Go crazy, but don't kill Lord Almighty Gregory. However, expect reciprocation if you injure/kill my players. Also, if you mention my country in an RP but don't call it by its full name (i.e. "Gregoryisgodistan" without any special formatting in the middle) please TG me to give me a heads up.You don't need to wait for permission and I might not even reply. I often search for my country's name so I can respond to RP's more easily, but if you don't mention it by name, that doesn't work. You can also mention it by name in an OOC note somewhere in the RP instead of TG'ing me, since then it will show up in a search. If for whatever IC reason you decide to strike the "isgod" in the name of the nation, as in Gregoryisgodistan, that will not suffice as notification as it will not show up in the search. In that case, TG me or mention my name without the strike either IC-ly or OOC-ly somewhere in your RP. If the formatting effects the whole name (i.e. Gregoryisgodistan, it will still show up in search, so you don't need to do anything else.

Actor 81248D8J is well-known for playing Doybert on the hit TV show "Costa Lunians Say the Darndest Things"..... Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel comes from a long family of Enemy Crusher goaltenders, most of whom have been executed or murdered for crushing.... Enemy Crusher Krushallah Krushsaintland is the fattest enemy crusher at 830 pounds.

[spoiler=uniforms]Dark:

We will wear dark uniforms for home matches. For away matches, if our opponent wears a dark uniform, we will wear white. If our opponent wears white, we will wear our dark uniform.

What's a Pervert Chaser? Sounds inappropriate.
A pervert chaser is someone whose job it is to chase down those accused of sexually-related crimes, like mooning, nudity, indecent exposure, rape, and molestation, and cut off their private organs, then bring them in for trial, sentencing, and either a fine, slave labor, or execution depending on the offense.

What's a Horse Beater?
One form of entertainment in Gregoryisgodistan is where a Horse Beat beats horses with all sorts of torture devices, like whips, maces, pepper spray, and machetes, until the horse dies a horrible painful death. It is like rodeos, only more gruesome. These horses are randomly caught in the countryside by Horse Snatchers, then sold to Horse Recruiters, who bring them to the Horse Beating Show.

I'm from a country with sapient ponies. Should we be afraid?
Our laws prevent sapient beings from being beaten, but also define sapient beings as humans or intelligent extraterrestrials. So alien ponies need not worry. Earth ponies, on the other hand, could theoretically be caught, but as long as they do not roam the countryside with wild, non-sapient ponies, they should be fine, since horse snatchers typically do not look for horses in hotels or hockey rinks.

What's an Enemy Crusher?
Enemy crushers are very heavy Gregoryisgodistani government agents whose job it is to crush and torture criminals to get them to reveal information. They almost always kill the criminal. Enemy Crushers at the World Bowl and World Cup of Hockey, among other tournaments, crushed to death numerous fans, referees, and opponents. They were then rewarded by the Gregoryisgodistani government.

Should I be afraid?
Just don't anger an Enemy Crusher and you'll be fine.

Which players like to fight?
The pervert chasers, prison guards, and slave beaters are very prone to fights due to their violent professions. Additionally, the Enemy Crushers have been known to crush opposing players, referees, or spectators. This often results in their deaths, much like what happened at the World Bowl. Nobody other than Enemy Crushers are capable of killing anyone, though pervert chasers carry their private-cutting knife with them at all times, and in the event a player, coach, fan, or spectator commits a sexual-related crime during a hockey match in Gregoryisgodistan, they will cut off their privates in the middle of the match. It might even happen in road matches. This will be very painful. So basically, don't indecently expose yourselves and you should be fine.

Willinglsey Arena opened for World Cup of Hockey XXV and was the creation of Lord Almighty Gregory, God of the Multiverse. It seats 9,500, with room for an additional 570 fans of the visiting team to be hung from the rafters. No other visiting fans will be allowed in the arena.

Image

Please refer to players by their full name at all times. For instance, our starting goalkeeper should be Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel and our left wing should be Weatherman 92UDH9111. This follows the typical Gregoryisgodistan naming format, which is title and government ID number, except for government VIPs which are title and name. Use both at all times. Do not just say McFattel or 92UDH9111.

The demonym is Gregoryisgodistani. The ice hockey team is nicknamed the Ice Slaves, and you may use this nickname.

