SPORTERNAV.ARI - Armeia's Source for Sports

Welcome to Sporternav, the leading source in Armeia for sports news and information. We cover football, American football, hockey, and other sports, in addition to covering the three Armeian regional national teams and the unified national team. In Armeia, regional pride is very high, so we allow each region to have their own national team. The South, nicknamed the Norden, or Nordiques, are the most successful of these teams, however the West, nicknamed the Hurricanes or the Gunners, draw large crowds too, and the North, nicknamed the Ravens, have very successful players in the domestic league.

The Armeian Football System

D1
Our biggest league in terms of attendance and support is D1, the top domestic football league in the country. With 20 teams from all around the country, the league draws massive crowds every week and is known for it's exciting title races and ethnic diversity. Atlas and Lions are the giants and both share two titles a piece.

Winners:
Season 1: R.C Atlas
Season 2: Real Barrier
Season 3&4: R.C Lions
Season 5: R.C Atlas

W-Division 1

WD1 is our main women's league, and it started five years ago. It currently has ten teams with plans for more expansion next year, and it's one of the world's top women's leagues. The league has been dominated by the much maligned Northeastern Fem-Dragons, who have won the last three championships, but archrivals Vandals managed to snap that streak in season 5 when they shocked Hawks United on the last day by defeating Northeastern for the title.

Winners:
Season 1: Hawks United
Season 2-4: Northeastern
Season 5: Vandals

W-DIVISION 1: SEASON FIVE: MATCHDAY ONE

MATCHDAY 1
Northeastern 4-3 Blazers
Vandals 2-0 Southeastern
Hakws United 3-3 AFC Center City
Kobenhaven United 2-0 Lionesses

WD1 Standings

Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Northeastern 1 1 0 0 4 3 +1 3
2 Vandals 1 1 0 0 2 0 +2 3
3 Hakws United 1 0 1 0 3 3 +0 1
4 Kobenhaven United 1 1 0 0 2 0 +2 3
5 Lionesses 1 0 0 1 0 2 -2 0
6 AFC Center City 1 0 1 0 3 3 +0 1
7 Southeastern 1 0 0 1 0 2 -2 0
8 Blazers 1 0 0 1 3 4 -1 0

After the first matchday, the story of the week is Blazers, who fought boldly and took Northeastern to stoppage time before conceding a longshot to lose on the road. The University of Terrum Stadium was packed, with a sold out crowd of 25,000 showing up to see their Dragons take on the newly promoted Republikan side, Blazers. "We should have fought harder," said Petra Jennings, the captain of the Blazers. "Next time we won't let our fans down."

Hawks United suffered a scare against AFC Center City, requiring two goals to come back in the second half. Usually a dominant team, Hawks manager Brandon Tjaeder was unhappy with the performance. "We're an elite team, we need to play like one," he told the press. "Our defense was abysmal, you can be sure we'll be coming in with a changed lineup next game."

Despite fanatical home support, Lionesses lost in front of a 30,000 crowd to archrivals Kobenhaven. The two clubs have always had a bad history due to the Armeia-Denmark war and the forced integration of Denmark, but tempers flared as a Lionesses player was sent off for throwing a punch in the 75th minute. Fortunately for the blue and white faithful, other teams put in worst performances, leading to the team staying out of the bottom three.

Lionesses 0-1 Vandals
Kobenhaven United 3-0 Hakws United

WD1 Table

Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Northeastern 2 2 0 0 5 3 +2 6
2 Vandals 2 2 0 0 3 0 +3 6
3 Kobenhaven United 2 2 0 0 5 0 +5 6

6 AFC Center City 2 1 1 0 5 4 +1 4
7 Southeastern 2 0 0 2 0 3 -3 0
8 Blazers 2 0 0 2 4 6 -2 0

NORTHEASTERN WINS AGAIN: In a heated match, Northeastern went into Sundens City and defeated the hometown team, Southeastern. It took yet another late goal, with team captain and starting center back Marija Johannson striking home a shot from the free kick spot to win in the 88th minute. "We should have played better," she said after the match. "But a win is a win. The locker room atmosphere is great, everyone can't wait to get back to Terrum and play in front of our own fans."

The Dragons celebrate after their win...

LIONESSES CHOKE IN SECOND HALF: Lionesses were tied 0-0 with a far better Vandals team at halftime, a team that should be contending for titles, however their goalkeeper Mara Fuller butchered a clearance and scored an own goal, deflecting the ball off of her hands and into the net in the 69th minute. "I blew it for us..." she told reporters. "There's no way to spin it that says I didn't blow it.'

CHAOS IN KROATIEN: Blazers will be forced to play the next home match with half of the stadium closed as punishment for fans throwing flares at AFCCC players at halftime and after the loss. The team has also been fined 250k and warned by the Repulika Kroatien Football Federation.

