Saintland IC Information

History of Saintland

Saintland was founded in 966. Prior to that year, the island that is now Saintland was an uninhabited island in the World Changers section of Esportiva near the north pole. In the year 966, the Christian Church, which was still united at that time, held a now-forgotten Council. At this Council, they discussed some arcane matters related to Christology. There were 2 factions at this council that had irreconcilable differences. The majority faction are known today as the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church.

However, a small minority of Christian bishops rejected the decision of the Council of 966. Knowing that they would be persecuted for their beliefs if they remained, they left their homes and got on a number of ships. Their brothers and sisters, members of the nobility, went along with them. A Prince by the name of Paulus chose to go with them, because he believed they were right. They set out across the sea, praying that God would guide them to safety.

Somehow, they ended up traveling several thousand miles by sea, arriving at a remote island far to the north of their original homes. They were widely believed to have perished at sea. Soon, the very existence of the Council of 966 would be forgotten. The Prince would be crowned King Paulus I, the first King of the Kingdom of Saintland. Centuries went by and the Sanctii were able to keep their existence secret from the rest of the world.

Despite their isolation from the rest of the world, starting in 1038, the King's Government sent periodic expeditions to explore the outside world. They would inevitably return to Saintland, with information regarding what had happened since the last expedition. The explorers brought knowledge of new inventions back to Saintland. The King consulted with the Patriarch of the Church and they jointly decided which of the new inventions and innovations were worth adopting and which should not be adopted. This would prove to be very useful to the authorities in Saintland, as they successfully kept the Renaissance, Reformation and Enlightenment out of the Kingdom.

The policy of isolation would be ended in 1788. In 1825, King Josephus X decided to abolish the practice of serfdom. After breaking the power of the nobility, King Josephus X industrialized Saintland. However, Saintland never adopted laissez-faire policies and has only developed a barely modern economy. Usury laws remain on the books, intellectual property legislation remains non-existent and protective labor legislation was adopted very early on in the industrialization process. As Saintland industrialized, a special legal status called "foreign resident" was created, which permits foreign nationals to reside in Saintland and remain exempt from some of Saintland's laws.

Around 2 and a half years ago, Saintland began to take a more prominent place on the international stage, under the leadership of King Paulus XV. King Paulus adopted a new policy of aggressively entering international sports competitions in hopes of spreading the True Church around the multiverse and proving the truth of their faith through their performance on the field. While Sanctii athletes would begin to become fixtures in a number of sports and would particularly find success in soccer, gridiron and (especially) basketball, the mission of spreading the Faith proved much more difficult, due to the Church's theology, which still remained mostly unchanged since the Middle Ages. Thus, the King sought to bring major international tournaments to his Kingdom and eventually brought the most prestigious international tournaments in baseball, gridiron and ice hockey to the Kingdom of Saintland.

However, the life of King Paulus XV was cut short by an assassin. The assassination took place at the final of World Bowl XXII in the nation then known as the Free Republics. The assassin would later be identified as a Feministvs Sanctvsterra sympathizer who had killed the king over his staunch opposition to the foreign-funded radical feminist organization that sought to overthrow the Church. She would later be captured after assassinating a Consul of the Free Republics while attempting to assassinate a prominent member of the Republican Senate (OOC: In fact, she actually killed neither of them, but was an accomplice of the King's assassin and she was part of an underground group of assassins called The Brotherhood, but ICly this story is considered true and the truth is considered a conspiracy theory). His son Petrus, captain of the Sanctii National Gridirion Team, was crowned King Petrus XX.

King Petrus's reign as king has seen the King constantly trying to modernize Saintland, like his hero King Josephus X, but being thwarted by hard-liner elements within his Government and the Church. He was recently excommunicated from the Church and removed from the throne after attempting to institute a constitutional monarchy and is currently in hiding. Another notable event that happened during the reign of King Petrus was the mysterious appearance of Saintland in northern Rushmore. One night, the Kingdom was in World Changers, but they woke up the next morning and were suddenly in the region of Rushmore instead. So far, nobody has been able to explain why this event happened, but the Sanctii have since become a leading power in Rushmori sports and have made the semi-finals of each of the past 3 Copa Rushmoris.

Not too long ago, the King's brother Andreas usurped the throne while King Petrus was away in Electrum competing in the World Bowl. "King" Andreas, as the usurper became known, was the captain of the Saintland National Soccer Team, the founder of Royal Computer Entertainment of Saintland (which produces the Saint and SaintPhone lines of mobile devices and software for them that promotes the agenda of hardliners in the Sanctii government and Church) and an ally of the hard-liners within the Church of Saintland. Along with his (now deceased) twin brother Josephus (who was killed in an World Cup of Hockey match), prominent Sanctustube personality Sister Maria Polus, Patriarch Nicolaus V, RepublicSoft LLC and the Holy Party of the Free Republics, Andreas conspired to rig a Republican Consul election for the Holy Party and make Reino Kulseth the unquestioned leader of the nation that became known as the Holy Republican Empire. This elaborate conspiracy, however, is not public knowledge and it is widely believed that the Republican regime was elected in a free and fair election. King Andreas and his co-conspirators were committed to spreading their Faith by any means necessary and were covertly funding terrorist organizations such as the Christian State to advance their agenda. This covert funding of international terrorism was eventually the undoing of "King" Andreas who was removed in a bloodless manner by Euran troops shortly after the fall of the Holy Republican Empire at the hands of internal rebels and a coalition of foreign troops from various nations.

Saintland has traditionally been a divine right absolute monarchy with an established Church that is more powerful than the King, but after the Restoration of King Petrus XX, the balance of power has tiled toward the King who is currently in the process of transitioning the Kingdom toward a Constitutional Monarchy. The population of the entire Kingdom of Saintland is around 600 thousand.

Transportation

Due to the lack of an automobile manufacturing industry in Saintland and the prohibitive cost of importing foreign-made cars, the automobile has never been popular in Saintland. A few years ago, King Paulus XV decided to ban private ownership of automobiles for public safety reasons. Therefore, visitors to Saintland will not have the use of automobiles of any sort.

Under the laws of Saintland, automobiles may only be used by police, the military, fire departments and licensed bus or taxi services. In the cities, you should be able to find a bus or a taxi. If you see a police or military vehicle on the road, it is likely headed toward a crime scene of some sort or is being used to transport a criminal who has been apprehended by the authorities. It is highly recommended to move to the sidewalk when you see an automobile coming down the street.

Saintland has a highly developed high-speed rail network that connects every community in Saintland, from the tiniest villages to the cities of St. Petrus and St. Paulus. This is the only fairly quick way to travel between the communities of Saintland. The sole airport in the Kingdom is located in St. Petrus.

Bicycles are a popular form of transportation in Saintland. There are bicycle rental stores in most communities throughout the Kingdom. The most popular bicycle rental stores, among international visitors to Saintland, are located at the St. Paulus and St. Petrus airports. Bicycle parking is provided throughout Saintland and locks are included with every bike. The use of helmets is optional, but recommended.

Lodging

Until recently, Saintland lacked the necessary lodging to host large numbers of foreign visitors at a given time. However, in the hopes of luring major international sports events to Saintland, the King's Government constructed a number of hotels in the major cities over the past few years. All players, coaches and officials from the nations that are playing in Saintland will receive complimentary lodging at the Royal Hotel in St. Petrus. If requested, hotel staff will perform a wake up call to ensure that your players make it to the stadium in time for the start of their games.

Weather

Saintland is located in a polar region, which means that the weather is relatively cold, even during the summer. The average summer temperature in Saintland is 14 degrees (Celsius), which is the equivalent of 57.2 Fahrenheit. On an exceptionally warm day in Saintland, the weather may reach the mid-70s Fahrenheit (24 Celsius), but temperatures in the neighborhood of 7 Celsius (44.6 Fahrenheit) are not unheard of during the summer.

Language

Saintland speaks a dialect of Latin. Sanctii Latin is a living language, so it does have some differences from classical Latin. The degree of difference between the Latin of the Vulgate and the Latin spoken in Saintland is similar to the difference between the English of the King James Bible and the English that is widely spoken today.

Although Latin is the native language of the Sanctii, foreign language education is heavily emphasized in the nation's education system. The average person you run into on the street should be able to speak English relatively fluently, so there is not much of a language barrier for those from English-speaking nations.

Currency

Saintland uses a currency based on bullion. The main coins in Saintland are the Denarius, which is a one-ounce gold coin and the Argentii, a one-ounce silver coin. Gold and silver coins are also available in smaller weights, all the way down to 1/100th of an ounce of silver.

If you do not possess bullion, Universal Standard Dollars are widely accepted, as are the Republican Thaler and the Acedonian Ace. Their value will fluctuate, however, depending upon the current values of gold and silver on the international market.

Entertainment

Saintland is a theocracy that operates under Biblical law, so many forms of entertainment are illegal in Saintland. However, those laws have been relaxed somewhat under King Petrus XX.

There are 5 television networks in Saintland, which are numbered from Royal One to Royal Five. These networks will be airing every match of the World Baseball Classic live, as it happens along with an eclectic mix of Sanctii programming and (ideologically translated) foreign programming.

Additional programming is available on Sanctustube. The Royal Networks maintain a popular Sanctustube channel, which includes live streams and on-demand access to almost every game played in the WBC since WBC 25. It also includes on-demand access to any game from recent editions of other major tournaments, completely free of charge. If you'd rather watch programming from your home nation, you can probably find it on Sanctustube. Outside of Saintland, if you watch an unauthorized video of a non-Sanctii show on Sanctustube, you will see the show unedited. However, when accessed within Saintland, Sanctustube displays a highly edited version. Anything that is deemed incompatible with the values of Saintland will be removed and background music is usually replaced with music of Sanctii origin. It is not unheard of for the King's Government censors to ideologically translate a foreign television program or movie to reflect the values of Saintland.

There are movie theaters in the cities of Saintland which mostly show (low-budget) movies produced by Sanctii directors. Movies must be approved by the censors before they can be shown in movie theaters. Sometimes, popular foreign films will be broadcast in the theater, typically after an ideological translation and massive editing.

Cantus Virginum is the most popular musical group in Saintland. The group consists of around a hundred members at any given time. Their members are young women who are either still legally minors under the laws of Saintland or have only recently become adults. Their music is primarily popular with their peers and with girls slightly younger than them. It is widely considered, even among citizens of Saintland, to be of poor quality. It used to be considered impolite in Saintland to publicly criticize their (lack of) singing ability. However, while they are still fairly popular, in spite of past scandals.

Important Laws

As Saintland is a theocratic nation, pornography, prostitution and public nudity are all highly illegal. The ban on pornography includes "written" pornography, a category that includes most romance novels of foreign origin. Tobacco, Cannabis and other recreational drugs are also illegal. Drinking alcohol is legal, although it is highly regulated. There are limits on how much alcohol an individual may purchase. Drinking alcohol outside of communion is unlawful for minors, university students and soldiers that are not officers. Excessive drunkenness in public is illegal. Contrary to popular misconception, protesting is actually legal in Saintland, but sedition and blasphemy are illegal. In effect, this has meant in the past that any protest against the King's Government or the Church of Saintland is considered a criminal act, though King Petrus is in the process of reinterpreting the laws to permit "legitimate constructive criticism" but not criticism of the "nonconstructive" variety. However, even before the reinterpretation of the laws, a protest against horse racing at the first international Saintland Triple Crown by citizens of the Equestrian States was permitted. There are also laws on the books that prohibit aiding unlawful organizations in any way whatsoever. These were originally intended to be used against those who aided Feministvs Sanctvsterra, but as they are not an illegal group any longer the law now primarily applies to those who aid the remnants of the Christian State or other well-known international terrorist organizations. Possession of firearms by anybody who is not a police officer or a soldier is strictly prohibited.

While there are sumptuary laws on the books, most of them will not be enforced upon visitors who are here for the Baptism of Fire. However, women will be required to wear a head covering while in public. Exceptions will be made for athletes, during games, should the head covering interfere with their ability to compete to the best of their ability. Visitors who are not following the sumptuary laws should keep their IDs with them at all times and be ready to show them to any soldier or police officer upon request. This exemption will apply to nationals from nations that are participating in the World Baseball Classic and will remain in effect until up to 72 hours after the final game of the WBC. Any foreign nationals that remain in Saintland 3 days after the conclusion of the WBC will automatically obtain visitor status, with their 90 day clock to either apply for foreign resident status, apply for immigrant status or leave starting retroactively at the moment they arrived in Saintland.

Customs

Everybody visiting Saintland should expect to go through Customs prior to entering the nation. Customs is a branch of the Royal Army, which is tasked with keeping contraband out of Saintland. Customs will thoroughly search all items that are taken into Saintland. They will primarily be searching for guns, tobacco, cannabis, other recreational drugs, blasphemous material, seditious material and pornography. If a book appears to be "written pornography," that can cause a long delay in Customs while the Customs officials check the list of known works of "written pornography" to see if the book in question is on the list.

Stadiums

Royal Stadium (Group A)

Royal Stadium, located in St. Petrus, is Saintland's National Stadium. The spacious stadium seats 62,383 fans and is the home of the National Soccer Team and the National Gridiron Team. Royal Stadium has a grass surface. Royal Stadium will host all Group A matches and a match in every single knockout round, including a Semi-Final and the Baptism of Fire 59 Final.

Via Damascus Stadium (Group B)

The Via Damascus Stadium, which means "Road to Damascus" in English, is located in St. Paulus, the largest city in Saintland. Via Damascus is Saintland's second most prestigious stadium. It has been the home of the National Rugby Union Team during past World Cups of Rugby Union. It is also the home stadium of the St. Paulus teams for soccer and gridiron. The stadium seats 32,189. Via Damascus Stadium will host all Group B matches and matches in every single knockout round including a Semi-Final and the Third Place Match.

Royal Park (Group C)

Located in St. Petrus, Royal Park was the home of the Saintland National Baseball Team. Seating 51,773 fans, Royal Park is primarily used as a baseball stadium. However, since baseball has been in decline in Saintland in recent years, Royal Park is increasingly being used for other sports. It is somewhat smaller than the other stadiums and cannot fit a Saintland Rules Gridiron field (although it can fit a World Bowl Rules field or a soccer pitch). However, this means that the crowd at Royal Park will be closer to the pitch than crowds at the other stadiums in Saintland. Royal Park will host all Group C matches as well as matches in the Round of 16 and the Quarterfinals.

Civitate Dei Stadium (Group D)

Civitate Dei Stadium, which seats 38,202, is located in St. Augustinus, where the University of St. Augustinus is located. Civitate Dei is the home of the University of St. Augustinus Football Team, former champions of NSCF, and is also the stadium where the National Gridiron Team played their home games during World Bowl XXI. Civitate Dei Stadium will host all Group D matches as well as matches in the Round of 16 and the Quarterfinals.

Progress Stadium (Group E)

Progress Stadium, located in St. Ioannes, is a stadium located on the campus of Progress High School. The stadium seats 17,303 and is used by the St. Ioannes gridiron and soccer teams. It will host all Group E matches as well as a match in the Round of 16.

Amphitheatrum Confessiones (Group F)

The Amphitheatrum Confessiones in St. Augustinus is the home of the St. Augustinus soccer club in Saintland's domestic soccer league. The Amphitheatrum seats 24,306. It will host all Group F matches as well as a match in the Round of 16.

King Paulus XIV Park (Group G)

King Paulus XIV Park is a baseball stadium in St. Paulus, which is named after the great-great-great-grandfather of King Paulus XV, the father of King Petrus XX. King Paulus XIV was a legendary pitcher in the early days of baseball in Saintland. He was every bit as dominant in his time as King Petrus XX and Prince Ioannes are in their respective sports today. In honor of King Paulus XIV, the best pitcher in Saintland's baseball league is awarded the King Paulus XIV award. It will host all Group G matches as well as a match in the Round of 16.

St. Andreas Beach Stadium (Group H)

St. Andreas Beach Stadium is a makeshift "stadium" located on the beach near the village of St. Andreas. It was hastily put together by the King's Government due to the lack of an eighth suitable stadium to host CR matches. The pitch uses an artificial SaintTurf surface and the "stadium" lacks any seating capacity whatsoever. It will host all Group H matches as well as a match in the Round of 16.

Notes

Saintland has a very rough style of play and very few fouls in our national league, so don't hesitate to card Sanctii players, especially if Saintland loses. In the Sanctii version of the 4-2-1-3 formation, the outside backs also function as outside midfielders. Andreas Fadius is NOT a member of the Royal Family and is, in fact, a minor who has been granted a special exception to participate on the National Soccer Team as Andreas Usurpus, the King's younger brother, is indefinitely suspended from the National Soccer Team and King Petrus XX elected to give his nation's top prospect a chance at replacing him in the starting lineup. Ioannes and Nicolaus Poenius are brothers, as are Silvester, Paulus and Josephus Flaccus, Stephanus and Philippus Vagionius, Petrus and Isaacus Barrius and Petrus and Marcus Jucundius. Andreas Inventius is the brother of Pius Inventius, Saintland's flagbearer at the VIII Winter Olympics. Inventius is a defensive-minded midfielder. Stephanus Vagionius is not an especially fast player, but he is very tall and he is an exceptional finisher. Philippus Vagionius is faster than his brother, but not as good at finishing. The Poenius brothers both have world-class speed. When Saintland attacks, Andreas Fadius usually has possession of the ball and has to decide whether to go for the goal himself or pass it to Vagionius or Flaccus instead. Fadius takes free kicks, corners and throw-ins. Stephanus Vagionius will handle penalties.

After the ascension to the Throne of King Petrus XX, he reached out to Josephus Flaccus. Flaccus had defected Saintland following World Cup 65 qualifying and became a star in New Sideburn's domestic league. King Petrus XX worked out a deal for him to return to the Saintland National Team. This led to Saintland's most successful World Cup up to that point in the 68th edition, which concluded with a Round of 16 defeat to Polar Islandstates. That was followed up with a Round of 16 exit from their first Copa Rushmori, at the hands of Taeshan. Saintland dominated in Qualifying for World Cup 69, but were stunned by Antoletia in the group stage, suffering an early exit. They came into their second Copa Rushmori as the 4th highest ranked Rushmori nation in the then-current KPB rankings and made it all the way to the finals before faltering against Polar Islandstates. After an ill-fated host bid for all 3 WCC events during the 70th cycle, King Petrus XX gave his brother Andreas an ultimatum - Win World Cup 70 or be stripped of his captaincy! After Prince Andreas failed to accomplish that, he was stripped of his captaincy.

Former Holy Republican National Team manager Rule Theriault was hired as the first manager of the Saintland National Team. Theriault was highly successful as the Republican manager, taking a bunch of lightly regarded prospects and turning them into one of the elite teams in international soccer, a team that came very close to winning World Cup 68. However, after his team self-destructed during the 70th World Cup cycle, it was nationalized by the Imperial Government of the Holy Republican Empire and Theriault was left without his team. Fortunately for him, his long-time assistant Massimiliano Abdullahi had already been approached by King Petrus XX for the Sanctii managerial job. After Theriault became available, Abdullahi convinced the King of Saintland to hire his former boss instead.

Rule Theriault, the son of a Republican admiral, never really had the right temperament to manage a Republican team, but he could not have had a better temperament, on paper, to be the Sanctii manager. Theriault believes in defensive-oriented soccer, with an emphasis on discipline, perfect execution and on the primacy of the team rather than the individual. While he had to mute these aspects of his personality in order to manage a Republican team that quickly became the most hated team in the multiverse, he expected to be able to be himself as the manager of the Sanctii National Team.

Theriault's first move was to radically alter the Sanctii team's tactics. Saintland, a nation known for developing great defensive soccer talent, had gradually become a recklessly attack-oriented team under Prince Andreas's captaincy, as Prince Andreas left the team without a competent defensive back. While Theriault reduced the size of the roster and re-numbered the players, his biggest change was his shift to a 6-3-1 formation, which he has dubbed the "Ladder" formation. The "Ladder" is built around preventing goals from being scored, with a heavy reliance on the counter-attack to produce goals. Therefore, Lucas Aufidius, the subpar defensive back who is primary known as a long-ball specialist, remains in the starting lineup. However, Matthaeus Belaeus returns to the starting lineup and young Paulus Plinius will be permitted to start on a regular basis for the first time. But, the anchor of the Sanctii defense is Iulianus Agrius, a young sweeper for the St. Paulus club in the Sanctii domestic league, who will be making his National Team debut at this tournament. Another notable new starter is Andreas Inventius, a long-time Sanctii reserve who was held out of the starting lineup by Prince Andreas because he was a defensive minded midfielder rather than an attack-minded one. With the departure of Acedonian ringer Herakles Karoki, who has under-performed in the past few cycles, and the aging Georgius Catiotus, the Sanctii National Team now consists of 23 players, the fewest in a long time, but Theriault believed that the team would be better off without the 2 of them.