Elejamie were famously one of the Cinderella teams of the last tournament. After starting their campaign 3-0 with a couple of interesting 3-0 victories over Tsartsaroth and Kaboomlandia, they then had a mildly disappointing 4-4 draw with Prusy Krolewskie. However, they managed to turn things around with the moment that put them on the ice hockey map: The legendary 6-5 win over then-#3 Havl (not the first time the Icy Elephants upset the hockey giants as, in WCoH26, the two played to a 4-4 draw), which also set a record as the most watched event in the nation; just over a million people (roughly half the population) tuned into Puck Drop (which was airing the match live), with a further 150,000 listening to the match on Radio Elejamie and 25,000 people watching the match on various webcasts. A 2-1 win over San Jose Guayabal cemented their position as the first team from the Ko-oren half to go through to the next round, which was then followed by a 5-1 victory over Nassau-Hessen. They then beat Arkiasis 3-2 in game one of the Round of 16, which was then followed by a 3-1 win in game two. Unfortunately, the clock struck twelve thanks to a disappointing quarter finals against eventual fourth-placed Novaya Zemlya, losing game one 1-0 before bouncing back in game two thanks to a win by the same score, eventually going out game three with a 2-0 loss. Despite this, the team still received a warm welcome home.

And now they're back, hoping to expand on their good result last time (and maybe even take the trophy home). The staff and the starting team are the same as last time. However, as coach Madgwick decided to cut down the list of scratches to six, a good chunk of them are fresh faces. Returning from WCoH27 is Pracibamian defenceman Neil Cuevas, who replaced George Lincoln on Line 2 in Elejamie's opener against Tsartsaroth (even assisting the opening goal; a shovel shot by Cerin Meloten) and Alejandro Rubio Orosco, who played in game two of the quarter finals against Novaya Zemlya. Mike Keller and Rafinho, who didn't see any action, also returned as they were part of the gold medal winning inline hockey team at the Multiverse Games. However, there are two newcomers, both of whom took part in the eighth World Junior Hockey Championships in Quebec (where Elejamie came fourth, losing their semi-final match against the hosts and eventual winners, followed by another loss to Nova Anglicana): Goaltender Pedro Cervantes, whose uncle Antonio is the starting goalie; and tough guy Bill Judge, whose father Mark was a notable boxer during the 90s/early 00s.

Declan Madgwick Memorial Stadium, Davenport, WYKN
Image

Home to the Davenport Dockers - the most successful team in the ENIHL (Elejamian National Ice Hockey League) - and the national team. Built in 1992 to replace Dockside Stadium, which was eventually demolished in 1995, Davenport Stadium is the largest ice hockey stadium in Elejamie, with a capacity of 18,500. The stadium was originally known as the Davenport Stadium but it also spent a brief spell in the early 2000s as the Rapid Beer Co. Stadium. Eventually, it was renamed the Declan Madgwick Memorial Stadium just in time for the start of the 2015/16 season, in honour of famed politician and diplomat Declan Madgwick (1927-2015).

HomeFiller Arena, Coventry, AVEN
Image

Built in 1989, the HomeFiller Arena is also known as the Coventry Arena, especially in situations where HomeFiller isn't sponsoring the event in question. With a total capacity of 17,000, it is also home to the Coventry Puffins; the backup stadium for the national ice hockey and basketball teams; home to the junior and U-18 ice hockey teams; and home to the Coventry Nets basketball team. It entered a sponsorship deal with furniture store HomeFiller in 2013. The deal is expected to last until 2017.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose My Scorers: Yes
Godmod Scoring Events: Yes
RP Injuries to My Players: Yes (but nothing too serious; the longest they can be out is one match. Killing is definitely out)
Godmod Injuries to My Players: Yes (same as above)
RP Penalties for My Players: Yes
RP Ejections for My Players: Yes (the longest they can be suspended for is one match)
Godmod Other Events: Depends on what it is. Fighting I'm OK with but it might be a good idea to TG anything else.

