Circa 2137 A.D. The remnants of the satellite of Earth, once called the Moon, were not just mere remnants of an unfortunate planetary body that suffered a cataclysm of cosmic proportions. In its shattered pieces tell the story of humanity in the stars, a story with a past dark and frightening. There was once a time when man first set foot on worlds other than their home — first the Moon, then Mars. 150 years ago, mankind has set out to claim the Martian surface in the name of progress and of human achievement. However, when scores of human settlers left for the red planet, they came back as fanatics, thinking that the gods must have chosen them to lead humanity forward through a mysterious artifact called Aldnoah. We laughed and mocked in scorn when they declared these words.

However, we had no idea that what they had discovered was true. In fact, we would experience of ourselves the wrath of the gods.

More than a century ago, the Martians came back to Earth — not to reconcile with Terran humanity, but to substitute it. This Vers Empire waged a war with Earth on the Moon, which resulted in its current state. Earth and Mars were both forced to relent, for the cataclysms that befell them due to the destruction was so great — Earth lost many lives, the Versians lost their Emperor. 15 years later, Her Versian Highness was apparently assassinated, and the war resumed — this time with the Versians setting foot on Earth herself. Now the Knights had a justification for the blue planet's invasion. For two years we fought against them, until Her Highness had shockingly returned with a message for all: Earth and Vers must make peace. And they did.

Once the war was over, then Empress Asseylum Vers Allusia immediately set out to build lasting peace with Earth through the sharing of the ancient power of old, Aldnoah. Through this power, a united humanity had broken out of its home system and began to colonize suitable and habitable worlds — worlds of untold riches and resources, worlds of unspoken beauty – all colonized in the name of mankind. Prosperity and peace prevailed, and the cause of humanity grew. Perhaps, this is what the great Versian Empress dreamed — that Earth and Mars would exist in peace and harmony with one another, despite their differences.

Yet, like all good things, it came to an end. The bond that she envisioned didn't last forever.

The untimely death of Empress Asseylum had sent shockwaves throughout all of humanity's domains, and the bonds that had been so tightly woven between Earth and Vers began to unravel. The old hatreds that had been suppressed for nearly a century began to resurface among Terrans and Versians, threatening to divide humanity with an unreconcilable gap. It would be about time that another spark was needed to light the match to light the flames of war — one that would shake the very foundations of Sol to its core. Humanity will certainly show its dark side, but not in the way that most would expect. In fact, we may see us in our lowest. May justice be done, though the heavens fall.

Of course, I will be placing a little factbook-ish exposition of each of the factions in this RP.

The Space Race

---

In 1957, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics launched the Sputnik I, the first artificial satellite constructed by mankind. Fears that Russia may soon overtake them in this technological revolution pressured the United States of America to launch its own space program, with the establishment of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in 1958. That same year, the United States launched its own satellite, Explorer. This kicked off the Space Race that was participated by the US and the Soviet Union through several space expeditions.

Space programs that were worth special note during the Space Race include the Luna program, a series of Soviet probes that were launched to the moon beginning in 1959; the Gemini program, a series of twelve manned orbiting space missions conducted by the United States; and the first Russian and American manned space flights, conducted by Yuri Gagarin and John Glenn, respectively. However, the Apollo Program was the one that would change the history of mankind as it was known.

The first successful manned orbit of the Moon was achieved by Apollo 8, and the first successful Moon landing was achieved by Apollo 11 — where astronaut Neil Armstrong declared, "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind." And he was right. Five more Moon landings were conducted by the Apollo Program, which seemed to prove the superiority of America's space program over that of the Soviet Union's — therefore winning the space race to the Moon. However, the mission that will certainly alter the course of history would be Apollo 17.

The Apollo 17 mission took place in 1972, and was supposed to be a mission concerning the collection of rock samples from the Moon. However, the astronauts had found an alien artifact that NASA labeled the Hyper Gate. It was later found to be a portal that will allow humans to travel to Mars without having to travel by spacecraft — such a method of travel would cut travel to the red planet by 8 months. The Space Race ended when the US and the USSR — along with a few of their respective allies — combined their efforts to begin the settlement and colonization of Mars. This was dubbed the Ares Program.

Discovery of Aldnoah and the Vers Empire

With the colonization of Mars under way, people who were looking for opportunities signed up to become settlers of the red planet. However, life on Mars was hard, akin to the colonization of the Americas nearly half a millennium ago. Yet, this was not to be, for a certain scientist had stumbled upon Aldnoah, an ancient relic belonging to a long-gone interstellar civilization that existed 30,000 years ago, according to historians.

This scientist, Dr. Ray Rayvers, had activated Aldnoah by complete accident, and the activation factor of Aldnoah was engrained into his genes. This was because it recognized him as the successor and guardian of Aldnoah. Through this power he established the Vers Empire. The new nation-state existed in complete isolation from the nations of Earth, who still saw the colonies as theirs. During this time, the Viking Program was launched by the US to conduct experiments on the Martian surface. NASA was unaware of the Vers Empire's existence, and it was not until the 1980's that Vers made itself known to Earth and its people.