At the 20th edition of the Copa Rushmori, Theriault's Sanctii National Team reached the semis before falling to Eura. The Sanctii entered World Cup Qualifying for the 71st cycle ranked 10th in the current KPB rankings, their highest ranking ever and had qualified for 4 out of the previous 5 World Cups, including 3 straight going into World Cup 71. However, the team never advanced past the Round of 16 under Prince Andreas and Saintland has never won any international soccer tournament. Theriault started out that World Cup cycle hoping to change that, with his new emphasis on defense, but instead managed Saintland to their worst WCQ performance as a number of star players refused to put in any effort, in hopes of getting Theriault fired. King Petrus refused to fire Theriault and ordered the team to win the followed edition of the Cup of Harmony if they wished to enter future editions of the World Cup. They would finish third, but it would ultimately prove a moot point as "King" Andreas fired Theriault, appointed himself captain again and decided to enter World Cup 72 anyways.

However, "King" Andreas has decided against returning to the ultra-aggressive formation that he utilized during his first captaincy. Instead, the Sanctii will now play a 1-4-1-2-1-1 formation, with the only significant change being Petrus Mamilius's placement in the starting lineup in place of Matthaeus Belaeus. The new Sanctii team was still a relatively defensive-minded team, but nowhere near as defensive-minded as they were under Theriault. They would once again reach the CR semi-finals before faltering and would, once again, be eliminated in the Round of 16 of the World Cup finals. The team, under Alessandro Seius, will utilize the same system they used in the 72nd World Cup cycle, but with Andreas Fadius filling in for the suspended usurper.

ICELFA Roster for Copa Rushmori XXII

Demonym: Eastfielder

Eastfield Lodge is a pretty glorious nation, somewhat situated in Northern Rushmore - in reality, there's a very small island (acting as a transport hub) which hosts a portal linking the NSverse to a small bubble universe, wherein the rest of the Imperial Commonwealth is located (barring a couple of nations, but they’re linked up in other ways). The IC part describes the fact that there are several empires contained within one superstructure – divisions which are somewhat reflected in the convoluted league structure.

Those of you who know this nation well however will wonder what has happened to the Whoniverse (the universe of Doctor Who, the TV programme). Don’t worry, I will (hopefully) RP what went on. To those who don’t know, this nation used be in the NSverse, but due to the acts of a lone madman from The Holy Empire (mad, or pitiful, the legends are a bit shaky), Eastfield Lodge almost vanished from existence, leaving behind a small island (now in Rushmore), attached to a portal connecting here to the Whoniverse. Things happened, the portal became unstable, and we had to form a bubble universe, and as a result, the resulting temporal shockwave both wiped out all electronic records, and did some weird stuff to people’s ages (hence why some names in the team may seem recognisable).

Anyways, because of the initial portal, whilst humans are the overwhelming majority of the populace here, don't be surprised to find several other races and much advanced technology here. Some more historical information can be found here, in lieu of a factbook (NB: a lot of the information there is inaccurate though, TG me for clarification).

Back to the nation itself, Eastfield Lodge is probably the best place to live in the entirety of Rushmore, according to the WA at any rate. Amongst the accolades heaped upon are: Most Compassionate Citizens, Most Beautiful Environments, Happiest Citizens, Most Dedicated Public Healthcare, Healthiest Citizens, Least Corrupt Government, Longest Average Lifespan, Lowest Crime Rates, Nicest Citizens, Largest Public Transportation Department, Safest, Smartest Citizens, Most Popular Tourist Destinations, Best Weather and Largest Welfare Programs. Also of note is the fact that, in a region containing Saintland, Eastfield Lodge is the Most Devout nation, with Islam being the national religion, and that we have the Highest Police Ratios, so do not be alarmed by the sheer number of police officers.

Lodger City Memorial Stadium
Location: New Lodger City
Capacity: 150,000
Description: The home of Eastfielder football, the stadium was built on the ruins of the old capital of Eastfield Lodge, Lodger City, which was flattened in a double disaster (severe floods from dams bursting and an explosion from an unknown source, killing much of the population of the city and rendering the city useless. Administrative functions were transferred over to Lodgertia, the city began to be rebuilt, and it was decided that this stadium would be one of the monuments erected in place. The inside walls contains inscriptions of the names of all the dead – just under 9 million. The stadium currently plays host to the two classic giants of EL football – RGS Athletic and VLC FC, at least until both have their new stadium plans approved. For the purposes of ‘fairness’ (with the rest of the league), the attendance is limited to 100,000 for league games, but is maxed for the cup games of both sides, and the final is played here as well.

Parliament Stadium
Location: Lodgertia
Capacity: 80,000
Description: The second largest stadium in Eastfield Lodge, behind the Memorial Stadium in New Lodger City, it was built in the centre of Lodgertia, the capital of Eastfield Lodge, and the Imperial Commonwealth. It was named due to the fact that the Parliament is based just a few hundred metres down the road; in fact, the original stadium was actually joined to the Parliament building, as an area where MPs could watch or even engage in sport with the public, as well as being a designated protest site. However, with Lodgertia becoming more built up, it was decided that the stadium needed to be built up as well. It is home to Lodgertia United and Lodgertia City alongside being temporary hosts of RGS Athletic and VLC FC (when Lodger City was being rebuilt), and in the past has hosted several international matches, including the final of SBCC 27 and a group in both stages of Market Cup 4.

Manager: Lowell Brown
Age: 52. Manager of Seaton Town, Brown is known in Eastfield Lodge for being one of the fairest and impartial managers in the top flight - if his team were lucky with a decision, he will not claim otherwise. Has managed on the international scene previously, being put in charge of both the men’s and women’s Olympic football teams, featuring most of the players selected for the qualifying campaign.
Coach: Shabeen Ahmad III
Age: 57. He went down in Eastfield Lodge history as having scored over 200 goals for the EL national team (a record that will stand for a long time since all other records since then have been wiped). Still an inspiration to everyone and even at this age his skill is noticeable, even if his agility has waned. He has been the main offensive coach for several World Cups now.

Goalkeepers:
Veronica Puppy (Age 25, F; Club: VLC FC)
Dennis Wood (Age: 31, M; Club: RGS Athletic)
Gavin Mintson (Age: 26, M; Club: Norrion Rovers)

Dominique Lamy (Age: 29, F, Club: Walston Brook Albion, Position: CB)
Abdur Rehman (Age: 23, M, Club: RGS Athletic, Position: RB)
Robyn Summers (Age: 28, F, Club: Olympia FC, Position: RB)
Darlene Finn (Age: 26, F, Club: Norrion Rovers, Position: LB)
Hamaad Siddique (Age: 19, M, Club: Selyne Athenians [NSI], Position: LB)

Midfielders:

Methuselah Wallis-Iqbal (Age: 19, M, Club: St. George's Creek [Apox], Position: CM/AM)

Thomas Graham (Age: 27, M, Club: CSKA Quebec [RKQ], Position: ST)
Tia Drenas (Age: 22, F, Club: RGS Athletic, Position: ST)

Formation: 4-1-2-3
Image

The formation is a weird variant on the classic basic 4-3-3. Here, there is the one holding midfielder, and the other two are pushed up to play just off the ST as attacking midfielders, whilst the WFs are also slightly tucked in from a usual position. This allows them more of an equal choice of either cutting in or going out wide for the cross, which may be met by the other winger or one of the midfielders. The front five can drift to other positions at any time, just to keep defences on their toes. Defensively, the AMs will drop back and slightly out wide or into the middle as required, and are decently proficient at dispossessing the ball and using it well. The DM is mainly there to guard the defence, and is adept at picking out a pass (short or long), and helping to dictate plays. The CBs are as standard, but the FBs are given the freedom to roam forwards as far as they can get away with, and more often than will get involved in attacking plays, with some crosses from both deep and closer in.
In terms of goal scoring, the ST will get the bulk of the goals, with good contributions from both the AMs and the WFs as well. The WFs will get most of the assists, followed closely by the AMs, then the ST and DM.

Starting XI:
GK: Veronica Puppy

RB: Abdur Rehman
CB: Dylan Bell Jnr
CB: Charlie Richardson
LB: Darlene Finn

DM: Daniel Keeble
RAM: The Doctor
LAM: Waleed Saqib

RW: Georgina Wadimu
LW: Roman Qwivotic
ST: Thomas Graham

NB: As the people of EL are extremely compassionate, and very civilised (despite what you may say about the religion), it would be uncharacteristic for the coaches/players to lose their temper, dive deliberately (jumping out of the way of bad tackles and falling awkwardly doesn't count), to be sent to the stands (if the ref is clearly very biased however...), spit, argue with the ref or fight. Players will also tend to inform the referee about mistakes/clarifications in judgement regarding throw-ins, fouls given but with no contact and goal kicks/corner kicks (plus other bouts of honesty - up to you).

SAN LLERA NATIONAL TEAM

Image

Name: San Llera National Team
Nickname: The Swagfish
Great Leader: Alejandro Llano
Head Coach: Vacant, interim coach is Marko Vujvic
Assistant Coaches: Pietro Madonna, Pere Dissa
Factbook: Here
Style Modifier: +.65

History of San Llera
San Llera has a long and storied history and has always had a passion for the game (In fact, the native peoples of San Llera claim to have invented soccer, though their claim is rarely recognized or even acknowledged). However, San Llera has only participated in the World Cup. Just prior to that World Cup, San Llera participated in its first international tournament, a tournament for newcomers entitled the Baptism of Fire. The Baptism of Fire started very well for San Llera with a perfect 5-wins-in-5-games group stage, but the 1-seed San Llera was knocked out in the round of 16 by 16-seed Flardania. It was a disappointing end to their run, but it still left San Llera confident that they could do well in World Cup Qualifying. Unfortunately, they were often left at the mercy of more experienced nations, and San Llera disappointed their hopeful fanbase with a mere 11 points in 14 games, not even coming close to qualifying for the World Cup.

In San Llera's second attempt at qualifying for the World Cup, they hoped to do a bit better now that they had some experience, but they disappointed once again. With 14 points, a small improvement, they left qualifying in sixth place and without a ticket to either the World Cup or the Cup of Harmony. However, they did settle for an invite to the Runner Cup.

Now, they enter their first Copa Rushmori, hoping to have more success in a regional tournament.

As for the history of the nation itself, here is an excerpt from the national factbook:
"San Llera came into existence as the natives rose up against their overseas captors in 1857. After a bloody coup which resulted in the beheadings of most foreign government officials, San Llera remained stagnant as the natives returned to their old ways. The first president of San Llera was Dorano Trecci, a member of the Homeland Party. Parties have since been outlawed in San Llera. Recently, with the "presidency" of Alejandro Llano, San Llera has experienced a boom in population and economy along with urbanization. However, the people maintain their old traditions today."

Coaching Staff

Great Leader Alejandro Llano - Doesn't actually do anything
Interim Head Coach Marko Vujvic - After former head coach Jon Lleranerus sadly fell into a coma and died, his loyal assistant Marko Vujvic became the interim whilst San Llera looked for a replacement. Vujvic is not from San Llera, which garnered a lot of controversy when he was hired, but the people of San Llera have come to quite like the coach. He is outgoing yet calm and known for his tactical skill, making him the polar opposite of his predecessor.
Assistant Coach Pietro Madonna - No relation to singer, Madonna is very good at helping to develop young players. He is the only coach San Llera has who is adept at making players better.
Assistant Coach Pere Dissa - A very similar coach to the deceased Lleranerus, Dissa is passionate and very outspoken about his beliefs. Players coached by him tend to be very conditioned.

Roster
Postion First Name Last Name - Age - Club - Description
GK Marcel Fons - 26 years old - Image Llara Llera - The younger brother of Chimo, Marcel was considered a keeper for the future. However, after very impressive performances for club and his brother's struggles, interim coach Marko Vujvic has publicly announced that Marcel will be the number 1 choice this Copa Rushmori.
GK Chimo Fons - 30 years old - Image Llerana SC - A reliable keeper who is commanding in the air and almost never makes mental errors, Fons was the obvious choice for starting goalkeeper until recently, when struggles for club and country, as well as his brother's success, caught up to him.
GK Didac Escutia - 31 years old - Image I.K Cora City - "Wallpaper" is the streakiest player on the roster, and Vujvic is afraid that he'll single-handedly give away a couple of games if he plays. On his best days, he can be nearly unbeatable. Unfortunately, his worst days practically guarantee a San Llera loss.
LB Jacque Olivier - 28 years old - Image Llerana SC - Olivier is an unremarkable defender who is smart but not spectacular. Unfortunately, poor play in the last World Cup campaign put him on thin ice for his starting job. But a solid qualifying meant that he should get the nod for the Copa Rushmori.
CB Marc Abello - 32 years old - Image Pantans - Once a prodigy, a horrific injury stopped his progress but he has worked his way back onto the national team. Now, the center back is one of the best defenders on the national team, with his great passing ability and acute awareness.
CB Gerard Quella - 25 years old - Image Scottopia City - Two World Cups ago, Quella was a shock selection who nobody had heard of. But solid World Cup play and his team's inclusion in the inaugural season of San League Soccer have made him an established player known for his clever passing. Now, Quella has been given a chance to start at center back ahead of long time starter Alexandre De Gonia, as Marko Vujvic looks to experiment.
RB Antoni Belles - 23 years old - Image Granger Dragonites - Belles is a young speedster that loves to overlap with winger and put in crosses but often gets caught in possession. However, he recently has been better at getting back on defense and not acting his age.
LB Pau Milla - 30 years old - Image Cremando Llera - Just a year ago, Milla was still playing street soccer in the tiny village he was brought up in. Since then, he has been discovered and given a spot on Cremando Llera, who he helped to a shocking 3rd place finish with his excellent awareness and flashy ball skills.
CB Alexandre De Gonia - 28 years old - Image Llerana SC - "The Soviet Swan" is the dirtiest player on the team, and will slide tackle anyone in sight. However, those who know him will tell you that he's a very kind, gentle, and romantic man. But if you see him on the pitch, you will start to doubt this.
CB Sergi Batista - 29 years old - Image Ousevale Borough - Batista, nicknamed "Beast", has a considerable size advantage over other players but not much else. He is 6'8"'and 250 pounds, and fantastic in the air, but he has been found lacking in areas such as awareness and on-ball defending. However, coaches in recent press conferences have pressed that he has improved considerably in those areas, and expectations are high for Batista to finally show more technical ability.
RB Josep Paul - 23 years old - Image Utica United - A somewhat surprise selection, Paul played in the Di Bradini Cup but had never previously hinted at playing for the national team. The right back certainly is national-team caliber 95% of the time, but he is prone to making huge errors the other 5%.
LW Martini Saragosa - 31 years old - Image AS Mantegapa - Saragosa definitely breaks the mold for traditional wingers. While most at his position are fast and dynamic on the ball, Saragosa is slow and rarely dribbles very much. However, he is an incredibly good passer that manufactures many San Lleran attacks. He also is one of the best crossers in this entire Copa Rushmori.
CM Enric Bou - 21 years old - Image Real Old Maiz - After breaking out as an 18-year-old in the last World Cup, Bou is looking to play even better in this one. And his recent club play with Llara Llera has indicated that he will be one of the best San Llera players in this World Cup. It also earned him a transfer to Real Old Maiz of the Zenician league. Bou, while still a bit lanky, is well beyond his years in passing, and he has improved defensively over the last several years.
CM Hector Fonda - 26 years old - Image Hasilpur Ox's - "The Sponge" is one of the most popular players on San Llera, and he backs that popularity up with his talent. Fonda is rough, tough, and a beast in the defensive midfield who is feared by attackers and makes the defenders' lives much easier. He has also recently developed very nice chemistry with Bou, his partner in central midfield. He can stay back and offer the back line some security while Bou ventures forward.
RW Don Llorens (VC) - 32 years old - Image Llerana SC - Despite a horrid campaign in the last World Cup which left expectant fans out for his head, Llorens is still undoubtedly San Llera's best player. He has few weaknesses, being one of the best shooters, one of the best passers, one of the smartest, one of the fastest, and one of the most versatile players on the squad. This Copa Rushmori, expectations are still high and he should be able to sufficiently captain his team.
LW Pelechamchas - 27 years old - Image Chell SC - What Pelechamchas lacks in pure talent, he makes up for in pure speed. The 6'4" winger isn't the greatest natural soccer player in Rushmore, but he is a beast in the air with his height and nearly impossible to keep up with for defenders. He is admittedly not great defensively, but the offensive threat he offers with his speed and excellent ability to whip in crosses, never mind use his six feet and four inches to latch on to crosses, earns him a place on the team.
CM Oscar Cardona - 23 years old - Image Huntington United FC - The star on San Llera's last Di Bradini Cup, Cardona has all the tools to be a great center-mid, with good vision, silky passing, and flashy dribbling. He is also, reportedly, a great locker room presence, unlike the player that he replaces in this roster.
CM Teodor Alemany - 22 years old - Image Klyde - With Cardona, Marko Vujvic also put his U-21 partner in the midfield, Teodor Alemany. Alemany is a defensive midfielder of the San Lleran mold, being rough and not afraid of anybody.
RW Guifre Gil - 30 years old - Image Chell SC - Gil is an incredible dribbler and favorite of the fans, but stuck behind Don Llorens on the depth chart. He is also coming off of a bad injury, and needs to be eased back into form. And unfortunately for the eccentric winger, there won't be much time for him on the field to get back into form.
ST Andreu Mallet - 33 years old - Image Llerana SC - Mallet, San Llera's best player in their first World Cup, straddles the line between striker and #10. He sometimes chooses to try to set up his teammates with chances, and sometimes tries to get the chances that he is very adept at setting up. Unfortunately, poor play in the last World Cup led some to believe his stake in the starting lineup was being threatened, but he should get starts here.
ST Carles Mestre - 26 years old - Image Familia Llano - Mestre, at his best, is clearly the starting striker for San Llera and perhaps the best player on the team. However, Mestre at his worst doesn't deserve to be in consideration for the roster. Marko Vujvic will certainly hope he gets the good side of the 5'1" striker this Copa Rushmori.
ST Jan Capo - 25 years old - Image Chell SC - No relation to fringe National Team right back Marco Capo, Jan is talented but has attitude problems. At the age of 20, Capo was caught on camera killing a man outside of a nightclub, and he was promptly convicted of murder. Then, in a strange turn of events, he was pardoned by Great Leader Alejandro Llano. Capo is now a free man, but seems to be on a course back to jail based on his track record of fights and off-field incidents.
ST Oscar Potus - 27 years old - Image 1093 Club de Atlantea - "The President" was a breakout star in San League soccer with Llara Llera, which earned him a move to Taeshan. He is especially good at making clever runs behind defenders and finishing clinically.

The Estelarian National Team
- also known as the Stargazers, nickname given after a poll with supporters -

"We are going to... Hell, it seems... I'm not talking literally, you know, just so that you do not transform this in an exaggerated headline... but it seems that we are going to play our first international competition in a very hostile place, in which we'll stay at the hotel most of the time and leave just for training and the matches themselves...", said Jupiter Lynx after commenting on the trip her team is soon going to make. And she has reasons to say this, since Estelar is a women-only squad going to a place with a culture imposing several opressive obligations to women, including the fact of covering their heads in public. "Yeah, we'll just be staying at the hotel, get food there, get drinks there, party there, do everything else that you can imagine there and leaving just for the matches... I think the association is already looking at some groups who can help us with transportation", said team captain Daniela.

Striker Vesta also lamented the limitations on drinking on Saintland: "We will try to bring a lot of booze, but they may confiscate them on customs... in that case not having much to drink will surely affect our performance, we need the booze! Well, I guess we can drink a lot of wine there, at least I hope so." But one of the most affected players will be Augusta, a heavy smoker who is prohibited to smoke in the host country of the Copa Rushmori: "Hey, okay, I smoke a lot and I just lit two cigarettes right now, but I am not the only one! Give me a break!" So, bad news for Estelarian fans in general, who won't see many news involving their favourite players during the competition and also won't be much exicted to travel to the host country to follow the team at the stadiums. But Imogene attempted to calm down these worries: "We are here to play some quality football and we'll always have the time to party later after we do a good campaign. Party a lot, by the way. A lot. A. lot."