  • "Keh-reen Mah-loh-tahn"; "Payl Eh-tah-nahr"; "Ah-lah-YEHM Mahn ees-hoh-kee teem".
  • In the event that any of my players interest you and you want to sign them, please tell me which one you want and which club wants them. However, Anatoly Kasputin signed a two-year extension with the Coventry Puffins, Aaron Andrews has recently moved from Ðuß Patrós Heiðeer Yßhokkï Unðaß in Praciba to the Edgebaston Shamrocks, Pedro Cervantes has joined the Ángeles de la Playa de Rocas' senior team and Bill Judge has also moved to the Edgebaston Shamrocks' senior team. So those four players cannot be bought.
  • Please get back to me with RP info by 10pm BST. Otherwise, I'll go ahead and put my own stuff in.
  • Francisco Solano is the team's main enforcer. So if my team is up against yours and you want to put in a fight, see if you can fit him in somewhere. If he's unavailable because of a line change or him not playing a match, then Lupe, George Lincoln, Carlos Sierra, Paul Morton, Ethan Swinburne, Pael Atener, Mike Keller and Bill Judge (who was Elejamie's main enforcer during WJHC8) can be used instead.
  • It's "Rubio Orosco". Not just "Rubio" and not just "Orosco". See below for why.
  • Again, Pedro Cervantes is Antonio's nephew. Not his brother or his son. Using the traditional Spanish naming custom (father's surname followed by mother's) it's Antonio Cervantes Nakamura and Pedro Moreno Cervantes.

RP Notes
There is one professional hockey league in Neu Engollon, the NEHL. There is also a strong collegiate tradition in the sport. The Ibex are pulled from a mix of both the Collegiate League and NEHL. Many of the stronger players for the Ibex come from Burgunden University or the Ciavno Jackals, the top NEHL team. Many have called for the return of Head Coach Le Houne, as they are disappointed with the last two Cup performances under Head Coach Liu Qiang An and Assistant Coach Siegler, who were recruited from the Avatarrian and Aquitaynian programs, respectively. The Ministry of Athletics has given them one more season to get the Ibex past the group stage.
TG me with questions if you got some, especially about GE&T or PMCs.

San Llera World Cup of Hockey Roster

Name: San Llera
Trigramme: SAN
Nickname(s): The Swagfish, the SanMen
Head Coach/ Great Leader: Alejandro Llano
Assistant Coaches: Martini Corval, Alejo Beto
Style Modifier: +0.65

Line #1
Forward (Center) - Alafair Wickerson - 30 years old - A naturalized overseas player with plenty of brains but not much brawn
Forward (Right Wing) - Guamo - 26 years old - Incredibly fast skater but lacks in other areas
Forward (Left Wing) - Ricard Millet - 33 years old - All-around, the best player on the team, excels in pretty much every area
Defense (Left) - Macedoni Noell - 24 years old - An aspiring thug
Defense (Right) - Marco Sicilia - 20 years old - Very talented but sometimes makes youthful mistakes, also somewhat thuggish

Line #2
C - Mantequilla - 32 years old - The player named after the word for "butter" (???) is like Serrato from Line #3 in that he is great at shielding the goalie, only not as large at 6'3", 230 lbs. But age is on his side.
RW - Adam Maura - 28 years old - Lacks skills or much athleticism but is hardest worker on the team
LW - Josep Maria Pruneda - 26 years old - Focuses a lot on defense for a forward
LD - Raul Perrita - 29 years old - Dirty, and known for his trash talking
RD - Octavio Barbera - 28 years old - Sometimes strays too far offensively

Line #3
C - Tomas Serrato - 36 years old - At 6'7", 270 pounds, he is likely the largest player the the tournament is therefore excellent at screening the goalie
RW - Artur Maura - 28 years old - Twin of Adam, has similar traits
LW - Oscar Artiga - 31 years old - Somewhat of a "puckhog"
LD - Dionis Almuerzo - 33 years old - Best offensive defenseman on the team
RD - Joan Benet-Mayol - 28 years old - Does nothing significant, which can be good for a defenseman

Line #4
C - Ignasi Mato - 30 years old - Excellent slap shot, which is the main only reason he's on the team
RW - Goncal Marines - 35 years old - Incredibly dirty player, spends most of his time in the penalty box. Incredibly durable for his age
LW - Xavier Gotay - 34 years old - Another of San Llera's incredibly dirty players
LD - Antonio Maratato - 21 years old - Energetic young player who is everywhere but never does much when he's there
RD - Lluis Mascaro - 32 years old - Rounds out one of the dirtiest lines in this tournament

Goalkeepers
Aaron Viola - 29 years old - The starting goalie, he is good but not great in all tangible measures of a goalkeeper
Prosper Virella - 23 years old - Would be an excellent goalie if he wasn't cursed with a 5'8", 170-pound frame
Quinne - 28 years old - Good but too conservative for his own good

Team Preview

Offense: The offense is mostly back from last year. GM Garrett Hanson mostly tinkered at the edges, adding mega-prospect Zack Murray as the fourth line centre to help get more offense out of a bottom-six that was terrible last time out. The top nine haven't been changed, but Maxime Coderre emerged as a first-rate checker.