The Imperial house of Vers, headed by Ravyers — who was styled as Emperor Rayregalia Vers Rayvers — built an empire that primarily existed beneath the Martian surface through a neo-feudal monarchy dominated by lords and nobles. The Versian lords controlled their respective domains and commanded their own private armies, and were granted the Aldnoah activation factor from the Emperor and his immediate line. The population boomed, and food production couldn't keep up. As a result, many Versians were impoverished while the lords amassed much of the Empire's wealth and material resources.

In 1986, Emperor Gillzeria ascended the Imperial throne, and focused his efforts on developing Vers's industrial capacity. Technology advanced at a rapid rate, yet it didn't solve the inequality that was present. Oppression led the Versians to harbor discontent, initially against the royal house and its government. Fearing that the Imperial family may be overthrown, he directed their agitated sentiments against Earth, declaring that the nations of Earth were the cause of their suffering on Mars. They were indoctrinated that they were more superior to the Terrans, and that the Terrans kept the bountiful resources of Earth for themselves. This was setting the stage for Earth and Mars to one day clash.

1st Terran-Martian War and the Interwar Years

In the 1990's, due to decades of repression and economic crises, the USSR was dissolved — an event which followed a period of drastic change that took place across the Soviet sphere of influence. Communism seemed to collapse — save in China ,Vietnam and Cuba — and the United States became the dominant power on Earth. Through its power it became the world's policemen, enforcing a new world order that promoted peace and international cooperation. Yet, even its might was not enough to stop the events that followed.

In 1999, Vers forces passed through the Hyper Gate to begin their invasion of Earth, starting the 1st Terran-Martian War. This was implied as a declaration of war by Vers against Earth. Fierce fighting was carried out by both sides on Earth and on the Moon's surface. However, because Vers forces were pouring in from Mars to reinforce their ranks, the Hyper Gate went out of control and destroyed the Moon. This was called by both sides as Heaven's Fall. The resulting cataclysm wreaked havoc on Earth with natural disasters of an unprecedented scale.

Much of the Americas and Australia was lost to sustained bombardment from the Moon's fragments, while Africa and Eurasia were more intact. The fragments that broke off from the moon later settled at low-earth orbit, becoming the Lunar Satellite Belt. The orbital knights that were separated from Vers proper due to the destruction of the Moon became known as the 37 Clans. Because the catastrophe was so great, Earth and Vers agreed to an armistice which lasted for 15 years. The nations of Earth were rebuilding from the ashes of war, but yet the peace was to be shattered.

2nd Terran-Martian War

In 2014, Asseylum Vers Allusia — then Crown Princess of Vers and goodwill ambassador to Earth — was apparently assassinated by Terrans during a parade in Shinawara, Japan. Upon receiving the news of the assassination, the Vers Empire through the 37 Clans declared war once more against Earth, thereby breaking the armistice. In one fell swoop, major areas of the planet fell under Versian subjugation, thanks to Versian technological superiority. The fighting was even fiercer than the 1st Terran-Martian War, and took much more human lives.

Battles were being fought all over the planet, from Africa to Asia and the Americas. However, due to the tenacity of the United Forces of Earth — a force which succeeded the previous United Nations Peacekeeping Operations — the complete subjugation of Earth was delayed for the next two years, by which time the Terrans were already fighting back and liberating lost territories. However, a battle taking place near the UFE Headquarters in eastern Siberia saw the Versian Princess rescued by an Orbital Knight, who subsequently kept her safe within the Moon base.

The UFE and the Orbital Knights were fighting back and forth in the Satellite Belt as well as in certain locations on Earth. Asseylum served as a boost to the morale of the Orbital Knights during this time, yet the Terrans were slowly gaining ground. One of the Orbital Knights was gaining power and influence, and was undertaking a concerted attack on all of Earth with the 37 Clans coordinating their tactics to achieve this. However, the conflict was forcefully stopped by the Crown Princess, who succeeded the dying Emperor Rayregalia. Through this newfound authority, Empress Asseylum ordered that peace should be made with Earth.

Biography (not less than 2 paragraphs): Born in Manchester, his surname isn't actually Jovian but since he was left as an orphan and he didn't remembered his surname after a fire killed his parents, he picked up the name of Jovian, not knowing that Jovian is actually a name of a confederation on the orbit of Jupiter.

He entered into the service of the UEF, part of 7th British Kataphrakt platoon, and a pilot of Kataphrakt. He was a decent pilot with average military training, and yet he excelled at few missions due to his willingness to risked himself, as he practically has no family at all, though. After a mission in which the platoon came in contact with the Free Venus Movement however, he was left for his dead since his comrades at the platoon didn't actually cared at him and it became less caring to him since he's risking his life for the danger of the platoon.

His Kataphrakt was destroyed in the process, and he was taken as a prisoner by the Venusian. Feeling sympathized with the Venusian and feeling betrayed by his own comrades, and the UEF, he joined the Venus Movement, promoted to be a captain and became a hardened soldier.
