OOC: Welcome to A Divided World. So, here's the basic story of this. This idea was created by Sanabel, who suggested a Balkanized USA that results in an American Front during the First World War. Unfortunately, he was to inexperienced to actually OP the RP himself, and he dumped the responsibility on me. So, here we go.
IC: The Union lost the Civil War. The Confederate Forces, after winning the Battle of Gettysburg, received full blown military support from the British, who invaded the USA from Canada, but only after the Confederacy promised to abolish slavery within It's borders. The CSA took Missouri, Kentucky, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Indian Territory, and Arizona-New Mexico Territory. The British took Oregon and Washington Territory. People in the Union became angry, the Union's loss against these rebels gave them the idea that the Union was frail. For years after, the Union was embroiled in more revolutions, various states declaring independence. New England and New York held a Second Hartford Convention, breaking away from the USA. California declared independence, and was soon joined by Nevada Territory, who joined them, and Utah Territory, who declared independence as the Republic of Deseret. Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa, Dakota Territory, Nebraska Territory, and Colorado Territory became the Great Plains Federation, and Pennsylvania and New Jersey voted to join the newly created United States of New England. The rest of the states became the Midwest Republic, which finally ended the turbulent United States. But enough about North America. In Europe, the situation is even messier. The Springtime of Nations, this time full of nationalist revolts, created new nations such as Ireland, Catalonia, Belgium, Greece, Romania, and Italy, which surprised everyone. The situation in Germany is a bit trickier. When the Prussians formed the North German Confederation, Austria viewed it as a threat, and organized it's allies of Bavaria, Baden, and Württemberg into the United Kingdoms of South Germany. The Franco-Prussian War never happened, instead, France gave Alsace to South Germany as a sign of the new friendship between Austria and France, allies against North Germany. The Quadruple Entente, formed to fight North Germany and it's allies, consisted of Austria-Hungary, France, South Germany, and Russia. Romania and Spain allied with Russia and France, making them associated with the Alliance. The Confederacy and the Great Plains also allied with the members of the Quad Entente, which would cause friction with other nations in North America. The Quadruple Alliance, the enemy of the Entente, was formed by Great Britain, North Germany, Portugal, and Italy. Serbia, Montenegro, and Bulgaria, enemies of Romania and Austria, aligned with the Alliance, as did New England and the Midwest Republic, both fearing the Confederacy, but accepting British help. The stage is set for war, and the Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary has just been assassinated by Gavrilo Princip, a Serbian Nationalist. The gears of the alliances begin to turn, and nothing can stop them now. It's either kill, or be killed. So you, great leader, will fight, for honor, glory, land, or simply rage, and you will lead your nation to a glorious victory, or a shameful defeat. Welcome, to A Divided World.
