A Brutal Rise

Your people inhabit the vast, but unforgiving Kalayaan Peninsula. Four distinct races inhabit the Peninsula, each trying to survive, and expand, though the Peninsula may soon only have room enough for one race. Between the militaristic High Eldar conquering or destroying everything in their path, the uniting Human tribes, industrious Orcasi, and illusive Low Eldar the Kalayaan Peninsula is turning into a powder keg on the verge of igniting. However, who comes out on top is rather uncertain.

The Bronze Age is in full swing, yet a new metal is beginning to make an appearance. Iron smelting techniques are just being discovered, so it won’t be long before bronze tools are a thing of the past. And with the many beasts that roam the Peninsula, and plague communities, they’ll need everything they can get before they can hope to rise above the other factions vying for power.

In this brutal world there can only be one, will it be you?

Tribe/town Name: The Haven of Caeleithel
Leader: Primarch Sarig Resdayn, the Morning Star
Main export(s): Bronze items, Horses, Crustaceans, Pelts, Precious Metals, and Jewelry
Notable citizens: Ovior Deltrimo
Isen Lanasari
Location on map: http://s24.postimg.org/m7ek5b7qb/Kalayaan.jpg
The oval is the main area, and the dot by the mountains is a mining area
Formation of Tribe/town: During the mass exodus of the Low Eldar the Eldar of Caeleithel decided that for the sake of their people that they must flee the fiery wraith of the Dragons rather than face it head on as their kin wanted. Thus, Caeleithel and several other towns banded together and left en-masse to the east. Along the way they met many hardships, and legend says that it took nearly a hundred years to reach their final destination. A great mountain that would keep them from the fiery holocaust that still plagued the lands around it.

Taking refuge within a great cave, those that survived the trek sealed themselves off from the outside world. With every passing generation a yearning to see their homeland again grew greater and greater, but it was decided that their kin could never defeat the Dragons for they were too mighty. So, they remained in their home of stone. After many years of mining and exploring of their cave, they eventually stumbled upon a nest of Goblins. At first the Eldar simply caved in that portion of the cave. However, after several years, the Goblins mined their way through the rock with murder in their hearts.

The Eldar fought valiantly with what they could muster, but they had few weapons for they had no need. They were forced from their home beneath the mountain, and thrust into a new world. A world free of Dragons. Rather than return home to their kin immediately, the Eldar settled themselves away from the mountain so they could recover and ready themselves for their return to the west.

That was some two hundred years ago, and they journey has not yet begun.
Government Type:: Monarchy
Primary race: Low Eldar
Population: ~15000
Military Strength: 200 Professional soldiers, and a militia that can be called upon for defense
Currency: A barter system intermixed with the use of precious metals that have been minted into crude coinage

Big Four:
Image
The High Eldar are a race of xenophobic warmongers. Tall, pale, pointy eared, and domineering, the High Eldar are by and large the opposite of their kin, the Low Eldar. Through cunning and strength, the High Eldar have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with on the Kalayaan Peninsula.
Average Lifespan: 250 Years

Image
The illusive kin of the High Eldar, the Low Eldar chose to migrate to the mountains to escape the fiery wraith of the dragons, whereas the High Eldar stubbornly refused to abandon their homeland. For this, the High Eldar look down upon their kin, and in some cases hate them more than anyone else. The Low Eldar have far darker skin compared to the High Eldar, and their eyes are more accustomed to less light.
Average Lifespan: 200 Years

Image
The Orcasi are a proud race of green skinned pioneers. Many of the recent revolutionizing inventions have been created by the Orcasi. Thus, most of the Orcasi nations of the Peninsula have experienced a new wealth of both riches and influence over their neighbors. The Orcasi are also the only race to establish regular contact with the Low Eldar Mountain clans, a major achievement in itself.
Average Lifespan: 120 Years

Image
Humans alongside the Eldar were able to kill off the dragons that plagued the land for many hundreds of years, and for the past three hundred years the skies have been free of any fiery menaces. However, after the destruction of the Dragons, humans went straight back to killing one another. Only in the past one hundred years have the human tribes been able to merge into cohesive city states and nations.
Average Lifespan: 80 Years

~Bestiary~

Trolls: Very large, physically imposing creatures with very low intelligence. Trolls are able to communicate albeit poorly. They are very territorial creatures, and many a traveler has been mauled by trolls because they strayed into their territory. Trolls typically live in small groups, but young bulls can often be found roaming.