TEAM PROFILE: Vandals FC

To help fans learn more about the various sports teams in Armeia, Sporternav is releasing a series of team profiles. First off is the women's football side from Cora City, Vandals.

Full Team Name: Vandals Football Club
Affiliate: I.K Cora City
Colors: Purple, grey, and White. The supporters wear black as 'war colors'.
Main Supporters Groups: Auburn Avenue Elite, Inferno CC
Founded: Twelve years ago, as Cora City Women
Stadium: Haas Field, North Cora City

History and Info: Vandals was founded originally as a women's team for IKCC, as a part of the Armeian W-League, a largely unsuccessful women's league. Despite losing money for it's parent club, CCW quickly built a following in the working class neighborhood of North Cora City, mainly because they had far more success than the men's team. When the W-League folded and was replaced by WD1, IKCC bought the rights to one of the eight teams, and started Vandals. Named after the Germanic tribe, the club developed a strong punk subculture, with many players being fans of the men's team.

The first season wasn't a success, with Vandals finishing seventh out of eight, but Inferno CC, the main ultras group, was founded that year and brought many new fans to the team. Vandals became known throughout the country for their punk culture, and their violent clashes with socialist fans of Northeastern, and Croatian nationalist fans from the Republika Kroatien. The team and it's fans have a strong capitalist agenda and a anti-communist one, the result of the toll that the communist rebels took on Cora City.

The second season of Vandals FC was worse, the team escaping relegation on the final day after beating Southeastern by enough goals to stay up. The fanbase became more and more agitated, with a full on riot happening after the rivalry match vs Northeastern, near the end of the season. The old manager was sacked, and Vandals signed highly touted Blazers youth product Petra Jennings on loan for the year. This move worked well, with Jennings scoring fourteen goals in her first season as the starting right winger. Season three ended with Vandals finishing third, beating out Hawks United for the position, and also finishing as a semifinalist in the National Cup, the Armeian open tournament that's held every year.

In season four, Petra Jennings rejected a permanent deal from Vandals to return to her childhood club, Blazers. The team looked good early but collapsed late, and lost the rivalry match to Northeastern. The supporters were once again outraged, both ultras groups boycotting the last five games of the season when it was clear Jennings would be leaving, despite Blazers being relegated to the second division two year. The manager was once again sacked, and replaced by popular manager Conor Svedsson.

Svedsson made seven transfers in his first window as manager, spending a total of forty five million to set up a title challenge, and now things are looking bright. Vandals lies in second place, with three wins in three matches, and is getting sellouts every match. The violence against socialists from the North still continue, however these are to be expected, as in matches between the Western Armeia and Northern Armeia national teams, and a poll last year revealed that Vandals is the most supported team in the West and the third most supported overall.

Facts:

The club's supporters have adopted the black and grey checkered flag as their symbol, as well as the skull and crossbones symbol. These flags can both be seen around North Cora City and at the stadium during matchdays. While the club's official colors are purple, grey, and white, black is used much more by fans when attending matches.

The club also has a distinct game day tradition, where the Auburn Avenue Elite and Inferno CC march down Auburn Avenue and into the stadium. The AAE is also known for only chanting in German, the regional language of West Armeia.

The club, like the rest of the region, has strong ties to Serbia, as Armeia fought on Serbia's side on two occasions in the Yugoslav wars, and took in many Serb refugees. Serbian and Yugoslav flags can be found all around the stadium, and star defender Tabea Branovic is Serbian.

2 Vandals 4 4 0 0 9 1 +8 12
3 Hakws United 4 1 1 2 5 8 -3 4

7 Southeastern 4 1 0 3 1 5 -4 3
8 Blazers 4 0 0 4 7 13 -6 0

It was an eventful week even though a couple teams were missing players because of the U-18 World Cup, and Hawks and Vandals were missing their managers. The story of the week was the football riot after Vandals-Blazers. Vandals easily took a win at home, against their much hated rivals from the Republika Kroatien, but after the match, traveling Blazers supporters started a large brawl outside the stadium. Knives, shivs, and bottles were used, and two Blazers fans are dead after the fight ended in a rout, much like the match. The RKFA hasn't issued a statement on this yet.

Northeastern still holds an edge on Vandals, but both teams are dominant, Northeastern only leading on goals for.

THE TRANSFER SPECIAL, PART ONE

Here at Sporternav we're always following the transfer market, and as the window recently opened, we're covering the moves around WD1. Starting us off is a ballsy move from Vandals, to sign Mara Fuller. This move shocked everyone, and many from inside the Vandals organization say that this was a shock to them. 29, Mara Fuller has been with Lionesses since before the club existed in it's current form, and the transfer fee to take her away from her hometown team will reportedly be fifteen million Armeian dollars. Critics are concerned because of her age, saying that she's close to the downside of her career, but Vandals is a young team that lacks veteran leadership, and this move looks to solve that and help for the title push later in the season.