Estelar has announced the names of the 23 players, trained by coach Jupiter Lynx, popular former player who is going to have her first job as a coach with the National Team, and surely will be under a lot of pressure. The list of players, with the important details involving their birth charts, is just below. Jupiter made some good choices in the call up and managed to keep a very balanced team, with 9 signs represented in the starting eleven and the remaining three also having representatives among the substitutes. A decision that can greatly help the diversity of the squad and even the team chemistry: "We have a lot of positive combinations in the team and the substitutes can do a good job in any matchday in which the horoscope promises some bad things involving the starters. Of course I'll be following the stars to see how to change the team from day to day."

1- Daniela "Dani" Abate
Position: Goalkeeper
Age: 23 years old
Sun: Gemini - Ascendant: Gemini - Moon: Gemini
Mercury: Taurus - Venus: Aries - Mars: Pisces

Dani is one who rose to become a star since she was a teenager. She became the starting goalkeeper of the Estelarian team when she was just seventeen and has kept the position, and now she is considered to be the main player of the entire squad, also becoming the captain. She is excellent at leaving the area and acting like a libero when needed, or at throwing herself on the feet of opponent players. However, she is very eccentric, loving to make plastic saves, high jumps and shouting at the opponents or the referee, which can create her problems. Outside the playing field, her love for brandy is well known, and when going out with her party-partner Vesta, both usually carry each other towards the taxi or the hotel. A bit childish, she hates daily responsibilities, so people always have to remember her of paying her bills or going to the doctor.

2- Sidonie Belini
Position: Right-back
Age: 29 years old
Sun: Pisces - Ascendant: Capricorn - Moon: Sagittarius
Mercury: Aquarius - Venus: Aquarius - Mars: Scorpio

An experienced player, Sidonie is a calm right defender who knows how to hold the ball and be patient in order to see the best moment to run forward. Sensitive, she seems to have a natural intuition to check which player on the opposite side is not having a good day and can be explored for mistakes, something that her team mates consider to be a psychic ability. And she is proud of this talent, sometimes even showing this on the television, although she never asks for money to give predictions or deep analysis using her powers. Her mohawk hair is her trademark, and several fans have copied her style around Estelar, and people consider her to be an example of someone in touch with the stars and an example for children.

3- Leona Ferran
Position: Centre-back
Age: 31 years old
Sun: Leo - Ascendant: Virgo - Moon: Leo
Mercury: Cancer - Venus: Cancer - Mars: Libra

More controlled than her team mate Ariana, Leona is the one who organizes the defensive sector of Estelar and commands it. She is a natural leader and the second option for team captain after Dani, and actually if things were decided correctly she would be the captain. She is the most experienced players, knows how to give orders and organize people around her, and is a very balanced person who is trustworthy and hardly loses her temper, and can give some pretty good speeches to motivate her team mates. Leona usually stays deep at the Estelarian defence, ready to be the last defender of the team before the opponents can reach Dani. Apart from her fame as a defender, Leona is also the president of the Players' Association of Estelar, and is also a politician, although currently on unpaid leave due to her responsibilities in football.

4- Ariana Pacheco
Position: Centre-back
Age: 22 years old
Sun: Aries - Ascendant: Scorpio - Moon: Pisces
Mercury: Aries - Venus: Taurus - Mars: Cancer

The brutal defender, Ariana is strong and doesn't forgive anyone. She seems to have a natural anger which she focuses on her opponents, and never gives up on trying to take the ball from an opponent attacker. Due to this she ends making too many fouls and receiving too many cards, but she is not violent... it is not that she wants to hurt the opponents, she just tries hard and attempts everything when defending. She came from a very poor neighbourhood in a foreign country, and she was able to find a better life in Estelar with foster parents, and even found in football a way to release her feelings and have something to enjoy and forget the difficulties, so Ariana's story is always a motivational one.

5- Éris Dezon
Position: Defensive midfielder
Age: 19 years old
Sun: Scorpio - Ascendant: Leo - Moon: Aquarius
Mercury: Libra - Venus: Scorpio - Mars: Leo

Seen as the biggest talent of Estelar in years, Éris is the true guardian of the defensive field of the team, ready to surprise an opponent with a precise tackling, which is her main ability. Very confident in her abilities, this sometimes make her too arrogant, and she is often seen arguing with opponents, whom she loves to provoke into fights, or even her team mates when she thinks they made a mistake, but some people consider this to be just immaturity. However, her friends really like her and she seem to be someone people like to be together. She also likes to discuss astrology, and loves to make jokes regarding signs.

6- Nicole Luna
Position: Left-back
Age: 27 years old
Sun: Taurus - Ascendant: Pisces - Moon: Aquarius
Mercury: Aries - Venus: Gemini - Mars: Capricorn

Nicole seems to be an independent part of the team, who acts not strictly related to the team's strategies, and she really works better this way. This doesn't mean that she is individualistic: she is very loyal to her team mates and is always looking for ways to make good moves to help Estelar, but sometimes attempts to put more flair with her moves, a practically artistic need. Very honest, she always speaks her mind and never discusses with the referee or another authority figure, and admits when she has made a mistake or broke the car of her friend last night. In her daily life Nicole usually attempts to be off the spotlight, and not much is known of her personal habits.

7- Christine "Chrissie" Hacker
Position: Central midfielder
Age: 25 years old
Sun: Sagittarius - Ascendant: Aquarius - Moon: Libra
Mercury: Sagittarius - Venus: Scorpio - Mars: Aries

A defensive midfielder who usually plays more offensive than her position partner, Hacker is an important link in the team between defence and offence. She has a good vision of the playing field, and excellent dribbling qualities, so she can keep the ball until she sees Beatrix (preferred choice) or one of the three attackers available. She is one of the members of the squad who are very devoted to astrology, and she even attempts some readings, although she confesses that she is still learning, but will always love to talk about signs and horoscope. She is also vegetarian, and her internet profile is extremely popular with hints of the best vegan food to accompany each specific positioning of planets in your birth chart.

8- Vesta Robles
Position: Striker
Age: 24 years old
Sun: Gemini - Ascendant: Virgo - Moon: Aries
Mercury: Taurus - Venus: Gemini - Mars: Cancer

The starter striker of the team, and the target woman for Estelar: most plays started by the team will try to reach her in the end. And there are reasons for this. Vesta has a good positioning and a very, very strong kick, with her finishes always being more powerful than accurate, but in the end this works well. Tall, she is also good at heading. A very popular player in the country, Vesta is always on the headlines: if not for a good performance in a match, then it is for a wild night out with Dani, her party-partner. Fond of beers, she always tries at least one new brand in every country she visits, until she is unable to remember her own name so perhaps it is best to stop for the day. Also very flirty, so usually she ends meeting new friends when going out at night. She is also a leader on movements defending transportation by bicycles.

9- Augusta Dreher
Position: Right winger
Age: 27 years old
Sun: Virgo - Ascendant: Leo - Moon: Taurus
Mercury: Leo - Venus: Libra - Mars: Capricorn

Ferocious on the field, we can consider Augusta to be really a player hungry for the ball. This can lead to difficulties, since she sometimes hold the ball for too long and this leads to some missed opportunities. As the right winger, Augusta is good at serving her team mates, but she sometimes attempts individual plays in which she uses more her strength than dribbling, practically stomping the opponents to reach the area and attempt a finish. Another one of the squad who loves going out for some drinks, Augusta is also one who always has to smoke, and in places where tobacco is forbidden she has to take a huge amount of pills to control her desire. And, if permitted, she will even smoke on the field. She is also a very serious person, who respects her coach and team mates.

10- Beatrix July
Position: Attacking midfielder
Age: 23 years old
Sun: Cancer - Ascendant: Libra - Moon: Aquarius
Mercury: Cancer - Venus: Gemini - Mars: Taurus

The brain of the team, she is a genius both on football and outside it, already being a doctor on physics and participating in some of the biggest and most influential researches done by Estelar in the scientific field. Due to this, Beatrix often misses several trainings as she has a deadline for updates on her research. But this doesn't affect much her performances. As a player she is the playmaker of the team, calculating which moves will work better against an specific team and being the spokesperson for the coach, even though Dani is the captain. By the way, her relationship with Dani is one of love and hate, as she is a very organized and emotive person, and it is usually difficult to deal with the childish, selfish and drunk attitude of her team mate. Critics on her performance usually depress her, so she avoids reading the news during a competition.

11- Imogene Gallacher
Position: Left winger
Age: 20 years old
Sun: Sagittarius - Ascendant: Cancer - Moon: Gemini
Mercury: Scorpio - Venus: Scorpio - Mars: Sagittarius

The "left foot of doom" for the opponents, as many people in Estelar call her, Imogene is often seen as the second best attacking player of the country. She can aim the ball perfectly, so her main qualities are in set pieces and crossings, and many of them will be aiming to reach Vesta inside the area. Very extroverted, Imogene usually is seen as the clown of the team, making jokes even during the match and sometimes making provocative commemorations after scoring. Besides being a football player, Imogene loves mechanics, and many times she helped the team to fix vehicles or exercise machines which got broken. Very determined, Imogene is a player who much respects the tactics set by the coach, although she is not shy in taking risks.

12- Vênus Camacho
Position: Goalkeeper
Age: 30 years old
Sun: Virgo - Ascendant: Sagittarius - Moon: Leo
Mercury: Libra - Venus: Leo - Mars: Leo

A natural choice for substitute goalkeeper, Vênus brings the experience of once being the top player at the position in the country before the rise of Dani. Much more solid and serious than her Gemini team mate, Vênus has a strong sense of hierarchy and professionalism: she respect every advice from her coaches and always gives her best, focusing her job at only making saves, avoiding selfish shows or some risky moves. She is an idol at her club, and even has a statue inside the stadium's museum. In her personal life, her marriage with a former team mate has several fans by itself, with people following their every step.

13- Adele Manzano
Position: Left-back
Age: 18 years old
Sun: Scorpio - Ascendant: Gemini - Moon: Gemini
Mercury: Scorpio - Venus: Sagittarius - Mars: Sagittarius

The left-back position in Estelar is curious, because the squad has two very offensive players who love to use technique and beautiful moves in order to send the ball to the attack, which is not always, and perhaps few times, the best option. Adele is considered to be a true jewel for the future of the Stargazers' defensive sector, but some people are worried with her personal development: she spends too much of her recently-conquered wealth, buying car after car, apartment after apartment and getting tired of the new one as quickly as she got tired of the previous one. She likes to show that she is now rich and confident, and attract a lot of people this way.

14- Carolina "Carol" Andromeda
Position: Centre-back
Age: 26 years old
Sun: Aries - Ascendant: Cancer - Moon: Pisces
Mercury: Pisces - Venus: Aquarius - Mars: Taurus

Experienced centre-back even though she is not old, Carol's a very balanced player, without major abilities of note. She just does her job, and does it well. However, sometimes on the field she gets very emotional when defending her team mates, easily getting into a fight if a friend is involved or crying when she sees an ugly injure. So, her emotions are very fluid, from angry to sensitive, but while playing she usually looks solid and focused. She may play some matches, as the coach usually puts an extra defender when needing to hold a result, and Carol is the right woman for that.

15- Colleen Winter
Position: Defensive midfielder
Age: 21 years old
Sun: Capricorn - Ascendant - Libra - Moon: Capricorn
Mercury: Sagittarius - Venus: Aquarius - Mars: Cancer

There was a true fight for the starting defensive midfielder position between Colleen and Éris, two young and very promising players. Colleen lost, but her colder attitude may put her back on the starting eleven, since Éris is an overconfident hothead and Colleen is a machiavellian heartless woman... yes, things look a bit dark for this specific position, but this has advantages. Colleen works for the win: no feelings, no inventions, just work. She is a workaholic: there are few sightings of her on restaurants or other leisure places, and in all these places she always comes and goes without saying a word to reporters.

16- Sarah Rosas
Position: Right-back
Age: 33 years old
Sun: Cancer - Ascendant: Leo - Moon: Scorpio
Mercury: Cancer - Venus: Gemini - Mars: Virgo

People really like Sarah, and this may be the reason why she was called. The right-back position probably is the weakest in Estelar in number of options, and Sarah is far from being a star in both this National Team and her current domestic team. But she is liked, and this makes her a great team player. She is very supportive of people, listen to their worries and always comes with nice words to help or motivate them. She is considered by many to be the mother of the younger players, sometimes even scolding them after mistakes. And, by the way, she has returned recently from a pregnancy, so she didn't receive much playing time in the last months.

17- Ceres Vlindmann
Position: Attacking midfielder
Age: 30 years old
Sun: Aquarius - Ascendant: Aries - Moon: Sagittarius
Mercury: Capricorn - Venus: Pisces - Mars: Pisces

Ceres is quite the opposite of Beatrix: the second is an intelligent and patient player, while the first is a strong and excellent dribbler. Ceres doesn't waste time in producing an offensive move, and she is hardly taken down by a defender because she is big, very big, tall and muscular, and she claims that this is thanks to the fact that she drinks at least three beers per day... and of course, a lot of workout and supplements. However, she is not a brute: she also shows great interest in the tactical aspects of the game, and in this search for knowledge she will probably want to be a coach in the future.

18- Gia Cruzeiro
Position: Striker
Age: 22 years old
Sun: Aries - Ascendant: Scorpio - Moon: Gemini
Mercury: Aries - Venus: Gemini - Mars: Cancer

A very good player, Gia is probably the most technical player of the entire team, one with huge abilities in making humiliating dribbles on the opponents and beautiful goals. But she hates rules, tactics, and team mates in general. She plays for herself and hates orders, preferring to be free to do what she likes, so she ended on the bench, and is brought when the team really needs someone talented who can make a difference alone. Gia is also very problematic, a heavy user of drugs which have put her on rehabilitation centres twice already. She easily argues and fights with anyone, and a misplaced comment suddenly gets under her skin and makes her an enemy, and she never forgets. Well, what would you expect with this mix of signs... Aries, Scorpio, Gemini... argh!

19- Amber Gondelle
Position: Right winger
Age: 20 years old
Sun: Gemini - Ascendant: Leo - Moon: Pisces
Mercury: Cancer - Venus: Taurus - Mars: Leo

Amber has just started her footballing career, even though she has already 20 years of age. Before that, she was a bartender in one of the greatest clubs in the capital in Estelar, and before that a top student in philosophy... but she likes challenges, because she can be good at practically anything and things tire her. And this is working in football as well, in which Amber has a great future... if she really wants to stay playing. But on the relationship with other players she is very nice, and considered to be the best poker player, because this is also another things she is very good at.

20- Isabel "Isa" Santiago
Position: Centre-back
Age: 29 years old
Sun: Sagittarius - Ascendant: Aries - Moon: Capricorn
Mercury: Sagittarius - Venus: Capricorn - Mars: Aquarius

Isa and Carol are team mates in the domestic league, and they make a good pair of solid defenders, with similar styles but which are efficient together. However, Isa has an history with injuries and this ended putting her as the fourth option in the position. But she works hard and is very ambitious, and due to this always comes back strong after injuries. Isa is also a very good header, and few people win an aerial battle against her. However, recent personal difficulties have arisen which have affected her performance: the death of her sister after a car accident, so she avoids car trips whenever she can.

21- Shane Medina
Position: Striker
Age: 27 years old
Sun: Libra - Ascendant: Virgo - Moon: Leo
Mercury: Libra - Venus: Scorpio - Mars: Capricorn

The typical lethal striker. One who isn't a dribbler or someone with nice moves to confuse the opponents, but one who finishes well, really well, especially inside the area. But the ball has to reach her after all for her to show these clinical ability, and so she usually gets playing time only when Estelar is playing with two strikers, with one more talented supporting her and trying to give her assists. A very mediatic player, she is one who loves giving interviews or interacting with her fan clubs, as she also has a career as an actress and has conquered the hearts of many women who follow her jobs, both of them.

22- April Orion
Position: Left winger
Age: 31 years old
Sun: Taurus - Ascendant: Cancer - Moon: Gemini
Mercury: Taurus - Venus: Pisces - Mars: Libra

April comes from an entire family of astrologers, and thus is considered to be the one closest to the stars, and who can help predicting things for her friends. Probably she will be the one who will take a look at the birth charts and the position of the planets on the starry sky and elaborate the horoscopes for each matchday. As a football player, she doesn't have the same ability of Imogene and will probably only play in special conditions, due to injury or when the win is already guaranteed... but she is fast, very fast, even though she isn't as young as before.

23- Callisto Parra
Position: Goalkeeper
Age: 25 years old
Sun: Pisces - Ascendant: Virgo - Moon: Aries
Mercury: Pisces - Venus: Taurus - Mars: Capricorn

Quite a dreamer, Callisto hopes one day to be the starting goalkeeper of Estelar... but, well, this is really a dream right now. Not that she is a bad player, she is a solid goalkeeper and has good statistics, but competition is too difficult for her. But, even though she has these ambitions, she keeps being a generous and nice person to her friends. She knows she is just adding numbers in the squad, but remains happy and proud just to be part of the National Team. She is cute, a nice friend to have after all, I like her too.

24- Áquila Lacerda
Position: Centre-back
Age: 35 years old
Sun: Leo - Ascendant: Taurus - Moon: Aquarius
Mercury: Virgo - Venus: Gemini - Mars: Gemini

Áquila is a versatile player. So, although she is listed here as a centre-back, she also plays really well as a defensive midfielder. So, thinking about this, it is natural to realize that as a defender Áquila plays more up front, challenging the opponent attackers and even attempting several times to go to the opposing area during an aerial move... well, she isn't that sucessful, but sometimes score one goal or another. The oldest player of the squad, Áquila is one who can well control the ball and resists a lot of pressure, and will also shield more controversial characters with excuses to the press.

25- Ellen Castor
Position: Central midfielder
Age: 21 years old
Sun: Aquarius - Ascendant: Aquarius - Moon: Scorpio
Mercury: Capricorn - Venus: Sagittarius - Mars: Capricorn

The last number but, as everyone, not quite everyone but a lot of people anyway say, last but not least, Ellen is a promising player... since five years ago she has been a promising player and still is a promising player. Time is passing, and she really needs to do well in an opportunity to finally be praised as more than a player for the future and avoid becoming a flop. As a central midfielder, she is good at moving around and participating both defensively and offensively, so can be a good weapon when facing fast opponents. Also, on her personal life Ellen is known as the top billiards and pool player of the Players' Pool Challenge, and she loves to play during parties.

Coach: Jupiter Lynx
Age: 44 years old
Sun: Capricorn - Ascendant: Aries - Moon: Virgo
Mercury: Aquarius - Venus: Sagittarius - Mars: Pisces

This is her first professional job after her retirement as a player. For years, Jupiter attempted to invest the money won during her attacking midfielder years, but in the end she got tired at investing on the stock market and accepted the challenge of leading the Estelar National Team in its first international competition. Jupiter is very ambitious, and very demanding, so even though the team is still unexperienced she will expect a lot from them and complain to the players if things go wrong. She is a tactical coach, so will try to make the players behave in specific strategies and moves. But she has a softer side, of course: she always brings her daughter to the matches, and is a good Monopoly player, which means she is someone nice to have during team meetings!

MANAGERIAL STAFF
Manager: Ender Wiggin
Considering he left the Purple Knights on not so good terms after an on the field incident led to his banning for a full season of play, and then he was rather poor in the season after that many did not expect Ender Wiggin to win the Managerial job. That said here he is now, he has instituted a new plan for the Knights that starts with the U18 team led by longtime teammate and friend Mark Tlumach, and then through the U21 squad with Jeremi Krieder. He has made some major changes to the team, phasing out certain players and bringing in younger players to replace them. He has made changes to a defense that was impregnable for much of the last World Cup qualifiers. For the most part the starting lineup for the A and the B squads will remain the same, and he has seen to that, but he also has opened up competition, saying that every week a new lineup could be put on the field and that starters should not rest on their laurels.

Assistant Manager: Elijah Knickerbocker
Elijah Knickerbocker has been kept on as the full national teams assistant manager for one final competition to help ease the change from the old authority to the new. Many expect Krieder or Tlumach to take over for the him for the qualfiiers, but everything is up in the air and many think that Wiggin being a loose cannon historically may do some odd things.

GOALKEEPERS

1 - Xavier Troubador - Fadron Flight 0 Caps, 22 Years Old
The biggest change that has been made by Wiggin is in goal as Myung Wook Yu has been unceremoniously taken off the starting sheet and replace by young keeper Xavier Troubador. Troubador has been one of the best Goalkeepers in the Taeshani league for years and this change is not altogether unsurprising, but historically people have kept their positions on the national team until retirement, and Wook Yu will remain a backup goalie during qualifiers but will not be around in this tournament.

12 - Temptress Avalon - Tintown Terrapins 0 Caps, 21 Years Old
The backup goalkeeper for the Copa is Temptress who is a strong goalkeeper and a very integral part in keeping the starting Goalkeeper race intact.