Warg: Similar to, but larger than the common wolf, the Warg is a pack animal that is well known for hunting creatures two to three times its own size. With razor sharp fangs, and massive claws, the Warg is a dangerous animal alone, but as a pack they are a true nuisance. Some Human and Orcasi have found a way to domesticate packs of Wargs, and ride them into battle.

Dragons: Probably the most dangerous creature to ever roam the Peninsula, Dragons are exceptionally intelligent creatures. Mature Dragons can be anywhere from 15 to 25 meters in length, and their scales range widely in color. Dragons were the bane of all the major races until several hundred years ago, the Humans, High Eldar, and Orcasi united to kill or force every last Dragon from the Peninsula. For the last three hundred years no Dragons have been seen.

Goblins: Pesky little green nuisances that are violent and cruel by nature. Standing on average at three feet of height, they aren’t particularly troublesome on their own, however in swarms they can be extremely dangerous. Goblins typically live in dark places like caves, and congregate in clans. They can occasionally be seen raiding settlements or ambushing caravans, but more often than not they quarrel among themselves too much to actually come together in a cohesive manner.

Griffons: Large feathered creatures that roam the skies above the Peninsula, Griffons usually hunt in small packs, grabbing their prey, flying them high above the ground, then dropping them to their death. Griffons used to rival the Dragons, fighting them for control over the skies, but after the Dragons were all slain the Griffons flourished. While Griffon attacks aren’t unheard of, they usually give the major races a wide berth, something that likely spared them from the same fate as the Dragons.

~NPC Roster~

Orcasi factions

Guturos Vehede'-
Multiple small villages make up Guturos, all surrounding a tall stone fortress. Weapons are forged throughout the tribes as trade items, which are mainly exported to the Low Eldar nation of Edevest Gr'ahsten. In times of war it has "Recruited" groups of mercenaries and sold them, gaining a large profit. Most of Guturos' resources go into defenses and expansion efforts, though it is rarely outwardly hostile. Formed during the Dragon wars when multiple tribes joined in an effort to defend their land, it has survived for hundreds of years due to this defensive mindset.

Ehgevohst-
Ehgevohst is the name of a large town, though the small surrounding villages are often times considered a part of it due to their reliance on Ehgevohst for metals, gems and stone. Ehgevohst itself is made up of stone buildings, many built for extravagance. From a distance it might even be called beautiful. However, on the streets the mistreated buildings and generally unclean nature of the city is more notable. Due to the amount of resources put into mining operations, and the stubbornness of their monarch, near to no resources are put into the maintenance of the town itself. The villages situated around Ehgevohst, however, are thriving due to increased profit on the town's part. Despite the danger that the town may both literally and metaphorically fall apart, leaving the tribes without a mine or forge, and some without enough food to care for themselves, most tribes seem content to live in Ehgevohst's shadow.

Uderherm Varhstam-
The town of Uderherm is set to the northeast of what they have named the Varhst river. The woodland around the central town has been harvested for lumber, leaving a large swathe of open space and stumps. A twenty-four foot wall is built around the town, made to ward off neighboring villages and bandits who wished to prey on Underherm's citizens. Now most of these neighboring villages are under the protection and control of Underherm, though not all of them by choice.

High Eldar factions

Esterveden-
Previously a part of the greater Ostenveden, it has become a separate entity due to Gredeveden's secession. It managed to hold onto four small tribes during the secession, and has suffered less greatly than Gredeveden. Despite this, it is still attempting to regain the power it's lost over the peninsula, and has begun forming a coherent military. It has not been said where Esterveden plans to march, but it is almost a certainty among the other towns that it is planning an offensive.

Gredeveden-
Gredeveden seceded from Ostenveden due to rising oppression from what is now the Esterveden's government. Soon after the secession it started building up defenses, recruiting men and forging weapons and armor. Rumors vary throughout the towns as to why this is, but it wasn't altogether unexpected due to their being primarily High Eldar. The town itself is in a general circle, with the town hall located near the northern edge. It continues to hold three small tribes, but does not have the manpower to stop them from rebelling should they decide to.