Vandals also made another shock move, shelling out thirty million to bring Petra Jennings back to her old club. Being of partial Croat descent, this has outraged some Vandals supporters, but Conor Svedsson has defended this by saying that Jennings has always preferred Armeia to the Republika Kroatien, and that this signing will help with the title race. There is one more signing by this team, they have signed eighteen year old playmaker Isabella Sault on a free transfer, with Sault leaving high school this year.

Hawks made a signing from the Loftus College team, picking up the top scorer of the U-18 national team, Draga Schraeder. 16, Schraeder will most likely go on loan to another league or to the second division until the end of the season at least. Schraeder will make four million this year and depending on if she goes on loan or not, five million in three years.

THE TRANSFER LIST:

While Vandals and Hawks are the only squads to have made actual signings, we have compiled a list of players from the Armeian national teams that are listed by their clubs. A star(*) denotes that the player is listed for loan instead of transfer.

D1 PREVIEW: SEASON FIVE

It's finally here, our preview of the one and only Division One. 18 teams, one champion, and today we're going to show you who we think will win, who will qualify for Europe, and who's going to be in the second division next season. These are our team previews in order of the teams who finished first to last last season.

R.C Lions: The defending champs for two straight seasons, Lions comes into the season with a deep defense and a midfield that doesn't concede many goals or give away possession often. National team midfielder Milan Toure gives excellent distribution and passing to the team, while his partner in the 4-1-2-1-2 formation, 30 year old veteran Soren Bayer, provides vision and the ability to both attack and defend well. The future is bright for Lions, as U-18 NT keeper Augustus Lenz plays for the club and recently signed a contract to stay there for the next two years.

R.C Atlas: Atlas are the Yankees of Armeia, if the Yankees only had a single title. The winners of the year one competition and the owners of women's team Hawks United, Atlas has more money than anyone else due to funding from NavArmeia, the largest corporation in the country. Last season was disappointing, with Atlas losing out to Lions by twelve points at the end of the season, but this year the team has added national team forward Kay Neno and midfielder Tilo Abramsson. Atlas plays an attacking 4-2-4 with a pivot in the midfield, and Abramsson looks to be the starting attacking mid at the beginning of the season. From Loftus, Armeia's largest city, the team is very well supported.

Real Barrier: The new kids on the block so to speak, Real are the kings of Barrier Island right now, and also hold the title of Kings of the North, as the team finished with the best record of Northern Armeian teams. Two years ago were the best years for this club, as their crosstown rivals from Barrier City, Dinamo, were relegated, and they were bought out by a very wealthy billionaire in the space of a month. Since the buyout, Real has been by far the biggest spender in the transfer market, bringing in national team midfielder Klemens Lauritz, and defenders Werner Ivo and Alek Sander. Real, also known as Cruz Blanca Barrier, or just Cruz, because of their location in the Cruz Blanca neighborhood, plays with an attacking style that has won them many fans outside of Barrier Island. Also, the club has a cult following and has the largest ultras organization in the league.

I.K Cora City: More known for their women's team, IKCC has a rebuilt team that's ready to contend for a title, even with the loss of Dierk Tanzer to the transfer market. The Royals have signed many youth talents, and are set to give the older teams a run for their money with a top defense and a dangerous offense. IKCC is known internationally for having extreme right wing supporters, and sometimes neo-Nazi supporters, although that isn't uncommon considering the majority of Armeians support the far right.

Terrum Reds: The Terrum Reds are the oldest club in Armeia, founded in 1934, and have a total of twenty titles throughout their history, competing in various leagues. But recently they haven't been a dynasty, winning their last title in 1983 in the old Armeian Rules League, and the team was relegated to the second division in the previous incarnation of D1. However the Reds are back on the scene of relevancy after receiving a buyout and building around Marius Switzer, the 35 year old national team forward. The Reds play a traditional 4-4-2, with a possession focused style of play.

Sporting Forge: Another one of the four 'New Kids' clubs, along with Cruz Blanca, Kyang Steelers, and Songhaven. Sporting was in the second division at the start of D1, and in season three they were nearly relegated and sent back there, but a excellent youth academy and good funding has led to them becoming a contender for UICA spots. Sporting Forge has close ties to Southeastern of WD1, and both clubs have the same owners.

Aarhus Flames: Aarhus produces good players, but unfortunately nobody who becomes a star there stays. Maybe it has to do with the 'boring' defensive style of play, or maybe it's the tiny stadium and bad funding. Whatever it is, this team has had to put up with their players being poached, ever since they joined D1.

Athletic Club Cora City: One of Armeia's few 'Spanish' clubs, Athletic is IKCC's little brother, although at a time they were the bigger club from the city. The team is known for going all out on the attack, playing a 4-2-4.