24 - Gregoire Avery - New Capetown Falcons 0 Caps, 18 Years Old
Gregoire Avery is also a strong young Goalkeeper.

DEFENDERS

2 - LB, William Bloomsbury - Bayern-Algaer 40 Caps, 26 Years Old
On the left side of defense William Bloomsbury will not always bomb forward like Broadway but he is a very strong fullback and is a very big part of the Purple Knights defense and will stay back much more than his full back counterpart.

3 - CB, Andrew Chesnut - Los Riosa Monstas 3 Caps, 22 Years Old
Andrew Chesnut is new to the teams defense and will be the big question mark for the team. Replacing a player who was a strong part of the Knights defense in Cody Brahms will be no small feat. The Knights are in capable hands with the young center back but will he adapt to the international game fast enough to help the team to success.

4 - CB, Orion Black - Eastweald (Cosumar) 40 Caps, 2 Goals, 25 Years Old
Orion Black is perhaps the most traveled of the Purple Knights defenders and will likely be the key part of the Knights defense. He will hold the team together and keep the back for together and pull together a strong alignment.

5 - RB, Benedict Broadway - Fadron Flight 40 Caps, 26 Years Old
Benedict Broadway is a strong offensive fullback and will speed up and down the field to help the Purple Knights attack, and will oftentimes hurry back to be a key part of the Purple Knights defense.

20 - Alan Testudio - Atlantea Hurricanes 3 Caps, 26 Years Old
Alan Testudio is the strongest pure Center Back on the team and will be called upon late to close out games and sometimes maybe even be thrown into the field to play as another striker due to his strength in the air.

21 - Moki Nguyen - Unattached 0 Caps, 21 Years Old
Another one of the new players called up Moki Nguyen is a start center back and center midfielder. He is a strong player and has been a key part of the U21 team in recent years and now will look to be a part of the senior squad.

22 - Maxwell McMichael - Knightspurs 2 Caps, 24 Years Old
McMichael seems poised to be the best defender off the bench, both as a fullback and as a late defensive midfield sub to keep the Purple Knights on top in late game situations. McMichael has been having a strong few seasons and seems likely to be a big part of the team going forward.

MIDFIELDERS

6 - CDM, Dietrich Baden - Real Chinchinhua 2 Caps, 26 Years Old
Dietrich Baden has been given the reigns of the front of the taeshani defense. At least for the moment. Baden will take long free kicks and may become a key part of the Taeshani defense.

7 - LM, Josmer Medici - FC Burgess (Calanian Union) 10 Caps, 26 Years Old
Josmer Medici is a strong left footed player with speed and runs right down the touchline with pace. He is at sometimes a maniac and can get into unnecessary fouls but overall the team can really use him and he is probably the biggest hope for the Purple Knights in getting wins. He will take free kicks from the right side and the right hand side corners.

8 - RM, Lysander Ying Uing - Bayern Phoenix 95 Caps, 6 Goals, 29 Years OldCaptain
Ying Uing has been a strong leader over the past few years and will continue to be the leader for the foreseeable future. Ying Uing is a strong Right Midfielder and the best free kick taker on the field. He will take in-swinging corners from the left and free kicks from the left side.

9 - CAM, Xander McDrew - Bayern Phoenix 89 Caps, 44 Goals, 28 Years OldVice-Captain
The historic use of a striker as an Attacking Midfielder continues under the tutelage of the coach who as a player was the beginning of that trend for the Purple Knights. McDrew may have to get used to the idea of creating goals instead of scoring them, but with the help of club teammate Ying Uing, the second longest tenured player on the team, McDrew has a chance to really help the Purple Knights a they play in this tournament.

15 - Ignatius Thaddeus - Bayern-Algaer 23 Caps, 27 Years Old
Ignatius Thaddeus is one of the best Center Midfielders on the squad, but sadly for him the team plays a diamond and now true center midfielder is needed. That said he is a serviceable Right midfielder and is probably the best player from the midfield bench and will likely continue to see a lot of time.

16 - Ansel Bone - Iskara Daii (Starblaydia) 3 Caps, 26 Years Old
Playing for one of the most historic football clubs in the world is apparently not it is all cracked up to be. Ansel Bone is one of two Taeshani players playing for Iskara Daii at the moment and he is doing rather well for them, but it has not exactly transmitted to national team success and that has many people worried about his success.

17 - Jonas Boggart - Knightspurs 0 Caps, 25 Years Old
Jonas Boggart is an interesting selection for the Purple Knights midfield and is not necessarily a strong player overall, but he is definitely a piece that can be used. He can shore up the defense late in the game or he can provide a presence for a full 90 that can completely hinder an opponent's ability to score.

18 - Emile Marchond - X Island Marauders - 0 Caps, 24 Years Old
Emile Marchond probably has the best left foot on the team and will likely be a sub if the Purple Knights opponent's have a deficiency
on the right side of the field. The team overall has lacked a good left foot and with Josmer Medici starting and Marchond on the bench it looks like there is a strong left footed presence for the team going forward.

19 - Asher Victorious - Taeshan City Miners 3 Caps, 24 Years Old
Asher Victorious is one of the main changes seen in the squad by Ender Wiggin. He has been removed from the A squad, but only so that he can get more playing time with his club, and so that he can become a stronger player overall. So that he can one day be a bigger part of the team as a whole.

STRIKERS

10 - RS, - Peter Wiggin - Blacklake Blues 8 Caps, 1 Goal, 24 Years Old
The on head-scratcher among the starters is Peter Wiggin. Many chalk it off to nepotism, but others mark it off to the fact that Wiggin and van Neymar have been scoring goals at a nice clip for the past few years and the Purple Knights need to score for the offense to work. If Wiggin can provide any sense of this than he is likely to be a big part of the offense going forward.

11 - LS, Miles Snavely - Kernansquillec City(Kernansquillec) 0 Caps, 18 Years Old
In Miles Snavely we have a young scorer who has already proven himself with a more than impressive debut season for his side in Kernansquillec. Many think the first call Ender Wiggin made was bringing him into the squad. Snavely is a very strong scorer and many think he could be the player that takes Taeshan back to the heights it once new.

13 - Landon van Neymar - Blacklake Blues 0 Caps, 20 Years Old
Another one of the contingent of youthful players on this roster van Neymar is a very fast winger and a very keen scorer. With Blacklake he has been a strong part of their offense and now he is likely to be one of the best players off the bench for the Purple Knights as they look to win their first Copa Rushmori.

14 - Taylor Van Zant - Ojian Orangemen 0 Caps, 25 Years Old
Taylor Van Zant is quite an interesting selection on this roster. The goalscoring record of Ojian is not something to be proud of but perhaps Wiggin sees something in this young striker that can be used. He is quite fast, but he hasn't exactly had his shooting boots on for a few years, then again he does play for Ojian and that can't help.

23 - Val Valjean - Real Atlantea 2 Caps, 6 Goals, 23 Years Old
What do you have to do to start if you are Val Valjean? Many have looked at him as a stater after his two very impressive games for the Purple Knights in the last two years. A hat trick in a third place game in the last Copa Rushmori and a Hat trick in a qualifier. But no other games, and now with new management, and perhaps some nepotism he is back to square one.

Seats: 85,600
Physical Address: Strad van Berest (Strad 19) 36-125, Praetors' Point
Description: The Stadium of Legends, South Yerfilag's largest sport venue and home to its national soccer team, is a state-of-the-art stadium located in the southwest corner of its capital city, Praetors' Point, on the corner of 36th Avenue and 19th Street. Its capacity of 85,600 (during the main association football season) also makes it an ideal venue for many other nationally-oriented non-sport contests, such as the national musical talent contest (South Yerfilag Sings!) and the National Cheerleading and Dance Finals, which are held using special platforms to avoid wearing down the turfed surfaces. It is located 16 km away from the National Plaza, home to South Yerfilag's national government offices, and 21 km away from ZedCel Park, home to South Yerfilag's national baseball team.

STAFF:
Manager: Morten Rasmussen, 69
Record in Charge: P 260, W 202, D 35, L 23, GF 571, GA 204, GD +367, WP 77.7%
After guiding the Terns to three World Cup finals in a row, Rasmussen added to his managerial CV by retaining the Copa Rushmori title on home soil, winning back the Cup of Champions, and reaching five World Cup semi-finals out of the last eight editions. He has had a wonderful time at the helm of the Terns, but as with all good things, they must come to an end. Yes, Rasmussen has announced that at the aged of 69, the next World Cup cycle will be his last in charge of the Terns, and so this will likely be his last Copa Rushmori. Which explains some of the squad selections, anyway. The time for revolution is upon us, and Rasmussen's place in history is assured whatever happens..

With this tournament marking the return of the Terns to the Copa after The Big Freeze prevented them from safely entering the last edition, Rasmussen has selected a lot of younger players who are making debuts in this squad, with an eye on gaining experience for one more big push at the World Cup title in WC73 before his replacement takes over. We'll remain one of the teams to avoid despite not realistically hoping to win the tournament this time around, and Rasmussen will be happy with a strong showing that builds unity. The last thing he wants to do is to leave his replacement with an ageing squad and no blooded youngsters waiting to take over, so, we're not expecting fireworks this time, guys. Then again, with the depth of talent in the national league greater than it ever has been despite The Big Freeze, and the fact that so many of these players starred together for the u-21s, who says this skilled and balanced selection of nicely rested players hasn't got the ability to win it again? Heia Terns!

Assistant Manager: Iulian Finnibaturinn, 46
With the departure of Steffan Pekarik, Rasmussen turned to Surtsey Island Gulls coach Finnibaturinn to fill the seat to the right of him in the dugout. Finnibaturinn played for the Terns a huge ninety-seven times, four times as captain, and scoring four goals in the process. He might have retired just before Rasmussen took charge of the Terns, but that doesn't mean he was ever unknown to his new boss, with Rasmussen trying to sign him several times whilst FC Axel Heiburg manager. Pekarik was a born winner, and a tough fighter, and it is thought that Rasmussen has brought in Finnibaturinn because he shares those exact attributes. Once thought of as down and out, he fought his way back into the Terns squad after having found himself at imploded league after imploded league, with a move back to Surtsey and a Champions' Cup medal at Urbizania Wanderers to show for his efforts. Never gave up as a player, and doesn't do so as a coach either. An inspired appointment from Rasmussen.

PLAYERS:
#1 - GK - Leif Ulsletten - Age 32 - Image Red Star Severny Image - 40 Caps, 1 Assist
Originally making it into a Copa squad thanks to Alexis Sand carrying a minor niggle, Rasmussen once again used the Copa to turn to Red Star goalkeeper Ulsletten and give him a promotion. That time, it was into the number one jersey, and he never looked back as he played every minute of the campaign whilst only conceding a single goal. Iulian Kirilaunen's retirement means Ulsletten can finally move up to being first choice full stop, and he will take what he's learned whilst being an integral part of Red Star's surge up the league with him. His Copa performances alone have shown that he clearly has talent enough to become a fiercely talented international goalkeeper, and there is no uncertainty or concern amongst supporters that he'll be able to make this step up. Fast, nimble, and with excellent distribution - his long throws can often be the first line of attack for his sides, as proved by his assist.

#2 - DR - Espen Erevik - Age 26 - Image East Franz Athletic Image - 23 Caps, 1 Assist, 2 Goals
Guus Tuulari's reign at East Franz is a tough one, a hard one, and a strong one. Only the toughest players remain in the matchday squads, and Espen Erevik is one of those without a shadow of a doubt. Built like a bulldozer, he is apparently one of the hardest trainers that any coach could hope to instruct, and he has worked hard at his mobility and speed over the past few years to become a complete full-back. He might be a little too defensive for the pioneering runs that Rasmussen usually requires of his wing-backs, but if this means he frees up the midfielders to show more creativity then with our current squad balance that is just perfect. Impressed enough in the past to keep his spot ahead of the exciting youngster Teitur Ronkainen, Erevik will need to shine here if he is to convince Rasmussen he deserves his spot ahead of Ronkainen and behind Bjerregaard in future squads as well.

#3 - DC - Olaf Strauss - Age 26 - Image Red Star Severny Image - 38 Caps, 2 Assists, 2 Goals
With a calm head and a mature reading of the game, it's not hard to see why Strauss broke into the Red Star first team so young. An absolute mountain of a man, even by Valhallan standards, he is incredibly tough to beat in the air, and few are the players who can find a way to outpace him and his ten-yard-strides. Or that's how they feel, anyway. A leader of men, he has a natural charisma and fearlessness that inspires others to play better around him, and it's not difficult to see why he's taken to international football like a duck to water. He's got a big future ahead of him, that's for sure, and this jump into the Terns first team will no doubt have bigger teams than Red Star looking at him with hungry eyes.

#4 - DC - Willem Otkupshchikov - Age 31 - Image Gwinevra Barbarians (APX) Image - 76 Caps, 1 Assist, 4 Goals - CAPTAIN
Otkupshchikov represents one of those rare success stories where a player can grow and mature way down the leagues with a lesser team before a bigger team notices him and takes a chance on him, only to see said player blossom on the bigger stage and totally steal the limelight. Otkupshchikov did just that at Bjarnarey after having spent the first four years of his career Divisjon-jumping with Waldenoya Bears, and he now finds himself pinched across to Apox to play for Gwinevra Barbarians. Even better, when Morten Salo being rested gave Otkupshchikov a chance in the starting line-up, he didn't waste it, and seized the opportunity to stay here. Tall, solid, and with an incredible work ethic, you won't see Otkupshchikov popping up in the opposition box much, but you will always be able to rely on him to be in the right place at the right time in his own box. Years spent learning his craft internationally with the uniquely talented Aapo Nordenberg have only seen Willem add to his game, and he now finds himself the captain of his nation accordingly.

#5 - DL - Niels Kruse - Age 30 - Image Revolutionaries (EUR) Image - 50 Caps, 9 Assists, 4 Goals
The most patient man in Valhallan football. Niels Kruse has been busily beavering away in Eura for the best part of his career, and as the Terns scouts and Rasmussen finally started making the trips to Revolutionaries to see then-Tern Morten Salo play, Kruse decided to handily make his own bid for NT-inclusion by having the best season of his career so far. Busy, hard-working, and with superb fitness levels, Kruse made the most of doubts over Vaaraniemi's match readiness to take the reserve spot behind Kungas-Vaga in the squad, and with the heroic World Cup winning captain finally retired, he has finally ascended to take his rightful and hard-earned place in the starting line-up.

#6 - DMC - Anders Holzhauser - Age 30 - Image Northbrook Diamonds FK Image - 95 Caps, 11 Assists, 9 Goals - Vice-Captain
It took two consecutive Copa appearances for Holzhauser to provide performances good enough to convince Rasmussen, but he's been along in every Terns squad ever since. Holzhauser is a strong and tough-tackling defensive midfielder, and has made quite an impact on Rasmussen. With a commanding presence, he quickly grabs the eye as he marshals the defence behind him, and though he is able to fill in at centre back should he be required to, Holzhauser has the urge and the ability to push forwards in possession of the ball and add a different dimension to the attack in the process. All this international exposure was bound to create a big move for him eventually however, and he now turns out for Divisjon One champions Northbrook Diamonds FK, who splashed the cash necessary to get Issington to part with one of their prized assets. Fans already think him cheap at twice the price. Replacing the mercurial Eikr Lillehammer won't be easy, but if anyone has the ability to do it, Holzhauser does.

#7 - MC - Alexsandr Kiriyenko - Age 23 - Image Northbrook Diamonds FK Image - 3 Caps, 1 Assist
Without a doubt, Kiriyenko is one of the most controversial players of the last few years. Born and raised in the capital, he was brought up a Young Boys fan, but was brought through the ranks by East Franz and was already in the first team and highly thought of by Tuulari when Northbrook Diamonds turned his head and made public bid after public bid to unsettle him. After getting their man, they turned him into a dynamic utility midfielder, and poor East Franz were left seeing ghosts when he scored against them on the last day of the season to clinch the title for Northbrook. He celebrated, too. He's not out to make friends, is Kiriyenko, he's out there for one reason and one reason only... to win. Was somewhat surprisingly left out of the World Cup squad by Rasmussen, and perhaps that's why he's been thrown straight into the starting line-up at the Copa; so future managers know exactly what he can do.

#8 - MC - Eidur Gunnlaugsson - Age 25 - Image Spartangrad (EUR) Image - 57 Caps, 22 Assists, 12 Goals
It takes a special kind of talent to get called up into the starting line-up of the Terns aged just twenty, but that is just what Eidur Gunnlaugsson did. The famed Haapa-Mechelin Youth Academy of Axel Heiburg had had something of a dry spell in terms of output, but Gunnlaugsson's emergence turned that on its head. Tempted across to Eura by Spartangrad, their gain is Axel Heiburg's loss, as a long list of impressive performances from Gunnlaugsson for the Terns will testify readily. Quick, combative, and with a visionary eye for a pass, Gunnlaugsson could be one of the Multiverse's great deep lying playmakers if he continues to develop like this. Possesses an almost psychic relationship with Konigstein in the centre of the park, but will have to develop his game with other players now. Which is good in the long run, I suppose.

#9 - ST - Rauno Bickermann - Age 26 - Image 1830 Cathair (AUD) Image - 52 Caps, 7 Assists, 34 Goals
Rauno Bickermann's emergence in the Red Star starting eleven coincided neatly with their run up the table, and this is no coincidence. Powerful, strong on the ball, tough to shake off and with a knack of finding the right channels to run into at the right time, Bickermann's touch-to-shot ratio is impressive to say the least. Scoring goals is the first, second, and last thing on his mind, but even so he finds the time to play the supportive target man if he's asked to, holding onto the ball and releasing a team-mate through on goal at just the right moment. Bickermann possesses a unique talent, and with the vast experience he's already picked up playing alongside some of the other strikers to grace the national team, he is developing into a player of the highest calibre. He takes the famous number nine jersey accordingly, worn by some of the greatest players the nation has ever seen. And there are whispers that Bickermann could be as good as Skye one day, so watch out for him and his ambition. Red Star can tell you a thing or two about his ambition, too - his recent move to 1830 Cathair may have seen Red Star acquire two international strikers in return, but he will still be very much missed in Severny.

#10 - AMC - Sim Lefebvre - Age 23 - Image FC1. Surtsey Island Gulls Image - 13 Caps, 9 Assists, 2 Goals
Demarchelier, Villeneuve, Lefebvre. There used to be ellipsis and question marks in that sentence. Not anymore. The Rochefroides community of Ellismare is getting a reputation for producing strong technical players with a flair and gift for playing exciting attacking football, and Lefebvre looks for all the world like he's set to become the final part of a Rochefroides triptych in the central attacking midfield position. Skilled, thoughtful, and with a deft touch with either boot, Lefebvre is the name on the back of all the replica shirts at the moment for his club, and who knows, perhaps a strong showing in the number ten shirt of the Terns at the Copa will see them flying off the shelf in the navy and white of his country, too. If he plays like he did from the bench at the World Cup, he has nothing to worry about.

#11 - ST - Finn Kirkkegaard - Age 25 - Image SK Franz Josef City Image - 28 Caps, 3 Assists, 9 Goals
Yes, his grandson. SK Nasjonale Hauker's first ever player called up to the Terns saw that particular achievement overshadowed a little by the identity of the player in question. Sol Kirkkegaard, legendary first ever manager of the Terns and current co-President of the WCC, had a son named Julius. Julius wasn't much good at the sport and only made a handful of appearances in the lower leagues for Energie Møllna-Grei. Julius' son Finn, however, has proved to be a deadly and accurate striker of the ball. With several seasons' worth of goals now in Divisjon One, and a handful of impressive performances for the u-21s, Kirkkegaard made it to the senior squad on his own merit, and the nature of his performances from the bench last cycle have led Rasmussen to conclude he'd make a better strike partner for Bickermann than Larsen. Praise indeed. It also led SK Franz Josef City to believe he'd be a better fit in their squad than Nasjonale's. Predictably, they got their man, and both club and country have a player and a half, here.

#12 - GK - Gunnsteinn Moskowitz - Age 22 - Image FC1. Bjarnarey Flotilla Image - 3 Caps
It isn't all that often that a player comes from so far abroad to launch their international Terns career like this, but that's exactly what Moskowitz did. And at the tender age of twenty-two as well. Young for a goalkeeper, ex-pat tongues were set wagging by the performances of this young man in the V-League, and young Gunnsteinn got a call-up from Rasmussen at the World Cup as a result. Surely one for the future rather than the present day, it is hoped that the experience will greatly benefit this young man in the future tournament he will surely be present at. A future number one for his country? Almost certainly. He may be yet to play for his new club Bjarnarey, but Flotilla fans will still be singing his name if he gets on the pitch at the Copa.