Defense: The Kings' defense only got better the year. Hanson emphasized size this year and got it, adding Derek Strachan as a second-pairing fixture. The huge defenseman, who made news earlier this season by moving to Elejamie to play for Avon, has a great upside. Playing with cagey vet Kevin Bore will only help his game. Scott Herndon and Patrick Clooney round out the top four, while intriguing D-man Casey Lindsay and international newbie Tyson Nash bring up the third pairing.

Goaltending: The Kings appear to be set for the present with Dylan Brady in net. The hulking goaltender can block out a ton of the net just with his six-foot-six frame. He plays the positioning excellently. If he falters, Lyle Mace is still starter material. Daniel Dawson replaces Shawn Weber, who retired after last season.

Special Teams: The personnel that ran the Kings' lethal power play last year is all there. Unfortunately, the architect isn't. Power-play coach Paul Saxton bolted for Novaya Zemlya to coach their junior team, and his absence will be felt. Can Walt Kreider pick up the slack? On penalty-kill, Maxime Coderre proved he's a force when shorthanded.

X-Factor: The Kings' even-strength offense was popgun at best last year. Only Dylan Brady and a lethal power play kept them in games. Can the 5-on-5 improve?

Coaching: Frederic Allemande and assistant Michael Myers return. Allemande will be on the hot seat after the Kings' abysmal performance last year. If the Kings flame out again this year, expect heads to roll at the top.

Choose scorers: Yes
RP scoring events: Yes
Injure my players: TG first
Godmod injuries: No
Penalize my players: Yes, don't go overboard
Suspend my players: TG first
Godmod anything else: No

Team Kazirstan plays a rough, in-your-face game game. Expect lots of checks, penalties, a few fights, and a lot of dirty plays in general. They won't give you an inch.

The first line will score a fair few of the goals. Captain Fedor Dallman and left-winger Viqtoriya Aktovosq are fast, agile skaters with accurate shots and impressive puck handling skills, while right-winger Talgat Tereshchenko is a heavy hitter with a thundering slapshot. The second line is the speed line. Semyon Nikulin and Danis Mironov are small and fast, and will resort to hooking, tripping and slashing instead of checking. Behind the Dallman and Aktovosq, expect these two to score the most goals. The third line is the goon line. They'll play dirty and draw a lot of penalties. Expect injuries if this line is played a lot. Viktor Shibanova and Nikolai Poluektov in particular are built like (gridiron) football players and like to fight and hit hard. The fourth line is a more versatile line. Maria Gazinsky and Nik Emelin are lighter, quicker players while Jasur Musaev is more of an enforcer.

Kazirstan's biggest strength lies in their superstar goaltenders, Pavel Yuldashov and Tatiyana Portnyagin. Most goals scored on them will likely be because of lucky bounces or defensive screw-ups. That's not ruling out the occasional bar-down-top-corner-glove-side or greasy garbage goal, however.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose My Scorers: Yes
Godmod Scoring Events: Yes
RP Injuries to My Players: Yes
Godmod Injuries to My Players: Yes (no deaths, please)
RP Penalties for My Players: Yes
RP Ejections for My Players: Yes
Godmod Other Events: Yes

An Interview with Derek Strachan

Tonight, ahead of the World Cup of Hockey 28, one of our reporters, Brett Fox, caught up with Kings defenseman Derek Strachan, who made headlines earlier this year by signing a free agent contract with the Avon Stars of the Elejamie league. Though Strachan only turned 18 four weeks ago, he moved over to Elejamie shortly after his 18th birthday, practiced with the team, and played in four games, scoring two assists.

BF: Derek, would you consider yourself a pioneer by going international rather than staying in the KIHL?
DS: No, I wouldn't think of it that way. I just thought it would be the best for my career, and I was happy they (the KIHL) changed the rules to allow people to go over.

BF: Do you feel pressure as a second-pairing defenseman in your first pro-level international event?
DS: Yeah, I guess I'm a bit nervous. You get that out of your system once you get playing, though.

BF: What do you think of Avon so far?
DS: It's definitely an adjustment. Living by the sea in Avon, it's a big difference from Galturin, where everything's in the mountains. I like it, though. A little smaller than Galturin, though.

BF: What does your team need to do to win games?
DS: I think we do a great job of moving the puck. Possession is everything in this game, and we've got the power forwards. Dylan (Brady)'s doing a great job back in net, and we need to do a better job of protecting him.

BF: Thanks for this, Derek.
DS: No problem.

