Mitt Romney: Progressive Politician?

We all know the platform that Mitt Romney ran on during the 2007 and 2011 GOP primaries. Restrict people's social freedoms, fight against Wall Street regulations, etc. But what I noticed while looking at his past record is that he was...actually quite the moderate.

- He instituted a near-universal health care system in the State of Massachusetts using a plan that resembles the Affordable Care Act.
- He closed corporate tax loopholes in order to balance his state's budget.
- He was pro-choice and very moderate when it came to social issues.
- He was an extremely effective administrator in a state where the legislature was dominated by members of the opposite party.

It truly is quite a shame. I would have been fine with someone of his complexion in the White House. But he had to pander to his base in the Republican Party.

There is nothing inherently good about moderation. Mitt Romney was never a "radical" anyways. He's a moderate rightist by US standards, which is a great example of why hewing close to a country's center is not inherently more reasonable or positive.