#13 - GK - Dimitar Brandt-Caledon - Age 25 - Image Holdenberg (EUR) Image - Uncapped
Like Kruse, Brandt-Caledon has had to wait for his chance to get a call-up from the Euran league. Maybe it's just a long way for scouts to travel, I don't know. A relatively unknown figure in the Federation, Euran supporters will be able to tell you plenty about this rangy and talented shot-stopper, and Rosenmeyer's slip in form is Brandt-Caledon's good fortune. Time for Dimitar to get his chance and show just why he's rated abroad.

#14 - AMC - Boris Jenssen - Age 25 - Image Red Star Severny Image - 3 Caps
One of many players who are giving Red Star fans some serious optimism for the future with or without Rauno Bickermann, hopes are high that Jenssen has the potential to be a long-term member of Terns squads. With a delicate eye for a pass and a level of technical skill and close ball control that you don't often see with Polarians - who tend to play in a slightly more straight-forward manner generally speaking - young Boris breaks the mold a little bit. Bursting forwards with pace, you will often see him pirouette or fake the wrong pass in order the baffle defenders, and it often works as well. An exciting prospect who shone for Red Star last season.

#15 - DL - Eirikur Sigurdsson - Age 24 - Image East Franz Athletic Image - 8 Caps, 1 Assist
Fast, nimble, hotheaded and fond of playing a long way up the pitch - Sigurdsson is everything Rasmussen likes in Bjerregaard but skilled on the other foot. When Kruse gives him the chance to feature, Sigurdsson will be itching to show that anything the right-back can do, he can do on the left, and his performances for East Franz in the league opposite Erevik have certainly shown he is capable of that. Guus Tuulari has drilled discipline and a strong positional sense of awareness into this pacy full-back however, and that gives him the defensive edge to his game that Rasmussen's formation will demand of him. One for the future, certainly, as Kruse is already getting on in years.

#16 - DR - Teitur Ronkainen - Age 24 - Image RSK Longyearbyen Town Image - Uncapped
People have been waiting for this day for a long time. Teitur Ronkainen has been a long-admired part of RSK Longyearbyen's matchday squads, and I don't think it is any surprise whatsoever that his best season so far coincided with a year in which his club were actually leading Divisjon One at the half-way stage. It seemed improbable, and of course we all know they slipped down the table in the end, but it certainly wasn't due to any fault of Teitur's. Stacked, quick, and with a wicked eye for the timing of the tackle, Ronkainen is the kind of player who isn't afraid to make sacrificial tackles and take a yellow or red card if it means the other team don't score a crucial goal... but who then get's the tackle spot on and avoids a foul altogether. It's almost like he doesn't know how good he is and how good he could be, sometimes.

#17 - DMC - Karl-Franz Klemmensen - Age 23 - Image Jan Mayen Islanders Image - 11 Caps, 1 Assist, 1 Goal
Impressive for a relatively poor Jan Mayen side, Klemmensen has certainly benefited from his club's poor squad decisions in recent years to gain the exposure required for a call-up here. WHich is only fair, because his club has benefited from his performances for them. Hard-headed, tough to beat, and fully capable of marking a dangerous attacker out of a match without touching the ball, Klemmensen has a lot to offer the Terns. Highly thought of by a lot of influential coaches in the game, it is thought his club could be tempted to cash in on his fierce talent should he shine on the international stage. So, clubs, watch out for this one. He may have something to prove.

#18 - ST - Jonas Hertzberg - Age 24 - Image Northbrook Diamonds FK Image - Uncapped
'Rescued' from Northbrook Zenith by Novaya Sibir Reds, he was then 'rescued' back to Northbrook by the Diamonds at the start of last season. Without looking too much into whether his sudden breakthrough success has more to do with Niko Marek's tactics and the service he receives from his team, Hertzberg certainly had a hugely impressive first season in Divisjon One, and by all accounts you'd expect him to go on and repeat that feat next year. Despite this, he is still seen as something of a risk by many Twitchers, and not even all Diamonds fans are happy with him being their current cutting edge option up front. Nonetheless, the stats don't lie, and if you feed Hertzberg he'll score you goals. And at the end of the day, isn't that all you want from a striker?

#19 - MC - Mateusz Wolff - Age 26 - Image East Franz Athletic Image - 39 Caps, 16 Assists, 3 Goals
Mateusz is the younger half-brother of striker Torsten, and whilst both were in the squad it marked the first time brothers have represented the Terns since Niko and Mathias Marek in the first ever squads. Originally a talented attacking midfielder, Rasmussen saw his long term role as a more battling and combative box-to-box player, and the presence of other attacking midfielders in squads almost strong-armed Wolff into making the tactical switch. He hasn't looked back. Set pieces, assists, wicked passes and tricks and flair a-plenty, Wolff has long been described as breaking the mold of Valhallan football, and indeed to look at him on the pitch you'd never guess he was born here, grew up here, and has just returned home to Divisjon One having not actually played for all that long in Apox. And yes, he's also heard all the wolf jokes.

#20 - ST - Kjartan Grndstrom - Age 23 - Image SK Franz Josef City Image - 9 Caps, 3 Assists, 3 Goals
Tricks, flicks, snapshots and mazy dribbles, Grndstrom offers something different to almost any other Polarian striker in any tier right now, making him the perfect joker coming off the bench. He'll certainly be keen to make his mark like he certainly did at the World Cup, and he will be itching to bring his youthful exuberance to the fore when he has the chance to do his favourite thing - terrorise tired defenders. He does it for SK, and he's done it for the u-21s. Now, he does it for the Terns too. A certain former number nine from his club is supposedly a big fan of this young man, I won't tell you who, but his name rhymes with "Emo Pie". Will he be able to live up to such a strong recommendation? If his form at the World Cup is anything to go by - absolutely. All he needs is a sniff of a chance, and now he's fighting Kirkkegaard for club spots as well as national ones, he'll only get hungrier.

#21 - MC - Johannes Skjoldebrand - Age 24 - Image SC Kiel Image - Uncapped
When teams like SC Kiel have seasons like SC Kiel just had, people start to look in depth at the squad and the management for the reason why. On this occasion, they should probably be looking at Johannes Skjoldebrand. A regular for Ole van Jendrisen's u-21s side, his all-action box-to-box hard-working style will immediately endear Skjoldebrand to fans, even if he doesn't do much of the eye-catching move-finishing assists or goals. He motors away though, keeps things ticking over with his accurate short and long-range passing, and is exceptionally good at reading the play and breaking up opposing attacks with his tracking and interceptions. An immensely useful player to have in your squad, Skjoldebrand will seize this chance with both hands if he has any sense. Not that he'd tell you that; he's one of the most humble players you could ever hope to meet.

#22 - DC - Victor Otkupshchikov - Age 24 - Image Northbrook Diamonds FK Image - Uncapped
A long-term partner of Miroshnichenko for the u-21s, the fact that a ready made partnership is sitting on the bench should be all the excitement this young man needs when it comes to people he's going to be playing with. And yet, it won't be, because he is the younger brother of national captain Willem. They may not have always seen eye-to-eye as youngsters, apparently, but we've seen them play together in training sessions enough to know that should Rasmussen decide to utilise them - the third set of brothers in the same Terns squad will be a more than capable centre-back pairing if called upon. Marek, Wollf, Otkpushchikov. Used in rotation with Nordenberg last season as Diamonds lifted their fourth title in five seasons, Otkupshchikov the Young is fierce, ready, and eager to impress the fans, the manager, and his brother.

#23 - DC - Iosef Miroshnichenko - Age 23 - Image East Franz Athletic Image - 11 Caps, 1 Assist, 1 Goal
The third member of East Franz Athletic's starting defence to receive a call-up to the Terns this Copa, Miroshnichenko is another in the increasing line of powerful defenders coming out of the Spires' academy. Having outshone the younger Otkupshchikov brother in the Chicks' last u-21s DBC appearance he followed it up with some strong performances in the league, keeping the likes of Moller, Bickermann, Churin, and Akerhausen very quiet indeed. Accordingly, he received the phone-call from Rasmussen. He perhaps has some things to learn in terms of his timing in the tackle and when to spring the offside trap, but the raw potential here is huge. He has the chance to stake a claim for many future Terns sides, and certainly didn't do his prospects any harm whatsoever during his impressive World Cup campaign.

TACTICS: "The Pythagorean" 2-3-3-2
The Polarian game is methodical, abrasive, technical, and physical. They won't give you a second on the ball to think, and they won't hold back in the tackle. In the centre of the park they will play a possession based midfield game of triangles, though a defence splitting pass could come at any moment towards the fast and direct attack. Rasmussen plays a narrow, modified version of the diamond formation dubbed the Pythagorean by the sporting press. It is reliant upon two key triangular sets of players that transcend the normal "rows" of player in conventional formation layouts. Strauss, Otkupshchikov, and Holzhauser will act as the defensive triangle, and Lefebvre, Bickermann, and Kirkkegaard will counter at the other end as the offensive triangle. Holzhauser and Lefebvre's roles in this scheme are absolutely crucial, as their job is to support and unlock the other two players in their respective triangles, providing outlets and creativity in abundance. Kiriyenko and Gunnlaugsson are part of a compact and creative midfield that will supply steel or style whenever the situation demands it, as well as partnering up with their respective full backs to form a kind of "bumper" that sweeps the flanks in attack or folds in to protect the penalty area in defence. Fitness of all players will therefore be key to the success of this plan; not just the constant positional changing demanded of Holzhauser and Lefebvre, but the athleticism of Erevik and Kruse in particular will also be tested to the limit as their roles require frequent attacking. It's not quite a 4-3-3, it's not quite a 4-1-2-1-2, and it's not quite a W-M... Well, alright, it's more or less a W-M with a focus on two specific trios of players. It's the Pythagorean.

Psychotic Dictatorship

Valentin Jahr was reading the papers with a twinkle in his eye and no shortage of satisfaction in the smirk at the corner of his mouth as he sipped his early morning coffee. People were angry with him, and that's the way he liked it. Generally, it meant he was doing something right.

On this particular occasion, it was the signing of Finn Kirkkegaard that had ruffled feathers. He perused the pages of the famous Sportnyheter physical edition on its light blue paper, and it was still one of the dominant stories. The signing of Ken Rickwright to replace the retired Domeka Iriarte had been news for a while, and would no doubt stay quiet now until the start of pre-season, but this signing of Kirkkegaard's grandson was still rumbling on weeks later.

"They're going to ruin him" - said one particularly aggrieved columnist. Though, Valentin had met this guy on several occasions, and he knew for a fact he was a Young Boys fan. Evidently, Young Boys fans had trusted Kirkkegaard at a side as small as Nasjonale when they'd sold him to them in the first place, but the Young Boys fans were now treating a move to SK as some kind of affront to human nature. Thing was, it was just basic economics.

"He won't even be first team there, surely?" - said one member of the public on the 'have your say' type pages. Valentin snorted derisively at that. For one thing, he knew for a fact Rickwright was going to use Grndstrom and Kirkkegaard either side of Pedrinho next season. And for another, the illusion that their opinions were worth anything that was given to members of the public since the dawn of social media was a source of endless amusement to him. Besides, Grndstrom couldn't force his way into the first XI of the Terns, what on earth convinced this guy he'd still be ahead of Kirkkegaard in any situation where they were competing for the same spot?

"Jahr is just a bully, of course Nasjonale couldn't stand up to SK when a man like him is writing the cheques" - said another. Well, duh. That was the entire point, wasn't it? Nasjonale are a small fish compared to SK, why on earth should he not be able to buy any of their players who fancied a move across the capital? The Landstadt was a cathedral of football and any player would be happy to move to SK.

Of course, the ink on Finn Kirkkegaard's signature was barely dry when Rasmussen announced his squad for the Copa Rushmori, and obviously Valentin had managed to score himself free tickets to most of the matches. Later that day he'd be flying out to Saintland, in fact. He patted the tickets in their envelope as they lay on the expensively sourced vintage coffee table and smiled again. It's weird, being rich and powerful. You spend all that time and money worrying about it and getting up to where you want to be, and from that moment on people just give you stuff for free. The tickets, the coffee table, an almost endless supply of his trademark light pink suits... he had it made, and it meant he could all his time and attention into winding people up and furthering the cause of the Griffons. The more people were talking about him, the less they were hassling his team and his players, he reasoned.

Who knows, perhaps there was another future Griffons player out there he's spot from the stands. If that was the case, he'd even pay for tickets himself to watch all the matches said player was in. He wasn't going out there for a holiday, after all. The chairman of SK Franz Josef City is never off the job. It's an endless performance. And endless calling. An endless devotion. And that was just the way Valentin liked it.

A month of before the Copa Rushmori

"Right, so run this past me again? Who're we meeting?"

"Again? I've already told you three times. We're going to meet the PR Head and Community Liaison Officer of SzaTec, as well as the Under-Secretary for Sport and Recreation at SzaTec Towers - they're apparently interested in our recent success with the team and want to put in place something more "concrete", whatever that means."

Moli took another drag on a cigarette. It was one of her few vices, along with alcohol and periodical violence, and she hated herself equally for it, but never had taken the time to give it up. The pair sat on the balcony of Moli's flat, which offered a view down onto one of the rather soulless parks which the government had begrudgingly installed. The sun curled higher over the cirrus clouds which were plastered over the Bay of Karvatla, slowly bathing the apartment block in yellow light. Dazdan sat in a wicket chair, feet up on the railing, with a glass of unidentifiable juice in one hand - it was slightly too early to be drinking.

"Sounds like a load of bullshit."
"It most probably is."

The two, along with the rest of Szavoda's mildly successful Cup of Harmony squad, had just returned from Krytenia and things were returning to normal for a couple of months before the commencement of Szavoda's first appearance in the regional tournament; the Copa Rushmori. The team had enjoyed unprecedented success in Krytenia, somehow reaching the quarter finals of the illustrious competition, where even then they were respectable against Barunia, going down 4-2 in a game closer than the scoreline suggested. The players had returned to their homes, jobs or Universities, whilst Moli and Dazdan had gone back to doing what they did best; mindlessly drinking away the evenings in posh downtown bars, whilst Moli disappeared for days on end and Dazdan made a pitiful effort to return to work.

Out of the blue one day, Dazdan had received an e-mail from some corporate cog inside SzaTec, the country's largest company in terms of well, anything: employees, turnover, physical size - their Headquarters, SzaTec Towers, were by far and away the largest building in Vfana. SzaTec, whilst originally making technical small parts for factory machines, had now branched out infinitely, and were involved in just about everything: they had a major share in Szavoda's flag-carrier airline, SNA (CHA in Szavda), owned several shipping companies, as well as Szavoda's largest telecommunications company. They also had an interest in sports, hence the e-mail, they owned a number of rugby clubs, had the title rights to the largest stadium in the city (The SzaTec Arena) and had SzaTec board members on the boards of pretty much every sports association in the country. Presumably they wanted a piece of the football pie.

It had read, rather tersely, that a couple of executives, as well as the Government, had requested a meeting with the 'Official Head' of the SFA. They had tried to find the 'Official Head' of the SFA through professional channels, but because it was run so informally, they had to trace it through the matches themselves, and had identified Dazdan as the apparent head. He'd replied swiftly that he was merely the joint-chief, and that Moli was equally important and needed to be involved in any discussions.

Fast forward a couple of weeks and they had scheduled a meeting, in the imperious SzaTec Towers, which Moli didn't want as it played into the hands of the business giants, but no other location had made itself available, and SzaTec were adamant about their own choice. The meeting was scheduled for 11am, unusually late for Szavoda, and Moli drove the two of them from her suburban flat into the concrete heart of the city. It was a typical Szavda business day, and the Business District was quietly humming. SzaTec Towers were either a monument to national progress, or a damn eyesore, depending on your opinion and socio-political standpoint. Two towers, one standing at 351m and the other at 370m, and were made of wrought iron and covered entirely in glass panes. As they were expected by SzaTec, they were granted permission to park in the building's underground facility, parking her crimson red sports car amongst the other luxury cars of the company's executives, and they made their up through the heart of the building to the conference centre. Moli was dressed to impress, with a fitted black skirt, white blouse and jacket. Along with this, she wore a pair of designer black heels, which she had divulged had cost somewhere in the region of D3,000. Dazdan wore a simple grey suit and tie, and whilst Moli walked with that perfect feminine stance, Dazdan shuffled in a rather immature manner, hands buried in his pockets.

They rode the elevator up to the 43rd floor, where the conference room was. The 43rd floor was general office space, with 50 or so cubicles packed into one large room. Round the edge where larger offices, presumably for higher-ranked workers, and the other side of the floor was dedicated to this large meeting room. The door was already open, but as the pair tended to do, they hung around outside for a few minutes, Moli readjusting her hair for a seemingly millionth time that morning. She wore it simply, with a diamond-studded hair clasp holding most of it in place, but allowing some of it to drop down to her shoulders. She cleaned her glasses nonchalantly and put them back on before she gestured to Dazdan for them to enter the meeting room.

They were greeted by four grey faces, who were all sat at the end of the long MDF table. Moli and Dazdan sat themselves down opposite them and everyone was introduced. The four faces were the head of PR for SzaTec, Zivko Stankic, who was a tall, ageing man with a lack of hair and battered steel-rimmed glasses, as well as his assistant. The two others were government officials, the Under-secretary for Sports & Recreation, Marinko Vahalovic, who was younger, with brown hair and a personable face. He looked like he was made to be on TV. His assistant sat quietly next to him, his face obscured by a laptop screen. Vahalovic greeted both of them, and got immediately to business.

"Ms. Dolanovic, Mr. Iubirdic, we couldn't help but notice the success you've had with your team in International competition. Although the news of it only broke some days after the events, we heard from our Euran counter-parts about. We are very happy with the success, and the good name you are bringing to our country."

Moli bristled against the patriotic white-noise. She looked over to Dazdan, her eyes saying 'get to the point'.

"Apologies Mr. Under-Secretary" She emphasised the word 'under' "But we are on a tight schedule" she lied "and we'd like to make this quick."

"Yes, of course, Ms. Dolanovic" He replied "Basically, what we want to do, is professionalise football in Szavoda. Make it a mainstream sport, and more importantly, have it as a mass-participation, money-making operation. We hear we have a number of talented players, some of which are already making money by playing overseas. Do you believe that players would be enticed to stay here if we had our own professional franchises who provided professional contracts?"

"Perhaps. But what I find is most of our players don't particularly care about the money. They go overseas so they can play high-quality football."

"But surely with money and a proper, professional system in place, we can increase the quality and keep players at home."

"Yes." she offered non-committally.

The Under-Secretary leant down and brought out a folder, which he slid across to Moli. He then brought out two identical copies and handed one to Dazdan and kept one for himself.

"In conjunction with SzaTec, we've drawn up preliminary plans for such as structure, both for the national side, and a professional league one level down. The first half of the folder deals with the national side, putting various systems and establishments in place to ensure that our national side can perform at the highest level and continue your good record. The second half deals with the establishment of a Professional League, called the 'Szavoda Pro League', which will consist of 8 franchise sides which will be sold to various companies and individuals at an auction event in a couple of weeks. Whilst it's currently in the air, we're looking at three franchises in Kreceva, one in Nevograd, two in Vfana, one in Severazlos and one in Kadlec. We're looking for commencement of the competition by the start of the next World Cup. SzaTec will sponsor the League, and will provide the necessary funds for its establishment, and will bid for control of two franchises."

The representative from SzaTec joined in "That's right. We believe that football can really take off in this country, and we want to be at the heart of it. We believe that with our support, it can become a success."

Moli shut her eyes for a second a smile. It was clear rubbish from the SzaTec man. His company really just wanted to get its claws in early so it could squeeze as much money as possible out of it as soon as possible. That was how the company operated. She betrayed her sense of morality and kept quiet.

"Now" Vahalovic continued "In regards to the national team, we might have to make a....few changes." He said considerately. Moli suddenly tuned in, and she leant forward, crossing her arms.

"And what would that be?" She raised an eyebrow curiously.

"We feel that the national team requires leadership from...outside Szavoda. Just for a while until we build a core of coaches from Szavoda."

Moli leant back whilst Dazdan leant forward. He began to speak "Hang on. We built this from the ground and now you just want to shunt out the way. Get out of here, you know that's not an option."

Moli interrupted "Now hang on Dazdan, perhaps we can cut a deal."

She took him aside for a minute and whispered her idea into his ear. He nodded slowly and they returned to the table. Moli continued.

"Here's our offer. You can appoint a foreign coach from wherever you want, we don't care. However, you keep Dazdan on as Assistant Coach. You then put me on the board. Nothing important, doesn't even need to do anything, I just want to be there."