The TDS Quick 'n' Easy Guide to the 28th World Cup of Hockey

We all remember that one moment from not too long ago. But what would you say was "that moment"? Was it the time we vanquished the legends? Was it the time when we managed to earn our rightful place in what was to come? Was it the time when we managed to easily dispatch our opponent to make it through to the quarter finals? Or was it the Gofrerazo, followed by El Redentor, followed by the standing ovation given to the Novozemlyan players at the end of game three. Whatever it was, everyone came together and cheered their team on. Even when their run came to an abrupt end and they had to return home, they will received a warm welcome, with high hopes that the next time will be the big one.

Yes, it's that time again, ladies and gentlemen. The World Cup of Hockey is back in town for its 28th installment and, for the first time since the 24th edition, it will be held entirely in one country; although WCoH26 - which saw Elejamie's debut - was mainly centred in Quebec, there were matches played in Gregoryisgodistan, Vermark, Nova Anglicana and a slew of other nations. And, this time round, that country is Valanora. Ranked 13th in the world, just one place behind us, the Calcuttas have been a powerhouse at the competition for quite a while. Not only coming away with three World Cup of Hockey wins, winning the seventh, eighth and seventeenth cycles of the tournament, but are also two-times gold medallists at the Winter Olympics. However, they were [in]famously dumped out of WCoH27 early, with losses to Skarosbrekka and eventual group winners Novaya Zemlya, not to mention a 2-2 draw against Frusennia (who eventually finished fourth), they finished the tournament in third place with ten points, just behind Feministvs Sanctvsterra. So they're looking to bounce back from that and regain their position as hockey heavyweights.

Image
Aaron Andrews, seen here for his last season with the Davenport
Dockers (2011/2012) before his move to Praciba, has recently
returned home to Elejamie with the Edgebaston Shamrocks.
And what better way to begin than with our opening match against Quebec? On the one hand, Quebec aren't so much tough cookies as they are rock cakes, as they have some of the best hockey players in the world. In fact, during the last tournament where they were going in #1, they had won every single game in Group C. They even managed to beat us 4-3 in a friendly before that tournament, a match we were surprisingly dominating as, going into the third period, we were 3-2 up thanks to two from Meloten and one from Kasputin. And, finally, our biggest defeat in history was an 11-2 thrashing to them all the way back in 1969; despite having the cream of the ENIHL crop, including Du, Kevin Deal (known as Kevin Dalziel at the time) and Ed Peak, it wasn't enough to fend off a superior in almost every way Quebec.

But, on the other hand, Elejamie has managed to slay the Quebecois giants on numerous occasions. For a start, there was the 3-2 win during the 9th World Junior Hockey Championships in Vermark, with Stacy Saunders (who is not only half-Quebecois through his father Danny but is currently playing with the Kingston Knights, the team his father Danny played for at the beginning of his career) scoring two goals and assisting the other, which was scored by Matthew McBain. But, most notably, there was the Elejamie Quebec match on August 26th, 1995, best known as the "Miracle of Davenport"; after going down 1-0 in the first period thanks to an unassisted Danny Saunders goal, Michael Madgwick put two into Quebec's net in the second, which was then followed by Sumio Kitahara scoring an empty netter in the third, resulting in a legendary 3-1 victory that, to this day, is still considered Elejamie's hockey Magnum Opus. And how can we forget what happened after Group C, where they stumbled in their series against Group D runners up Nova Anglicana, before eventually collapsing to co-hosts and eventual winners Gregoryisgodistan in the quarter finals. So yes, although this one could go either way, I still see a Quebecois victory.

After that, we have the Unified Sunrise Islands. Over in the Gregoryisgodistani portion of the last tournament, they were in Group A along with the hosts, Vermark and the United States of Devonta, among other nations. Although they lost 4-1 to Devonta, 4-3 to Vermark and 3-0 to the Ice Slaves, they did beat Persalilangan 2-0, Gregory Llama Land 7-2 and San Llera 5-0. However, they haven't always been this bad. In WCoH21, they knocked out the hosts before losing to Gyatso-kai in the quarter finals. In WCoH25, they came third in their group, just missing out on a spot due to goal difference; Zenic went to the next round in their place, eventually making it to the quarter-finals where they went out to the co-hosts Quebec. So, while we might face a little difficulty with these guys, it's probably nothing to worry about.

