It has come to my attention that NSG hasn't had any recent general thread on vehicles. Considering they play such a large role on our society, I thought I'd make such a thread come to life.
So for all of you aviation nuts, car enthusiasts, train supporters, naval freaks and the like, here is a thread for you.
What form of transportation/vehicle/machine fascinates you?
Lately I've been interested in steamships and ocean liners from between the 1890s to 1940s. The ocean liners from the turn of the century era seem thoroughly modern when compared to the rest of society still relying on horse power and buggies. It's fascinating to see just what kind of technology the late Victorians were putting out. The SS Great Eastern, launched in 1858, was a marvel in engineering and construction, and remained the largest ship in the world for many decades.
As for aircraft I am a fan of strategic bombers, with the B36 and B52 being my ultimate favorites. The B36 perhaps better defines the immediate post war period better than any other aircraft (it has both jets and props, c'mon!)
High speed trains and mass transit fascinate me, with the French TGV, and New York City subway being most interesting, respectively. The Union Pacific Big Boy is possibly the most remarkable train ever made.