Low Elder factions

Edevest Gr'ahsten-
Edevest was formed early in the Dragon war, when multiple Low Eldar villages migrated northeast, away from the bulk of the fighting. Over hundreds of years Edevest has grown from a small refugee camp at the base of a mountain to a large town carved from stone. Advanced farming techniques have allowed their numbers to grow impressively, with multiple villages being formed outside the 45-foot wall. Due to the lack of opposition within the mountain range, Edevest's military is very small, with the hope that the dangerous rocky terrain will slow or halt progression of major enemy forces, should any arise.

Human factions

Hekvest-
Hekvest began in a heavily populated piece of land, surrounded by hostile villages. Through cunning and ambush tactics, it managed to conquer villages one after another, eventually forming a cohesive army and metaphorically bulldozing it's remaining neighbors. Most of Hekvest's wealth is put into maintaining a standing army, but the remainder is sufficient to feed, clothe and house most of it's citizens. Due to it's expansive nature, Hekvest has incorporated many cultures and villages into it's nation, giving it the largest territory of the major powers.

Formation of Tribe/town: Formed when the tribes Raguna and OlzulZ'za merged, moving most of their resources to a resource-abundant river. Since then the town has grown due to the fertile soil within the valley.
Government Type:: Absolute Monarchy
Primary race: Orcasi
Population: 6093
Military Strength: 61 guardsmen.
Currency: Most citizens use a basic bartering system currently, but decorative wooden carvings have become more popular within the last year.
Additional History: Guzel has always been less wealthy and less notable then other Orcasi towns, but under the rule of UrAgun it has begun to expand it's reach to the nearby settlements in search for wealth. When Raguna and OlzulZ'za first formed Ngomstu Guzel, three major districts emerged; The northern district, where most of the Ragunans resided, the southeastern district, in which most citizens of OlzulZ'za lived, and a western district, where most of the shops and such were placed.

This is the sort of stupid story I'd post in an IC. Takes way too long to write and isn't worth it in the end, because it could have been summed up in fewer words. Instead, half of it is used to set a mood and the other half is flavor text.

Smosto gazed out of a slit in the wall, his hand loosely gripping the pommel of his sword. He thought he saw movement in the blackness outside, but he must have been mistaken. Relaxing slightly, he started toward the stairway that lead to the thin walkway atop the stone construction. He heard some Ragunans shouting in a tavern just down the street, which was one of the only sounds he would hear while on night watch. Reaching the top of the stairs, he saw movement again. It was very slight, and in his peripheral vision, but it was there. He began walking to the south side of the wall to get a better look. It might just be a horse, he said to himself. Overcome with a sense of dread, he slowly unsheathed his sword. He saw movement again, this time at the very edge of the wall.
Readying his sword, he began to jog towards it. The wall wasn't lit well enough for him to see what it was that had made it's way onto the wall, but it wasn't small enough to be some sort of rodent. He began going through the options. It could be a Z'zan that didn't approve of Guzel's creation. They were starting to pop up more and more, killing random Ragunans. Or it could be a Human bandit, here to steal flutes and-
Suddenly the short, green-skinned creature was mere feet from Smosto, it's short spear at the ready. He just managed to deflect it's attack with his sword, and took a step back. The goblin righted itself and quickly slashed Smosto's left leg, ripping through the trousers. Pain shot up and down his leg, causing him to trip and fall, landing on his back. He brought his curved blade up in time to block a downward stab from the Goblin, and catching it in the wrists. Pulling away violently, it clutched at the bleeding cuts for a moment. This gave Smosto time to push away, keeping his sword aimed at the smaller humanoid. It soon realized that the wounds weren't serious, and focused it's attention on the Orcasi. Still crouched, it began shuffling to Smosto's right, forcing him to the edge of the wall. It scanned him, looking for some weakness that wasn't his injured leg. Smosto kept his sword out toward the Goblin, waiting for it to strike.
It swung at his blade, knocking it to the side before bringing it's own weapon to his chest. Before he could react it had plunged the blade into his stomach, sending a shockwave of unbearable pain through him. In that moment he swung his sword backhand, catching the creature in the side of it's chest, causing a spurt of blood and a shriek of pain. He turned his head to see the creature writhing next to him, clutching at the wound in hopes of stopping the bleeding. After that, he blacked out, and a set of guards arrived to investigate the scream.