New Split FC: The most supported club in the autonomous zone of the Republika Kroatien, NSFC hasn't won anything but still maintains great support, and has a strong Orthodox identity. This has caused conflicts with supporters from the Catholic North of Armeia, and the atheist West. and fans of archrivals IKCC and Terrum City call the club 'Orthodox FC' as an insult, and matches between these teams always have crowd trouble. New Split has a partnership with Blazers, the women's team from the same city.

Kyang Steelers: The first New Kid club, Kyang was floundering in the third division four years ago, but a takeover by Kyang Steel's CEO allowed the club to reach D1 and achieve moderate success. Kyang reached the semifinals of the National Cup last season, before being eliminated by eventual winners Songhaven.

Songhaven United: Like Kyang, Songhaven was in the third division five years ago, and like Kyang, they were bought out by a rich CEO who bought them some players and pumped tons of money into the academy, allowing the Songbirds to develop some of the best youth talent. Four players from the U-18 National Team were associated with the Songhaven academy at some time, a testament to how good the team is at development. United also won the National Cup last season, defeating a dominant Northeastern squad in the final, after scoring in double overtime to equalize after conceding, and then winning a penalty shootout.

I.K Southern: Located in Sudens City, a small port town in Southern Armeia, I.K knows the value of hard work. This team doesn't have star players, but instead they rely on a defensive system that is based on teammwork and hustle. The team finished 7th the year before last, but has fallen on hard times recently.

Sporting Center City: The other team in Loftus, you kind of have to be a masochist to support SCC over Atlas. While their neighbors splash the cash on the best players, and get sell outs every game, SCC is usually battling relegation. This is their best year in D1 so far, and in season two they were relegated to D2 and nearly went bankrupt. The club was saved by their crosstown rival, Atlas, who gave them a large amount of money in a for a couple transfers, and this kept the club afloat.

Bastille FC: Located in Bastille, a suburban area outside of Loftus, this club is pretty new, as it was founded three seasons ago. In this time it was a semifinalist in the National Cup, and it achieved promotion from D2 to make it here. They have a rivalry with SCC and also D2 side Redtown FC.

AFC Shogun: The other Asian team, AFC Shogun is from Kyara City, Northern Armeia. Known for mostly playing Asians, AFCS has a strong rivalry with Kyang, and the matches between them are known as the 'Japan Derby' because of the high number of ethnic Japanese supporters for both teams.

Rosetown FC: From a suburb of Redtown, Rosetown somehow succeeds while spending almost no money in the transfer market. The club has had no transfers since a season and a half ago, and their record signing is 300k NSD. The club has a strong casual culture and many ethnic English fans.

Dynamo Terrum: The team from the Russian area of Terrum, Dynamo is always making a political statement. The club was fined 5 million last season after wearing kits featuring the Hammer and Sickle symbol, which, while not officially banned, is de facto forbidden. They have a strong friendship with Dinamo Barrier, the other 'communist club' in Armeia. On the pitch they're very attacking but very bad at defending.

CSKARK: The other Republika Kroatien club, the Central Sporting Club of the Army of the Republika Kroatien is loved in New Split and hated everywhere else. Led by RK national team player Cal Jennings, CSKARK avoided relegation on the final day last season, falling in success after the death of their last owner. CSKARK is an Orthodox club like NSFC is, so there's crowd troubles whenever they play teams from Terrum.

Dinamo Barrier(promoted from D2): Real's little brother, Dinamo just made it back to their former place in D1. The club is famous for their socialist politics and have been declared by Sporternav as the 'working class team of Armeia'. While their rivals from Cruz Blanca have celebrity fans and a following all around the country, Dinamo is the club of the lower class, the club of the hookers and drug dealers and other undesirables. The club plays a tiki taka style, that led to them winning D2 by seventeen points last season.

Terrum City(promoted from D2): Smaller than both Dynamo and the Reds, City is back in the first division for the first time in twenty five years, having been relegated in a previous version of D1 and never recovering. A possession based team that runs with a 4-3-2-1, City walked over much of D2 despite not challenging for the title. The club has a strong rivalry with Terrum Reds, which has now been renewed because of their rise to the first division. They also have a MASSIVE hooligan presence.

HISTORY MADE!
Image
Lions fans celebrate the second goal by their team by doing the Poznan.
"Born in 1994, Lions, Lions! Born in 1994 Lions, Lions! We're born in 1994 and now we win like never before, we all follow Racing Club Lions!" was the chant that rained from the upper terrace at Tytan Stadium as R.C Lions became the first team to gain an international berth, beating Kairaku Nymphs to at least secure a spot in the Globe Cup preliminaries. The first match was a 1-1 draw in Kairaku, but the energy of the stadium powered Lions to victory in the second, home leg.

The away match wasn't much to watch, with Lions taking a defensive approach against a better Nymphs squad, and defender Chris Stokes scored the lone goal, heading it in from a corner kick. The home leg however saw Lions taking a different approach, shifting from their usual careful defensive play to more of a tiki taka style, credited to third year head coach Illya Muller. Muller's side controlled sixty five percent of the possession, and Milan Toure and Soren Bayer dominated the midfield, proving that the lethal pairing is working.