On day three, it'll be a Group H reunion as Elejamie will face Kaboomlandia. Back in Ko-oren, the Icy Elephants defeated the Kings 3-0, thanks to goals from Anatoly Kasputin, Cerin Meloten and James Han. And, indeed, while Elejamie were dominating the group, Kaboomlandia were pretty much struggling throughout, losing all but one match; their sole non-defeat being a very impressive 9-1 victory over Tsartsaroth. But, then again, no one expected The Sword Bloke, who crashed out in the Group Stage in WCoH26, making it to the round of sixteen in Gregoryisgodistan, losing their first game 2-0 and their second 4-1. Not to mention that the Kings have got Derek Strachan, who's actually making some big waves in Avon, where the staff decided to stick him in with the seniors for a change, which turned out to be a great idea. He's even managed to assist two Han goals; the first in his debut against Playa de Rocas (although the Stars did lose 4-2 in the shootout, resulting in a 3-2 (SO) victory for the Angels) and the second in the match after, a 6-3 victory over newly-promoted Blackport.

The penultimate group stage game will be against the Transalpine Republic. Although they weren't present at the last tournament, they did take part in the 26th World Cup of Hockey. They were in Group H, where they won all but two of their games; a 2-2 draw with Soviet Canuckistan and a 5-4 loss to eventual group winners and tournament runners-up Gyatso-Kai. Indeed, Soviet Canuckistan and the Transalpine Republic were essentially level, as they had both won four, lost one and drew one, finishing with 9 points. However, it was the Transalpine Republic who would be making the trip home, thanks to goal difference; fortunately for them, Soviet Canuckistan didn't make it too far, losing both of their Round of 16 games to Vilita and Turori. Still, I don't see any problems with the Icy Elephants here.

And, finally, we have a match against the only unranked team in the group: Infinitzerland. Not much is known about them at the minute. We don't know about their squad. We don't know much about their staff. And we don't know much about the popularity of ice hockey in their nation. All we know is that this should be an easy one.

So, where do I think we'll end up? Second or third, to be honest. On the one hand, we should be able to fend off the Unified Sunrise Islands and the Transalpine Republic. Kaboomlandia will probably be an easy game. Infinitzerland definitely won't cause us any problems. However, our biggest challenge is definitely going to be Quebec. There's no denying it. And it's our opening match too, which will probably end up making or breaking us. If we pull off the upset, then it's safe to say that we should probably cruise through the group with little to no problems. Should they upset us, then we'll need to win our all of our remaining games to stand a chance of making it through to the next round.

Are we missing something? Oh, that's right. Our old friends Havl who, surprisingly, aren't part of our group but, rather, over in Group C which, from the looks of it, will be the Group of Death for the tournament. I'm not joking, they'll be up against Novaya Zemlya, who famously eliminated us from the last tournament in the quarter finals; Ontorisa, hosts of the U-18 IHT; and Natanians and Nosts, who may be new but are definitely not to be underestimated. Fortunately, it shouldn't cause any problems for Coach Donndelinger and the team; they'll be able to bounce back in style and breeze through the group stage without breaking a sweat. And if it isn't Coach D, then I hope that, not only will his successor will do a damn fine job but also he'll be able to get back on his feet (if he hasn't already).

Either way, I'm sure as hell that it's going to be an exciting tournament. Will the Icy Elephants prove to the world that they are hockey legends? Or will they end up proving that the last tourney was a fluke? I guess we'll have to wait and find out...

Notes

The players on this team previously competed at the Games of the VIII Olympiad as the Feministvs Sanctvsterra Field Hockey Team. There, they won 2 matches and drew another in the group stage and defeated Darmen in the Round of 16 before falling to Valanora in the Quarterfinals. They participated at the 26th World Cup of Hockey and went 1-3-2 in the group stage, finishing 4th in their group. At WCoH 27, they went 4-1-1 in the group stage, playing under their real names for the first time. They advanced to the Round of 16 and were knocked out by Zenic.

Now that the group has been legalized in Saintland and established themselves as a political party, they use their real names and are able to compete on home ice officially representing the Kingdom of Saintland.

NEPHARA NATIONAL ICE HOCKEY TEAM
Style Modifier:
-1
Home Stadium: Whitewater, Treason (12,000 capacity)
Home Kit: Emerald green jerseys, black pants, white trim
Away Kit: Terracotta jerseys and pants, green trim
Nickname: The Gulls
Captain: Lilith Beresford

Ice hockey's honeymoon in Nephara is drifting to a close - a poor showing at the World Cup last time around, and league attendances are slowly deflating. While it has made its presence known and established itself as Nephara's second-choice sport, it is second-choice by a frankly staggering margin, and has to fight regularly to avoid being shoved into obscurity by association football. A strong World Cup will reclaim some of that momentum, and Kearney feels like he finally has the tools for the job. Given that the sport was only professionalised six years ago, this might be a touch optimistic, and the bookmakers are not exactly behind this claim. Still - the Gulls have enough in them to beat the teams they should, set a few noses out of joint and go out respectably in the knockout rounds.