The under-secretary paused for a second, before continuing. "OK, I'm sure we can sort that out. Mr. Iubirdic seemed capable at the job. I'm sure we can find a role for you in the boardroom Ms. Dolanovic."

"Perfect." Moli smiled.

"Now, we've whittled it down to two candidates."

"You've looked for a replacement already? Jeez, you guys move fast." Dazdan added.

"Yes, we do, but that's besides the point. Our two candidates are former Euran team manager, Louis Watson, and unemployed former Brenecian coach Danielle Grainger. We've arranged interviews with the pair of them for the day after tomorrow. We'll be in touch shortly. Otherwise that's all."

Vermark Senior Men's National Football Team

"The Hounds"
Style Modifier: -2.25
Trigramme: VER
Demonym: Vares (noun)/Varish (adj.)

STAFF
Manager: Oskar Backlund (Age 49 - Image Raskstad United)
Backlund has been at the helm of the national team since its inception a few cycles ago. He's also been the long-time manager of the Varish club Raskstad United; under Backlund, Raskstad has won three of the last four Varish top-flight titles. His personality is level-headed and decisive; he leads with grace and emphasizes efficiency when operating his club as well as his national side. In many ways, he has introduced a totally new ideology to football. His infatuation with statistics and objectivity has allowed him to make many shrewd decisions that have inevitably played huge roles in Raskstad's recent success. He's a remarkably unconventional, yet thoroughly effective, manager.

For the Copa Rushmori, Backlund has called up a number of young players at the expense of some more veteran footballers. Especially, in the midfield, quite a bit of turnover took place in order to allow Orvar Eld and Nicklas Henriksen to receive some of their first national team appearances. Expect some experimentation throughout the tournament; Backlund intends to make many of his substitutions right before the start of the second half in order to allow newer players to receive vital experience before Vermark attempts to qualify for the seventy-third World Cup.

Assistant Managers: Sigvard Axelrod (Age 44 - Image North Star Enberg]) and Daniel Marburg (Age 52 - Image Shipwrights)
Assisting Oskar Backlund are two other Varish managers, Sigvard Axelrod and Daniel Marburg. While the managerial genius of Oskar Backlund is nearly unmatched, he is complemented by the tactical intuition of this duo. Axelrod is a very well-versed manager in terms of defensive strategy. He has spent years studying psychology in order to find new ways to redesign football's most sacred defensive scheme: the offside trap. With this knowledge comes a very formidable back four, which, under the direction of Axelrod, will prove to be able to handle even the most powerful attacking football sides in the world.

Marburg's expertise, however, is much more attacking-based. His tactics draw upon techniques used in similar sports, such as ice hockey and lacrosse, in order to showcase attacking styles that opponents will find hard to recognize. Much of this includes alternating between possession-based and long ball-based tactics; Marburg has his team alternate between these two schools of thought at numerous random points throughout a match in order to keep the opposing defenders confused and vulnerable. While established players such as David Isaacsson and Henri Stevensson will get a lot of time on the attack, many unheard of players will also be added into the mix in order to create a new flair to the Varish attack.

GOALKEEPERS
GK #30 Ronald Dinlund (Age 27 - Image Jackson City)
GK #32 Robert Nyquist (Age 31 - Image Dahlen Atletik)

Backlund, contrary to common practice, opts to carry just two goalkeepers during competition in order to make room for more commonly utilized outfield players. Regardless, each of these two netminders has been receiving playing time abroad; however, both seem to be slowly but surely aging. As the younger, more athletic of the pair, Robert Dinlund gets preference over Robert Nyquist, yet Nyquist is likely to receive one or two starts over the course of the Copa. While their age may stop them from being able to make acrobatic saves, their experience will allow them to show off strong capacities for distribution. Dinlund and Nyquist will lead the back four with a shrewd calmness throughout the Copa Rushmori.

DEFENDERS
CB #02 Samuel Gustavsson (Age 34 - Image Raskstad United)
CB #04 Fredrik Rasholm (Age 28 - Image North Star Enberg)
CB #05 Samuel Salquist (Age 28 - Image Old Boys Club)
LB #06 Alek Petrsson (Age 25 - Image Valholm United
RB #12 Axel Lenburg (Age 27 - Image Academica)
RB #14 Jakob Vikholm (Age 26 - Image Kangemark Sport)
LB #17 Anders Larsson (Age 23 - Image Agriholm Prairie)
CB #21 Nicklas Eisburg (Age 24 - Image Raskstad United)

Vermark's defensive corps remains pretty much unchanged since the Cup of Harmony. The back four continues to be led by Sam Salquist, currently playing from the Euran Old Boys Club. Gustavsson the Giant joins Salquist in the middle of the back four; his physicality will continue to be a huge asset to Vermark's defending. Salquist and Gustavsson will be flanked by Anders Larsson and Axel Lenburg. These two both possess ample amounts of speed that will help them join the attack and provide crosses to the striker. Also expect Vikholm and Eisburg is be rotated in and out; normally just bench players, these two will be given a chance to prove themselves in the Copa Rushmori.

MIDFIELDERS
LM #07 Herbert Alfredsson (Age 31 - Image Iry Shore)
LM #09 Justin Dalquist (Age 24 - Image North Star Enberg
CM #11 Reid Sorensson (Age 29 - Image FC Jansport)
RM #13 Emanuel Clausen (Age 26 - Image Shipwrights)
RM #22 Fredrik Danielsson (Age 25 - Image Larquist Rovers)
CAM #24 Henrik Stevensson (Age 32 - Image Academica) [Captain]
CDM #28 Orvar Eld (Age 22 - Image Raskstad United)
CAM #99 Nicklas Henriksen (Age 22 - Image Academica)

The most changes to the Varish squad are among midfielders. After having electric seasons, Nicklas Henriksen and Orvar Eld join the national team. These two will be joined by the veterans Henrik Stevensson and Reid Sorensson. Sorensson will likely get a few starts during the group stage, but it is unlikely for him to be chosen over his younger, more durable teammate. Stevensson, even older than Sorensson, will receive more playing time than Sorensson and will continue to captain the team throughout the tournament. Stevensson's stamina and set-piece finesse will likely enable him to play an integral role in Vermark's Copa campaign, but this could very well be Stevensson's last hurrah, especially if he becomes injured again. On the wings, Justin Dalquist will start to get more playing time over Herbert Alfredsson; Dalquist's reputation for delivering excellent crosses will be the main reason for this change on the left flank. On the right side, Emanuel Clausen will continue to be placed by Backlund in this role. However, it is also possible that Backlund experiments with using Aleksandr van Rogers in the winger role.

FORWARDS
ST #08 David Isaacsson (Age 24 - Image Atletico Nacional)
ST #10 Erik Hjamar (Age 23 - Image Molsbik Arkjet)
ST #25 Aleksandr van Rogers (Age 20 - Image 1860 Azoth)
ST #33 Lars Poulsteen (Age 25 - Image Dunsvik Town)

David isaacsson is most definitely Vermark's top striker, however, there is also some younger talent coming in to play a complementary role to Isaacsson. Hjamar will be brought on when Backlund needs a physical striker to be able to hold his own against the mightiest of centrebacks. Behind Hjamar in terms of skill is Aleksandr van Rogers, who recently was transferred to the Ceni side 1860 Azoth. Van Rogers has a lot of raw talent and athletic energy, and he will likely be brought onto play entire second halves for the Hounds. However, expect Isaacsson to solidify his spot as the Vares' go-to front man by the time the knockout round comes along.

Electrum Football is proud to present the...

Electrumite National Football Team

Introduction
A satisfactory performance by Daniel Brunet allowed him to stay on as the coach for the team for yet another tournament. The Electrumite team made the quarterfinals after a shaky group stage with draws against Nova Anglicana and Garifunya, and a win over Matthewsiania saw Electrum advance as the second ranked team, facing Super-Llamaland. This time, in a brave performance, Electrum defeated Super-Llamaland in extra time, with a goal from Ingram was all that was needed to separate the two teams. But once again, it was Cosumar who halted Electrum's run in the Cup of Harmony, last time it was the third place playoff, now in the quarterfinals, Electrum going down 1-0 in an early goal in the seventh minute. The roster is virtually unchanged from the Cup of Harmony, with Brunet seeking to make changes after this tournament, with rumours of a shakeup.

Executive Board
The coaching team has undergone an expansion. Despite there being new players, Electrum Football has decided to keep the old management team from before, given their recent performances in the group stage of WC70 qualification and their breakout performance in the most recent Copa Rushmori held in Polar Islandstates. This team is known as the Executive Board and are in charge of ensuring the team has a successful performance this time round, as well as managing the ongoing development programs. Coach Wilkinson retired at the end of the Cup of Harmony, seeing through Electrum's rise in the rankings. Daniel Brunet was appointed in the Cup of Harmony as his replacement, opting for a more defensive playstyle.

Fudbalski Savez Mytannion's Delegation for the XXIInd Edition of the Copa Rushmori.

The team that the FSM is sending to the Copa Rushmori this year cannot really claim to be the Mytanar National Team, mainly because there isn't really a nation to speak of. Mytannion is still a series of regions that currently agree to coexist so as to prevent any further bloodshed in the land mass known as Mytannion. It has to be remembered that merely thirty years ago the population of Mytannion as a country topped 80 million people, but following several Civil Wars and various other conflicts this has plummeted to a much depleted 43.5 million. This is down to the various wars resulting in millions of dead, with the Mytanar Conflict (i.e. the most recent of the various conflicts in Mytannion), having an estimated death toll of over 20 million, this unprecedented number of dead being attributed to death camps set up by former Premier Natella Kalinina, a sadistic dictator with a penchant for brutality. She set them up to systematically murder anybody she considered undesirable, this included Thessians, Rauchiks, socialists, liberals, communists, homosexuals, gypsies, or anybody of any ethnic group that wasn't white. This led to an ethnic cleansing process that eliminated at least an estimated 20 million, with around 7.5-10 million more fleeing the conflict leading to a huge Mytanar diaspora across the world (continued population decline before this has led to the dramatic drop in population in just over thirty years). It's a wonder that the diaspora hasn't been exploited, in all likelihood there are some good Mytanar players knocking around having come through foreign youth systems that would be eligible to play for this FSM squad, especially in fellow Rushmori nations. It has to be considered a surprise that the entire squad is based domestically. If success comes from this, it will be a remarkable achievement, but then again Mytannion has been mildly successful in the world of football and for many football ability is thought to be something that isn't merely learnt but is passed on from generation to generation. For Mytanars, football is a part of the DNA. Success isn't expected in this Copa, mainly because many across the Mytanar Region don't actually want to see a unified Mytanar team succeed. Many want Zentrelstra to separate and the other ethnicities eliminated, with the same being the case for some Hochs, some Vojovitican separatists wanting something else and all of this means that any united support behind the team will likely be from left-wing pro-Federalist/unity groups, but will also likely be small-scale. It will be interesting to see if success could translate into a more unified front at home, moving past the bloody conflicts and turning into a Tiger economy could be a possibility but forgetting the past really must be the first step - until that occurs, any change is a long time away.

It has to be remembered that Mytanar football is strictly amateur at the current time. This means that none of the players are paid for their services by their domestic clubs and compete merely for the hope of glory and a chance at being immortalised as iconic players by fans. Some will try to impress at this tournament in the hope of a move to improve their lives, wages in the Mytanar Region are extremely low and many are poor and a move to play the sport they love for money would improve their lives nearly million-fold, if not more. However, amateurism also means that the quality of football may not be as good as in other nations and this means the team is weak compared to previous iterations. They do still have access to training facilities that are still around from the professional game, a hangover from years ago, but many of these are decaying and dilapidated and therefore the players aren't trained to quite as good a level - but the lack of foreign players coming in to compete against them means they lack credible opposition to improve themselves against, as the foreign players would rather not come in and play just for glory, with enormous wages available in other nation's football leagues. Still, this team will attempt to compete and prove themselves at this level against professionals from across the region.

M: Giancarlo Ricci - 59 - Osarius
Ricci has had a long journey before being appointed the manager of this team by the FSM. The criteria for this particular job were essentially a) someone prepared to work in what is essentially still a warzone; b) prepared to work with a potentially sub-standard set of players and c) okay with the fact the FSM was appointing them mainly to avoid accusations of favouritism/ethno-nationalism from people from different regions in Mytannion. Ricci appears to meet all of these criteria and is actually considered a little bit of a coup by the FSM. He is known to be strong in technical development and working with young players - an important pair of skills that could see a quick turnaround in fortunes for the Mytanar team. He's also relatively strong in man-management and communication, which could come in handy when trying to solve issues between players of different ethnic backgrounds but also when trying to prevent the likes of Anton Derajevic pressing the self-destruct button. He is slightly weaker in tactical awareness and understanding, which could be an issue when a tactical change is needed mid-game and he is also thought to be relatively inexperienced. Having said this, he has had managerial roles at a couple of Osarian clubs alongside assistant manager and coaching roles, including at teams such as Rapid Hearthlands, Utica University and Utica United (although his managerial roles were not at teams of that calibre). He has been known to use unorthodox formations such as a 3-1-3-3, but is likely to employ a 4-3-1-2 with Mytannion to get the best out of the players available to him. He has a 25 man squad for the Copa Rushmori and has made a couple of surprise choices in the line-up, but well-known players such as Jezdimir Ocokoljic, Alen Zekic and Grigor Todorov are all involved too. He has been out of direct team management for over a decade, but the magnitude of the task with Mytannion seems to have appealed to him and his pragmatic nature could suit this team down to the ground as they aim to foster a siege mentality at the Copa Rushmori.

01 - GK - Jasmin Savic - 25 - Atletik - N/a - 0/0
Savic had a relatively solid season with Atletik, conceding only 21 goals across 30 games. He led the clean sheet charts in the Top League despite Crvena Zvezda conceding less goals over the course of the season. Savic is a rather short goalkeeper at only 6'1 and he relies mainly on his reflexes and speed to make saves and get across the goal to shots, his footwork is pretty good and allows him to make saves other goalkeepers of his height may not get to. He can be challenged in the air by burly forwards or centre backs, as evidenced by the likes of Duro Filipovic and Rade Loncar in the Top League last season. He will hope to not be put under too much pressure in the Copa Rushmori, with some protection from his defence being necessary as the top-level forwards from across the region will lick their lips at the prospect of coming up against a goalkeeper who has absolutely no international experience, along with an entire defence in the same boat.

02 - DL - Ilija Lambulic - 29 - Nyva - N/a - 0/0
Lambulic is an experienced campaigner and there is little else to say about him. The 29 year old will bring a strong and steady head on the left side of defence and not much else, he is a fairly standard defender, solid in marking, tackling and decent enough in the air. His positioning and anticipation are also fairly strong. He will offer absolutely nothing going forward, he is pretty slow and a quick winger could easily exploit this. Lambulic's football brain is obviously not too bad as he seems to recognise this and doesn't get forward all too often because of it. Lambulic could be a weak link in the defence, but he will certainly give his all for the team and his attitude is excellent with him being one key on-field campaigner for unity between people of all regions when it comes to football.

03 - DC - Josip Radonic - 30 - Atletik - Limited Defender - 0/0
Radonic is never going to be one of those centre backs that can set up attacks from the back line, he will never send a diagonal ball over the top of the opposition's defence to a pacey winger allowing them to get in behind the other team's defence, but he will always put in fairly solid and consistent performances. He's a tough-tackling, no-nonsense centre half who will never hesitate to get in the face of an opposition forward and he will indeed try to bully them as much as he possibly can. He's known to go in hard on quick forwards early on in games as a warning message, mainly because he lacks a bit of pace, usually something his positioning makes up for but he doesn't like leaving anything to chance. He's good in the air. He's a largely pro-Thessian man away from the game, an attitude fostered from the continued persecution of Thessians by other ethnic groups down the years and Radonic will mostly hang around with fellow Thessians, Vojovitican and Rauchik players because of this and friction could occur between him and Zentrelstrans particularly because of his hard-headed nature.

04 - DC - Damir Azanovic - 29 - Crvena Zvezda - Limited Defender - 0/0 (Captain)
Again, Azanovic is never going to be a ball-playing defender with the ability to set-up a goal from deep in his own half, but he is slightly slicker on the ball than his partner at the back. He's probably the better of the two, he has a bit of speed and is excellent at timing his tackles. Unlike Radonic who will probably pick up a few cards both because of mistimed tackles and temperament, Azanovic is noted as a defender who is notoriously good at keeping a clean record, picking up only two yellow cards in thirty games last season. He's strong aerially and anticipates moves before they happen. He's another player that is noted for being able to bring the different ethnicities in the team together, this is despite him being a Zentrelstran by birthplace. He does however have a Thessian parent and this mixed ethnicity could be the reason behind his success at being able to go between many. He may have issues with the likes of Radonic and Derajevic as this tournament goes on as players of different ethnicities begin to rub each other up the wrong way and Ricci will be relying on him to act as a cooling agent on any heated situations that arise.

05 - DR - Petr Isaev - 23 - Crvena Zvezda - N/a - 0/0
Isaev is a player with huge potential. He's a young full back who is capable of getting up and down the line, delivering crosses and contributing to his team's attack. This is crucial given the 4-3-1-2's lack of width, with Isaev being the main outlet in wide areas for this team given the full back on the opposite side, Lambulic, is not quite as quick or mobile as Isaev and that means he can't contribute from wide areas. This will be crucial given that Alen Zekic up top is a target man and he will need service into him to get the best from him. Back to Isaev, he's also good at the back, although his short stature limits his ability in the air and his swashbuckling nature means he can sometimes be caught out of position, his anticipation not quite being as good as older players. Isaev could grow into a strong player, whereas Lambulic, Radonic and Azanovic have probably all reached their peaks already, Isaev could be a player who could make a move abroad if he impresses to a sufficient level.

06 - MC - Goran Delic - 32 - Atletik - Holding Midfielder - 0/0
Goran Delic is a hardnosed central midfielder with years of experience at knocking players in the mould of Tahir Fejzuli off the park. He can also play defensive midfield and he will sit deeper throughout games to allow the other two alongside him, Todorov and Fejzuli to go forward and create things further up the field. He's a strong tackler and sometimes he doesn't time them perfectly but he's combative and his main aim is to prevent the opposition's talents from being able to produce their best on the field. He won't offer much going forward and will rarely be found beyond his halfway line - sometimes being used as an auxiliary centre back when the Mytanar team will inevitably be penned in by stronger teams - but he's experienced and it is that that will probably be his most valued attribute in this side. He's temperamental and strongly Thessian, with an opposition and inherent suspicion of anyone of another ethnicity, so provided he doesn't speak much to any of his non-Thessian team mates he could be an integral part of this team.

07 - MC - Grigor Todorov - 26 - Crvena Zvezda - Box-to-Box - 0/0
Todorov is another solid talent in this team. He's probably not going to get a move abroad anytime soon and nor does he want one. He loves Crvena Zvezda despite being a native of Avnalaren, the islands to the south-east of Mytannion. He's an exceptional physical specimen, even if he doesn't have the technical ability of some of the other players in this side. His stamina is quite remarkable and he's relatively quick as well, other than this it is his tackling, heading and ability to work as a small cog inside a bigger machine that makes him a good player. He is of course, as a midfielder, relatively good on the ball and at passing it. It is the way he can run from 18-yard box to 18-yard box and get involved in every passage of play that makes him such an important player. His enthusiasm could be his downfall at this level of football, he could be found well out of position as he makes runs well out of where he's meant to be and if the opposition win the ball back and make a swift counter attack Todorov could struggle to get back to where he's needed. He's an effective player domestically, but positional sense is necessary at the top level of football and Todorov could be found to be ineffective at this level.

08 - MC - Tahir Fejzuli - 22 - Arka - Central Playmaker - 0/0
Fejzuli is a youngster - similarly to Isaev - who could move on from the Top League if he puts in a top performance for the national side in this Copa Rushmori. Fejzuli is a player who is technically very strong, the opposite to his counterpart Todorov, with his physical side maybe a bit lacking. He's not the quickest, but his quick thinking and movement allow him a bit more time on the ball and his passing, crossing, shooting and set piece ability are all very good. He scored 7 goals and assisted 10 more for Arka last season in 30 games and it is this playmaking ability that will mean he's an important cog in the team, it's also this same ability that could get him a move abroad. He is a bit of a lightweight midfielder, his slight frame and short stature meaning he can be pushed off the ball, but he's a bit of a ghost who will slip past opposition players and get into space and when he does he can make things happen. Ricci will be hoping that Fejzuli doesn't come under specialist treatment from opposition players or get injured in the tournament as he'll be a big miss.