Image
Toure is dogpiled by his teammates after his match clinching goal

Lions broke through in the 76th minute, when Soren Bayer passed to Milan Toure through the defense, who deked the keeper and tapped in the ball for an easy goal. "It was a great goal," said Muller after the match, when asked about it. "It pumped up the team and gave them the energy to finish strong."

However Lions took a loss to their next opponent, and now find themselves in the Globe Cup third preliminary round.

SONGHAVEN MONEYBALLERS TAKE HOME SUPER CUP

They won the National Cup. They just came off of one of their best league finishes ever. And now they lift the Super Cup after a shocking 2-1 win over R.C Lions. This is Songhaven United, the club on the cutting edge of innovation, using advanced stats to break everything down into a science. Our story actually begins five years ago, when Markus Reach(the brother of Armeian billionaire Karl Reach) bought the majority of the club, putting a lot of money into the academy and allowing the Songbirds to escape the third division. Except unlike most rich owners, he focused on winning through efficiency instead of through spending large amounts on transfers.

Under Reach's oversight, the Songbirds invented a system called the NEXT metric, that measures the performance of players in key areas and breaks this down into easily readable data that can be compared against other players. But NEXT doesn't just apply to players, it measures team skill too, without considering goals. According to Reach, goals doesn't equal skill, and instead other categories such as shot conversion ratio and chances created are better for measuring team quality.

Fast forward to Songhaven in the second division. Reach's appointed manager, Corey Blanc, used the NEXT metric to find D1 quality players who were playing for division two and three clubs. The Songbirds picked up striker Terinho and midfielders Darman Kovacic and Chase Carlisle in the second window of Blanc's tenure, and all three of these players turned into star D1 players after picking up good ratings via the NEXT metric.
Image
Songhaven United lifts last year's National Cup after penalty kicks.
Before the National Cup final last season, Songhaven had a '43.6 percent' chance according to Blanc of upsetting WD1 champs Northeastern, who had defeated Hawks United, Kyang Steelers, Redtown FC, and Dinamo Barrier to get to where they were. But unlike Northeastern, the Songbirds had the match down to a science, literally. While Northeastern used the same tactic in both halves, Songhaven based their second half strategy around the first half's metrics, allowing them to push Northeastern to penalty kicks and eventually win.
Image
Terinho celebrates the game winning goal.
Now the Songbirds are back to their old tricks, coming back and scoring a sixty ninth minute winner against Lions to lift the Super Cup, the competition between the winner of D1 and the National Cup winner. Terinho scored the winner, chipping it over the keeper, right after cutting inside from the left corner of the box, which metrics measured as the weakest point in the usually top notch Lions defense. The Songbirds also avoided conceding more than once to a better team. Why? Because the metrics told them how Lions score the majority of their goals, and they were able to close down late on Milan Toure and Soren Bayer, the two key midfielders on Lions.

Yes, Songhaven United might not be the most talented team, or the richest, or most historic, but they've broken the game down into numbers and used those numbers to win, something that most teams haven't been able to do. And that has made them the reigning Super Cup champions.

The opening week of D1 is filled with shocks, as Atlas lost 2-0 to newly promoted Dinamo Barrier in the opening match! New signing Augustinius scored both goals, making the sold out Armeia-Energy Arena go insane when he nutmegged the keeper for his second goal of the match in the third minute of extra time.

Lions was also held to a draw by underdogs Terrum City, who played tough defense to keep Milan Toure quiet most of the match.

In other news, Sporting Center City is nearing a buyout by Karl Reach, who is currently looking for a new manager for the team. The top ranked candidate is Songhaven assistant Ray Columbus, one of the best advanced metric users in the game.

This week had a surprise, as Vandals took the first loss of their season to AFC Center City, which was just bought out by Karl Reach, the brother of advanced stats icon Markus Reach. Captain and star defender Amy Abramsen scored the only goal, heading in a cross before the keeper could react. Elsewhere, Lionesses get their first positive result of the season, drawing with the most disappointing team of the year, Hawks United. Hawks went down before equalizing in the fiftieth minute on a long shot goal by 21 year old striker Kameron Hamsik, the winner of last season's Golden Boot and the future striker of the new co-ed national team. Hawks is considering sacking Brandon Tjaeder, and word from inside the organization says his sacking is imminent if top prospect Sayo Matsuoka isn't signed. Kobenhaven's great run came to an end, as they were demolished by Northeastern, in a match where there was a small fight between the goalkeepers near the end, over what Northeastern's manager called an unfair red card on them.