Tactics
The Nepharim don't have many technical players in their ranks, but they are an intimidating physical prospect to face, bonded by an indomitable team spirit that transcends club and state rivalries the moment they pull on the green jersey. They play to their advantage, backing themselves in defence and striking hard and decisively on the counterattack, relying on star centre Beresford (and Devante, her backup) for a creative spark.

STAFF
Manager - Aristide Kearney - Age 47
Assistant Manager - Jane Hawthorn - Age 42
Aristide Kearney, a rough Southerner who lead state league club Riverside to be the dominant team of the capital before being picked up by Sabrefell United and leading them to victory as well, was the obvious choice for the Gulls. He's been commended for showing none of the Southern favouritism that those in the hockey heartland of the Northwest feared, and with that concern out of the way Nephara is left with a fierce, determined man, a born leader, who will stop at nothing to see Nephara triumph. Hawthorn played under him before injury ended her career at 33 - she has a natural genius intellect, a talent for biting sarcasm, and a personal relationship with the game's more violent side.

GOALKEEPERS
G - 1 - Ronan Steiner (HC Treason) - Age 31
G - 7 - Aidan Madden (HC Maximum) - Age 28
G - 13 - Evangelos Tsatsimas (Chenoworth) - Age 22

Steiner has been the Gulls goalkeeper since the start. A dependable veteran, he has consistently been the best goalkeeper in the league by a remarkable margin. He won't let you down. Madden offers the same dependability with maybe a little less talent, while Tsatsimas is a far less reliable emerging goalkeeper - occasionally spectacular, occasionally dropping massive clangers.

DEFENDERS
First Pair

D - 2 - Tanith Starbuck (St. John's Celtic, QUE) - Age 27
D - 8 - Sigrid Carrick (Acadie-Bathurst Titan, QUE) - Age 31

Second Pair
D - 3 - Rudolf Bournemouth (HC Treason) - Age 34
D - 9 - Sigrid Holden (HC Maximum) - Age 26

Third Pair
D - 14 - Felix Nemeth (HC Maximum) - Age 24
D - 15 - Promise Okocha (Chatswood) - Age 23

Defensive Enforcer
D - 22 - Tomas Desmond (Northern Vale) - Age 25

Starbuck and Carrick are the true stars, deemed good enough to find vastly more lucrative contracts at the higher standard of the QHL. Starbuck is lightning-quick off the mark and uncompromising in the challenge, with Carrick a disciplined all-rounder. The veteran Bournemouth is a defensive bulwark who should combine well with Holden's pace, while Nemeth and Okocha are late bloomers getting better by the season. Desmond was a part-time nightclub bouncer until signing his first full-time professional contract two years ago, and currently has a suspended sentence for assault.

FORWARDS
First Line

C - 4 - Lilith Beresford (Halifax Tempest, QUE) - Age 33 - Captain
RW - 5 - Markus Guildenstern (Sabrefell United) - Age 27
LW - 21 - Cath Scannell (Kingston Knights, QUE) - Age 27

Second Line
C - 19 - Esther Devante (Sabrefell United) - Age 24
RW - 11 - Theodora Rutherford (Vermillion Glory) - Age 27
LW - 6 - Olenna Farham (Vermillion Glory) - Age 30

Third Line
C - 16 - Reinhard Matheson (Cranequin Rovers) - Age 29
RW - 17 - Syrene Leijer (Northern Vale) - Age 28
LW - 12 - Athena Tsicaderis (Northern Vale) - Age 22

Fourth Line
C - 10 - Emery Kincade (Vermillion Glory) - Age 28
RW - 20 - Seth Rosencrantz (Laith United) - Age 27
LW - 18 - Franziska Hamann (HC Maximum) - Age 25

Attacking Enforcer
C - 23 - Rebecca Dean-Wheaton (Macambre River) - Age 27

Beresford remains captain, stalwart as ever and with the same eye for playmaking as she's always had, but she's slowing down with age and this might be her last World Cup. Devante is a creative and inventive playmaker, never short of flair and imagination, but Matheson and Kincade are fairly mediocre. The wingers tend to be bold, quick but lacking a little in technique, Guildenstern and Scannell the best of them, but there are some very high hopes for young Tsicaderis. Dean-Wheaton is a gouger.

