How are pregnant women treated in your nation?

Postby Revitallia » Tue Jul 21, 2015 9:44 pm

In Revitallia, before the revolution, pregnant women were treated very well, because it is an ancient belief that if a pregnant woman was mistreated, she would then carry the person who mistreated her inside her. It's thousands of years old, but it stuck. No-one believes it anymore, but it's traditional now.

Post-revolution, pregnant woman are either basically worshipped or treated averagely. If they are carrying no more than twins, then they have no special treatment. More than twins, and they've got every special treatment imaginable.

All of this was based on old folk tales from the ancient Revitallian Empire 1.5 thousand years ago.
EDIT: Forgot to add that maternity leave is banned in my country, with the exception of 1 week after birth. It's to discourage women from working.

So what about your countries NS? How are pregnant women treated and why?

Like literally everyone else except for Inner Party members: terribly.

The fact that Barboneians are going to be artificially reproduced by early 2016 also makes a negative social stigma towards pregnant women, since they are pretty much liabilities incapable of working.

Permitted 4 months of maternity leave and guaranteed treatment that would not endanger the infants. In the event of imprisoned/outlaw pregnant women, since law dictates rights are not upheld for criminals, there is no protection or special treatment. Basically, prison is anarchy outside of the guard and staff areas. It is good for intimidation.

They are treated like any other people with extra needs, though not exactly positively. There is no longer a need for a human to actually get pregnant and pregnancy prevention, for both men and women, are widely available and nearly always used, meaning a pregnant woman is often pregnant here only out of choice.

They are treated well, and get special rights. The pregnant women get maternity leave after 5 months of pregnancy, and may come back immediately after the child is born, although you may wait another 2 months before return. Also, you may bring your baby into work for 6 months after returning.

Pregnant women are treated with the utmost respect in our country. They get 6 months of maternity leave after the birth of the child, although they may waive this right and return to work. However, the government encourages all women in the workforce to use the maternity leave period to bond with their child, and feels that they should not return to work "too soon".

Very few Frenkish women have been impregnated in the last 50 years, on account of nationwide sterility.

However, should any woman find herself with child, you can expect people will whisper until she is abducted and tested by the OSI (Office of Science & Industry) to find out what went wrong in genetic therapy. Theoretically, after it's all well and done, the mother might be allowed to peacefully have her baby and maybe even get a hand in raising it. Theoretically.

They are treated with care, of course. When traveling, it is advised that they have some company to assist them. In public vehicles, they are respectfully given seats. They may also be given maternity leave.

Pregnant women are allowed to take more days off work as the pregnancy proceeds. People in the bus/train will offer their seats to pregnant women. Pregnant women are treated with the utmost respect, as the Constitution of Soviet Polsol (Article 41) mandates that the state must protect the family. After giving childbirth, women get 6 months (paid) maternity leave.

The same as they are in most nations, for the most part. Healthcare is provided for free and maternity leave is available for those who want it. Pregnancy is, however, becoming rarer and rarer (the last notable figure in Mechanocratic Russia to undergo pregnancy was spy chief Elena Trotskaya) as sterility surgery and artificial insemination are becoming more popular, though we haven't implemented it as much as the Frenks have for the simple reason that there is no need at present.

On another note, we're waiting for the one nation on here that proclaims its total disdain for pregnancy and that they punish it through brutal execution, or physical and/or psychological torment. As we speak, an invasion and occupation force is assembling to teach said nation not to be so edgy on F&NI.

During the final month of pregnancy, it is believed that a pregnant woman should stay home/at the hospital, as the baby could pop out at any moment. Many women are frustrated by this tradition, but some welcome the small vacation before the baby arrives. Those that work are typically restricted to office duties and small handicrafts.

Once the child arrives, both mother and father are granted family leave, but the father only has it for one month while the mother has it for six. On the child's first birthday, a big celebration is held. This is based on an old belief that if a child survives it's first year, it will most likely grow up. Now that we have vaccines and proper medicine, this happens to 85% of all Vudnian babies.