Well, I think I will go for classical alchemist faction (the search for immortality using element type, not the anime type)

App:
Tribe/town Name: Agagi Firza (Agagi is fine)
Leader: Kai
Main export(s): Herbs (Medical and poison) and various chemicals
Notable citizens: Ricka the Merchant, Agaria the Wanderer, Liza the Wise Woman
Location on map: Due to the tribe being somewhat nomadic, this is the point where they built a fort for rest.
Image

Formation of Tribe/town: Formed by those that were ousted from their own tribes and wandered around the land. Most of the tribe joined due to the tribe healing those who were beaten and left for dead.
Government Type:: Tribal council with the descendant of the founder of the tribe and a Wise woman as the heads of the tribe.
Primary race:Hoomans (humans)
Population: 173
Military Strength: All the able bodied tribes members are expected to fight if they have too. (50 men, 43 woman)
Currency: Barter, however the tribe prefers trading with herbs or services.
Additional History(Optional): Originally just a small group of Nomads, the Tribe of Agagi Firza formed when the tribe took in some twenty individuals that were ousted from their town for various reasons. Most of them were badly injured, some were even missing limbs. The tribe did everything they could do for them until they died due to not being able to keep up with their nomadic lifestyle. To make sure this never happened again, the tribe went to one of the places they migrated to during the winter seasons and built a small fort on top of a cliff face that had a small path (about 2 horse lengths wide) and could be accessed by the river.

Over time the Tribe expanded to be a fair size so they set up a more permanent settlement inside of their fort so that those who come to them have a place to stay while they heal and/or guard the territory. Although many would settle into the fort they always keep their Nomadic roots alive by having a small group looking for those who are injured or on deaths door. Although they are a safe heaven for those who search or get found, they are made up with quite a few people who are missing limbs and are generally not able bodied. Also due to this, those not able bodied devout themselves to the arts of alchemy and try to find ways to lessen the suffering of newcomers.

Aye. This'll do.
The name's James. James Usari. Well, my name is not actually James Usari, so don't bother actually looking it up, but it'll do for now.

Main export(s): Bronze and bronze tools
Notable citizens: Captain Fruro UzDasta(Stoneskin), Ullemo the Forge, Aanas the well-travelled
Location on map: http://i.imgur.com/ku9HGnl.png
Formation of Tribe/town: Ashasta Som is a town at the mouth of the Ghem River, where the blue desert waters pour into the sea. The houses and buildings are constructed from stone and sandstone, with wooden beams for support here and there. The town is surrounded by a wooden palisade and a ditch. Outside this palisade some works of agriculture exist, together with some form of early irrigation techniques. The town is surrounded by shepherds of goats and sheep, and some cattle. The river is frequented by small river-going boats going up and down the Ghem.
Government Type:: Elective despotism
Primary race: (Desert) Orcasi, which are more dark-skinned than their non-desert kin. Their hide is tougher to protect against the sun.
Population: 10.000
Military Strength: 100 kopesh-wielders, some 500 hunters who could serve as militia.
Currency: A barter system is still in full use, but salt is beginning to be used as a form of currency.
RP Sample: I believe we have met.

App:
Tribe/town Name: Tribe of Lilin
Leader: Nyx Zolis
Main export(s): Ore -- primarily coal, which is abundant, and precious gems.
Notable citizens: Nyx Zolis - the tribemother. The daughter of the original tribeswoman, who perished in a brutal fight. As the only daughter, she inherited the title and commands the small population with a fierce passion.
Ezra Zolis - the eldest sibling, five years Nyx's senior, who advises Nyx in many aspects of war and diplomatic affairs.
Jarve Zolis - the youngest sibling, two years after Nyx's birth, who hates living under his sister's shadow and strives to make a name for himself. He is one of the most ferocious fighters.
Ninne Zolis - Nyx's late mother, who is oft referenced by tribespeople as the tribesgoddess, whereas Nyx is sometimes called "young goddess". Mostly said by elders and those very spiritual folk.
Location on map:
Image