“Ahh, that’s some fresh air they’ve got here in Valanora.”

“Surprisingly, it’s not just you begin overly happy, Henri: the air here really is fresh,” replied Lynda as they walked towards the arena. They had been in New Citium the last week and a half doing some press conferences and other media appearances to promote the national team and the World Cup of Hockey. The air was filled with the exhaust of the thousands of cars that drove through the street and cigarette smoke from people walking in the street. It wasn’t something a small town resident like Henri Giehl or a country girl like Lynda Tawfeek were accustomed to at all. But here, even in the cities, the air seemed to stay as fresh and clean as out in Valanoran countryside.

“I could get used to this. But I guess that’s enough daydreaming for now; guess it’s time to get to business,” Henri said, as they arrived at the arena and he held the door open for Lynda to enter. Once inside, they headed towards the rink to catch up with the team. Half had already started basic warmups while the other half did stretches overseen by the team doctor, Dr. De See.

Tawfeek pulled out her tablet and opened up a file on their first match day opponent: Cosumar. She looked it over as Henri walked out onto the ice to lead the practice session. She noticed the Cosumar team like to go on the offensive and how they had marched their way up to become the 8th ranked team in the world. At the last WCoH, they had made it to the Quarterfinals before losing to the Equestrian States, similar to how Zenic had lost to the runners-up Esparmuran in the Quarterfinals. They certainly got a tough game on the first match day, which was a definite. However, everything after this match appeared to be much less stressful. The team could focus on winning this game without worrying about having to sacrifice the chance to win any of the other games.

Tawfeek continued to look over the data as Giehl lead the team in preparation for their opening matchday colossal clash with Cosumar.

TOKAI PANHANDLE AGRICULTURAL & MECHANICAL STATE UNIVERSITY? WHERE? NICOLE NORTH? WHO?

TOKAI, TORISAKIA - As most people are aware, the media guide for the Torisakia national hockey team that is participating in the 28th edition of the World Cup of Hockey was released a few days ago. Inside it, a full roster was posted. One player in particular, a 19-year-old female named Nicole North, was listed as a starter. Among the information listed about her was the university in which she played for, Tokai Panhandle Agricultural & Mechanical State University (or Tokai Panhandle A&M State, for short). A quick Internet search shows that this university does not even exist. Of course it should be obvious considering there is no panhandle of the Tokai city district. The closest related university to this is Tokai A&M, located nowhere near the "panhandle" of the city district. So why would they listed a fake university in the media guide? And where exactly did Nicole North come from?

Turn out, Nicole North herself doesn't even exist (well, she probably does. But she doesn't play for the team). The entire right-wing forward spot on the first line was used as a placeholder because Twyla Roijackers, the former right-wing forward, had to leave the country at the last minute and therefore a spot was open on the roster. So instead of Mark Bilbo assigning the starting position to a backup, he decided to just use a placeholder spot and then decide who would start when the first matchday came, and come up with some sort of explanation as to why a female isn't playing right forward. Bilbo was confronted about the issue yesterday in a media briefing and responded with "No comment," and asked for the next question. Early this morning, Bilbo took to Twitter to clear up the conspiracy, saying that Nicole North "is real" and for anyone who doesn't believe him to fight him "irl" and calling them homophobic slurs. No mention of Nicole North has been made by players or other coaching staff, and she remains in the lineup for matchday one accorrding to TSPN.

Either Wade Jephson or Rob Toone are expected to start at right-wing forward for the game against Valanora, who also happens to be the host of this edition. Both have been playing in the Torisakia Hockey League for over ten years with their respective teams. Rob Toone has earned All-Star Game honors six times dating back to 2002, and Wade Jephson was named MVP of the Carter Cup in 2013 when Gulfport won their seventh championship. Some sources have indicated that both Jephson and Toone will share the starting position for matchday one, and Mark Bilbo will make a decision on the full-time starter after the game. TNN says that Bilbo will continue to list Nicole North as the starter, standing his ground that she's real on terms of "I'm super cereal, guys!" and having either Jephson or Toone wear a custom jersey with North's name and number on it while dressing them in a wig and putting makeup on them. Or forcing them to get sex reassignment surgery. Whichever he finds is cheaper.
