Something Wonky with Influence?

Postby Daynor » Tue Aug 04, 2015 10:27 am

I have been in my current region for about a week. Last night, another nation moved from TEP. We are both WAs. He endorsed me so now I'm delegate. I've been in the region longer, and I've been delegate while he has not. Yet his influence is one ranking higher than mine.

It has to be counting his TEP influence when figuring his rank in my region. That's the only way he could be above me. And it doesn't seem like it should count it that way.

To my knowledge, influence should be working fine. When moving to another region, influence carries over, but the influence gained from the previous region slowly decays the longer said nation is in the new region.

But why should that decaying influence count toward your influence rank in you new region?

Because it's still influence.

If Donald Trump picked up and moved to Australia, he would have more influence in Australia than some random new college graduate settling there at the same time. Assuming the Aussies ignored his antics (which they should), his American influence would wane over time. Eventually, he'd be known locally only for what he did in his new home, not what he brought with him.

Trumps money would still be money though. Influence in a feeder makes you no more powerful in my region than a new member that was founded today.

If this scenario is how it works, if Alsted or some other nation with massive influence moved to a random dinky region, the whole region would immediately become a Minow for months until his influence faded away, and all that time his superpower influence ranking could be banned by any minow. Seems nonsensical to me.

Noooo. Now everyone will know how to tap influence from Feeders/Sinkers. :(

In all seriousness, as part of an influence study launched by my former region, it was discovered that moving a WA nation to an active Feeder or Sinker and gaining a lot of endorsements could help you gain influence that could potentially be used elsewhere. It was deemed "influence tapping" (like tapping a star for energy).

I believe it's normal.

Wait influence in one region DOES count in all regions?

Well, yeah. But as said, it doesn't stick around for long (relatively speaking).

I can't believe this is true. If so, my hundreds of puppets just got more useful. :lol2:

The above needs a bit of clarification, IMHO.

Influence does not carry over from one region to another. It never has.

What is happening is that when a nation with a lot of endorsements switches regions, it gets a one-time boost in Influence in the new region: it doesn't start at Influence level zero because it's coming in with some amount of 'fame'.

Keep in mind the Influence calculations themselves are not made public, and can change at any time without notice!