HAMSIK LASHES OUT
Image
Hamsik during the match versus Lionesses

The Hawks locker room seems to be collapsing faster than the Berlin Wall did, with superstar Kameron Hamsik taking shots at the management. "They told me they'd give me a small four year entry contract," she told Sporternav's Kane Zorasson. "I said fine, and took two million a year. Of course, they didn't predict that I'd become a star, and last year when I had 36 goals all comps, they said I'd get a megadeal and that I would be the highest paid player in the league."

"What went wrong?" asked Zorasson, as most of the other players were leaving the pitch after last match.

"They f*cking lied... They're telling me that they can't afford to pay me because there's 'more promising' players on the market that they want to lure here," said Hamsik. "I don't know if they're nervous about paying me because I'm coming off a pregnancy or what, but I think they just don't want me here."

It is true that Hamsik is coming off of a pregnancy, which caused her to miss the end of last season. "Are you likely to be back in a Hawks jersey next season?"

Hamsik shook her head. "If they get me my money... Fine. If not, I'm off to a team who appreciates me, maybe Southeastern. I want eighteen million this year and I doubt they'll see things my way."

Credit to Flardania for this statement...

Sayo Matsuoka has spoken out about the recent contract hold out with Kameron Hamsik and Hawks United, saying this: "I think the biggest mistake that Hawks United did was offering Hamsik a mega deal as that kills any chance of negotiations. At the same time two with both parties involved, it's hard to see why HU would be quick to offer such a large increase and one must wonder why Hamsik needs 18 Million dollars so badly child or not."

Hamsik replied via Twitter, with somewhat of a cryptic message.

CHANGING TIDES IN LOFTUS

Athletics Road in Scarborough, the biggest suburb in the Loftus Metro Area(LMA) is being taken over by a sea of red, as protesters march towards the gates of the R.C Atlas offices. They're protesting their teams slipping from the upper echelon of success to mediocrity, while their rivals from the Center City enjoy a buyout by Karl Reach that will most likely bring new success. I talked to Jorgen 'JJ' Jakobsen the leader of Atlas and Hawks ultras firm LO2, the largest support group in the country by numbers. "We're getting overtaken left and right by Vandals, Northeastern, Real Barrier, Lions... Now AFC and Sporting Center City," he started. "And now Hakws is about to lose Kameron Hamsik to Southeastern, after we just missed out on signing Sayo Matsuoka... We need change soon or we'll become a mediocre club."
Image
Reina Toure takes a shot in a match for Hawks II against Kobenhaven II.
AFC Center City had just completed their first transfer after the takeover, signing Sayo Matsuoka to a two year contract, and in addition she promised not to sign for Hawks if she opted out after the first year. "Tyra Halloway is one of the best prospects we've seen in awhile," continued JJ, "But for some reason she can't get in games consistently for the senior team. Tjaeder needs to sort it out. And for some reason, Reina Toure still hasn't been called up to the senior squad. I don't know why Tjaeder doesn't trust our youth, but he seems to lean towards selecting older players."

On the subject of the men's team, Atlas, JJ sighed. "Kay Neno isn't as good as everyone thought he'd be, but I can't blame the board for signing him. Tilo has been great but in a pivot with just two mids, both midfielders have to perform, not just one. And again, the management doesn't trust our youth enough, otherwise they wouldn't have sold Marc-Andre Zupan."

JJ's closing comments were somewhat pessimistic, but also sensible. "Hawks needs a change at manager or we'll get left in the dust by our rivals. If Holly Jonasson really is on the hot seat for Southeastern and the national team, then I say we go with her. Otherwise we should go all out to get a manager from another league who has experience with a team like this. Brandon Tjaeder did great for us before but now I'm convinced he's more of a tactician than a real manager who can build a roster and maintain it."

TEARFUL EXIT FOR TJAEDER:
Image
Tjaeder on the sideline at the end of the Hawks-Northeastern match.

Hawks United kept their word, sacking Brandon Tjaeder after a 4-2 win over Northeastern, because of his failure to sign Sayo Matsuoka. Tjaeder gave an emotional press conference after the match. "I... I don't hold any ill will against the board or anyone at this team. Over the past five years I've come to love this club, and I can say that winning the treble with us is the only moment in my life better than the birth of my daughter. I'm close friends with many of the players here and I doubt that will change just because I'm managing somewhere else... To the next manager of Hawks, listen to the fanbase. I didn't and it made me go from a top three manager in the league to being unemployed in the space of a few months. And to Kameron, I tried to fight for you and get you your money, I understand why you need it, and I'm sorry the board wouldn't listen. So... I guess this is the end of my time in the Atlas football system. I want to thank everyone who gave me a chance to go on that five year run, and I hope one day I can manage for Atlas once again."

The fans aren't exactly reacting well to this. Hooligan group J-Sector clashed with ultras group LO2 after the match, as J-Sector is famously pro-Tjaeder and many in LO2 supported his sacking. Sporternav will provide updates as this develops.

FULLER NOT THE RIGHT ONE FOR VANDALS?:

Image
Mara Fuller hangs her head after conceding an own goal.