Formation of Tribe/town: It began when fleeing from dragons, a small gaggle of people gathered, and more and more took refuge within them, until the population rose to great heights as far as a refugee tribe goes.
Government Type:: Matriarchy
Primary race: Low Eldar
Population: ~300 or so.
Military Strength: The tribemother trusts very few with handling the protection of the small tribe. Amongst these people are herself, her brothers, her cousins, and those that have proven themselves through heroic efforts. In total, this is eleven people, but they utilize stealth and assassin methods that could rival an army.
Currency: Living in the mountains, what is found is usually valuable. Lazurite is the most common; it is brilliantly blue and is carved into very small circular shapes. It is called the 'lapuli'. Generally, one gold is worth five lapuli.
Additional History(Optional):
RP Sample: Unfortunately I don't have any role play samples, but I'll scrounge up an old story I wrote. Ideally, I like to write lengthy responses, but not an entire novel, and I enjoy putting exquisite detail and feeling into what I write. I do not go with the common way of writing "Harold: What are you doing, Bob? Bob: Oh, nothing much." I am much more into writing as if it is a novel.
Without further ado, here you are.
New York City, 2114.

In the futuristic novels back in the early 2000s, it was foretold that technology would advance beyond comprehension within one hundred years. There were predictions of devices that could physically do anything for a human; satires about the same. None of these predictions were entirely inaccurate, but at the same time, they weren’t entirely accurate, either.

In fact, in the year 2042, a device created by Tootle was released after over 20 years of development that could be implanted into the skin of humans. This device allowed people to go to sleep while their body did what it needed to do, such as go to work, clean the house, work out, or write a thousand page business model proposal. It worked using the thoughts ingrained in the human’s brain; everything they’d ever seen or said. So, you would think it worked well, and it did. For a short while.

As one would expect, that device took off. It was pricy but new versions continuously came out through new carriers, some were off-brand, cheap models, while others were top of the line technology. Every government employee in the United States was required to have one of those devices installed in their wrists after the device added a communication feature that was also run by thoughts.

This piece of technology was commonly referred to as an “EZ-LIVE chip”, but slang soon turned its name into ‘EZL’. As years went by and the device evolved, it became an oddity to not have a chip installed. Finally, in the year 2065, a new amendment was passed by congress stating that government officials had the right to connect to the devices of their citizens as a means of stopping crime and catching terrorism at its roots. The nation stirred with complaints of their privacy being intruded upon. Then a new bill passed, forcing all citizens to get an EZL chip installed. The president at the time was Hubert Casanova Brontwich and his team of merry men. Rumor has it that he paid a pretty penny to get them all into each branch: Judicial and Legislative. He used his EZL to rule the lives of the citizens of America until he died at age 2112 and his only living son, Julian Casper Brontwich, came to power.

By that time, most Americans had forgotten entirely what a democratic republic was. Those that didn’t forget formed an underground rebel society that removed each member’s chips before learning anything about it, so that the government was none the wiser. These members, upon removal of the chip, were considered dead. Thus, they could not be seen in public by anyone with a chip unless they wanted to get caught.
The society’s initiation process was not an easy one. Once you were a member, you either remained a member forever, or were killed. The society had what could only be referred to as spies. These talented individuals were skilled in remaining hidden while tailing humans whom they thought might be potential members. Once they have confirmed with the leaders of the rebellion, they poison their targets with an almost microscopic dart that knocks them out and messes with the memories of the EZL in their system. The poison usually lasts approximately two hours, which is just enough time for the spies to bring their target back to the hidden society’s many doctors, who perform a surgical procedure to remove the EZL from their new member. If the member wakes up and is considered a danger to the wellbeing of the society, he or she will be locked up for two weeks. If their mind is not set on being a member of the society, they will be injected with another poison that stops the heart within three seconds of going into the bloodstream. The deaths of innocents were justified by stating that those who would not join them were the drones of the president and that their fates were much kinder than what would have been done if they had let them back into the above-ground society without an EZL chip.