10 - AMC - Slavko Lalic - 25 - Energija-Nuklearna - Number 10 - 0/0
Lalic is the typical Mytanar number ten. A phrase that has long had a very defined meaning, a player who is technically excellent, icily composed, deadly in front of goal quite often and a player with an inherent degree of cynicism, who can blow up at the slightest thing or lash out or make a mistake. Lalic is every bit the typical Mytanar number ten. The 25 year old was excellent in the Top League last season with 11 goals and 21 assists. Lalic was the major creator for his team and Ricci will hope he does the same for this team - without any of the cynicism that has always characterised the Mytanar number ten. He could just as easily score a crucial winning goal as get a stupid red card for lashing out after a crunching challenge and nobody would say they were surprised if the Vojovitican did either of them.

09 - ST - Jezdimir Ocokoljic - 19 - Crvena Zvezda - Trequartista - 0/0
Well Ocokoljic is the key player in this side. Such a big responsibility on such a young player is rarely the case but it has to be considered true when this youngster has scored 44 goals in 45 league games for his team domestically, driving them to the Top League title with some help from some very talented team mates such as Azanovic, Isaev, Todorov et al. Ocokoljic is a player who relies mainly on his movement to score goals, he isn't the quickest footballer ever, but his speed of thought and ability to find space on the field - to get away from players who have been told to man mark him out of the game - is what sets him apart from many other forwards. His finishing is exceptional too, as clinical as a neurosurgeon during a crucial operation. He will link up well with Todorov from midfield and it will be interesting to see how he works with both Slavko Lalic behind him and Alen Zekic who will always be slightly ahead of him. Ocokoljic will play literally as a 'three-quarters' as the trequartista role dictates, not quite as an out-and-out striker or as an attacking midfielder. He'll be in between those two positions, exploiting space and trying to get on the ball. He's not quite a raumdeuter as he's not quite as direct and he has no defensive obligations, but he will be expected to both score and set-up goals for this team whilst linking play as well.

11 - ST - Alen Zekic - 27 - Atletik - Targetman - 0/0
Zekic is a big, burly centre forward, an absolute mass of muscle who is strong on the ball, strong in the air and doesn't have bad feet for a big man. He can dribble and he can almost barge his way through defences purely through his strength and ability to keep the ball close to him. It is his aerial ability that has got him this role in the team though. If decent crosses are delivered into him from set pieces by Fejzuli and from crosses by Isaev down the right he is likely to get onto them first. He's also going to be a handful for defenders from any balls played into him from deep or clearances that loop into the air. He will hold the ball up and bring others into play. How he links up with Ocokoljic will be the most interesting thing to see, the two are players that wouldn't usually be compatible but Ricci has put them together. A target man and a trequartista linking up isn't the most usual partnership, but it could work and if it does it could devastate opposition defences as Zekic holds the ball up and Ocokoljic exploits space around him.

12 - GK - Pedja Kasun - 21 - Ararat - N/a - 0/0
Kasun is a young goalkeeper who looks to be the future starter for the national team, the fact he is born into a generation with Jasmin Savic is an unlucky coincidence, but it is expected that one day he will overtake his goalkeeping colleague and take the starting job for the Mytanar team. Kasun will be a player who looks to move abroad too, he's an ambitious young lad and the fact he's Rauchik (and at the most prestigious Rauchik club side), won't stop him from looking to move abroad to try and get a taste of success at the highest level. The pull of Champions' Cup football is still strong even if memories of Ebor '96 winning them trophies, Liria winning Globe Cups and Atletik winning Rushmori Copa de Campeones are long faded. Kasun will hope to one day be a part of the elite list of Mytanars to have won an international club trophy.

13 - DL - Zoran Vlasic - 26 - Ararat - N/a - 0/0
Vlasic is another no-nonsense defender, for some reason the current generation of Mytanar full backs other than young Petr Isaev don't seem to offer too much going forward, but they are all at least solid enough at defending. That's at the Mytanar level anyway, whether they can turn up and perform at the same level for the national side is questionable, especially against some of the quality wingers that will play for other national teams. Vlasic is a strong competitor, able to tackle well and he marks like a limpet, he's not great in the air again though, despite being 6'3 - but of course height doesn't guarantee aerial ability.

14 - DC - Zelimir Apostolov - 24 - Ararat - Ball-Playing Defender - 0/0
Apostolov is one of few centre backs from the Mytanar Region that looks comfortable with the ball at his feet, he can start attacks from in his own half and has been known to surge forward with the ball himself to dribble through midfields and even tee himself and others up for shots from range after these lung bursting runs. He's also not a bad defender, well-timed tackles, strong aerial ability and relatively good marking and positional sense mean that he's likely to inherit one of the starting centre back spots before the next tournament after the upcoming Copa Rushmori. He's only young too, so he could still develop in those places where he's a little weak - his footballing brain is perhaps not as well developed as it should be and this is perhaps why he sometimes goes on kamikaze runs up field and can be found out of position because of it. He could be a real talent, though.

15 - DR - Mario Uzelac - 24 - Atletik - N/a - 0/0
Uzelac is another who can't really offer much going forward but he is an excellent substitute if you're defending a lead late on as he's pretty versatile and he can play across the back line as an auxiliary defender. He'd also be a solid replacement for Isaev if he's not needed to offer an outlet going forward as he'd literally sit back with the other defenders and just stop anything as that's essentially all he does, he's a real stopper domestically, defusing potential attacks. Whether he has the speed to match pacey international wingers remains to be seen, however.

16 - MC - Jeda Mehmedic - 26 - Liria - Central Midfielder - 0/0
Mehmedic isn't the best replacement midfielder, but he's the one on the bench due to him being the most versatile option of the three potential replacements. He can fulfil many roles and that's why he's the first substitute central midfielder. He's not particularly great at anything, but he's good enough in various areas to make him useful. He's a good passer of the ball and good at tackling and he could contribute a couple of goals too if he gets in good positions. He's not quite as creative as Andrijasevic will be or as defensively solid as Drazen Ljotic, but he's decent enough in various roles to convince Ricci that he should be the first choice out of the substitutes. Andrijasevic in particular will look to change that, he feels aggrieved - despite his youth - that he isn't the first choice as he can offer a really different creative option in the middle, a Hjikesque central midfielder who can do it all, but perhaps a little more creative, it'll be interesting to see if he can change it.

17 - AMC - Ermin Drzic - 20 - Liria - Raumdeuter - 0/0
He's probably best described as a raumdeuter - transcribed in English as a 'space investigator', which is essentially what he is. He looks for space an tries to get into it and exploit it, similar to a trequartista. At the same time he's also got some defensive responsibilities, expected to press defenders and defensive/central midfielders when he's not in possession, almost a defensive forward. Speaking of forward Drzic can also play up front and his clinical finishing made him the 4th top goal scorer in the Top League last season, with 18 goals in 30 games. He was a striker for Liria but it was his deep-lying style that has convinced Ricci to employ him as more of an attacking midfielder in this side, or as a tactically experimental raumdeuter.

18 - ST - Nebojsa Aleksic - 23 - Tekstil - Complete Forward - 0/0
It was hard to classify Aleksic as one of the three specific striker roles, poacher; targetman; trequartista, so we chose to place him in the rare fourth striker role of complete forward. This is because he essentially fulfils all of the other roles, he can poach goals in the 6-yard box, he can hold the ball up and bring others into play and he can exploit space and use his free role in the same style as trequartistas. However, he is a player who doesn't particularly excel in any one attribute of his game. He's not the quickest or strongest and he just doesn't look like he should be a clinical striker, but finishing is the one thing he is very good at. He just has an uncanny knack for finding the net, as displayed by him managing to score 16 goals in 30 games for a weak Tekstil side last season, scoring over 60% of his side's goals in the league. When he's on the field he will score, especially with good service, even if he looks like he should be a guitarist in an indie rock band instead of a clinical goalscorer.

19 - GK - Dragan Antic - 30 - Crvena Zvezda - N/a - 0/0
A solid goalkeeper who conceded the least goals in the Top League last season. He's 6'7 so offers a much taller and slightly more experienced option than starter Savic and it's widely expected that if there is any long-term change required that Antic will go in for Savic rather than allowing Kasun to be thrown in at the deep end given his comparative lack of experience, although Kasun will retain a bench position in order to gain experience around the side. A brave and slightly odd choice from Ricci.

20 - DC - Drazen Zupan - 27 - Esca '23 - Limited Defender - 0/0
A classical defender, tall, strong and hard. A tough tackler and good enough in the air, he perhaps lacks the positional awareness of the two starting centre backs, but unlike one of them, Radonic, Zupan won the Top League last season. In a somewhat brutal move, Crvena Zvezda purged relegated Dinamo of one of their better players, young centre back Luka Bobic - a lad who has a lot of potential. He will start next season and Zupan was not content to be second-string so moved to Esca '23 in order to play. None of these moves were motivated by money as Mytanar football is strictly amateur, meaning players are not paid and clubs can not pay each other transfer fees. Dinamo still feel aggrieved though as they have received nothing, compared to Esca '23 who were not even involved in the first place but look a stronger team for it.

21 - DC - Goran Najdoski - 26 - Nyva - Limited Defender - 0/0
Najdoski is a rather unheralded talent. He's another limited defender, seemingly the only type of centre back we can produce outside of Apostolov. However, Najdoski is decent enough and there have been several calls for him to start, with him and Azanovic being preferred as a partnership by many pundits rather than Radonic and Azanovic, with many saying that Najdoski would work much better with Azanovic than the anti-Zentrelstran Radonic. Whether that will be such a big issue remains to be seen but it sure is certain that if there are issues with the partnership Ricci will not hesitate to change it. Najdoski is a clever player, intelligent on the field and his lack of bulk and speed are often made up for because of this.

22 - MC - Miodrag Andrijasevic - 17 - Atletik - Central Playmaker - 0/0
Andrijasevic has been classed as a central playmaker here but he could also be classed as a box-to-box midfielder, he has the physicality to be able to perform that role too, though he prefers creativity rather than bursting through defences on the back of his - undoubtedly good - physical attributes. He's good in dead ball situations, his passing and vision are incredible and allow him to thread balls through defences to create chances. His shooting is relatively good, but as mentioned, better in dead ball situations than in play, where his composure can sometimes be lacking - perhaps a product of his young age, but he can develop over time. Many have said he could be the next Robin Hjik, but that's a big tag that he himself is trying to avoid, something his twin brother Zlatan hasn't hesitated to emphasise to the media - he too knows his brother is his own man. The comparisons do have some truth in them though, Miodrag should develop into an exceptionally good player and one who will be very much like Hjik and as the youngest player in the squad he has time to do that.

23 - MC - Drazen Ljotic - 29 - Crvena Zvezda - Holding Midfielder - 0/0
Another simple holding midfielder, he'll tackle, break-up play, leave a mark on the opposition's creative players and not do much more. Similarly to Delic he will rarely go beyond the halfway line and could often become an auxiliary centre back if there is a need for that. Ljotic is slightly better on the ball than Delic and it is a wonder that he hasn't been selected ahead of Delic, with many in the Mytanar Region believing that the FSM may have pressured Ricci to select Delic to ensure some parity in the starting eleven between Thessians and Zentrelstrans. Something that would have been inconceivable thirty years ago, but how things have changed following Kalinina's rise to power, reign and fall.

24 - AMC - Sime Pandev - 34 - Nyva - Number 10 - 0/0
The Nyva legend is still going, particularly remarkable given his injury during the middle of last season, something that coincided with a huge downturn in form. Pandev is creative and his football intelligence is undoubted, he loves the club he plays for but is also one footballer who has called for the various ethnic groups to join together and forget the past and try to allow the country to grow as it did under President Pamic in the early 21st century, but that's long forgotten and things have changed drastically forever and potentially will never go back to how they were. It would be nice if things could go back to how they were but that may well be impossible now.

25 - ST - Anton Derajevic - 24 - Esca ' 23 - Complete Forward - 0/0
Here he is. The enigma. Derajevic is the sort of player who can smash in an improbably 40-yard strike one minute and could then miss the simplest of tap-ins the next minutes. He must be infuriating to manage. He is a fan of BVK Dinamo, the club who are direct rivals of the club he actually plays for. But the fans of Esca '23 he is a hero as he scores goals regularly, he managed 20 goals in 30 games last season and they were all sorts of goals: headers, shots from inside the box, long-range efforts, free kicks, penalties, whatever. He's a top striker, but his attitude towards the game is probably what will prevent him from ever being a real top striker. He often looks like he doesn't want to be on the pitch, strolling around looking disinterested, remonstrating with team mates over perfectly good passes if only he'd been prepared to move five yards, the next he's bringing down an awful ball, taking it into his stride, speeding away from a defender and smashing the ball in the net from an impossible angle. His lack of effort has only endeared him to Esca '23 fans, whether he'll be as big a favourite for the Mytanar team is a mystery for now, but he could be a game changer. It's believed that Ricci has tried to work with him, whether he's got anywhere is perhaps even more of a mystery.

THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF THE UNITED SOCIALIST STATES OF PRIDNESTROVIA
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL TEAM

It has been at least six years since Field Marshal Stepan Stepanovich Stepanenko was defeated in glorious battle against the forces of the Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft, six years since the greatest field marshal the world has ever seen was undisputably beaten by the forces of a faraway country that was still in the midst of recovering from a devastating religious civil war. Those six years have seen humiliation upon humiliation bestowed by these meddling foreigners upon the once and only rightful ruler of the United Socialist States, Field Marshal Stepan Stepanovich Stepanenko. The nation, and our Great Leader, was forced to accept a humiliating peace with the "Democratic" Republic, which saw our glorious nation become a mere "client state" of these troublesome foreigners. In exchange, Great Leader Field Marshal Stepan Stepanovich Stepanenko, would remain in position as rightful ruler of the Democratic People's Republic of the United Socialist States of Pridnestrovia, as befitting his station in life. Yet knowing that he is only ruler by virtue of a foreigner's whim has weighed down hard on the Great Leader Field Marshal. This resulted in the great United Socialist States closing itself off from the rest of the multiverse, so that no foreigner would see the shame that had been wrought upon the Great Leader.

But no longer. Great Leader Field Marshal Stepan Stepanovich Stepanenko has decided that the time for seclusion is over. No longer will Pridnestrovia remain under the shadow of the foreigners that had forced itself upon our great nation. We will show that Pridnestrovia has what it takes to become a real and true member of the multiversal community. But we will not do it through our military force. Instead, we will show that we are the best in the multiverse through sports! Sports, which is just codified barbarism! This will show the multiverse that Pridnestrovia is the best sporting country in the world! We will defeat every other nation that dares come up against us!

Starting Lineup, Formation, and Tactics:

Image

Valladares' usual formation is a 3-2-2-3 (or 3-4-3 for general reference), which can turn into either a very aggressive yet non-conventional 3-2-5 for attacking or a 5-4-1 (a 3-6-1, even) when the team feel the need to enter into a defensive mode. La Nacional will always be looking to attack and retain ball possession for as long as possible, trying to score many goals in the shortest possible time and mounting an insurmountable lead for the second half of the match when players from both teams start showing signs of fatigue. This squad mostly relies on the speed of both Rubén Morantes and Juan Pablo Reyes on the wings both in attack and in defense modes, with defensive midfielders Iván Coupet and Pedro Pedretti being able to retreat to the defensive line with ease whenever the team lose ball possession in order to form a line of 5 defenders, thus giving rival forwards a very hard time when trying to break through the Valladar defense. The 3 forwards are also very speedy and talented but most of all, dangerous: they can turn seemingly harmless crosses into goals, create chances and score goals out of nothing, and kill defenses with speed and lethal counterattacks.

POLAASKAN NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM, OFFICIAL COPA RUSHMORI XXII SQUAD

STAFF:
Manager: Bosko Zhamaletdinov, 45
After guiding Volcano FK to the title two seasons ago, amongst other good performances in his three-year tenure, the PFA decided to appoint Zhamaletdinov to the position of manager but have still kept interim manager Otto Omirov on as a first team coach. The duo were midfield partners in Volcano back in the day, and Zhamaletdinov has decided to appoint some of his former teammates to the coaching staff., with recently retired Frans Martinsson being one of the new coaches despite them never playing together. After retiring from playing aged 37, Zhamaletdinov was a first team coach and U21 manager simultaneously for two years before being promoted to assistant for one year. At the close of that season, then-manager Darijo Simak decieded to leave and Zhamaletdinov was appointed manager, where he guided them to one title and two cups, which is adequate enough for PFA President Mikhaelo Vrjak.

Assistant manager: Maries van Romker, 54
Zhamaletdinov’s assistant at Volcano, previously the manager of Dutch Semarland’s national team. Half Dutch Semar himself, when the gritty centre-back retired from playing aged 34, he moved back to Dutch Semarland where he managed Inter Zotanekko and FK Kemsterdam before the national team, but returned to Polaaskan when he was sacked from his national team job. Widely expected to the be the defensive coach by some, Zhamaletdinov decided to keep him as his assistant. Rather loud like his colleague, van Romker is someone on the touchline you shouldn’t mess with.

First team coach: Otto Omirov, 48
First team coach: Frans Martinsson, 37
Tactical coach: Karl-Franz Sondergaard, 44
Goalkeeping coach: Johan Hendrik Tunnlaugsson, 43
Defensive coach: Martin Sapozhinsky, 47
Attacking coach: Dario Lillestrom, 35
B team coach: Markus Sonne, 46
U21 coach: Pol Mikkola, 41
Fitness coach: Niko Einmark, 33
Fitness coach: Kohev Mykhalyk, 35
Head physio: Holger Kartashov, 38
Physio: Envur Olne, 47
Physio: Mykkoslav Mirnov, 44
Doctor: Wilhelm Onopko, 49
Doctor: Hendrik Arlstrom, 47
Performance analyst: Pol Draxler, 32
Performance analyst: Andrej Ovinko, 27
Head scout: Vitaly Gunnlaugsson, 61
Domestic scout: Karl Raupko, 55
Domestic scout: Sander Vertinskaya, 34
International scout: Vasoslav Lobodin, 38
International scout: Igor de Raek, 54
Scout: Mateus Stepashin, 34
Scout: Ibrahim Zimyatov, 42
Spokesman: Ignatiy Aamot, 40

PLAYERS:
#1 – GK – Timo Sokolov – Age 29 – Mandon United (APX) – 14 caps
#12 – GK – Renat van Allison – Age 25 – Volcano FK – 2 caps
#22 – GK – Marco Ramaaker – Age 24 – Red Star Slazhnov – 1 cap
Teemu Petersen is rested for the upcoming World Cup so Timo Sokolov is given a chance to prove himself as a potential number one. Renat van Allison is also promoted to second choice for the Copa with Marco Ramaaker included in a tournament squad for the first time, with his only cap being a friendly two years ago. Zhamaletdinov has promised to give all three a chance, so we are likely to see all of them in the group stage.

#2 – DR – Timo Asker – Age 30 – FC1. Stagnov Athletic – 36 caps
#3 – DL – Vasili Semshov – Age 29 – Montreal Koreana (QUE) – 62 caps, 2 goals
#5 – DC – Sol Arke – Age 33 – SC Martinsberg – 70 caps, 5 goals – Captain
#6 – DC – Christian Hogg – Age 33 – St George’s Creek (APX) – 54 caps, 4 goals

#13 – DC – Linus Melker – Age 27 – FC Aaneshel – 16 caps
#19 – DR – Nicklas Melkinov – Age 25 – Novaya Mollen – 5 caps
#21 – DC – Piotr Karl – Age 24 – FC1. Stagnov Athletic – 6 caps
#23 – DL – Piotr Karlstrom – Age 21 – Luis Angel Firpo (SJG) – 5 caps
Zhamaletdinov keeps the same group of defenders from the World Cup, and will likely start with Semshov, Arke, Hogg and Asker as the starting back four. Piotr Karl and Linus Melker are solid options as back up to the older Arke and Hogg, and Piotr Karlstrom, who recently completed a move to Guayabelense side Luis Angel Firpo, and Nicklas Melkinov will be itching to come on and show what they can do.