It was a rough night in Cora City, as new Vandals goalkeeper Mara Fuller continued to have a hard time settling in. Vandals was leading Kobenhaven 1-0 in minute 77 but Mara Fuller butchered a clearance on a cross to knock the ball into her own net. Vandals is a club that doesn't usually turn on it's players, but that wasn't the case tonight. Chants of "Go back to Little Scotland(a derogatory name for Redtown, Fuller's home city)" rained down from the stands after the goal, and Fuller was pulled out of the match to allow 18 year old keeper Pandora Reimfeller to play. Pandora saved the match, making five saves in the last thirteen minutes, including a penalty save near the end.
Image
Reimfeller playing on loan last season.

Pandora gave an interview after the match, questioning why the fans love her so much more than the more experianced Fuller. "I think it's because I'm German," she said. "Vandals is kind of a German club, right? I actually have a Latino grandparent and I'm from Barrier Island so I don't know if that's it... But yeah, I think they should be nicer to Mara, she's been through a lot of bad things to get here."

When asked about starting next match, Pandora grinned. "I dunno, I was talking to Conor and he says I'll start next match... But he says there's no guarantee I'll be playing in goal."

It's common for Armeian goalies to play other positions. In fact, Rein Veimer the current national team keeper was a former center back, however it's unusual for someone like Pandora, who's only played keeper, to move out from goal. Whatever Conor Svedsson has in store, we can't wait to see it.

BATTLE OF THE NORTHWEST CALLED EARLY, FINISHES 1-1:
Image
The TerrumDome before the match
It's that time of year again. The Battle of the Northwest rivalry kicked off again, being played inside the TerrumDome, with seating expanded from 80,000 to 105,000 for this match. Instead of the usual riot police, the military were on hand with tanks(albeit without real ammunition), APCs, and combat gear to prevent anything from kicking off with the traveling Vandals supporters and the Dragon-Pit, the Northeastern supporters. Vandals-Northeastern is by far the largest rivalry in the league, and the players felt it too, with not one, not two, but three red cards during the match.

Things went quietly until minute 38 when Northeastern full back Leonne Warner fouled Petra Jennings before she could take a long ranged shot, leading to central midfielder Pandora Reimfeller(who didn't get the start in goal that she expected) starting a brawl that stopped the match. Pandora was sent off as a result of this, and she spent the rest of the match in the stands with the traveling fans.

The first goal came from Northeastern striker Christa Cruz in minute 46, who tapped in a shot with her weak foot after getting a breakaway chance down the field on a counter attack.
Image
Petra Jennings takes a shot for Vandals.
The second red card came when Petra Jennings kicked Leonne Warner in the groin when defending, retaliation for the earlier foul. Jennings was sent off, and Vandals went down to 9 players. But Northeastern's two player advantage didn't last long because Cruz was sent off for dissent after shoving the referee in minute 64, when she had a 'unfair' offsides called against her. Vandals managed to come back when Isabella Sault passed the ball to herself and did a bicycle kick, blasting it back to the keeper in minute 70.
The match had to be stopped again in the 80th minute because of flares being thrown on the pitch from the South Stand, and a fight broke out between the Dragon-Pit and Inferno Cora City during the break. Chains, bottles, and shivs are reported to have been used, and after the fight was stopped, the referees decided to stop the match as it stood and award a 1-1 draw to the teams.
Pandora Reimfeller is quickly turning into a fan favorite at Vandals, and this is what she said at the end of the match. "I've never played a match like this before... It's crazy to have something like 90,000 hostile fans screaming at you when you get the ball, but we had a lot of traveling fans here that helped. It's so intense on the pitch, I can't wait to see how things will turn out when the series comes back to Cora City."
Pandora is now reportedly a Hawks United prospect, which she didn't comment on.

IN OTHER NEWS:

Former Hawks target Sayo Matsuoka scored the game winner in minute number 15 for AFC Center City, who edged out Lionesses 1-0. AFCCC however still drops to fifth because of the demolition job performed this week by Hawks United, who won 5-0 despite not having a manager. Holly Jonasson may keep her job for a bit longer, after defeating a hot Kobenhaven team 2-4 in a match where new signings Melissa Sanders and Skarlet Johnson scored in the second half.

Brandon Tjaeder managing during a match against AFC Center City this season.

Newly unemployed former Hawks manager Brandon Tjaeder is in hot water after rumors began circulating that he is the father of Kameron Hamsik's son, Filip. This is upsetting to Tjaeder's family, as he already has a sixteen year old daughter with his long time wife. His daughter Melanie spoke out about these rumors on social media.

Image

However Kameron Hamsik released a statement that doesn't really confirm or deny the rumors. "Are these rumors true? I can't say... I'll be honest, I was with a lot of guys last year. There's no reason to assume Filip is Brandon's son, and frankly, I've got no idea who the father is."