Killing new members was considered a time for mourning in the underground society. It didn’t happen often (particularly because the spies were great at selecting the right people), but when it did happen, a large funeral was held for the deceased where each rebel paid their respects and vowed to bring justice to the United States in their honor. Their names were engraved upon a wall of marble; the same honor given to the rebel soldiers and spies that died by the government’s hand.

On this particular day in May of 2114, the spies had captured a man two weeks prior that had shown signs of rebellious blood. When he awoke after the removal of his chip, he was frightened, as most were. But, he never calmed down. He was put into holding. Afore the sun rose, his blood was tainted with the poison that killed him. Today, rebels clambered to the funeral grounds between the hours of 10:00 am to 15:00 pm, where a skilled crafter could be seen etching a name into the wall of marble, and where candles encircled a stone coffin that held the body of their newest failed member.

Mothers wept. “He was so young!” they cried, holding onto the coffin as if it were their own son inside. A woman with long, wavy auburn hair stood off to the side in a black cloak with the hood covering her head, casting shadows upon her face. She was the commander of the rebel soldiers in the ninja division: Azelie Esmeralda London. Her face, if it could be seen, wore a scowl that had been stained with tears. Her heart ached. A burly voice came from behind her.

“Shame that we lost another one, isn’t it, Commander?”

Azelie was not surprised. She was the sneakiest of the sneaky, and had heard this man approach from a mile away. “It is.” she responded curtly. The one whom addressed her was none other than the one that was responsible for the injection of the poison into the failed man’s veins.

“You know. I spent all my time trying to convert him.” he spoke. “He was convinced that we were the government, trying to make him confess to things he hadn’t done. Trying to mark him as a criminal. Pretending to be rebels.” An un-amused laugh escaped past the executioner’s lips. “Even after dozens of us showed him where our EZLs used to be, and no longer were. We all had matching scars.”

Azelie turned to face the man. “He still did not believe?” She raised one eyebrow in curiosity. He shook his head. “He said it was an elaborate set-up. His exact words.” When the executioner finished that sentence, Azelie brusquely turned away and walked in the opposite direction, a manner that the rebels were all too guilty of, and all too used to. The executioner was no exception.

App:
Tribe/town Name: The Valkari
Leader: Hadras Numenshac, First Voice of the Stars
Main Export(s): Tin ingots, bronze tools, timber. The odd iron trinket is also highly valued outside the Basr.
Notable citizens: Highlord Avitus is the elected Citylord of upper Turkal, the mining settlement at the feet of the Mountains of Dawn. Highlord Jersum is the Citylord of lower Turkal, the plains settlement between sky and sea. Highlord Jakas is the Citylord of Don, the most northern hold of the Singing Folk.
Location on map: Can't edit images this moment, but the second River valley south of the western map edge, in the green.
Formation of Tribe/town: The Valkari, or the Basran Metropolis as the government body is called, formed out of the chaos of the Kin-Strife in the Years before Song. As the Basr has stood for a thousand years, little is known of those days, but legends tell of the Five Hundred and Gragn the Immortal whose voice could break stones, slay dragons, and even slay Ors. It was he who first gave Voice to the Contract, and Uttered the Stars, and his majesty and dignity united the warring clans into the Basran that exists in the present day.
Government Type: Elective oligarchy
Primary race: Orcasi, though other races are allowed to come and go as they wish as long as they keep the Highprince's peace, and small minorities of most races exist in the Basr.
Population: 14,840
Military Strength: The Lords of War, or Blackguards, are the fighting force and defenders of the Polis. They number only one hundred and fifty soldiers, one man contributed by each Hundred, but in time of desperate war the Heartguard may be called up, which theoretically includes the second son of every family.
Currency: The Basr's grain stores issue copper chits for the storage of foodstuffs, which have in recent years become a storage of value in the surrounding lands, as the granaries will honor a chit for its redeemed value as long as the food still exists, regardless of who holds the token.
Additional History(Optional): The Valkari, or Voiced, work seldomly with iron and steel in their sea-wind forges during the winter storms, but bronze is still far more popular.
RP Sample: Forthcoming.
