sure Stalin would want to kill me.

Not that running into the NKVD would have been a lot nicer, but I'd rather take my chances by wriggling around the finer ideological points of Marxism-Leninism instead of trying to prove that I don't have a Jewish grand-grand-grand-grand-father.

Or, put another way, which foot do I want to shoot myself in: the left or right?

I suppose I would shoot the right foot; Hitler's Germany. Not only would it not last as long, it actually was not that bad a place to live prior to the war except for a minority of people. I am white, male, and not mentally ill so I should survive long enough to reach the war. I am of age and am physically able to fight so I would find myself in the military. The only real issue would be surviving the war.

Conversely, I would either starve to death under communism in Russia or likely die from those three in four odds of mortality fighting in World War II. Even if I somehow managed to live through the war, Russia is still a miserable communist police state.