Tjaeder has since been released from his position as assistant manager of the U-18 national team, and is now the favorite to take over at Southeastern if Holly Jonasson receives the sack at the end of the year.

Hawks fans follow their team into the heart of Loftus for the LMA derby.
The story of the week is the LMA derby, and Hawks came out as the victorious team in the Loftus Metro Area. Hawks United fans painted the town red as HUFC stormed into Center City and demolished AFC CC 3-0, with one goal from Kameron Hamsik and two from Reina Toure, both in the second half, who gained her first appearance for the senior team. Hawks still doesn't have a real manager and was managed to a win by 39 year old goalkeeper Ariel Proux, the oldest player on the team and a former captain. "Some of the younger players don't know how much this match means," said Ariel after the match. "But the veterans definitely do and the fans do too, I think everyone that's been here for the full five years and anyone that was here since the days of Atlas Women know that we despite CC and everything they stand for. It's always great to get a one up over them."

Mara Fuller warms up with Vandals despite not starting
Not too far away, in Sudens City, Vandals escaped with a 2-1 win in a match where Pandora Reimfeller started in goal over Mara Fuller. Pandora only allowed one goal, on a longshot, and analysts say she played very well, making five saves in the second half to secure the win. "I'm just taking everything one day at a time," she said at a interview afterwards. "I haven't been paying any attention to transfer rumors, I just want to play."
So far nobody from the Vandals camp has issued a statement on who the starting goalkeeper is heading into next match.

Takeru Saotome on Left, Himawari Park on Right

TS:Welcome to Sports in Review Express edition on the KBC Network, I'm Saotome Takeru

HP: And I am Park Himawari, and we are here to give you an update on Sayo Matsuoka, the U-18 star who decided to try her hand playing internationally.

TS: Right now she is joining us from Loftus via satellite coming off of the 3-0 loss to rivals Hawks United, the other team that made her final two list.

HP: So Sayo you had to face HU in the Loftus Metro Area derby, what was it like.

SM: It clearly meant a lot to everyone in the city, it's all the local media would talk about and HU simply invaded. Metaphorically and literally.

TS: Can you please explain to our viewers?

SM: For example after the match I flicked through the channels and I see Ariel [Proux] being interview and she said that Hawks United dislikes everything CC stands for which basically comes out to be oh we think English is better than French. Well CC dislikes Hawks United for the inverse and the fact that our opponents come in from Scarborough to Centercity and because they are better known drown out the team that has higher Loftus supporters.

HP: Real quick do you have any regrets? And if so or if not, why?

SM: No I have no regrets, I know what I'm getting into by joining a rebuilding team. If AFC CC what's to get better they need players to take a chance with the team and help the team attract other players in an attempt to start something special. It is also more fulfilling to the fans in my opinion then seeing teams with many potential over payed players. Also Hawks United seemed to have locker room problems and I shudder being in that locker room after the rumors of the Hamsik and Trdjer affair rumors.

TS: Thank you for joining us.

SM: Thanks for having me.

HP: That is it for this edition of Sports in Review express. KBC World News is next.

Western fans in Forge before the match vs Southern
The Regions Cup is the competition held every year in Armeia, where the national teams of each of the three regions play each other for the national title. Northern are the defending champs but after a disappointing showing that had them finish last with a goal differential of -6, their archrivals Western are the Champions of Armeia. The top scorer was Kameron Hamsik of Southern, who bagged six goals despite a second place finish, followed by Edi Dragic of the West, who scored five goals for the winning team.

The cities of Cora City and Forge will be kept awake tonight by the celebrations, as Western's players return home for the domestic season again, this time bringing back the Crown trophy that's awarded every year. This is what Armeian athletes had to say about the tournament.

Kay Neno, Barrier Island Street National Team and Atlas: I know as someone from the North this sounds strange but I really like what Western is doing. Nobody on that squad is bigger than the team, they came in and showed everyone how to win as a team and their fans are finally rewarded with a title after so many years.

Anja Gunnarsson, Armeian MMA fighter: It's been an incredible week and a half for Western, and as someone from Cora City, I can say that you don't understand how much it means unless you're from there. The boys played their hearts out this tournament, it's fully deserved, and I can't wait for the celebrations to kick off. Eighteen years of waiting just makes it sweeter.

Tamara Asker, Armeian international basketball player: The drought is finally over! Eighteen years and we finally did it! It's kind of surreal, knowing I was only two years old when we first won it, and growing up in Forge and hearing everyone talk about how the drought was over and how we needed to win... I remember when Southern won and we finished second for four years in a row and I thought I was gonna go crazy, but it's so worth it to know that we finally got a win.

Sebastian Holjmark, Armeian national team winger(hockey): I'm kind of pissed at Southern because we played so bad but hey, at least the best team actually won this year. Edi Dragic looked pretty unstoppable, he's someone I'd like to hang out with and learn a few things from.