Another belief about pregnancy is this: a woman should only have five full-term pregnancies in her lifetime or fewer. This is to ensure that not only is our population kept stable, but the mother's health is not put at serious risk. The Exceptionalists saw women as nothing more than baby factories, and would force a woman to go through countless pregnancies "For the glory of Zwebog". Many women died from childbirth complications, so modern doctors are required to inform women that every pregnancy puts a woman at risk.

Depends. If the woman has ties to the Board or is wealthy, she'll do pretty well. Otherwise, she'll probably be giving birth on the factory floor.

Maternity leave is guaranteed with varying degrees with length and status within the firm. The employer cannot fire a worker simply because she is pregnant, and maternity leave can extend beyond the 11 month pregnancy, and in some places paternity leave is allowed.

Sidh women cannot become pregnant. The invasive procedures of extracting ova for the eugenics program has damaged the ovaries of most Sidh women beyond the ability to conceive naturally. Pregnancy is further hampered by cyber-augmentations restricting uterine expansion, and by genetic differences between Sidhae with mutually incompatible genetic enhancements, as to make it a virtual impossibility.

Hence the new generations of Sidhae are eugenically-selectioned and grown in vast biofactory-like progenitories. Since being artificially grown and enhanced has come to define the very Sidh being, Sidhae take great pride in being the products of science and deliberate engineering, looking down upon their naturally-born human brethren as inferior, stubborn and ignorant, born at the mercy of natural randomness despite having the scientific knowledge to surpass the limitations of nature and refusing to use that knowledge out of obsolete, antiquated prejudices about "sanctity of human life". Naturally-born individuals are derisively referred to as "cunt-borns" by Sidhae.

Consequently, the very notion of pregnancy and natural birth within Sidh society is considered borderline-pornographic, the very idea being reviled by most. It is regarded as disfiguring, painful, filthy and generally disgusting, as opposed to young Sidhae growing and emerging from reasonably aesthetic progenitory vats in a sterile laboratory environment. While many Sidh womenfolk have indeed admitted to hold a "morbid curiousity" about how human women manage to cope with the traumatic experience of something "that large" and alive feeding and growing inside them, cultural prejudices against pregnancy and natural birth would certainly prevent most from even considering to try even if they were physically capable to.
Freedom doesn't mean being able to do as one please, but rather not to do as one doesn't please.

A fool sees religion as the truth. A smart man sees religion as a lie. A ruler sees religion as a useful tool.

For the most part, not dreadfully, but not well either. Unless the pregnancy was caused by a rape, or the woman is rich/famous/highly placed enough to have maternity leave allowed in her contract, they can be made redundant and in a handful of jobs, outright sacked for making themselves unfit for work. Such people do get benefits until the baby is born and mother and baby are out of hospital as pregnant women do not deserve to starve but after that they are on their own.

In Mcnernia pregnant women are treated with respect and family is valued above all else. There is much in terms of maternity leave, in the various Colonies, Viceroyalties, Dominions and Protectorates it can very depending on what the local law is. It is the general trend towards Maternity leave and no sackings or firings because a woman is pregnant. Limited welfare is provided by the state and quite often the husband will be given paid time off. Especially after the birth of the child if it is not the first one.

Pregnancy does not happen in the Leadership Caste (the Golds), the Auxiliary Caste (the Silvers), or the Servile Caste (the Bronzes). All members of these Castes are Vatborn. Therefore, they have no pregnant women. It was considered to remove sexual dimorphism altogether, but this was rejected as both XX and XY have certain genetic resources that should not be wasted. Nobody could decide which sex to remove either. None of these Castes feel sexual arousal.

Within the Specialist Caste (the Irons), which still can reproduce by natural means (Freeborn) though few do, pregnant women are allotted significantly more credits than the average unemployed person while on maternity leave. As they are at the very core of the Martian Eugenics Program, providing fresh genes and potentially unexpected genomes, they tend to be viewed with a little bit of awe.

Pregnancy has been quickened significantly, from 40 weeks to 20 weeks. Regardless of this shortening, most women do not have interest and do not get pregnant. Genetic modification has ensured that unexpected pregnancy cannot happen, as the woman must consciously approve the pregnancy or the sperm will simply not be able to attach. As the Specialist Caste still retains sexuality, and indeed is quite sexual, this is vital to preventing overpopulation.
