For our turtle King, it's one fluently and two on a conversational level. King Maven Outtacountry can speak at grade school levels of Japanese and Russian, but is not totally fluent, like he is fluent in English. He also hopes to learn the Tsao language and the Yue language in the future.

For our human ruler, King Gary Preach, meanwhile, are three. The King is fluent in Hebrew, has a conversational knowledge of classical and modern Greek, and obviously speaks English. He hopes to take courses in the Tsao language.

King Jesse Rod, our mushroom king, has impressively picked up the ancient "Mushlish" tongue, which is a language that mostly sounds like the English "aww" and "ahh" (short "O", like in "octopus") of varying pitches. Mushlish was the indigneous language of TurtleShroom's mushroom population, that was mostly replaced by Russian, and then English, after the humans arrived. Jesse also speaks English, of course! Jesse picked up basic Tsao when he communicated with them as an acting Regent. He also speaks broken, very early learning Japanese.


Until the mid-1800s, the heads of state were expected to be fluent in Russian. The rule was repealed after the formation of the Soviet Union in 1917 AD.

Since this post was written, King Maven Outtacountry (the turtle) has greatly improved his Japanese to the point that he is now "professional working profiency". This means that, while his native language's accent is still very thick and visible, he is still "able to speak the language with sufficient structural accuracy and vocabulary to participate effectively in most conversations on practical, social, and professional topics". This took him several years of intense studying.

King Gary Preach (the human) has always been a prodigy in memorizing languages, and, in addition to his previous knowledge of the languages, he can now speak Tsao at "professional working profiency" and is beginning to grasp the basics of Russian.

King Jesse Rod (the mushroom) has elevated his Japanese to the same standards as King Maven, and he has since mastered Mushlish as a native would. He serves as the government's primary translator to the mushroom branch of the Native TurtleShroomites.