#4 – MC – Ragge Bielvenstramm – Age 29 – Grasshoppers Turic (OSR) – 21 caps, 2 goals
#7 – ML – Lukas Karlstrom – Age 28 – Real Azuris (COS) – 72 caps, 9 goals
#8 – MC – Iiro Mihaylov – Age 29 – Krsthaven (SEM) – 71 caps, 11 goals
#11 – MR – Johan Pekarik – Age 29 – Riverside City (SUS) – 46 caps, 5 goals

#14 – AMC – Jon van Axelsen – Age 22 – SK Kristiansberg – 31 caps, 5 goals
#15 – MC – David Spillum – Age 26 – Red Star Cognac (FEL) – 16 caps
#16 – MR – Hakke Melkstrom – Age 27 – North Estenlund Rovers – 5 caps
#17 – ML – Teemu Silvennsson – Age 28 – Rozelle (BRE) – 5 caps
#24 – AMC – Artem Vestoriko – Age 28 – Red Star Slazhnov – 18 caps, 3 goals
Following the retirements of Riko van Bommel and Mikke Leonardsen, both Ragge Bielvenstramm and Johan Pekarik were promoted to first choice in their respective positions in the World Cup, with Lukas Karlstrom and Iiro Mihaylov still staying strong in theirs. David Spillum is a reliable but more defensive midfield option, with Artem Vestoriko and Jon van Axelsen looking to be that creative spark. Teemu Silvennsson and Hakke Melkstrom are the deputies of Karlstrom and Pekarik respectively.

#9 – ST – Patrik Ael – Age 30 – FC Kolberg (SEM) – 49 caps, 21 goals
#10 – ST – Timo Heinckel – Age 31 – CSKA Quebec (QUE) – 60 caps, 40 goals

#18 – ST – Mikhailo Pettersen – Age 20 – Grasshoppers Turic (OSR) – 7 caps, 4 goals
#21 – ST – Iiro Kaalikko – Age 22 – Volcano FK – 9 caps, 10 goals
#25 – ST – Heiko Blonqvist – Age 30 – Academica (VER) – 40 caps, 19 goals
Zhamaletdinov has included five strikers, including the two youngsters that won him the league with Volcano FK. Patrik Ael and Timo Heinckel are expected to start, but with the duo both approaching thirty, prodigies Iiro Kaalikko and Mikhailo Pettersen will likely get good game time too. The patient, reliable Heiko Blonqvist is the fifth and final striker in the squad, and will be looking to prove himself under Zhamaletdinov after Leonardsen and Omirov never really gave him the chance he deserved, with him usually starting from the bench.

PRAVENNA
Preferred Formation:
4-1-4-1
Style Modifier: -2
Playstyle: Defensive, counter-attacking side, very much aware of their status as underdogs.
Kit Supplier: Cloaker
Nickname: The Lions

Pravenna is a sun-blazed rock in the middle of nowhere, vaguely in Rushmori waters. It is a benevolent dictatorship - or, at least, young General Augustine Mitrosaridis is more concerned with golden statues of himself and various glamour projects than oppressing the common folk. The latest project has been the restoration of a football association wracked with corruption, incompetence and neglect, and somehow - despite the refusal of both UICA and the WCC to have anything to do with them - has actually started to almost approach respectability.

Pravenna enters a new era. With Augustinople Saints dominating a league rife in corruption but finally starting to show signs of a semi-decent standard - as well as having MPL success to its name - the strongest part of the team remains its overseas talent, starting to break into top divisions around the globe. Still strong at the back, it might not be such a surprise if or indeed when Pravenna string a couple wins together. It's not all roses, however - while the increased participation in football by the significant Greek diaspora of Nephara is definitely helping the cause, two refusals by good eligible players in the Premiership in Evan Katsouranis (Bishop) and Scylla Vyntra (Serpentine) haven't helped the cause. Still, there's a decent team here.

Supplied by a somewhat reluctant Cloaker, of Nephara. Never has the phrase 'your money's good' been more dubious.

I Give My Opponent Permission To:

Red Card Players: Y

Tactics
Image
First-choice lineup.
Defence is the priority for Pravenna, who generally expect to be outplayed and aim to keep tight at the back and hit hard on the counterattack. They don't have the players to overextend either on the pitch or in the roster. Their best angle of attack is down the wings, especially the left where Postecoglou and Constantinou make for a good combination with Michaels an obliging, if streaky, target man.

Staff
Manager: Constantine Katsaros
Asst. Manager: Ange Katsaros

Balancing duties of the national team with the new MPL side, Augustinople Saints, Katsaros largely has the nation in his debt. A doughty, hard-bitten sort who feels confident he can get the best out of any player, his results so far have been nothing short of extraordinary. That experience with the Saints has given him the confidence to try the marginally more adventurous, less compact 4-1-4-1 formation with the Pravennan national team. The only question is, how long is he staying?

Goalkeepers
1 - GK - Anastasia Stasinopolous - Age 32 - Augustinople Saints (PRV)
12 - GK - Perseus Theoklitos - Age 24 - Crawford City FC (COS)
20 - GK - Evangelos Tsakiris - Age 28 - Morningstar (NPH)

Easily the best goalkeeper in the squad, Theoklitos has held a regular starting place with Crawford for a while. Stasinopolous is an incorruptible and valiant player and an inspiration to the dressing room, while also being a fairly decent goalkeeper. Journeyman Tsakiris is unlikely to see the field, playing as he does in the Nepharim third-tier. At least now, for the first time in his career, he is consistently starting.

Defenders
2 - RB - Penelope Karassalidis - Age 26 - Brookford Otters (BRE)
3 - LB - Demetrios Constantinou - Age 25 - Stalliongrad (EQS)
5 - CB - Augustine Rouphos - Age 27 - Saint Alexander (BRE)
6 - CB - Eudoxia Tzavaras (c) - Age 34 - Coret Hawks (NPH)
13 - CB - Stern Katsalidis - Age 30 - Augustinople Saints (PRV)
16 - LB - Iliad Tsipras - Age 20 - AFC Shale (NPH)
17 - RB - Spyridon Gekas - Age 22 - West Colossi (PRV)
21 - CB - Claire Demetrios - Age 23 - Rochford (NPH)

One attack-minded fullback in Constantinou adds extra dimension to what is in general a stronger left side, while Karassalidis (another second-generation immigrant) is sturdy, defensive and cunning. Tzavaras is every inch the leader, though her pace is deserting her these days - a bulwark at the back for club and country. Rouphos and Demetrios, who both played in Felix for a few years, will fight it out to partner the captain in defence, with Katsalidis as redoubtable and reliable as ever. Tsipras is highly-rated for the future and should amount to something. The same cannot be said for Gekas, who exists purely to fill out the roster.

Midfielders
4 - DM - Juliet Vatskalis - Age 33 - Augustinople Saints (PRV)
7 - RM - Zoe Merochite - Age 33 - Rosbank Town (BRE)
8 - CM - Dorcas Merochite - Age 27 - Ritter Town (NPH)
11 - LM - Kostas Postecoglou - Age 25 - Iron City (NPH)
15 - CM - Calisto Matraxis - Age 27 - Indigo Lygers (ZEN)
18 - LM - Angelos Souvanis - Age 24 - Augustinople Saints (PRV)
19 - DM - Niko Karachanis - Age 22 - Port Argos Phalanx (PRV)
22 - CM - Philippa Costas - Age 32 - Augustinople Saints (PRV)
23 - RM - Vasilis Panagakos - Age 25 - Augustinople Saints (PRV)

Variable in quality. Zoe Merochite and Vatskalis are both very old by now, but between the unrelated Dorcas Merochite and the industrious Calisto Matraxis, who runs herself into the ground every game, they have a solid spine. Postecoglou is a decent Premiership-level winger, but the depth, sadly, is fairly lamentable.

Forwards
9 - ST - Theo Michaels - Age 27 - Chenoworth Harriers (NPH)
10 - ST - Isadora Xenophon - Age 33 - Samaj FC (COS)
14 - ST - Theseus Barbarouses - Age 24 - Upper Skyforce (USI)

Ridiculously-variable striker Michaels becomes the striker of choice after a journeyman career - the Harriers are his fifth club in three different countries. This is largely because Xenophon's pace is degrading, although she is by far the best finisher of the team. Barbarouses is a towering battering ram of a centre-forward, formerly of Project +90. Between them, they offer pace, technique and strength - a powerful toolkit to have.

Copa Rushmori XXII

Head Coach

Elías Carrasco
Following the retirement of former boss Ernesto Farías the FFS eschewed their usual pursuit of a big name foreign replacement and instead went for the continuity option, by promoting Farías’ assistant coach to the big blue chair. Has taken the Corsairs back to the World Cup and lifted the Copa Rushmori.

Backroom Staff

Assistant Head Coach: Alejandro Echeverría
Defensive Coach: Diego Jara
Attacking Coach: Rubén Contreras
Goalkeeping Coach: Silvio Romero
Fitness Coach: Sergio Castellanos
Technical Coordinator: Rodrigo Defederico
Team Doctor: Dr Iván Morelli

Talent

GK: 1. Armando Abad (35) – Dínamo Maturín
Although no longer the first choice between the sticks the experienced shot stopper remains an important part of the squad.
GK: 13. Rafael Molino (27) – Ciudad Soluca
Rock solid at the back as Ciudad swept to yet another SuperLiga title and looks ready to step up and take his place as the national side’s top keeper.
GK: 25. Emilio León (30) – Sportivo Soluca
A regular in the Sportivo goal at the age of just 19, big things were expected of that young shot stopper and he’s largely delivered on that promise as the years have gone by.

DR: 2. Hectór Ibarra (23) – Ciudad Soluca
Initially deployed as a winger during his early days at San Marquez’s ‘El Academica’ but has gradually been pushed back by Ciudad’s coaching staff. Now an effective fallback, but one who has never been able to curb that attacking spirit.
DRC: 5. Guillermo Lucena (30) – Ciudad Soluca
A favourite of previous coach Farías after serving him well in the Under-21 team, the Olympic Squad and at Ciudad. A solid defender with an excellent reading of the game. Equally adept at centreback or fallback.
DC: 6. Sergio Ayala (26) – El Nacional
A classy, ball-playing centreback in the classical Gozan model. Ayala has both pace and poise, a combination that has made the coaching staff at the Independiente very excited indeed.
DL: 3. Jaime Urruti (24) – Dunas Del Sol
Inclusion in the national side caps a whirlwind few years for a defender who was playing in the fourth tier three years ago. Quick, skilful and possessing a wand of a left foot, the nation’s biggest clubs are watching with interest.
DLC: 12. José Antonio Caro (25) – Sportivo Soluca
Plucked from the Academy of arch-rivals Ciudad, Sportivo’s scouts allowed themselves a smug smile as the defender blossomed into a top performer. Naturally left footed, Caro provides a handy option to balance out Carrasco’s favoured three man defence.
DRC: 14. Javier Bonilla (24) – Alianza Jucaro
A right back by trade who often gets shoved into the centre during Alianza coach Barragán’s numerous tactical switches. Had an excellent debut season in the first team and now considered undroppable. The fact his father owns the club doesn’t hurt either.
DLC: 19. Jonás Jacinto (33) – Petro Mercada
Captaining Petro to a highly impressive fifth place finish has helped keep the old stager in national team reckoning despite the presence of a number of younger options. Remains a leader in the dressing room despite losing the captain’s armband.
DC: 21: José Luis Camargo (24) – Sportivo Cordova
Another amazing find from the lower leagues who has made a rapid rise to the top. Of course, at 6’ 6” Camargo was closer to the top than most. A beast at the heart of the Sportivo defence and a real danger from set pieces.

MC: 4. Eduardo Zacarías (29) – Ciudad Soluca
A midfielder with tremendous lung capacity. His box-to-box runs were a key part of Dunas Del Sol’s excellent domestic form before he was snatched up by the club from the capital.
AMR: 7. Xabier Sola (24) – Sporting San Marquez
The latest boy from the barrios to make a name for himself at the Estadio Silva. Xabier provides both pace and power down the flank but a lack of composure in the final third show that there’s still some edges to be smoothed on this rough diamond.
MC: 8. Alejandro Rodríguez (26) – Sporting San Marquez
The youth setup at the Estadio Silva has a long history of unearthing gems and the unquestionable cream of the crop and subject of this rather laboured metaphor is Rodríguez. The obvious solution to the Rodrigo Defederico shaped hole in the national squad.
AML: 11. Federico Cifuentés (30) – Dínamo Maturín
It’s entirely possible that Federico could have represented Sargossa at the Olympic 100m, such is the pace hidden away in his diminutive frame. A real terror for opposition fallbacks, although a consistent delivery shy of being genuinely world class.
AMRC: 15. Flavio Freitas (32) – El Nacional
A tireless attacking midfielder whose impressive work rate and never say die attitude make him a firm favourite among Gozans and neutrals alike.
MC: 16. Germán Sauseda (31) – Ciudad Soluca
Midfield playmaker with a prestigious range of passing. Sauseda stood out in a fairly average Porto Alegro Azul side that consistently punched above its weight. Brought to Ciudad by Ernesto Farías during his spell in charge.
DMC: 18. Mateo Olmedo (31) – Alianza Jucaro
The latest in a long line of talented midfielder anchor-men produced by our mighty archipelago. Prone to nosebleeds if he crosses the halfway line.
DMC: 22. Tino Devesa (25) – Dunas Del Sol
Another of those midfield battlers we seem so keen on developing. But unlike some of his illustrious predecessors Devesa also possesses excellent technical and isn’t prone to feeling all feint if he stumbles into the opposition half.
AMLC: 24. Julio César Merino (28) – Dínamo Maturín
A top assist provider in the domestic league and one dangerous crosser of a football. Dínamo have been fighting of suitors for the midfielder for years.

FC: 9. Federico Noyola (31) – Sporting San Marquez
Yet another gem unearthed from the barrios of San Marquez and polished by ‘El Academia’. Has an uncanny knack of being in the right place and the right time and has proved a scourge of SuperLiga defences because of it. Has replaced Federico Ferreyra as the penalty area predator.
FC: 10. Stefano Bustos (34) – Sportivo Soluca
At 6’4” the experienced Sportivo targetman is a real threat in the air and adds the perfect option if ‘hoof it to the big fella’ is required.
FC: 17. Miguel De Los Santos (24) – Daroca Marinos
After two years of banging in goals galore during loan spells in the Segunda Liga Miguel was given his SuperLiga baptism of fire three seasons ago and hasn’t looked back since. Now a highly coveted striking prospect that the Marinos have done well to hold onto.
FRC: 20. Saturnín Quinteros (33) – Ciudad Soluca
Big things were expected of a forward who caught the attention with a seventy four goal season for one of Ciudad’s many youth teams. Often used as an attacking midfielder at club level by Farías so more of the same could be expected.
FL: 23. Enzo Jara (28) – Sportivo Soluca
An out-and-out winger who offers pure pace down the flank. Capable of tying opposition defenders up in knots but often lacking composure in the final third.

Style
A counter attacking 4-5-1/4-3-3 hybrid. Probable starting eleven, listed from left to right.
Molino -- Urruti - Ayala - Lucena (c) - Ibarra -- Merino - Zacarías - Devesa - Rodríguez - Sola -- Noyola
Style Modifier = (+2)

Schedule

Big matches are hosted in our rather fancy Nethertopian built 108,879 capacity Estadio Generalissimo Joaquín Delgado in the Sargossan capital of Soluca.

- Hello and welcome to Spotlight on... I'm your host, Roderick Marsden. As the 22nd Copa Rushmori prepares for kick-off, we are turning our attention to the twenty one players who will go in search of the title for Kernansquillec. Having reached a first ever final last time out and having been seeded second this time around, the green and whites have their hopes up. But the road ahead is full of uncertainties. Four players join the senior squad for the first time, while Snijder and De Luca are promoted to the starting XI. The question on everyone's lips of course is, can they win it? We'll talk about that latter, but first things first, tonight I am not alone. My loyal aid Macy Hilton is with me of course. But we are also joined by a special guest, the Saintland-Kernansquillec Copa Rushmori tournament relations coordinator, Sister Elizabetha Gratus. Good evening Sister.

- Good evening Roderick. It's an honour to join you on your program and for Saintland to be hosting you for the Copa Rushmori.

- The honour's all mine Sister, I've heard nothing but positive things about Saintland and it's preparations for the tournament. We'll come back to the tournament and Saintland itself shortly, but first it's time to find out who are spotlight will be on tonight. Sister Elizabetha, would you do the honours?

- Certainly. Tonight's spotlight is on... Jakki Snijder!

- Have you heard of him?

- As a matter of fact, I have. We actually met earlier this week when Kernansquillec's team arrived at the St. Petrus airport. He's quite a charming young fellow and I've heard he's quite good on the field as well.

- We've heard so too! But before we talk any further about Jakki it's time for the spotlight. Macy, it's over to you.

- Thanks Roderick. Jakki Robert Snijder. The young defender was born just 22 years ago and here he is, now at the heart of Kernansquillec's defence. His journey began in Littlehampton, just to the west of New Southampton on Big Island. Growing up for Jakki started off in quite a difficult manner as it did for so many of the post-Great War generation. Born 11 years after the end of the war that scarred the land he was born just as football began to rebuild. By the time he was nine he started to play it, with his local Littlehampton juniors side. Five years on and the already giant of a defender was spotted by a scout from New Southampton as Kate Tyrgann started to rebuild one of Kernansquillec's biggest teams. The young man took little convincing to join the Saints as the clock ticked down to the restart of proper competitive football in Kernansquillec. While he missed out on the first few seasons, the teenager finally got a senior team contract at 19 years of age, just a year after having made his first appearance for the Kernansquillecan under 21s at the Di Bradini Cup. His first season saw New Southampton pull of the double as they won the First Division and the National Cup. That summer he also once again played for the under 21s, playing a key role in central defence. The following year wasn't as good as before on the field for the Saints, but Jakki managed to brake into the starting XI early on and sealed a place in the squad for the 72nd World Cup qualifiers. Despite disappointment at not qualifying and at falling at the first hurdle at the Cup of Harmony that followed, now Jakki has an opportunity to make his mark on Harry Broudant who has given him a chance to start at center-back along his team-mate and friend Adamina Bloxam. The New Southampton center-back pairing have looked good in the First Division, helping their side finish second in the league and will be key for Kernansquillec at the Copa as Broudant looks to improve his team's defensive record and better their second place finish of the last Copa Rushmori. Roderick that was your spotlight on Jakki Snijder.

- Thank you Macy! So Sister Elizabetha what do you think about Kernansquillec's young defensive star?

- I've been quite impressed by him. For such a young man he shows great composure under pressure and he has great vision which is such an important part in defending. But the scary things is that he is still improving despite already being one of the best defenders in the First Division as it stands. New Southampton are lucky to have him.

- I'm sure they are and to find out just how lucky they are we're joined by New Southampton's manager, Shanae Walker. Shanae, good evening or good afternoon rather.

- Yes good afternoon Roderick.

- Thanks for joining us, I'm sure you're trying to enjoy your holidays before the start of the new season so it's really kind of you to fit us in your schedule. So, Jakki Snijder, how good is he?

- He is very good. I've have the privilege to work with a number of great defenders during my time as a coach, and I've never seen one that was as solid as Jakki is at his age. He's unique in how quickly he's grown up and matured and I'm certainly glad that he's one of my players and not one of the oppositions'.

- But of course, Jakki isn't the only player you'll be keeping an eye on, a number of your players will be in action, six in total I believe. Do you see the Copa as a good thing or a bad thing for your pre-season preparations?

- It does bring an added risk of injury and fatigue of course, but this is what you have to accept is going to happen when you have really good players in your team. And I actually believe that it will allow them to better themselves. Last season our team lacked a bit of mental strength at times and the pressures of tournament football will allow these players to get used to playing under a lot of pressure against some of the best players in the world. As long as they bring back what they learn from these experiences I'm all for it.

- Thanks again for joining us Shanae. Enjoy the rest of your holidays!

- Thanks Roderick, take care!

- We're almost out of time here, but we've just got enough to come back to you again Sister Elizabetha. You've had some time to study Kernansquillec's team and to have a look at their group. Honestly, how do you see their tournament going?

- I do think they stand a good shot. They need to tighten things up in defence, but I think Broudant's changes will sort out the problems of the last World Cup. They should be able to get out of group H, after that who knows? And also, while I mention it, the group H games will take place in one of the most beautiful spots in Saintland at the St. Andreas Beach Stadium. The beach is just stunning but I'd advise supporters not to take a dip as the water is quite cold. We wouldn't want anyone to get sick.

- Indeed we wouldn't. However, speaking about the stadium, with it's artificial pitch and lack of stands for supporters, do you think it could affect the Kers who are more used to playing on grass in front of crowds upwards of 50,000?

- It could, but I doubt it. Saintland has done it's utmost to make sure the stadium has a world-class playing surface and supporters will still be able to watch the game, be it at the stadium itself or on TV.

- One final question, do you see Kernansquillec winning the Copa Rushmori this time around?

- If God wills it, yes.

- Let's hope he does. Thanks again Sister Elizabetha. Unfortunately that's all we've got time for. We'll be back on air after the game between Kernansquillec and Marion Oaks. Hopefully the Kers will get the three points they want. But until then, goodbye.
